Oh yeah. If people thought the racial slurs in the end game chat then chat would bring it to another level. It'd be a double edged sword for sure.

I play solo without DS and agree to an extent about the complaints about DS. I'm indifferent as of whether or not it gets nerfed though.

I can name a few.
I would actually like voice proximity chat. It'll solve a lot of issues players have with swf and would be pretty immersive. They might as well.

I did this and people still complained to me that I didn't "understand the killer".
People's obvious personal biases aside though, this is true for ANY part of the game. People who play both sides not only know the struggles of both, but CAN compare them and make appropriate calls.
Sadly though, there are people who then call them "entitled [other side] mains" for pointing out the other side of the story.
I would point out that people could still play both sides and could still disagree with you.
-
So much this. I'm tired of people saying any killer they hate going up against is "brain dead" or takes no skill, this is often said to manipulate people into doing things they want them to do. I had this same perspective when I started off, I only played survivor and thought the plight of killers were hilarious until I started playing more killer myself. That's not to say there isn't any validity to survivors' frustrations, but when they pretend that every tool you use is an easy win button that irks me off.

Your post was great. Too bad some people didn't take the time to properly read it!
I think the main problem with this killer (along with some others) is that most people fail to see this game as an asymmetrical game. And that's pretty much it. They ask for counterplay on 1v1, failing to see that their true power should lie on beating the killer as a team. That's one of the strongest problems this community has in my opinion.
The killer is supposed to be the power role, you should always be at a disadvantage when in a 1v1 situation. Going down in a chase, is not losing the game. You are supposed to get caught, the key lies on how much time did you manage to buy to your team. Even dying don't mean playing poorly in this game, but people fail to see it that way and therefore - deathslinger don't have counterplay. Truth is deathslinger is quite weak
This is so true. I'd argue this is one of the largest problems plaguing the game.
-
@ItzNobody said:
Lot of people be sayin' the Slinger ain't got no counter.
Wait, this fella here?
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/UPH01471D3H1/deathslinger.jpg
This guy? The gun-tootin, harpoon-spearin, deep spittin, quick scope'n, violin stringin, gee-tar playin, Micah's redemption, Texas Dallas Cowboy?
In my opinion, he's quite fair in theory. Allow me to explain.
First, we look onto his Pro's:
- His weapon gives him a bit of range for use, thus closing the gap between him and the Survivor before reeling them towards his chuckling grasp.
- His terror radius is small, granting him a stealthy advantage at least when it comes to the Survivors' reaction speed. Harder to react when the Killer is much closer than you presume.
- His music conceals his terror radius. A heartbeat is associated with a terror radius, the louder it beats the closer the Killer is. Deathslinger's Terror Radius comes with a song of the wild wild west (Enter Will Smith with shades) which in turn 'disguises' the heartbeat as it is more difficult to hear. No heartbeat, no idea of proximity for certain. He could be a bit far, or taking aim from around the corner.
- His bullet has the tiniest hitbox. I've only seen amazing Deathslinger's land a shot through the Killer Shack or through teeny-tiny cracks within junk obstacles in the Azarov Maps. This can cut both ways as it is just as easy to miss the shot, but I placed it as a pro in this case. It is quite sneaky if you can land it, and a sharp aim will cut some chases short. *Snicker Snicker*
- Windows are your best friend. Who needs Bamboozle when you got a gun? Sure, the gun may have been made by Scorpion from Mortal Kombat but it gets the job done. Shoot em at a window vault, reel yourself towards that window barrier and SMACK! Free hits galore! Just like the Huntress, you want them Survivors to vault them windows.
Next, we look at the Cons:
- You are so sloooooooooooooooowwwwwww (Echo) Yes it's true, anyone can tell you his first con is that movement speed. The average Killer runs at 115% Movement Speed. Some Killers move slower at 110% Movement Speed, while all Survivors run at 100%. Though you still have the speed advantage, you will feel that missing 5% when you find yourself struggling to catch up to your objective.
- Your gun ain't got no range! Okay to be clear, it has decent range at about 18 meters tops to land that shot. However, 18 meters is not 24 meters, and like The Executioner's Punishment of the Damned attack you will morn those moments when you would aim for the attack, but they are just one meter too far.
- The Deathslinger is a tall Killer, his height hinders him during the chase as it is possible in certain loops with high obstacles for you to see the top of his hat still, this would injure his "mind-game" potential. For those who do not understand, a "Mind-Game" is when a Killer decides to hide the red stain they carry in front of them by facing away from where they are attempting to ambush you. Usually this is why some Killers perform a Michael Jackson Moonwalk when they are being looped, leaving us laughing as we get struck by a smooth criminal :)
- That gun helps with the chase, but it don't shoot Generators. Slow speed will bite you hardest when it comes to protecting you Generator. Now that I got a hook, my Pop Goes the Weasel is ready. Just gotta pop a Generator aaaaaalllll the way over there. Welp, I made it but they finished the Gen soon as I got there. I know I'm not alone, and this isn't a unique issue for Deathslinger or even average speed Killers. We've all been there, but the slow Killers gotta fight a little bit harder for map mobility.
- Add-ons, what add-ons? This is the more controversial point here, but I don't think the Deathslinger has good add-ons. Okay well, they are okay but they aren't changing the game by much. Faster reload speed is unanimously agreed to be his best add-ons, although the others aren't bad they aren't too special either. Quicker cooldown for a missed shot? Okay that one is alright. Longer mending time? Eh, I ain't no Legion sweetheart. Smaller Terror Radius while aiming? Basically Furtive Chase but a little better. Not the worst add-ons, but I don't hear nobody mention anything else besides them Warden Keys.
- Ye can shoot em over pallets but... if that pallet is dropped and between you and yer prey? Welp, either break the chain and suffer a stun or let em go and break that pallet. A dropped pallet can stall a Huntress and wound a Deathslinger bad. Be sure to get em before they get you.
- A lot of work just to land a hit! If they a bit far, shoot em, reel em, hit em, reload, repeat. Get's the job done, but that's a lot of work to down your average Survivor. This is why Save The Best For Last is looked as a must have on this here fella, helps cut the time short and make him more effective. But without the Shape's perk, this cowboy gonna be a bit rusty...
The list can go on but you get my point, I think the Deathslinger has plenty of counterplay. He is slow, his range is limited, and a dropped pallet hurts him plenty. Sure, you can't dodge his shot if he pull out the quick scope, but that's the point. Slinger is deadly when he got you on the run, just like a real Texan-er cowboy, I mean!
For Survivors, keep your distance and keep obstacles between you two. In Shelter Woods, trees are your best friend. In Azerov's, use them larger Junk obstacles. He's a big fella, so keep your distance and stay strong on those Generators. Hug those walls, keep them pallets on your side, and if you're healthy don't be afraid of getting injured in the chase. It's when you're hurt that he becomes a true threat.
For Killers, this gunslinger is quite effective in the chase. Don't let the number of Con's fool ya, his Pro's can get some work done with the right plays. Use perks to cover his weaknesses, same as every other Killer. Pallets a bother? Brutal Strength. Wanna cut that chase short? Save The Best For Last. Rabbit season? Monitor and Abuse ya Elmer Fudd lookin' mother fu-
In Conclusion! Thank you guys for giving my homework essay a read. Let me know what you think, does the Deathslinger have no counterplay? I'm sure I missed a thing or two here, so feel free to add your thoughts down below!
I like that you provided actual counterplays. This thread needs to be pinned.

Camping tunneling and others ######### "strategies" are valid, but absolutely anti-fun. In an ideal game, and game is about fun, remember that, these behaviours shouldn't exist.
That said, if devs don't have tools to create a funnier game (or they don't want to), at least punish more who decide to make this game unfun. My idea, negative score events... for killers and survs, don't misunderstand me. For example, hit a surv just after unhook, -800 points, leave a surv on the ground more than 10 seconds, -X points based on how much time is on the ground, let a surv die on the ground, -1000 points, stay 24 meters from hook while not in chase, -X points based on how much time is near the hook... and more.
Yeah, no one would play killer. lol
-
@Moundshroud said:
I want to start by saying I don't have a problem with camping. I think that if the need drives the Killer, they should camp, tunnel, slug, or Mori. These are all special purpose tools in the Killer's toolbox. They are valid tactics and there is no point in shaming or giving a Killer grief over choosing to try them. Used incorrectly, they will cost the Killer dearly. Used correctly, they can make a game.
The issue is that the Killer and Survivors have mutually exclusive goals. Survivor Players don't want to stay on the hook, and quite a few of them say that the Killer should move off so they can be unhooked. This is unreasonable. More level-headed Survivor Players want the Killer to move off enough for there to at least be a chance of a safe rescue. Ok, this is not unreasonable in theory. So how do you accomplish this?
First, penalties will never work. Right now the Killer does lose some points for camping, more if face camping. But in the end, a bird in the hand, is worth two in the bush. You have to give the Killer a reason to depart the hook, something that furthers his/her goals and make leaving worthwhile. Here are some things that might be tempting:
- A base-kit barbecue & chili effect where the other Survivors greater than 32 meters away have their Auras revealed briefly. Killers that have a direction to go are more likely to risk leaving.
- Instead of a penalty for staying near, why not give Killers a bonus for moving away, i.e. the further they go, the greater the value. Think of this like the Bold Survivors get for staying within the Killer's terror radius. In this case, the Killer is being bold by moving away from the Hook, i.e. taking a risk. The logistics would have to be worked out, i.e. a maximum number of points that can be earned, and tied to time away.
- And what if summoning the Entity is paused while the Killer stays within a certain range, i.e. point blank (face camping) until either all the other Players are gone, or the hooked Player simply decided to make his/her three attempts to get off the hook, fails, and the auto-summons the Entity. This would mean face-camping would all but guarantee the rest of the team getting everything done, AND the Player unfortunately hooked can choose to leave whenever they like. *Likewise camping beyond point-blank might simply extend the timer, rather than just pausing it.
My personal preference would be a combination of one and two above. I personally think Barbecue & Chili should remain its own Perk. I put it in there as an alternative, since some weak version of things being base-kit has a precedent. But the combination of one and two above would reward Killers for moving off, while at the same time reward the overall team if they stay. More to the point, if the other Survivors finish everything out, they are more likely to come back for the hooked one as a group with all the advantages for save at the end. Giving that poor guy who had to sit on the hook the "option" to still make the attempts and sacrifice out ensures that nobody will be held hostage unless they want to remain for the good of their team.
Anyway, I'm just spit-balling ideas here. I don't actually think camping is that big an issue. Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes he eats you. I'm just saying that if you want to curb the behavior you have to give the Killer both an incentive for going, and cut into his/her reason for staying.
A very intelligent addition to this ongoing discourse. I really wish more players would look for more alternatives than shaming. It fixes nothing and make people not want to play.

That's something that has always fascinated me. What in the world do survivors even want from this game? I play survivor, I want a tense game. That was the appeal to me when I picked up this game. I wonder if killers and survivors expect different things from this game or maybe the developers have this outdated vision for DBD that no longer applies today. I think if we nail that then both sides would be happy.
-
I'm going to need killers to learn to stop apologizing for the way they play and engaging with people that bring bad faith. It's getting tiring at this point.

Provided you're acting in good faith, I do agree it should be fixed. No one should deal with broken gameplay and glitches regardless of which side they play. I don't think killers should use this thread as a means to voice their gripes about perk nor should they take pleasure in it being bugged. It's a bad look. Behavior needs to take some time and get rid of the pressing glitches everyone has been trying to bring to their attention.

You got it. It's called NOED. If you failed to kill everyone before the gens are all done, you still get a chance to roll around one-shooting and slugging everyone, or, you know, if you feel like hook-camping and then tunneling someone, you can wait a few seconds before picking them up. You play how you want, and we'll play how we want. If that is your strategy, then we'll strategize to counter it.
You know how appalled killers get when survivors complain about those "strategies?" Well, survivors get equally appalled when killers complain about our counters to those "strategies."
For killers it's worse. Not liking something is one thing, but we literally can't even use certain killers anymore without someone insulting our credibility as a player, add in the fact that you'll be called racial slurs at the end of the match by four other players. I honestly don't give a ######### which perk anyone uses, only they need to be redone in a way that allow for diverse playstyles.
I also disagree about NOED, everyone misses the original intent and point of its existence. It's an end game perk like Remember Me. The end game is still part of the game. It isn't over until you leave the exit gates. Its meant to instill a sense of urgency and fear among the survivors. Whether or not it succeeds in this remains to be seen.

Doesn't mean that its fair, and equipping unfair perks or using them in scummy ways does make you scummy, this is just superior logic and reasoning.
There's something to be said about exploits, but using perks does not make you toxic. They're tools. Things to be used. I wouldn't accept this towards killers, I don't think this attitude should be shown towards survivors.

@Moundshroud said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/194589/1st-time-killer
No, not really. The key thing you learn as a Survivor (which you already know) which helps you become a better Killer is HOW they think. You know where they are likely to go, how they are likely to hide near a Generator when they hear a Killer coming so that when he/she moves on that they will come right back to it. In other words, being a God of looping won't really help you as a Killer because the two Skills, looping and chasing a looper are just different enough. Basically, a Killer just needs to be able to discern when to continue a chase and when to break it off. So you probably already have enough knowledge to know when you will be wasting too much time because the Survivor has all the tools, good pallets, windows, etc. Does that make sense?
If you have been playing as a Survivor you know how they approach a map. That is the big take away. So dive into Killer; my personal suggestion is Michael Myers (I'm biased of course) because there are so many different builds that you can really come up with your own style. Nurse and Blight are wicked powerful, but have a STEEP learning curve. You will suck at them a long time before you get good. Spirit is also very powerful but her learning curve isn't bad.
I hate to hijack a person's thread, but how does one get better with Spirit and Blight?
-

I've been playing DBD for about 3 months as solo Survivor. Currently Rank 8, but I still have a 50/50 shot of being a pretty decent looper, or potato.
Thanks to daily challenges and getting sacrificed more often the higher I rank up, I've considered trying out Killer. This is because I've seen on the forums (and it makes sense) that to play one side helps when playing the other.
I'd love to improve my Survivor play by being Killer for awhile. But as much as I have played Survivor, being that I'm not a god looper I'm not sure the experience will give me any adavantage from the get go (SWF and new Killer experiences from the forums don't help).
Is there a level of decency you need as Survivor to be a decent Killer? If not, just any tips from these Killers that keep wrecking me as Survivor would be much appreciated.
The only good advice I could give is pay attention and make good use of your senses as playing killer will require that you use all of them. Well maybe not smell or taste.

Usually if a killer wants to leave the game, they won't post it in discussion, they simply just leave quietly.
So how do you know killers are leaving? The queue time. If the killer queue time is instant, and survivor's queue time is like ages, then obviously number of killer has dropped.
There was a time like that if i'm not wrong.
You can can still quit the game and post here. Unless there's a killswitch that ends your membership when you quit the game, I don't really understand where you're getting at. I haven't played for months until now but during my absence I still viewed the forums.

I myself don't give a flying crap which perk people use, I just want the developers to have a solid foundation that make it to where the tools we're given provides creative and dynamic ways to play the game without being pigeon holed to certain tactics.

DS has already been nerfed heavily 3 times, I don't think it needs looked at. Killers do need to grow a pair and stop asking for survivors to be dead on a silver platter.

No, I am not going to be thankful about a company that makes a live service game to make money.
Companies are a business to make money. They are not our friends. Stop treating them like they are victims. They are not and BHVR knows perfectly what it's doing and if they don't that's still on them because it's their product that they are selling and advertising.
I am certainly not going to be thankful when they put in monetization traps to purposely manipulate people to keep playing the game like it's a part time job and to milk their consumers of their money (I.E. the battle pass). It's like asking me that the thief stole from me instead of outright mugging me.
Meanwhile the actual product we're supposed to be playing remains incredibly broken and borderline unplayable after every content patch until two or three hot fixes come in weeks later down the line that fixes the more blatant issues (usually) but still always leaves a couple things that cripples the foundation of the game more and more that end up never being fixed, only for the process to repeat again when the next major update comes out.
Sure there are people who legitimately have fun with this game. But there are also people who are legitimately upset and for a lot of valid reasons with a lot of valid criticisms.
This is the only live service game I've played that doesn't have a proper options menu after over 4 years. And if Fallout 76 didn't exist, I would say the buggiest as well.
The FTP mechanics are the worse. The game should be free. I was amazed the fanbase even went along with it when they introduced a battle pass. I have completely moved on, I have only been playing lately because I met a cool group that wanted to run some games. But who needs damage control when you have corporate bootlickers like the person you were responding to.

Seriously, ever since the notes on the upcoming update were released all I see is negative comments towards the devs and the game itself from the Forums to YouTubers thoughts about the update. There’s even a thread making fun of Almo for not answering a comment directed at him. For the amount of complaining and negativity that people give to this game and to the devs, people still play it. At the end of the day if it’s really an issue or if it bothers you that much then don’t play the video game simple as that. Let the devs do their job please. At the moment since the update is focusing on Pyramid Head and pop, all of the killer mains are upset. This is just a tip of advice for both roles, when something doesn’t go YOUR way, don’t lash out at the devs or anyone for that matter and let them do their job. You wouldn’t like it if you were working and someone lashed out at you for trying to do your job or tell you how to do your job. That’s all.
Was this written by a first grader? The forums are made for this very purpose, I don't agree with everything said here but like me everyone here is a paying customer. I'm pretty sure the developers don't need you kissing their ass. They're adults, they could handle criticism and right now this is a pretty controversial change.

Killer main, but play both sides (like 60/40 split) - My sympathies are mostly with survivors at this point. When a killer has a dogshit game on a terrible map vs stacked 2nd chance perks, it's horrible for sure and shouldn't exist, but those matches are FAR less frequent than bullshit unfun survivor experiences, Iri Head, Mori, Spirit etc. Boring as ######### experiences that you wish you'd never queued up for, I don't frequently DC, but I alt f4 hidden offerings unless I'm in 4 man (in which case we usually sweat and tbag, because honestly ######### people who bring moris).
Infact, in general, most of the killers we utterly destroy are the boring ones, which is definitely somewhere between 1 in 3 or 1 in 2 games depending on luck. Killer is Spirit/Freddy/Phead/Slinger? Chase interaction is boring af, just sweat gens, try and destroy them, get out to go next. Hard camping? Just rush gens. Mori? Definitely could never main survivor as someone who enjoys chaes and not stealthing, when the most fun part in a decent number of games is just holding M1 and destroying the killer because he wants to play boring #########, pretty satisfying too. If the killer actually picks someone fun, don't care about winning, just want to make it a fun match - point being that this is because there's no fun to be had when you're vs one of the aforementioned killers.
Feel sorry for anyone who mains survivor honestly, I've always seen people say stuff like 'try killer and you'll feel real pain' 'i feel so sorry for killer mains' - in my experience playing current dbd, the opposite is true for me, survivor is a decently miserable experience and some days I just have to drop it and play another game/switch to killer, as going vs a Spirit into Iri Head into a first hook mori is pretty depressing, yet I notice killers complain far more and it kinda baffles me.
Then they should take it up with the developers and not punish their teammates or the killer. The killer should not be punished for playing their best and using their most efficient tools. I hate this idea of people holding the killer's experience hostage because they refuse to play the way they want them to.

That's a lie! Everybody knows that spirit is totally OP and you can not loop her for 3 gens as there is no counterplay! /s

BTT:
Bhvr needs to come up with a solution, the dcs totally ruin the fun of any round. I don't want to farm because 2 people dc at the start because people do not even attempt to play the game. On the other hand it sucks to punish the other 2 or whatever remaining people in the trial because they are not the ones who did dc. Shame on ppl who dc.
I have suggested killer bots. It'll solve the annoying killer shaming for their perks and tactics then it'll solve disconnections. Let them play with a killer that will do whatever they want. Great for training too.

I wouldn’t know. Could you enlighten me please? You seem “on brand for this fan base” kiddo
I don't follow you, I wasn't calling you a dick, I am referring to the people taking the piss out of me. I'm agreeing with you. Rather than trolling me, they could have asked.

Maybe it was more like "I have never heard of that and can't imagine it is any near as iconic as the licensed DLCs added so far, so I vote for 'nope, don't need it' "
Not as iconic, no. It's more so a cult classic similar to Evil Dead, but mainly among people who enjoy Japanese Horror. That being said, I'm more than happy to discuss the film or its merits as a DLC, I just didn't enjoy people being dicks. It's more than fair if people aren't interested though I highly recommend the movie; I just didn't see the point of the hostility and trolling. I wasn't even being toxic. lol

No worries, happy to help. I'll check it out, seems cool. Just so you know the Entity didn't take Ash, he screwed up an incantation and got booted to the Entitys realm, the Entity would probably want nothing to do with Ash cause hes "The Chosen One".
Oooooh I didn't know that. I didn't bother to read Ash's bio. I can't really think of a way for him to end up there other than a portal of some sort. The lore behind Versus is pretty strange and I don't know how to further get into it without spoiling the film. But it's weird and deals with reincarnation.

@EuphoricBliss35 It's easier to be a dick, I imagine. On brand for this fanbase.

All right I'll include everyone on this. I looked it up.
Hes from a 2000 movie called versus. Heres what the wiki says:
"There are 666 portals on Earth that connect this world to the other side which are concealed from human beings. However, there are some who are aware of their existence and are willing to locate and open the gates of the portals to obtain the power of darkness for their own use. Somewhere in Japan, there exists the 444th portal known as The Forest of Resurrection."
People there come back as zombies. A Convicted Prisoner known as Prisoner KSC2-303 escapes and is caught in the middle of it. He seems to be at an almost Ash level of skill in terms of power. Actually seems like a fun movie, might watch it later.
Thank you for this, I couldn't get back to anyone because of work. But I highly recommend it, the movie is awesome and a cult classic. I'm amazed no one else here has heard of it.

Why on earth do you think the entity would be interested in him, assuming you want him as a survivor? A martial arts and marksman expert doesnt seem like the typical victim to me. Or do you want him as killer?
Are you a fan of the film? I think he fits fine. He took Ash and Bill. He'd fit in perfectly in DBD.

So the jist of all these rants is... don't play DS becouse he can shoot you which apparently doesn't need any skill.... Erm OK what about sharpshooter shots? Don't play DS becouse we can't loop him like other killers.... Shouldn't you be able to play what you want?
Nothing the killer do involves skill apparently. I honestly don't even know what these people want. Believing something is unfun is valid I guess, but it's getting out of hand? Soon just standing in the basement and doing nothing will make you a laughing stock. Perhaps the developers need to widen things out a bit on both sides? Give killers more room to creatively use their abilities that fit within the context of the game. All the more reason why we need to push for changes instead of belitting people and manipulating them into playing how we want.

feel free to check my history, my views on Spirit have always remained the same, just like Deathslinger and PH. Killers who have free zoning or like Spirit who equate to a guessing game is not good game design and even if you "beat" a spirit, unless they are bad, you simply guessed correctly instead of outplaying them.
I never said you were dishonest in your views, I lurked here for the better part of a year, I would know that. I'm saying you tend to act in bad faith a lot, you insult people and rile them up instead of actually contributing to a discussion. That's something I am pointing out, I am disinterested in your opinions on Spirit or Deathslinger. How you feel about them is your business.

Did some popular survivor main streamer tell everyone to throw the game against Deathslinger or am i missing something?
This is what i call nursing a killer because this is what survivors were doing to nurse to get her nerfed (and succeeded) literally running to her and just farming each other in front of her for points and all being killed or quitting.
Almost every game today someone has quit the second they see me or they don't bother doing gens and just farm. The few times this didn't happen was against swf sweat squads that i lost against because they did gens and just treated it like a normal game.
Nobody uses D-slinger in the tournament because he is weak, so why the sudden salt fest?
I have said it a thousand times and I'll say it again, when it come to killers we have created this unhealthy and toxic culture around them. If we aren't shaming them for tactics, add ons, or perks we're pulling insane crap like this. It's weird. The developers has to balance around these behaviors. Definitely not good for anyone in the long run.
