The Entity actually exist but instead of feeding on hope it feeds of frustration. That's why it's so hard to put this game down even if your at wits end.

Seen she will have fed enough and bring a glorious end to our existance.

yea, or dead by daylight is just one big social experiment

Who care about people that don't stick around (most of the time)? Oh wait... BHVR does. Cause veterans already bought all the cosmetics etc.

The balancing act you are talking about is very VERY heavily in favor of one side right now. hence the queue time is so long on that end.

I think that's pretty true, the game has had enough time to improve stability, yet it seems like it could die at any time. I think the game is pretty beginner-unfriendly and at the same time the veterans and top% of players also have a lot to complain.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/297541/why-is-bhvr-farming-negative-reputation

    A few things:

    • I don't think I've ever seen a forum/feedback channel for a game that hasn't been predominantly negative. That's the nature of the beast. Very few people take the time to drop by and leave an 'I like this' comment, because they are generally too busy enjoying the game.
    • I certainly have my gripes with the game (too many weak killers, too many killers with boring/useless addons, some survivor perks are utterly busted, maps) but it's better than it was a year ago and I'm guessing it'll be better next year too.
    • 'Controversial' doesn't always mean 'bad' or 'unnecessary'.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2670578#Comment_2670578

    Tricky.

You can't just take feedback from veterans, because what they want for the game (say: going back to ranks) may well make the experience substantially less pleasant for newer or more intermediate players and strangle your game's growth.

Similarly, you can't just balance around the experience of newer players (see: Wraith and Cenobite nerfs) because that results in things being squiffy for the veterans.

    It's a balancing act.

I fully agree with almost everything you've said, but dbd just feels different. Of course it's only the vocal majority, and even if it were the same for every game, that still means there is something wrong and should be addressed properly

  • @jesterkind said:

The community aren't project leads, whether they request an idea has absolutely zero bearing on whether it should be implemented. If they suggest good ideas that don't conflict with other aspects of development, sure, but that's a big if.

But at the end of the day, the community is the game. Project leads can do whatever they feel like, if the community doesn't approve, its wrong.

Again, it's not so much about the feedback, it's more about why there are little to no quality of life changes, why the SBMM system is still just like it was when they first tested it (maybe more accurate but the same effect on the game) why the anticheat / banning of cheaters is not improving. I'm questioning bhvr's plan with this game, they still pump out new content as if the game is in a healthy state right now.

  • @Rizzo said:

It's pretty much confirmed that bhvr does not look at community feedback, at least they don't take that feedback seriously

We do look at community feedback, you can ask @MandyTalk, she's here many hours every single day to collect feedback and thoughts from the community, as part of her job.

I think there's a massive misconception regarding community's feedback, not implementing everything the community asks for all the time doesn't mean the feedback hasn't been looked at.

That's also not what I meant by that, you shouldn't just blindly take in any type of feedback, but there have been a lot of constructive posts and ideas that have yet to be acknowledged properly

  • @jesterkind said:

I've never understood the "they don't listen to the community" complaint. There's no evidence of that, unless you take them not immediately implementing popular community ideas into the game as proof that they don't listen- in which case, um, good, it'd be terrible if they implemented every popular community idea.

I'm saying that, because the changes that we DO get are almost always unrequested and not welcomed by the community, and the changes a lot of people want are either pushed back into low priority or ignored. I can't prove that bhvr is ignoring feedback, but I think it's pretty obvious that the community is very unhappy with the game and not much is being done to change that.

  • @xili84 said:

Because they only care about money. As long as people keep throwing their wallet at this garbage... Do I need to say more? Ah well, tomorrow, this game will be for free on Epic games so... Expect a ton more hackers etc. Not just that, but also more people to keep this game alive. (and throw more money at cosmetics)

If that were true, then why are they actively trying to kill their game by displeasing their playerbase? Seems like a very bad business plan.

  • @Tr1nity said:

Well many times this feedback is just “fix your game” or something equally indecisive about issues relating to dbd.

Well they can't get constructive feedback from everybody, but they do get a lot of good feedback. It just gets ignored altogether.

  • I think anything can be toxic if you want it to be so. It's all about your intent. If you click your flashlight at the killer to provoke them, that can be justified as being a strategic intention, but if you click your flashlight 10000 times with macros to annoy the killer, that's pretty toxic in my opinion.

Teabagging at the exit gate is just pixels moving on the screen lmao, but if your intention is to annoy or mock the killer, then it's definitely toxic intent.

If you camp a survivor after the last gen is done and the other survivors are trying to lure you away, camping seems like a pretty strategic choice to me, but if you camp your first hook at 4-5 gens left, that's either a very bad strategy or toxic intent.

If you play mariokart and are way ahead of everyone else and on the last lap you stop right before the finish line, waiting for the 2nd place to catch up giving him false hope of being able to pass you, just to cross the finish at the last second, that's pretty toxic.

Bad Mannerisms always have toxic intent, if you want to annoy, mock or simply are trying to disrespect somebody....that's pretty toxic if you ask me.

Dark green filter with dark objects slightly darker while moving. That's how.

I don't know, not having motion sickness myself makes it very hard to understand. How are you able to play the game at all, with all the spinning, moonwalking and quick turns all the time.

  • How does a colour give you motion sickness?

  • @jesterkind said:

Minor point, but there's no incentive to gain MMR because it's not a progression system. You're not supposed to be going out of your way to try and get max points, it's supposed to be puttering away in the background. The theory is, play sweaty for a 4k and (after you're placed properly) you'll be matched with players who can handle playing sweaty for a 4k, and vice versa.

This system nearly works properly all the time, but even after they patch up its current holes, people need to stop approaching it like it's some kind of progression system, and that they'll be "punished" for escapes/deaths. Play the way you play and, with some adjustments, this system will try to match you with players who'll be responding accordingly.

As I said in my post already, the system might be working properly, but the effect it has on matches tends to be more negative than positive.

"Play the way you play and, with some adjustments, this system will try to match you with players who'll be responding accordingly." I don't think the system is even remotely capable of achieving that with such vague data being used. It's not hard to "accidentally" make the system think you are looking for a more "challenging" experience, which although very subjective, seems to be very unfun for a lot of people.

So you’re assuming either that people who don’t have a problem with MMR don’t care about the game or are “clueless” or aren’t “people”. Got it.

    That's not true.

  • @dugman said:

I don’t think the “vast majority of people” hate MMR. Most people who play the game probably barely even know it’s a thing. And even then of the people who do know about it not everybody feels like they get bad matches. (My matches seem pretty reasonable most of the time, not any worse than when it used emblem ranks.)

I was only counting people that care about the health of the game and SBMM specifically. If you count the clueless average players, then yes that statement would probably be wrong.

  • Don't assume playing as the killer is going to be less stressful.

  • That's a funny question, because I actually started playing in late 2016 but then stopped shortly after and only really started playing the game again 2 years later. So probably yes, but the better question would be if I would come back, so considering the current state of the game, probably not.

I see this more and more, people saying a Blight is exploiting when they have no idea what they're doing is just game mechanics?

For example, people who say the hug tech is an exploit, I see it a lot surprisingly, this is just abusing collision in the game, it's not an exploit. This is like saying a Billy who can curve and not bump into a wall is exploiting for okaying around the collision of an object.

S flicks, Z flicks, moon rushes, and all these, are no exploits.

The only real exploit a Blight can do currently, is a lag flick.

"Do most people know what they are talking about (when it comes to blight)?

    No, no they don't.

  • Thank you very much for all the replies!

    Very interesting stuff.

It sounds good on paper, but you would either need to completely lock everything, or let killer choose different killer.

If you just get to normal lobby, now that those ######### will equip perks to counter me.

Problem is that there is high chance both sides will go nuclear on that second game.

That's true, but that's kinda the point, isn't it? You want to play against the same group of people again. It's something you would do every once in a while, because you just felt like the matchmaking was pretty fair and want to play them again, or you got completely destroyed and want to prepare for the second round trying to beat them this time, or whatever reason you might have. I think it would just be a nice option to have in case you want to play again without going back into the queue.

  • @Eredestra said:

And then abuse the system by boosting eachothers ranks?

why would anyone do that? Rank or MMR don't mean anything in this game.

Welcome to the (non)existent fog experience 🙃 do you ever play survivor?

yeah survivor is fun, but you don't get enough bloodpoints for the never ending grind.

  • 1. I start the game

    2. I look at the killer roster

    3. I think about what killer would be fun today

    4. I eliminate each killer one by one (too weak...too slow...too addon dependent...too RNG dependent...will probably lose 'cause M1 killer...)

    5. I think about quitting the game again

    6. I remember that I don't feel like playing anything else right now

    7. I choose the killer I assume might be the least painful experience that day

    8. I queue the next match with a tear rolling down my cheek

    9. I dominate my match with ease

    10. I think to myself man today 'aint a bad day to play dbd huh?

    11. I get stomped in the next match with seemingly zero chance of winning

(repeat steps 3 to 11 for about 3 hours)

    12. I close the game while pretending to myself that I had fun playing

    13. I glance over some of the new hate comments from unhappy survivors on my profile calling me all sorts of hurtful things

    14. I go on the dead by daylight forums to check out what's being talked about today.

Survivor Option to BAN Killers from your next game (but only 1)

Starcraft 2 you can ban maps, overwatch you can ban heros etc. etc. Not a new feature in games. And more variety is needed in this game.

Option to ban say pin-head because your last 20 games have been against a super unbalanced killer (i.e. not being able to do box while being smashed by chains) until you patch the game properly. I think thats alot more fun for people.

Because the current strategy is release a killer or survivor thats very OP and get everyone to purchase them then nerf them in future. I just think it would be alot more fun to have choice in this game. Maybe a player has had 15 spirits in a row. Give them an option to say no the next game.

So survivors can choose the map, 16 perks and 4 items, they can communicate everything going on in the match to each other, and they can choose what killers they want to go against? Only thing missing would be that they can choose if they want to win the next match or not, oh wait they can.

  • I don't think either side should have second chances. It's extremely frustrating to outplay someone and then they just use a perk or item to save themselves again. Mistakes need to be punished on both sides.

The Devs gave this game an identity crisis. It seems as though they want it to be a horror game, a competitive game, a "party game", and every other kind of game that they can label it as. I've constantly advocated for a casual mode for a while now, and they said they havent done it because it would make the queue times longer. I think the reason they haven't done so is because it would show how many people don't care about the ranked/competitive aspect of the game, and it would show how pointless it was to try and push the game in that direction.

When did they ever push the game into a competitive direction? Only now after several years are they starting to slowly balance the game by making changes that were long overdue.

  • @YOURFRIEND said:

Absolutely nobody would play ranked mode

I think it would be the exact same even if we had a casual mode, people will always sweat and try hard.

The current "competitive" mode has almost nothing to do with actual competitiveness and pretty much gives no reward for playing good, but people still treat it as some kind of hardcore tournament of some sorts.

Every time Bubba hits you with his chainsaw while your on a hook it should increase the Sacrifice Speed by 1 billion trillion thousand percent but only say "considerably" in game.

eh sounds more like a "slightly" to me

  • @ThePolice said:

He needs the ability to throw the chainsaw like a boomerang and instantly kill all survivors on impact like in the movie

    classic

  • Bubba should get the ability to transform any hook into a basement hook and they should add a door to the basement entrance that he can close shut, like in the movie.

  • I mean even if killers should have 1 more perk slot it's way too late for that. I'm pretty sure all killer perks are "balanced" around killers having 4 perk slots, so they would probably have to re-balance a lot of perks just to adjust to that change.

  • How does FOV help with motion sickness?

  • @pseudechis said:

Maybe you're just not that good at the game. (ITs a hard pill to swallow but seriously its not that hard to run circles around a killer at the moment).

I'm not happy with the SBMM at the moment but its because the so called fairer matches have been anything but. Even after getting routinely destroyed I'm still not getting "easier" or "less sweaty games".

I'm not that good but SBMM doesn't seem to reflect that even after two weeks of solid game time.

SBMM or Skill Based MatchMaking appears to not be based on ANYTHING really. It's just like what we had before. SBMM and MMR makes no sense in a game without defining what "skill" even is or what the win conditions are. It only seems to look at survivors either dying or surviving and their time alive, talking about "skill based"....

  • "the killers all won"

I disagree, there is no defined win condition in dead by daylight you don't gain anything at the end of the match besides currency to keep you grinding, you only lose....wait losing also doesn't exist in this game!

Anyway this game is not about winning it's about having fun in a match...... wait....

why do we play this game again?

  • @SasukeKun said:

killer was fun at the beginning, now it's just a sweatfest, all the time. It's really so aggravating that The devs in this game are so ignorant to what goes on when you're a high ranking killer.

There's too many overpowered survivor perks compared to killer perks, Some killer perk benefits are so horrible it's laugh worthy, they make you work so hard for the tiniest reward when you look at it.

Maybe if they actually balance out the way killer plays and adjust the maps so every chase isnt a loopathon, and get rid of bloodlust, it's just not fun gameplay for what it's supposed to be. I'm tired of playing spirit or some other killer that's strong, they don't actually take a look at why theres a small list of killers viaable in high ranks, it's cuz most suck eggs compared.

why don't you just play something else for a week? Try Civilization or something for a refreshing change.

That "constant updated" thing is BS to the least. It's a really bad and unprofessional chat filter. OH NO SOMEONE WROTE "PP" LETS CENSOR IT! There are thousands of examples of how just BAD and amateur this chat filter is. Whoever provided bhvr with this joke of a code should give them their money back. Or maybe someone paid them to use this pos? Honestly I can't tell at this point.

Also, it censors legitimate words, if you write w t f (the full words), it will censor the WHAT THE too.

Nevermind the fact that such stupid chat filter should not exist in a MATURE (M) rated game, with so much gore in it, or at least give an option to disable it!

Also, if its SO bad to beginwith, don't put it in the game! It's literally ######### and just hurts the experience more than it adds. How about build up something that is not absolutely disgraceful and only then implement it in the game? No?

    Yeah thought so.

    Bro, it's constantly being updated..

  • @fogdonkey said:

The game should calculate the shortest path between the killer and the survivor and based on the distance of this shortest path it should decide if the survivor is in terror radius.

This is however also not a perfect solution, because imagine survivor is standing above the killer, but since the stairs are far away, survivor is not in the terror radius. If the survivor jumps down the survivor falls directly on the killer, which is weird because there was no warning. As a solution maybe there should be an additional warning music indicating how easy it is for the survivor to get to the killer.

I agree with this, the terror radius should indicate how close the killer is to you on a realistic path. Unless it's nurse, the killer won't be able to get you if you're on different floors so you're not in any danger even if the killer is literally under or above you.

Maybe having only the heartbeat and no terror radius music if you're on different floors could fix this. You would still be able to tell if the killer is physically close to you or not, but now you would be able to tell more accurately if you are in danger or not.

You not liking it does not mean it's a 'bug'.

Christ; Survivor mains really think their subjective views are objective reality.

There are sounds and other things that are clearly meant to confuse / hide either the killers or survivors actions, but I don't think that the terror radius is supposed to confuse survivors.

  • Sounds like every other chapter so far to me.

  • @BrokenSouI said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/270954/terror-radius-in-two-floors-maps

The point is supposed to be confusion. You're not supposed to know where they are. Just that they're close

If you are on two different floors on midwich for example, the killer isn't really close at all. To me something like this feels like a leftover byproduct of introducing 2 story maps and you're just calling it a "feature".

  • I really don't get bhvr's thought process with these things. People have been saying that Mother's Dwelling is way too big since forever, now they make a map that is practically double the size of that with god pallets everywhere and a potential infinite window as well. It's one thing to not listen to community feedback, but this is just strange.

  • I'm not saying that spirit players need stridor, I am saying that stridor was already questionable in use and now has become pretty much pointless to run on any killer.

  • @Almo said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2389923#Comment_2389923

Over the long haul, we have to make our systems sensible. It becomes impossible to keep track of how everything works if there are weird inconsistencies everywhere. So we mix in some work that addresses systemic consistency with that of specific balance issues.

But is Stridor going to get a rework now, or is it going to end up as one of the pointless perks to run (which it has pretty much already been before.)

  • @PalletsAndHooks said:

Five auric cells says huntress is a beast with the hallways.

Ten auric cells says demogorgons best map.

    So?

I don't think it's a good huntress map and about demo I don't know, but since the things I was talking about apply to every killer I'd imagine he has better maps than this one. The gens are too far apart, you can't defend them, so unless you somehow always have survivors clustered up in one area so you could slug them, this map is a nightmare.

  • @Almo said:

Spirit was not the target of the change to how volume-adjusting effects stack. We knew it would have a large effect on Spirit/Stridor users, but the intention was to make their interactions more sensible. Most notably the issue where a Survivor would hear their own sounds louder if the Killer had Stridor.

Survivors hearing their sounds a little louder was a problem? Is that really your priority? Another killer perk has become utterly pointless now.

  • @PalletsAndHooks said:

It's a really good map. Complaints other than this one seem to stem from unfamiliarity with the area.

The map is rather large, but it has alot of narrow hallways that reduce the field space considerably

That's true, people haven't played on it for very long yet and that's honestly even scarier to me. I don't want to know how strong the actual potential for this map is once survivors know every gen spawn and strong chainable loop locations. The map is too big, it's way too big and narrow at the same time, it can get atrociously hard to track people in these corridors with multiple possible corners they could have cut and intersections every 10 meters.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/268942/post-game-chat-censorship

If people need to vent they can do what normal people do and go have a smoke or write in a diary. Considering a lot of the "venting" in DBD's chat is racial slurs and homophobia. Also get off the "if you can't handle harsh words in a game how do you expect to deal with the real world" stuff. It doesn't matter what you're doing have enough respect for yourself to respect someone else. If you can't handle your frustration without getting on someone else's nerves then you need to sort yourself out.

People shouldn't insult each other in post game chats, but the filter isn't just censoring insults but pretty much anything, it seems almost random what gets censored and what not. Also not having the choice to disable the filter is in my opinion the actual problem. It wouldn't be a big deal that the filter is bad if you could just turn it off anyway.
