I get that experience more from console killers.
But the reason is more some big name streamers convincing people it's a 'good tactic', because only the 4k counts
-
Shouldn't you complain to your friends you've been playing a custom match with then?

Oh man, I love when they do that. Every time someone with a flashlight throws down a pallet I'm just like, "Please try to blind me, please try to blind me." It's amazing the ones who will attempt it over and over again.
If the killer's running Lightborn, survivors don't get a "Killer Blinded" BP score event, right? (I wouldn't know because I'm terrible with flashlights as a survivor. I can't aim straight with a controller to save my life.)
A lot of survivor mains seem to have one single tactic that they get cranky over if it doesn't succeed. (this is why they loathe killers who shake it up by default, to the point of trying to get said killers removed from the game)
-
Ego, and buying into the pretentious nonsense big name streamers tell people about 'how to play the game correctly'.
seriously, look at the big names in the community and their incapability/unwillingness to play in a way that won't guarantee a 4k in less than 5 min. I'm not kidding, unless they in a very condescending tone showcase meme-builds etc, they are all sweaty tryhards with one single MO, whether as killer or survivor, and they act as if that's the sole true way to play the game.
Incidentally, who was it who lately convinced people that you 'must' start slugging if there's 2 gens left? because, good heavens, have I seen that a lot lately with some killers who then threw a tantrum when people got out.

I've had too much trouble with getting blinded despite immediately looking away. My screen shouldn't continue getting more obscured and then go full-blinded after I've looked away. Ever since dedicated servers, there always seems to be some problem or other with flashlights; I have loved the buff to Lightborn since day one. (I had no problem countering them before dedicated servers, so something definitely changed.)
Anyway, when I can switch mid-match from throwing bottles to going bing-bong to swinging wild with a chainsaw, then we'll talk about chests being fair lol. (I'm just kidding, I love running chest builds as a survivor; looting is fun.)
I mean, unless you run that one ace perk you will only get plain flashlights if any. so i'd say it's decently fair.

I [BAD WORD]ing love Lightborn. I don't play for kills, so I leave it on at all times. It's wonderful. Woe to the survivor who finds a flashlight in a chest and thinks no killer is stupid enough to equip Lightborn when there were no flashlights in the lobby. Ha! I showed them.
I usually only equip it when i see flashlights in the lobby (more than one). cause, hey, if they found it within the match, that's fair.
-
While it's not the best solution:
Get lightborn. usually these swfs will bring flashlights from the start. then pretend to try to avoid getting blinded and mow them down. I have yet to have one swf to play like that that wouldn't result in a 4k simply cause they can't wrap their head around the idea their plan to be obnoxious isn't working.

A camping Bubba is like a camping Hag. There's very little you can do against it. What I meant by "good team" was a team who stays apart and does separate gens. The picture I sent shows what happens if all the survivors don't split up.
If your facing Bubba grouping up can give him multiple downs with one sweep which will give him massive pressure. This is even worse with Ruin and Undying.
Also against Bubba you should never greed pallets. He punishes you massively for it. Lockers are a massive counter if you know the timing.
The issue is the practice:
Unless you are in a swf and at least one person runs OoO there's little chance you'll know it's bubba until it's too late. The tactic is good, the issue is that his mechanic as it is rewards camping, face or proxy. I've seen people who genuinely advice to just let a teammate die against a bubba, which... is not something any given killer ability should call for.
It's that style of playing him that has him so high up in the pick/kill ranks, because he's... well, easy mode.

Or, happens the other way 'round and the survivor looks like a fool trying to ''predict'' a shoot that never came and gets hit anyway. So much for ''predicting''
That's something that again applies to all killers. This isn't a situation unique to Caleb

I feel like some of them have already been scaled down. If you look at Oni's and Blight's trailers, they're ######### huuuuuge. If anything, I'd wanna see how terrifying they would be if they were accurate to their trailers.
Other than that, I always saw it as the Survivors were scaled down. Have you seen how tiny they are compared to some of the doors in the game? Or at least they used to be, the graphical updates mighta changed that.
i think it's a bit upsidedown: the doors are scaled up for the killers (remember Deathslinger not being able to get into autohaven's basement?)

He's still missing. Not everyone would shoot there, so it's a literal guess, and he'll probably still hit you because his hitbox is bs anyway. The 60th of a second was very obvious hyperbole as well.
you could argue that juking a killer is the same mechanic, thus no killer has counterplay as they are also 'just missing' their hits
-
has anyone taken the time to test how often this happens without any shroud offerings compared to either of the survivor shroud or both?
Cause i can easily imagine that if you bring both survivor shrouds and the assigned 'furthest away from killer' doesn't really allow for 4 people to spawn that it will drop you on top of the killer

Pretty much this. I play on the EU servers, and early morning/afternoon, the games are so chill. Survivors are actually fun to VS, killers are more relaxed. The game is actually fun. But then as soon as it hits evening, the SWF squads hit the scene, and suddenly every killer is injecting adrenaline into their veins as the survivors begin to hoard keys, and killers prepare their moris.
morning is also the time where you can run into the same people several times in the row and you get the 'not you again' farming matches at times.

Lets say a very common situation, you are just about to turn a corner and he fires where you would go, but you dodge. That is you predicting correctly and winning a mindgame, NOT him "missing".
Also, it takes him 0.15 seconds to ads, then the travel time. Nowhere near a 60th of a second.
people seem to think you have to strafe for miles to 'avoid' the spear, when in reality it's literally just a jump to the left.
And back on the main topic: Recently saw a friend muse about stopping to play deathslinger over the hate they are (not were, are) getting just for playing him. including some ahole making burner accounts to harass them on twitch and twitter...
but according to some people this stuff don't happen

Don't know how this got turned from a funny scenario into a Bubba vs Deathslinger thing but aw well lol
For me I'd rather face a Bubba 100x more than Deathslinger. Bubba can down multiple people in one sweep but a good team should never let that happen. Thing is with Deathslinger is that you don't feel like you have much control over what happens. It feels just like "I hope he misses" rather than "that was a good dodge".
'a good team' would do what exactly? if they can't scout the map in pairs against deathslinger to break the chain faster, i doubt they'd be capable of not giving up on a hooked teammate against bubba
-
@gibblywibblywoo said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1752254#Comment_1752254
You can react to Bubbas chainsaw. You can see him charging up and make a choice. Deathslinger can shoot you before you even see his gun raised, and can, in fact, literally zone you by just tapping LT or M2. The survivor has to respect the shot. The survivor has to pre-emptively juke and just hope that the Deathslinger has a bad aim. Deathslinger has 100% control of the situation. Bubba doesn't.
Deathslinger still can't down several people in one hit over 1-2 tiles, no matter what you think about his attack speed.
-
@gibblywibblywoo said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1752217#Comment_1752217
Dunno if you ever played Bubba but Vaults literally neuter him. Even an L/T wall. all you need to do is vault and as he goes round slow vault back. Nothing outside of his add ons that increase time will counter that.
We're both talking from very different experiences then (is this a regional thing)? cause I cannot name a single bubba except maybe people who JUST started where you'd really get much of a chance to engage them in a chase. as said, people complain 'bout Caleb while saying bubba is 100% fair... how?
-
Know what's one of the biggest jokes in the community? People who go and say
'no, bubba's ability to insta down multiple survivors at once over the span of 1-2 tiles is not broken and you just need to learn to counter it by not ever unhooking or healing anyone or generally playing'
then immediately turning around to go
'wah wah remove deathslinger because being stealthy and breaking LoS is no counterplay and he totally never ever ever ever misses any shot anytime with his hitdot it's soooo unfair, wha wha'
-
And Chapter 11 is up (click here)
As more secrets are revealed things begin to look even grimmer and more bizarre.
How far does the Entity’s reach go and why does it have such a rotten sense of humor?
-
Bubba ain't evil as such.
But in this game? The people playing him certainly are.

It actually is. You don't wanna know how many people DC BECAUSE of getting shot out of the gate, and I don't mean 'the gate just opened'. I'm talking about 'no one has been injured or hooked during egc, they just stand there being brats till the last second'...
Like, Pardon me, sweetheart, ya flashbag at the goddamn gate until that timer's nearly out, ya'll get a harpoon up yer butt an' I'll make damn sure ya'll stay to see what it looks like when it runs out.
(seriously, I had people DC the moment the animation for end game entity began)

Let me make some "minor edits"
I get why a lot of people deem the shots 'undodgeable' but tbh, the issue is a bit on the maps. Deathslinger's own map provides plently of cover to strife behind so insta-shooting gets pretty hard. other maps very much bar him from instashots due to narrow etc they are (hawkins e.g.)
Many times insta-shoots DO happen at loops, because you can easily predict where the looping survivors will go. But that's on the survivors trying to loop Caleb instead of ducking into a gym.
EDIT: also, one other change Deathslinger DOES need: Bar him from using M&A. There's a couple of killers that should be outright bared from using certain perks/perks in combo with specific add-ons. M&A for Caleb, Noed for Bubba etc. but that'd be a thread of its own
-

You arent dodging though. His shot isn't possible to dodge unless he doesn't quickscope, meaning that he missed.
no, you can dodge even quickshots.
-
Only thing it needs is an easier to understand way of breaking the chain. Not an 'easier way' and easier to understand one.
Everything else... shows you don't play him. Sorry. Let me elaborate:
- Already happens. Missed shots have a 1.5 sec cooldown + the reload speed. Latter can be reduced with addons, but that's it. If you take away that, you'll have to do increase ability cooldown on ALL killers without the chance of reducing them through addons.
- His music is as loud as other TRs
- See the bit about chain-breaking above.
- 4 seconds. Please, please, please, get Deathslinger and play him and actively wait 4 seconds after ADS without firing. Sure, there's a lot of aholes that abuse ads, but usually one lowers the weapon again the get into a better position. When ADS you are slowed down, meaning survivors will have a humongous timeframe to get away. You are very much proposing to take away his ability in practice. And yet you are encouraging something people hate even more about him: the insta-shots. ADS takes 0.15 seconds already, so this would give a bonus on them.
- There IS an auditory warning already, and it's pretty grating. it's line-shaped in front of him, and the line is broader than his hitbox.
Please do play him before suggesting changes. Because in genuine practice this would make him 'unfun' for both sides: He'd be unable to really use his ability outside of short distances, effectively forcing players to play him as an m1 killer (which already happens enough due to indoor maps)
-

Not when the game doesn't give you enough time to react. It happens in a 60th of a second, and Scott jund proved this. It is not possible.
Then tell me how I managed to dodge rank 1s just fine.
Not everyone plays like jund, and I think the logic here is part of the problem: People see those big name streamers claim and 'prove' something and parrot that, treating others accordingly.
It's another thing I commonly hear/see, people nagging about how they 'insta-dc against slinger cause he has no counterplay'... how would they even know? oh, they saw it in a video/stream of an experienced player. ah.

dodging shots is fun. and even if you don't find it fun, fun isn't the killers objective for you to have, it's to kill you. what's fun to you may not be fun to others, and vice versa, so its really a matter of opinion.
Also with deathslinger, you can get a lot of fun making him miss trickshots. I don't mean in the 'toxic teabagging' sense, but it's mutually rewarding to challenge him to a trickshot by positioning yourself, and see what he can do. if he misses, you get some satisfaction, if not, he does. and it's pretty easy even against red ranks.
-

Everyone who honestly says 'no' can write that on a piece of paper and stick it up their behinds.

@NomiNomad said:

Because we don't have to buy them. As long as you have the game, they're free. People who don't buy the Halloween DLC can still play on Haddonfield. The lore that comes within the rifts, or in general, doesn't need to be bought at all to be seen, and I believe you can always check a character's backstory from the store themselves. But making them does cost money.
If they suddenly locked lore and maps behind paywalls, they'd get a ton of backlash, and it'd cause a ton of issues. What happens if one single player doesn't have the map, but the rest do?
you could argue that a badly designed killer also doesn't make money.
I'm absolutely not asking for maps behind paywalls, but I dare say when the maps are improved in terms of balance and lore, on top of the game health, it's more likely for people to buy the existing killer chapters.
-
@NomiNomad said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1745636#Comment_1745636
Well, there's the issue that BHVR still wouldn't make a single cent on that. Maps and lore don't cost anything. Resources cost money, all that stuff. I'm not saying your ideas are bad, they aren't, but they're not realistic.
For now, the Mid-Chapter's will have to do. And (most of the time) I feel like they do a decent enough job.
How exactly does making maps and writing lore not cost anything?
@PanicSquid said:
Also the Never Stop Slashing Legion skin would require that they write new code in for Legion, since the skin changing mechanic is not part of the existing character. That would require coding time, testing time, and possibly introduce new bugs into the game for the sake of making a singular skin have additional functionality.
The skinchanging is not bond to a character, but a skin-texture. You can literally take the base-code used for oni and fill in the blanks. The code here is not that complex.
-
@NomiNomad said:
Simply put, they can't. A game like this needs new things to stay relevant, especially with a lack of game-modes. Overwatch hasn't gotten a new character in several months, and just look at it - compared to how huge it used to be, it's not anywhere near that. People, especially new or casual players, need new things to stay interested in the game.
I'm not against the idea of a few balance and bugfix updates, but BHVR is a company, and companies need to make money. DLC's, new content is one of, if not their main, way of making money. Not everyone buys skins or the Rift's, but more people'll buy the character's that come out, especially if their from a licensed property.
TLDR; They need to make new content for the sake of both making sure the game doesn't get stale and monetization. As great as a few of these updates will be, until the demand for new content stops - which it never will - we won't get a pure bugfixing update other then the mid-chapter.
Why I said to expand on the lore and map pools. It's a personal opinion, but I'd say having a chapter dedicated to expanding a pool and the lore to go with it and its characters would work as well as whole new characters.
-
Honestly, how did the devs not see the backlash coming?

Great to see we have some very nice streamers for the game who totally don't stir toxicity in the community for simply playing a killer.
Was that the same streamer who apparently convinced viewers that Deathslinger must be a massive racist etc because 'evil cowboy'? cause that's the other 'reason' for him getting hate, what one gets to hear in chat or on social media commonly if you play him.

From 17-18m away, meaning that you're going to break the chain if there's even the slightest bit of debris, and if there's not then you should have seen him and it's kind of your own fault in the same sense that it's your own fault for having Ghostface round a corner, pop the 99 and stab you in the space of half a second.
And if the Slinger is shooting you from somewhere you cannot see him, that also means he cannot see you. So that's one hell of a Slinger.
Yeah. I mean, a lot of slinger mains hate coldwind with a passion, cause, by all means, the best you often can do is shoot into the corn and hope for the best.
However, the struggling is the one thing I'd change about Caleb. in the sense that it should be clearer as to how to struggle against the chain effectively.

That really sounds much more enjoyable than the usual Monitor, STBFL, Double Reload Speed builds. About BBQ, I also have games where I don't recognize any aura the whole game. If someday I do not need the juicy BP anymore, I' ll switch out BBQ for Tremors on my killers.
:D I mean, I usually run reload add-ons on account of missing more shots than I'd like to... (I also still get all giddy when I managed to land a particular fancy trickshot)

I have a bit of an 'rp' build if you want to put it like that:
Whispers, Bloodhound, Murmur and either Tremors, DMS, Lightborn or BBQ in the 4th slot. (BBQ just for BP, as I have yet to manage actually SPOTTING a survivor's aura with it...)
And I honestly agree with M&A being a crude perk to use on Caleb. It's on the same nope-tier for me as noed on any killer with a build-in insta-down
