On top of wages:
Licensed characters cost money, as do servers etc.
The more people play, the more licensed material is put in, the more costs need to be covered on top of wages etc.
Sometimes a license can be a one-time thing, but there are companies that will charge full for every little bit. I'd not be surprised if every bit of silent hill content has to be not just negotiated anew, but be payed for by the devs massively...

i think the trapper thing is supposed to be a 'ole timey strong-man' thing... but it has little to no connection to anything. it's just weird (atm)

Literally no one apart from sweaty SWFs run Object of Obsession. And the player running object there does not mind getting tunneled, because he is the best looper in the team and will waste a lot of your time.
They are also the ones most likely to just DC the first moment they get a harpoon launched into their sternum.

Anyone gonna mention Hellshire? Anyone?

It'd be a success.

There's also hints in the new revelations on the tome that there's realms where survivors might be living peacefully.

You have games that last more than 5 min?

Forgive me for sounding dumb, but do we conclusively know without any doubt that The Blight is The Alchemist? I ask this because in Talbot's lore he is shown a vision of a field of flowers by The Entity before entering, whilst The Alchemist was wandering through the death and decay of the void. Both those places sound very different to me, which could also lead to an idea they are 2 separate people.
we can speculate that the entity showed him the flowers and let him roam for a while, corrupting himself. IIRC the event lore, The Alchemist wandered through death and decay searching for more flowers.

Still saying that for a proper MMR system it would need a complete overhaul of several game mechanics to genuinely allow to measure things against each other. you can't really measure a players skill with e.g. a survivor against a killer as long as survivors can still switch in the lobby. neither can you measure a player's skill with a killer if they play each killer as camping and tunneling, never making use of the killer's abilities.

Deathslinger is somewhere in his 40s, given that we know the following:
he was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 1860, and made the deal with the warden after 15 years (so 1875), the hellshire gang existed for 6 years (1881).
If we assume Caleb was 16 or 18 when he started working for Bayshore, and it took at least a year or two before he realized Bayshore's been selling his inventions, he'd be around 17-20 when he was thrown into prison, meaning he'd be around 38-41 or such when the Entity took him.
The behind the scenes video revealed Caleb's been born in South Dakota, and Hellshire (and thus Glenvale) is in Nebraska.
there's a timeline thread in the Lore forum that has some ages, i think.
-
With doc right now it might be because there are a 'make 45 survivors scream' and 'kill all survivors in a match' challenges on the tome, which are fairly quickly done with doc.

You ever spoken to an avid WoW player? They absolutely hate themselves for putting so much time into the trash heap that is the current WoW experience yet they still play and still believe they care about the game because they're addicted and can't stop. Same goes for this game. DbD is fundamentally...bad, but it's gameplay loop is oddly addicting and this genre of game has never been done so successfully before. Some people find it really hard to put something down after picking it up, no matter how much they despise it.
I've been in the wow community (up till the cataclysm beta, though, but still)
I'm just the kind of person who tries to make sense of things. Another thing that baffles me is how the people who demand the devs get a certain license into the game are the same crying bloody murder when there's a lot of payed content then...
do people know how licensing works? especially with companies like konami?

"why are you playing the game if you're criticizing it for the faults it has? That's not allowed, you can't do that! >:("
close.
Why are you still playing the game if you don't see anything right with it.
Criticizing its faults is one thing, but looking at the forum, and quite literally every comment section on the devs' twitter etc the feeling I get is that this community is absolutely averse against everything put out, that they think the devs can't do right at all, and so forth.
So, I genuinely DO wonder why some people are still here if they see nothing good in the game and are certain it can't/won't be fixed ever.

I just hang out at the forums because I like some of the posters here. As far as playing DbD, it's very much a side thing-- something I play when the team isn't on Overwatch on a given night and I don't feel like reading or watching a movie-- it's not something I play regularly by any stretch. It's just a slasher horror Icon fantasy play when I feel like running around in a game as Myers, Freddy, Leatherface, Pig, or Ghostface.
get discord or something if you are just here for other naysayers

Well, but they face consequences for their actions.
-Facecamping is boring. Imo to do it needs a really good justification for yourself, like having some ultra toxic guy for you.
-You lose the match (if the survivors are not stupid).
-Less bps, as if you would chase people in the same time, or kick gens.
If there is no good to understand justification, then someone needed really to let steam off, I guess :)
well, what consequence do survivors face? name one

@lostboy said:
######### can I do? I run DS and unbreakable and still they go out their way to ruin the fun out of this game. I am a killer main and never play that style, but it appears when ever I go and play survivor I get this sort of trash play style. Sure three survivors always survivor, but I am always the forth (no torch, no t-bag just doing gens).
Why can't you just accept defeat instead of literally face camping and then tunnelling?! It's not even funny any more.
I also have issues with certain killers who deliberately go out their way to bring in a mori when they go against me. Played the same killer three times in 48 hours and every time he will bring in a mori and joke after in chat stating he is just 'farming'.
You can blame survivors that can't accept defeat and have turned ds (often in combo with unbreakable etc) into a big middle finger towards killers who try to play fair.
It's once bitten twice shy.
And let's be real: There's too many brats that will mouth you off no matter what on either side.
You ignore the person who just got unhooked and ran right into you? they'll mock you for it or even complain you made them waste DS.
You bring a flashlight but don't use it? Instead of realising you don't use it, it gets used as justification for camping, tunneling and moris.
you can't do right, so why try, that seems to be the mentality.
And that won't change till brats like that have to face consequences for their actions.

There's a 'make survivors scream 45 times' and a 'kill all survivors in a match' challenge in the tome.

I suppose in many alternative universes the Entity feasts on even that could supply it with what it needs.
The text says these survivors are living as if nothing was wrong. I'm just guessing, but this means one of two things, if it's not an illusion: The entity can't reach them there or the entity does not want to reach them there.
-
@Justalittlepeeck said:
Just think about it. Forget about killers or trials, they are not the thing that is the most insane and horrifying in DbD.
It is the eternal aspect of it. Time flows different in realm of the Entity, years, thousands of years can pass, while it is less than second outside. It's like a dream, where you experience entire life in a few seconds.
Nobody knows how much time has survivors spent inside. It could be billions of years, their minds could be older than the universe itself.
It's chilling even to try to imagine that amount of time they are stuck here, and they have technically been through all it. Tormented by all possible kinds of tortures Entity has brought inside. Forever.
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD:
With the current tome chapter the first new Revelation went live
In it, the Observer gets the chance to see a realm in which survivors are living together quite... happily? He muses if this was an illusion, but if it is true, that might mean there's a chance survivors (maybe killers, too) can escape to a realm beyond the Entity's grasp, and maybe get home from there?
-
Easiest solution would be perk categories, and only allow someone to use a limited amount from certain ones. Like, you can't run Unbreakable and DS together.
The main issue is, imho, that the game is at a point where it'd need a complete mechanics overhaul to balance and fix things, but all those noisy elitist brats will throw a tantrum and harass the devs even worse should that happen.
-
@Orion said:
We don't need more ways to taunt players, we need fewer.

You play fair-ish, you get hooks.
You play fair, you get hatch.
You play a**hole, you get mori.
You play dorky, i get pallet, i show you totems, you get door.
-
I maintain the view that the main issue lies in how easily some powers are exploitable. but to fix that proper it'd need a complete overhaul of maps and mechanics, not just buffs and nerfs. and that will take a while, especially if the community doesn't provide good input.
-
Plague, for the reasons named before. And, naturally, Deathslinger, mainly when I'm in troll mode (dark devotion, M&A, tremors and DMS with shroud of separation)

Lol! And killers just play to have fun right? Your argument doesnt make any sense. Survivors have their objektives, killers have theirs... and no i dont consider a match where I don’t get to do ######### fun, just as much as killers don’t consider it fun being renrushed within the first minute of the game.. as killer you have a saying in how the match turn out, as survivor you are completely relying on your teammates, if they want to bodyblock you, unhook you in front of the killer, point the killer towards you... Well just too bad.. I Think most people play to win, so most people are playing the wrong game i suppose for wanting to do their objectives....
While, sure, what I described is the survivors objective, it's the how.
When you look at how many of exactly that kind of survivor complain that, basically, the existence of killers ruins their fun, then you have to admit something went sideways.
And that is what this is about: not that survivors do gens, but that they seem out to break some record or something without any hindrance.
-
Thing is, a lot of purple and red ranks seem so obsessed with playing dbd competitive. Like '*win*as many matches per day as possible' seems to be the main mentality, which leads to the approach of 'go in, rush gens, go out, rinse and repeat'...
we can be glad that the game's mechanics not actually lend to that (even though we still have ranks) or it would be much much worse.
but yeah, it's a nonsensical mentality, and they are were much playing the wrong game if that is their approach. and they are usually those loudest to cry how this and that killer needs a nerf because... they can't do their shallow routine playstyle.

you can always have decorative holly on the sleeves, that's worse than thorns.

I think most would look odd for having them other then Legion but the one stick in my head be the hag I don't think she look right.
with Hag i'd absolutely accept a linked cosmetic (torso and weapon) to give her a far too big sweater with far too long arms:
-
agree with 1 and 2.
3 not so much, as they more money the devs have to spent on licenses, the more we have to pay for stuff in the end.
What I'd like to see very much would be Killers as survivors and vice versa, maybe even including unique gameplay elements when counterparts are facing each other.

Preach it! It's so annoying when I hook someone, turn around to walk away and a second later I hear the hook sound right behind me, then they proceed to ######### I downed them. I mean, what the hell did you think I was going to do? Walk you over to a Gen and wish you luck?
It gets especially absurd when the basement's in the shack. Like, I main Deathslinger, so it was about 5 min of ALL survivors looping round the shack, getting shot at corners, running up and down the stairs... ended with a 3k because the Claudette ultimately found the hatch.
-
The general idea to have hooks change location like cages is good to counter facecamping.
-
@Opekyn said:
Do you really think BHVR could pull off something like this?
Try falling off an hills recently?
The problem with the hill is that the map generation tries to put down more gens/chest than available. And to spot what causes that in code is one hell of a task (cause it could be caused by the coin offerings as well as be just a random error)
but sliding puzzles etc, yeah, it could work, question is more how to not have them take up too much time? If you ever played against pig, the trapremoval WITH skillchecks can already be a deathsentence if pig knows where you are and pull you off the box.
-
-
I hear you, but I still can't shake off the bad feeling I have.
I'll wait and see though.
-
maybe someone brought Party Streamers on top of that?
-
The issue seems to be this (going by observation).
ALL these spots are potential spawnpoints for gens and chests. Taking a wild guess I'd say what happens is this:
The map loads and the gens and chests are generated. but for some reason the game assigns more spots than there are gens/chest available, causing it handle a survivor jumping/walking into the spot to get 'stuck' in the invisible asset.
-
I still feel it kinda takes something away from ... lore potential? YMMV
-
He's a bit of a troll killer, and he's the most fun to play as and against like that, tbh. If one is dead set on getting their 4ks in every match like their life depends on it, no killer is fun to play.
-
I refer to them by their names cause I'm a lazy bastard when it comes to that.
also, funny how you even try to use that as counterpoint for anything just after scott lamented about how 'wrong and cringy' that oh-so-totally is on his twitter... Interesting.

Calling my opinion a fetish isn't contributing to the conversation its an insult at best might as well call me a swear at this point.
you make thread upon thread upon thread saying Caleb and Rin have no counterplay, urging people to 'proof' the opposite to you when they bring up counters, all while you yourself only have threadbare excuses when you are asked to provide proof. and each time you bring up how keen you are on 1:1 chases, which is really something to avoid with those killers if one can.
yet you insist, insist and insist that it must be played like this, and that these killers are bad because you can no indulge in lengthy 1:1 chases with these two out of... what 20? 25 killers?.
That IS a fetish thing at this point.
-
I need a new headset then, I never hear survivors in lockers... :(
-
Look, just cause people refuse to indulge in your weird fetish thing....
