dbd competitive is not really a thing yet at least, but I think they all played decently good

They were all good players that would probably wreck normal teams... But the reason DBD isn't competitive is because nothing beats spreading out, popping 3 gens, then stacking on the last 2 to avoid regression

  • Most of those teams were not actually competitive. Just saying.

  • Does premade mean SWF? Where did this term come from? I have literally never heard it before a week ago

  • Yeah, there's no heartbeat on a lot of killers... And coincidentally, I've been going against them more than normal, especially with IF. Hmmm. I wonder whose a scumbag and whose a normal player of said killers and perk.

  • Honestly, I feel nothing.

Oh, wait, DbD... Yeah, no, I don't feel like I have an advantage on PC except performance-wise, and even then it's an advantage I have over other PC players as well because not everyone can run DBD at 60fps.

  • Good players prove that wrong. All the stats are flooded with bad survivors that refuse to work together, quit, or don't do gens. It's not really a win if the other side didn't even try, it's just cleaning up a mess. It has nothing to do with a killers relative power, just bad survivors teams. Same goes for killers that refuse to learn to play properly.

  • Rework it to a different aura perk. Maybe make it so that the killer see's your aura when you unhook a survivor (babysitter style), heal a survivor or pop a gen, but you see the killers aura whenever they perform an action (locker search, gen kick, grab, pickup, hook). That was just a 1-minute brainstorm, but it already sounds more balanced.

  • And that's why I think the Sacrificial Ward is dumb.

  • Well that was a spike to be proud of.

  • That was quite possibly a hacker. I haven't heard of any bugs that revert exhaustion to its old state.

  • Aww. I guess I'm just a bot, then.

  • Then nearly everyone is a sociopath, instead of approximately 1% of the population.

It's just anonymity. There's no repercussions, no social shaming (for good or bad), no need to be empathetic or sympathetic. Give someone a mask and they'll do everything they always wanted to do but were too scared to.

Now we take a step back and read this again and take a deep breath.

We are now down to complain that some players were able to outsmart others by doing something that is hard to do? I mean, one could say they are playing good and use their tools smartly, but why bother, I guess.

And because the others cannot always avoid getting hit like killer players are not always able to hit the others, we need to increase even more the restrictions to the killer players that the others get better chances of avoiding their attacks?

    Really?

    @illuminaegi

It is an interesting idea to signal even more when an invisible guy gets invisible or maybe where he is currently at, maybe we should keep the red stain visible even when the killer is invisible; we could use that also to signal where a nurse is jumping to or where ranged killers are aiming at.

Wait, do you think it's actually difficult to play PH with his current tactic? There's not much skill to it, and it's guaranteed. Either animation-lock into hit, or go fo the easiest m1 of your life. At least survivors would be able to mindgame his alt attack if he couldn't borderline-instantly m1.

Seriously, there's not much skill to just zoning with PH. At least Slinger requires your to be a good shot. PH just gets you without a chance to avoid it and with little to no skill

The fuel could be explained though. They could already be filled up before you enter.

And the fact that they aren't connected to an electrical grid? Or that it's a lovecraftian monster controlling every little environmental detail and it is literally in the lore that it doesn't get anything right?

  • I dunno. Do survivors prefer you to hook them, or leave them to bleed out?

  • If this is some lore question, please do remember that nothing in the Entities realm functions as intended. The generators also magically have fuel, in case you have forgotten.

  • The problem with bloodlust is the same as the problem with instadropping pallets - you didn't earn it. You played poorly, with no skill, and got rewarded for it.

  • The maps are the biggest factor in DBD after sheer gen speeds. Map seeding is the only way to make a tournament fair... But it would also encourage lobby bullying, because competitive teams are competing for money and want to practice and win against randoms.

That being said... Imagine a proper seed system for KYF. Imagine going to a perfect Father Campells Chapel. Weak maze -> long wall gym -> junk tile -> main building. Mmmmm. I want to Blight in that map.

  • The problem is that "nerfing" and "making harder" aren't the same thing. Everyone is screaming "nerf nerf nerf" and don't seem to realise... Nurse. Spirit. Billy. All got "nerfed," all are just as strong.

  • Ohhhh..... That's like asking which is your favourite child...

Gods, I don't know. Kindred gives you the most amount of info when you most need it, but Bond can prevent you from being in that situation in the first place...

Kindred. You don't have to level Dwight. That's my only reason.

This is a HORROR game. And since when is Chucky not considered a slasher?

Its not just a horror game, it's a game from a very particular and popular subgenre of horror. It's not a psychological horror, it's not a lovecraftian horror, it's not a bodyhorror, it's a slasher (that's not to say it cannot have other horror elements, just that it is far from its primary subgenre). Brutal killers run around murdering groups of people. The only way it could get more slasher is if it had a mocking morality play. It's not The Excorcist, it's Halloween... Literally.

And I wasn't saying Chucky wasn't a slasher, just pointing out that you have to take into account thematic context. In a game where killers are big, scary humans... A little doll? It's not the most out there thing, but it is almost at the point where disbelief has gone from suspended to "#########."

Somewhere along the line, my original point got lost but let me try again

I didn't say the game was competitive, I said it has competitive elements. I personally thinking DBD's just a sports game under the sad pretension that's it's a horror game, but that's a story for another day. The goal of both sides is to win. That being said, my post was against the idea that you had to play a certain way in order to please survivors. Placing that role on a single player that's struggling to juggle four other players is never a good thing. You should not have that responsibility. The developers should. It's the reason I am against the survivor rulebook. It's gotten to a point to where you have to literally not use certain addons, tactics, perks, or a damn killer so you won't be labeled as toxic. We as a collective should push for more dynamic gameplay that would account for both sides instead.

I think the fact that you feel you can't cut loose is a symptom of a larger problem. You have as much right to fun as they do.

    Hopefully this is clearer.

First off, "It's a competitive game." Direct quote, from you. Nothing got lost along the way, you just misspoke.

Second... I'm not talking about just killers, I'm talking about everyone. What kind of person thinks it's actually fun to genrush? Or BM at strong areas? Or run the smallest of pp builds? The kind that thinks they accomplish something by doing it. The kind of person that thinks DbD is competitive. Is it the Devs problem that broken toys exist? Yes. Is it the communities problem for claiming them to not be broken because maybe one day they can bully other players for money? Yes.

  • This is a slasher game filled with slasher characters that have to fit the theme. That is the one thing you've got to keep in mind. I'm still surprised they added Demogorgon, and I honestly doubt anything like that will be repeated.

  • By predicting instead of tracking. You aren't supposed to use her power for hits, but for positioning.

But you're missing why this is an issue...why the hell should you? It's a competitive game. You should have a rule or a guide book from other players. I think everyone misses this point and it's batty. We need to be pushing for changes from developers that ensure smoother games and doesn't put the role of babysitter in the hands of the player. Right now, only killers deal with this.

PvP and Competitive are not the same thing. DbD isn't competitive, survivors literally have the option to win every trial, no exceptions and no real contest, not even from an Ebony Mori Nurse with range add-ons. Please dont pretend otherwise. This isn't Overwatch, it isn't Siege, it's Worms. Play to have fun, not steamroll the opposition and pretend it was skill.

And, by the way, DBD should never be competitive. That would ruin the game.

If a certain strategy is uncounterable BUT it takes insane levels of skill to achieve it, then it's not really an issue, since players will rarely ever run into those who are perfect at the game. For example, in my ~850 hours of play, I've only ran into one god-tier Nurse. It felt like there was nothing I could do and that she was far too good, but it wasn't a problem since I could simply move onto the next match. Since these "uncounterable" players are so few and far between, and since this game is casual and thus shouldn't be balanced around the highest tier of play, then these scenarios are acceptable.

Okay... What about literally everything else?

Also, I go against good Nurses on a regular basis. You know, actual good Nurses that react instead of predicting, float around instead of spamming and wasting their power, and quickly adapting to your mindgames. I get one every other week. Sometimes even more. That's not to say they win every trial, but it's also not to say that it is in any way fun.

  • @Yffriium said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1615483#Comment_1615483

DBD is a casual game, meaning that things don't need to be balanced around the highest tier of play. Very few people are perfect Slingers and Nurses. Most all humans make mistakes. Even if there's no counterplay to the perfect Nurse, it doesn't really matter since those games are 1/1000.

Uh... No, uncounterable things are extremely common in DBD. And I'm a huge opposer of competitive DBD, the game is unbalanced at base. But that doesn't mean that genuine BS should exist. The game being more fair and fun doesn't make it competitive - if anything, it removes much of the competitiveness, since there's a difference between OP and So Frustrating You Want To Quit The Game.

  • Uh... What? How can you physically collide with an abstract concept?

  • I don't think that was a lag switch. Your body didn't rubber band at all, which is what usually happens when someone is choking their connection. That may have just been plain old hacking.

Or, the new server tick rate has changed how lag spikes effect gameplay and that was a complete and honest accident.

    Press A on your keyboard.

    Use windows.

Don't just waste the pallet and actually be good with your resources.

    Turn around a corner.

There, four foolproof ways to completely take away Blight's power. Do with them what you will.

Great, I'll just hit you because I'm not stupid and I actually use his power in loops to force pallets.

  • Slinger/PH/Nurse/Spirit while in a chase.

    Thrilling Tremors/Pop Freddy.

    Locker DS.

    DS/UB. Or DS/UB/SG.

    Dead Hard for Distance.

    Actual genrushing.

I've heard the "counterplay" arguments for all of these. It's all BS. You cannot dodge a Nurse, Slinger or PH if they are decent (Slinger, especially, will just break the pallet and shoot you before you reach the next one), you cannot mindgame a Spirit if she can hear you (either she has Stridor or you don't have IW). There is nothing reasonable to be done with DS/UB, because playing aggressively/lazily is a thing that exists and you cannot just give them free gens/unhooks, but you also cannot punish them as well. You could always facecamp the slug.... But that will lose you the game, and SG removes even that. Locker DS is the same. DH for distance, or "push a button to undo a mistake" also has no counterplay - you cannot bait out DH for distance, only DH to dodge hits. Thrilling/Pop on Freddy is either "have an extra 16 seconds, or the gen gets popped." Actual genrushing... Yeah, no. Doors open in 3 minutes against an Ebony Mori/range add-ons Nurse.

Counterplay is doing something reasonable (AKA that doesn't lose you the game) to avoid a thing. These things have no reasonable counterplay. There are others, of course, but these are the biggest offenders. You can try to shame people all you want, but there is plenty of evidence that they do not, in fact, have counterplay.

No point in mobility if you can't do anything with it.

M1 isn't mitigated by skill on the Killer's side one-tenth as much as it is mitigated by mistakes on the Survivor's side—egregious ones.

Then break the pallet and hit them if they're that good at playing tiles. He's Blight, not Legion, he doesn't wait for them to get somewhere else because of limited movement speed. You can absolutely hit with his Lethal Rush, because they can only dodge if if they have something to hide behind. I figured that out in my second match. And even if you dont hit them, for whatever reason, you're still right next to them, between tiles, ripe for a slap. So slap them.

Seriously, he has one of the best chases in the game. Even tiles he's forced to play like an m1 killer (which are only about half of them) he can still just zone, break and hit before they can chain. Then you hook them and zoom around them map for another chase, ten seconds after your last one ended, because he has the absolute best mobility in the game.

  • @Demogordon_Ramsay said:

Nah, until they fix his lunge out of a Rush, he's going to be bad.

That lunge turning is so bad you might as well be running in a straight line. It's countered by just going around a corner or pressing A on your keyboard. It's probably the easiest ability in the game to dodge, and until he gets a better lunge out of Rush, he's going to be one of the most loopable M1 Killers in the game.

The mobility doesn't even help that much. What's the point of mobility if you can't do anything with it?

    Do you even killer?

    "What's the point of mobility?"

There is so much to unpack with that one statement that I don't even want to begin. I just really felt the need to highlight it, considering the weakness of m1 killers is their lack of mobility thanks to the m1 aspect being mitigated by skill and the tile-chaining being mitigated by... Oh, right. Mobility.

Can’t stop moaning can you people. One thing gets fixed then straight to the next. What about the killer sided maps? What’s that? You don’t care about those ones do you.

As soon as you get your way and survivors are all dead in 5mins or less you’ll be back here crying about queue times as they all stop playing

Honestly, all of the "killer sided" maps are just really good for stealth, so even they aren't really killer sided, they just cuck people in bright clothing

  • Because stealth sucks and he's the only killer that benefits from being literally unable to see scratchmarks or crouched survivors.

  • I'm always altruistic. I don't care. Unless, that is, someone has been nothing but a toxic douchebag, in which case go die in a hook for all I care.

  • It's probably to provide counterplay. I can see him being too strong just slamming next to someone and hitting them.

  • If someone were to say that I wouldn't argue. Personally, I think it's Haddonfield, but Ormond is still really, really bad.

  • @Endstille said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1615046#Comment_1615046

pls this is not even a comparison, a decent billy will shred most of the survivors at a single loop

    while blight is getting braindamage

    Okay bud.

  • Honestly, I don't know. I keep seeing people saying that he has an extremely high skill floor as a reason for his weakness, but I cannot really tell one way or another because I personally picked him up really quick because his playstyle makes sense to me. I see alot of people saying he's very difficult though, so I think that's probably the reason.

The only other reason I can think of is that people were expecting an OP killer, or one with little to no counterplay, and because Blight isn't that they refuse to give him a chance.

  • DBD is in a pretty considerable surge at the moment, and it's been steadily growing for years. You don't have to worry about not having fellow new people to play with.

That being said, the matchmaking is a bit busted at the moment, it's based around your rank but as you have seen you can rank up way too quick and get matched against teams that are way too good because there's so few red rank killers and it prioritises fast matchmaking over fair matchmaking. (I have no opinion on whether that is okay or not.)

  • Blight is as strong as Billy ever was, Instasaw and Crack Billy notwithstanding. People just suck at him and assume it's the killer being weak, not them having no skill with him because they didn't give it time to develop.

  • Maybe it's because I've only been playing Blight, but I feel like it's actually a little killer-sided. The main building and House of Pain were both nerfed, fences aren't much of an issue, and they somehow, miraculously found a middle-ground between ridiculously OP and extremely atmospheric foliage.

Edit: I worded that last sentence wierdly. The foliage is fine, it's not OP and it's very atmospheric.

  • Yeah, I've been feeling something missing on the forum. A slice of wholesomeness that just isn't there.

  • I haven't had any problem using them. I'm still getting blinds just fine, and people are blinding me.

  • I think it would be filled with toxic people insulting and belittling everyone and genrallly ruining everything, not to mention how unscary it would make the game because suddenly everyone is super coordinated and there's little threat form the killer.

  • Increasing his cancel time would be good. If the survivor dodges, you can still hit them with his power if you're good enough, it's just hard.

  • Please no, that would actually mess me up. I don't always want to go for the survivor it faces me towards. I'd rather just rely on myself.
