Or people want to enjoy the match too and don't want to sit still for a minute, just to have the killer wait behind them and hook them again. People like you throw the word 'entitled' around so much it lost it's meaning.

you know that's like 90% of dbd right? sitting still on gens, or sitting still on hook, that's the whole objective. maybe if they don't like that then they shouldn't be playing dbd.

Survivors don't like killers that they can't control. Any killer who can control a chase with their power will instantly be hated by survivors. It's as simple as that. From all the nerf NOED, nerf Spirit, nerf "flavor of the week" perk threads that you consistently see on the forums, you should understand that many survivors who frequent the forums want an easier game.

Take NOED for example, one of the easiest perks to counter, and they refuse to because they don't want to give up one of their powerful perks in lieu of a totem finding perk. Heck, even old ruin was too much for them, a perk that they could get rid of at the start of the game. All they needed to do was to stealth and use small game or a map, even though perks and items aren't necessary. I can find most lit totems just by listening for the crackle of the fire. There is only one map, new Ormond, where I couldn't find a Third Seal totem against the Twins, and my goodness, it was a miserable match, but I didn't blame the hex, I blamed myself for not being equipped properly.

They miss the days gone past where they could safely loop killers on the same infinite loop over and over. I guess they have forgotten that their queue times were much worse than they are today, which is one of the reasons why the devs started to make things more reasonable for killers.

The two killers you have mentioned are easily countered by stealth, like many other killers are, but they refuse to use that method. They want to interact with the killer, which is a good thing, but they don't want to face someone stronger than them, they want to be able to easily kite the killer while laughing about it to their friends. Its why bully squads exist, which is more frequent than forum goers want to admit.

yeah, that's basically my thoughts exactly. when I play survivor and I see noed on the endgame screen, I laugh, because I ALWAYS cleanse every totem I can find, even the dull ones. I think I've only ever gotten memed by noed like once, and it was while I was cleansing a totem, the last gen popped, and noed spawned on THAT totem, and the killer was right beside me and insta downed me. I wasn't even mad, I just laughed my ass off, because it was my fault that I didn't get the totem done before the last gen. I just don't understand why people refuse to try and play differently if they want to win so badly. Deathslingers shots are very much so reactable if you're a far distance away from him. and if you're close enough where they aren't reactable, you SHOULD go down, because you shouldn't have gotten that close to him in the first place. if you're far enough away, and you dodge the first shot, his reload slowdown and missed attack cooldown give you enough distance to where he won't catch you for a long time if you're good at juking. It's the same principle as hillbilly. you shouldn't let Billy get close enough to where he can backrev you. if you got backreved, you got caught out of position and go down as a result. So with slinger, if you get caught out of position, you get injured, or downed as a result. that's why stealth is so good against him.

  • welcome to dbd, where something new is broken beyond comprehension every patch

Isn't bad ping only supposed to help killers though?

if all 4 survivors or even just 3 are using a VPN, it helps them, now that hit validation is enabled, it will look like they're close enough to hit, but they'll just rubber band forwards and basically get away for free

It is not reasonable to expect the devs to fix every issue identified in the PTB in time for release. It is also not reasonable to expect them to revert time-intensive changes like new animations and HUD updates because of the first impressions of a small subset of players on one platform. People always hate new UI in any software, but once they get used to it they usually realize it's not so bad. I'm expecting the same thing to happen here. It's not perfect, but it's not worth being this dramatic about either.

I also don't recall them every saying MMR would be released in this update - did they explicitly say it was being delayed, or are you inferring that by it not being present in 4.5.0?

it is absolutely reasonable to expect that game breaking bugs like hitboxes being broken and the invisible corner tech on the asylum maps don't make it into the game from PTB. it is also absolutely reasonable to expect that change would be made when there was such backlash over the change to the UI. the fact that we have no option to change to legacy UI is unacceptable, and that there is no customization of the Hud is also unacceptable, because customization exists on MOBILE. And if you're actually going to use the "they used time and resources on it so now they can't go back" excuse, go watch Scott Jund's video on this, and he explains why that's a silly argument that makes zero logical sense. we have every right to be upset because unlike the twins chapter, this update FUNDEMENTALLY changes how the game is played.

  • Not the biggest fan of the aura reveal every 30 seconds, survivors shouldn't be getting that much free information. increase the timer to 60 or 45 seconds and I think it would be a bit more balanced.

me too! I've wanted object changes for a long time, and honestly I'm very exited to see where the game goes from here, because its honestly looking up. I think they've learned something from the Twins release they they need to take our feedback seriously, and honestly I'm super exited.

I think DS deactivating on healing is a bit rough, considering that healing is the action that generally comes after the unhook

I think it should deactivate on a full heal. if you get half healed and the killer comes right back and downs you, I agree, that's not fair.

  • @FilthyLegionMain said:

Only change to the nerf should be remove the timer. They may get downed after getting unhooked and then slugged. No one should have to face the whole drawn out bleeding timer.

problem with that is that they could abuse it if it had no timer by not doing anything and always having it active.

Finally an honest Oni main. You are a rare breed.. Even certain streamers that play a lot of Oni pretend like there is some magical way to outplay him with this addon... I feel like people put so much time into Oni they can't admit how strong his power really is because it would detract from their impressive skill and hurt their ego. I have learned tricks and techniques that work against basically every killer including nurse and spirit (to varying degrees of success) but not Oni. If the killer is SKILLED (I don't want to hear about the bottom 95% of Oni players or that time you spun a rank 10 oni...) and has his power up you are dead basically no matter what especially with this addon.

haha thank you, I apricate that. Yeah Oni has one of if not the strongest powers in game, and has only limited by then fact that he can't use it all the time, otherwise he would be busted. Top knot isn't fair, and I feel that using it lets bad Oni's get downs they really shouldn't, and makes good Oni's have no counterplay. Basically if you see someone and you have at least 5 seconds left of your power, you can down them. Also idk why this thread is getting soo many responses today, I made this like a month ago XD

  • I don't think bubba is evil. he's been conditioned to believe that the mutilation of humans and cabalistic nature of his family is normal, and he is just trying to protect and provide for them. in his mind, he sees this as no different than killing a deer or a wolf that threatens your home or family, and simply using the meat for nourishment as to not let it go to waste. he clearly suffers from a mental disability and he cannot make rational decision making due to abuse and conditioning, so in his eyes, he isn't doing anything wrong. as for dbd, the entity has clearly invaded his mind and has put a fear into him to make him continue to kill for it. so no, I don't think bubba is a bad person, he is just clearly mentally challenged to a point of where he could arguably be classified as feral or insane to a degree.

  • It's a combination of them being rushed, their power being weak, all 3 perks being horrible, and the simple fact they they just aren't fun to play. lot's of people (myself included) refused to buy them because of the sheer incomitance that was displayed upon their release, and even after they ironed out (most of) the bugs, they are basically just a killer that can sort of slug effectively. but guess what? if you want a slugging machine, Oni is legit built for that, and he's top 5 killers. their design isn't even that good, and the amount of negative press they got from telling people they can't call victor a {REDACTED}, which he is, makes people hate them even more. the original concept may have been ok, but what we're left with is not at all worth anyone's time or money. the twins are the living example of behaviors profit incentive is going to destroy the game one day, it's only a matter of time.

If the game was not free when the servers were turned off I would agree. The only requirement is that the game is in your librarry. Not that you've played it. SO technically you fulfill the stated requirement.

never mind fellas, I have acquired the mask.

  • no clue. as a killer main, whenever I get shelter woods I think to myself "oh great I don't have to try" if you're caught anywhere near the middle of the map, you die, plain and simple. and its not even that the 6 or so pallets are strong. like 4 of them end up being filler pallets and you get 3 maybe 4 jungle gyms at most, and often times not even good ones. I agree I don't think it should be as open as it is, when I think of killer sided maps this is the top of the list.

  • Top 3:

    1: Oni

its so fun running around and b0nking people, I like the concept that he's like a stronger hillbilly that has to work for his power, and I LOVE his backstory and lore behind him. I'd kill for some more outfits for him. All of his addons are good, and some are downright BUSTED and make the game unwinnable for survivors (scalped topknot, I'm looking at you). I also have like 1500 hours on him too soooooo there's that.

    2: Michael Myers

the fact that he has addons that literally let you strait up kill people no matter their hook state is bonkers. I also like just stalking people from a distance, its super eerie and creepy, I love it.

    3: Freddy

ok this ones kinda obvious, he's got arguably the best map pressure in the game, he's crazy good at ending chases, passive slowdown, he's short so he can mindgame easier, perks that are good on other killers are godlike and almost downright unfair on Freddy, and I also just like nightmare on elmstreet.

    Bottom 3:

    1: Doctor

I hate his chase music, not a fan of the shock travel time, it feels clunky. I hate his chase music, its annoying, I hate his laugh, I just hate his whole aesthetic. his cosmetics are mostly all garbage in my opinion, they're way to over the top, and I just hate medical type horror in general. by far my least favorite killer.

    2: Plague

Plague in my opinion, is zero fun to play as and against. it's basically, oh boy, stay injured all game or die to corrupt purge. and while playing her, if the survivors do just that, you have no power. I also hate all of her cosmetics, I don't think there is a single good one among them. Plague has all the same problems as legion but dialed up, because at least legion has tracking built into his power, and extra movement speed and slowdown.

    3: Legion

oh boy I'm an edgy teen look at me go! *stab stab* he has almost no lethality, people can just 99 heals, deny you of you power by stunning you, and at the end of the day, what happens if they just stay injured? gens fly and suddenly you've lost. just not a fan, his design seems unfinished and clunky. I do have to admit though, he has some bomb ass cosmetics, I'll give them that.

  • I'd definitely like to see the return of the old balanced landing. this is coming from a killer main btw. of course, only AFTER haddonfield (and the other maps for sake of consistency) is reworked and graphically updated. I liked the added effect of the stagger reduction even if you're exhausted. although I'd change it so that you only get like 50% fall reduction when exhausted, but still reduce the noise made by 100%

  • @Almo said:

I have Devour Hope with 5 tokens and Undying. Someone cleanses DH. The totem disappears. The Undying totem is now a Devour Hope totem with 5 tokens, and the Undying perk shuts off.

for once, I actually agree with almo on something. this is very simple to understand. this legit how the perk will function, it's fairly easy to understand

DS is mostly fine. I'd reduce the timer to 45 seconds and disable it when in a locker. I rarely get hit with DS when I play.

yes, you see that's a completely fair change. and yet they still haven't changed it. when you play as much as I do at rank 1, EVERY game has it on multiple survivors. By itself it doesn't bother me as much, but when combo'd with unbreakable it becomes literally cheating.

  • @TheClownIsKing said:

I am a long time killer and I simply do not understand how so many killers can get upset about DS.

The devs won’t change it because the survivor can only use it ONCE. This means the absolute MAXIMUM amount of times a killer can be stunned by it is 4.

Just eat the stun. It’s really not that crippling. That survivor is now vulnerable for the remainder of the trial.

ok, clearly you don't understand what 4 DS does to a killer. its not just 5 seconds of stun, its roughly 30 seconds on average of time lost. the fact that the timer is 60 seconds makes it so they can be unhooked, healed, another person does down, they go for the rescue, get hit, downed, and still have DS up. 4 DS stuns roughly translates to 2 minutes of lost time. that's enough for several gens to be popped if the survivors are competent. and when combo'd with unbreakable they have a full 60 seconds of invincibility. It is absolutely crippling because it basically gives a survivor a 4th hook state, and there can be 4 of them. I don't understand how you can't comprehend that.

  • Oni for sure. Nothing makes me freak out faster than a raging demon charging at me with a massive club at Mach 5 speeds

If Nurse or Spirit didn't stand a chance against those teams. What makes u think Oni can?

Yes u will be getting downs here and there but not enough to keep gen speeds :/ and one more thing. Are u from Pc? Maybe I had go against u in the past if not I will look forward to go against your Oni :)

it's not that nurse or spirit couldn't handle the teams, its the tournaments rules that kinda changed how they had to play, and it, in my opinion, allowed the survivors to have an upper hand. regardless, whether you win or not can be entirely up to circumstance, so it can be anyone's game if your cards are played right. and also, yes I'm PC. I either play as "The Big Bingus" like my name on here, but I often play as "piss" as well. i hope to see you in game sometime as well :)

  • @Slashstreetboy said:

By the way, do you have any advanced tips for playing shack and short wall gyms correctly? I know how to run these with a standard M1 Killer, but these always give me the hardest time with Oni.

Playing shack is fairly simply, you don't wanna hug the wall, you wanna make larger turns so you can actually turn the corners, and the best mind game you can do is when they're going to the window, show your red light and charge your dash, and then make a read if they are gonna vault or stay. 9/10 times they will vault, so I usually run kinda against the wall and to the outside of the window and you down them there. shortwalls are quite tricky, its usually best to not use your power there, but if you need to, use the dash right about when they're running to the vault window, and quickly tap left and right to slow yourself so you can turn properly, and from there you can catch them if you made the turn properly.

You can guarantee a M1 against almost any team due to bloodlust still existing. I've had games where I lost 3 gens due to people pre-dropping pallets and I still won just due to how insane his power is. He's at least top 5.

exactly, this is what I keep telling people. you can pre-drop pallets all you want, but Oni WILL eventually get that first hit, and when he does, all it takes is one good use of your power to win the game. and scalped topknot basically guarantees a down if you see somebody, making him even more busted.

Thank you much! It sounds like you mostly approve of what I'm currently using and just need a little Infectious Fright to maximize slugging capability. I'm going to try it with what I have available (Build 3) tomorrow. Oni definitely had a steep ramp up but I think I'm starting to get the hang of the Dash, the Tetsubo slam, and the best ways to utilize momentum. Even the games I get with zero kills are always fun since I've hooked everyone multiple times and it's a harrowing escape for the Survivors (at least, when I'm not up against SWF anyway). Appreciate the insight!

Awesome! and yes exactly, your build is quite good if you use it correctly. infectious is definitely his best perk, but you can still 100% do well without it, he's an amazing killer regardless once you get the hang of the demon dash and demon strike timings. another incredibly important skill I suggest you keep a conscious effort in mind of when you're playing is when to slug, and when to pick up. you keep you're power progress when you pick someone up, so if you down someone with nobody else around, often times its better to pick up, because you'll get your power back soon. I hope you get really good! I think the community needs more Oni players, he's such a good killer and so fun to play.

  • Hey man, I main Oni and have roughly 1500 hours on him give or take. I would SERIOUSLY recommend you get infectious fright on Oni, it turns him into a completely different killer. If you end up getting all the perks from the killers, I'd personally recommend 1 of 2 builds, and then if not, I'll recommend what I would run with what you've listed.

Build 1: BBQ, Infectious fright, Pop goes the weasel, and Monitor and Abuse

Build 2: BBQ, Infectious fright, Hex: Ruin, Hex: Undying

Build 3 with what you've listed you have: Pop goes the weasel, BBQ, Tinkerer, Corrupt intervention.

Build 1 is to maximize your slugging potential with Monitor makin your terror radius massive so infectious has a bigger range, and you can sneak up to survivors easier, because Oni's chase music is strangely quiet. Build 2 is to maximize gen slowdown, and is what I've been using since undying came out. BBQ is amazing on Oni, keep it for sure. sloppy butcher actually doesn't increase the amount of blood orbs you get, so its not as good as you may think. Build 3 lets you have more time at the start to get that first hit with corrupt, and it has stealth synergy with tinkerer, so you can instantly catch someone off guard with your power, down them, use the pop, and repeat the process when you see someone on BBQ. Hope I helped! -An Oni main who seriously loves this killer and loves trying to get more people to give him a shot.

And no one will stick together If they know what they are doing and a that point it's guessing to where they could possible be (aka wasting power) Haven't u seeing the Oni in Hexy's tournament? Yeah.. That sumps it up

The Oni in hexy's tournament had no ######### clue what he was doing, he made so made mistakes it's laughable. honestly, you're acting like Oni against a optimal swf group in an instant loss, when its not, there are tons of ways to beat them, you just have to play your cards right, which I have done on more than one occasion.

  • @Bard said:

    It's. Fine.

Oni with the add-on goes from being "mediocre" to being "almost good enough".

Still starts the game as a pure M1 killer. Still has a power that's borderline useless at jungle gyms. Still entirely beatable.

No, Oni with this addon goes from top 5 killers in the game to top 3 killers in the game when played properly, which I do. he is a pure m1 killer for a single hit, which good players can get if they know what they're doing. Oni is a f*cking nightmare with this addon, I would know, that's why I don't use it anymore, unless I suspect it's a SWF bully squad or something.

  • @Unifall said:

There's people out there who just play the game casually so alot of people don't know how to play oni as optimal as possible. Scalped topknot doesn't make the games unwinnable everything has a counter. Its easy to run around an oni around a good pallet set up or a T wall ive done it other people have done it. Scalped topknot is one of his best and most used add ons because his other add ons are just really bad. Just play other killers or without add ons if you feel too bored.

you really can't run a good Oni around anything, let alone an L T wall. bad Oni's will try and use their dash everywhere, and that's what ######### them up at a t wall. wanna know what lets you use your dash on an L T wall though? Scalped top knot. trust me dude, this addon is basically old instasaw Billy on crack, and if you combo it with a speed or duration addon it is really unfair.

So you have played 1500 hours on specifically oni over the 400 days hes been out, around 3.5 hours a day all on oni

sounds like you are lying a bit on how much you have played oni

I play this game every day, and I pretty much only play Oni, 1500 hours isn't all in game time, and it's perfectly feasible that I spend about 6 or so hours a day give or take on dbd, when I'm not working. if you account for load screens and leveling up and all that. and I said about. I don't keep exact track on how long I've exactly played the character, so why don't your negativity elsewhere.

  • @Kaiju said:

Tbh if u face squads like that then they weren't playing ''optimally'' since u NEVER give an Oni early hit and they could pre drop every pallet denying u of your power until the end of the game.

Back to topic I don't think is op at all since u don't have ur power 24/7, it screws u more than help since u get used to that short transition that without the addon u start to realize that certain tiles that were ''playable'' with the STK, can't be played without. I'm an Oni main too btw

not true, monitor and abuse makes it incredibly easy to get a first hit off one somebody if you catch them out of position. you just need to zone properly with your approach and it becomes incredibly easy to get a first hit. and lets say they did pre-drop every pallet. they cant run you for 5 gens, in any scenario, you need to zone them in a different direction if they're pre-dropping pallets. sure that may allow them to get 2 or 3 gens done but with Oni, if you get your power before 4 gens pop and you use it right, you instantly put yourself in a winning scenario.

I believe another guy posted recently about a tournament squad with 4 brand new parts going for a world record, I've beaten a squad like that before. I got kinda lucky and slugged all 4 at 2 gens left, but still destroyed them in chase. ive beaten a few bully squads that abuse DS unbreakable and play like #########, but i don't know any particular names. however i have played against Monto and his friends once, i got 3 of them but monto escaped through the hatch. a fitting end XD

  • @Mandy said:

I would be interested to see the unedited version though - it skipped from having someone on the hook and someone down in a corner to having the hooked person escape and the downed person at full health.

Even in saying that, these matches where teams just focus the gens and not make save and come prepared with toolboxes like that, are pretty rare - it's not every match, that's not to say it's not going to happen at all, but it's rare. And I've seen matches just as quick where the killer has stomped all 4 survivors, again rare but it happens.

the fact that it can happen at all is poor game design, there's no excuse for it.

unfortunately no, this was posted a couple days ago by a satire twitter account that makes dbd content. leaksbydaylight confirmed that its not real. although funny enough, everyone whos seen this, from what I can tell, would be quite happy with these changes. unfortunately the devs are too stupid to take the hint, and we'll have to wait an entire year more for DS to be fixed.

  • that's actually a really good idea, that would counter 99ing a heal and popping it mid chase. i honestly like it, it turns a garbage status effect into something actually useful.

  • @Zozzy said:

But do you also filter the survivors they play against and what the survivors did (suicide on hook) when doing this to determine if a killer is op?

We all know there is ZERO match making right now and any rank killer can be matched against any rank survivor. We are also aware that rank 1 or red rank survivor will be achievable by almost everyone given enough time since you removed rank reset. So how do you know that the killer is facing good survivors?

I just played as death slinger and everyone suicided on hook. Does this count as 1 point to him being overpowered or did you see this and disregard this match?

nope, they don't factor any of that in. anybody who actually knows how statistics work would take one look at Almo's "statistics" and reasoning for his balance changes and laugh. he really doesn't know enough about how numbers work to be head of a balance team.

Resist the urge to make trails everywhere. Leave 1-3 second trails at choke points, like pallets, under windows, or the only way out of one side of a jungle gym. Remember they disappear when placed within a few meters of hooks or gens, so don't bother.

The second trick is to drop it while you are being looped by a Survivor, like around a vehicle or large rock. Often times they won't think about it, and as you run the circle they will step into the Torment wire.

thank you! I'll try and incorporate that into my gameplay!

Might be coming back from my prescribed mental health break from DBD. Was thinking of trying oni, as the title asks, is he really underrated? Or is he overhyped?

Hello! Oni main with around 1500 hours on him here! for starters, the bug that locks him out of his power has been fixed! (thank god, those months were absolute hell) If you like killers with a decently high skill ceiling, then Oni is your guy! learning the movement and how to flick your shots on certain tiles can be tough, but once you get the hang of him he's a monster. if you play your cards right, if you get your power before 2 gens are done, you've basically guaranteed a win if you have the right perks / game knowledge. In my opinion, he's the definition of a strong but fair killer. his power is one of the strongest if not the strongest in the game, but you've gotta work for it. in my opinion, he's tied with hag for being the third strongest killer in the game, strongest being nurse then spirit. he's incredible fun, and there's nothing more satisfying then hitting a sweet curve in a loop with a demon strike. plus he's got some of the best cosmetics in the game, that actually change appearance when you use your power! I'd recommend him! always great to see new people playing Oni, I don't see the big guy getting much love recently. any questions I'd love to answer them!

Im playing survivor too. But i have only one P3 all perks. How often do you play with BP-Offerings and BBQ when you play killer?

i always play with bbq and use offerings whenever i can. but like half of my total points, even ones i make on killer i use on Nea for items and stuff.
