Absolutely- in structures where someone is using it reactively you can bait it out, and you can position yourself such that they don't have a straight shot to continue a loop.

However, when you're chasing a survivor after, say, breaking a pallet and forcing them out, and they would in any other situation be downed because they don't have the time to reach the next loop... there is nothing the killer can do to stop them from pressing E and lunging forward to reset the chase at another loop. That's not the same thing at all.

Either one of those is arguably not OP, but combined they are absolutely too much value for one perk to have. The perk should only provide one, and my pick for which one is is the one you're arguing for, because you're right: it's fair, it's balanced, it requires good timing and gamesense to be used and can be outplayed by superior timing and gamesense on the other side.

I don’t personally believe that Dead Hard does that much in the instance you are describing to warrant it a nerf or a change.

Again, why are we only focusing on the value it gets and not the value it lacks? Because as far as I am concerned balance works both ways. As in, yes it shines here but in many other situations where it would be just as important to get distance it does not see any value whatsoever. Which in turn makes me believe it is situational at best.

There are many other situations where other perks do the SAME thing with other exhaustion perks.

You're injured on a gen by a hill and nothing else, press forward and activate SB/BL.

You are injured next to a window and see killer approaching, press forward and vault to activate Lithe.

Do these scenarios not (for a lack of better term) “rob” your hit too or am I missing something? They do.

You know why no one wants to talk about them? Because they are much more annoyed by Dead Hard doing it.

Well, surely you'd agree that it's very silly to limit the discussion to just a deadzone. Nothing works in a deadzone, that's kind of what makes it a deadzone to begin with- even a well timed Sprint Burst only might help you, and none of the other Exhaustion perks will.

It's not as though you're always in an open area. I'd argue you're quite rarely in an open area. If there's a loop nearby to get to, Dead Hard for distance cannot be baited, it cannot be outplayed, and it is an incredibly strong effect on top of the strong effect the perk is supposed to have-- and it's not as though that "if" is particularly unlikely. The nature of the game is that there are a lot of loops around.

Now, if your overall argument is that Dead Hard to dodge a hit is not OP, but Dead Hard for distance is, then we're in agreement.

It can be baited but even in structures if you know how to position yourself. For example, you cannot curve with DH so in many instances you CAN mindgame and out position the survivor. Additionally, it all boils down to the distance the survivor has to get to said area, if the killer doesn’t pre swing, you aren’t whiffing and giving them that additional time because even if they vault a window, most of the time you will hit through it.

As for the open area discussion, it’s not silly when it is relative because where other perks shine (open areas) Dead Hard does not. I think it’s unfair that people want to take where a perk shines and boil it down to “I hate it so it should be nerfed”. I mean if that’s the case why aren’t we talking about all exhaustion perks? Because they too bare the same significance when you are talking about them being used for distance.

Well if u get hited and use the sprint bust to go to a open area while u have deadhard, u don't know how to use it.

Ok so you don’t have an answer. Got it.

I specifically asked to provide 1, just 1 example where you have successfully used DH in the open (a position survivors find themselves in a lot during a match).

You can’t gain distance if you’re already injured.

Seems to me like you are nitpicking your scenarios in order to claim it needs nerfing.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2829381#Comment_2829381

Genuine question: How do you bait Dead Hard for distance? How do you capitalise on that bait when someone uses Dead Hard that way?

    Good question!

I assume you are talking about my response I just provided, so I am going to assume you mean in an open area.

Its simple. You get very close behind the survivor and not swing. They will end up wasting it because it does not give them the distance that other perks such as SB, BL, or Lithe would.

That's probably cause u don't know how to use it, deadhhard is in the same situation as old ruin, ruin got reworked cause ever killer was using it, 80% of the killers at red ranks, deadhard is the most used perk from the entire game. It can buy u a completely new chase for free, and It rewards u for playing badly. As same as noed does for example. It's not a "us vs then" post, I have 2000 hours in the game, I play both sides, and I + 99% of people think that deadhard is at the very least unfair

Yeah I don’t know “how to use it”

Please provide 1 example where Dead Hard actually worked in an open area against a killer who knows how to bait it.

    I’ll wait.

  • “Everyone knows dead hard needs a rework”

Really? Who exactly? The killer mains that can’t stand one perk that is only good in certain loops, because god forbid it is strong enough. Even though in open areas it sucks.

  • "Everything is far too easy for survivors to dominate"

So do you not think there is anything the killer can do to dominate? Because that is so incorrect.

Your post honestly sounds like a lot of complaining because you had bad matches. You provide 0 evidence of what YOU yourself did, to even begin to give you proper feedback. Simply saying "Killers are weak because survivors bring these things" is not enough.

Agree, but I dont want bubba nerfed just because of people abusing the face camping ability.

Him as a killer is fine, the silly face camping for a 2k isn't. Mainly the devs fault with the SBMM.

Any idea how we can nerf the camping but not his actual kit

Honestly, I think the devs could find a way to ease/tone down face-camping by only allowing him to down 1 target, should he remain idle for x amount of time and IF all other survivors are holding M1 (working on an objective that progresses the game).

This could be on cooldown. So should if he engaged in a chase (meaning he went to find someone) again, the single target cooldown would immediately disappear. This way it wouldn't affect those Bubbas that A) Went back to the hook because they saw a survivor sneak by B) Punish a survivor who just divebombs hooks.

All other killers aren't as much of an issue, because at least there are some work arounds and how face-camping doesn't really become a cheesed playstyle with them.

Also, I think EGC should not affected by any of it, since at that point it is pretty much anything goes, since there is nothing else the killer can pressure.

  • I hope he does.

Facecamping Bubba is one of the reasons survivor's side isn't fun. He basically makes what is already an unfun action even worse.

Do I think that he is weak without facecamping? Absolutely not, but he worsens a problem that persists in this game.

  • I was waiting for the part where I was supposed to be encouraged to "quit".

Guess it never came. So I'm staying!

  • What does No Ed counter that survivors use excessively that is built in?

    DS - slightly counters tunneling.

    BT - slightly counters camping.

    UB - slightly counters slugging.

All of which the killer can and are known to use countless of times.

So, I ask again… what does No Ed counter that survivors are utilizing in order to warrant not complaining about it?

Because the reason you see them so often and why they are so meta is because of those 3 things I’ve listed.

  • Not everyone uses DH and if they are more than likely they like to be chased.

Seeing as there is no other exhaustion perk that works in the manner that DH does, it makes sense many would use it. Let BHVR make another Dead Hard-like perk (one you can use while in a close chase, not to gain big distance) and you will see a variety. Until then, you’re stuck with seeing this one.

  • No but the problem is that rather than people focusing on what about it is bad, people would rather blow it out of proportion and say it is bad.

The concept is not bad, the execution was.

  • Imagine judging others and saying they are “whining” but you sound more whiny in your own post. smdh

  • I miss the old Freddy animation where he put survivors to sleep. THAT’S IT.

  • While I am 110% sure many would love to see it fail and die. No it is not.

  • I am sure to some extent he HAS to be turning his camera ever so slightly to make sure he knows when they are coming for you.

THAT stare is just too on point. Too skilled for newbie eyes.

  • Meg, being a runner irl I connect with her.

I still technically main her but Dweet is basically my “male” main.

I just wish Meg got better cosmetics. Her most recent ones have been lackluster IMO.

  • I am excited for a new chapter.

As for it being Ringu, I’m more intrigued to see how her power will be realized in-game.

MMR has nothing to do with it it's laughable you actually believe it exists, they clearly are just throwing people wherever they get a match, I could literally 4k a good squad and turn around and get noobs the next match who can't do anything right

Was just getting ready to type this lmao

People still believe in MMR conspiracies it's hilarious.

  • I will try to take aggro for as long as I can, especially if I know the location of boxes etc. Watch the timer on both EGC and their trap, if I feel like there is no use, I leave then.

They kept you off totems and played the match with 3 perks.

Played the match with 3 perks?

They could only bring No Ed and it would still a badly designed perk. That is why most good killers do not run it. It is not rewarding and it feels cheap.

  • For me it’s simple.

I have nothing against the effect itself, but the design behind the completion of the survivor’s main objective giving the killer an advantage just sounds bad to me.

Like, shame on me for not doing totems, but what did they do exactly ? Aside from simply existing and breathing, that warranted them getting a buff and survivors getting a de-buff for completing their own objective. Seems silly.

  • @Mandy said:

Entity feeds on hope, the survivor shouldn't feel hopeless - otherwise why would they bother playing the game?

And regardless of popular opinions, Killers do not get nerfed due to complaints - changes are made in line with game balancing.

I don't know, somehow the handful of people on these forums have convinced people of the opposite.

That survivors complain and a killer gets nerfed. lol

  • I don't think they need to give killers the option to break it, just that if a totem if snuffed then that same survivor cannot bless that same totem for a period of time. Forcing them to look for another totem.

Im sure you wont play as well as when you use comms with friends are a little bit more coordinated but never the same.

Funny you say that because we've actually tested it out. We weren't able to make some calls like telling each other what the killer had in terms of add ons, or where a hex was. In general though, we found out that that stuff didn't matter since we were all capable of figuring them out ourselves. The core part still remained and that was that we were all reliable and efficient.

Someone was camped and the other person traded hooks to buy more time. If a person didn't have BT, they knew to at the very least take a hit so that the person with BT had a chance to go in for the save. Those are things not all solo queue survivors just are willing to do. Which has nothing to do with communication.

  • @Mandy said:

I remember the time before SWF was introduced - there was the option at the start of KYF and SWF and KYF was implemented first (disclaimer before people jump on that, both were always intended).

Survivors just used to lobby dodge until the got into the lobbies with their friends (not difficult to do even now if you're in the same area). That actually caused bigger issues for matchmaking having lobbies being dodged all over the place. People are going to want to play with their friends, it's only natural - this can be a party game for many players, not everyone takes the game super competitively and a lot are casual players who want to have fun with their friends.

Also, a lot of SWF do not even discuss the game properly when they're playing - it's not so much information that they're passing to each other but misinformation and trolling of each other.

Also, I've been accused of being in a SWF a lot of times, when I was not - because the players coordinated together. That happens more frequently than people realise, which then again leads players to assume they're playing against SWF.

Yes coordinated SWF teams are strong, nobody is denying that. And a team of 4 solo survivors is the weakest section of the game, but fortunately as it's been mentioned, there are tentative plans (nothing confirmed) to address that issue.

I think it's important to note the why solo survivors aren't as efficient as SWF though. Not all of it has to do with plain communication.

My friends are more reliable in general meaning that they will:

    • Take a hit once in a while.

    • Take aggro.

    • • Do a gen without hesitation.
    • • Save and not let survivors to go phase 2 even when they are near the hook.

I could go on and on. Things that aren't even relevant to communication or lack there of. We could play without comms and still do just as well because we rely on each other.

  • You're right. It's not.

We know this because a killer who gets stunned by DS can continue to chase that same person.

  • Here is my stance on this perk.

I have not had one instance where I felt like the perk by itself did anything substantial that dramatically affected my match.

Some of the only matches where I felt they got what they wanted, were survivors who clearly brought it as part of a build. Meaning that they sacrificed other perks that could have been useful against my playstyle.

On the topic of slugging. Slugging is already being excessively exploited in matches so it doesn’t really make a difference in terms of “oh do you want more of this?” Why? Because survivors have already adapted to the idea that nothing is going to be done about it. Same with camping.

Yet god forbid anyone bring those two topics up as “issues” because they are immediately met with “Bring DS or UB” … so a perk to counter a tactic that only lays at the hand of does the killer want to abuse it or not. Interesting, you have a perk (Agitation , Iron Grasp) that could soft counter BO (same as with UB and DS) but somehow that isn’t ok.

I wanna see the same type of energy when it comes to the other things that are annoying yet somewhat counterable and then I’ll get behind an adjustment to BO.

  • When did they say they were “working” on it?

Last I heard was they were monitoring it along with DMS.

    Two very different things.

  • Never thought I’d see the day when someone would ask Boil Over to be killswitched.

  • It’s funny to me how he is so pressed about one perk, but so many killers already slug till the survivor bleeds out who don’t have Boil Over.

    If we go with my way;

First, generators will not fly because game is balancing around hooks, this mean everyone will have enough time.

Second, after this changes camp & tunnelling will nerf too and maybe this will make killers lose the game. Punishment will be harder.

Third, all solo survivors are not like this. Solo-q needs infos. What is my teammate doing? Who is going to save? etc. This info buffs will make Solo-q better. Potatoes will stay potato and they will stay on low mmr with low mmr killers.

I know not all solo survivors are like that, but the majority of the complaints stem from their lack of being efficient. Now, you might think it is because they lack info but so many times I have brought Kindred only to watch them crouch next to my hook because they don’t have BT and aren’t willing to take a hit for me.

SWF is often successful because of the reliability it provides. Yes they can communicate better, but even if you were to mute each other, you’d still see them being efficient and knowing that you might have to take someone else’s aggro at some point. Things like that.

  • Comodious with BNP, Built to Last, Streetwise because I will most likely have to do at least 3 gens myself.

DS, because half of them don’t have BT.

and last but not least, either CoH or Self care in case I need to heal myself.

  • @MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:

Killers should not need camp & tunnel for kills. If you can kill only with this way, there is some issues. So...

Buff Solo-q obviously because they are weakest side of this game. And balance game around hooks. If you balance game around hooks; camping and tunnelling will be issue. So nerf this strategies. Probably this will be fun for everyone. I would gladly test on PTB.

There are killers who do not opt to camping and tunneling all the time.

At some point even the best killers will opt to tunnel where it makes sense. All I see sometimes is players who think they have already lost (at 3 gens or their ruin got popped) so they want that one person, even tho they might have gotten more kills if they had tried.

Solo Queue survivors do not need a buff. How do you buff someone who constantly wants to hide and refuses to touch gens?

  • DS = Because killers Camp. Camping which is a playstyle available in every match. Since survivors have no way of telling whether a killer will opt or not to use it, they feel more inclined to bring it to have a half way decent match.

    BT = See above reason.

If BHVR actually disincentivized excessive Camping and Tunneling, you would see less of these perks because they wouldn't get much value out of them. For now, as long as killers continue to use these "tactics" survivors will continue to bring those perks.

DH = Only exhaustion perk that allows you to extend a chase while in a short loop. If they made more perks like DH, you would see survivors mixing things up and bringing other exhaustion perks.

  • The SBMM is broken like… your… heart?…from your last relationship?

Play anything you want. Who cares what the killer thinks about it?

They don’t ask you permission or your blessing when they put on their sweatiest load out.

You specifically used the word "killer" and the rest is disambiguas "they".

Maybe stick to the general "others" if you don't want to be called out for anything.

Yea? Because the killer DC’d. It was in response to the OP. So if they dc because they are upset who cares? Play how and with what you want. Just because I add the word “killer” does not mean I was referring to them as being in the wrong for what was said. They are in the wrong for dcing against something that they find annoying, when we could easily list away builds that are just as annoying for survivors.

As for the rest (which is the part that we should care about) is how this community has gone from simply being annoyed to outright wishing someone to die. It is rather alarming

  • Why are you responding to my response to somebody else?

The killers build doesn't exactly look sweaty though...

I never said their build was sweaty.

I made a general statement that you shouldn’t care about what killers think of your load out because the first thing people usually say is “don’t play by survivor’s rule” so that same rule applies to survivors too.

The killer is from console it seems.

Perhaps you missed the context, but I was clarifying to another party that OP seems to be shedding some light about the new low this community has reached that they (anyone who would do this in this case the survivors who made those comments) would wish death upon someone for using a freaking perk.

Well, I mean, he clearly cares what people think about it or he would not have posted here.

I don’t think OP cares about whether or not they are ok with his/her build. If anything they are shedding light in how disgusting this community can be to tell someone to Kill themselves simply because they are using perks. That’s how low this community has reached.

  • Play anything you want. Who cares what the killer thinks about it?

They don’t ask you permission or your blessing when they put on their sweatiest load out.

  • By bringing in new blood.

There are many people that have yet to try out DBD.

  • Honestly with the amount of cheating going on they need to ease up on the dc penalty. I am not talking about completely getting rid of it but at least the first and second should not come with a timer.

At least until they can get a proper reporting system that doesn’t require you to present video evidence of someone who is cheating.

  • I'll remember the killer is human too when I am being bled out on the ground for absolutely no reason.

  • I think it’s because Power Struggle doesn’t count unless you press the button outside of the skillcheck.

My friends and I tested this on PTB, I thought it would change.

Edit: Then again the pallet did drop. So that’s weird.
