The only genuinely problematic and overtly silly change was locking his gateway to a 6-second window, because clearly an unlimited gateway duration wasn't gamebreaking (or even useful) and didn't need to be nerfed. For all the rest, we simply don't know how it's going to play out.
-
Wouldn't Blight just OD demo on pustula serum or something? I know people love to worship at the altar of brute force, and normally that's the only thing that matters, but... The crazy alchemist is still a crazy alchemist, and Demogorgon is still an organic creature with a relatively delicate biochemistry, and there's a lot of freaky stuff going on in the Entity's realm.

It's not really a big problem. There's other games in the future to play. This one just captivated me for a while. If the dev's want to put tournament style matchmaking into the game, then they better have a tournament ready game. It's about that simple. I got my own DBD killer coming out within 2 months, and I would doubt I would touch this game often again; SBMM or not. It's funny, this is the only game I have ever played in my entire life where playing to win is shamed. Must be a 2021 entitlement thing.
No, it's a "this is a casual and deliberately unbalanced game please stop treating it like an esport" thing. At its most competitive, this game takes zero real skill, so of course it doubly frustrates... Pretty much everyone, including tournament players that I've chatted with.
-
As a bunch of people have pointed out, this is literally what SBMM is supposed to get rid of.
-
Actually, SBMM automatically takes care of balance issues related to killer powers. If anything, it's a blessing to weaker killers.
And besides, it doesn't need to be perfect. It just needs to be better than the current SBMM, aka the pip system. Which is literally supposed to be a form of SBMM.
-
Nope, just petty and pathetic.
-
Anything is better than the current version of SBMM, aka the pip system.

There's virtually no difference between those two though.
If you try to win, you'll probably camp or tunnel if the match calls for it. Likewise, if you want to win as Survivor, you are probably gonna bring good perks.
There's very little difference between those two styles of play, really what you are describing is a difference in attitude.
The difference is absolutely enormous, especially since attitude and "style of play" are the same thing.

Trying to win is sweaty? Do you...not try to win?
DbD is a casual game that refuses to pick a side, there's no way SBMM will actually work in an asymmetrical game.
Actually, yes, treating trials like tournaments is sweaty. There's a difference between "trying to win" and "I WILL NEVER LOOOOSSSEEE!!!!!!" that a lot of sweaty players don't understand, and to be perfectly honest I'm sick of the latter, both being it and going against it.
"Trying to win" is bringing good perks and doing your best, but not really taking it overly seriously and accepting that large parts of DbD are out of your control.
"I WILL NEVER LOSE" is only playing the strongest killers or in a SWF with the most optimised build, strongest items and add-ons, hardcore tunneling, camping and slamming gens because you cannot possible fathom a world in which you aren't one of the best. (The irony here being that hardcore camping and tunnelling isn't that effective against the teams hardcore campers and tunnellers pretend they are going against).

It's not irrelevant to me. I have thousands of hours in the game. I play to win, every game. I have played against tournament teams in the past, including one that lost first round in the BoB tournament; and been able to compete with them. I'm not saying I'm amazing, I usually top out at high platinum or low diamond in games with intense ranking systems (Starcraft, Lol, etc).
But the only reason I have so many hours is because I can switch up my killer and builds often, I play the entire roster. I would rather drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow if that makes any sense. I have plenty of ultra sweaty games as it is, and it's balanced by having some normal games that actually last over 5 minutes. Ones where I can actually play a spooky killer scaring survivors instead of whatever high level DBD is supposed to be.
There's not enough balance, and too much RNG to really play this game tournament style. It's not an Esport game, not even close.
It sounds like you have the wrong mindset for DbD. The Great And Holy BHVR has said multiple times that they aren't going to balance around top players because this is a casual game and they want it to stay that way. So yeah, people that come into every trial with the strongest builds, on the strongest killer if that is applicable, and treat the game like Siege are going to be stuck with one another so the rest of the community doesn't have to deal with them.
Which is perfectly fine, because there's no skill in wiping the floor with casual players.
-

Which is basically just shifting the issue, not solving it.
DbD is a casual game, the Devs don't want to change that, so instead they're locking away all those people that pretend every trial is a tournament they have to win.
So it's not just shifting the problem. Sweaty players being forced to play against sweaty players instead of normal players is a damn fine solution, and we've had plenty of warning that this was coming in order to chill out.
-
Because it's sporting to give the one, single player a very slight amount of knowledge.
And there was a hack a while ago that let survivors see the killer in the lobby. It was broken, despite what a lot of people wanted to pretend.
Edit: Also, the *entire* point is to show the killer what items are being brought in to the trial so they can prepare.

I disagree. If lets say a killer is hated by 99% of the community and only 1% likes him or her, this killer should indeed be reworked or removed. The opinion of the majority weights more then the opinion of just a few, isnt it?
Just because a killer excists does not mean he is fine.
No killer is like that. Not a single one. Not even Twins.

I don't see hag and trappers doing that. The only killer I ever played against that went for mass slug was nurses.
The only time I see a Nurse slug everyone is when IF keeps going off, and this one time where she was very clearly doing what I described nearly every Hag seems to do.
And the Hag thing is a somewhat recent development, thanks seemingly to a certain content creator who is happy to prey on solo's.

Every game with sbmm has multiple modes, I really dont understand why dbd is keeping just one
DbD is a casual game and the Devs want to keep it that way. They actively refuse to balance around the best players and have stated so several times.
With that in mind, the point of SBMM isn't to make the game competitive, it's to prevent blatantly unfair trials from occurring, which is something that can kill any game. It's actually what every game uses in their casual modes to begin with, and the emblem system was supposed to be a form of SBMM. It just didn't work.
That is why they arent adding additional modes.
-
This game will never, ever be able to handle a casual mode. I've actually never played a casual mode that was genuinely casual, but dbd would be the absolute worst offender just because it's an inherently casual game with no chance of being balanced.
-
He's not fun, but he's not easy either. Not even remotely.
-
Plague with Ruin, Surge, Tinkerer and Dark Devotion.
Ruin has your back in the early game, Surge takes over later (and goes well with Dark Devotion), the stealth from Tinkerer and ToT is downright terrifying on Plague, and her natural instadowns go well with Surge, which also happens to go well with Ruin if you get lucky. And if that doesn't work out, it means the survivors are cleansing...
I also like Legion with Enduring, Nemesis, and usually Ruin and Lethal Pursuer.
Enduring is just amazing on Legion and goes brilliantly with Nemesis. For whatever reason, people play around a stunned Legion like absolute idiots (and you always chase injured people, so once should be enough). And the other two are just a nice slowdown.
-
Yep, but they won't do it.
Technically I should say "can't", because lisences are usually rather strict in that area, but even if they had permission there's no chance they'll actually do anything about that map. So no, they won't do anything.

seems contradictory to have oni and nurse on the top 3, but say mass slugging isn't "genuine" snowball.
If you're leaving people on the ground with no immediate chase handy to occupy you, it's not snowballing. It can't be, you've lost your momentum. And with Hag, that's kind of what she does. That's her whole thing. I've gone against a lot of Hag's that barely even hook people, they just down them, reset traps and leave, all while calling it "snowballing". They often have Knockout and definitely feel like they dodge SWF lobbies based on their behaviour (such tactics arent that useful in a normal trial). I've even seen a couple of Trapper's do it, but not nearly as much.
Hence me making a distinction.
-
Blame the developers. If the issues with DbD weren't so widespread and old, and their community management team wasn't so heavily muzzled and were actually allowed to talk to the community, then the complaints wouldn't be able to be taken seriously.
But the Devs made a bunch of empty promises and straight-up lies (they weren't lies at the time, but when you never talk about them again and hope everyone forgets, they become lies).

So now, you yourself are admitting that you are taking a non-issue and making an entire thread to complain about this non-issue even though there are actual things to discuss?
This doesn't make the case you think it does.
What are you talking about?
I'm pointing out is that they actually wasted time on this instead of fixing something that was causing actual problems. That's a pretty big issue whether you like it or not. It's an arbitrary change with no overt purpose that they wasted effort on, but they routinely ignore genuine problems with similar solutions.
So why this change? Just... Why? Demogorgon can still freely spam it's shred, after the rework. Twins can still freely camp despite all the changes. Both of them should, in theory, require similar levels of effort to change as Pinhead being able to hold his gateway open indefinitely. And yet they chose to change Pinheads gateway after deliberately ignoring those other two, supposedly unintentional aspects of two recently tweaked powers.
That's a problem. It's not a gameplay problem, it's a development problem.

They went out of their way to remove this... because it's stupid and nobody should be doing that with their power anyway because its counter productive.
You're LOOKING for something to complain about and it shows.
If I was looking for something to complain about I would be going on about how the lament configuration punishment is extremely flawed or the fact that his gateway chains don't even prevent W-holding.
The issue here is that they went out of their way to remove something that was utterly harmless.
-
@glitchboi said:
Yeahhh... I don't like it. I get that they don't want people to camp and tunnel, but his ability already sucked for camping, and campers would just play Bubba if they wanted to do so.
Hope that they revert this change, or at least increase the duration to like 30 seconds or something, 6 is too short.
Honestly, I don't even know what I would use the extra time for. It's just... Who is this for? Why put in the effort?
It's like someone finished a painting of a classical figure completely with tasteful fig leaf, then decided it wasn't modest enough and threw a bucket of paint over the leaf.
-
@CrowVortex said:
Does he still lose distance using his power in a chase while successfully hitting it? As in survivor's can break chains and gain distance over him while he catches up.
The Devs didn't mention anything about the chain-breaking duration, so I assume so.
-
@Rezblaze said:
Who gives a damn anyway.
Camping with a power isn't creative anyway. And six seconds doesn't remove camping.
I swear people find the stupidest non-issues to complain about.
The Devs went out of their way to add a limitation to a killers power that doesn't impact undesirable behaviour (camping), only creative uses of the power. That seems like an awful precident for them to set, since they actually wasted time to impliment it and yet haven't done so with other killers whose powers actually pose a serious problem, with the example I gave being The Twins and their ridiculous ability to actually facecamp people having never been addressed.
-
@dspaceman20 said:
What are you talking about?
When you send out his portal, you can now only maintain it for 6 seconds. I assume it's to stop people from camping, but it also won't actually do that so it's kind of just a random limitation on his power to prevent people from using it creatively.

Those are all fair. Camping gen rush and tunneling though isn’t bad.
No, it isn't fair to bully people. If you think it's okay to go out of your way to ruin other people's experiences with absolutely no in-game benefit or reason, you have a problem.

@GannTM said:
No one is pathetic for doing something you don’t like that isn’t breaking the rules in a video game.
Mass slugging/bleedouts, hardcore facecamping/kebabing from the start, lobby-dodging SWF's with Knockout, genuine bully squads and rank 20 smurf accounts want to remind you they exist. They all seem like petty, pathetic behaviour to me, and all of the above is well within the rules, but maybe that's just because I despise bullies.
-
I wonder how many of these killers were simply taking advantage of the extremely common and entitled "I can unhook in your face and you have to be nice and go after me" mentality.
-
Nurse, Oni and Plague.
Hag and Trapper are less about genuine snowballing and more about mass slugging, especially Hag. It's so ridiculously common to see a Hag end a trial with multiple people about to bleed out after everyone ended up slugged. That's not a snowball. Snowballs don't lose momentum.
-
@Crowman said:
You aren't losing because of SWF, you are losing to good players who happened to queue'd up together. Considering how ######### solo q can be, it's not surprising a lot of good players would rather play with other good players than deal with rng teammates.
Dodging every lobby just because you see at least 2 people queue'd up together is just going to cause you to have longer queue times, but you are also never going to improve if you are constantly trying to seek out "weaker" players.
More like "good players qued up together that actually trust one another". I feel like that last part is super important to add, I tear through teams of amazing loopers who were quick on gens but fell apart the moment something unexpected happened.

That is much quicker than I managed, and I've been playing since Plague.
-
I really have no idea. I play survivor with a controller on PC. It's better than M&K. I have the option. I don't see why console players shouldn't have the option to use M&K, especially since ranged killers exist and have done for many years and also Nurse.
-
Mmmkay. Imma keep using Flashbang and Iron Will. It's fun.
-
Hag was literally chained in a basement and slowly eaten alive by cannibals while surrounded by the remains of their other victims. If there is any killer whose tragic past I could undo, it would be hers.
-
Yes. The gap between key oard and controller is (specifically in DbD) much smaller than most people think. Billy is essentially unchanged, Nurse is more punishing but still possible, and the only difference between M&K Blight and Controller Blight is an inability to be a dirty exploiter.
Wait, no, that's not true, z flicking is absolutely still a thing. And it's still hard to believ just how much some people want every single little advantage in a game where both RPD and Azarovs exist.
Edit: Also, ranged killers get serious hurt by controller. The only reason I don't quite put Nurse at their level is because she launches herself, giving her an enormous and controllable attack box.

@ShadowsVale said:
Let's do some math.....
47 hours x 60 minutes per hour = 2,820 minutes.
Let's say each game lasted about 20 minutes. (Not including lobby wait time)
So 2,820 minutes divided by 20 minutes per game = 141 games.
Let's also assume she got a 4k, every game.
141 games times 4 people per game = 564.
That's just over half of the 1000 she needed for the achievement.
Unless she is some super god level Nurse, who gets super quick lobby times, and every game is 10 minutes or less, I'd say they are cheating in some way.
Just my opinion.
20 minutes is unrealistic even if you included wait times. A good Nurse can (and if they want to, will) end trials in 5 minutes, and where I live I immediately get killer trials the moment I hit the ready button. So if we round that up to 8 minutes to take into account menu time and increase in wait time at low ranks, the number of potential trials comes out at 353, or 1,412 kills at 100% 4k's. That's more than enough for a scummy Nurse main's baby-bullying smurf account.
Which doesn't explain away the other bits.

If all fountains are Corrupted, they will not getting reset. Thats all the buff she need.
For me, if Plague refuse to consume Corrupt fountain, with all that time to build up all Survivors infected and cleanse 5 times. She's deserve to have all Survivors being exposed. She's still an M1 killer at that time anyway.
Currently, you either have Survivors dont cleanse at all, or they cleanse too fast that you dont realize it and all fountains reset. Her power is controlled by Survivors too much.
Her fountains need to reset. Managing infected survivors is a large part of her skill ceiling, and something people need to learn. Infecting everyone all the time is a bad idea and it should be punished.
And the reason for that is becuase her fountain reset encourages people to cleanse. A good Plague capitalises on that via proper fountain management. A bad Plague gets reset and feeds into the cycle of hopeful mass-cleansing.
Not to mention the fact that it's occasionally extremely beneficial to get your power mid-chase, especially if you managed your fountains correctly, forcing them to cleanse close to you, a tactic that it especially useful against cocky SWF teams.

Streamers provide evidence, both intentionally and accidentally. Their opinions have little sway, only their trials.
-
It's too strong for gen defence when the killer has mobility or inbuilt instadowns and a perk like Ruin or Surge. The stealth duration needs buffed and the trigger needs moved back up so that it's more of a stealth perk than a gen defence perk.
-
There's no contest. I'm a survivor main, so I'll probably be playing survivor, and I have notoriously terrible luck on Haddonfield so the killer actually has a decent chance to win.
Seriously, I'm the kind of girl who finds deadzones and glitches and House of Pain with no windows or pallets. Me on Haddonfield is atrocious.
-
Kindred, Object of Obsession, Bond, Spine Chill, Better Together, Detectives Hunch, Open Handed... I always have an info perk or 4. Kindred is probably my most-used, but it's far from the only one I use.

I've P3'd a grand total of one character just to prove that it was a waste of time. And it was. They should just give better rewards just for prestiging (cosmetics, not the gameplay or bloodweb rewards that a lot of people suggest, that's unfair on both newer players and those of us who didn't waste our own time).
And sure, once they've taken care of an actual incentive to pr stige that isn't just an oft-terrible retexture of the base outfit (maybe they could add it so that you can bloody up any of the common and uncommon skins), then they should absolutely think about adding a reward for prestiging a certain number of characters.
-
I love his animations. I'm gonna get him just for them.
