Yeah they are. "Tunnelling" is getting tunnel vision on a survivor. "Genrushing" is when a team attempts to do the gens in under 3 minutes, leaving people to hang and refusing to heal.
Don't get mad just because people call out BS. Sure, they're overused terms but the core concepts are quite real.
-
I don't really infect anything except regressing gens. It's just not that useful. Personally I just rely on my ability to snowball a trial so hard the survivors are forced to cleanse in order to have the slightest chance, usually by getting territorial around a couple of well-placed fountains and gens. That way, when they inevitably mass-cleanse for the rest of the trial, I can keep at least one pool free so they don't reset unless I want them to.
Personally, I like Ruin/Surge/IF on her, with the Insenced Ointment add-on. Lethal Pursuer seems like a good 4th perk. Most "injured" perks don't seem that useful except against mediocre opponents, especially since the true meta is to instantly cleanse, overwhelming her and resetting her fountains.
-
Wraith. Billy has too much randomness and no good addons.
-
This game is not balanced around solo que in any way, shape or form. If SWF didn't exist, every trial would be Knockout/Infectious Fright and 5-gen mass slugging, and no amount of anti-slugging perks would ever fix it. No-one would ever want to play survivor.
So no, the game clearly isn't balanced around solo que and that one little perk combo (and the fact that no-one ever thinks about it) sums up quite nicely just how ingrained SWF is in DbD and how necessary co-ordination is to not getting hard bullied by a ######### Trapper.
Of the issues that DbD has, SWF isn't really one of them. Survivors need co-ordination just like killers need slowdown. The problem is how ######### painful "high-level" DbD is.
-
A Pig chased a survivor around me while I was in a locker and it made me drop so many frames and I don't even understand how.
Seriously, what happened, game? The Exhaustion perk and the hits, that I understand, but I was sitting in a locker watching these two randomly pause in place every few steps then teleport, staring at all of out below-60 pings, wondering how the chase around a pallet-free Temple Pillars tile was dragging on for so long. Well, I guess I know how, but still. Lemme leave and not be subjected to the slideshow of horror.
Also ######### RBT boxes, they can go die in a hole full of scorpions. Tiny scorpions. Tiny scorpions being ridden by termites. With guns.
-
Not really. It's just a meme.

After playing Twins a lot, I think it's another case of The Plague, a killer who's strength is overlooked.
Not really. Twins can be strong against uncoordinated teams that don't know what they're doing or what a locker is, but unlike Plague they get screwed over by a sweaty SWF that knows how to deny a snowball.

Disturbed Ward is nowhere near as bad as it once was, same with Gas Heaven, closing off two of the windows was a good change.
Disturbed Ward got filled with filler loops and junk to hide in, and the main building was buffed by often spawning 3 pallets and having walls buff already-existing god windows.
It's actually easier to play now than it was before they removed the two main building pallet spawns that they've mostly returned.
-
They already have the major slasher icons except Jason, which they can't get. All the rest aren't really "slasher" or "icons".
Seriously, there's really not that many recognisable horror characters. Freddy, Leatherface, Michael Myers, Ghostface, and Jason. Those are the ones that you can show a picture of to a random person in the street and at least have them say "oh, that's whatsisname from the dumb movie!"
And Ghostface is questionable to be on that list.
Edit: To clarify, this is a game built around the "slasher" concept, so those are the only lisences they're really obliged to try and go for.
-
Nah, he's got some basic, Wraith-specific counterplay that doesn't rely on a bad Wraith. He's just more common now and has more flexibility in add-ons.
All of his problems existed before, it's just that they were soothed with the balm of actually winning regularly and also just not going against him that often.
-
It's more like an added layer of RNG. There's the map, the loops, and now the freezing! Legion coming in for a swing? Let's see who wins the coin toss! Nemesis breaking a pallet? Which direction will you have been running in? What obstacles will you collide with?
Walking down a path in a straight line doing absolutely nothing out of the ordinary? Where will you randomly freeze in place for 10 seconds?!
-
If you mean "can you go for 12 hooks and potentially win/get an average of 10 hooks", not even remotely. If you mean "don't hardcore camp, tunnel and mass-slug right from the start," then yes. In fact, those are usually very bad plays that require specific circumstances to actually work in. Seriously, they don't help.
As for survivor... We're apparently all squeaky clean and can do no wrong. I never get called out for predropping pallets, holding W, using strong perks, etc. I get that killers can shut down any real gameplay, but come on - so long as I don't BM, I can be as much of a ######### as I want. That doesn't seem fair, especially given how much I use Lucky Break, Iron Will, OoO, strong medkits, DS, BT, the new Flashbang perk, Head On, etc.
Don't use flashlights much. Maybe that's why I'm so cute and forgivable?
-
An almost-decent killer, some okay perks, some more agro perks for bully squads to gang up on baby killers with but that don't do much in proper trials, and a map that's so huge it's the most survivor-sided map in DbD by default even without mentioning the extremely cramped conditions that nerf nearly every good killer and breed some serious W plays.
Edit: So, in other words, kinda meh but also ######### BHVR.

Those issues don't affect all of the pc players unlike last gen tho.
While I can symphatise with you I still stand by my "opinion" that console generally is at disadvantage.
No need for bad words btw we are just talking.
Edit: And yeah we also freeze all the time not just when we do something. When someone else is doing something we also freeze as well. Game freezes even at the start when camera circles around you. Games with nemesis are the worst, it is like a slideshow.
I mentioned perks because they worsen the problem even more.
Let's hope we all get some improvements after the update. Pc players that have issues as well.
I still don't see this massive disadvantage console players keep insisting they have, I really don't. I play with a controller too, and that's the only gameplay difference. And it's not a big one, be ausw this isn't Siege. If it were true that PC has some magical, mystical advantage, console players would be pushovers.
I did my homework, I know what console DbD is like and I know what PC DbD is like and I'm still saying there's no real difference, no gameplay advantage that other console users don't have and that most PC players can't afford. What do you want, total console segregation? Xbox One only with Xbox one, Xbox one X only with Xbox one X, Series X only with series X, PS 4 pro only with PS4 pro, etc? That's the only way to get a "fair" experience in terms of hardware, because this game does run differently on each individual console microgeneration.
Edit: and yes, perks make my game freeze too, I just didnt think it work mentioning because everything that involves any form of interaction gives varying lengths of frozen screen and/or frozen character.
-
Wait, does that mean I have some magical legitimacy to criticise them, having experience in programming and game development?
Seriously, some of the issues don't make any kind of sense except as a byproduct of poor programming and design choices. Legion and Nemesis, for example - instead of temporarily removing the particle effects that were causing the game to freeze in order to scale them down to a lower resolution and by extension a lower impact on processing, the Devs... Did nothing.
Edit: and that's assuming they're individual, pre-rendered assets and not looped fluid physics.
Edit edit: Also they failed to deliver on a number of promises.

I know the Streamer and I dont think they deranked. I played against them multiple times (granted, not during their Streak) and almost always got them. They were not playing seriously all the time, but those long Streaks are only possible in a 4 man SWF when the whole team is basically dying to get one person out.
And if you want Streaks that big, you have to bring the best Stuff like Keys or Map Offerings. Otherwise it is not possible to escape that often, those are absolute edge cases.
@Topic:
I doubt that there is anything like long Streaks for 4 man escapes. At max, tournament squads would be possible to do that, but those usually dont play in Public Matches, so I doubt that this ever happened. As I have written above, Survivor Streaks are usually only obtained by Individuals in 4 man SWFs, if everyone dies to get this one person out.
It is absolutely possible, the majority of Nurses and Spirits can't deal with 3-minute trials and you're certainly not getting those killers every trial to begin with. It's just boring as ######### and not even remotely impressive, more of an endurance test than anything else.
-
Spirit's harder is you're not using Stridor, you don't get free hits by letting go of your controls, you don't quick-burst and "50/50" (80/20 in the Spirit's favour) loops, and you don't have specifically tuned sound settings and ridiculous headphones.
However, that's a lot of things to avoid doing.
-
Initially? Nurse. But she plateau's early on and becomes pretty damn easy, to the point where you don't really need to master her. Blight has a much flatter curve, almost a diagonal line, and you actually kind of do need to get close to mastering him in order to do as well with him as you would as a mediocre Nurse.
-
Or... IF/Ruin/Undying/Knockout. That way you don't have to be particularly accurate.

I just added hex randomly as a word to adress the space as difference. And yes I agree that you can't always know if someone is pc or not but in cases like that you actually can because you can't have space in your nickname on console. That was my point.
And I respect your opinion even tho I still think that people on last gen are in disadvantage. Especially now when all of us have freezes all the time and some perks make us freeze completely so we can't even use them.
Those issues are plaguing PC as well.
Edit: Seriously, I already pointed that out. There's no "opinion" there, I randomly ######### freeze while running. Not performing any action, just running along in a straight line.
-
You need some kind of slowdown to deal with good teams, but it doesn't have to be Ruin/Undying and it doesn't have to be much.
However, normally you need slowdown to ensure that a trial lasts at least 4 minutes, which may not be fun but it's certainly balanced. Unfortunately.

Surge has too many limits for me.
The only real limitation is the m1 condition. Something that a lot of killers don't have to care about despite ma y of them clearly getting hits while under the effects of their power.

If they try to fix her hitboxes, she won't hit anything.

Have you tried playing killers like deathslinger, nurse, trickster or huntress on controller? And compare it to m&k?
And controller is not the only difference between pc and console. Last gen has a lot of performance issues since launch and now it is not even playable because you freeze more than not throughout the match. I am aware that you have a problem on your pc too but that is not common, while last gen problems are universal. You really need to play on console to understand how bad it runs.
And like I said before you can actually tell some pc players by their names. You don't know that because you don't about console restrictions when it comes to nicknames.
Yes I have, and I've talked to plenty of console killers that play them. They're harder, sure, but the functionality is still 100% there. The best Deathslinger I've ever seen is a console player. The only killer where this wasn't the case was Blight, and now he's fixed. So still no advantage.
And most PC players are also dealing with garbage optimization, because most PC players aren't ######### rich and I'm getting really sick of that assumption. PS5 and Series X have a much greater advantage than PC on that front but everyone keeps milking the magical "console disadvantage".
And that's without mentioning the fact that I've also played this game on Xbox back when optimisation was mostly a console issue and it's honestly no different. It's really not.
And just because you can tell some PC players doesn't mean you can tell all. I go against so many console players with Hex: names and other ridiculous BS that it's kinda sad to see how many people either created an account just for DbD or paid Microsoft's ridiculous renaming fee.
This whole attempted re-ignition of the console/PC wars is extremely misguided. On the optimisation front, current-gen consoles have an enormous edge, equivalent to the rich PC players. On the gameplay front, survivor is easier on a controller and just becuase something is harder doesn't mean the functionality isn't there.
And to cap it all, I'm more scared of 4 crossplay icons than 4 PC players. Way, way more scared. PC players used to suck back before crossplay, then console came in and injected a heavy dose of predropped pallets and holding W (or in my case, holding LT). It also wrecked my survivor que times because suddenly no-one wanted to play killer. But I don't want crossplay disabled, having a giant playerbase is good. It means there's some actual potential for new game modes.
-
I don't really have a favourite killer map, but my favourite survivor map is RCPD. May as well rename it "free win". I can spend so long wandering around being completely useless, looking for totems and chests, exploring the insanely husge and visually stunning map, and the killer is still completely and utterly #########. With a spiked pole dipped in acid and wrapped with razor wire.
-
Give survivors some serious basekit information and buff killers. Totem notifications, teammate aura's, Insidious/Blindness/Knockout deletion, the works.
Then rebalance the game around what we currently consider sweaty SWF's.
-
I play survivor with a controller and it's no different, except that you have more actual control meaning it's easier to loop the killer.
But no, it's not you, it's totally your console being the problem. Everyone with a crossplay icon that you don't like is a PC player. You totally know exactly what DbD on PC is like.
-
@ChurchofPig said:
That's not trippy at all. Also, is it just me or when you're in that pose specifically does it make it feel like Legion's running A LOT slower?
It really does, I think its because we're used to moving much faster when that animation is playing and/or the bobbing isn't syncing properly with the shorter strides.
-
@some_guy1 said:
you cant sabotage traps anymore though?
No, but you can disarm them and render them completely useless unless it's a solo team. Or worse, not even bother to look and instead slam gens and get some generous use out of your W key, but it's actually surprising the number of people that disarm traps instead of just not caring.
-
It's actually 3 if the survivors know to predrop pallets and hold W. Technically it's 5, but that implies actual genrushing and that really is a seperate problem.
Basically, it is balanced. It's just not fair. It's such an insane amount of pressure to put on people. It's honestly worse that you can still win in that scenario
-
3 months after the last chapter, so in about a 5 weeks.
-
That is 100% reportable. Report them on whatever platform these messages were sent on, BHVR cannot and will not do anything about it because it didn't happen in-game so reporting it to them is a waste of time, unless there is recorded evidence of them somehow being homophobic in-game that can be supported with these screenshots.
Edit: for example, hardcore tunneling, camping and kebabing followed by these messages.

It's not really about the 6% but about the information and delay it provides with the scream and the incapacitated effect.
Under normal circumstances 16 seconds not able to work on a gen is 20% of the gen lost and in that time has regressed for another 5%.
So with one survivor it's actually 31% slowdown and you know what gen they were working on if all cards fall right.
It bassicly allows you to hook without having to worry about the affected gen to be completed.
Is that worth not chasing and kicking random gens? Idk. I think it's decent in 3 gen situations where you are able to play a little more defence.
I wouldn't go nuts and go on a kicking spree while still at 5 gens though
I never really get people on the exploding gens. It happens maybe once a trial, and that's if I'm lucky.
-
Not unless there's some sort of tell so that a good survivor doesn't get megafucked for not doing gens.
-
It doesn't really get you anything, but whatever.
-
If Surge lost it's basic attack requirement, then Surge.

so slugging does not make surviovors come to pick up there teammate losing them gen time and hooks?
What? Slugging and tunneling are two completely different things. Tunneling is focusing on one survivor and excluding anyone else, even easier targets. Slugging is leaving a survivor on the ground.
-
I got pushed down to purple ranks and it's been pretty fun and chill. I'm totally happy to lose.
The problem is that sweaty SWF's and killers also got pushed down, so I basically had 5 days of bliss and then it's rank 1 gameplay but in purple ranks and I genuinely can't go down any further without actively depipping.
-
Because tunneling doesn't do anything against genrushing. It's just the killer preying on chill teams and ruining everyone's experience.
Seriously, how the ######### is spending 3 minutes killing one survivor going to stop gens getting done in 2.40?
-

The one thing survivors and killers agree on, survivors are awful people.
In seriousness, this is what happens when one group has the attitude "We can do anything we want, we can jump on every glitch, exploit every bug, but it's wrong for killers to camp."
Yeah, sort of. Killers can absolutely grief survivors way better than survivors can grief killers... But survivors can BM killers and grief other survivors and also hide behind a massive tribe mentality that has people calling me a "killer main" for pointing out any hypocrisy despite playing three times as much survivor in the last month.
-
That's funny, it's always SWF groups that do this to me.
Edit: No, seriously, not trying to be a #########. Every PC player that does this to me is friends with someone else in the trial. If you're on PC, might want to start checking.

Chucky could have a custom animation that depicts him dragging the survivor. Once put on the hook, the hook would rise to normal height and saves will be the same as they are now.
The question is, are the Devs willing to put in the effort for this, can the spaghetti code handle this, and would it be worth it for them?
So, even ignoring the absolute ridiculousness of a tiny little doll dragging soemkne around at the speed of a regular killer... Saves wouldn't work. That's kind of the sticking point. What, Chucky gets blinded and suddenly the survivor pops up and runs? A pallet crushes the survivor, somehow stunning Chucky, and the survivor gets up and leaves?
Killers have to share the same basic functions. That's what DbD is built around. That's why Chucky, or any tiny killer, won't work as a solo killer. The physically can't share the basic functionality of killers without looking genuinely moronic. And the only way to add a moronic killer is to lean in to the stupidity in full tongue-in-cheek mode... But then you can't get the lisence.
-
It's not good. Chases are more important than kicking gens, so even with PGTW you're not getting much value. It's just 6%. And that's assuming it wasn't finished before you got a down.
At least Surge is completely passive. Eruption feels like a consolation prize for making the bad play.
-
It's another SWF perk.

Just like how the game spawns fountains for Plague, Lock Boxes for Pig and chests for Nemesis, it could spawn short hooks that rise after Chucky hooks someone. Or they can replace hooks with nooses. Not that hard to come up with.
And how is Chucky supposed to get survivors to these hooks? How are Saves going to work?
-
The only way Chucky could work is as a Twins legendary skin. The Devs had to shrink down Nemesis quite a bit so he could actually function, so they'll either need to massively grow Chucky so he can do crap like vault windows, hook survivors and break pallets, or as a double killer identical to Twins so may as well but out the middle man and make it a legendary reskin.
-
Except that snowballing is a thing and makes any attempt to focus on hooks pointless.
Edit: Also, Hag and Twins should be at the very bottom. This tier list isn't about who can win the most, it's about who gets the most hooks.
Edit edit: Also, Plague spawns with a corrupt fountain that any good Plague main uses to force the survivors to cleanse. Her new counterplay is actually to force a fountain reset.

John Constantine.

Why just console?
