What was wrong with the matchmaking from before?

I dont understand the point of this new system. It has false information. I'm still getting mostly 1 Killers.

Why not just keep it like it used to be. Maybe add a button that lets you 'just play with anyone' that you can toggle on or off. Instead of forcing people to just play with anyone...๐Ÿ˜ฉ

  • I don't understand it either, it's horrible for newer people being forced to play against red rank players.

Apparently the devs think a players Rank is meaningless (which to some point I agree) but you know when that's the case? When a player reached Rank 1.

It absolutely does require a certain amount of skill and experience to reach Rank 1, no one can deny that. Maybe it's not that much but it's at least something. So a player that never reached Rank 10 is most likely worse than someone that gets to Rank 1 only two days after Rank reset.

The thing is that players with 300 hours and players with 3000 hours can both be Rank 1 but the skill difference between those two players is massive despite being on the same Rank. I think that's where the "Rank means nothing" is coming from?

  • For 4 years everyone had fun, though.

Why can't we just toggle this new MMR on/off. I bet the majority of people would turn it off if given the chance.

If someone had 1,000 hours and never got lower than level 10 and someone had 90 hours and was at level 1..should they play together...is time the only thing they are counting? Time is irrelevant.

  • They broke the old matchmaking during the Mass Killer Exodus of late 2019/early 2020. They made it way easier to rank up and maintain high ranks by basically neutering the monthly reset, they changed SWF matchmaking to go off of the highest rank (to avoid smurfing), they allowed the system to match rainbow ranks together at a faster rate to work around the dual problem of the Killer Exodus and SWF creating super long survivor ques, and on top of all that the system was inherently flawed in that ranks really didnt matter a whole lot in the first place and that the only real difference was a moderately lower concentration of potatoes the higher you rank. Lower, but still extremely common.

Yeah, we kind of needed a new system.

  • Random rainbow ranks were still better than this new crap.

the problem with the previous one was what is wrong with this one. mid rank killers being put against rank rank survivors, which is wholly unfair on the killer. except this time, devs claim that rank and hours mean nothing anymore, when its pretty painstakingly obvious they do; we were told that matches from months ago up to now were used to make the MMR system, which i personally do not know if that was true or not because look at the mess we are in.

if we had a 'play with anyone' (essentially enabling rainbow matches AKA all ranks together), that means it being turned off would be 'play with people close to my rank' (using rank here instead of MMR because rank is easier to think of, and we dont know how MMR is operated) instead of anyone. so it would never be turned on, and rainbow matches (AKA any SWF that has someone on a lower 'rank bracket' as you) would have an extremely long wait time (which killers already have). personally, i would want to play against rank 10 survivors when im rank 10, instead of red ranks, purple ranks, and maybe a yellow or green. long story short, 'keep[ing] it like it used to be' is no different to now, except devs have put on their hoover costumes and tell you to just carry on and smile through this depressing time.

Because rank 12 - 9 kilers already fought against rank 1 - 4 survivors, because people wouldnt shut up about it and NEED to complain all the time

And because it wasnt a good solution to do matchmaking, hitting rank 4 is way more easyer as a survivor (cause youre 4 and you just need to do like 2 gens, 1 or 2 safe unhook and a fiew healing, maybe gens in Coop for the bonus points) and you where sure to have 1 pip

You cannot MM people depending on hours played, Someone with 2000 H may have played 1950 as a survivor and only 50 as a killer and someone with 200h may have played 100/100 on each side

The problem i think with the new MMR is that it came too quickly, the devs should have let data getting collected for some more time, even a month and then when it was ready with max data, get it live. But then people didnt stop complaining they wanted the mmr NOW because the ranking system was broken blablabla, now they complain cause the MMR came in too quickly and doesnt do its job properly (since it doesnt have enough data and doesnt place new players in a system that doesnt count mmr, besiee even along new players there still are a lot of smurfs)

    So yeah thats the problem

No, Almo said that the MMR on PC started collecting data with the update that locks the killers when you search for a game, and that you have to play at least 10 games since that update to set your MMR (10 games/killer of course...solike 200 games for all killers + 10 for survivor at least)

It just came in too quickly i think, they should have w3anted more and it would probably be better :(

well ive played plenty of games w doctor (i love him purely bc i find him cool, same as mikey) and im against rank 1's and 20's so either im somehow both awesome and terrible at the game, or rank 20s are all smurfs, all rank 1s are potatoes, or the MMR update should have been in the oven for way longer to prevent this half-baked mess as it is.

  • So many ruxxian camper have gone from my matches :D

  • Matchmaking? What is that? Never head about it.

As a european player, im getting players from russia, usa....

We dont want your high-minded phrases as an excuse.

    You f*cked it up...again...

The problem there is that when you dont have your MMR settled, you fight good and bad killers/survivors to be able to adjust it and settle it down

But ill defenetly go for the fact that youre a good potatoe :p

im gonna wait a couple weeks, let the dust settle, then pick up dbd again. unsure if my laptop can run dbd while at uni so i might not be playing till winter ๐Ÿ˜‚

  • Whoa whoa whoa, the current matchmaking is clearly having some issues, but let's not jump on the train pretending the old matchmaking was worth a #########.

You should listen in classes, not chase survivors lol

  • They destroyed old mm because killers were avoiding red ranks because it is not fun. This caused them to widen the rank pool and essentially remove rank reset to speed up q times for red ranks, resulting in any old potato reaching r1 eventually.

  • Said it in another thread:

On paper the idea is this:

Every character you play, killer or survivor gets assigned their own 'invisible' rank depending on how well you do with them.

    The issue is this:

From a certain point on many (not all, but many) survivors will run the same perks, meaning an individual rank is irrelevant there.

    But with killers?

There individual ranks do make sense, but it should be something that is visible...

(making a new thread, bear with me)

  • I think the problem is the same as old matchmaking: Queue times get priority over fair matches. In order to keep queue times short, they searching range is expanded if no players at a certain skill level is found. As far as i know, the new system does it just the same as the old one, and that in addition to a lot of skill ranks not yet determined, leads to the mess we got.
