We don't play or understand our own game, and how challenges like this affect it - BHVR, probably
Didn't you guys learn from the events you used to have that people complained about, and how they changed the way the game was played? This is that x50
ThEyRe ChALLeNgEs ThEYrE SuPpOsEd To Be ReAlLy HaRd - people in this thread probably
No, challenge shouldn't be something that can only realistically be done if you run into your SWF friends as a killer and message them on Steam, or you somehow manage to communicate by some miracle what challenge you're doing and see if the survivors/killer will farm. Otherwise you'll be stuck doing that same one, like unhooking 2 survivors during EGC, for literally ever. And if you're NOT playing with SWF so that one of you specifically gets them? Hell, someone might take that save unknowingly or just to spite you. And it won't. Be your. Fault.

"I don't camp when I'm the Killer and believe me I could if I wanted to because I can't see that well, so camping would be a good way to get kills"
Camping is a terrible way to get kills. If the survivors have any experience with the game, they will team up on gens and the game will be over with you walking away with the single kill you camped. Camping only works on overly-altruistic players who insist on getting that hook save even though their teammates have tried the same thing and are getting downed.
I mean... just playing devils advocate here...
If I play LF and camp someone, I can proooobably get them sacrificed with Ruin up. Guaranteed if at least 1 survivor looks for it/comes to save.
I can then pop NOED on, and down and hook/camp someone else out to guarantee 2 kills. I can probably do this every game. You can probably do it as several killers, though you want to grab any survivor making save attempts.
It's not really hard or terrible, and it's certainly not fun. I honestly rarely run into killer who camp like that, more like...proxy the hook. Sometimes they do it to easily hop into another chase, sometimes they do it to tunnel the survivor, though at least that gives them a chance.
-
Well yeah, but I WANT to abuse it. Obviously. It was really fun in most central buildings, where you could just drop 3-4 times before you'd get a hit off. You could draw it out even longer if there was a god window open as well, and you could hang out all game if there was a pallet or two.
Oh, but yeah, clearly didn't need a nerf. I mean the killer should honestly just see that I have BL and walk away lol :)
-
She got that MJ nose. I feel attacked when she looks straight at me and they look like they're gonna suck me up.
-
She's kind of like Legion, her power is inherently weak because survivors will simply pound gens out while not healing.
And that is exactly why the two of them need to be fixed to stop that. Reality is, yes, while you may think that 4 survivors staying injured would be easily punished, the fact is... playing the game like that, there simply isn't enough time. It's the same way good survivors often played against Nurse's back in the day - they'd simply stay injured and pound the gens because otherwise there's a good chance they were dead, especially if it was a slugging Nurse. You could do the same to Hillbilly, or any killer with heavy map pressure IF the survivors all know they're doing it. However, it is also...quite unfun for the survivors. Which again, is why it should be fixed for them both.
-
You do all realize that we're just accepting the idea that every killer should and will be balanced around a 50% or 2 kills per game, right? That doesn't make the game inherently imbalanced simply because it's not 45-50% across every rank. Jeez. It's amazing how people will use flat statistics and ignore the variables to justify their opinions. The game is a lot more complicated than that, yet you have this guy posting in this thread defending it with his life.

or all the server hits are complete garbage and giving more kills than killers truly deserve.
Yes. Just like all the hits were garbage without dedicated servers. Now they're all garbage with dedicated servers. Why don't we just give the survivors the p2p host so they can still be hit by unfair, garbage hits. Or maybe, just maybe, you were supposed to be :)
-
I don't want to be punished for when I want to ragequit, and I would prefer to sit here and justify my scumbagedness by saying things like "What if my power went out?" or "Dedicated servers suck!" Despite the fact that every other game that has any sort of ranked mode and no backfill punishes you for it.
My teammates disconnecting as survivor really needs to stop. I'm not having fun I'm going to ruin the experience of everyone else in the game because I want to have fun >:(
-
You know, I remember teabagging in Halo 3 when I used to play it back in the day. While it made me annoyed sometimes, and other times it made me laugh, one thing was certain: you just had to suck it up and accept it.
I don't condone toxic behavior in post-game chat, and it should absolutely be punished. I think that you could punish people for being toxic in game as well.
The reality of this game is it doesn't punish you at all for toxic behavior. Teabagging, sitting on the hatch for 10 minutes until the killer comes close so you can leap in infront of them, saying rude things in post-game, DISCONNECTING. There are so many things in this game that the devs do not address, going to far as to even say "it's fine to disconnect". That is why this game is as toxic as it is, because even the devs condone it, and do nothing about it, even now that they have dedicated servers. I have never, ever, seen a single game in my entire life, where the devs have the attitude of not punishing people FOR ANYTHING, and then defend both that attitude themselves and the selfish attitude that people who make excuses for punishing said behavior on these forums because "reasons". Even their report system is most likely a complete joke. It's all a big joke, really :)
If we just sit around, making excuses for why we can't punish people, nothing will ever change. Sadly, that's what a ton of people want, because a ton of people want to not be punished for being little boys who never learned to suck it up
-
Bro, they didn't care less about Nurse, and you think they're going to follow your guidelines? For a killer that is top tier and also dunks on survivors with very little effort, compared to Nurse? Goodluck lol. You're trying to justify not nerfing Spirit and telling them to fix the fundamentals like gen time, so they don't nerf Spirit. While I don't disagree that these changes are absolutely necessary, don't pretend like they're attached to Spirit.
-
It isn't worth it, it's even less worth it if you have a bunch of killers and therefore will take a long, long time to get BP to get the perks you want. If you already have the killers you play/will play with perks you want, and you like the bloody outfits, then go for it.
Just so you know the extra rarity as stated by the devs, is basically irrelevant.
-
It's because those people either don't play Nurse, or they're survivors who are happy. They're only going to have sarcastic or troll like replies. No one is interested in an actual discussion about it.
-
I actually can feel my game crashing from here with pallet offerings. It's like getting Strode keyed, my game just poops itself, yanno?
-
You get used to losing and not having fun, basically. Only bad players underestimate the power of even 60 seconds of Ruin being up. It might not matter one way or the other to really good survivors who hit skillchecks, but then at that point guess what? Not a lot in that game at all is going to matter - it's probably already a lost cause. So that's an irrelevant argument.

Nurse main here
if you are avarege new nurse is bad, you can't spam blinks anymore and survivors have a better time hiding
if you are good new nurse went from S tier to A tier due to loss on map pressure (this hit me the most) and chases taking longer
if you are godlike new nurse is still the best killer in the game, but the survivors may pop one gen before getting 4k'd
overall, at every match I play I feel like the old one was even more overpowered and needed the nerf, she is still fine
That doesn't change the fact she's awkward and somewhat unfun with how her blink charges are restrictive of a playstyle she had for years. Being overpowered and 4king isn't a lot of people's concern, it's the fun that came with her.
I'd rather have to hit survivors 3 or 4 times to down them and retain her old basekit, because at least I'd still have fun playing her as a killer. It's the equivalent of giving Huntress default 3 hatchets even with addons before she has to reload, when a lot of people's main enjoyment from Huntress is using hatchets in every situation because it's fun.
-
The problem is that it's human nature to be competitive. To "Play for fun" sometimes even if you have that mentality, becomes more competitive for different circumstances in the game. Often times "your fun" removes the fun from the other side. It's not really realistic to play for fun a lot of the time, unless that is completely your personality.
Personally when I played survivor I played for fun, when I played killer it sort of depended on how the survivors played - which generally, they pretty rarely played for fun.
-
Fixing the fundamentals of the game while nerfing perks/survivors/killers etc? It'll never happen, friend. That's far too much balance for this company to handle lol
-
Yes, there are lots of large maps which hinder a large amount of the killers, there are a lot of large AND clutter filled maps that ruin the experience for EVERY killer (Yamoka's/Ormond), and there are maps like Haddonfield/Preschool/Lery's/The Game/Stranger Things map that ruin it for...everyone.
They should also look at smaller maps like The Game. I mean why does something like 2 safe pallets upstairs into dropdown into 2 safe pallets equate to a well designed map? The literal safest pallets in the game, no pun intended. In fact, why do some maps have central buildings that provide such large loops without counterplay? Why don't you just make an entity blocker appear on 1 vault, or 2, instead of 3 for some places?
-
Because SWF just wanna "have fun" and Spirit ruins that fun.
I don't... really think justifying one imbalanced thing with another is a very good argument either way, pal. Assuming either of them are.
-
Could we get a video from someone whose opinion actually matters? Imagine listening to Scott Jund or any of his friends in their massive echo chamber. These are the same people that defended his girlfriend and themselves from constantly deranking prior to streaming so they could bully people, and then they made up excuses and attempted to justify it - and they all went along with it. Really, not the type of people you listen to in any aspect.
-
A killer that actively uses their power, instead of their power being something you can situationally use, tied to a charge or a cooldown and makes them a glorified m1 killer :)
-
Isn't "x killer is boring to play against" just survivor talk for "I can't run around in a circle and MLG loop them for the game"? I suppose it could be "boring" to lose your chases before you can do much of that.
-
Yeah. Nah
-
Bro, Doctor hasn't been touched in ages and very dearly needs help. If you think he's any better than Legion you're either a bad survivor who is new and wants to just play immersed, or you're just plain wrong
I get there's a lot of Legion fans out there who enjoy how broken he was prior to his nerf, but yeesh, that's a stretch

This here:
The game is always changing and evolving.
OP, if you want to help point the developers in a good direction, in your opinion, what are some fair level 4 challenges? 😁
Uh, not it isn't lmao
-
I'm sure all of those killers felt the same way for all of the years they had to deal with the exact same problem :) It is pretty lame of a situation for both sides one way or the other.
You could fix the problem if you simply gave the killer the option to see the ranks of the SWF in their lobby, or something along those lines, if you switched it back.
-
Unless you have people on your dev team that play the game at the highest level on both sides, or you frequently speak to people who are, you will never be capable of balancing your game. That's a fact of life for any game, you cannot simply look at numbers on a piece of paper and decide how to adjust your game - this isn't a game like that.
-
Really strong SWF that know what they're doing? You might get 1 of them, maybe 2. They also might all escape very easily, based off the really good survivors I used to play as her pre-nerf.
She's still great, she's just really awkward and unfun to play, and the changes to her kit, while seemingly minor, are a very big nerf to both her chase potential and her map pressure. If you are not perfect will every blink then you WILL be punished by a good SWF squad. And for many reasons you will most likely not be perfect with all of your blinks, have the ability to traverse the map quickly enough, or end chases fast enough to stop your gens from disappearing.
Again, unless you're an amazing Nurse that doesn't really miss.
-
Because good survivors know the spawns of totems - they're all static spawns. Not hard to find them. They're nopt supposed to be so well hidden it's never found, because some people don't know how to find easy things.

That's the point :)
Make the challenges hard so you give up.
Make the grind hard so you give up.
Then sell the solution.
It's also what devs like Bethesda do: Create a fake problem (weapon durability), then sell the solution (repair kits in the money store)
These devs have more than enough reasons to be hated, what's one more? :')
-
If you're one of the top 20 killers/Nurse's in the world, she's still the best, sure. Spoiler alert: Most Nurse's were just really good, and the nerfs make her overall, really bad and awkward. But, like any killer, you'll dumpster bad survivors like you can on any killer at red ranks with the pool of bad survivors.
Or if you're a survivor who hasn't played a Nurse game against good survivors or killer at higher ranks at all, or you've never played killer in your life, then sure, she's perfect, as you'd expect them to say
As a side note, this game has a habit of making killers that are bad without addons, and just barely good with them. That's not how you balance a game. Addons should make a strong killer stronger, not make a meh killer viable. A great example of this is how absolutely pathetic Doctor's shock range is without addons, and the green one is almost 100% necessary. The fact the devs haven't even BOTHERED to just give Doctor a basic buff to his shock range, instead of the tiny, useless range it has had this whole time speaks volumes.
You. Don't. Have. To. Do. Full. Reworks. To. Give. Bad. Killers. Small. Buffs. Why are you all so afraid to balance this game?
-
Well. It's probably their servers being over capacity, so you are stuck in a queue until the game can find a slot for you, to prevent them from exploding. 50% of sale, double BP, weekend, does not help. Pretty good job so far :)
-
It most 100% will lead to everything you said in your post. The question is whether or not they balance their game around every killer being in the same tier. Do you have faith that the devs can do that? Because I don't. And really, do you want every killer to perform the same? Is that really healthy for the gameplay of killers as a whole, for the people who play them?
-
I hope that making every killer B tier and making every top tier killer B tier, thus making the overall killer experience in red ranks a nightmare, results in more balance like that as well. I'm just waiting for them to kill Huntress hatchets so I have 0 killers that can use skill to outplay survivors. Though I haven't even played the game this entire double bp, so I guess my enjoyment of being at red ranks month after month for 2 1/2 years has just finally made me uninterested. Nothing ever changes with this game :)
-
@Tzeentchling9 said:
Well, they nerfed her because her kill rate at high ranks was too high. So mission accomplished, I guess.
That's not saying much when you're comparing a character that requires skill and actually has a power that's useful, like Spirit, or even Huntress, and the vast majority of killers who are B tier M1'ers that can't use skill to outplay, more or less.
-
Well. That was quite well said. Basically my thoughts on her as well. Unfortunately, as you said, the devs and a lot of the players are unaware and unwilling to listen to the things you've stated, and would prefer we all simply say she's fine.
It's like everyone is aware of how strong the Nurse has always been, that when everyone starts talking about how frustrating, and awkward she now is, people shrug them off because "Nurse still OP!" When they don't understand any of what we're trying to say. Is that really where we want to be with balancing the game?
-
Yeah but it has spooky pumpkins that are facing the wall and you can't even see their face sometimes though
-
Idiots will complain about anything, especially angry idiots. Just ignore them and move on.
It's like someone saving someone from the hook, going immersed mode, and the only person you see/hear is the injured survivor. Guess I should just...open up the ole "Arbitrary Survivor Rulebook" and find the line where it says I have to ignore them, when what should have happened is the healthy survivor made their presence known.
I mean even still, with how fast games go it's technically in your best interest to always go for the injured person and tunnel them, and you'll often find yourself later in the game wishing you took that one person out but you "played nice" In the end you take the burden of frustration off of them and place it on yourself.
-
The problem lies with the devs themselves for not balancing the length of the game and how quickly gens currently go, which is amplified if the killer doesn't have Ruin. Ruin is a problem. The time it takes for gens to be completed if you go hard on them is a problem. The fact that the vast majority of killers, regardless of how well they play, cannot play aggressively in the sense of "Hook this person, chase another" mentality that top tier killers have. If you do, you will lose every single time. So you have to proxy a hook, or use them as bait. You can't go off on a hunt with BBQ, or do a lot of things. You can if you want to just have fun on a killer you enjoy, but you won't win or anything.
What's amazing to me is they've never even acknowledged that it's a problem.

Ahh, the ol' 'I'm fine, so who cares about anyone else?' comments.
Since you 2 are fine, clearly no fixing needs be done. People just need to get on your level. Damn!
Stop all discussion on balance! These two people are fine playing the game! 20/10! Perfectly fine for these two people! Absolutely no one else matters!
I mean, this is the balance every PvP game strives for; being fine for these two people. BHVR has done it! Congrats, BHVR!
I mean you can go to their post history and see they're simply survivor mains who want to pretend to act like killers on a forum in an attempt to make it seem like killers are here saying "Everything is fine" for any and every complaint.
-
I mean they're a PITA for people who aren't casual as well.

Allow me to show you why that's only continuing the toxic cycle. See, if someone actively wants to be toxic towards say... Killers... than those Killers will sometimes be discouraged and be toxic back in retaliation... and they'll do this by doing what you're saying and not playing nice anymore... that in turn shows affects Survivors that're not toxic at all...
And in just continues the cycle, the Survivors that're nice wont be nice, than they'll be toxic towards Killers, than the Killers won't be nice, etc, etc. An endless cycle in this game.
And yes, it's obvious that people won't play less serious because it's a double BP event... you don't need to go ALL OUT and scrap up every point you get... while also the 3 v 1 or 2 v 1 you're facing is completely destroyed because 1 or 2 Survivors wanted to just quit... all because the game wasn't a "good game" in their eyes...
Again, you don't have to do that at all and you don't have to be nice either... But it would be cool if you were. I'm not insinuating that the Killers sit in the basement and let the remaining Survivors complete all 5 gens... doing little things like giving the last Survivor the hatch is a nice gesture...
Right, I don't think being toxic because someone else was toxic is a good thing - I actively suggest not. The problem is like, let's say I want to be nice. I'd let survivors do Halloween gens, I wouldn't pressure them a ton, and I'd go out of my way to be a bit nicer for the sake of more BP. Do you know how often that same scenario isn't reflected back towards me? I'd get hardcore looped I'd have the survivors doing whatever they could do not let me hook them, and while I can understand they might not be aware that I'm playing nice, it wouldn't be hard to figure out.
Have I had games where survivors have ran up to a Halloween hook and pointed at it? Yes. But generally speaking, if you play 10 games and 8 of them result in a bad time, you're not going to want to play Jumpscare Myer's on a massive map again, or not play a higher tier killer. The thing about playing Nurse or Spirit for example is you can choose to be nice, or if they don't want to play nice, you can choose to destroy their entire team, if you're good enough. I'd go into lobbies, you know, double BP, play nice. Flashlights, insta-meds, they didn't care about anything but themselves and their BP - they didn't care about the killer, they didn't use the BPS for -everyone-
At the end of the day, if every killer was a B tier killer, you'd have no one wanting to play killer at red ranks and people would actively go out of their way to avoid the miserable experience because killers that offer an out to use your skill to win doesn't exist any longer.
-
I used to always play random killers during double BP, until after several consecutive dbag survivors I just decided I'll play a good killer and stomp everyone instead. If you're not going to "relax" why should I :)
It's almost like a double bp event doesn't stop killers from playing the best killer for red ranks, which by default makes them the best killer to farm BP. Who knew?
Double BP doesn't mean you sit around, playing nice and farming. Some people just want to play the game without someone whining on the forums about it. Me, I don't play the game anymore anyway, so I could care less
-
If they're nerfing all of the high tier killers I can only assume the next step for them is to bring each and every killer up in strength, close but below where the current top tier killers are.
If they simply nerf the only killers in the game that use their skill and strengths to actually really give good survivors a showing, and do nothing else to adjust either killer strength, or extend the length of games, you're going to have a real shitshow on your hands and no one is going to want to play a red rank killer anymore.
Problem is I just don't see them going through all that time and effort when they can barely balance anything in the game as it is - it'd take them 2 years to go through rebalancing all the killers. And guess what? You still get situations like Legion, or situations like Thantophobia, where even reworks and "buffs" make things worse than they even were.
-
Everyone: The challenges are too difficult, they should really be adjusted or altered, per PTB feedback
BHVR: Yeah they're pretty well crafted if I do say so myself
-
You know what the funny part is? The game runs on Unreal Engine 4. You know, that engine that has amazing graphics and ridiculous smoothness for countless games that use it? A game is only as good as the people who make it. Says enough about it

Now they are speaking about Spirit.
I'm quitting after having played that game at every opportunity.
I hope a similar game will get out.
Don't forget to leave a review on their Steam page - outside of the changes they're making to the top tier killers that are the only killers really effective against good survivors at red ranks, I think there's countless other things that both survivors and killers can talk about in a review on this game.
I remember when I couldn't play this game for over 6 months after Legion came out because of the infinite loadscreen bug I got so often I literally couldn't play. Let that sink in. It took them 6 months to fix a gamebreaking bug. I mean I guess if you're always incompetent, at least you're consistent with something.
