To be honest, my biggest issue with SWFs is how difficult is sometimes is to start a close ranged chase, when people are using voice comms to make it easier to pre-leave generators and hide before the killer gets there. And sometimes when I throw someone on a hook, it sometimes feels pointless to leave the hook to start patrolling generators, if I think the person on the hook might be using voice comms to warn people if I’m patrolling in their direction.

Exactly, so in that case it's more efficient to camp and then you get four people insulting you.

Don't get me wrong, I still try and split up my damage and take opportunity swings when I can, but if I hear the boon sound, I'm immediately tunneling without remorse.

Tunnelling is the intended counter. After all it's the only one.

They refuse to do it. Something about foreign languages on the same server and not wanting an opt-in feature to be a necessity.

Personally, I think they don't want to have to deal with the moderation issues involved. Without match recordings, which this game does not take, they'd have no way to touch whatever was said each match.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2727190#Comment_2727190

No. The issue is that the current balance of this game is SWF > Killer > Solo. Survivors and killers can never really be properly balanced, so it results in a situation where solos tend to get shat on, existing perpetually at the bottom of the totem pole, while SWFs can turn killer's game into a living hell or get out the gates in five minutes before the killer could hook more than three people through extreme time optimization.

The survivor and killer roles cannot be balanced when survivors simultaneously occupy a role of being stronger and weaker than the killer role at the same time. If survivors are brought on the same level, or at least very close to one instead of this massive gap that currently exists, we can finally - in theory - have a balanced game. But that does involve buffing killers because we are going to make survivors stronger on average than they currently are. (Of course, that requires them to implement solo queue buffs that ultimately matter, so we'll see.)

Voice chat + ping or whatever system. Don't use voice chat if you don't want to, use the ping system or the status icons.

I hope we at least get a locker status so we know when someone is hiding inside one and being useless.

There should not be locker icons because people will be toxic if they see you go in a locker.

Also more icons = higher burden of knowledge for new players.

No, this absolutely needs to happen. If they allow SWFs to remain in this grey area where they have way more information than the game intends anyone to, they're going to keep balancing for solo queue all the time (see: Pig, Cenobite, Wraith, Undying) and SWFs will remain the kryptonite that they are.

I'd take a growing pains period if we could finally get this game's 5-year juggernaut addressed. The gap has to be slimmed or killer will never be balanced.

Besides, solos are never going to coordinate as well or aggressively as players who are on Discord together.

Voice chat is officially supported, though it requires third party software. It's not a grey area, the game should already be balanced around voice chat.

  • @Laluzi said:

This. If I was on a gen, another teammate was on a gen, and a third teammate had the default status, I would assume teammate #3 was handling the save, and not act unless that teammate became chased. This is great if teammate #3 is handling the save, and it's not great if they're just wandering around lost, urban evading in a corner, or crossing the map and ignoring the hooked player to find another gen.

I think a ping system would complement this very nicely, because mechanically I can't think of a way to pick up that a player does or doesn't intend to rescue a hooked player.

Ping system + voice chat in game.

  • It's a good change, but voice chat still needs to be added to the game. Don't want to use it = rely on icons. Everyone else can use voice chat.

I think we all know that Engineer's Fang needed some...toning down, shall we say?

But why are we nerfing him. Seriously. This feels like the EXACT same thing that happened with Deathslinger, where BHVR nerfs a "problem" area and then forgets to buff any other part of their kit.

Where did you hear about any changes and what exactly are they?

My queue times are still super fast as survivor. I don't know but if I play Yui, the killer is a beginner. If I play Bill is the killer really good or really good in camping. Maybe it's just luck, I don't know 🙆‍♀️

Your queue times might be faster because of your region and / or timezone. In Central Europe queue times during the day are fast for Survivors, but they become much slower towards the late afternoon / evening.

After playing some more, I am 100% convinced they loosened the skill based matchmaking.

Or maybe it just broke, like basically anything in this game ever has at one point or another. Remember when disconnect penalties could be abused to give players who didn't disconnect a ban? And there were multiple times when it was supposedly fixed but then a day later or so it happened again? I think it's entirely possible for MMR to just break randomly without any direct changes from developers. That could be what's happening.

so it works *in theory* but in practice it does the square root of jack #########

most games do not require you to jump through hoops to report, they require you simply report the player, what they might be doing and then either a team or AI will check for anything suspicious and ban them accordingly, why BHVR can't do this is beyond me

Especially because there are dedicated servers and everything goes through the server at some point. It should be trivial to detect that someone is running around faster than should be possible, or is flying, or is throwing hatchets as a Killer that isn't Huntress. You shouldn't even need an anti-cheat like EAC for that, but somehow it's not detected by the server directly or EAC.

  • @DragonMasterDarren said:

The only thing i regret about posting the reasons why i stopped playing is that i never mentioned the rampant cheating problem, and i honestly do not know why or how i forgot considering that it is probably one of the major reasons why people are leaving

Cheating was already a problem before MMR, but because of BHVR's infinite wisdom, high MMR players have to deal with some of the, quite frankly, awe-inspiring cheats that people can use, speedhacking and no-clip are nothing compared to some of the crap cheaters are capable of, and the reporting system doing the square root of jack ######### doesn't help either

and the reporting system doing the square root of jack [BAD WORD] doesn't help either

The report system works if used correctly. The problems are:

    • using it correctly is a massive pain
    • the information how to use it correctly can't be found in-game

Here is what a lot of players are missing: You need to make a support ticket with (video) evidence when reporting someone using hacks.

So you need to record a video, upload the video, find the other player's ID, find your own ID because for some reason you need to include that, and make a support ticket. It's an annoying process because it just seems so unnecessary - other games don't require you to record a video, you just make a report in-game and that's that.

But then of course there are those people who give themselves slight speed boosts, or wallhacks, or other things that are not immediately obvious and that you can't really record and then there is nothing, as a player, you can really do about it.

The thing is I don't really wanna advise people to go and do things which cost money, hence why I mentioned free VPNs, or free trials. You shouldn't have to pay money to play a game securely you were able to a few weeks ago.

You shouldn't have to pay money to play a game securely you were able to a few weeks ago.

Absolutely this. Quick note: Some ISPs do provide good routers that support VPN. I don't know how many free VPNs support routers though, so that could be an issue.

  • +1 for including a source. Multiple +1s (which unfortunately are not possible) for the rest of the post.

One thing that should be added though:

So, on a PC there's one main thing you can do.

You can install a VPN on your router. That should protect you if you are playing on console as well. Not every router supports this. If you are using the router that was sent to you your ISP then there is a high chance it won't let you install a VPN. - often the routers that the ISPs provide are crap. You need to check the manual of your router or the router's menu to see if it's possible.

If your router does not support this you can buy one that does and replace the one your ISP sent you. Some ISPs in some countries require you to use their router, in that case you can activate Bridge Mode on your ISP router and connect your new router to your old router and install your VPN on the new router.

Not by default. If the 1 on the survivor team is better than the killer player, the killer shouldn't win a chase automatically because their power is so oppressive.

You also can't always play on a team where they all know the game perfectly to have a slight chance at winning.

Not by default. If the 1 on the survivor team is better than the killer player, the killer shouldn't win a chase automatically because their power is so oppressive.

I assume you are talking about the Killer winning a chase against the Survivors that are better than the Killer here. In that case the matchmaking failed, if the discrepancy in skill level is big enough that match should never have been "created".

Generally though the Killer should win a 1v1. Relatively reliably and relatively easily. Why? Because you are playing against four people. I agree that it is definitely a problem if the Killer wins too quickly but there should be a soft upper limit how long a 1v1 chase can go on for the chase to be considered fair / balanced.

Depands on how long you have been here. I was here when they removed 'infinites', when they nerfed midkets addons, when they nerfed keys and hatch, when they nerfed DS and OoO. all these didn't receive good feedbacks and foucs compaired to nerfing Pop from 60 to 45 sec or Spirit having vault animation.

Exhaustion nerf too, it used to recover while running at half speed. That was changed because it was dumb to have your Sprint Burst activate randomly in a chase at the perfect moment with no planning from the Survivor.

All of the things you listed were necessary nerfs (including the Killer ones) so I don't think the nerfs listed hint at any sort of bias towards one role over the other.

That's your assumption, they are not breaking any rule by just sharing their opinions, but there are users who specifically target them to belittle them and their ideas.

There's a big difference between discussing and insulting, if you want to prove them wrong, then you can share your argument and explain why you disagree with them, however it happens way too often that they get dismissed as "troll" just because their idea doesn't align with a majority of users.

If there was an equivalent of Reddit Gold here I would gild this post. Unfortunately there isn't so an upvote is the best I can do.

    @Sluzzy said:

Every patch brings a killer with little to no counterplay.

The new killer is an even stronger doctor where nobody but a few elite teams can even possibly survive against her.

All gameplay mechanics need to be called "killer sided mechanics" instead of being fair. The hatch mechanic is now designed strictly for killers alongside end game collapse.

Maps becoming more and more killer sided.

In my recent matches, all Iridescent survivors and an Ash-Level killer is winning.

When are we going to start getting patches that address the imbalances and bring the power of killers down a few notches?

I think it's too early to call whether the Killer is strong or weak. Plus there's usually changes between PTB and the live version. What changes would you suggest the Killer should get?

The hatch mechanic is now designed strictly for killers alongside end game collapse.

The hatch is a dumb mechanic and it honestly needs a big-ish rework. It doesn't feel good for anyone. You find it first as Killer? Cool, now the last Survivor is basically guaranteed dead. Survivor finds it first? Cool, now the game is over. It's completely down to luck with the Killer having an advantage because they are faster and they can freely move around the map - as Survivor there is the danger of being spotted, but Killer doesn't really have that.

A mechanic that lets the last Survivor escape needs to exist though, otherwise you might as well end the game as soon as three Survivors are dead. The easiest way I can think of that balances the hatch out is either transforming the last Survivor into a Killer, and adding some sort of light PvP where the two Killers stun each other if they hit the other one, or to transform the Killer into a Survivor. Then whoever finds the hatch first wins. That's a pretty extreme change though and almost certainly not a good idea.

Maps becoming more and more killer sided.

The problem here is the map RNG. Some maps can have absolutely awful RNG that results in areas that very much favor one side, and that also feels bad for whichever side draws the short stick.

In my recent matches, all Iridescent survivors and an Ash-Level killer is winning.

Rank / Grade (whatevever it's called) is irrelevant for matchmaking (as in it's literally not used) and basically only shows how much someone has played in the current "rank season".

When are we going to start getting patches that address the imbalances and bring the power of killers down a few notches?

I think it would a good idea if you posted some suggestions to kind of "kickstart" the discussion.

I wish they will communicate on realm beyond soon. I cant wait for new maps update.

    I hope for swamp next.

The upcoming chapter is called "Portrait of a Murder". The information so far had a lot of crow imagery, and a group of crows is called a murder. Most likely the Killer power uses the crows in some way, and both swamp maps have structures with lots of crows. That may be why the rework of the swamp maps hasn't happened yet, the crows might be getting an update.

  • @AhoyWolf said:

Or maybe they could just make the dull totems break when a unit of a Killer stomps on them.

This is also an interesting indirect NOED nerf. If the Killer destroys your Boon then there is one less possible NOED spawn permanently. If the Killer destroys your Boon totem 5 times then there are no totems left and NOED can't activate.

Similar situation with Hex:Plaything. If for example only one Survivor has a Boon perk and you keep breaking it eventually you run out of possible Plaything spawns.

  • @MrCalac123 said:

This is why a match replay system is needed. If you could view the match via 3rd person and see what everyone is doing, you could see if the Survivors suddenly get faster when out of your FOV.

A replay system is good but shouldn't be needed. The server must be "seeing" that Survivors are moving faster than should be possible and flag them for review by a human automatically for example.

Or Killers flying and throwing hatchets - that should be trivial to detect. But for some reason nothing seems to be done.

That's wrong according to the (admittedly old) FAQ: https://deadbydaylight.com/en/archives#faq

If you missed some rewards in The Rift, most of them will eventually be available in our in-game store after a minimum period of 6 months.

Most of them != all of them

This is the most recent information that I am aware of, if you or anyone else has a more current source then please let me know. It's possible that the FAQ only talks about the charms, but it's also possible that other cosmetics are included in the FAQ statement.

    @Nathan13 said:

yeah they're easy, and the event was extended through the 12th which was plenty of time to get the cosmetics.

Even if it's easy I see no reason to essentially "force" players to play during the event to get the items. Plus there's the issue with players who do / did not play the game during the event, for example because they haven't even purchased it yet. Those players are then forever locked out of getting the items.

  • It was never confirmed that everything would come to the store.

If you missed some rewards in The Rift, most of them will eventually be available in our in-game store after a minimum period of 6 months. (More details to be revealed at a later date.)

    Source (emphasis added): https://deadbydaylight.com/en/archives#faq

    Most of them != all

It's possible that this is only about charms but it doesn't explicitly say that. It's entirely possible that some cosmetic items never return.

It's simple to keep it good at higher levels without enabling the situations where it adds 30+ seconds to a chase because you pressed a button:

Short answer: A very energy-use/carbon-producing intense MLM (MultiLevelMarketing). It's a new form of a ponzi scheme. some people will cry bloody murder that there's crapto and nfts that are 'clean' etc, but at the end of the day they are a pyramid scam and commonly used in moneylaundering, market-manipulation and insidertrading.

    Also art theft.

Basically you can sell an NFT of some artwork that you have found on Twitter, that was not created by you or anyone you know, and sell someone else an NFT of it, saying that the buyer now owns the art. Except you never owned the art, so obviously you can't just go around selling the NFT.

  • @Guertena said:

Well if they do I hope BHVR at least give every Steam player keys (with keys I mean the game + DLCs already bought) to Microsoft Store I guess, and find someway to transfer datas and everything, I don't even know if this game has cross-progression yet.

If (emphasis on if) Dbd gets removed from Steam anyone who bought it would keep the game and all DLC. The only major problem would be new DLC. As there is basically no way BHVR doesn't own your player data and / or hosts it on their own servers it should be possible to hook it up to an Epic account, if (again emphasis on if) the game gets removed from Steam and if they move it to the Epic store instead.

If it really was solely at the behest of the Hellraiser IP owners then honestly how can keeping Hellraiser in the game even be worth it at that point? I have doubts that bhvr didn't have any say in this and they were just doing what they had to as the possibility of getting kicked off steam would never make the money they're gonna earn from the NFT's and even the Hellraiser chapter worth it

The Steam thing is recent, it's likely they didn't know about it when they agreed to this NFT deal.

  • @Chilli_man2400 said:

Basically to make it short there was a rumor that BHVR was working with a shady company to sell the Pinhead DLC with a NFT currency. It’s basically a digital currency where you pay for it and you own the right. The problem is the processing power to download this digital code is very powerful and harmful to the environment. And BHVR pretty much confirmed they are working with NFT. Everyone is angry. Even McLean and the mods are angry

Another problem is that scams using / based on NFTs are common.

Quick example: I could sell an NFT of my post here. Then whoever bought this could claim that they own my post, because they own the NFT. However I don't actually own this forum post, so I can't sell you the right to claim that you own the forum post. Or even worse, I could sell an NFT of someone else's post, or even art! Of course I don't own this other post, or someone else's art, but I could still sell you an NFT of them.

Adding NFTs to video games kind of normalizes their existence in the eyes of the public, which is going to make it much easier for scams to happen. If someone walked up to you and wanted to sell you an NFT of some art but you never even heard of NFT then you most likely would ignore them. But what if you know about NFTs because they are in video games or connected to video games, such as Dead By Daylight? A big game like Dead By Daylight is doing an NFT collaboration, surely it can't be that bad! Suddenly it might seem like the seller is legit and you give them money for an NFT of stolen art.

NFTs are still new though, and not everyone knows about them, which is why it's important to fight back against them now.

  • You can see some Merged threads on page 2 of General Discussions (at the moment, they're likely gonna get pushed back soon).

    Example: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/287706/merged-re-the-nft-situation#latest

    why though

you would be happy to see steam take money away from over 300,000 players

20$ plus all cosmetics, rift passes, dlc, cells, and all the ranks and limited items earned

if they don't do something fast we steam players will lose all of are stuff

No one who owns Dbd would lose anything. Games are removed from Steam all the time, if you own them before they are removed you keep everything and can still download them whenever, including DLC. The only thing that actually gets removed is the option to purchase the game.

  • Nah, the mods are doing their job by merging the threads into the big thread so the discussion(s) can happen in one place instead of all over the forums.

    It's this thread: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/287700/i-m-genuinely-disgusted-at-bhvr-supporting-nfts

Either they've been told not to respond to these threads, likely because they think it'll be like pouring gasoline on the situation

Or they have nothing to say, because it's out of their hands. They can't say much apart from "We're sorry you feel this way" or something akin to that.

Maybe both but that's my guess.

There is also a very high chance they didn't know about it until very recently and are waiting for an official response from management that they can post. Threads are being merged into this one, so someone is reading the forums. I think it's pretty normal that no one has responded yet.

He left in August or so I believe? He was a programmer, so it's entirely possible he was left out of any conversations about the NFT deal, but the alternative explanation is that the entire NFT deal happened in the time between August and now, which would be ~2.5 months.

Either the entire deal was super rushed (seems unlikely to me to be honest) - or a lot of the people working at BHVR likely didn't know about this deal and are only finding out about it now or have found out rather recently.

From what I can tell and like that other comment said it seems like steam doesn’t want to be associated at all. I genuinely think people trying to use a loophole (if that’s what they’re actually doing) will probably get them banned even faster.

You can get DLC codes through an NFT partnership, AND the NFT company was provided the keys by the developers, so I agree this might actually get the game banned after all. I don't know how this whole key business works but most likely BHVR didn't have to pay for the keys they gave to the NFT company, which means technically Valve lost out on money that was then indirectly given to an NFT company.

This is certainly an interesting situation. The Steam NFT ban is very recent (I think from last week Friday or so?) but the Dbd NFT deal has been in the works for months (according to the official Dbd Twitter). They almost certainly haven't planned for this or known about the Steam NFT ban in advance but because of contractual obligations they had to go through with the NFT deal anyway.

Absolutely outstanding PR bhvr, you've outdone yourselves this time. You should do another tweet expressing the company's support for clubbing seals. Or maybe add Jeffrey Epstein as the next survivor.

"There has been talk about seal clubbing lately. We want to confirm that we are not personally clubbing seals. We are merely providing the seal clubbers with replicas of the Trickster's bat and the Doctor's stick weapon so they can more efficiently club the seals."

I doubt it. There's no NFTs inside the game.

The thing is that technically you could avoid the Steam NFT ban by having it run through a separate company. From the information that's available it doesn't sound like BHVR is profiting off the NFTs, so it's probably fine, but at the same time I could see Valve wanting to set a precedent.

Still though. I feel there could be a pretty big loss in players if they move to epic instead of steam.

Console players wouldn't be affected by this and I don't think Steam deletes games from accounts, even if the game itself leaves Steam. I have a friend who owns Guild Wars 1 on Steam, which was available there only very briefly. Still in the library, could still be downloaded (probably, I haven't asked him to check that).

So IF Dbd gets kicked off Steam the existing playerbase would remain the same, minus everyone who quit(s) because of NFTs. I don't think the NFT situation in Dbd violates the Steam policy because it's a separate company doing it, but then again this whole situation is pretty unprecedented as far as I can tell (in terms of video games + NFTs, not Dbd specifically) so maaaaaybe Valve will set a precedent here? To stop other companies from bypassing the Steam NFT policy by "outsourcing" the NFT stuff to a separate company.

  • I have accidently mistyped the code as "nftsux" and didn't get anything. But once I fixed it the code in the image worked.

So after this move, who at BHVR is going to pocket the money and jump ship?

    Let's see.

Wouldn't they be caught up in the backlash though, even if they leave now? If I was a developer and didn't want to be caught up in this NFT drama I think I would have quit a few months ago.

I just want to know if the voice lines are going to be locked behind this NFT.

    No: https://twitter.com/DeadByBHVR/status/1448649851755917328

    No exclusive in-game content.

I'm not really emotionally invested in the whole "think of the nature!" side of the argument, but I still have to admit that this level of corporate deceit is deserving of all the hate it's getting and more.

    Big agree.

For context, this is the Tweet that was posted on the official Dbd Twitter after a thread about this NFT deal was made (there is a reply by the official Dbd Twitter account to that Tweet, for full context open the Tweet in a new browser tab / window or something - it says there is no exclusive in-game content linked to the NFT stuff):

This does NOT say that they did not work together with the NFT company. There is no lie or ambiguity here. But it is absolutely worded in such a way to distract people. When that Tweet was made they knew that they had been working "with Boss Protocol over several months to adapt in-game models for use as NFTs" (Source and full context of this quote here: https://twitter.com/DeadByBHVR/status/1450160150753562624).

They never said that there is no deeper partnership with the NFT company but at the same time they neglected to mention that there actually is one which is what people were upset about in the first place.

Me saying there is a deeper partnership is based on the official Dbd Twitter account posting that they have been working the NFT company over several months - to me that does not sound like a minor / casual partnership. But please feel free to disagree with me and form your own opinion.

It's far less conditional than other exhaustion perks and has zero downsides. I think it's problematic when the possibility of Dead Hard working as intended is seen as more valuable than a guaranteed use of other exhaustion perks.

Suggestion: Make Dead Hard work only when healthy. Not when injured.

Now it has a downside, if you get hit and can't find a way to heal (either another Survivor, medkit or the upcoming Healing Circle perk) then you can't use it even after the Exhaustion timer has expired. If you can heal yourself during the 40 seconds of Exhaustion status effect then nothing really changes.

This could also create cool situations where you use it to dodge an attack and then the Killer needs to decide if they want to commit to you to injure you or leave you, but if they leave you then after the Exhaustion status expires you can Dead Hard again and basically repeat the situation that made the Killer abandon the chase in the first place.
