As they quite probably still code with program like blueprint, no.
I know the devs say they switch to plain text coding by now, but given some bugs this smells more of visual coding.
To explain: blueprint is a visual coding software that allows one to program via connecting boxes of commands. This can be great, but the more complex a game gets, the more of a messy ball of yarn it becomes. And if they are using both now, visual and plaintext coding... it might be even more of a gallimaufry, as importing and exporting between programs might mess things up even more. Especially when you forget to change a related box when you make changes such as what checks for hitbox collision (for hits and interacting with things), what graphic to use, etc.
So, yeah. It's the spaghetti code.
This right here.
Even if it's not blueprints, it's something equally as shaky. Maybe even something as simple as amateur mistakes that got baked in by accident early in development, that's something we're all guilty of to some extent. Sometimes, a crappy line of code is impossible to change without breaking the system because so much got accidentally dumped on it and you genuinely don't even know why and therefore how to fix it.
But if you have as many skilled employees as BHVR does, that excuse rings more than a little hollow.

I'm a Plague main, and I play a lot of Legion. I used to play a lot of Hag, but I quit because I realised she was way too easy. I played a lot of Slinger back when the W key got pupular, dropped him for Blight, then dropped Blight when they messed with his bumping earlier this year and went back to Plague. I also play a lot of Demogorgon.
-
Okay. Now try cleansing all 5 totems without the team dying, agaisnt a killer that can at least facecamp.
-
I dunno, it makes no sense. Especially Plague losing her power - she works ten times harder than Oni. Surely is should be the other way around? Or just not even be a thing at all?

More BP for survivor events in general.
Yuuuuuppp. Survivors need to be encouraged to do stuff with sweet, sweet points. The game would probably balance itself out if sitting in gens was actually productive.
Which sounds like I'm being sarcastic, but seriously it's so annoying that you can do all the gens and get the least amount of points in a game where that's the only real objective.
-
Because it's purpose isn't dick measuring.

Basekit ds will be too op, Js,
I have no idea if that's sarcasm or not, but suffice it to say that it's almost impossible to get DS'd without tunneling.

It makes no difference what BHVR says or does, because the people who keep making those threads will just use it as "proof" that they're right.
Just like I said in a thread that was deleted:
- If it gets deleted, it's because the conspiracy is true and "they" (every conspiracy theory has a faceless "they") are trying to hide it.
- If it gets ignored (or, more likely, not noticed), it's true because otherwise "they" would deny it. This is a very common way to try to get a reaction of of "them", after which, if successful, the people move on to the above point.
- If "they" deny it, "they" are obviously lying and the conspiracy is true.
There's no winning here, because everything just feeds into the conspiracy. What would be the point in BHVR lifting a finger (beyond enforcing the rules)?
Because it's not a conspiracy. Some of us have genuine experience in coding, marketing or general insider knowledge and still call out BHVR on their BS.
Their lack of transparency has fostered severe distrust and negatively impacts their microtransactional sales. The happier the community, the more cash they pump in. Basic business sense, right? Only BHVR seems content to do as little work as possible and therefore invest less money into DbD while pushing cosmetics and visual upgrades (realm beyond) over gameplay (also realm beyond, hello insane gameplay choices) and stability (everyone whose not a PC player with a good rig). They make mistake after mistake, refuse to utilise the resource that is the Fog Whisperer program, and ignore their most dedicated audience, I suspect as another business choice related to them making more money off of chapter sales from the influx of new players in their current ecosystem.
But, instead of doing the smart thing and having their PR team handle the community and feed us all sweet platitudes, they just ignore us. Instead of implimenting basic fixes that anyone with any experience programming games will tell you takes less than an hour, let alone a day, they go out of their way to not rock the boat even if those fixes are console optimisation. And yes, there are a lot of settings that could be disabled on console to make the platform run a lot smoother with minimal visual impact.
There's no conspiracy. There's just a lack of good PR to drown out the experienced community members who can actually call out BS or provide details that allow people to read between the lines, often in a positive manner. Instead, everyone feels ignored and lied to, as well as outright silenced. Because, well, they are.

I'd be perfectly content if they came out and said they scrapped these ideas (such as the Early Game Collapse, or Shirtless Myers), but the fact we get left in the dark about it and we just 'forget' about it is what makes me pissed off.
That is the difference between "scrapped ideas" and "outright lying to people to temporarily boost revenue". If you pretend it never happened, it's clearly the latter because you didn't take the corrisponding drop in revenue.

Oni is a killer with a strange skill curve. I played him for quite a bit to celebrate his Minotaur skin, and felt like I was using a crutch killer to beat on noobs. Then I took a break and went back and realised that I was actually just good at Oni and hadn't noticed because of how gentle his skill curve is but now I have lost all skill.
-
I had exactly 300,000 BP at one point. I did spend a bit to get there, but the fact that my H/T/O numbers were all 0 was pretty astounding.
-
That's how RNG works, randomness isn't even. And it is the reason other games outright lie about their RNG (for example, a gun having an X chance for an effect to go off will actually have an X+20% chance when calculating the effect).
Basically, humans suffer both from confirmation bias and a desire for things to be spread evenly. In reality, that's not how things work. There is a genuine possibility that that is how the game functions for you, but there's also people that have the precise opposite experience.
-
They are quite survivor-sided, so it's understandable. However, people don't like that being survivor-sided is more than just being filled with god pallets, so they regularly get trashed despite Dead Dawg having an insane building, several good ones, multiple raised gens, and more stealth than anything but Swamp, and Midwich is the map of W and insane traversal time.
-
Same as Demogorgon would still be as strong without Portals, or Nemesis without Zombies. Their primary power is shutting down loops, and in the case of PH you can and will have trials where no-one ever gets tormented and you still win rather easily.
-
Literally none of them. Either we're playing by the Entity's rules, in which case the killers are all superhuman, or we're playing by realistic rules, in which case I don't know enough about mechanical engineering to fix five generators before a ######### meathook goes through my ######### shoulder and cripples me for life.
-
Yes, but it's not perfect and you won't find anyone here but haters because no-one uses gaming forums except hardcore players.
It does it's job: Sweaty players are out of the general pop and in their own ecosystem whether they like it or not. It has its flaws: it's clearly too easy for killers to rise up and get the wrong trials, for one.
-
The worst killers on controllers are the ranged ones, but there's not much to be done there and I've met people that absolutely prove controllers are less of a true limitation and more of a difficulty hike. Especially console Huntresses. They scare me. It's either going to be constant missing, or I have a glowing bullseye on my back, and at the dead centre is a powerful magnet. Also Deathslingers, but I guess that's just FPS players that are used to controllers.
-
No. I don't want to go back to 4-minute trials, endless sweatiness, massive W plays, extreme toxicity and everything that everyone else complains they suddenly experience at high MMR that I was forced to live through for over a year.
It's time for everyone else to suffer. I did my time, now it's everyone else's turn to die inside while I relax in the heavenly glow of "normal" trials. I can take my time and have some fun, instead of trying to and losing constantly without being able to escape that ######### hellscape outside of brief moments of reprieve as the system reset me down to rank 8 by mistake.
######### pre-mmr AU evenings and ######### every having to deal with that again.
Edit: And stop pretending that MMR is a measure of skill. It's not, or it wouldn't be hidden.
-
My thoughts are that Ice Nine Kills recently released an American Psycho song that got me so pumped for the concept that I'd be perfectly elated with an original character vwith similar concept.
The problem is, a big part of the story is how the main character is losing his grip on reality and it's unclear what actually happened. I think at one point in the book his tapeworm starts narrating or something insane like that. Amazing concept, doesn't lend itself well to DbD format though.

Fair point but that was more so a net buff to stealth killlers and not a specific change to Myers. He still needs much more simple changes like stalk gain based on distance being removed
He needs... Honestly, I have no idea any more. I just want them to buff his T1 to 110 speed with a normal lunge so we can at least have fun with perma-t1 builds. That's sounds nice.

Myers hasn’t been buffed in 4 years and it took 4 years for trapper to be able to reset his traps
Myers was last buffed in 2019, with the addition of the Undetectable status.

Hopefully they start with removing hardcore camping, tunneling and slugging. Knockout getting a rework and Blindness not applying to slugs seems like a good start, followed by basekit DS and some early-game warmup or something of the sort. The system itself takes care of genrushing, so that's fantastic.
Then they can move on to perk changes, as as I like to dream of it, "who gives a #########, we're a casual game so let's go hog wild and change a bunch every week".
Then we can come to the add-ons and killers and such. With the new MMR the killers themselves should be fine, but there aplenty of little things that need changed. Spirit getting her breathing bug back and basekit, Legion having a second knocked off their stun, that sort of thing.
And finally... There is no finally, it's a live-service game.
Edit: HOLDING W!!! I almost forgot, they can nerf the crap out of the W key! I haven't gone against that since MMR was switched on, but I imagine it's still a huge problem.
-
It was built for a different game. DbD may not change quickly, but it has changed drastically.

@MadLordJack If person is not stupid, aura reading is more than enough to coordinate. Not everyone is smart, I agree with that, but you can't balance around people who don't use tools already given to them.
@Dhurl421 And that's why killers camp, because it works.
Stupidity has little to do with it. The best players in the world aren't worth a damn if they have competing ideas.
Not to mention the fact that not everyone runs a single perk. Kindred isn't basekit and you can't share the information unless you're the one hooked, so the argument that it solves everything is worthless even pretending that your average team is a bunch of genuine, skilless genrushers that actually give a crap about escaping and don't just suicide at the killer to get into the next trial a bit faster, which is something most experienced players do because they all know how hollow a victory that is.

These hackers can bypass the bans by purchasing new accounts for literally less than a dollar and post game reports are useless because for hacking bans they ask players to send video proof to their support ticket. Insane.
They are also never instantly banned, as devs wait to collect a certain number of accounts to ban in ban waves. So hackers are free to play for a week or 2
Or six months, or a year, in the case of the ones I've reported after jumping through all the hoops and catching them flying around on video. I suspect there's software out there that's been allowing them to ignore bans.
-
For us? No, even reporting them is a waste of time. It might make you feel better, but at the end of the day they keep on hacking and don't get banned.
The devs, on the other hand, could fork over a bit more cash for a better anti-cheat software. They're never perfect, but the better the software, the harder it is to cheat.

@MadLordJack All it takes is Kindred.
@ElusivePukka Genrush is literally focusing on gens and nothing else, letting teammates die ect. Which is a good thing when killer just facecamps. Know your terms, buddy.
If that were true, I would be an immortal goddess of Dead by Daylight, sprinkling escapes on all of my lucky teammates.
And so would they be to me, because I see Kindred used quite commonly. Funnily enough, teamwork and co-ordination require more than information. Namely, communication.
-
Most skills translate to other killers. Pig, especially, is one of the most basic killers in the game with little to learn.
-
Die because it takes a co-ordinated team to finish the gens in time to punish it.

It is, and it is extremely easy to get away with.
Edit: Okay, maybe "extremely" is an exaggeration, but it isn't as hard as some hackers make it seem in order to inflate their egos.

"all blinks are impossible to react to"
Then you're playing drunk.
Uh-huh. Because it's perfectly within the capacity of the human body to react to something hurtling itself towards you at about 8m/s.
-
That is how you counter a crap Spirit that doesn't know how to play. Any decent Spirit will just quick-burst 50/50 you in loops.
-
@Impose said:
Fast second blinks swings are almost impossible to react to, its a good way to bait out dead hards or get them exhausted on the ground. But no, there is no bug I am aware of that lets you hit before blink is finished.
All Blinks are impossible to react to, that's kinda why she's used in comp DbD. Survivor shave to commit to a predictive action while she's charging one up, and she reacts to what she see's if the Nurse is any good.
And yes, Nurse often hits you while either charging or even partway through blinking, it's from latency. It may not look it on the Nurse's end but it happens a lot for survivors.
-
Until Blindness stops affecting slugging, Third Seal can remain obscure.
-
@GannTM said:
She has the lowest kill rate because she super buggy and is hard to learn and master. A master Nurse will absolutely wipe the floor.
Or just any Nurse that can hit more than half of their blinks.

If you're maining a ranged killer on console, that's just you doing it to yourself.
-
I think that would end up having the same problem as old Undying.
Edit: As in, forcing people to do far more than reasonably necessary in order to progress the game.
-
I'm doing fine. Most of the poor functionality seems to be coming from players that were winning most of their trials pre-mmr, so far as I can tell.

WHO, WHERE said Blight was going to be weak on release lol. Blight on first iteration was "wow this is gonna be good. high mobility killer with some pretty good lethality and an actual good new perk."
I don't know a single person who didn't think Blight was going to be at minimum a "good" killer
Nearly everyone on the forums and half the people in every stream chat I was in, for starters. Closely followed by everyone I went against as a newly formed Blight main, and quite a few of DbD's most prominent streamers, most noticeably Otzdarva (who kept insisting that Blight was either C-tier or B-tier, I don't quite remember which). The main complaints tended to revolve around his collision, his height, and most of all people's inability to properly utilise his Lethal Rush and therefore would easily get dodged.
The amount of times I was called a complete moron for telling everyone to predict instead of react, despite me also being one of the few actually turning up in all the anti-Blight rants telling everyone that he was actually bloody brilliant and acting as a lightning rod for the haters, was laughable. It took a few weeks before everyone stopped pretending Blight was a bad or mediocre killer. And quite a bit longer than that for some.
-
I imagine Boons, if they are even implimented (don't forget, the Devs have outright lied to us about upcoming mechanics multiple times before) will be little more than Hex totems the survivors cleanse for a buff.
Edit: Yes, I am aware that the Devs have a little explaination of their idea - I do not for a second believe that anything that complex will be implimented.
-
Not really they don't, and even if they did then surely it would be better than encouraging true facecamping? There's nothing wrong with a mild proxy camp IMO, so long as there's chance to get the campee off the hook and away to safety. Sure, it's not the most fun, but compromises must be made.
-
@Barbarossa2020 said:
Most games that require aim are better on pc.
Fortunately, DbD isn't really one of them, with the exceptions of the ranged killers and Nurse.
-
1) BBQ isn't that good, any killer running it isn't being that sweaty.
2) Don't bring meta perks.*
Edit: *sorry, I meant don't bring bets builds if you want to rank down. Much of the survivor meta is rather crutchy, even more so than the generic killer meta, and not using seocnd chance perks will stop you form becoming boosted like it did me.
-
It's actually beneficial to the killer pre-T3, because of the masisve boost to mutation that infection gives you. Afterwards it's just a detriment and I wish his T3 attack would bypass infection entirely.
-
Yeah, he's really strong now. It's just sad to see so few Wraiths taking advantage of his lunge and I stead relying on hit-and-run tactics.
-
That is one of my go-to builds. I use literally whatever as perk 4 - and Exhaustion perk would probably be best, but I like Flashbang.
It's really nice to see everything that's happening around you.
-
As an avid Demo player, I have no clue how anyone can think it's fun to go against a killer that shuts down everything and constantly spams his power a la Deathslinger, but I guess most Demo players don't know he can do that...
-
But they should have a proper dress-up section in the store so that people can see what goes with what.
