Doesn't Weave make them drop their item too? Without Franklin's or addons to drop items, that would give a blip of information. It would also cause exhaustion. I agree that it needs another perk/addon to combo with it well, but it can still be useful alone.
No, weave doesn't force a survivor to drop the item. It shows aura reading if a survivor is near a dropped item, and causes oblivious if a survivor picks up a dropped item.

all of them skill checks, pallets, hallucinations, etc
I think you're confusing addon effects with base kit. The fake pallets for example requires certain addons. MOST of docs addons are centered around adding various effects to the madness.

Probably talking about how his hallucinations is shown to doc and periodically screams.
I know doc hallucinations show for survivors, but I thought they only show to Doc himself when using certain addons. As for screaming... that's the basic effect of T3 madness. Are we suggesting to ditch the madness status effect?

It’s one of those perks that needs another perk to truly synergize and get true value , but with both together personally I think it’s too much. The fact that it gives permanent aura reading as long as you’re within range and also works on slugged survivors is too much imo. I think it should be changed to not work on slugged survivors and either 1. Decrease the aura range or 2. Increase aura range but only work as long as the item has charges in it. Once charges are gone, aura reading stops.
People love to say “just take the item to a corner of the map easily countered” but that’s not easy. That requires you to spend time going back to find the item (assuming you don’t go down in chase) which reveals you to the killer, pick it up, (which then makes you oblivious) and run it to a corner or the map. Then when you put it down in the corner you’re revealing your location again. So now you gotta hope you get away from the item before the killer gets to you. Thats a lot of time spent off gens and trying to avoid the killer finding you again, with no terror radius to warn you. Also this needs survivor cooperation which is non-existent in solo Q. The only way to “counter” it is to activate its power by going near and picking up the dropped item, which puts you on the killers radar.
I can fully get down with adding limitations to the combo... but it would be nice to allow the perk itself to function. With your idea of no charges=weave doesn't work, you got rid of the only time survivors would actually ditch an item... when it's used up and gets replaced. What changes can be made to make Weave function by itself?

What passive abilities are you talking about.

Okay and? If something weak when combined with another thing is broken then it does not matter if that one thing is weak if when combined with another perk it's broken. Going back to my example it does not matter that the hypothetical perk I gave does nothing unless you use it for all four perk slots, the effect is still incredibly strong.
The entire point of this thread was Weave by itself. I'm not trying to argue the strength of a combo. If I say it's super duper amazing broken if combined with stuff and agree with you... can we then get to the topic? The trigger for this perk basically requires survivor cooperation or for me to tunnel someone so their item ends up on the ground. Can you reasonably think of a scenario where this perk functions by itself?
-
@EmpireCity830 said:
I feel like just changing it to give aura reading for 60 sec then item disappears would be fine.
Just so I understand, you're saying weave should show auras and delete an item. What would realistically trigger the perk?
-
@Sarrif said:
Let's say survivors had a perk where the only way to counter it was for the killer to go to the basement for a minute and just wait around and until they did that their aura was permanently revealed. Let's say this perk somehow took up four slots as well, would that be okay balance wise?
That would be a terribly underwealming survivor perk if it took a basement camping Bubba to function, lol
Edit... reread your comment and saw my misunderstanding. My point being, the perk by itself is almost entirely useless since it requires survivors to willingly ditch their items. Is there any scenario where weave by itself would be functional? Not even GOOD, just... work.

Just made a small post about weave and franklins… I got some (guessing killer mains) people seeming to get real defensive about the build. The build is a bit busted and especially during this event on top of all that
Weave in general does seem like it was meant to be used with that exact combo, or with an addon that makes survivors drop their item. Can you honestly think of any other time survivors would be dropping and picking up items?
-
By the extra stuff, are you referring to the various effects his addons give?

Just an FYI, there was a recent change on the Offering/game info screen where it's now randomised. So it used to show who brought what offering but now its in random order. I don't know why they did this and didn't advertise it because I've seen heaps of people saying they didn't realize and have been targeting people who don't bring Cobbler only to see afterward that they did. I was BM'd like mad in one game, and a survivor saw and I guess figured the killer had good reason to do so cos they joined in (reported both), and only thing I could think was that they assumed I was the one who brought the map offering (per the info page).
Didn't know they did that. Good to know I guess, although I never really BM anyone.

@Kaitsja said:
I see far more triple/quad slowdown builds than I do quad gen rush builds.
Part of that problem is that there's a big disconnect between perceived gen speeds, and actual gen speeds. There's also the fact that Killer is far weaker in the early game than they are in the mid-game.
Fact of the matter is, there's a lot of perks for killer that are simply too niche, map-dependent, or simply bad. As an example, Forced Hesitation is a very niche perk. While its effect is strong on paper, you're mainly getting value out of the perk against flashlight squads. The same applies to Starstruck, or Mad Grit, but against sabo squads.
As another example, Cruel Limits is very map-dependent and requires you to be in chase with a survivor when a generator pops.
Rapid Brutality is an example of a perk that's just bad. In exchange for no longer being able to gain Bloodlust, you get 5% haste for 10 seconds after hitting a survivor with a basic attack.
It's no coincidence that the best perks for killer are ones that give you Aura Reading (Lethal, BBQ, Nurses, etc.), can be used mid-chase (Bamboozle, Enduring, Spirit Fury, Superior Anatomy, etc), or hinder the Survivors progress on gens (Pain Res, Ruin, Dead Man's Switch, Grim Embrace, etc.). If a perk doesn't fall into one of these categories, it's either niche, map-dependent, or bad.
On the survivor side, it's also not a coincidence that the best perks are ones that can be used mid-chase to grant you distance (Sprint Burst, Lithe, Dead Hard, Background Player), second-chance perks (DS, Off The Record), work passively in the background (WoO, Distortion), or perks that speed up gen progression.
As an example of a bad perk for survivors, Lucky Star. This is just a pointless perk. You get Off The Record without the endurance, you can see survivors auras and the aura of the closest generator for 10 seconds after exiting a locker. Bond already exists, and generator locations come with knowledge. It's basically multiple perks rolled into one, but due to the activation condition and the fact that it only lasts 10 seconds, there's just never any reason to use the perk.
A class system would work under 2v8, but not under the main game mode. Say you split perks up into classes. You've got the Gen Jockey, The Healer, the Runner, and then a fourth class that I can't think of right now. You ignore the runner and focus on eliminating one of the other three knowing they're guaranteed to not have exhaustion perks.
I feel like the idea wasn't to limit each person into being a "class" but rather the perks. Assigning each perk slot to only fit a certain class of perks so you won't have people stacking 1 type of perk and would instead encourage a balanced build.
-
Just had it happen to me. Was about to report it when I saw the thread. Was just hoping the survivors knew I wasn't hacking or anything.
It let the game end about a minute after EGC timer ended...
-
I just like not having to worry about hook deadzones

It's cuz survivor have to split the bloodweb slots between not only offerings but also items.

I don’t see the insta heal as very helpful when it exposes you, so you’re still a one shot, just not an injured one shot. Still super risky
30 second Exposed is pretty easy to outlast. Had it pop for me against a Legion, then just stuck near main building while blocking the window behind me. Resulted in all good things for the team and 0 benefits for the killer.

I mean you might find it to be a frustrating playstyle, but it rarely wins. 99% of the time when my swf and I do this we dont touch a gen. We are just trying to play for chase and laughs.
So you prolong things as long as possible since the other side can't end the game without just DCing.
Even if yours is not a winning plan, doesn't make it less incredibly annoying. It's the equivalent of punting a football into the parking lot anytime you get the ball. The other team is going to win... but they didn't show up to play fetch.

Keep in mind that while he does have alot, each one is on quite a long cooldown. He'll be able to do like 1 of each power per chase where other Killers can use theirs way more often.

I'm not saying that CoH shouldn't have been nerfed and that Killers should've just equipped Shattered Hope every single game. I'm saying that "just use calm spirit" isn't a tangible or sensical argument because "just use x to counter y" could apply to a bunch of problems in this game.
However DBD isn't a counterpick game and even if a perk can be nullified or countered by another one, that doesn't mean the perk in question doesn't have any issues when it comes to balance and should be looked at.
I can agree to that. Fortunately the devs have included non-perk solutions. Before distortion became meta and BBQ was in every game, it was pretty common to hide in a locker or behind a gen for afew seconds.
As for calm spirit though... I feel like people completely forget about how much this perk is countering. Even before UW was a thing, Infectious fright was very popular. Anytime you see an Oni, you can almost guarantee he's running Infectious. Iron maiden is pretty common on Huntress and Trickster. You have Friends til the end as well as Spies from the shadows... Doctor also isn't the only killer making survivors scream.
-
Ignoring the fact that it requires a perk to do what survivors can do base kit for a second (break a totem), please keep in mind the release dates. Circle of healing was introduced October of 2021 while shattered hope was released June of 2022. So... when circle of healing was in its prime, you think people should have countered it by using a perk that didn't exist for another 9 months?
Imagine if it required a perk for a survivor to cleanse totems. Would devour hope become problematic? Should I insist you bring the totem breaking perk so you can counter it by breaking 5 totems? That's what shattered hope did... You got to turn off a totem and make the survivor boon a different totem instead.
Survivors got a taste of having to break 5 totems to counter 1 perk with OG hex undying. Why do you think anyone would want to do that again WHILE being required to use a perk slot for it?

And the thing is people are not seeing it for what it is. They say "well what about charms. What about non-white characters. What about David. Should we remove them too because they could be used for racist and homophobic reasons???". Like that's not the point. The point is the Unknown is not even human. The unknown is not a trans person.
However, people can use the cosmetic mix match to create a caricature of a trans woman that is used by transphobic people (go to my previous post for examples). It is used to target people of a community to make them feel unwanted and to make them look like a freak. If BHVR had someone on their team that is in charge of looking out for things like this before they release cosmetics, characters, etc - then this whole thing could have been avoided by making it a linked cosmetic. I don't think it the outfit should be removed - but I don't think it should be used in a way that can target and create a hostile environment for anyone.
How would they go about linking it for the ppl who didn't buy all 3 pieces? Do those ppl just get gifted the rest of the set?

It's mostly because Calm Spirit doesn't do anything if the killer isn't running Ultimate Weapon or is playing Doctor. And most killers who run Ultimate Weapon won't run aura reading on top of it, and vice versa. So no matter what, one of those two perks will be a dead perk. Assuming they're running any of them and not just 4 slowdowns, in which case it's 2 dead perks.
Ultimate Weapon is unique in that it also bypasses Off The Record, which is a perk even non-stealthers use to avoid being tunneled. So tunneling killers can use it to find people closer to death hook.
Though I guess Calm Spirit does prevent crows from being alerted, so it's nice for stealthers regardless of if the killer is running UW. But a lot of killers don't pay attention to crows.
Calm spirit counters all scream perks, not just UW and Doc. It also counters crows.
-
Great... we gonna get a repeat of the Blackface Bubba incident?
-
Pretty sure Huntress is left handed.
-
No one likes being stuck in the lobby as killers dodge over and over. The same reason ppl have been asking for prestige levels to be hidden.
-
I feel comparing him to Huntress is abit much. Unlike Huntress, he has to work with having both a cooldown on his ability and hit ppl with it multiple times to do dmg.
As for his teleport... keep in mind that he not only doesn't have control of the teleport locations, they can also be shut down by the survivors. This makes it plenty fair to have imo.
-
I've seen ppl do this stuff and post it to their YouTube. They can also change their character model, so some ppl will try to make it look like their TEAMMATES are hacking by swapping characters and cosmetics real quick.

This post makes me remember when a certain cheat program became pretty prominent. It allowed you to see what killer you were going against, as well as what perks they had. This was ALSO back when killers could swap characters in lobby, so I started doing the last second switch as killer. I'd pretend to pick Doc, then find a whole lobby of ppl with calm spirit... Apparently it was pretty common for ppl to type in chat who the killer is at lobbies.

I mean I'm pretty sure if you got the right gunpowder to force ratio someone could potentially create a workable replica of something that fired a spike attached to a chain from a barrel. It would most likely be completely ripped out of the persons hands after firing it though unless it hit something before it reached the end of the chain and maybe even taking a few fingers with it.
The amount of force needed to fire the spear would no doubt shatter the user's shoulder first.

I can see the annoyance; I'm just not one to believe the perk can't be countered. It's annoying how if you bring something like I'm all ears, it's opening up to losing the survivor entirely due to 10 seconds of no scratch marks. I know gearhead works, but gearheads really not that good. I know perks and add-ons for exhaustion exist but I don't play huntress and I'm pretty sure none of those perks are very good either.
Gearhead is probably the best perk for deleting distortion tokens. If you want to ignore the actual auras it gives you BEYOND that, that's your call I guess. You can run a 2nd aura read WITH it. If distortion is hindering your use of BBQ though, gearhead is actually a good alternative. You can look around while carrying someone to the hook to figure out where a target is and by that point, gearhead would've chewed through everyone's tokens.
As for exhaustion, mindbreaker is a pretty decent one with super easy application. Exhaustion doesn't wear off while the survivor is running, so they have to find time mid chase to stop running for them to make use of their exhaustion perks. Toss this on a stealth killer and you don't have to worry about a survivor Sprint bursting away from a gen.

it does have a cooldown its called needing to injure in order to proc it, which means needing to find someone first.... and since you dont see aura and distortion also hides scratch marks your left with hearing footsteps... gearhead would work but considering you need to find them first dosent really do much on most killers.
and gear head is active for 30 seconds and shows there aura for 8 a proc, distortion hides your aura for 10 seconds PER token so you would need to get them to hit 3 good skill checks within 30 seconds to melt 1 token... most will hit 2 good and maybe 1 great within that time frame, thus losing maybe 1 stack. per activation of gear head.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3663444#Comment_3663444
yes wanting a perk to be fair is silly.... your comparing blinds to information thats not even a fair comparison to begin with dude. feels like your just being petty for the sake of being petty.
not "op"
unless a killer has a full aura build distortion gives you pretty much perma aura immunity for the match "nOt oP" yeah sure pal whatever you wanna go with, you dont need blinds but killers 100% need information. its a 1 v 4 im sure you can survive without your blinds that already do pretty much nothing to smart players, look at the pickrates. lightborn has like what a 3-4% pickrate while distortion has a 9%, lightborn loses its value when your good at the game and know how to avoid blinds without it, distortion has value no matter the skill level....this is a wild comparison and just feels petty.
Needing to hit someone is a condition, not a cooldown. Your idea of this NOT countering with this argument falls on the basis NOW that the killer fails to find ANYONE. The distortion tokens typically get chewed up while the killer is chasing your teammates (not exactly the most useful use for distortion), and said tokens are entirely used by the time the first survivor is downed. This means that if the killer looks around at gens while carrying his first chased survivor to a hook, he can usually see 3 auras whether they had distortion or not (assuming they weren't completely useless and too afraid to touch gens).
Seriously, try slotting it in and see for yourself. Something tells me you haven't actually done that and are debating on theory rather than experience with the perk. Gearhead's ability to chew through stacks is REALLY good.
-
@OneAutumnLeaf said:
I mean with gear head it works off injures, its active for 30 seconds, so basically you would need the person with distortion ON a gen hitting great skill checks, and after losing the first stack they would realize you have gearhead then counter play it by staying off a gen during the duration or just sitting on it not caring anyways. gearhead is great sure but it requires them to be on a gen hitting a good skill check just to get 1 stack gone, aint really a reliable counter if im being honest.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3663276#Comment_3663276
That's a HUGE very reliable counter, lol. Gearhead has no cooldown. The idea of just being totally unproductive for 30 seconds every time someone gets injured is insane. Typically if your halfway decent, you can keep gearhead constantly active by scoring another hit before the 30 seconds even wears off. By staying off gens anytime anyone gets injured, you're effectively throwing the game.
You're FORCED to do the 2nd option, which is stay on the gen and run out of stacks alarmingly quickly. By the time The first chase is over, no one that was being productive at all has any tokens left. Gearhead ALONE will strip them off in record time. The only counter is to hit ALL great skillchecks... which isn't very reasonable.
-
@Sava18 said:
Not op but one survivor perk shouldn't counter an entire class of killer perks so easily. I think it's pretty fair to think that. As of now you have to run all aura reading, use bad aura reading perks or have add-ons like c21 that can burn through it instantly but by then your already in chase with that survivor.
It was one of my problems with old IW as well, even if the killer ran the equivalent stridor it didn't do anything.
Imagine if killers had a good perk the consistently turned off exhaustion for survivors.
Gearhead actually works pretty well at getting rid of stacks. You don't need an entire loadout to do that. As for exhaustion, there are both addons AND perks that apply that.

Through the window next to the breakable door, going into the building, then down the stairs and through the doorway to the left. You can jump the railing at an angle for a fast vault, then go back up the stairs and repeat. It can be weakened, as HaunterofShadows mentioned above, though there's also a breakable wall that can strengthen it though this has only happened to me once. It's a simple loop but I've had killers give up on me while doing it, hence why I like it lol
Last time I had someone use that against me was when I was using Skull Merchant. Even with drones placed around it to speed me up and slow them down... still took afew loops to score a hit. I'd hate to imagine doing that as Ghostface.

I mean it should be fairly obvious that the addons on many killers are either trash, focus some random stuff and not the main power or are super situational and what not... Think about Demo, he has like 4 addons that affect his main power, the shred, and every single other addon is about the portals.
Yeah... and I wish they'd do an update on Demo's addons too. Either way, the Pig addons seem counter productive towards what the RBTs are meant for. They aren't exactly buying you time if you are chasing that survivor. It's like designing a Plague addon that applies mangled on survivors that you manage to fully infect if they are already injured. Why are you wasting time puking on an injured survivor that much?
