So obviously no naming but I see the majority of dbd content creators making fun wacky builds. There might be the odd popular meta build video but the majority of popular videos are things like ninja doc, franklins pinhead and usain bubba. These are definitely not competitive builds. Many content creators insist dbd is at its best when its a casual experience calling out complaints about swf as people wanting to have fun with there friends. The is a loud minority who want's dbd to have some kind of competitive streak but they are not the majority. It's important to distinguish improving does not mean competitive. Wanting a more varied dbd is not inherently competitive. Competitive is optimized builds with being berated for taking weird builds in. I have seen competitive communities lol, mtg sure the genre is different but if you think dbd has a competitive community you have yet to see what a competitive community actually looks like. I can't count a single reputable person who actually believes rank matters in dbd.

They're not just a loud minority, they're an extremely prevalent one of which many people you see here on the forums belongs to despite you not even realising it because of how reasonable they appear to be.

The content creators aren't the community. The community are the ones you play against. And where I'm from, my average trial length is 4 minutes and I often get told to play Nurse or Spirit.

  • Not even remotely. The Devs themselves say it isn't. They kind of have the last word, and very deliberately make RNG an absolutely enormous factor in this game, which removes any real element of fairness and therefore competition.

And the argument that going against people makes it inherently competitive that I keep getting thrown in my face is extremely flawed in that it means that literally nothing humans ever do in existence is ever casual in any possible way, shape or form because no matter what there will always be a way of comparing our capabilities and results with others no matter what it possibly is. Let's all have a Rock, Paper, Scissors competition to decide who goes into the Siege Casual Mode deathsquad.

Thats a stupid argument. If we need to "give it time to settle" isn't it natural that everyones pissed off right now because the system is a complete cluster-######### of sweat? People SHOULD be complaining right now and be allowed to vent their frustrations. The system is not fun right now, and even if it does get fun eventually people should be allowed to voice their dissatisfaction with how it is right now. Just because it can get better doesn't mean it isn't miserable right now.

It's a perfectly valid point. Anyone expecting all their problems to be solved with a snap of the Devs fingers had highly unrealistic expectations and needs to have a good, long look at what precisely they are complaining about instead of making yet another post about MMR. In this case, it's that the system needs to settle because there isn't a world in which it starts out with 100% accuracy due to the nature of DbD a week ago.

It's exactly like those people that ######### and moan about new content being weak on the same day that it's released.

Hunt showdown recently added the ability to see your mmr. You can also hide it too. Its for the most part very helpful to let someone know how there doing and if you aren't competitive you can hide it so its not in your face. Its started off hidden while the dev team was adjusting it so here's hoping behavior follows suit. Even with mmr people in hunt play casually messing around with janky builds, because the game is built well. If the baseline mechanics of killer is bad meta builds will be used to correct this. Dbd has no comeback mechanics no means to turn a game for either side. That is dbd's core issue that and awful map design.

DbD is a very different game with a very different community. It would never work. People spent years trying to force other players to be competitive, gatekeeping discussions and outright attacking anyone who wasn't rank 1 whilst at the same time gleefully steamrolling weaker opponents and pretending they were just good.

  • Every casual game or casual mode as an MMR system, they're almost always hidden, and you're not supposed to care because it's entire purpose is to get you into more balanced trials, not to measure dicks.

  • Welcom to the modern age, where convenience has a price and you don't own anything.

  • To do stuff and have fun. It's not like the game is or will ever be fair and balanced, so screw competitiveness.

  • Old sabo was time consuming and broken when done with a SWF.

  • Very rarely. I don't consider myself "outplayed" by the W key or killers with no counterplay. Which sucks, because I'm not even that good at the game. It's just how it's played in my region.

  • Also, this is assuming I actually drop pallets, which I rarely do. Would definitely be longer if I dragged along second chances.

Is it? Well I guess that's good. I saw that one video of a survivor getting chased by a Pig for an entire 20 minutes, so I just assumed 2 minutes was crap.

That doesn't mean the surivor was good, it means the pig was terrible and getting bullied. Generally speaking, a chase lasts less than a minute.

  • Except that survivors also hold W against every other killer the game as well, so as much as they suck to go against they don't actually suck for most people and they're just bitching about something that doesn't actually affect them but that they want to pretend does.

If the W problem is going to be fixed, it's going to have to start at the core of the issue: Gen-to-chase ratio. And make no mistake, this is a W problem far more than an antiloop problem, as evidenced by the fact that these killers aren't considered that strong.

  • Are you seriously trying to claim that there's a conspiracy to trick players into thinking that they replaced the old sbmm system with a new, hidden one but instead didn't do anything?

Besides the stealth and main building dead dawg is pretty close to that

No, actually, and you already mentioned half of why. Dead Dawg has several strong resources, and insane stealth potential to make up for the weak ones.

First of all, the saloon itself. Enough said, really.

Then there's the Shack, which is almost as strong as a regular shack. No matter what, it's still a strong window joined to a god pallet chained with a strong pallet.

Then there's the building son the opposite street, which spawn some nasty configurations and are almost always solid, if not downright cruel, kind of like the pier in Grim Pantry on steroids but with breakable walls that eventually render it simply "decent".

Then there's at least two very strong pallets (one in front of shack, one in front of the saloon) and multiple potential raised generator spawns, as well as a few strong windows that can spawn.

So no, Dead Dawg is far from resourceless. RNG dependant, perhaps, but not resourceless. And if you were to delete the main building and shrubbery then sure, it would be much weaker. But you may as well talking about deleting the houses from Haddonfield, or in a more accurate comparison, the maze tiles from Coal Tower.

Yes. I just wrote an essay on Dead Dawg. Please don't think this was aimed at you, I just wanted to blurt out my thoughts on a map that I enjoy getting as a survivor and am sick of pretending otherwise for the sake of not being attacked.

Edit: Perhaps it's because people like to burn resources instead of playing mindgames around them that they hate Dead Dawg?

  • Both Swamp maps have two massive advantages that people often overlook: They few tiles that are there are absolutely ridiculous and they can spawn Swamp Logs, and the entire map is covered with reeds.

Couple that with the boat and the pier, both of which you can keep a killer at for ages, and it's just a bad time to be a killer. But, it's also not that fun for a lot of survivors because the map has relatively few resources and the pier itself is more a haven for chaos-fuelled maniacs than people that want to practice looping. And it remains one of my all-time favourite structures.

  • How is that different to DbD a month ago?

Yes but it is not always convenient

If chain hunt is too oppressive then maybe make the one from the box with a limited duration like 10 seconds or that speeds up the hunt, or just remove it from the box and keep the "static blast effect", this way he would be a doctor with teleport, and doctor is not so oppressive

It is never inconvenient to activate a Chain Hunt.

  • No. That's why I'm the chill martyr and not the sweaty clicky.

  • Much faster and more versatile in-chase speed, mixed with faster no-chance downs (Wraith has to hit-and-run to take away counterplay, which isn't that effective without a certain build. Spirit doesn't, and cannot be countered in-chase (unless she doesn't know what she is doing, is deliberately merciful, or you happen to have an overabundance of extremely safe pallets)).

  • I spent over a year being unable to play to survivor due to ques that averaged 20 minutes and occasionally exceeded 40. 5+ is now the norm and I am in heaven.

  • Pinhead is similar to numerous other killers, and in a good way. He has the passive delay of Doctor, Legion and Pig, the mechanics of Nurse and Deathslinger, the sweet, sweet magical animations of Nurse, and the chase potential of Clown (who has much higher chase potential than people give him credit for).

  • The Devs don't care about balance or fun. Maps don't get disabled for being genuinely painful, they only get disabled for game-breaking bugs. If a map is disabled, it's never for balance reasons.

I still really want a small map with almost no resources or stealth potential so that everyone can get a taste of the ultimate, unquestionable out-mapping.

  • Firstly, stop thinking that every other MMR system is visible. It isn't. Because every single multiplayer game uses some form of SBMM, it's an industry standard.

Second, it's hidden for the same reason that every other casual rating system is hidden: to stop sweatlords from taking over. The point of the system isn't dick measuring, it's putting sweaty against sweaty, noob against noob, casual against casual, etc.

Edit: Seriously, if you want an example of why it's hidden, look at all the people that refused to listen to anyone who wasn't rank 1.

  • Because Surge is completely passive.

Pop is really bad on m1 killers, you have to go out if your way to use it and you have no way of making up for lost time. The moment an even slightly sweaty team comes along, your ability to kick gens flies out the window.

Surge lends itself better to Legions far more aggressive playstyle, and takes advantage of survivors spreading out because it means gens have time to regress. And, as I said, it is COMPLETELY passive. You just hit people and gens explode - no setup, to fuss. Down them, hook them, on to the next chase without wasting a further 15 seconds of your own time.

    With Blackjack! And Hookers!!!

In fact, forget about the DbD!

  • Dying Light's slowdown only really affects 2 people at once, because you have to ignore the obsession (who not only deactivates the perk when they die, who is not only unaffected by the slowdown, but actually BUFFED by the perk). It takes a while to build a decent level of stacks. And it's mostly just a good addition to Thanatapbobia.

Personally, I only like it on Legion, because the buff to healing plays into your hands.

  • No, which is terrible and should be changed. Twins are a perfect example of why - that killer is so weak and has such harsh counterplay, but most people that think they know what they are doing don't jump in a locker or travel in pairs to shut down any chance to snowball.

Clearly a case of a lack of practice, similar to people not jumping in a locker against Oni when they're going to go down. They shouldn't be treated the same as someone who can loop an m1 killer for days.

Well I have a couple problems with this.

    1. he’s playing wraith he’s not good at top tier play he’s going to lose
    2. hex ruin is not even a good perk on wraith cause he has no pressure like blight nurse and spirit.
    3. tinkerer is kinda not good cause why would you want invisibility when you have it forever
    4. it’s so obvious at high mmr it’s impossible to win unless your a great Nurse spirit blight or Oni.

Wraith is considerably better than Oni and Tinkerer's Undetectable status is a non-factor whenever talking about that perk and Ruin. Seriously, it means absolutely nothing and doesn't actually contribute anything.

Wraith doesn't chase and you cannot defend against him, which is why he's so hated (he's only visible for about 3 seconds before uncloaking and lunging you due to his speed). Oni gets locked out of his power. Ruin/Tinkerer on a killer as fast as Wraith is broken.

Not bothered by what happens in the video, I just don't like it when people undersell that harshly.

  • GOG is a fantastic single-player marketplace (because as all PC gamers should know, DRM services being discontinued can render a game unplayable). However, that's also why it's a terrible multiplayer marketplace, because it makes it that much easier to hack.

  • No, it most certainly isn't. He suffers from the Deathslinger issue of being able to watch your knives pass through the limbs of survivors be aus le the hitbox is so small it actually missed theirs, which is essentially a central pill.

  • I've played quite a lot of Trickster and never have I been able to throw through solid matter. Through small gaps in walls, yes, but not through the walls themselves. Perhaps it is a connection issue?

Personally I need it I absolutely hate the feeling of not seeing my ranking

It sounds like you might be part of the reason it's hidden.

  • We just transitioned from a different form of SBMM, the Rank system (spoiler - it sucked and didn't do it's job). DbD has never had random matchmaking, no game has truly random matchmaking, you've just been steamrolling your opponents without realising it and are now where you should be because it wasn't fair on your opponents.

If you don't want to deal with it, chill the ######### out and let them win. It's a casual, RNG based game, it doesn't matter if you win or lose.

  • Grades mean nothing, it's just a measure of how much you've played.

  • Yet another thread asking the exact same thing that has already been asked and answered multiple times before?

Every casual game has hidden sbmm to prevent massively unfair lobbies, something they don't tell you in order to not get this kind of masisve misunderstanding. The point of the system is to get rid of all the people that want it to be shown and force them into their own hell, instead of leaving them to bully everyone else.

Mandy also said that even tho they collected data, your starting MMR could be missplaced/missmatched and be too high or low

    Sooooo yeah

Every system needs to settle once it's activated, something that isn't even worth mentioning.

    Sooooo yeah.

  • I'm just gonna say two things: First, we know for a fact that they don't just take into account kills and escapes, they said it themselves. Which means you are clearly wrong, be ause you have eliminated everything else. Second, the point of the system isn't to be perfect, but to get sweaty players and new players in their own ecosystems.

  • How many buffs does that map need? It already had 16+ safe pallets before the realm beyond hit it, and now it's got bugged god pallets?

  • Because survivors can and have abused camping penalty systems in the past.

I hate people using this excuse. We KNOW thats not the case, everybody KNOWS your MMR doesn't begin at 0. if its been gathering data then why are so many peoples games completely broken? Shouldn't that gathered data be going to proper matchmaking like they said it would? The matchmaking is awful and needed more time in the oven.

Actually, it seems that very few people's games are actually broken, if any at all.

And the OP literally stated they they thought their MMR was at 0 in the very first sentence of this post. So there's also that.

  • @MarcoPoloYolo said:

My stance has never been "Spirit has an excellent amount of counterplay" myself as much as "the game is filled with BS mechanics that don't have counterplay, so why do we care about Spirit in particular?"

Probably because her BS is the easiest and by far the most reliable, and also has the added flavour of being miserable to go against no matter what due to her power literally being taking away any info from survivors. Sure, there's a lot of BS mechanics, but only one killer can be the BS Queen

  • I don't know if anyone else gets this, but sometimes a skillcheck will pop up just slightly after I let go of the generator and I'm finishing up the animation.

  • @reeves7 said:

Honestly this is one of the worst companies ive ever seen. They don’t respect their customers at all. If they had the cyberpunk treatment in ps stores etc they wouldn’t do this.

The cyberpunk treatment is reserved for AAA studios (that aren't Ubisoft, ActBliz, or EA), becuase they make the best punching bags due to high-profile games and limited legal funds. DbD will never get that particular shot in the arm.

  • Did you somehow miss the Resident Evil chapter?

  • @glitchboi said:

Agreed, he genuinely seems like a decent killer so far (maybe better than decent), and it feels like he'll be scary to go against with the right build. People are quick to assume things, have we not learned from Blight and Twins yet?

I swear, people just want killers as easy as Freddy, and as strong as Nurse.

I mean, are we talking about Twins, the killer hard-cucked by basic teamwork and using lockers? Or Twins, the killer so rare that most people dont understand their genuinely easy counterplay and so make look really good?

Blight I get. Slinger I get. Oni I get (even with his limited turning). Demogorgon I get. Every other killer I get. But Twins? That one I will never understand.

That's not quite true. They said they resetted the data on the previous test before the one this month.

Ah, that's even better!! I actually missed that, but for anyone reading this that doesn't know what that means, it's essentially both getting rid of the invalid data from when MMR couldn't function correctly, and also not punishing people that just play waaaayyyyy too much dbd

  • Your MMR isn't 0. The system has been gathering data since killers were locked into lobbies.

  • Maybe, but they also kind of need to. The closer 2 actors get, the less reliable the predictive AI is and the more data the server needs

1 … 3 4 5 6 7 … 165
