  • They definitely need to tweak those killers yes, but there are now problematic pallet spawns on a few maps.

  • Partly it's distance from the servers, and partly it's matchmaking when there's not enough players around your MMR available. Not including VPN shenanigans.

Far too many survivors are being extremely hostile, toxic, and rude to killers just trying to play the game. I'm tired of every single game being another cycle of a SWF being on comms or a bunch of people on PC spinning at mach ten and i just can't keep up. And after getting dogged for 10 minuets; After having to kick over 15+ pallets, having to kick gens, trying my best to even sorta pushback, guess what i get? Survivors that would rather sit there at the gate for the ENTIRE ENDGAME BAR, tbagging, pointing, and otherwise humiliated me when these people spent 7 minuets holding 1 button and occaisionally clicking 2 or 3 at any given time. Killer should be the harder role to play, but not the harder role to tolerate playing. This is a game after all. Killer anxiety is a hardcore problem among longtime players. Although if we had a way to ACCURATELY report things that happen throughout the trial, maybe more than just once? and not just the 5 same options we've had since 2016; we could cut back on the immense toxicity ruining the game with, well, y'know, a NORMAL REPORTING SYSTEM. WHERE WE MAY TYPE WORDS. I'm genuinely considering quitting the game for good because not only has the entire fundamentals of the game gotten faster, the survivors are getting more pushed in power, the amount of killer perks that are viable are dwindling, and lest we forget we just gave survivors a way to double sprint burst? I give up. I give. I'm gonna become a blight main.

What exactly are you looking to possibly report? What you listed off doesn't sound reportable.

This is a tunnel? But he killed other survivors along the way? The definition of a tunnel on the NA server is weird.

The term "tunnel" for DBD has always been used very loosely. For me, a direct tunnel is a killer immediately returning to a surv being unlocked, downing them, and rehooking them, forsaking all else to do so.

    But definitions vary wildly.

  • It's mainly the differences in playstyle and mindset.

In NA there's many more teams on comms but also a more casual mindset, while in Asian there's many more playing solo and using more self-preservation builds & tactics. This is always reflected in perk usage stats, where for instance Self Care is run way more often outside NA and Europe.

So one area is both more chill and team-oriented, and the other is largely self-reliant and trying harder just to win win win.

All depends on time of day/week and MMR brackets of course.

I’m pretty sure ps5 is just on high, (low, medium, high, ultra) That said consoles should be able to change their settings. Done a bunch of comparisons but i genuinely feel that the ps5 settings look better than my pc on ultra.

    They cannot

  • @random1543 said:

there are wall hacks in the base game its not just a reshade thing, if you play on low settings you can just see red stain through walls its been a bug for a few updates and still happens (very noticeable for me as i play on low settings due to low end pc)

Those on the consoles cannot change the graphics settings, and are locked at "good" I believe.

  • Absolutely not, wayyyyyyy too open to abuse.

All survs would have to do is ban the strongest and/or "annoying" killers and queue times will soar for everyone. Imagine those in a SWF each banning four different killers? Again, queue times get wrecked.

  • @Deadman7600 said:

I think it'd be good but is that possible? (that's a genuine question) does xbox even have functionality for stuff like that?

As they currently roll out the PTB on Steam, nope.

Their updates all require certification separately from Sony and Microsoft and Nintendo. That can take 3-5 days or more, and those for Switch have been a week beyond even that for a while now. Plus those certifications aren't free either.

However, what may be possible is what Minecraft and DayZ do. They both have "experimental" versions on Xbox separate from their main games. Maybe that is an approach worth investigating, and I imagine something similar could be done for the PlayStations and Epic and Windows.

As it is now those on Steam that can participate in the PTB only do so for a day or two mostly, and there's no matchmaking either. More inclusion means more eyeballs on the changes and much more trials to review. Depends on if they view it worth the resources to pursue.

  • The game itself it too janky and unstable for any truly harsh penalties anyway. I do like the idea of the salt mines though.

  • They've already stated they do not plan to show surv perks in the lobby because it would likely cause mass lobby dodging.

I've always believed the true power of SWF isn't comms directly, but mitigating the randomness of solo queue survs. Those that have played together for a while learn each other's strengths and weaknesses and tendencies. They know if someone is doing a daily or challenge. They will come back for you if possible, and be far less likely to let anyone go to second stage. Comms alone won't accomplish all of this.

  • I do not think we have a large enough playerbase to support two full-time queues like that. Also they'd have to rebalance almost everything separately for both queues.

And exactly how could they prevent veteran sweats going into the casual area intent on stomping and pillaging?

  • Post trial I have no problem with this. I can see them linking the players on a team with light blue chains to see who ran with who.

A side effect would be killers seeing they only lost to a good duo and two good solo survs, and not to a dreaded swat 4-man.

As someone who has been playing the steam version of Dead by Daylight on a controller for quite a long time now, I've been wondering what killers that are in the roster are rather easy to play on a controller and what are some killers that you don't recommend playing on controller at all?

Any killer that doesn't require precise aiming or quick turning are playable with a controller to be successful against decent survs, if you put in the time. So those who rely on basic attacks mostly, and with supreme effort those types can be mastered.

I've always considered Trickster and Singularity both best avoided, and maybe Nurse. Opinions differ on killers like Blight and Wesker and Chucky as there's a few so-called Techs that would require a mouse with 8 million DPI being flung across the desk to perform. Recent changes to Oni's turning has made him more dangerous in power with a controller. Krause is very playable although harder to cheese hits with.

The Aim Dressing messing with hits up close while the surv is doing something strange in front of you is more pronounced. Dealing with Boil Over also is a much bigger problem with a controller.

    Hope this helps!

DBD has always been known for being behind the curb on connectivity and server issues but this one always seemed odd to me. Countless multiplayer titles have this feature E.G. CS2, Valorant, League Of Legends, Fortnite, Outlast trials if we're looking in a somewhat similar direction of multiplayer.

There is no possible way for this game to suffer for the introduction of a reconnection feature. The game has already implemented bots which allow the flow of gameplay to recover near seamlessly during disconnection downtime, and the player to pop back in without being hard punished, E.G. hooked while AFK. This feature would not only make the game MUCH more forgiving on unexpected outages .etc and would furthermore deter rage quitting matches, as players could be unable to start a new match until the previous is finished. This discourages toxic behaviour and patches unwanted accidents and cannot possibly be seen as a negative for the game.

    Any counter arguments to this:
Players can just turn their internet off to dodge games - Doesn't solve the fact they will have to wait out the trial, and I do not believe it impossible for the devs to detect this client side.

Players can alt+f4 to dodge games - same as before, not only can alt+f4s be blocked by the application but also the client request uploaded.

Players with bad connections shouldn't be playing - Nobody knows when they are going to disconnect or if their internet is going to fail, and with the foresight they will disconnect will not enter a match.

This could not be integrated for killer/would complicate killer disconnections -

A: Devs could implement (I understand this is a lot of work) bots for killer (even if as basic as using m1 and walking, kicking gens .etc common mechanics) which would allow the same "seamless" connection as proposed survivor disconnects.
B: The game could add a 30 sec to 1 minute timer to the reconnection so that the game is not left on standstill in their absence
C: Just not add killer reconnection. Being able to reconnect as survivor would already be a significant improvement to the game, adding it for killer would just be perfect. I would rather one positive change be made than none at all.

Sent with hope for the game.

I seem to recall them mentioning long ago that such a feature would require a full recoding of the game from scratch, that it couldn't be added in its too late now. Same reason a match replay system also couldn't be added, that too would require a recoding.

Sadly they've stated several times they have no plans to do such a thing, or a potential DBD 2 either. πŸ˜•

  • I could make a post simply called "This"

It might get a response saying something like "No, that" but it certainly would get a down vote or two just because . 🀣

If reshaders is cheating then so is being on external comms.

And neither could possibly be regulated. Although it widens further what we shouldn't be widening.

  • The main root of the issue for tunneling is there simply is nothing more efficient than the killer getting the trial down to a 3v1 as soon as possible. So long as that's true it'll still happen, no matter the hindrances doing so. Even something like a map-wide gen regression per unique hook wouldn't alter that fact.

Are you saying DBD would be less fun if it wasn't chaotic, unbalanced, and an unhinged mess of a game?

I'm saying the game was for fun before we started efficiencying the crap out of DBD.

  • The Pig doing this will only get that one kill at best, and is actively throwing the game doing so. As others have said, stay on the boxes to force her to grab or down you. Your team wins when she tries this.

  • At its core DBD is a chaotic unbalanced unhinged mess of a game, and the more we move away from that the less fun it becomes overall. Doubtful the game has the playerbase size to support two main queues anyway.

A simple solution is to allow players to just go next.

That's an amazing incantive to fix your game's problems rather than make a huge chunk of your playerbase leave the game.

They specifically are going through the various reasons why players go next, and attempting to make changes with that in mind. Admittedly some of those changes haven't worked out at all lately.

Hi i feel like joining this discussion and let me ask one simple question, How hard would it be to take the ps4 version, and port it to the switch 2? the ps4 version should run pretty well on the switch 2 i mean the switch 2 can handle Cyberpunk and SF6! it should be able to handle the ps4 version of dbd!

I can imagine the differences in the dlc and store content would prevent this idea. Not all dlc's are paid/free the same across platforms, and purchases are locked down heavily by Nintendo. It's why DBD Cross Progression just for the Switch lacked several parts moving between platforms.

  • @QueenGob said:

There really needs to be a way for the game to differentiate between CLICKING DISCONNECT and being in the middle of a chase when the game kicks you. I've had to deal with matchmaking locks 6 times in the last 2 days simply because the game decides it doesn't want me there. It's irritating enough losing my entire kit and missing out on any BP and quest progress, but then having to wait sometimes up to half an hour to play another game and make up the missing progress is absolutely infuriating. And no, it's not just my internet connection. I have consistent 300 Mbps dl, 100 Mbps ul, and the game itself shows me 30-50ms ping when it disconnects me. I have no problems with literally any other game so it definitively has to be DBD. If you can't fix your servers at least fix players getting punished for things that are fully out of our control.

I believe they said the issue becomes how open to abuse it could be. They cannot differentiate between the server failing, someone lagging out, or a player pulling a cord. So it treats it all the same and applies the penalty accordingly.

I find that incredibly hard to believe, unfortunately that does sound like something they'd say.

Regardless, if console players could decrease texture quality, disable shadows, lower render distance, etc. the game's performance would improve.

    Only if they were allowed.

From what I can gather, it's a result of their iffy optimization and an apparently insurmountable resource bottlenecking problem within their coding.

No matter what platform you play DBD on, players notice the game is an unusually voracious gobbler of resources. Far more than it should be for what this game does and shows graphically.

  • @Jay_Whyask said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/458796/what-cant-ptb-s-instead-become-a-seperate-gamemode

@tes mentioned this above, but I'm pretty sure BHVR has said it would require the game to be twice as large because they are different engine versions. I have to make a new download for the PTB if I want to play it on Steam.

There's also the issue that they need to certify their updates with the consoles in a way that they don't with Steam, which means the update would need to go in awhile before the PTB, meaning the version players are testing might have substantial differences.

All this is true, plus those certifications aren't free either.

What could possibly work is a game version that's always up, separate from the live game. For instance, both DayZ and Minecraft have separate "Experimental" modes available on Xbox, and I imagine there's something similar on the PlayStations. So it's doable, but would require work.

One thing is clear, the current PTB system isn't robust enough to get enough eyeballs on the proposed changes. Only a fraction of those on Steam who can participate actually do, and after the second or third day are already gone from it as well.

  • @CompetitifDBD said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/458736/reworks-need-their-own-ptb-from-now-on

they should opt to make a test queue rather than do PTBs in modern DBD. There is a ridiculously small sample size of playtesters when PTbs release, console players should try out the new changes too in the form of an optional event queue

I agree the PTB needs to be expanded. Currently only those on Steam can even participate, and those on other PC platforms like Windows or Epic cannot. Neither could Stadia when that was a thing. And of course none on the PlayStations or any Xbox or Switch can participate either.

    Hello! Unknown main here :)

When you shoot your UVX through a survivor, before hitting the ground and exploding, it applies the hindered status effect to survivors but it's minimal and the duration is very short. Only when the UVX explodes after a second bounce or hitting the ground does it apply weakened to the survivors. There is a difference in audio cues between shooting through a survivor, applying hindered, and weakening them. Weakened does force survivors to seek you out or dispel hallucinations to remove weakened which can be very advantageous with the right add-ons/perks.

I've never noticed that audio cue difference before. I wonder if it's more pronounced using some headset? πŸ€”

  • One of the decisions they'll never live down was that free Epic promotion years back. So many thousands of burner and/or for-sale accounts not accounted for, pun intended.

This dude really needs to show up along with a Tommy Jarvis survivor. My suggestion would be that he starts with his bog standard machete but gets a random weapon from a locker each time he opens it; sometimes he's a dash killer (good ol kitchen knife), sometimes he's a ranged one (spear) - dude has more kill variety on film than almost anyone and I think his power should reflect that. God help anyone who he gets hold of with his bare hands (head squeeze mori anyone?)

Plus how about a 2 killer comp mode against bots? Could work...as long as blight and wesker take a day off 😁

As others have said, there is a mess when it comes to that franchise. One owner has the name/lake/counselors etc and another has the character Jason apparently.

But I like you idea of him picking up different weapons (maybe from breaking chests instead of lockers) and having his power tied to them. If they are pulled from lockers maybe it would change his skin as well. The movies show him in a variety of outfits and it would be cool to show some of them. I'd even like his purple jumper from the old NES game.

Great it still runs bad BUT if that is all you have then you play with what you have. My issue is DBD devs know the hardware cant handle the V-Ram needed to run the game.

When I played DBD on my old Xbox1x it also struggled to run the game well too. Mostly it's due to how the game was originally coded and their iffy optimization. My Xbox Series X runs it better of course, but it can depend on what's happing in the game, which map etc.

Back in May 2019 they set a goal to get all platforms running at 60 fps minimum. After a couple of years they fessed up that they just couldn't do it. Not because of the capabilities of the platforms it was out on, but because of an apparently insurmountable resource bottlenecking issue internally.

It's why even the strongest machines out there can have issues running the game at times, and they also can notice the resource hog DBD can be.
