That is the game in a nutshell. Perks to counter things you don't like. It's the same for both sides.
You can't compare being slugged to a generator getting completed on it's own. It's rather ignorant. The killer already takes a risk that you will either be equipped to get up on your own with a perk or smart enough to spread out and get picked up in a safe location.
If you're down for more than a minute, that is your and your teams fault. You deserve to be punished, not have your hand held and given yet another chance (after all the chances the game already gives survivors) to win the match.
Get better at looping is one of the many answers to this. If you can't waste enough of the killers time in order to let your teammates get picked up, that is a you problem, not the game. No one is asking you to loop the killer for half the match. If it takes your team half the match to get up, your team deserves to loose.
You can't always have fun when you're losing. Not everything in a video game needs to be fun. The game just needs to provide "just enough" fun to keep you playing. It is impossible to make every aspect of a game like this to be a fun experience.
You're using perfect scenarios for your argument, which rarely happen in solo que and are more likely to happen in SWF groups particularly with looping killers. I know your response to that is "everyone should just get better" but I know that is not going to happen and killers will continue to abuse slugging because they know everyone isn't going to use self pickup perks. Being left in the dying state for long periods of time has been something talked about here and within the community of the game for years. I'm not asking for the ability of being able to unconditionally pick myself up from the dying state. In fact if you read my posts here about this subject you'll see I argue the exact opposite and think that the situation should be conditional. I'm completely aware that there are situations where the killer leaving a downed survivor on the ground for a few moments makes sense. If you down a survivor and see another nearby then it makes sense. However to leave a survivor in the dying state for prolonged periods of time, especially for full bleed outs, is not necessary and in my opinion is completely toxic. If you equate that to "having my hand held" then you and I have completely different perspectives on what equates to fun and fairness in this game.
If the killer knows they have no more than a minute to hook a downed survivor then the issue of slugging would be over. The power difference between the killer and survivors is bigger than you think. Survivors have to deal with repairing generators, unhooking, healing each other and often times worry about hex totems all while avoiding the killer. The killer doesn't suffer from the same down time survivors do. Our time to recover works in the killer's advantage because for every second we have to deal with everything that doesn't involve repairing a generator is a second the killer gains to find someone and reset all or a lot of our recovery progress. Leaving downed survivors for prolonged periods of time crosses the line of fairness when survivors already have to spend half their time recovering from injuries and unhooks.
Also just to be clear, this isn't as much of a problem when only 1 survivor is down and 3 others are still in the match. It becomes a problem when 2 or more are down and the killer simply refuses to hook them. It plays too much in the killer's favor, especially when killers get addons that are so powerful they could be considered an extra power like instant down addons. All I want is for killers to focus on the hook objective more than relying on slugging. Being downed and unable to do anything but sit there bored out of your mind is something survivors shouldn't have to deal with under any circumstance.
-
You left the survivor on the ground long enough for them to use it. Thats on you. Never thought I'd see someone complain about a perk that only works if you let it work.
-
@MrPenguin said:
"There can be another condition to deal with situations when other survivors do not go to pickup the downed survivor in a timely manner too. If the survivor is downed for more than a minute then they can fully recover on their own."
I was on board until this point.
It's the other survivors job to pick them up. This would make leaving the teammate on the ground to slam gens the best play all the time.
Why save them? They'll just pick themselves up anyway and if the survivors are competent in chase lasting a minuet is not that hard. You're better off sticking your nose to a gen.
Put the anticamp mechanic on slugs sure. Assuming the mechanic goes well which is yet to be seen. Basekit UB no. The devs just said they have no plans for that.
It was just an extra thought I had to deal with the possibility of being completely ignored, which seems to happen often in this game both in the dying state and on the hook.

Only thing that needs to be done is for the game to detect if anyone has a way to get up on their own and if not, speed up the bleed out time. Maybe give the survivors an option to concede the match when all 4 are down.
No. If the killer ignores the hook objective they should be punished for it. It shouldn't work in their favor for leaving everyone on the ground. Ignoring the hooks should never become a strategy for killers. All they would do is hunt down all 4 survivors until they are all down and go afk until they bleed out.

I run Unbreakable in every match and I maybe have a chance to use it once out of every ten matches.
You're not forced to run anything, just don't complain about not being able to counter it because you're too greedy with other perks.
Slugging should be happening. It's a sign that the killer is playing well, by applying pressure on multiple survivors. You have enough ways to deal with it, one of which is to get good at looping so the killer doesn't down you, buying time for your teammates to get up.
I'm not greedy with other perks. I see certain situations in this game as detrimental to its fun and overall experience that should not have to rely on the use of perks to deal with. And yes I am being forced to run the perks you mentioned if you say that is my answer to dealing with this problem. There is no reason for the killer to leave a downed survivor on the ground for more than a minute and even that is pushing it in my opinion. It wouldn't be fair if survivors could leave a generator and have it continue to be repaired would it? Then why should killers who refuse to hook survivors be rewarded for playing this way? "Get better at looping" is not the answer to this. If after 7 years most survivors can't loop a killer for half the match then its never going to be the norm.

It's called Unbreakable, Soul Guard or No Mither.
Its called not having to force every survivor to run the same perk loadout forever to deal with something that shouldn't be happening.

We need something to deal with unnecessary slugging.

why should it not be possible? you and your team made misplay and killer capitalized. killer objective is to kill. downing all remaining survivors simultaneously is killer winning and you losing. Killer being punished for downing survivor which is their objective is short-sighted. I do not think many killer would agree that they should be punished for doing their objective.
I'm not saying punish killers for downing survivors. I'm saying punish killers who leave survivors on the ground for long periods of time. You do realize if every match was only killers going around downing survivors and ignoring hooks altogether that this game would not be fun to play as survivor.

In the screenshot I posted above you can see that 2 of the 3 survivors on the ground are recovered and the third is almost there. This should never be possible.
I disagree.
All of this happened because the killer refused to hook the survivors which is their primary objective.
No, killing survivors is the primary objective. Hooking them is often the quickest, best way to do this, but it's not the only way.
Look, if you want to argue that killers leaving survivors slugged isn't fun, I'm totally in agreement. It's boring. But it is sometimes a good strategy that will lead to victory if survivors screw up (see your own example above). If your entire team is getting slugged, that's not a game design problem or killers playing unfairly, that's your team screwing up.
It absolutely is the killer playing unfairly. Also there is a difference between survivors screwing up and the killer abusing a mechanic in the game for their own advantage. The situation in the screenshot above had no remedy. Once the killer saw another survivor in range of the first downed one it was over. 2 survivors are not going to knock out 5 gens in time and my team realized that. If the new norm is going to be slug 1 and bait another then no one is going to put up with that for very long.
And yes, slugging isn't fun which is why I think it shouldn't be a part of the game anymore. It completely ruins the survivor experience and gives the killer a massive unfair advantage. It takes survivors too long to recover from situations in this game. Having that on top of having to deal with constant slugging just makes the game a miserable experience.

Survivor players should probably play better so they don’t all go down at the same time then!
Imagine if those generators could do themselves simply by survivors doing nothing after working on them for a moment. But were supposed to be Ok with the killer winning by leaving everyone on the ground and ignoring the hooks. Maybe its not about survivors needing to play better as much as its about killers playing without abusing slugging. The killer and survivor power difference in this game is too wide.

Like, this story is “the killer used a downed survivor as bait, and then we took the bait, and then the killer won.” You’re saying it’s unfair that the killer won after the survivors hugely misplayed the scenario! How is that the killer playing unfair?
I'm guessing you didn't read my OP or really look at the screenshot I posted above. Its one thing for survivors to be punished for their mistakes, but leaving 3 people on the ground just so you can guarantee you get the 4k is abusing slugging. In the screenshot I posted above you can see that 2 of the 3 survivors on the ground are recovered and the third is almost there. This should never be possible. These survivors should be able to pick themselves up after being on the ground for that long. All of this happened because the killer refused to hook the survivors which is their primary objective. Killers who refuse to hook survivors in a timely manner should be punished for it. There is no positive argument for this.

Perfect! Thanks. I am still questioning how I am earning points via matches when I am over 2 million bloodpoints. Don't know if my game is just glitched but never had it happen before
It might have something to do with the login rewards going on right now. I know there have been a few occasions where I have went over the cap and wasn't sure why. I do know if I am at the cap and do a normal match then it won't go over the cap.
-
Yep. At the last grade reset I was at 2 million BP and when I logged in I had 2.8 million. I think this is good because people might forget to spend their BPs before the reset and miss out on their rewards.

Killers should only be able to play in the narrowly prescribed way that survivors like me demand! No agency, no variety, no strategy!
Pointing out a problem thats been abused for years in the game isn't survivors demanding killers only play in a "narrowly prescribed" way. You're making it sound like if you can't do this as the killer then you have little to no other options to play and win. This is not true at all. Excessive slugging is not good for this game and survivor players are sick of it.
-
First match of the day and this happens. The killer was the skull merchant who was using drones on downed survivors. They also refused to hook the first survivor that was downed. I wondered after about 30 seconds why the killer had not picked them up yet and sure enough they were simply using them as bait. When the killer got 3 survivors down they waited awhile and then decided to hook one and only one survivor. I tried going in to pick the other 2 up but it just ended up with the killer tunneling them down. Just that easily the skull merchant was able to abuse slugging and end the match quickly leaving us with absolutely no option to effectively deal with this situation.
This is wrong in every way. This is not fair at all. More killers are abusing slugging because they know it benefits them the most to play this way. This situation should not even be possible. If the killer does not hook a survivor shortly after downing them it should not play in their favor.
-
This has happened to me several more times since I made this post. There are too many killers in this game who simply refuse to hook survivors. This has to stop. The game just simply is not fun to play when this is the norm. It shouldn't have come to a point where we need basekit anti slugging abilities to deal with this problem but it has been a problem for too long. The killer should not be rewarded for playing like this. It should be in every way against them to leave survivors on the ground for prolonged periods of time. Survivors should naturally recover, not naturally die when they are on the ground. It shouldn't be the "dying" state. It should be the wounded state that you fully recover from after a period of time.
-
The worst slugging is when there are 2 survivors left and the killer leaves one on the ground even though the other survivor is nowhere near them. They'll do this up until the slugged survivor only has about 5% left on the bar. It is beyond toxic. Slugging has to become a thing of the past in this game.

i don't mind the ping option but like you said your other suggestion is abusable.
It isn't abusable if survivors have a way to know the hooked survivor doesn't want to be unhooked at any given moment.
-
I think this was the right decision. The change would've given pyramid head too much power. The fact he can already avoid hooks if a survivor has torment is pretty powerful. Survivors have to be careful in his current state to simply not get the torment debuff. If he were able to apply it at random then all he would need to do is proximity camp hooks which would likely discourage save attempts.

Before I get jumped on. I'm not saying you can't just questioning the why.
I find culturally relevant things in entertainment and consumerism in general interesting. Lgbt pride themes have become more common in games in recent years and I like being part of the conversation.

I'm only speaking related to pride month celebration by companies & merch and stuff like that, not representation as a whole (obviously the general public is more familiar with lesbians than they are with asexuals for example). It's just my experience than a lot of times when some sexualities are left out lesbians are always one of them, even though they're not an "obscure" sexuality and are literally the first letter of the acronym. Some examples that comes to mind are the Sims and Among Us making pride flags available and forgetting the lesbian one, or pride merch like socks and scarfs missing the lesbian flag... there's unfortunately a lot of examples of this. Although at first people justified it because the flag had changed so companies didn't know which one to use, now it kinda feels personal.. (and I know this isn't what BHVR is trying to do and a lesbian flag is coming, but it's still very reminiscent of that "trend")
(and I apologize if my statement made it sound like I'm victimizing lesbians or turning representation into a contest and taking away from others' struggle, it really wasn't my intention at all)
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3444657#Comment_3444657
I know it's intentional, which is what I'm criticizing for the reasons I've developped in my OG post. Forgetting the gay flag was a (probably) unintentionnal mistake that I'm not too upset about considering they'll fix it, not releasing the lesbian flag on purpose to either make it seem like the gay flag was planned all along or for whatever other reason they don't want to let us know feels quite uncomfortable, not to say hurtful. If they wanted to "spread out" festivities they could have released some charms each week instead of releasing them all except the one they forgot to make, maybe some others that didn't leak and therefore people don't expect to get, and the lesbian one, which we know is already ready to go and don't have a justification as to why we can't get.
I can see how releasing them gradually over the course of the month would've been received better rather than so many all at once. If not that, then just all at the same time. Either way, I wouldn't worry too much about it. They've shown a lot of support to the lgbt community so I can't see this happening for any bad reason.

They have done and continue to do so much for the lgbt community and people still find reason to find fault in them.
feels like it’s generalized, that any negative criticism towards how they handle lgbtq+ topics shouldn’t come from the community, which just is wrong (even though I agree this post specifically seems not necessary, OP and others might feel different about it)

They are just giving their feedback on this matter without attacking. I have seen way worse regarding LGBTQ+ topics on these forums which you yourself have defended.
They did acknowledge that its coming later, which means there is probably a reason for it. I don't think they'd intentionally leave it out for no reason. Maybe they just want to space it out through the month or reveal them along with a character. Who knows. I just didn't see the need to make such a long post like this about it, and that is just me giving my feedback on that.
And I thank them for everything they've done, but it doesn't mean they can't do better or we should keep quiet when they make mistakes, mostly if they're doing it out the goodness of their heart which would mean they'd probably like to improve.
I don't think this was a mistake which was the point I was making before. This feels like unfair criticism, but you're certainly welcome to give it. Like I said, there is probably a reason why it wasn't revealed today so any assumption of it being intentionally left out for any bad reason is unreasonable.
-
Yes people do. You would know about it.
Yea, but this seems a bit unfair. Is waiting a few days really asking too much?

I've been watching streamers the last few days playing TCM and it looks fun, but for playing from time to time, I don't see it as a game for playing thousands of hours like DBD due its gameplay limits. The survivors (or victims as called in the game) are meant to hide all the time, if a killer spot them a chase which lasts for 15-20 seconds start and finish when the survivor die or hide again. Fun but after playing 4-5 matches you are bored and don't want to play it again until tomorrow or more days later. Anyway, the grandpa mechanic is funny.
It was the complete opposite experience for me. I played it a lot for 2 days and when the tech test was over I just wanted to play more. People were playing the game in many different ways. Not all the victim players were hiding all the time. Once I figured a few things out I started being more bold. You can definitely play safe and not make any noise as you escape but you'll probably be looking at a 20+ minute game depending on how often the killers are near you. The game has a lot of circumstances that can play in your favor or against you. I played a lot of matches during the tech test and all of them felt like a new experience each time.
-
I was having so much fun playing TCM I was also watching people stream it at the same time. 😁Its fun to watch and fun to play.
-
I played the tech test for this game the past few days. It was so much fun I was sad when the tech test ended and just found myself wanting to play more of it. The game feels very satisfying playing as the victim/survivor. You feel the sense of urgency to escape from start to finish. The overall atmosphere of the game is incredible and I can't wait to experience the full game. I'm glad its only 2 months away because this is definitely a game I will be buying and playing a lot of.
-
I think the unhook BT effect should persist for as long as you're in the killer's terror radius or general area. That way if they do decide to tunnel you they won't be able to just wait out the buff. It would be a simple punish mechanic for tunneling survivors. They would have to rework the BT perk to do something else if they did do this.

Sounds like the killer won the game fair and square.
We cannot keep requesting nerfs for every single inconveniencing thing that we find. Just take the L and go next.
That isn't the point. If there are situations where half your team is still alive but escaping feels impossible then there should be some balance around that. The problem is that there are too many moments like this and its entirely based on the killer's power. Had this been another killer, say Trapper for example, the situation probably wouldn't have felt like this. The killer's power in this situation made doing gens impossible because of the constant back and forth to the last 3 remaining generators on the map. The killer didn't even have to be at the generator. They were able to interrupt gen progress from a long distance which in my opinion is too much in the killer's favor.
@nars said:
It looks to me more like the killer played well. They used their power in a fundamentally smart way that led to a victory. If gens are how you win, and your power is how to defend them, its only logical to do just that. Plsu when it comes to artist if the gens were really that spaced out you could just hop off of it when you hear the caw/count down the cooldown.
I see what your saying though, there are some scenarios that seem unwinnable. But most of those scenarios happen because one side played better than the other. Should adrenaline be nerfed because it makes an endgame chase unwinnable? Should artist power be nerfed for being able to pressure gens really well at 2 kills?
Artist should not be able to endlessly pressure gens from a distance. That particular power is too much. A few times is fine, but there should be some kind of cool down after so many uses so they have to patrol the gens like most other killers. Maybe 10 charges then it goes on a 30 second cool down.
-
This has happened to me before. One time I had a killer say they were going to specifically target me for not farming and did just that when I got them again. Even the survivors on my team (who were the same people from the other match) teamed with the killer to get me out of the match from the start. This is why we need a more effective block list in the game. One that prevents you from being matched against players who do things like this.

The FNAF fanbse is basically in the same situation than the Harry Potter fanabse: Y'all need to move on, for the good of everyone, but you don't want to.
There is no situation. Harry Potter fans just want to play a fun Harry Potter game. FNAF fans just want to play FNAF games. That is the only thing that matters. If done well, a FNAF chapter would probably be the biggest DBD chapter ever. I think it could potentially even top the first RE chapter.
-
FNAF in DBD would be a huge win for the game. The thought of being able to run around Freddy Fazbear's Pizza shop with random animatronic jump scares is exciting.

I made a thread about this a few days ago. I've long seen slugging as a major problem in this game. It ruins the survivor experience and feels unnatural to the game.

Its one thing to leave a survivor on the ground for a moment while you engage another one you saw nearby, but when you leave the last 2 survivors on the ground for an entire bleedout knowing there is absolutely nothing they can do about it then that is when slugging becomes a problem. This pic below was taken after me (Kate) and Mikaela crawled across the map hoping they'd hook us so the match would end. Mikaela eventually made it to me and the killer decided to stand there and wait for us both to bleed out. This is why we need basekit abilities to deal with these situations. If nothing exists to deter and discourage killer players from doing this, they will keep doing it. The killer has no strategic advantage at this point. They already won, so the intent is clear. They only do this to be toxic.

Why are you playing this game? It sounds like you just want to play Dark Souls.
I just want to play DBD in a way that isn't so focused on perks and whether you picked the right perks to deal with the situations you'll be facing in the next match. Assuming your next killer is going to play a certain way and making a build around that is frustrating especially when your build wasn't at all what you really needed. I'll get a match where the killer tunneled a lot or made doing gens a lot more difficult than normal and then make a build for my next match to try and counter that just to have a match where that loadout didn't benefit me much at all. For the most part I usually just use a simple totem cleansing and faster healing loadout as everything else just feels too random in if it will actually help you. A lot of perks only activate under certain circumstances and I find myself not using those perks at all. I tried implementing deliverance in my builds but I would forget I even have it most of the time because of how infrequently I would get to use it.
I'm starting to feel like we have too many perks, or that the game is too heavily revolved around them. I think it would be interesting to start seeing more abilities worked into the basekit of survivors. Obviously it would need to be balanced around killers too so don't get the wrong ideas here. I've seen a few overreactions to my OP already. This is just an idea that would obviously need to be implemented in a way that is fair for everyone. It also opens the door for more ideas to change the way survivor and killer interactions happen. Some perks offer ideas for this, such as the original dead hard.

Only fair.
You didn't read my original post, or are completely disregarding it. That is in no way fair. You're responding as if I am asking for unconditional, unlimited dashing from start to end of match. That is not what I said at all. You are completely irrational about this.

Baskit old deadhard... Sounds balanced.
Not to mention that game is not designed for 360 either. Just because this is hard and dont work everytime is not an argument at any means. 360 is legalized mechanic abuse, and killer fov abuse.
I've always been of the opinion that DBD needs to go through a fundamental change in just about every area, especially gameplay. That includes both sides by the way and not just survivors. Only being able to run and be at the mercy of windows and pallets is repetitive and boring after a few games, especially if you've been doing it as long as I have. I know everyone may not feel the same about that, but I think it would be cool to see a complete overhaul of the mechanics of the game in how survivors and killers interact with each other.
-
Favoritism towards the favorites? Sounds like good business to me.
-
As much as I like WoW, I feel like Diablo would probably fit better in DBD than WoW would.
-
I would like to see Lee, Carly and Kenny be survivors in DBD. I'd say Kate too, but maybe as a skin for Kate Denson. For the killer it could be Lilly. I watched a full playthrough of the entire game a few months ago and it just seemed to all go downhill after season 1. The first season though was incredible. Overall the Walking Dead franchise has a huge fanbase and if it ever came to DBD it would probably bring a lot of people from that fandom to the game.
-
Probably a fully activated devour hope perk. Cleanse those totems!

The anti camping feature isn't meant to be a trade off with the killers. Its meant to punish killers for doing something they shouldn't be doing and giving the camped survivor a chance to escape the situation. If you aren't camping "gen rushing" isn't likely to happen anyway since you'll be playing normally by checking generators and interacting with survivors. Some things in the game just need to change for the better without needing to appease the other side. Gen pressure mitigates "gen rushing." Nothing currently mitigates camping effectively that doesn't greatly increase the chance of the killer just camping the person that tried to save the camped person. Sometimes its even impossible depending on the killer.

He definitely should have a flowing hair skin in the game. 😄

The whole point of the idea is to give hooked survivors a way to escape a situation that puts them in a greater disadvantage than they should be in. There is no reason to be this close to a hooked survivor without some form of intent of camping. I really do feel like the killer players who keep trying to find some huge issue with this probably rely on camping way too much to secure an elimination. Survivors are starved in utility access for many situations in this game. This change will address one of those areas.

Sounds like a big incentive to tunnel when all you have to be is a few meters away and now survivors are forced to go for hook saves faster. The simple truth is camping has been a long time problem in this game and now finally something is being done about it. Killers aren't "playing" when they face camp. They're actually refusing to play until the camped survivor is out of the match. That is why they should be punished by giving the camped survivor a means to escape the situation by theirself.

Yes I did argue that because pride month is around the corner. Of course im gonna use that. And i really dont have to explain more about his character because for one, i wanted to make the post short and sweet to the point. And two, we literally already have a pinned post about david king on this forum that has been pinned for over a year explaining the impact of his character meaning alot to him. And being gay adds on to it. I really dont have to go more into detail when that post in itself explains everything for me about him and how popular he is and impactful to the community
You didn't reference that post at all. You said the devs are ignoring their first lgbt character to which I said was an unfair thing to say. You could've reiterated your point and mentioned how much the character means to you and in a nice way said you would like to see more cosmetics for him. You didn't do that though. You went straight to pointing fingers at the devs saying they are ignoring him.

It is tokenism of her. Because they did it before with feng racially by giving her a lunar year event and a prime reward in the same month when any one of those outfits couldve gone to any other less used characters like jake, yui, etc. Instead they give both to her. I dont have a problem with them using this tactic to boost their sales, but i would like to see consistency by giving these opportunities to other characters besides her on special occasions. And david deserves it because he is popular on the male side of the roster. They even confirmed it themselves when they revealed his sexuality.
I don't think the Lunar event was done just because Feng is in the game. Other games do Lunar events (World of Warcraft and Overwatch come to mind) and its not because they have any particular character in the game.
Its fine if you think David King should get more cosmetics, but you did argue your point based on his sexuality by mentioning him and pride month as a concerning reason to you why he hasn't received more attention. Sometimes I wonder if David being gay is the only thing about him people care about.
