  • Said it in another thread:

On paper the idea is this:

Every character you play, killer or survivor gets assigned their own 'invisible' rank depending on how well you do with them.

    The issue is this:

From a certain point on many (not all, but many) survivors will run the same perks, meaning an individual rank is irrelevant there.

    But with killers?

There individual ranks do make sense, but it should be something that is visible...

(making a new thread, bear with me)

  • Proposing a hotfix:

have the ranks be for the individual characters, so we have some numbers we can crunch

Disable everyone under green ranks from being paired with green ranks and up.

If someone's in a swf with green and up there will be no restrictions.

this should combine the old and new system decently

  • Had another:

    beautiful3gen.jpg

I'm standing right next to the 3rd gen here. It's up and down the corridor... (ended with a 3k)

This game is 18+ which means if you are underage you shouldn't play. You have 17yo and a guy assumed that as you are not meant to play the game you will get banned. But that is not true. That's all, nothing to worry about and nothing related to your question.

not guy. also, hey, I've seen it on other games, and wasn't certain how it's handled here cause i couldn't find much info on it.

  • @Buttercake said:

Really? Banned for being 17? 😒

well, the game is 18+ isn't it?

  • Depending what mouse you have, I'd suggest making good use of any additional buttons.

As killer I have all additional abilities (like reloading on Deathslinger) on M4.

As survivor i put crouch on V and struggle on L (vaulting is still space)

The new skin is so good, I was waiting for man of medan to laod up and so I read the forums and I heard new skin for feng. So I got excited and was ready to buy it with shards if it was with shards. Find out its freaking auric cells and I got no money :( now on top of buying rift I gotta get this outfit for feng. I wish I could use my 50000 iri shards and turn them to auric cells. We should get a currency exchange system and maybe even a trade system or something, because where I live being 17 almost never gets you a job, so for the things I want I gotta wait a while.

the exchange system is a good idea.

but you might have gotten yourself banned for being under 18. not certain though

I thought the community is crystal clear with what it wants, to give a couple of examples:

    • Advanced Graphic Settings
    • Colorblind options

Yet we've been promised the same thing over and over again, with nothing in sight.

We do have a reason, some more than others.

I've seen people go up in arms against a proposed colorblind mode (being able to toggle the colors of auras and scratchmarks), so the community isn't that clear.

Yeah nothing will ever beat LOL in terms of toxicity. I wish the devs tried to make DBD a more casual game, so people aren't nearly as salty and balance isn't a massive factor.

yeah, but there you will get the hatred of those that see dbd as overly competetive. the same people that have just one M.O. when playing and demand the devs cater to them exclusively.

  • @SCP_FOR_DBD said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1518629#Comment_1518629

Thats true, a lot of the time its just a bunch of bitching. We should try to be more constructive.

I mean, I have been in far far far worse fan communities.

Which makes what I see here all the more devastating, truth be told. Like, just look at twitter for example: devs make a tweet, majority of responses are insults and demands they are more than likely sick of seeing/hearing.

I'd not be surprised if the community killed the enthusiasm.

  • @SCP_FOR_DBD said:

My biggest problem is that they're trying to make a competitive game but only have 2 people on the balance team, I don't think I need to explain why thats not a good idea.

    I agree.

But at the same time, with as little constructive input as I see on the forum (i'm not on the discord, so i can't say what's going on there) I'd say it's only making things even harder.

again, with the example of threads about buffs/nerfs:

Threads that, e.g. say how to change Spirit's gameplay while keeping it interesting and challenging for both sides are few and far between. the majority of threads is merely 'she has absolutely NO counter cause I don't wanna play differently than from playing against trapper nerf pls' and the like.

Judging by my own coding experience, with an overwhelming 'input' of that kind, the best devs can do it throw things at the wall and see what sticks. And lbh, this seems to be what they are doing.

So, by all means, it's up to us to provide better feedback.

And hey, at least they would never go and wait 4 months to pseudo-fix an ACTUAL fully gamebreaking bug despite modders pointing out what went wrong two days after the culprit patch.

  • I'm probably one of the few people who don't see a difference, on either side. only thing i noticed is far fewer postgame chats, which is sad.

  • Deathslinger's overcoat-less outfits, oddly enough. it's almost as if some survs do a double-take when the sound (gun shot and chase music) don't match the look...

  • I don't think you know what 'glamorizing' means...

  • @Smeagol83 said:

the problem is that you have difficulty in accepting change. it's normal though. some have it harder than others. its human nature.

If the -said- killer was released with a totally different animation u would have accepted it that way and if it was changed to the animation we now know u would have asked for a change to the original too.

with both Myers and Caleb we would probably KNOW something is off had they had different animations from the start.

With caleb we would have wondered 'isn't he supposed to have a limp?' and some would have called the devs 'lazy' and 'uncaring' for not putting extra work into animating it.

  • @MrDardon said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1517590#Comment_1517590

Deathslinger's new Animation actually looks better. It looks more menacing.

It's weird that People complain about Myers movement since it's the same Animation while he walks in EW II

    It's missing his limp.

It'S those little details that make a character. you wouldn't want huntress or hag sashaying like plague, would you?

  • Caleb has the same issue. I mean I'm happy for him losing his limp, but...

  • I once managed to startle a Myers... there's ought to be an achievement for that.

  • know who we could excellently use for this? Survivor versions of Billy or Deathslinger...

  • Easiest solution would be different keybinds for vaults, lockers and pick-ups

  • @SneakyNeytrix said:

I think you usually have to take cosmetics of a pinch of salt some do seem to reflect the main timeline Canon while some don't.

Feng Min is one of those interesting cases as a lot of her cosmetics have dates on them.

Her default outfit and her victory out I'll set around 2016 confirming that she not only took part in the tournament but won.

Her main event outfit confirms she was initiated into the laser bears in 2012.

Her spring recruit outfit confirms you fully became an official member and recruit around 2014

All of these are most likely can into her main story.

But then you have outfits like the sea creature Trapper which clearly isn't Canon his main story.

So far there seems to be a few types of cosmetics

    1) canonical cosmetics- this includes the default, archives and things that makes sense within the lore.

Examples- default Legion, Bush party and devil-may-care

    2) thematic cosmetics- these cosmetics seem to be made from The Fog or found in the Fog to hit a certain theme or for fear. These are not Canon

Example- Sea Monster trapper, Scarecrow Wraith, Greek legend cosmetics.

3)Fog shenanigans- these cosmetics are up for debate on whether they are Canon or not. As they seem to be tied to specific story elements but forgotten outside of those.

    For example- The blight cosmetics.

Now when it comes to timelines I don't think of it are alternate the timelines in Dead by daylight to the same extent that most people think they are.

Lorewise there aren't multiple of the same survivors and killers in the Fog (with the exception of legion but even then there's only one Joey and one Susie).

The alternate universes seem to be more sense where different elements happen rather than the exact same timelines.

For example universe one is where Min, Legion and most of the original Killers are from.

Then you have universe two where Michael and Freddy probably come from.

Lastly Universe 3 where you have Steve and Nancy who have Micheal Freddy and those people as fictional characters

Naturally i am taking them with a whole lump of salt XD

But for caleb's the listed things are fairly consistent throughout the designs

How would that be copyright? BHVR own Dwight and Adam's sounds

Yes, but they can't put that on a character someone else holds copyright over. I'd have to look up the part in copyright regulations, but stuff like that is covered. it's a complete mess

They could literally give us a James skin and then put on Dwight or Adam's voice as a placeholder or something until they can add voices

Copyright is a mess... They couldn't.

  • Jason, but more so:

Killer Versions of the unlicensed survivors.

  • i think what happened here is this:

New players with no experience yet being thrown into boiling water to evaluate. I can see the reasoning, but jeesh, that's not a good approach. it's bringing fast results, but it's frustrating.

Maybe if the devs would give us a rematch button, to show new players the ropes (hooks?)...

  • that's not what I asked.

Can you pinpoint WHERE in the game's code the error is caused.

Because that is what's always the issue with this kind of thing. locating the bug.

  • @Malkraz said:

The swamp has a wider potential area the hatch can spawn. Unlike every other realm, it can actually spawn around the edges of the map. This can make it much harder to come across than anywhere else.

yeah, but if I go across the map like i'm looking for a missing person in a forest (... oddly appropriate metaphor there), survivor in tow, and find nothing I don't think it's there...

  • It's a very very mixed bag for me:

I sometimes get matches in which it's a stroll in the park (both survivor and killer side) and the next can be absolutely hell with no real in between.

I know that the system needs time to adjust, but good heavens.

  • @Largoo said:

More people are experiencing errors than the developer thinks. But We're just waiting because of the word you're working on.

well, can you pinpoint which bit of code causes the error?

  • @TheRockstarKnight said:

Tall Killers have more trouble mindgaming certain tiles (with Huntress and Plague being the most notable examples of this: especially when using specific cosmetics), so there is a balancing aspect to it.

I don't know if it'd break the game if they shrunk the Killers down to Survivor size, but it'd certainly have an effect beyond being cosmetic.

also, taking into account how often I had survivors crouch up to me, I don't think having killer stand 8' tall is having any 'don't approach' effect if that was the intent...

  • The Entity simply IS.

It's so far beyond human ideas of gender, especially white western human's idea of gender that discussing things is pointless. It's a good way to see who in the community is an ignorant brat however.

Someone has trouble reading. I didn't teabag, I'm literally staying next to escape border to let killer land hit or two on me so he can get more BPs.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1508607#Comment_1508607

As I said, I was staying to let killer hit me for his bonus BPs. No teabagging, no running in circles for no reason, literally staying on border between 2 pillars that count as escaping when you cross those.

Ah. okay, that's different. Hmm... I've seen the backflip on other killers... Maybe there's a certain chance for that animation?

  • @Todgeweiht said:

Thats why you dont teabag or stay at the gate to taunt the killer boys

^^^ that. Look, it doesn't matter if it gives more BP to escape late. if you fool around in the corridor killers will use every chance they can get to get a kill in.

(you don't wanna know how many complaints from survs I had as Deathslinger... look, if you are injured and fooling around in the corridor, you will get a spear through your sternum)

See, this is the problem. Her power can be frustrating, but mostly i play her when i get tired of gen rush and getting looped multiple times due to dead harding for distance and so on. I think the problem is that shes so disorienting to play, like, every 5 seconds your screen is shaking.

I admit I don't play Nurse much, but what do you mean 'shaking'?

  • @Vox_Nocturne said:

I've genuinely wondered about how time space works in the realm, and what survivors might be like if they caved in to killing. Here's a rough idea for Dwight Fairfield:

    Killer: The Disappeared

Weapon: A blackened, single-handed sword that materialises out of the fog when swung, and dissipates afterwards.

Power: A stealth ability that turns Dwight into a greyish mist for a short period. Works like a time-limited Wraith power, with the downside of short usage, but upside of being able to pass through solid objects.

    Perks:

Unbonded: A successful hit severally reduces any aura-reading ability, including regular hooks. Does not cancel out the ability alltogether, and a survivor becoming hooked causes the "failed skill check" explosion that can be seen by survivors, so the hook isn't completely visible, thereby rendering the perk not so overpowered.

Better Alone: Survivors have a minor increase in solo gen speed, but drastically reduced efficiency when working with other survivors on gens

You're Not Here: An obsession gains a minor speed boost to any action other than gens, but if within a survivor falls within a certain radius of the obsession, their actions can be heavily slowed, with exception to gens.

These are rough, on-the-spot ideas, but likewise alternative forms of survivors could be a lot of fun!

Alternatively, let me pick back up what I mused before:

    The Chameleon - Dwight Fairfield

Weapon: The Mimic - A shapeless sphere of shadows than can change into the weapons of other killers

Secondary Power: Mimicry: Turn into an object of your choice: Generator, Locker, Totem, Pallet. You become immobile till you step out of your disguise or a survivor tries to interact with you. If they do, you can either attack them or encase the survivor in a cocoon of shadows and take their shape. while in the guise of another survivor you can interact with generators and totems, recessing respectively rebuilding them. if you attack a survivor of if the caught survivor manages to break free or is broken free the mimicry ends.

    Perks:

Living Shadow: Gain a boost to your speed when walking on 'shadowed' tiles.

Now you see me : when staying close to obstacles such as walls, you TR is reduced.

What you see... : After hooking a survivor twice all of their movements will leave scratchmarks.

  • While it has been tracking behind the scenes, it still needs some time to smooth itself out I think

  • Just wondering:

Out of 10 matches, how many would you say you win without getting frustrated?

  • Know what? Have Caleb as Survivor:

    ---

    Caleb Quinn (Survivor)

It was just a whim, a voice in Caleb's head that had him be wary of the Warden's deal. *Greedy people only see each other as humans* it said *he's not on your side and never will be*. Caleb listened to the voice, and declined the offer. When a prison riot erupted not too long after, Caleb had a hunch that this was just a facade to get back at him. He was right, and having been right he was not just able to ward the attempt on his life off, but also slip out of Hellshire's walls in all the chaos.

Swearing vengeance he became an outlaw, set on making the lives of Bayshore and the Warden as miserable as he could. This game of cat and mouse lasted for four years, till one fateful night Caleb decided to break into Bayshore's private office, having heard Bayshore not only held on to letters to the warden that would prove their guilt, but also Caleb's original designs Bayshore had sold as his own.

Cracking the safe was child's play, but Caleb had made a mistake. To late did he realise that while the information was correct, it had also been purposefully planted to lure him into a trap that brought him face to face with Henry Bayshore once more. In the ensuing fight Caleb shot Bayshore, but not after the office had caught fire. Grabbing what he had come for Caleb scrambled for the window, unaware that Bayshore was still alive.

That he learned when a bullet ripped through his knee and he fell off the high window ledge.

Only to awake in a gloomy, damp forest with pain in his leg and nothing in sight but a flickering campfire in the distance

    PERKS

    Luck o' the Irish

You have a 5/10/25% chance of spawning next to a Hex Totem or the hatch, but also a 4% chance of spawning next to the killer.

    Eccentric Engineer

If you do not bring an item into the trial, you can upgrade an item you find in a chest to a higher level in exchange gaining the Broken and/or Exposed status (both if upgraded to Iridescent) until the item is depleted by you or another survivor.

    Bayshore's Folly

Each time you are chased by the killer you gain a token. Starting at 2 tokens you gain a speed boost during chases until the killer loses sight of you. At 5 tokens you gain an additional struggle phase upon after being hooked. The counter resets if you are knocked down within the first 5 seconds of a chase.

Increases the chance of becoming the obsession

  • @SirCracken said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1508231#Comment_1508231

Pretty much. Somewhere along the line the devs got afraid of making good perks and resorted to recreating old perks. Now with 3 extra conditions before they can be used.

Sometimes I wonder if they mistake the number of conditions a perk has as a measuring system for how good it is.

    This raises a question:

Would the community widely mind if some perks would become unteachable as they are deeply tied into the characters backstory?

Like, Lullaby is something Anna could teach the other killers (assuming they do interact), but Caleb couldn't really teach anyone but maybe Amanda and Max Gearhead.

Same with the Survivors. Claudette could of course teach the others self-care, but laurie couldn't teach others OoO.

  • I think with a lot of 'post-nurse' or even 'post-huntress' killers the problem lies within their perks becoming a bit of bootleg versions of older perks, often to go with the backstory.

    Take Gearhead as example:

It's clear what they were going for here with Caleb, but by all means, with his backstory it should rather have been some odd mix of tinkerer and discordance.

Suvivor perks have the same issue

  • Eesh, this makes me feel quite good about my swfs. at least one of us runs kindred... thought we're too... chaotic... to be useful...

  • Did neither the bill nor the nancy run kindred? you'd think kindred is standard for swf to tell someone if anyone's coming to save them...
