Depends alls it takes is DR and now your useless or a few aura perks can cause your stealth to be completely useless but you are right you will get better eventually. Try playing killer and watch how good survivors loop will help alot as well.
Heh, I am a killer main. I'm dipping my toe into survivor to see things from a different perspective.
The only time the distortion breaks down for me is with a no TR killer with aura abilities. Even then, by the time I eat my 3 tokens, I know pretty well what aura reading they are running and how to counter if possible.

Not to be rude but your always going to suck unless you get into chases. Windows is a great perk if your not good at chase it helps you plan out where to go next. Even if you go down in 10 seconds you can learn from it.
I get into chases, it's why I do actually run windows. Even if I wasn't doing saves and such, stealth is never perfect. I'll eventually get better at them with time, but for now, staying stealthy is the best option for me and the team.

I don't think Survivors should be able to see the perks of other Survivors in lobby because there'd be a lot of dodging. For me, I would dodge any Survivor running Sole Survivor (which is over the top "I'm playing for myself") or Distortion. Typical match with Distortion in play, I and another teammate have two hooks, a third teammate has one hook and is in chase, and the teammate running Distortion hasn't been hooked and not in chase. They're hiding in a bush on Dead Dawg.
Start with three tokens. If the perk is to regenerate tokens, make it based on time spent in chase and not in the Killer's terror radius. Otherwise, three tokens is more than enough. I don't think the perk should regenerate tokens, though. It leads to too much selfishness in Solo Queue. It's like Keys before their rework. The teammate is playing for him/herself.
Yeah no. Am I selfish in that I don't try to make sure that I get my equal time in chase and number of hooks as everyone else? Sure, I'm terrible in chase as survivor and I'm not going to be buying anyone much time, so I'm best serving the team by staying out of sight and slamming gens. I run Kindred so I can see if I need to go for save, which I'm happy to do unless they are being camped. I'll heal and bodyblock as I can. I run distortion to help keep me alive so I can do these things. Once gates are open, I have no problem sacrificing myself to get someone else out of the gate, but I guess I'm still the selfish one that needs a perk nerfed to force me into more (very short) chases that just leads to my teammates wasting time trying to rescue me.
-
Just a random thought that popped up while reading this on a smoke break: What if a random gen with 0 progress or the lowest progress gen would auto-complete for each survivor that DC'd as long as there were at least 3 gens remaining. Maybe having a condition of at least one hook state on each survivor could counter-act this. I don't know, just something to even the odds a bit.

NA Midwest and almost always killer incentive for a few hours in the evening and survivor incentive during the morning and afternoon. Don't know about super late/early hours as I'm out like a light by 10-11 most nights.
Quality of players also seems to follow this trend. Daytime is better survivors, worse killers and vice versa in the evenings. This is why I limit my survivor play to my days off so I can play during the day, and then on the evenings I play, I log into my killer roster.
-
Honestly, from what I've seen, the experience will vary wildly depending on mmr, region, platform, crossplay usage, regular time and day of play, and what you want out of the game. Best thing to do is to read up on the past few patches and hop in and see what it's like for you.
-
From best to worst imo (although all have thier uses):
Discipline
Restraint
Calm
Order
-
My "I'm still getting a grip on this whole survivor thing" build:
Windows - Because I suck in a chase as survivor. The easier it is for me to see what I have to use, the more I can put my melon to work on the problem of how to use it.
Kindred - SoloQ 100% so knowing if it's worth going for the save vs staying on gens, or if the killer is making a beeline to my location is huge.
Distortion - to help reduce the chances of the previously mentioned scenario of a killer making a beeline for me.
Spine Chill - In the again previously mentioned scenario of a killer making a beeline for me, I can see from my new hiding spot how close they are to finding me and if they are leaving the area. Also not bad with chases to know when the killer has broken off as I'm still bad with the third person camera.

Well since my intentional 0k-ing had brought me down to the probably lowest killer ELO possible, i had it quite often that survivor would completely lose their head and fail to progress after I got my 8th hook and still multiple gens had to be done.
Either i went strolling around the map hitting someone i came across while looking for breakable walls and dropped pallets.
Or if they wasted their time trying to style on me with flashlights or stuff, i went and killed them in the order of their first down.
Or i start zooming around the map as oni, scaring them and looking for leftover orbs.
Or collected all my traps as killer and layed them out in whatever pattern i came up at the moment.
And so on, looking for different kinds of entertainment with different killers to pass the time until they finish the gens.
This. Another favorite for me is to just chase a survivor but not swing at them, mostly to see how long it takes for them to realize I'm not going to down them. Sometimes they'll start farming pallets which I'll do a few of but find very boring. Often they just stop and turn and look at me, in which case I nod then run off to find someone else to chase.

If you play both sides equally, then you should have the exact same kill rate as escape rate. Your game skills would translate equally to both sides.
Disagree. The fact that survivors are third person camera vs first person makes it far more difficult for me to settle into than killers. Especially considering how much you have to utilize it in chases. My macro game and stealth play is pretty decent in survivor, but I get destroyed in chases because I can't get the hang of the camera. I do play killer way more, but that's largely due to it being far more difficult for me to get the hang of the camera.

Do like i did, SAY NOTHING.
I played 2 years with the 8hooks+0kills/12hooks playstyle and from my pov "GG" came OVERWHELMINGLY only after games where i didn't even get 5 hooks.
Most often it was just silence no matter the platform and it was okay. But when GG comes way more often after a crushing defeat and NEVER after i won then it loses its polite meaning.
Only a true minority were explicitly friendly (mostly during events) and the same amount was still toxic even with my "fair and friendly" playstyle.
Nah, we had someone in here not too long ago complaining about people not saying anything after the match as well. Just do what you are gonna do and people need to understand the sentiment behind the message.

So it's literally that simple: Show killers profiles to the survivor prior to the match, because... Why not?
Reason for it: If a killer tunnels or camps - which is publicly despised i guess - many people credit that with a '-rep' on the killers profile. Of course this is extremely subjective, but if there are 3 pages of these comments and not a single '+rep', it's trustworthy - right? Regardless: The killer has the option to look at the survivors profile prior to the match and dodge the lobby if appropriate. Why shouldn't survivors be able to do so?
Streamers could avoid stream sniping by turning on the anonymous mode and if you don't want the survivors looking at your profile, you could do the same or even make your profile private.
Any arguments against it?
I'm good with it. If the survivors profiles are available, so should ours. Otherwise both should be hidden. I don't bother checking profiles but I know it's a thing with a lot of people.

I'm going the route of P3ing all killers as that's what I mostly play and it will make leveling new killers much easier. On the survivor side, I'm doing it as @WorthlessBeing mentioned and running one main survivor then P1ing all the others that I don't play, then leveling up their perks in my main's bloodweb.

Tunneling and camping here depends a LOT on the region where the killers are from. West and central EU often play more chill, while eastern EU killers often sweat like hell.
Oh I believe it. Seems like most people in the game can't understand how much the experience can vary depending on a LOT of factors. Hence why there are so many arguments with wildy opposing points of view.

The game is too easy as Killer in ~95% of (my) matches. If I intentionally go for max hooks as Blight, I can do so without bug abuse or massive gen regression, and only bring "feel good" perks. If I want to do that as Bubba, I might need to bring a little more lethality (bamboozle) or 2 gen regression/slowdown perks. If I want to do that as Sadako I need 3 or 4 slowdowns or 3 or 4 lethality perks (hexes usually). I am slowly trying to wean off my dependency on those perks however.
That last ~5% of matches are the matches where I actually get put against either co-ordinated SWFs, or all 4 soloq players that play like they aren't the practice bots (exaggerating). Those are the matches where my skills are actually put to the test as opposed to slowly painting by numbers a foregone conclusion of a "win".
When someone starts to crutch on camping and tunneling they don't build up the muscle in their Killer legs to walk on their own without it. To anyone that claims they can't "win" any match without camping, tunneling, or X perk (setup), I recommend you throw off what is holding you back. Struggle, build back up your muscles, and you will be able to walk, run, and sprint again in no time. Some Killers are so bad that they may require some level of crutch to be playable (Corrupt Intervention on Trapper for example), but most don't.
I can "win" camping and tunneling and in a recent match as Wesker I pulled off a 3k. I couldn't adapt to people greeding the gens at the cost of their fellow Survivor's hook states. My intel perks were tied to unhook (Lethal Pursuer+floods of rage and at least 1 Surv had Distortion), so after hook I had no good direction in where to go. I could barely find people and when I did they would fall quite quickly. Eventually I was able to get all but one of them. MMR says I "won" that match, but I know the truth, I lost.

It's just hard to believe that you have it that easy as killer. Many killer players like myself know how to chase normally, and if it weren't for that knowledge, we couldn't camp or tunnel as effectively because the survivor wouldn't be on the hook in the first place. There's no room to grow as a new killer, because if you just go for chases, you're gonna lose at a certain point. Killers don't want to lose over and over, due to gen speed, not because of survivors looping really well, just to get good with killer. When they get good, they'll come to the same conclusion that we have, which is that it just isn't worth it, and you're better off tunneling.
You're pointing out exactly what I'm saying. Killers that suck need gen defense and need to tunnel. We just disagree on how much of the killer roster sucks. I think everyone but Nurse, Blight, and maybe Artist and Wesker sucks. They don't have the potential to down quick enough to stop the gens from all getting done. I'm experimenting with Pain Res/Overcharge/Pop right now, and maybe that will change my mind. But I still think those perks at least by themselves are way overrated. If anything, I am playing hard mode from everyone else's pov, because I don't use Call Of Brine/Overcharge/Eruption. I think it's countered by gen tapping.
Don't let some misplaced sense of honor take away your win. There's no stinking honor in any of this, and even if there was, the survivors aren't gonna recognize that because they insult you whether you play fair or not. If you get 3-4 kills, regardless of the means, you win. I would love to be your opponent if I knew that you wouldn't use every strategy available to you to beat me.
Both of these experiences are true. How easy it is to play killer varies wildly depending on MMR, time of day, platform, crossplay, region, etc. That's why you get these vastly different experiences that both players swear are true - they are, but both players aren't riding on the same train.
Camping and tunneling is a complex issue that requires a complex solution to effectively reduce while still being fair to everyone involved. There is no single silver bullet fix that will make everything sunshine and rainbows for everyone.
You'll note I said reduce and not eliminate because you'll never completely remove it. People who don't care about anything but trolling someone else will still do it in some form. The simple fix with a very complex execution is to adjust the game so that camping and tunneling are not the most efficient methods of winning a match, and do it in a manner that doesn't punish killers or survivors overall. This require pulling a lot of levers and then making sure things are relatively balanced in the end. I think it can be done, the question is if BHVR have the will and development space to do it.
-
Sigh. There is no silver bullet single solution to stop camping and tunneling while still being fair to everyone involved. Just like most complex issues (and it is actually a complex issue), it requires a balanced solution with multiple measured approaches. To put it in terms used in this thread, you need carrots and sticks, spread over a number of game systems.
Even then, it won't ever completely go away because you'll still have the players who don't care at all about winning or bloodpoints or anything other than trolling other players for their own amusement. However, you CAN make it so it is never the most efficient, effective way to win the match.
-
Spirit and Plague are both killers I play quite a bit of. I would describe the difference between them as Spirit is a more mobile, chase oriented killer. She has simpler gameplay (note not easier), but is a more fast action-oriented killer. She excels at the micro-game: using her power to out play or out mind game survivors at loops, and failing that, using it to negate the distance they gain if they outplay her. She has a few options of play, my personal favorite is taking more of a stealth approach with her.
Plague on the other hand is much more about the macro game - seeing the bigger picture, understanding where all the survivors are, what they are doing, and adjusting to counter that. She has one of the best chase powers in the game, but you have to have a gameplan to gain access to that power (and there are multiple approaches to do so). You have to pay attention to what the survivors are doing and adjust your game accordingly, being able to swap from one style of play to another at a moment's notice. She is more of the chess player's killer.
-
I definitely prefer the cinematic moris. I stare at my arms and hands all freaking match. It's nice to see my killer at work from an outside perspective.
-
Not at all. It's literally time played, which does not necessarily equal skill.

First would be the ones that give up the instant something doesn't go their way, second would be myself.

i guess we could try that, thanks
An important thing to note is I don't JUST screw around. Most matches I play normally, and I usually go pretty hard right out of the gate. Once I have a good picture of what I'm up against, then I kind of make a decision on how I want to play out the match. Usually it's played through normally, but if the survivors seem up for some screwing around and i'm in the mood or I know it's a lost cause for either side, then I'll probably step outside the box to enjoy the match and still keep things enjoyable for them. The first step though is to just get out of the head space where you MUST 3-4k to feel good about a given match.

tbh i can play any killer, but its just the fact that i need to get sweaty every game, its impossible for me to have fun, i try butt these survivors are just i dunno scared?
Be okay with losing by not getting the 3-4k. Change your personal wincon. I had the same problem. I got to an MMR that was pretty brutal for me so I started making smaller goals for myself and smurfing to get my MMR back down a bit. Once I got to a comfortable place, I kept my 8 hooks before a kill mentality and slowly improved my game.
I try to manage my MMR carefully now, but also knowing when is the best times to play helps as well. If I get a team that just flat out outplays me, I'll just go back to small goals like "I'm going to down this clicky-boi Steve if it takes me 5 gens to do it". After I get the down I let them go with out hooking to get the point across that I was having fun with the chase.
I don't care if I "win" by the community standards anymore. I just play for whatever entertains me at the time. Sometimes that's chasing survivors without ever actually swinging at them to see how long it takes for them to realize I'm not going to down them. Sometimes it's playing a reverse hide and seek, or just playing for jump scares. My goal is to have fun, and try to make sure everyone else does too if possible. Everybody wants something different from the game so you can't please everybody. Just gotta find what works for you.

I mean I play most killers but Plague, Spirit, Doc, Slinger, Sadako, Huntress, Clown, Nemesis, Wesky are the ones I play pretty much all the time. The ones I don't like playing at all or have no desire to play are Nurse, Blight (have actually never loaded a Blight game), Artist, Pyramid Head, Hag, Twins, and Wraith. Everything else I play occasionally when I have a challenge, find some dumb meme I want to do, or just want to shake things up a bit.

please tell me ur definition of FUN, its getting gen rushed?
staying stuck in one build to have a chance?
getting tunneled out of the game at 4 gens
getting so much hate and vile words because u won?
you know, loading into a game getting either a SWF and getting stressed or just cheaters is very fun according to NOBODY
this game ISN"T FUN, it was fun before this game is a ranked mess with people that are as 1 dimensional as a brick wall, with some few individuals sometimes making it a bit fun for either side
and you know everyone here complaining shows a lot of people have fun aren't they?
For me, I don't really deal with any of that. My killers are at a sweet spot right now where I can play fairly relaxed and have a decent challenge without having to sweat like crazy. I play considerately so even on 4ks, I don't get any negative chat. On the survivor side, most matches seem to be against similar minded killers, so while occasionally I get tunneled/ camped, overall it's a good experience. On the crappy matches, I just turn around and goof off to entertain myself.
In the end, I'm glad there is no ranks other than getting my grades to iri once a month if I want to max the BP bonus. I don't have anything staring me in the face to motivate me to play harder. I generally don't care too much if I win or lose, as long as the match was fun. If more people would simply let go of the idea that they must crush their opposition every match, and learn to have fun just playing, this game would be a lot better for all.

I don't play for BP. I literally have 2.9 million of them stocked. I play for enjoyment and I haven't found the game to have been too bad since the killer buffs... but then I don't take it very seriously. Despite being a survivor main I have actually always championed for killers to feel a bit more fairly empowered.
I am growing tired of the slug player three to find player 4 dance that has been prevalent in most games... but they're fixing that now so its cool.
Heh, had a Legion do that to me in swamp. When he ran off to go down and hook the last survivor, I just crawled away to hide, sticking to the grass to hide my blood trail. He came back and was madly searching all over to find me. He finally ran off to find hatch to lock me in and start the EGC. Still couldn't find me after and I eventually bled out but I was entertained by it. I figure if he wants to waste people's time, then two can play at that game, lol.
-
I've been playing survivor lately to see things from the other side and to improve my killer play. First impressions from the first 30-40 games so far is not too bad. Don't get me wrong, I've had plenty of matches that were pretty awful. Between bad teammates (which if you are worse than me, that's saying something) and killers that...play less than considerately, we'll say, there have been some bad experiences.
Overall though, my escape rate seems to fall in the 40ish percent average and it feels okay. Losing one more game out of ten than I should doesn't seem too bad. I think the losses feel worse as survivor since there is that gap of power level between you and the killer. That inability to turn and face them head on leaves a bit of a feeling of helplessness that stings a bit more than you get as killer.
Could the experience be improved? Oh hell yes, but I certainly wouldn't call it unplayable or even unfun overall, otherwise I wouldn't keep going back. I will say picking the right times during the day to choose to play killer or survivor helps out massively.
-
DC problem > Hacker problem for me.
-
I'm waiting it out to see how it plays, but with past experience with hard-core sabo/boilover squads, my prediction is it won't be a big deal (Twins excluded) until it is. Until you hit that squad that will make it impossible to hook in the first place, and you no longer have counterplay by slugging until it's safe to hook.
The other prediction is at least for me, I'll probably slug more. I generally avoided it because I didn't want a survivor to be stuck on the ground for a minute or two out of consideration. Now that I know they can get themselves up, it's not as big of a deal and I can go ahead and slug the injured survivor that was working on the gen and the chase down his healthy buddy for the actual hook.
-
I'd say matchmaking is working in some form because at least it's consistent. Daytime is the best survivors worst killers and nighttime is the opposite. Lately I've been trying my hand at survivor, and I'll play earlier in the day until evening rolls around and then I'll switch back to killer when survivor matches start getting rough consistently.
-
I usually make a beeline away from a survivor i just hooked because i want to put pressure on a third survivor assuming a second is on the way to unhook the first. Now sorry, but normally I will immediately return or not leave in the first place if:
- I spot you hiding out a few meters away waiting to unhook.
- you unhook before my TR has even gone from the area of the hook. Smaller indoor maps are an exception, but rule of thumb, if it's a straight shot back and I can be back in under 6-7 seconds, I'm coming for the rescuer.
- I run into you heading toward the hook as I'm leaving and you continue towards the hook.
Unless I'm almost 100% confident I've got the game in the bag, I'll head back to the area of the hook under these conditions and while an outside observer just sees me down someone near the hook and thinks "oh he's camping" I'm 100% justified in those plays as it's the survivors screwing up while I'm giving an absolutely fair chance to safely unhook.

Make a bot system.
If someone DC's, add a bot using their build/items/add-ons and with their hook state if it was a Survivor.
Bots can be different based off of that match/players MMR.
Remove the DC penalty.
Everyone wins. The person who DC's gets to move on to another match. The players in the match aren't cucked over by being down a teammate. The Killer doesn't lose out on a ton of BP because someone DC'd.
I'd 100% be down for that, and that may be a viable alternative this winter if BHVR is still on track with the custom match bots. Right now however, they don't exist, and even when they exist, there are big questions as to how well they will work.
Sort those two things out and I'm with you.

Why keep a system that punishes innocent players, like you, if it doesn't even fix the problem it was designed to solve?
Make a new system and replace this one.
Maybe not fix, but keeps from being worse. And as I said, maybe it's because it doesn't go far enough.
If you have a realistic alternative that you think would work, I'd love to hear it and if I agreed, i'd support it.

I am well on record as being vehemently opposed to ditching the DC penalty, and I am very much against special treatment, but I can see a case for eliminating the DC penalty for content creators, because they are disproportionately affected by cheaters. Players with high visibility should be whitelisted.
Yes, everyone experiences cheating in some way shape or form, but most of us only really feel a fraction of what streamers do, and much less "hostage taking", which is the only form of cheating that would be addressed by getting rid of the penalty.
This is a really difficult situation to address. On its face, ditching the DC penalty seems like an obvious way to address one of the symptoms of the cheating disease, but it will exacerbate an issue that is far more prevalent (chronic disconnectors).
What's to be done? I don't know, but one thing I am sure of is that replacing one problem by making a bigger one worse is not the play.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3201965#Comment_3201965
More often than that for me. Like one of every three games I play has a DC or obvious suicide on hook that all but ruins the game.
Put it in people's heads that they can DC freely because of cheating, they'll start seeing it everywhere anytime something doesn't go their way. Everyone will be "moving a little too fast", "getting gens done a little too quick", etc. Everything will becomes a justification to bail, and those who are already prone to it will do it without compunction.
It would get completely out of hand, as it's nearly to that point already. It'd be a match shopping meta.
I'm just counting actual DCs that ruin the match and not ones that are inconsequential or the hook suicides. Otherwise it would be 1 in 2 or 1 in 3 matches.

I don't think it will.
You've already said that the DC penalty is ineffective at actually stopping people from DC'ing or suiciding on hook. I played for two years prior to the penalty being added and at this point, it's almost exactly the same as it was before.
People will still DC when they hear a Nurse. People will DC when they get downed first. People will DC when they get tunneled.
The penalty isn't doing anything.
Sure it's not stopping many, but if you tell people "Hey, if you don't like (X) thing, just hit escape and in two minutes we'll have in a whole new match!" more will take advantage of it, especially with the current state of the game and community. I'd prefer to increase the penalties, even with DCing myself once or twice a day due to my internet. It's just gotten to the point where if it gets much worse, there's little point in playing if every other match is ruined by a DC.
-
Yeah no thank you. The number of games I've had ruined by DCing VASTLY outnumbers the games I've had ruined by cheating. Like maybe 3 or 4 games ever by cheating, and every 6th or 7th game I play by actual DCs. If you don't think removing the penalty for dcing won't increase the number of people doing so, you are fooling yourself. All you are doing is helping to normalize ragequitting even more than it already is.

Holy hell, altruism/sabo squads are going to utterly own this game if this ends up eventually going live without some sort of counterplay or mechanism in place to prevent it.

Nah. Have some other cool portrait or reward for p50 or 100 or whatever. People do a thing and get a thing. People who do a different thing, get a different thing. Maybe a better thing, and that's fine, but you didn't do the first thing, so you don't get the reward for doing the first thing.

My frustration is 90% of the DCs I have to deal with don't really fall under most of these reasons. I don't play the ultra common and a-tier killers with the exception of maybe huntress. No nurse, blight, or legion. I don't facecamp or tunnel - I play for 8 hooks before I start sacrificing survivors. I generally don't BM or act like an ass.
However despite all of this, I still get DCs in probably a third of my matches, and the majority of them are first hook DCs. I get that at times their teammates are potatoes and in response to that they bail on the match, but many times, the leftover survivors are just fine. They unhook in a timely enough fashion. They push gens. It just screams of tantrum-throwing or some form of entitlement.

This really doesn't do anything to sway me. I play killer because:
- I'm not fond of playing in third person camera.
- I don't care for having others rely on me and vice versa
- I like playing the bad guys, even when I play them nicely.
