can a dev give me an honest answer on why david has been getting neglected since he came out as gay? like im not saying that its intentional but its weird

But you are implying it, because you mentioned him being gay in connection to his lack of cosmetics. I feel like some people want this to be the case because every time I see the subject of cosmetics for David brought up his sexuality is always mentioned.

  • Finally! Now more survivors will go for unhooks. I've seen way too many killers camp a hook just to use it to grab survivors from unhook attempts.

Im hearing david may not even get new skins during midchapter. Im just gonna call it like it is. They say they care. But there actions says otherwise.

This is completely unfair criticism. They have given more focus to the lgbt community than any gaming company I know of. You have 16 pride themed charms in the game. How can you say their actions say otherwise? Do you want the entire game to just turn into one big bull horn for LGBT activism? They still have to market this game and make money from it. If the data shows David King is trending within the game I'm sure you'll see more cosmetics for him.

Yeah you've lost gen, lost hatch, and killer used a counter to deal with gate camp too.

I don't see any problem here, it's not like hatch escape matters for you anyway.

Not exactly related but you even have 2 hooks.

The perk gives too much of an advantage to the killer. That is the problem with it. There are several perks and even addons that basically give the killer an extra power with too much control over situations like this one. If you read my OP, I simply suggested to make it so it requires more than 1 survivor to activate. In a 1v1 situation there is hardly any reason to try. You have to interact with an exit gate immediately which then lets the killer know exactly where you are. Then you have to hope the killer doesn't find you (they probably will) and hope you're able to interact with the exit gate again before the timer runs out all the while evading the killer again so you can even have enough time to do it. This is far too much end game power for a single perk to give. It needs to be changed.

  • Of course they drop significantly when you eliminate one survivor. The objective requirement doesn't change when someone is eliminated. 4 survivors or 1 you still need 5 gens done to power the exit gates.

Tunneling is bad for this game.

  • This should not be a thing in DBD.

But why promote our differences as a means of solving the issue?

If you are you, and I am me, and we are human, then surely we don't need to add anything else to it.

If we segregate ourselves into all these groups, then all we are doing is bringing attention to our differences like they are something to be analyzed, rather then saying I am a human just like you, so I am going to act like a human and do what we humans do.

My Dad once said something to me that never left me.

He said, "Back when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s, all I wanted was to be able to walk down the road safely, and to be treated like everybody else, like a human being, rather then be treated like I was some abomination or different to anyone else around me, nothing more."

That changed my perspective forever, he didn't want pride marches, special representation and to be singled out for the way he was born, he just wanted to live his life like everyone else.

I think the world we live in now is many, many times better then the world my Dad grew up in, now a days if you walk down the road holding hands with a same sex partner, or in clothes people don't think you belong in, sure maybe a few people will be idiotic, but that number is significantly smaller then it was, and gets smaller every day.

All the battles have been one, all we are waiting for is the War to end, and time will see to that.

I completely agree. It seems counterproductive to the cause when people segregate themselves into groups revolved around gender and sexuality. Now there are flags for specific genders and sexualities. What is the point of it all? It all seems very narcissistic to me. I don't see how any of this brings lgbt people any closer to being accepted in the world. I think its much more effective to simply create characters and implement them in stories the same way any other character would be. Not being set apart or highlighted because your gender or sexuality is outside the norm.

Keep hearing this. Still would like a reason why this matters. Its important to those who it is important to, I understand this and will not discount it. But I still seek education on why. if its different for everyone individually, then nvm. That would be enough for me to understand.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3470817#Comment_3470817

    Call'm out. Who?

You're exactly right. Its important to who it is important to. The notion of "representation matters" is not a universally held belief. It doesn't matter to everyone. In fact I'd argue most people don't care about this. I believe it is a complete waste of time and resources to try and represent the diversity of the world in fiction because it might resonate with someone out there. Instead I think creating characters that will appeal to as many people is possible is a much better pursuit. This is why I mentioned super heroes earlier. They appeal to large amounts of people even though they are often completely different from everyone in the world.

Well idk if this is too much for the forums so the mods can warn me if it is.

But when historically LGBT suicide rates are pretty high due to years and years of oppression, hatred, abuse, and even straight up murder. They forced the LGBT community to create Pride as a way to show the world that they exist and will presevere through the hatred that's 100% unwarranted.

Pride also serves to inspire other LGBT individuals struggling with their identity to realize its not shameful or inhuman to be LGBT and they aren't alone in their struggles.

If LGBT people were treated respectfully and kindly, do you truly believe Pride would be a thing? I doubt it.

Most LGBT people would love it if being LGBT was irrelevant and never something that needed to be brought up outside of normal contexts, but that's not the world we live in, and non-LGBT people created the dynamic that exists today.

If you think Pride is obnoxious and want a world where no one cares what your sexuality is, blame the people who hate LGBT folks and be an ally in fighting discrimination, together we can achieve that future.

I don't think a world void of discrimination is possible. It will always exists in some form. However I do think how the lgbt community presents itself to the world is most important and will determine how much it becomes accepted in the future.

Good sentiment I agree, now can you tell that to people actively harming others in real life for their identity or does it only matter when people ask for LGBT content in video games?

Shockingly enough LGBT people didn't decide that their identity is a big deal, everyone else did and is continuing to do so.

Then what is the point of pride month, pride parades, pride celebrations and the lgbt community in general if not for making identity a big deal? I may be misunderstanding what you're saying but to me these things do seem to set themselves apart and highlight identity to a high degree.

What? Representation isnt about knowing a characters kinks... at all... its so people can feel normal and see themselves in the characters they play. By this logic people who want to see ethnic diversity are just obsessed with race and need help.

I think characters and their stories serve better as inspiration rather than representation. Super heroes are a great example of this. A character like Superman inspired hope both in and outside of his universe even though his story is not something anyone can really relate to. No one is an alien from another planet crash landed on earth raised by farmers, but Superman is a character than resonated with people from all over the world.

But there could be a couple more. Doesn't even need to be mayor like it was with David. Something like a cosmetic for Yui that says it's a font memory of a past girlfriend would already do the job

It isn't a bad thing to leave a couple or even the mayority ambiguous

They really can't do that now. Well they can, but they'd never hear the end of it from the community. They opened the door with David. There's no going back.

And before anyone says, "But what about Nurse, Felix and Legion?" Yea, they could've done all characters the same way they did those. Instead they made a big deal about David being gay which was anything but treating him the same way they did with those characters.

Is the killer not supposed to stop everybody like the in-game manual says?

Not without consequence. Survivors should recover over time, not die over time.

  • Not sure if I should make a new post about this since this one basically still covers the same problem I mentioned a year and a half ago. I just checked the cosmetics and noticed they still have the graphical error shown in the picture above.

The Kate cosmetics below changed after a patch back in January 2022. All of these cosmetics used to sit lower on Kate's waist. A fix for this would be appreciated.

All of her Jorts including the bloody jorts.

    Slit Leather Skirt

    Americana Denim Pants

I think the Line Dance Jeans and Cowgirl Jeans may have been affected by it too.

Well by BHVR's own admission he was one of their most popular male survivors. Then they just stopped.

I see David often. I just don't know how much people who play him are willing to buy his cosmetics. Usually when I see David he has his default skin on so it may be just newer players playing him to grind out shards to buy other characters.

  • Giving David pride themed cosmetics during pride month would basically just turn him into the token gay character. As far as why not anything else I don't know. How marketable is David King?

It's about inclusivity, not exclusivity. Edit: also, this should be quite obvious, but country flags make a game political, which doesn't belong in a game.

Video games are already inclusive. The lack of these things does not make a video game hostile to any person.

I can't use it tho, I've been rate limited after using it for 10 minutes

Elon did say the rate limit is temporary to deal with a problem on the site so I doubt this is any long term change. I do know you can get verified and increase the limit to 6000. Either way, its still the most active place for communities as far as I know.

  • Your best option for what you're looking for is still Twitter.

  • Its absolutely necessary as well as the anti camping changes coming soon to deal with this long standing problem within the game. Don't forget that it is because of the excessive camping and tunneling that killer players have done over the years that these changes have now come to the game. Your situation seems to have had the basement spawn right by an exit gate in the killer shack. If a survivor unhooked themselves without the help of a perk like deliverance then I don't see what there is to complain about here in the context of it being unfair. They pulled off something that rarely happens in the game and you want that nerfed? I think that is unreasonable.

They should be ignored if you want to save the most valuable asset survivors have - time. 14 sec is a lot. Devour hope is hex, I specifically mentioned dull. Of course you should cleanse hex totem. Risk of NOED is not worth 70 sec plus travel time + risk for Pentamento.

I have seen killers 4k too many times because 1 dull totem was up at the end of the match. As long as that factor exists it is always worth cleansing all of the totems. I use counterforce to speed up the process.

  • I still have about 200 flan from last year on Kate and a few on other survivors.

  • Ignoring totems is not an option when perks like NOED and devour hope exist.

  • My friends who got me to play DBD have long since quit the game. Its not even something we talk about anymore. You can only be camped, tunneled and slugged so many times before you just don't care about the game anymore. I'm not sure how much longer I can tolerate it myself. I just got eliminated from a match that had 3 cake offerings with 4k base points. There is no fun when you're out of the match quicker than it took you to get into it.

Are you aware the deep Wound timer pauses when you're running? This means, in a chase, there is almost no difference between being in Deep Wound or being plain injured outside of Endurance interactions. Screen is a little darker but that's it. You will not die if you keep running, and even if you stop for whatever reason, it'll take 20 seconds of standing still before you drop.

And if you're struggling against Legion essentially getting a free injury, then that's on you. After the first hit, Legion is essentially powerless.

"If you keep running" is the problem here. It locks the survivor into an endless chase with no other option than to run. Its only problematic if legion cancels his power. That is my only issue with this. It forces the survivor into an unrecoverable situation.

    @nars said:

what??? So... an intended gameplay mechanic is now an exploit?

I've always felt the intended gameplay of legion is to use his power for exactly what it was designed to do which is track other survivors. I'm noticing many legion players not doing this and simply using it to force survivors into an unrecoverable situation. That is why I suggested for the deep wound to wear off over time IF legion deactivates his power and continues to chase you. That only seems fair to me.

  • @Crowman said:

Killers can't pre-break pallets. Survivor get to abuse pallets by throwing them down without counterplay. We must remove that if we're going to prevent legion from cancelling his own power.

I only think legion's power should give him the benefit of tracking and not overly pressuring a survivor with a deep wound that they cannot mend in chase. The survivor is forced to keep moving or they will go down from the deep wound effect. In my opinion its exploitive. Also I never said anything about preventing legion from cancelling his own power. If you read my post I said that deep wounds should cancel out if legion continues chasing a survivor with deep wounds after canceling his power. Its really not asking for much and is a very needed balance change in my opinion.

  • @DaddyMyers_Mori said:

When I hit someone in feral frenzy and don't hear any heartbeat, why would I not commit to that chase?

And people should really start thinking about using word "tunneling". It's so overused, same as genrushing.

The maps are literally in the killer's favor with a power like this. Doesn't killer instinct activate when survivors enter the terror radius? Just hold W in a direction for 5 seconds and you'll probably see somebody.

    @StickySlasher30 said:

I stopped reading when you said "abusing"

They aren't abusing nothing, this is intended gameplay design

If you're having trouble with M1 killers then you have a severe skill issue

Skill is largely irrelevant in this game for survivors. Once you learn the basics there really isn't much more to learn. You run at the same speed with no sprint ability. There are only pallets and vaults to use which are limited. The game is very basic. We don't exactly have a lot of options when in chase with the killer. Its really just run until you get downed or the killer chases someone else.

    @Crowman said:

If only we can also stop survivors from abusing using pallets.

Killers can break pallets. Survivors cannot mend and are forced to endlessly move if chased with deep wounds or they will be forced into the dying state. What is the survivor supposed to do in this situation with having to deal with deep wounds that only goes away if you mend it? Its completely unfair that legion can abuse this power on a single survivor when its designed to help them find other survivors.

The OP wrote this "I just think it would be nice to see more stuff/skins for the black men in the game." Hardly a tall order. Nor are they asking for something obscure.

Anyway I know you always pop up in these types of posts and people have expressed clearly many, many times why representation is extremally important (people with much better writing skills than I) so if you still need to ask "does it really matter?" I give up.

If Adam Francis was as popular as Feng or Meg you'd probably see more cosmetics for him. Thats the point I was making before.

This idea of representation being important in video games is something I find completely irrelevant in my opinion. And yes I've seen all the arguments. You may think its important as well as other people and thats fine, but I highly doubt this is a widely held belief or value amongst the gaming community. I really don't think most people care about this stuff. People can request more cosmetics but I also think understanding why some characters have more than others is important too. Some characters in this game are simply way more popular than others.

Video games aren't made to represent you. They're made to entertain you and make money for the people who developed them.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3462487#Comment_3462487

When someone asks for representation they are not asking for someone that looks identical to them.

Representation and diversity is a broad spectrum that can never be fully expressed in one particular project. The question is will what they do ever be enough to satisfy everyone this is a concern to, and does it really matter?

  • It really all comes down to what is marketable.

sometimes it’s just nice to see yourself represented.

The only way they can ever really do this is with a character creator with a lot of customizable options. You'll never really have this with a character or skin unless they put you in the game. Some characters may share a few things similar to you but no one will ever fully represent you more than you.

  • @nars said:

if the anti camp wasnt on its way I'd agree with you. Camping before endgame is just unfun and skilless for both sides with the only real counterplay being to slam gens and let them die. But afterwards camping is 100% fair game so it should stay.

I see it as a problem throughout the entire match. The power difference between killers and survivors is too much, especially when killers use certain addons.

  • @TheArbiter said:

Not saying in this situation they should've done this, but being fully healed eliminates sounds and blood pools which can help in winning chases, so healing is still recommended against devour

I disagree. Healing without medkits takes too long especially if the killer is using perks that slow it down. All 4 of us were injured and spread out except for the one survivor following me around. By the time we were all healed we'd probably all be dead. Its better to have all 4 survivors looking for the totem rather than wasting time doing anything else. It takes priority in this situation.

  • As far as I know the only instance you could report them for this is if they say something bad to you in the chat and admit to specifically targeting you because of this. I don't think this is "running rampant" in the game. I've never seen anyone admit to playing like this after the match as far as I can remember and I've been playing since before any of these charms were ever added to the game. It happens, but I think most players just mind their own business.

  • @ChaosWam said:

I've legit hunted down survivors I come across who do this to their teammates.

    Professionals have standards.

I've had many killer players go after survivors who do things like this. They know what they're up to. I always have a lot of respect for players who have an eye for these situations.

  • The other thing that isn't fun is having the killer teleport to your exact location without an easy way to counter it in a game where killers are faster than survivors. The fact we have to constantly manage the killer's mechanic to avoid having the killer constantly right beside us is already annoying. All the killer has to do is place the traps near generators then survivors are stuck in a constant EMP loop on top of having to deal with everything else.

  • @Quizzy said:

So im pleased with Into The Rainbow charity event. But we need more representation for the characters in the game when other games like overwatch are doing it better. We only have one canon gay character. Even then, that character has been ignored with lack of new cosmetics and no mention, no tweet acknowledging him on pride month.

We need to do better. And its tiresome to see us move at a very slow pace.

For the majority of Overwatch's existence the game only had 2 lgbt characters that were made so years after the game released. You wouldn't even know it unless you heard about it outside of the game. It took 7 years for them to do what they did this year so I highly doubt doing this stuff in their game was on the top of their priority list.

    @JackOfTrades said:

Activision & Call of Duty be watchin'...

I don't think they were expecting or were prepared for the amount of backlash they got and are still getting over that. If video game companies would focus on their product rather than activism then these things wouldn't happen.

  • @nars said:

So the perk is fulfilling its purpose. You get tokens by not tunneling, if you are the last survivor vs nwo then they didnt tunnel and got 3 kills. Why should they be denied value because of that? Its especially powerful in closed hatch situations yeah, but it only lasts for half the timer. Just proc nwo asap then play normal when its gone.

I'm not suggesting the perk deny the killer value. I am arguing the perk rewards the killer with too much value. This is a problem with several perks and addons for killers in this game too. Survivors know that going for the door after the hatch is closed is almost asking to be found and eliminated. It takes perfect hiding and timing even without this perk to get the door open. No Way Out makes this play too difficult by forcing the last survivor every match to go straight for the nearest door and if the killer is using NWO then they now have to deal with the killer knowing exactly where they are and somehow evade them. It doesn't take much for the killer to check every wall and corner near exit gates and survivors leave scratch marks when they run. Sprinting away from the door after activating this perk will likely just give away your position anyway.

The point is, this perk gives too much power to the killer based on mere circumstance. It doesn't matter if the last survivor tried to wait out the killer's patrol pattern to the doors. If you fail to activate the perk right after the hatch is closed then you will die. This is unfair advantage in my opinion.

  • @DaddyMyers_Mori said:

It's not unique to this perk.

You will never leave by gate as single survivor against Whispers unless killer wants to.

Then you have some killer powers that make it near impossible, mainly Trapper and Skull merchant. Then you have killers with high mobility.

I would say you should be simply more motivated to find hatch. If you didn't, then you are unlucky and dead unless killer has good mood.

But is that really major issue?

You lost that game. You lost fight for hatch.

The survivor loses the game when they are eliminated, not when they don't find the hatch first. The door is still able to be opened after the hatch is closed. There are just certain killer powers and perks that make it impossible to do which I see as problematic.

  • @Bardon said:

If the killer has all four survivors on the ground, then they out-played all four on chase and managed to keep them from reviving one another.

Sounds like they played far better than the survivors in this case, no?

I hope you understand that if every killer decided to ignore the hooks entirely this game would be the most miserable, unfun and boring experience for survivor players imaginable. Killers would camp the first downed survivor forcing the rest of the team to let them bleed out. The entire game would turn into nothing but altruism and there would be little to no time at all to work on gens.

  • @H2H said:

Apparently if all survivors go down it’s through no fault of their own, they have no obligation to do anything to help each other or run away or hide and should just win by default.

I prefer the killer not be rewarded for playing this way.

  • This is why I can't convince my friends to play this game again. The killer decided to hook 2 and left me and the other survivor to bleed out. For what reason you might ask? For some kind of tactical advantage to "win" the match? No. They did this to be toxic.

    Trickster too strong.... Trickster...

Why not complain about Trapper when you are at it?

"Killer can down me with his power." Oh my, so powerful...

The trapper and trickster are 2 very different characters. My issue with trickster is the strength of his power, particularly with the speed of it. I think with how fast he can put survivors in the wounded and dying state at range the power has too much control in a chase situation. This is only problematic on outdoor maps which make dealing with this killer significantly harder. I've tried avoiding the knives many times and found that on outdoor maps doing this is very hard to do. It feels similar to the plague's power in how difficult it is to avoid being hit by them. Running left and right in chase hasn't been effective in dodging these attacks. I really don't know what else to do to avoid trickster's power while in chase in the open.

  • @Devil_hit11 said:

I've even been downed by the knives before the sprint burst was over from the first wounded state

that is funny. maybe try not running in a perfectly straight line when playing vs a ranged killer? He is suppose to be less reliant on basic attacks. that is whole point of being a 110% m/s killer. Trickster is too weak. he needs buff. not negative changes. too weak for a 110% m/s killer. more m/s when holding knives would be nice for him.

Yea the trickster had to do the impossible task of moving slightly to the left or right when I did just that... He doesn't need a buff. His knives do too much damage too fast. From a long range no killer should get that much power that quickly.

  • I don't like the idea of moris being worked into the match without the use of an offering or perk.

  • I think this is a great idea. One of the biggest problems with solo que is no one knows what everyone is working with and its rare to get good value from perks like this.

  • Survivors cannot pressure the killer in any comparable way to how the killer can with slugging, especially if they decide to slug 2 survivors. The only thing the other 2 can do is try to pick them up or lose the match. 2 survivors aren't going 3, 4 or 5 gens before the killer finds them. The 99% gen gate argument is something that hardly ever happens in solo play and is a SWF tactic. Solo que survivors will always lose against a killer that uses excessive slugging to win. This is why the amount of time killers can leave a survivor on the ground needs to be limited. Survivors can come and pick you up but if the killer sees you its over.

  • It was so cool they got Nicolas Cage to come to Summer Games Fest and make a stage appearance. I don't think anyone was expecting that to happen.

The survivors should be punished for not looping well and grouping up rather than splitting apart. They should also be punished for not coming in equipped with the counters for a play style they don't enjoy, just like killers are expected to come equipped to counter survivors doing gens as fast as possible and using strong loops. Survivors do not deserve their hand held when they perform poorly.

All these perks and your argument is for every survivor to use the same loadout forever because killer mains can't stop using excessive slugging. There is too much reliance on perks. I'm of the opinion many perks should be worked into the survivors basekit abilities. In all fairness, some perks can be worked into the basekit of killers too.
