Not everyone can afford the ridiculously priced new consoles.

Plus, I find it ironic that fog and tall grass had to go because of preformance issues, but giving Kate a smoother face is a priority over people with old hardware.

The "new" consoles aren't really new at this point. They are very expensive now, but they weren't always this expensive. It makes sense that, eventually, a game outgrows old hardware. Sorry πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

  • I mean, I personally will just enjoy being an even more obnoxious basement Bubba who camps harder now. Take my grabs, can't take my camps though πŸ‘οΈπŸ‘„πŸ‘οΈ

No, every time anyone wanted to address tunnelling or camping, the thread got snowed in with 'valid tactics' and 'can't win without it' comments. Killers asked for tunnelling and camping to be protected.

No, killers didn't ask for it, they simply pointed out that because of how the game is in its current state, camping and tunneling is a viable way to secure kills. It doesn't mean that wanted that to be the most efficient tactic available.

You're conflating the issue by suggesting that because killers pointed out an objective fact, that its what they wanted all along, which simply isn't true.

  • I don't know if this'll make killers camp more. I think killers will camp because some killers choose to camp.

I will camp if survivors try to dive bomb the hook. I will also camp if survivors have been flying through gens and I need to secure a kill. Gen time being increased won't make me camp just because.

    That's just me though πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

learn how and when to chain loops instead of sticking to them. The artist needs to slow down to place her crows, and there are a few tells like the noise and the speed that her red glow moves that you can use to tell without seeing her directly (like at loops with high walls, for instance.) As soon as you see her setting up, break off to the next loop in the opposite direction as her. As long as you make the read right, you will gain distance on her every single time, at least enough to reset the situation at the next loop without needing to waste any resources.

Her crows themselves also have a lot of quirks to them that are very helpful to know: The big crow has both limited range and direct collision: meaning it needs a clear shot with no obstructions, and it generally only reaches on the same tile its placed (or equivalent length.) She will always try to place them at places like window vaults and pallet drops, bottlenecks, along long walls, etc. If anything is in the way and breaks the big crow, the flock doesn't actually do direct damage. yet.

The flock is its own unique thing, as it has to be removed to prevent the next flock dealing damage. The time to remove a flock is only very slightly longer than the time it takes for her to recharge her power and line up another shot, let alone release it. If you are dispelling the flock as soon as you can, there are very few situations she should be able to land a second hit, even with the addon that helps with that specifically. For the most part, simply don't ignore the crows and you shouldn't be able to be harmed through double taps. There are some niche situations where it can be forced, but they usually require staggering two shots from the same volley at multiple distances: She's generally only ever going to land them if firing at you on a gen from further away. If you get hit by crows while on a gen, simply run to the side and get rid of them before going back to the gen to finish. There's a trick to getting rid of them as well:

Lockers. Lockers instantly get rid of any flock swarm, while vaulting resets any progress made dispelling them. Basically if not in the TR and there is a locker nearby, it can be the fastest and easiest way to clear em. Particularly useful on gens with lockers right near them, but keep in mind a "near-miss" will give her killer instinct to know where you are, and KI can see through lockers. Not sure how this applies regarding the crows flying by a locker you're already in, but something to keep in mind.

Another thing worth noting: Its not uncommon for artist players to use aura perks to help with hitting shots through walls to force a flock (or even set up in advance for the bottleneck they expect you to go toward) if there is a clear shot. Pay attention for perks like I'm All Ears if you think they might be trying to railroad you a specific direction, especially after vaulting. Sometimes it can become somewhat obvious if theyre using said perks, which can help you prevent running into a relatively guaranteed shot, especially if she hit you with a flock before the vault (remember, it can reset their duration as well.)

The last thing is elevation: flocks will climb slopes 100% of the time, and will not descend after. If she has to shoot them up a hill or up stairs to fire in your direction, they should harmlessly go over your head. The slope is the important part, it is the only thing that will cause them to ascend (not 100% on descending down slopes, never really thought to test them that way) so if fired through a hill from one of its non-sloped sides for example, it will stay at ground level (most likely done this way to have the power work properly on multi-floor maps.)

She follows a similar strategy as most trap-based killers regarding loops: You can stick with a loop until they start trapping it, then use that setup time to gain distance and reset the situation to force them to commit. The rest of the nuances are good to know on how to handle particular aspects of the power, but thats probably the most important rule.

Edit: One thing I forgot to mention: If she has a trap down and you run though it, you don't take the hit from the big crow but get swarmed instead. Can be used to "break up" traps at loops by other survivors, if you see someone being chased nearby and feel particularly gutsy but don't have anything like a flashlight.

Thank you so much for the massively detailed post ☺️ I already feel more confident if I have to face her now. I have played a few matches against good artists since making the original post and reading your comment and I actually did marginally better! I appreciate you taking the time to write all of that out and sharing your knowledge with me!

I will give you a guess as to how many gens they completed during my time on hook lol

  • Sadako needs some tweaking so that condemn stacks aren't the only viable strat for her in higher tier games. However, I don't think they need to get rid of it, just buff her and give her more options so people have a choice about how they wanna murder survivors πŸ€™

Half-decent Huntress with Iron Maiden. One is more than enough.

Get better at juking. It isn't the killers fault you can't serpentine and zig zag around.

  • Love everyones choices and some of the people saying they just play to goof off 😊 good vibes!

I'm also happy to see more people than I would've expected picking Sadako. She's one of my faves but I rarely every play against her when I'm playing survivor!

Jake erasure once again. :/ Why does everyone forgot about my man, he was one of the original four!

People can "go on record" and lie or also change their mind lol.

People who are willing to do that grind should get it. I'm on console so I would've never had the opportunity to grind for it, which I definitely would have. The OP's idea is a relatively good one.

And with the recent changes, if the killer is in a position to use it, you're essentially dead regardless. At least it's a stylish way to go.

Another fair point. I suppose it's more the killer will quickly tunnel and mori a survivor to get an edge early. It's valid, but it sucks.

  • @Laluzi said:

This post would have made sense two years ago, but at this point, with DS having been wholesale replaced by OTR, trying to pretend moris do anything beyond look cool is a major stretch.

The frequency I have been seeing ebony Moris is unreal. Killer can efficiently tunnel someone and mori them to swing the game in their favor fairly quick if they are good. This is my experience, I'm sure it differs from yours, but that doesn't mean it's not valid.

Eh, maybe you're right. I'm hoping I can play a few round without seeing one πŸ˜…

I'm a solo q survivor main and I dont really have an issue with them.

What do you think it's oppressive about them?

Multiple games in a row with high level killers running ebony Moris. It gets a bit much when they 2 hook someone and immediately mori. Can't slam gens that fast and my team is at an immediate disadvantage once someone is gone. I never had an issue with Moris until now, I see them so often.

  • @RiskyKara said:

Did you just go against a pig player that denied your DS with a mori by chance?

No, it was the multiple games in a row against killers running ebony Mori πŸ˜… I also don't run DS, ever. I typically main killer. I play survivor to just break the monotony during my sessions.

The Mori is getting reworked anyway, and I have my fingers crossed that they'll be a BP compensation for the ones players have in their inventories.

I rarely ran a Mori before their nerf -- only for dailies and for the occasional key user. I can count the number of times I've run one since on one hand, with fingers left over. They're not oppressive -- they're not worth using, other than to maybe dodge a DS or a flashlight save on death hook, and that's so situational, there's no point to them anymore.

If I had to take a guess, the Mori rework is because the devs saw how often Moris were run prior to their nerf, and that the numbers you see them run now are a very tiny fraction of what they were (and why have people in your team work on neat Mori animations for each killer when, aside from the 5-stack Devour, no one is ever going to see them?). When the killer brings a Mori in my survivor matches now, it's akin to seeing Bigfoot or a UFO. There used to be that moment of "uh, oh" when you realized the killer had one during the loading screen. Now, it's more like "meh".

6 games in a row today with the killer running ebony Mori. I see them more now than I did before. My luck can't be that bad

But they aren't "able to do nothing" they just want to do that same thing they always do and be rewarded for it. There is plenty of gameplay to be had even against a good nurse.

How much do we have to pander to the I only have fun when I win crowd?

I'm a killer main, just saying a good nurse can ignore mechanics of the game and it isn't fun for a lot of people. Survivors can only use the mechanics they have available and nurse literally ignores those things.

the two things are not connected at all...matchmaking incentives are for assisting with matchmaking times for players, it's not to do with the bonus BP that was removed from those two perks

Ok but can you really balance dbd? remember it's assymetrical so balancing in dbd is like shooting someone and almost killing them in an fps, but they don't have a gun. and you have to make sure they're having a good time.

you can't compare it to anything! across the board all assymetrical games ex. evil dead, vhs, propnight, currently have unbalanced matchmaking. if dbd were to fix this issue they'd have to get creative such as matching people by perks, the solution will never be matching people based on skill, time and time again that has shown not to work in dbd, or any assymetrical game.

They will never be able to perfectly balance it but expecting a better match making system than what we currently have is like...bare minimum. If people are content with the current system I feel like they are matching perfectly most of the time or they have low standards. Either way, I expect a game I play to have at least competent matchmaking and right now, DBD doesn't have that imo.

literally everyone said gg in the post game. oh god how good this game could be if the matchmaking wasn't pure garbage...

    This, 10000% this.

During games where the matchmaking works, this game is in another league. Even if i die, I still have fun and felt like I contributed to the overall enjoyment of the game. So rare those games are though.

just gonna say, its sadly the truth that tunneling is now the best way to get kills

also you didnt mention what build or killer your using, i could help if i got more information on that.

it simply could be your playing a killer your not good at, is underpowered, or your running a build that isnt good

also try playing other killers, im a demo main but hes the killer i play the least because of how much ive burnt out on him, causing me to do worse in my games

and last thing, not trying to be that guy to tell you to play survivor but play survivor, it can always help you get better and also help you take a break. im a hard survivor main yet with all the techs and things i know it helps me not do dumb plays as killer, try and win a survivor game, boost your confidence and go head on into killer.

(after playing this game for 1000+ hours i realized that sometimes you just shouldnt play if you dont want to, even if your trying to grind, it can usually wait, but now with the new patch on tuesday it might not be able to if you need to prestige)

Thanks for the well thought out answer πŸ˜„

To start, I do play survivor a fair bit, I just prefer killer as my main πŸ‘Œ

I play many different killers, although I have been gravitating towards the Onryo and Nemesis lately. Usually I'm a PH main. My build varies depending on what I want to do, but I always have some kind of balance between tracking and gen regression.

I have a relatively good grasp on most of the killers in the game aside from Nurse, being on console I feel hinders me a little bit when it comes to playing Nurse.

I honestly feel that the biggest factor in my aggravating games is the matchmaking. It isn't (in my opinion) an issue with my builds, it's more a massive skill gap where I'm just not at the same level as the survivors I'm playing against.

  • @ThiccBudhha said:

You should try Overwatch, maybe it would give you a newfound appreciation for how great this matchmaking truly is. I feel spoiled playing DBD compared to that hell.

I do actually play overwatch sometimes :) Admittedly not every day, but enough. The matchmaking in Overwatch is pretty bad, but for me it is the experience of each game. In Overwatch, my team may get stomped but I'm still helping my team and getting kills in the process. I feel like in DBD, the bad games feel like a waste of my time because I made little to no progression. Personal opinion of course.

In case it's something you aren't aware of, Nurses are weak to 360 and console players tend to excel at it. Granted it works less and less against the more experienced players but sometimes a slight edge is all that's needed.

I will try to remember this ☺️ thank you!

  • As a console player who has cross play on, I only ever have an issue with Nurse when a sweaty comp style PC nurse decides to make solo Q casuals an absolute nightmare.

I don't think she needs a nerf though. I just can't beat a high level PC nurse while I'm on console haha

All right, let's try to have a thoughtful, organized, and productive discussion. We all know what camping is, and unless you're a player who likes to camp, it's generally seen as a problem.

Of those people who see it as a problem, there tend to be two camps. One camp is made of people who think, "It sucks, but that's human nature. The devs can't do anything about that." The other is, "The devs can fix it. If they make changes to the game that discourage--or even prevent--camping, camping will be a thing of the past." If you are someone who believes the devs can prevent/dissuade camping, please explain your ideas on how that can be done. I assume there will be more than one answer, since different Killers have different powers (Bubba camping is a different scenario than Trapper camping). So, what are your ideas? Please explain.

    ***IMPORTANT****

I know there are some of you who have nuanced opinions--or even totally different opinions. Some of you think, "If a person buys a game, they can do whatever they want. Your feelings about that aren't important." Others think, "Grow a thicker skin and move on to the next game." Others think, "It's a valid strategy--even if you don't like it." I understand you have your perspectives. However, the purpose of this thread is to hear from the people who believe the devs can change it to explain how. I'd rather stick to that topic than get lost in a sea of various opinions. Please keep that in mind. This is a very specific thread topic, and I want to understand those people's opinions and ideas.

So I guess my question is, why is camping considered a problem by you?

  • This has to be satire...

The DC penalty is in place for people like you who rage and leave games because it isn't young their way.

I've been farmed before, it sucks major butt, however, I accept the L and take my runner up thanks for trying amount of Bloodpoints and move on to the next game.

tbh this chapter has a huge flop because survivor and killer perks are totally useless, the only decent thing of this chapter was the map, the killer imo is boring to play with and boring to play against

Honestly, I like the killer, I really really hate the new map. Survivor playground with multiple windows in the main building. It creates some garbage situations where I almost always leave a chase if the survivor runs into the house. Massive waste of time to try and close the gap in that house unless the survivors play it wrong.

Slug and down the others. This is a you problem.

During the EGC when I'm trying to get a single kill because I won't net any others. Yes, it's as easy as "sLuG aNd DoWn OtHeRs". This isn't a me problem, this player base' answer for everything is either buy a bunch of killers to spend all your bloodpoints to get their perks to have a chance to see them in your bloodweb eventually so you can counter this bull **** OR it's not the game, it's you.

It is very much allowed to be a game play issue and to me, this is. During the EGC an extended wiggle timer won't break the game because the other survivors can choose to leave. If they take hits to body block, they MIGHT save their friend, but it happens too often that body blocking is the optimal thing to do with very little repercussions.

This is my opinion, you have yours. No changes are going to come from me posting this but you better believe I stand by what I'm saying. As you've already done, feel free to disagree.

  • @Crowman said:

Nothing needs to be nerfed here. Wiggling and Body Blocking are fine and as a killer you have perk options specifically for dealing with body blocking (Mad Grit, Starstruck, Agitation, Iron Grasp).

So buy a bunch of killers I don't want or wait till those perks show up in the shrine. No thanks.

  • @Seanzu said:

3 survivors not doing gens, taking hits so if you chase they're one hit down, and you want to make it almost a guarantee you get hooked?

Like c'mon man, 3 survivors rarely tank hits and it's even rarer a survivor breaks out from tanked hits

During the EGC. I should've been more specific, my bad.

  • Update: I see more and more survivors burning Macmillan estate map offerings, tbagging at the exit gates after I score only 1 kill. God damn the game has become even more frustrating and demoralizing to play.

You've got this! I think you'll need some time to sort out what works for you in the current state of the game. As others mentioned, metas have shifted, there are new perks and killers, etc. you will find your groove again! And hopefully even have fun experimenting with what the game offers now.

You're a lovely human for the supportive words ☺️ Thank you!

I want to enjoy this game again! I'm sad that I seem to be having way more luck with Nemesis than I once did with someone like Pyramid Head (my favorite killer!) But it's definitely more fun after playing enough games!

What time of day are you on? Killer is consistently more unpleasant to play the later it gets in my experience.

I'm usually early morning or early evening. I will say, my games have been slightly better today as killer. There still seems to be at least 1 or 2 very skilled survivors per game, but I can reliably get 2 kills now. I'm hoping to get back to my 3k average sooner or later πŸ˜…

  • @MaTtRoSiTy said:

Unless you go against average solo queue players, the game is extremely balanced in the survivors favour. It can also be very RNG based so if you get bad RNG you are more or less doomed to lose based on that alone, which doesn't feel very fair.

There is also massive perk bloat with survivors having so many 2nd chance perks or just plain broken perks (like COH) which make things harder still for killers. Gen speeds are generally pretty rough but for killer you have many band aid solutions to fix this underlying problem and the game tends to push you towards oppressive gen control builds just so you have a chance.

I think the game is not in a good place which is why I am not playing at present and coming back now would be pretty rough for that reason.

Well said and informative words my friend. It's unfortunate that some matches come down to RNG. I played a match on Larry's against 4 Aces. All but 1 seemed very skilled. I only got a kill because I downed the weakest of the 4 and camped during the EGC. Felt scummy af but I wanted the kill.

I hope the game finds its way into a healthier place eventually.

It's entirely possible you just need to play a few games for the MMR/SBMM system to pin down the right numbers for you. If it's been a year since you last played, it very well may not have enough data. Cause if i remember correctly, it didn't automatically bump everyone down to the lowest numbers. There was a period of time where it was in the background, gathering information on your matches before it was actually deployed for matchmaking. It could just be that it's going off the most recent data it had on you, which may not be accurate anymore.

That's really smart actually. You might be right! I'll keep on the grind and see if my killer matches get any better! Thank you 😁

Im having an impossible time learning the game with the current matchmaking system. Rank 16 killer and always up against a group of purple and red survivors bullying with flashlights and body blocking. Why do low rank survivors who all survive against a high rank killer feel the need to then name call, and rub their win in after chat?

They name call and rub the "win" in the killers face because they get their kicks from making others feel bad :( I'm sorry you've been dealing with crappy people in DBD. I promise that not all of us are that way though!

Yes, everyone -including the devs- know that matchmaking isn’t working properly currently. That’s why SBM is being worked on.

For the DC problem: currently the disconnect penaltys are disabled because of the crashes and issues that came with the chapter 20 update (I at least think that is the reason). Once penalty’s are enabled again there should be fewer DCs again..

Ah, I hadn't realized the dc penalty was disabled for that reason. Thanks for the information πŸ™‚

as a good Slinger myself, let me share a few things that i very much struggle with when playing as him:

    1) Survivors using LoS blockers to their advantage when looping. this refers to people who i found around jungle gyms etc, where i only have windows to shoot through. said windows do give me a chance to beat the loop without just walking after tham as a 4.4 m/s Killer, but if the Survivor is aware of the windows location and waits around the corner to see whether im gonna try and aim through it or not, those people can be a real pain to chase.

Additionally to this, people who drop pallets quickly and keep their distance make it very hard for me to actually land good shots on then and then reel them in. Pallets are very safe against this Killer, as he cant hit you over them like he can with windows (be careful though, there are a lot of pallets he can also reel you around and hit before you get to the other side). you shouldnt get greedy with your pallet loops, as essentially all i need is having a LoS on you for a few seconds to shoot and reel you in.

    2) Survivors out in the open. Caleb is a very precise Killer, so shooting people out in the open is usually a much harder task than shooting them in tight spaces. When i play Caleb, i always try to wait with my shots until the Survivor is in a location where its harder for them to dodge my shot. especially long range shots are very much dodgeable by Survivors, short range however hardly is (you'd have to correctly predict my shot and then dodge it beforehand - which ive had happen against me ngl).

in general, most Calebs will shoot you in pallets, windows or doorways. if you have a Caleb behind you and you see a doorway, the Deathslinger player is probaply already preaiming said doorway - fake going in there, then turn away from it last second and watch their spear hit the door.

    3) stealthy Survivors. this one is pretty self explanatory, i cant shoot what i cant see.

    4) efficient teams. he struggles a lot with map pressure, so gens will fly by. he has nothing to deal with genrushers (as much as i hate it) and people who are just generally good at their gen game.

if you decide to genrush, do be aware of his ambush game though. He is still very good at that, so i'd advise against it - heal up somewhere and then go to the gens.

in general: be careful of your positioning, especially when healing. dont just sit out in the open, that gets you ambushed very quickly.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share this knowledge with me 😊 I've played deathslinger a few times, but not at a high level. My understanding of his powers and weaknesses are still developing.

I'll give your advice a shot and see how I fair the next time I play against a good Deathslinger πŸ‘πŸ»

Again, I really appreciate the lengthy response and information from your perspective as a good Deathslinger.

    Have a great day!
