"Just dont play"
No, because the game is fun. Pic related.

Trapper - m1 gets punished in traditional looping
- the incentive to w game means that the opportunity for a trap to work is hindered as people would rather run to the other side of the map instead of to loop
wraith - m1 chase - weaker
- catch up is worse to body block
- lunge is a bit hindered
billy - catch up is worse
- curving is worse
- m1 chase is also hindered as a result of the previous point
nurse - precise hits that may have been only just achieved can be stopped
- w gaming is more powerful
huntress - raising a hatchet makes her slower than survs which makes w gaming away from loops more powerful
- strafing shots are also harder
myers - m1, gets #########
hag - catch up time when immerging from a trap is worse
- baiting traps is easier
- if the hag wants to chase even in the slightest, gl
docter - when a docter traditionally shocks a loop, he doesn't gain distance therefore you don't get anywhere with the ability
- default range of docter shock is worse for catching windows, etc.
bubba - much harder to close distance with chainsaw around loops meaning in most cases survs make the pallet or window instead
- gl with out chilly
Freddy - w gaming from a loops in bit easier
- bloodlusting is harder
- snares are worse
pig - m1 killer
- ambush is usless
clown - he kinda deals with it a bit better
- dodging routes with gas is easier
- slowdown from clown is a bit worse
spirit - ignores it
legion - splitting up against 5 hits are easier and hes a m1 killer
- mft is easier to activate
plague - throwing up is harder to land
- m1 killer when infected
- hugging loops against red vommit is easier for surv
ghostface - m1 killer
demo - baiting is harder
- opportunity for shred hits are harder
- hybrid m1 killer so gets punished when not shredding
oni - oni is fine if your good with him
slinger - least effected range killer
- w gaming still powerful
pyramidhd - running away from loops is too rewarding if the killer uses there power
- m1 is hurt aswell
blight - some loops are a lot harder if the blight isnt running speed
- blight needs to be more on point, any mistakes make w gaming from loop to loop more viable
twins - victors fine
- m1 is hurt however
trickster - raising blades is more punishable on the killer if the surv is w gaming
- with the amount of blades that needed to hit to kill the surv, hugging a loop is far too good
- w gaming hurts a lot, normally forces the killer to drop the chase
nemisis - hits not in t3 are a lot harder
- strafe tech is a lot harder which is very popular of a choice otherwise
- baiting hits is easier, windows, etc.
pinhead - pinheads kinda fine
- excesive chain use is hurt more
- landing chains may be a bit harder
artist - distance the surv can get after a killer misses a crow means that w gaming is a lot better
- leaving loops is better
- the distance a surv makes is greater which means killers muscle memory on hits through walls etc, is harder
onryo - do i have to say anything
- teleport is worse
- m1 killer
dredge - leaving loops is better for the surv making the rev mindgame kinda unusable unless the surv is cornered
- teleporting in chase in any capacity is also hindred
- m1 killer in other situation is also hindred
weskers - hes not effected that badly
- addons are needed a bit more
knight - guards are literally slower than the survivors unless its an assassin
- distance the guards normally stale for is worse
- w gaming is better
skull merchant - ingores it
singularity - overclock is harder to even use
- and the window to hit a survivor in a pod is harder too
6 killer dont really get hard countered by this perk and two of them are twins and skill merchant. it may aswell be 4 killers
and just to remind, this is all caused by one perk that punishes the killer for getting more pressure.
Interesting points. However:

A game of DBD may involve getting eliminated early, getting left on the ground, being unable to participate... these are the legitimate gameplay threats you face as survivor and they are the reason you are trying to escape.
Yes you earn blood points, ranks etc but the core of the game is to avoid elimination and non-participation. If either of these two things are triggering then DBD may not be the game for you.
To claim that these scenarios are nothing more than people out to ruin others fun is blowing things out of proportion.
"The only conclusion I can draw is that they do it to spoil the other person's experience." <- This right here is my point.
It can be fun to play the monster as depicted in the game, the killer can have fun doing it. It may not give tangible in game benefit but it can be fun. It can be fun to face such a challenge and trying your hardest to escape such a fate, its the fun of playing survivor.
I don't mind if someone really plays the killer role because hey its what I signed up for, to try and escape from a vicious monster.
Its fine not to like the gameplay, its fine to complain about the gameplay, but to assume that the gameplay exists purely to ruin your fun because you don't like it, so anyone doing it is out to purposefully ruin your fun...
(I.E. "The only conclusion I can draw is that they do it to spoil the other person's experience," or "killers going out of their way to play nasty for no reason other than spite"
Frankly that's BS and just a gross overreaction to the gameplay in question.
At the risk of sounding confrontational the only thing evidently spiteful here is your opinion of those who play in a way that you don't like.
I'll bite. What's 'fun' about it for killers?
-
Regardless of its own power (I can't comment on it myself as I don't even have it unlocked) it seemingly dwarfs the other haste perks available.
Dark Theory only gives you a 2% boost, is only valuable when the killer is at risk of snuffing it, and requires considerable strategy and/or luck to get any value at all.
Hope only activates once all the generators are finished, so you are running a 3 perk build for the majority of the game.
Other perks like Blood Pact require you to heal and stay within a certain radius of a survivor to get any benefit.
MfT on the other hand doesn't have these restrictions. You don't have to go out of your way to activate it or really change up your playstyle. You only have to be injured, which is naturally going to happen. It doesn't restrict you from using exhaustion perks either. You can choose to get as much benefit out of MfT as you want and then still DH, Lithe, etc. Out of all the options it is the perk you are reliably going to have active the most. Not to mention you can 99 a heal and negate the 1 shot risk. I struggle to really see a downside or limitation, which is something all the other perks mentioned have.
It seemingly goes completely against BHVR's design philosophy to introduce a perk such as this. It trumps all the other haste options available by a mile. So I agree it needs a change. God knows the game has enough redundant perks as it is.

Well yeah it is very easy to infer and assume, that's why people do it.
I'm not happy with what happened in that game so I'll justify my unhappiness by imagining the worst about my opponent.
I use that assumption to attach a bunch of emotional imperative to game mechanics and demonize anyone who doesn't meet the standard of play that I've set for myself.
That's basically what the OP has done with examples of the play they think is not ok. The very first lines state this "My experience with this event has been awful the last few days. I main survivor, and pretty much more than half of my games have involved killers going out of their way to play nasty for no reason other than spite."
According to the OP... spite is the only reason someone would play like this.
Just to point to one popular example, camping Bubba. Bubba hook defends well, very well and defending your hooks as bubba can win you a lot of games for various reasons so its a common play.
Does it mean your opponent is a horrible person out to ruin your fun?
Could it be someone just playing into the strengths of their chosen killer with no further malice beyond a desire to win as easily as possible?
The answer is you don't know, but you can easily assume the answer you want and feel self justified in your anger about it.
Because lets face it playing to the strength of your chosen killer in order to win as easily as possible doesn't make someone spiteful, but we'll imagine they are because we didn't like it and anyone doing something we don't like must be spiteful... right?
You are blowing this way out of proportion.
What does the killer get if they choose to bleed someone out instead of hooking them? What do they get if they beat me on the hook? What do they get if they choose to facecamp one survivor from the beginning of the game, ignoring the other survivors and leaving generators undefended?
They don't get points. They don't come any closer to 'winning'. So why do they do it? The only conclusion I can draw is that they do it to spoil the other person's experience. Nobody wants to be BM'd for playing a game. Nobody wants their cakes to be wasted and to only be able to play the game for a minute and a half before being facecamped and forced to sit on the hook and wait to die. Nobody wants to wait four minutes to bleed to death when there are hooks everywhere around them. There is NO logical reason other than spite. So why shouldn't I disdain the killers that play that way?
It's annoying that I need to emphasise this again, but I am NOT talking about typical gameplay. Playing to a killer's strengths is absolutely fine. Playing to win is fine. If it comes to a stage where you need to camp for a kill, fine. Tunnel someone out, fine. Playing to ruin the other player's experience while having it contribute nothing to your overall strategy is just uncalled for. It's bad manners. And unfortunately (I wish I was exaggerating) it is all I've run into. I've actually uninstalled and don't even know if I can be bothered to come back, and that's saying a lot during an event.

Straight forward eh? Well yeah, because that's my normal. Not yours or anyone else's. When I go into a game it's with 4 random people I don't know and will never meet. I don't know what your 'normal' is and frankly don't care. Survivor rules... 😂
TIL me hoping for killers to not slug me to death, facecamp from the beginning of the match or beat me on the hook as a common courtesy during an event is me whipping out the survivor rulebook

Im sure people have their reasons for playing like they do. Im not defending it. But comp games generally involve, tunneling and slugging, and that is playing to win.
im stating a fact, if it's within the rules its allowed. The sooner you understand not everyone who plays dbd believes in playing a certain way the sooner you'll enjoy the game more.
Well you've said you want a "normal" games "I want every game to be treated like a normal game!"
Then you also state "I'd jump head over heels for an actual farming killer, although the last one I had betrayed us with NOED and Blood Warden and left me questioning my own existence."
So which is it?
This is why I'm convinced you're not actually reading what I'm writing. I am not talking about typical camping and slugging. I am talking about slugging someone till they bleed out instead of hooking them, facecamping them from the beginning of the match or beating them on the hook over and over. None of these things whatsoever increase your chances of winning, nor are they competitive strategies. Yet I am running into matches over and over again where these BM tactics are frequent, and it's ruining any semblance of fun the event could have for me. So, I ask again, why are you defending them? I guess you take no problem with all 4 survivors standing in the exit gate and teabagging till they get forced out either, because it's 'within the rules' for them to do so. An action doesn't have to be bannable for it to degrade the gameplay experience.
When I said I'd go 'head over heels' for a farming killer, I was saying that to emphasise that the killers I've been getting have been outright toxic. I'd gladly take a game where the killer just lets us trade hooks and we all get a big payday over the consistent matches I've been playing right now where the killer goes out of their way to be as toxic as possible, from the get go, not giving a damn about winning but about instead spreading toxicity. I want to play a typical game. Farming gets boring quick. But there's no point in playing a game where the opposition go out of their way to BM you at every turn for just wanting to play at all.
By your logic, I'm supposed to just accept that the killers I verse want to ruin my games, through how there is hardly any killer interaction (facecamping), being forced to wait till I bleed out to keep my points (being slugged to death) and being BM'd (beaten on the hook), and then just keep playing? Why should I bother? I hardly make any points from these games and there is little incentive otherwise for me to play when the killer wants to be toxic. Seriously, why bother?

Yes i am, you want a "normal" game. Some people normally play to win and don't care for your etiquette or what your version of "normal" is
Playing to win doesn't involve facecamping the first survivor you hook. Nor does it involve slugging them till they bleed out or beating them on the hook over and over. At the very least, this behaviour is completely uncalled for and I don't know why you're defending it. It ruins the game for everyone involved.
And I thought I wanted everyone to jump on the farm fest, not a normal game? Which is it?

I am playing normally, you're just expecting because there is easy BP that everyone should jump on board the farm fest.
Im done with the challenges, the 4 characters i play have everything they need unlocked. Why do i need to jump on board this cuddle farm fest?
I treat survivors exactly the same every game, as victims not friends.

This is pretty much the case.
If there was a way to communicate prior to the match starting, "Hey wanna farm?" type of deal then it would be a lot easier. Seeing as there isn't a way it's a 50/50 shot. Even on the survivor side you might have one person that doesn't want to farm and just play the game while 3 others want to.
Just how it is. Treat every game like a normal game unless there is some notion that it will be a BP farm.
I'm not expecting to farm every game at all. I want every game to be treated like a normal game! It's just that the killers I seem to keep running into don't want to do anything other than run survivors out of the game as quickly as possible or stare at the hook from the get go while rubbing it in the survivors' faces. Event or no event, this 'playstyle' is really offputting and kills any enjoyment I could get out of matches. May as well be doing something else.
I'd jump head over heels for an actual farming killer, although the last one I had betrayed us with NOED and Blood Warden and left me questioning my own existence.

Toxicity spreads.
You have a survivor dealing with that, then finally breaks and does it to other people playing killer.
Also, the 100% blood point incentive on killer is causing alot of non-killer players playing killer for the points. They arent skilled, so they play scummy.
I don't get this mentality. Why spread the toxicity to people who don't deserve it? All of my games have had the survivors play completely normally, all of them solo queue lobbies. I wish this community was better than that.
-
Okay, played three survivor games tonight:
A Spirit who wanted to farm, only to get us all on death hook and then kill us with NOED and Blood Warden
A Pyramid Head who tunnelled me out straight away, facecamping me on second hook till I died (made 6k)
A Myers who facecamped as soon as he got a hook (at five gens) and spent the next five minutes beating that survivor and then me on the hook before walking over the last survivor who was slugged over and over again. They also burned a survivor pudding.
I give up.

Had a 'farming' Spirit just now and it turns out she had NOED and Blood Warden AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

It’s not just the event, it’s players in general.
As a Killer main (occasional solo surv), I seen the same behaviour and play patterns I’ve seen in standard games recently. Disconnecting or giving up early, teabagging at the exit gate, BM during the game. I’m used to it by now, but when they wait for you at the gate and leave just as you go for the hit, it’s like “why man, why”.
I play fairly, I don’t slug for the 4K, I’d only camp when I’ve got less than 3 hooks and it’s the end game. I don’t really tunnel because, it’s just boring.
Many survivors will still treat you like trash regardless because both survivors and killers have a stigma for gen rushing and tunnelling/ camping. It’s doesn’t matter.
There being an event doesn’t matter. Some people don’t care. That’s the baseline. People in general are just trash and I say that as a blanket statement for life, not just here. I’m always great full for the good apples out there.
Unfortunately I think I have to agree with you. Some people just want to watch the world burn.

Just what this game needs, another way for players to commit suicide. No way people will abuse it.
If someone's going to give up and stop playing there's no way of stopping them. This change would just allow survivors that are being purposefully bled out on the floor to just get into their next games quicker without needing to DC. Getting bled out for 4 minutes straight should not be in the game by design.

I think she can do fine with a chase build, assuming you have decent add-ons. The purples all make her a beast in chase and the greens are pretty good as well.
Idk who thinks 3 genning from the start of the match is a good idea. 3 genning usually means nothing unless a survivor is dead. You can't really hold down 3 gens with 4 survivors alive if they are playing aggressively. It works if someone is being a potato and goes down with safe pallets still available to throw but even if they are all exposed they could be holding sprint burst and not care. Plenty of strong survivors don't even stop to heal if they are injured.
Really the ideal play is to hook someone and THEN 3 gen at that hook. But with SM they can just run up and trade unless you have lots of STBFL stacks.
Maybe it works vs. bad solo Q players but probably not against your average SWF on comms who are running prove and maybe have a BNP
Wait until you verse a SM running the same strategy and you'll see what I mean. I'd be inclined to agree with you if I hadn't run into it myself.

Killer perks that became meta last year? Already nerfed into pointlessness (See also: Eruption) while overpowered survivor meta perks that have been meta for six years like Dead Hard go unnerfed.
Red Forest has been reworked into another survivor sided map set due to how much clutter there is to get caught up on and so much for survivors to use to break line of sight.
That's not even getting into how overpowered SWF is and BHVR refusing to do anything to address that particular elephant in the room. Coordination is game breaking and BHVR doesn't care.
People keep saying this or that will kill the game but want to know what will really kill the game? BHVRs complete and utter apathy towards game balance.
I'm curious, how would you address SWFs? I don't see anyway to change them other to remove the ability to SWF from the game entirely, and if that happens the playerbase will drop off rapidly.
-
I did this (painstakingly) with Knight twice. First time 4k'd but for some reason only got brutal killer despite double pipping. Second game (with perks set out in the 'correct' order) 4k'd, merciless killer, double pipped, no trophy. Took me hours for nothing and was incredibly pissed.
-
Well I just got reported by a 3 man SWF saying I was abusing an exploit just by playing Dredge so I guess there is. I managed to claw the game back with one gen left and they said I was suddenly turning invisible and abusing an 'extremely well known' exploit. Take from that what you will, it's the first I've heard of it but wouldn't be surprised if BHVR have just randomly broken another killer again.

I've been playing DBD for a few years now. I got in on PS+ but never played it until after Oni came out. Bubba was my first main. Old Bubba. It went as well as you might think. I've seen DS when you can do a gen for 60 secs with immunity, classic DS-UB/Small PP build, Surge/Jolt couldn't hit gens already regressing, original Rundying, Freddy being stupidly strong and braindead---I've been around for a while.
But over these years, the community has continued to wear me out more as time goes on.
Terrible Experiences
I have been told to unalive myself, specifically by burning myself alive because I simply played a killer the person disliked. Nothing more, just playing someone they disliked. I have an opinion they don't like? I'm now a "c----sucking f---" Joining this are various messages filled with calling me slurs, alongside other insults both typical of DBD (tunneller, camper, etc) and downright childish (trash).
"Just ignore it"
Sound simple, doesn't it? Sorry, but I find it hard to overlook there are people out there telling me to end my life simply because they're mad at a video game. It's not simply one person who acts like this either. If it was, it'd just be an easy report and I hope I can forget about it.
"Turn off messages"
I did. By then the damage had been done, but I did do it.... but then I started getting friend requests from the likes of "trashtunneller." I'm on console btw, where name changes aren't free. People are actually paying money to do this.
Disable friend requests too? What's the point then? Why not just play a single-player game? I like talking to people. I want to make friends with them! I met some of my friends through dbd. It's just sad, because I played CoD back in the day and even that wasn't this bad, at least in my personal experiences.
Lack of Empathy and entitlement
It's ridiculous how this community can treat each other at times. Let's say my experience was a series of unfortunate encounters with a vocal minority, shall we? Every day, I listen to people complain and complain and complain. It's insane.
It's the same thing. Killers tunnel. Survs gen rush. X killer/add-on/perk/item is OP. Oh, you disagree with me? Sorry, you're an idiotic X main that your opinion is irrelevant. Do you main one side? Your opinion is irrelevant, no matter what basis you may have because you don't play the other side.
It's constant bickering, attempting to marginalize each other, and seemingly having complete disdain simply for having thoughts/opinions on what's ultimately a piece of software.
Purpose?
Why am I even writing this? I don't know. I'm just... tired of it all. I like this game. I really do. Despite its issues, I like it. Despite what I've said, there are many in the community that I do like! I've spoken to content creators that are genuinely wholesome people! For every wholesome interaction, I get 5 messages telling me my mother should've aborted me.
Maybe I just want to vent somehow? I don't know. I'm mentally exhausted just thinking about it.
All I can say is that having played since Pig released I've been there more than a few times. Not had anywhere near the degree of abuse you've gotten (although several awful experiences with friends met through the game) but I suppose that's just the roll of the dice. I'm sorry you're getting all of that. Taking a break like many others are saying might help. It usually helps me.

How is limited timed cosmetics greed? Its just good business. Basicly saying ok we are done with this wave that is now out lets start on new cosmetics. Now yeah i get that having the old cosmetics always around won't take much but when does that stop. 3 years down the line when Feng has 500+ cosmetic sets with all avaliable at the same time? its overwhelming especially to new players who are coming into the game.
BHVR won't turn around on the limited cosmetics because its good to rotate things in the shop to entice spending. this doesnt make the company greedy it makes the company smart as they arn't creating this game out of the goodness of their heart they are doing it to make money and this is a great incentive to get a boost to income. The more income they get the better licence deals they can strike and the more money they can put back into the game.
It is no different to "limited time deals" that are only avaliable for a set period of time and once its gone its gone.
I wonder how many people who complain about these limited cosmetics actually want to pay out for the cosmetics in the first place. or if your just hoping they get very cheap or are just waiting for them to go to irry shards meaning free?
If your not willing to pay for a cosmetic thats fine but at the end of the day its a cosmetic. doesnt matter if you own it or not and it doesnt matter if the cosmetics are avaliable for 1 week or 1 year. There is NO Fear of Missing Out because everyone has the oportunity to buy the cosmetic during that set period. If your unable to then that isnt at fault of behaviour because they are not limiting who can buy the items just saying that they are only on the store for a set period of time. and even if you do miss out you can just get them next year.

Everyone always says they should stop working on releasing new cosmetics and concentrate on fixing bugs, which is a false equivalence. Those are completely different jobs within the company, same as a restaurant. The janitor doesn't cook your food nor does the waitress... So people who say such things about gaming companies, well... The analogy is to try to get you to understand that you don't want the art department fixing bugs, they more than likely don't know how.
I never said that the art department should be improving the game instead of doing what they're paid to do. I said that the current state of the game makes me feel as though cosmetics and monetisation are prioritised more than the gameplay experience itself. That's not the fault of the teams themselves (likely) but the company as a whole who want to have DBD generate the most profit possible even at the cost of player experience and enjoyment. This retroactively added limited-time BS being a prime example. And I'm much less inclined to overlook it when updates release buggy and sometimes in an unplayable state, even following a PTB.
It makes it harder for me to appreciate the efforts of the artistic team as a result, which is a shame because I feel that the one aspect of this game that absolutely shines is its artistic liberty when it comes to killers, maps and so on.

Which brings me back to people need to learn how to control themselves.
The blame should be with the company behind the practice in the first place, not the consumer. Stances like that allow these practices to be implemented and grow bolder in terms of monetisation.

Yes, because at restaurants the waitress cooks your food and the chef refills your coffee. Artists, quality control, the janitor who cleans the bathroom. Everyone at BHVR is interchangable and can totally do every job in the company.
...What are you talking about?
-
@thrawn3054 said:
Who cares? No seriously why does anyone care? So many people act like they are being robbed by limited time cosmetics. If fomo is actually effecting anybody they need to grow up already.
Why do you think BHVR would care enough to implement this practice 5+ years after the game has released?
Because it's effective. Especially on people with poor impulse control that will be drawn to buying outfits specifically because they are only available for a limited time. It's predatory and does absolutely nothing to benefit the game other than make the devs even more money. The problem is much more difficult than just telling those people to 'grow up'. There's a reason why it works so well and has continued since Halloween last year.
-
When I saw the new RE skins fell under the 'LNY collection' I was worried they were gonna pull this BS with them as well.
Thankfully that's not the case, but I get the feeling that's because of Capcom, not BHVR easing off on this 'practice'.
It really shouldn't frustrate me but it does. Why is this a thing now? Does the game somehow not make enough money charging £8+ for a single outfit? Really makes you feel like BHVR are just trying to get as much money out of you as they can now through FOMO rather than improving the game. DBD is feeling more like a storefront with a game attached rather than the other way round and that's very worrying.
-
I feel like she'd be more balanced if she worked like Oni in that her power has to be earned in some way. Make her a normal movement speed killer and have her earn blinks through chase somehow. If her blinks are meant to be based around breathing, maybe orbs are dropped whenever survivors run for a certain amount of time? I don't know, but I feel like Nurse having all her blinks available right at the beginning and being able to immediately begin recharging them right after is what makes her so unbalanced in the grand scheme of things. Maybe up her blink limit to 5 or 6 to compensate (you start the match with 0 blinks).

Because ultimately attempting to police it is futile. Stream sniping is something that is already incredibly difficult to prove and in addition an accusation that gets thrown about by lots of entitled streamers who think that just because they lost they have to have been stream sniped. Which means it's not going to work at all whichever way they decide to police it.
If you need considerable evidence to report stream sniping, good luck getting it. Snipers can easily hide their names/ use alt accounts/log out/have plausible deniability (eg: I was only stopping by before the match/I saw your scratch marks). Unless you literally get recorded evidence of your opponent sniping you it's a futile endeavour.
If you DON'T need considerable evidence to file a report, streamers will be able to get their opponents investigated on the suspicion of stream sniping, even when they have no evidence whatsoever that they did. It's just added paranoia to the already considerable paranoia and potentially bad attention that comes with versing DBD streamers. No need to add fuel to the fire.
It's a lose-lose situation, basically.

I think what people really need to consider isn't necessarily WHAT Behaviour are doing here, but WHY. Why is this limited time cosmetic practice only just starting to be added to the game? It doesn't benefit players in any way by making cosmetics less available or to gate them off behind a limited time pay wall. Obviously, it's to capitalise on the FOMO tactic. I'm seeing a fair number of people here saying that if FOMO is a 'you' problem, that they just need to get over it and move on.
But if it were that simple, the tactic wouldn't work, nobody would buy these limited time cosmetics and BHVR would be disincentivised to continue. In fact, the opposite has happened. We saw this at Halloween and are now seeing it again for the Holidays. Because BHVR are aware that those most vulnerable to this practice, in particular those with gambling problems, budgeting, people with poor impulse control, will continue to fall prey to it., and that it is incredibly difficult to overcome such psychological problems. It's easy to say for these people to just 'not buy' when you don't understand/can't relate to the difficulties they face. Something easy for you might be very hard for them. And this is something that BHVR plans to continue to take advantage of. There is a STRONG REASON why BHVR are implementing FOMO cosmetics, and it isn't to make the game better. Defending this as a result is something I cannot understand.
Things like this are a very, very slippery slope in terms of how monetised a game can get. If we as a community stay silent on such an issue, we risk more of these 'features' getting added to the game that only serve to make BHVR more money while exploiting vulnerable individuals, not to actually make the game better. I've seen this sort of thing happen to games I used to love like Overwatch and it sucks. I'd rather not let DBD (as much as I to be honest hate playing it) fall into the same money pit.

From another thread, a very detailed explanation why these tactics are "questionable" at best:
I've been seeing a surprising number of posts defending this kind of practice, while not really grasping what is actually happening with it. FOMO causes an irrational shift in prioritization by directly manipulating the availability of a purchase. This shift is something that your average person is able to maintain a rational perspective regarding, such as "i don't need it that much" or "I can wait for another chance later." The people it is designed to affect, are those with any form of impaired impulse control, or poor budgeting skills. There have been notorious GDC lectures outlining very specifically how to take advantage of these people and try to get as much money as possible out of them, with FOMO being one of the key methods. It is a known business practice that very specifically targets a vulnerable demographic.
Lets say you are faced with this situation, and have other more important obligations and are unable to make the purchase. A typical mind will think "oh well" and go without, but an affected person will start trying to readjust their budget to make it work, they may borrow money or even forgo financial obligations altogether as the need to commit to the purchase or lose out on it entirely outweighs their otherwise rational budgeting and prioritization. Its actually part of gambling addictions as well, as "the next bet can be the win that offsets all my losses" even after going into debt. It is a very real and well documented psychological effect.
The worst part is that, again, it has very minimal impact on most people. For many its not about losing the ability to purchase something like an ingame cosmetic, and they may not even see that as financially reasonable as it is. The problem is that it so very specifically preys on those who are vulnerable to the tactic, who are treated as whales (individuals who spend more than the average consumer, to make up for a lack of sales elsewhere) in the process.
Its an absolute shame how much this kind of practice is not only accepted, but even defended in the industry. There can literally be people bypassing anything from holiday gifts for loved ones to financial responsibilities such as paying their bills just to sell a few more ugly sweater model meshes and textures.
Thank you! It's so nice to see someone who understands the point of why this practice is such garbage and explain it so well too.

Definitely not. In my experience, it is a lot harder to play the game casually now and have fun at the same time. More often than not the other side is rubbing it in your face if you're losing and both sides typically bring in the best, borderline OP stuff to win. It's a far cry from the game I came to love all those years ago where I could play solo survivor for a few hours and come out feeling good.
-
I've had exactly this on PS5 today. Glad (well not glad but you know what I mean) I'm not the only one
-
I mean I don't think this game favors survivors at all the vast majority of the time but what you're asking for isn't exactly unreasonable (for the most part).
I could've sworn the gen time is already 90 seconds but honestly I don't think this needs to be touched. Especially with the variety of effecient gen regression killers have available right now.
I'm iffy on medkits but wouldn't mind a system where you are given a set amount of points when creating your loadout and having the more effective andrare items/addons costing more points (the best example I can think of, although very niche by now, would be COD BO2's multiplayer system where you could choose to have more than three perks at the cost of having no throwables, losing a secondary etc.). If you say bring a Purple medkit it can only have brown addons. Yellow medkits can run yellow addons. Browns can run green and iridescent. Hope that makes sense.
I'm also fine with Boons for the most part. Every Boon except CoH. It doesn't particularly matter than Boons can be relit when they rely on the killer getting near them for the survivors to get value out of them. CoH on the other hand relies on being as far away from the killer as possible to get value, and if hidden well enough can guarantee infinite heals. I think CoH should be given a token system and automatically snuff itself once enough healing is done within it. If not that, some measure to ensure it cannot get infinite value or be relit over and over with no penalty to the survivors.
Base kit Corrupt would be welcomed and to be honest wouldn't even be that much of a buff. It would be the equivalent of an 'Early Game Collapse' that the devs toyed with for a while. Reduces the likelihood of being genrushed, allows setup killers to, well, setup, and is only valuable if the killer does well in chase. Would not mind this at all.

Only a 99% winrate? Please. I can do that blindfolded playing Wraith with my only perk being Zanshin Tactics. Gonna need to bring something more impressive than that to the table.
(Disclaimer: I would provide proof but frankly I don't need to. I'm just THAT good.)

The concept is amazing but he just doesn’t have a good kit. He is the so easy to dodge and break free from and is the pure essence of a M1 killer. He can’t vault hit like huntress or spam like trickster. His add-ons are basic and his expose add on has a hitch that they have to be twelve meters from him. The maps almost all have so much junk that he will get his chain broken.
Just feels like he isn’t useful compared to the other ranged killers.
(I was forced to do his daily so I just had four annoying matches as him)
Walking backwards instead of forward when reeling someone in makes the chain significantly harder to break and get stuck on objects. It was one of the first big things I learnt while playing him. That may be why you were finding that the chain would break too easily.
The majority of his addons are lackluster but he does have some good ones. Rusted Spike is an addon I use a lot for longer healing times. The reload addons will always be good and reduced stun time addons can be good if situational (in particular when running STBFL to avoid Obsession hits).
If you can shoot someone through a window you will almost always guarantee a vault hit. Just make sure they're pressed right up against the window before you swing.
Dodging his harpoon can also be used to your advantage. This is called 'zoning'. If you ADS repeatedly and make the survivor think you are going to shoot they will run tiles less efficiently trying to dodge and allow you to close the gap quicker.
I would strongly recommend running STBFL if you ever give him another shot (pun not intended). It makes him feel much smoother to play and compensates for his long ADS time.

Regardless of whether or not we can determine the exact reason as to WHY the penalty was disabled, I doubt BHVR have done it just for a laugh. It wouldn't surprise me if there's something in the event's code that is causing crashes. I myself haven't experienced any and I am on console whereas others have experienced them. It's clear then that the cause of the crashes isn't something that can be easily identified and patched, so in the meantime the penalty has been disabled.
Obviously it's led to more DCs from players who just don't want to play at all (for some reason) but what is the alternative? You can't have players be locked out of playing the game through no fault of their own. In an ideal world the event would have launched without any problems at all but that's the situation we're dealing with. It's necessary, and the ironic silver lining here is that hackers no longer get to have their fun because players can instantly leave their games with no consequence. But I understand it's frustrating, I've had a few games go south for no reason other than someone giving up the second they get a map/killer they don't like. I can't stand those types of players.

I'd love to see a developer play killer in general. I would be very curious to see what they consider to be the optimal style of play and how well they would do with say, Trapper. Some of the balance decisions that have been made in the past (and decisions that for some reason continue to not be made - why is literally two thirds of the killer roster so weak) have me questioning if the developers even play their own game, or the version that we play, at least.
And I'm all for more controller viability. It certainly feels like a handicap when playing killer.

"The key with Trickster's main event is timing. You move too slowly while throwing knives for you to be able to hit survivors around objects like large rocks. You need to catch them in open areas or dead zones where little cover is available for the power to be effective. "
That is everything that has just been said in the post?
"It's incredibly strong if you manage to use it in that position."
I'm not here to defend just Trickster, I'm after what other killers have joke powers but I'm seeing so many posts not getting the point already covered here... Tricksters power is a joke power as there is nearly always something to hide behind, can we move on to other killers with joke powers?
"But you don't get to necessarily choose when you activate it unless you keep your power '99'd' and hold off on using it at all until you get survivors in an open area."
But once ready to use doesn't it just ... vanish? Even if you don't use it? That kinda makes it even worst? Why are we just talking about Tricksters joke powers???
"As for Trapper I've got nothing. He's one of the weakest killers because his power can be denied so easily, especially by SWFs in communication. Bloody Coil can disincentivise people from disarming your traps or at the very least make chases easier at the cost of your traps, but it is an iri addon."
Any other killers with joke powers? I'd have a look but just felt people would know
Trickster's power isn't a 'joke' providing you recognise when it is effective to use. That's the point I am trying to make. It's not automatically redundant just because it gets denied by a rock loop. It's strong to the point that for balancing purposes you are unable to save his main event exactly for when you would get max value out of it through natural gameplay. It really isn't a 'joke' because the survivors can counter it. You need to use it when survivors are in a position where it cannot be easily countered eg: where little cover is available, around a low cover loop, during an unhook, while someone is running to a window. Then it becomes one of the most lethal ranged attacks in the game. It is map dependent to an extent though as how useful it can be.
When I say 99'd, I mean keeping your power bar one knife hit off of being able to activate main event. You can't save a main event for later once you reach the threshold that allows it to be activated. You have a short window to use it and if you don't you have to build the power back up again. So by keeping the power level just under that threshold you can in theory have a main event ready for whenever it would be most effective (I don't know if you've ever played Myers but he is the closest example - you can '99' your stalk bar to have a Tier 3 ready, then pop it when you are close enough to a survivor to guarantee the insta-down). I say this is a bad idea because a Trickster not using his knives on the chance that he will be able to pop main event soon to make up for it means you're handicapping yourself for an unreliable payoff. It isn't worth it.
As for other killers, I guess Pig. Her RBT power is RNG dependent as to whether it can make a survivor's head explode or do practically nothing in terms of keeping them off gens in moments where you desperately need pressure. It's the only power in the game to my knowledge where you need to down a survivor to get any use out of it at all, and any remaining traps not yet used become useless once the doors are powered. It's a dice throw, and coupled with her poor Ambush ability it's no wonder why she's also considered one of the worst killers in the game.

Unless the game is changed on some drastic fundamental level tunnelling will always exist. You can disencourage tunnelling through specific perks like OtR and through coordinating on gens while the tunnelled survivor buys you time but you can't prevent it outright. If you, really, really want to win you tunnel out the first survivor you find. It means that the rest of the game is a 3v1 and far easier for the killer to manage. It doesn't make it justified - I don't understand why some killers want wins literally dropped into their lap rather than a close match where everyone involved has a good time (aside from maybe pips?) - but it means tunnelling will always exist.
Not to mention that it's a great way to piss off whoever you're tunnelling as they will make far less points and depending on their capability in chase and the map will be out of the game very quickly. Killers that tunnel for this reason are the same killers that play facecamping Bubba. It's not interactive or particularly thrilling if at all but they're not doing it for 'fun'. They're doing it to farm salt and irritate survivors just because they can.
Even after the huge mid-chapter which gave killer several major QoL buffs that had been highly requested by the community, I still saw tunnelling as frequently if not MORE than before. It was enough to make me uninstall the game for a while because of how disheartening it was. That confirmed to me that tunnelling isn't going anywhere. The best way to deal with it is to recognise when you can/can't assist a tunnelled survivor and when to crank gens. Learning map layouts and ensuring you can make the most out of a chase can make tunnelling punishing enough to throw the game completely out of the killer's favor. Sadly there is no way that tunnelling will ever stop being seen or complained about in DBD.
(BTW - I recognise tunnelling can be a valid strategy to regain lost pressure. It's far less frustrating when I can understand WHY a killer would decide to tunnel a survivor out. When a killer does this when they are already in a winning position and have a great deal of pressure that is when I get annoyed. It just comes off as sweaty to the point you want to ensure your opponents have as little fun as possible. Not saying you can't do it, but I don't understand it.)

Need to get good...
How do i remove those small objects for Trickster?
Stop swfs telling each other where my traps are with Trapper?
... is it just killers beginning with T that have joke powers?
The key with Trickster's main event is timing. You move too slowly while throwing knives for you to be able to hit survivors around objects like large rocks. You need to catch them in open areas or dead zones where little cover is available for the power to be effective. It's incredibly strong if you manage to use it in that position. But you don't get to necessarily choose when you activate it unless you keep your power '99'd' and hold off on using it at all until you get survivors in an open area. Which I wouldn't advise doing. If it happens to activate while you're in a covered area, try the best you can to steer the survivor out of it and try to main event them. If you use it pre-emptively they have no reason to leave the covered area.
As for Trapper I've got nothing. He's one of the weakest killers because his power can be denied so easily, especially by SWFs in communication. Bloody Coil can disincentivise people from disarming your traps or at the very least make chases easier at the cost of your traps, but it is an iri addon.

Is it obnoxious to grab an item from a "ripped" teammate before you leave?
tldr: I opened the gate a millisecond after the Rebecca got 3 hooked (waited incase of Blood Warden).
Ran to where she was hooked, grabbed her event flashlight, and booked it out.
EGC timer wasnt even half down and didnt wait for the killer to come to the gate or anything.
Do people actually find this "obnoxious" and "toxic"? Like, those items are pretty much non-existent in my games?
I try to play fair on both side but can't imagine this is actually toxic behaviour.. Or am I just missing something?
You're not missing anything. Waiting in the door for the killer to chase you out is obnoxious, grabbing a last-minute item in the EGC is not. I would advise you to take anything said in the endgame chat with a bucketload of salt. Tilted players are much more likely to be irrational and label almost literally anything as toxic, even if it makes zero sense.

Deathslinger - Bayshore's Lighter
A longtime keepsake of the traitorous Bayshore, Caleb pocketed it before leaving him and the Warden for dead at the hands of the Hellshire Gang. Although the lighter has long since produced it's final spark, it still stirs something fiery and all-consuming inside of him.
Speared attacks inflict Incapacitated on the survivor for 30 seconds. Survivors that break free from a spear are hindered by 7% for 30 seconds. When you aim the Redeemer, let out a angry roar that causes all Survivors within 24m of you to scream and reveal their locations. This has a cooldown of 45 seconds.
