If the killer snuffs out the Boon Totem, it turns the totem back into a dull one. The Survivor can then choose to rebless that totem or another one.
Also, whilst they have a Boon Totem blessed, if they choose to bless another one - then they can, and it will remove from the original blessed totem onto the new one.
(edited as I keep writing Boom instead of boon!)
Such an awesome idea from the devs.
At high MMR, ruin + Undying last most of the time 30 seconds top.
Now, with these boon totems, everyone will be looking for totems to light them, they will find ruin/undying even faster.
And well, no scratch mark on 1/4 of the map is unbearable lol... it will be impossible to down a survivor in a jungle gym when the totem is enlightened, creating total safe places around undone gens if survivors are smart enough.
I'm wondering, with the current state of the game, how this idea could merge in a think-tank... Do the game designers even read reddit/this forum and watch some streams from high skilled players ?
Honestly, i won't play killer anymore pretty soon i guess, and many will join my boat.
-
They have to finish their work on the maps, reworking all of them is a must as it's the main reason the game is not balanced.
Then they will be able to work on new ones.

There have been a ton of threads about Pinhead needing significant changes, and this point is echoed throughout them: the chains need CONSISTENCY, BHVR. I have pretty much given up on playing Pinhead because of this problem. The chains SHOULD NOT BE AFFECTED BY WALLS, WHATSOEVER. To any survivor player that says "oh but then there's no counterplay" no, the counterplay is DODGING the possessed chain! Which is incredibly easy to do!
The most insane part about this problem is how difficult it is to land possessed chains at a distance OR at point blank range. Chain coming at you from a distance? Change direction, wait a moment, then do it again. The turn rate of the possessed chain cannot account for a fake out like this 9 out of 10 times. Did a gateway spawn right next to you? Do the same thing, OR run under it making it almost impossible for Pinhead to track you, or just make the chains flat out miss. It's not impossible to land a chain but the fact that there's more than a FIFTY percent chance that landing your very tricky skillshot, one of the hardest in the game, gives you literally NOTHING makes this killer worse than garbage. All you have to do, BHVR, is remove the wall interaction. Or, hey, wanna buff him even more? Maybe make them actually function like chains? If they touch an object, they could get caught on said object/wall/corner and prevent movement even further rather than just snapping like they're made of ######### twigs.
I am so genuinely disappointed we aren't get any changes for Pinhead in this mid-chapter. First it was the voiceline removal, and now he is showing to be the most non-functional killer they've added in ages. I have never had more buyer's remorse for a killer with how much time I've tried to invest in him. please fix him!
Devs are not good at the game, i mean they don't play at a high level so the fact that they don't know how powerful a killer is at start is ok but when the whole community, with the most well known streamers, have ALL the same mind about a killer, why don't they listen ?
It's impossible to understand for me.
-
But this build is only working against average/good enough soloQ/duoQ.
Once you play against a SWF or high skilled survivors it doesn't work anymore, as with most killers though... this game is pretty much unplayable at high level for killers.
Why ? Because there are other major flaws concerning this killer's powers.
- When you chain a survivor, in many maps with many objects/walls, the chains will break almost instantly, the power is then totally useless.
- Chain hunts can be stopped for 3 survivors if the 4th is taking the box that appears on the ground during the event. That's a terrible idea. Chain hunts, once triggered should last 1 minute and that's all, the cube should not appear on the map till the next "prepare for chain hunts event".
Those 2 points make the killer really really weak at a high level of skill as most survivors will loop around corners to break chains easily and when chain hunts is triggered, one survivor, the one you are not chasing of course, will always go for the box.
In that case, the killer is just the worst in the roster, without any power you can capitalize on. He is then just a M1 killer.

Well if you killer is hard now you would of hated it on release. No windows got blocked, was always a fast vault, was more pallets, hooks could be 99% at all times BNP insta repaired a gen. Trust me you go through all that you have a big advantage over new players lol
5 years and we came from "killer has not a single chance, at all" to "killer has no chance against a high MMR survivor composition".
So ye we came from a game totally unplayable for killers to a game barely playable for killers at high level.

If you are sometimes matched with well known streamers, you are surely high MMR.

I think SWF needs an indicator in the lobby, that way the Killer knows what kind of match they're going into and can plan accordingly. Sadly there's nothing a killer can use that will effectively counter a well coordinated SWF on comms, but at the very least killers should get a faster bloodhunt effect, or something similar.
If SWFs are shown to the killers, they will dodge most of the time.
SWFs are incredibly powerful to the point the trial is never balanced. Devs should remove 3Q and 4Q.

@Nayru said:
hoarder doesn't guarantee you can disrupt opening the box, particularly if they have a wall nearby
and really nobody should be going for box early if they even remotely suspect the pinhead has hoarder or franklin's
best case scenario is immediately start chain hunt due to someone going for the box early for zero reason (starts a chain hunt on themselves when otherwise there would be no chain hunt) + nicking the box off of them, but it won't stay out of play forever and a few actual chain hunts per game won't make or break it unless the pinhead is insanely on point
For the wall problem, use your chain and it cancels the box opening, giving you room to catch up.
Use add-ons that tremendously increase the time to resolve the box.
Fact is, the survivors have to take the box early, they can't wait for the last seconds to take it or they risk to be out of time and chain hunts starts.

Then it's the survivors fault, why would you open the box so close to the Cenobite? The amount of amateur survivors in this game is baffling
AS explained by the previous comment, when a survivor pick up the box that is on the ground, the killer has a notification and see an aura. The n the killer just has to go to the location, start to chase the survivor, give one hit to take the box and start the chain hunts. :)
-
@Kurri said:
I don't understand that sounds like a terrible build, and that isn't how you play against Cenobite. Pick up and solve the puzzle box before a chain hunt happens. He is a slow m1 killer, he's not going to make it to you in time while you solve the puzzle box.
Yes before the chain hunts happen but if the cenobite takes the box, he will start a chain hunts.
That's the point of the build, have a notification for the survivor taking the box, go for him, hit him, take the box. Trial is over.
-
@Firellius said:
This assumes the survivor attempts to solve the box within such a short distance that you can reach and hit them before they finish. Otherwise, the box is solved or consumed by a teleport, isn't it?
Ye, you must not teleport. But Hoarder gives info around 64 meters... pretty much the whole maps (around 12000 square). Just check the movements of the survivors and you will notice where they are going, the one going for the box. Once you used the box, the game is pretty much over as everything go south, the chains are everywhere, one guy has to go for the box, others can't do anything till it's not solved, maybe one is hooked and the other one has to go for the save, just look again for the one looking again for the box. etc...
It's an infinite loop.
Use this build and you will get a DC every trial 😂
To catch the survivor before the box is solved, use items that increase the time to solve it.

How long are your soloQ queue time ?
Mine have increased a lot this week-end, it looks like there is a huge decrease in killer number...
-
There are way less killers now, soloQ queue time at a high MMR are really long while they were always instant till the last update.
So with the Spirit nerf, there won't be any killer left...

How is this thread still going? What did I miss?
Even if there were a way to balance an asymmetrical game that could be anything from a 4v1 to a 1v1v1v1v1 (there's not), did someone provide actual proof one way or the other to substantiate or disprove @tester 's idea of balance?
From what I've seen, @tester is saying that if there are 2 kills and 2 escapes, then it's balanced. That's what the devs want, so that's the goal. But... @tester didn't post stats to prove him right, no one else has posted stats to prove him right, and no one has posted stats to prove him wrong. There's been no concrete evidence to support any claim posted by anyone.
So, until someone has actual concrete numbers to post, which seems to be the only proof he would accept, why is this even a discussion? He can't prove his claim, no one can disprove his claim, and I have yet to see anyone who says "prove me wrong" to be anything other than puerile in a discussion.
The devs' idea of balance is their goal. That's what they go for when making decisions on what to add or change in their game. It's a concrete thing to strive for that they can put actual numbers on. We, as players, do not have to give a crap about the devs' goal in terms of applauding them if they reach it. Our goal is to have fun.
The devs have concrete goals and metrics to use because things like "fun," "immersive," and "optimized" are experiences, they're what you hope those goals achieve. Are the majority of players having fun right now? That's what matters to us. The 50/50 balance goal is for the devs.
No he is not stating that 2K/2E is balanced.
He says that if you win 50% of your trials it's balance even though it would be like : you loose 3 trials at top MMR, you derank and then at this lower rank you win 3 trials in a row then for him it's balanced...
Which is not what we call balance, you can't compare two different trials to say it's balanced.

How do you know they were best?
"You don't believe it ? It means you are playing on a low MMR. Ask every good survivors here, they will tell you exactly the same, killers are loosing almost all their games." Ahh, No True Scotsman fallacy combined with Appeal to Authority fallacy. Nice one!
Because the whole community know that in some tournaments the best killers and SWF were present. ######### is wrong with you trying to argue about everything ?
I know it cause i have been playing DbD almost since launch and i have lived every update, i have been around when all the best players were still playing and i have watched some tournaments.
It's not an argument of authority. If you play soloQ and you and the survivors you are matched with are loosing most of your trials, it means you are at a fairly low MMR as at high MMR, survivors are almost always winning.
So now, you go check the streamers i gave you, and you will see it.
All the top players of the community are saying that the game is survivor sided at high level but you come here to try to convince everyone it's not true cause it looks like you have a hard time winning lol...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gv2bElLrx0YOne of the best survivor DbD has known. Enjoy. It's individual escapes in the old system but he mostly played with friends.
You will notice they are all escaping most of the times :) (all alive when doors are open). He did this live on twitch, red rank killers. Now convince me it's balanced.

Tournaments didn't have game balancing mechanism on: SBMM.
Edit: to cut it short, just post a link to your twitch channel and I'll count your wins over a long period of times (at least 30 matches). Sounds simple, right?
Tournaments were the best killer vs the best SWF, why do you talk about SBMM ? SBMM = high skilled survivors are put together. I tell you on my side, the killer rarely has more than 5 hooks when 3+ survivors escape.
You don't believe it ? It means you are playing on a low MMR. Ask every good survivors here, they will tell you exactly the same, killers are loosing almost all their games.
It's not because you cant do it at your level that it is impossible lol. Looping with a killer 80 seconds, are you able to do it during most of your chase ?
If yes, then 1 chase = 3 generators. It's as simple. And yes, good survivors can loop a killer 80 seconds without sweating...

I'd love to see a proof of that. I'm serious: if you have a twitch link to team that wins all or almost all (your words) of their games, I would love to see it. This would definitely prove me wrong.
There have been plenty of tournaments to the point they had to restrict survivors perks/items/add-ons to balance it.
I play survivor at high MMR in soloQ and i win (3 escapes or more) 3 times out of 4 lol... Go up in skill as a survivor and you will see it, gens are done in less than 5 minutes, everyone is spread on the map, 1st chase = 3 gens, 2nd chase/3rd chase = All gens done, door is at 99%.

"Fact is at high MMR you cannot win on a regular basis, it's impossible unless you camp and tunnel, which is lame in my opinion." You are not supposed to win on regular basis. Just half the time. Yes, agree, camp and tunnel. Yes, agree, not fun. I never claimed it's fun how it's balanced. But... If you don't like to camp and tunnel to win, than stop doing it. It's in your hands. All you have to do is stop insisting that you win more than 50%. I removed all slowdown perks and now my games are still same win ratio, but are much more fun. It's that simple.
Even half the time, you won't win. You can take the best killer on DbD vs the best SWF, the killer will never win or almost.

"his win rate is 50% but the game is not balanced at all." Win rate 50% is how I define word balanced. You can have your own definition, but then we would be arguing about apples and oranges.
So, let's take another exemple.
Let's take Soccer. Take a Premier league team, this team looses 3 games in Premier League, we drop them to second league and the team wins 3 matches. 50% win rate. So is it balanced ?
Balance is in ONE TRIAL between the best survivors vs the best killer, both have 50% chance of winning.
Balance is not you take the best killer, match this killer against unbeatable SWF and then put the same killer against garbage SoloQ to artificially create a 50% win rate.
A balance game would be : the best killer is top MMR and get an average of 2 kills/50% win rate at this MMR level without droping in lower rank.
Fact is at high MMR you cannot win on a regular basis, it's impossible unless you camp and tunnel, which is lame in my opinion.

I'm not very satisfied if I'm honest.
I feel like it's gotten a little better, but it's still far from perfect.
A week ago i had an evening in which i had a nice / good team in almost every game.
Beside that evening it happens to me too often that i just get really bad teammates.
How about you?
Not perfect but better than the old system.
Advice, at start, go away from your spawn place to start a gen to the opposite side, it will change your trials a ton. Just doing this will improve your win rate.
Most survivors, even at high MMR start a gen directly at their spawn and then you often end up in a 3 gens situation if you do it too.
Also, if there is a gen on the middle of the map, it must be the 1st gen you do or the 2nd one. Do it as most survivors won't go there as it is "dangerous".

The title stated the game is "perfectly balanced." Were it so it would be balanced in all aspects, at all levels of play, on all killers. One match playing Pinhead on Lerys will prove that none of that is true.
A game will never be balanced at all levels of play. A game must be balanced around Top MMR (top players). Why ?
Because you can't balance a game around ppl that don't know how to play good as no matter what you will do, they will still play badly.
You have to take in account only players that know how to play the game optimally. :)
-

You have any proof of that 80%? I'll wait for it.
Never said it was official stats.
Just took those numbers as you said if you loose a few games, derank and then win a few games, it's balanced but it's not.
Balance is high level vs high level = 50% chances of loosing.
If someone is loosing all his trials or most of them at top MMR, derank and then at a rank a little lower win all his trials or most of them, his win rate is 50% but the game is not balanced at all.

Survivor sided in that you can't smash 4K every game? I find it hard to believe that high ranked Killers aren't winning most of their games.
Well they don't, actually they barely do 6 hooks most of the times lol.
-
- different queue (4Q and 3Q queues apart)
- restrictions on items, add-ons and perks (some perks can't be equipped by 2 survivors)
They play as a team so they should equip perks for teamplay and not chase abuse.

We have reached the point where survivors are the biggest threat to other survivors. When playing solo, i sometimes get matched with people that disconnect on the first down, followed by a hook suicide of the second survivor and another hook suicide of the third survivor. Even when 2 gens were completed by the time the killer got his first down.
So i can understand when people want to play with friends, where something like that won´t happen. Which in turn makes the game harder for the killer, because even a little coordination makes the game so much harder for killers.
In the week Pinhead was released, people complained about the sbmm and killer queues. Obviously the killer queues were caused by the new killer. Now that some time has passed, queues are going back to normal. Means that survivors have to wait a couple of minutes, while killers get instant lobbies.
Usually game health can be easily watched by checking the queue times for both sides during prime time. The side with the longer queue is usually the stonger one (exception is, when a new chapter/killer launches). So far it also looks like the survivor queues will continue to increase. Because the gen rushing has become unbearable for killers.
Hell, i´ve even seen survivors escape with 11k bloodpoints. I´ve seen "tunnel or camp" complaints from survivors that died with 11k bloodpoints. But escaping with so little points seems to be no issue. Which is worrying.
Yup, 75% of my trials as a survivor i escape with around 15k.
Mostly we are at least 3 to escape. Gen rush is huge.
1st chase, 3 gens done.
2nd chase/3rd chase, all gens are done, 1 door @ 99%.

I´m sure the devs will do something about camping and tunneling but nothing about the current gen speed. So my best advice is to simply switch to survivor.
I'm playing survivor aswell, i have always played survivor more often but the global state of the game is concerning me.
Without killer the game is dead. And i don't see how ppl will continue to play killer with the current state of the game.
I play both sides at a fairly high MMR (survivor i'm at the top, killer a little lower but not that much).
And i have noticed that gen rush is present in almost all trials, even good nurse are ending up with 2 kills only and are forced to camp and tunnel... it is so sad.
Also, the last few days, my soloQ queue times as a survivor have increased a lot. It was instant and now it takes a few minutes to get a game.
It means that killers are stopping to play, plain and simple.
-

Why play killer if you can play survivor and win easy? What other game lets you win easily just by holding m1 twice for 80 seconds? Usually when i see Undying Ruin, i laugh to myself, because the killer wasted 2 perk slots. Especially since Ruin can be completely ignored and it won´t slow down the gen progress.
Maybe the killer even wasted a third perk slot by equipping PoP. Which will never come into play as long as Ruin is active.

Yup and half the time, survivors will spawn directly in front of Ruin & Undying.
Playing killer became just impossible. Most of the trials are totally impossible to win without camping/tunneling.
-
@Sluzzy said:
In what other game does one side have such a massive advantage? I woke up this morning to try a build against the Ruin/Undying that killer mains says "counters it completely". This is proof there is no counter and it is false. I spent almost 5 minutes looking for these totems even with half of my build devoted to the secondary objective. In almost every match, it is either the last totem or next to the last totem that was Ruin. In this example, by the time Ruin is removed, survivors are sacrificed. They couldn't do the objective. Here we have a map where totems are hard to find and when the totems are gone, you see what you have. A killer that easily won because of perks. 5 gens still remaining and two is actually dead. If this isn't broken I don't know what is.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/S5KL3BK90VUB/badly-broken.png
Sluzzy, you play at low MMR, how can you talk about balance ?
An uncoordinated team of soloQ low MMR survivors will loose because of all survivors will do mistakes.
But a good coordinated team of high MMR survivors will finish the gen in 5 minutes and escape.
Survivors queue times at high MMR are longer that last week, killers are starting to leave the ship...
-
Let's talk about garbage SWF teams that are boosted to high MMR cause they always bring a key 😂.
BHVR releasing a MMR system while all broken things are still not removed from the game : keys, noed, ruin is still an hex, devour hope, insta heal, green boxes, full team of meta perks... ye well it's a joke.

Nope, a balanced game would mean that both side, with an equal skill have both 50% chances of winning.
High MMR = loosing 80% of trials
Midd+ MMR = winning 80% of trials
It bring a 50% win rate ratio but it doesn't mean the game is balanced. It means that when the survivors are good enough, the killer has no chance.

now we have seen how sbmm works ,every games are the same , resuming :
Game Starts : Nurse or Blight , eventually Spirit.
1 st down : Tunnel .
5 or 4 gens left , 1 guy out = 3vs1 GG game done.
where is the fun ?
mosts games killers hard tunnel 1 person. wich lead @ 3 escape most matchs.
Survivors complains for tunnels and Killers complain for genrushs.
i'm 50/50 playing every side . but my biggest problem is i cant play with my wife and my son anymore because we dont have the same sbmm like me , their games are very bad. the sbmm seems to match the higher skilled player , why cant we have a mix sometimes higher or sometimes less so they can escape a little more. i dont want to sweat every games , and i dont want to smurf too because i want to be better when i m solo .
The experience degraded a ton for me this week. At release, i was matched with players around my level that knew what they were doing, they were efficient at saving/doing gens/chasing and i was facing skilled killers.
Now, i'm matched with potatoes that don't even know that spreading on the map is a must and i'm facing the exact same skilled killers.
I'm at a point where i don't want to play soloQ anymore. SBMM worked at start but many players, old rank 1 potatoes have reached the mmr cap, it's obvious as the disparity of the skill level is huge between survivors.
That's the problem when you cap a ranking system : Top 0,1% will be at 2000 (let's say the cap number) but would be worth 4000 in an uncap system and top 30% players will also be at 2000, there real value in an uncap system.
We end up in a system close to the old one.
So what to think about this SBMM ?
- soloQ is worst than in the old system as the killers are stronger but the survivors aren't
- playing killer is okay unless you face SWFs, which are way more present in the new system at high MMR
I end up suicide on hook more often and feeling powerless in half the trials as a killer.

Boon totems would simply be too strong if they weren’t revealed to the Killer, so my hunch is that they will be revealed to the Killer after a certain amount of seconds possibly based on their perceived power level.
Ex. A boon totem that mitigates generator regression might be revealed after 90 seconds. But a boon totem that deactivates a random hex without having to cleanse the specific totem for as long as it the boon stands might be revealed after 30 seconds.
Killers already have a hard time at high MMR, imagine adding boon totems with stronger powers than the usual perks...
Killers already have no time to defend generators but now they will have to find & take care of a totem (4 totems ?) 😂.
It's hilarious to see where this game is going.

You could targe the weak link and get the 3 to 4K.
In the old system i won almost 100% of the trials.
In the new system, i get my ass kicked. So i'm top MMR, i loose two trials, i rank down, i get a 3K or 4K quite easily, i rank up again and i'm in an infinite uninteresting loop.
1 game i can win without too many difficulties and then i have 2 to 3 trials where i can't do anything no matter how good i play. Even when i end all chases in 40 seconds (getting a down), i still loose...

I think the problem is MMR basically highlights two things:
1.) This game is Survivor favored.
2.) As a result, the only way to reliably climb in MMR, at the highest levels is to play, is to play killers that limit the amount of counterplay survivors have.
At high MMR, this game basically becomes "Dead By Spirit"... since she's the only Killer you can actually get to that extreme MMR on Killer side.
Prediction: In a few weeks, the most complained about thing will be high MMR survivor queue times.
Spirit is the only one able to compete with Nurse BUT you forgot to mention the fact that if you are a top MMR player with the Nurse (maximum MMR, let's say top 1%), all other killers in your roster will have a MMR of top 5%. So you will still face top survivors and won't be able to do anything.
This is the high MMR trials, where even a considered tier S killer into the hands of a high skilled killer do 0 kill.
First screenshot he did 5 hooks, 2 kills and camped to get those kills.
Second screenshot he did 2 hooks only..........

A little rank called "black" that nobody really knows about....er well...about only roughly 4% of the entire player base has even seen or played in. Its when your mmr hits cap, and pretty much the only people you face are also capped. Basically the best of the best facing the best of the best.....and up here....its not even the same game. Everyone is using the best and most broken ######### in the game possible. These are also the ranks where the game is 100% survivor sided and you see the same people in matches constantly and queue times exceed to the moon. Red rank hell used to be a meme but its real this time. Its actual hell on earth in the purest form. I haven't seen a boosted survivor in so long I actually miss them making common human mistakes.
Black ranks consist of the following perks and killers every game. Ruin, Undying, Tinkerer, BBQ, Dead Hard, Decisive Strike, Adrenaline, Borrowed Time, Nurse, Spirit, and Blight. <---- This is Dead by Daylight in those ranks. It is the only thing you will see, it is the only thing you can effectively play without getting steamrolled, and these are the only killers and survivor perks that matter. Everything else is either not balanced to be strong enough to contend with the things I just listed or not valuable enough to carry and basically not worth your time. Periodt. Notice how I did not as a Pig Main include pig in anything listed above.....that is how crazy it is.
Wow that comment blew my mind, you nailed it perfectly. It's exactly how is DbD when you are good enough.
I just disagree with the 4%, i think it's more around the top 15% of the playerbase.
