I personally don't want a Ranked mode, but I wanna listen to what people have to say and open my perspective a little bit. What kind of extra features or gameplay restrictions would you want to see for an officially supported competitive Ranked mode?
I'd prefer people avoid simply agreeing with me that they don't want Ranked; as I said I'm trying to expand my perspectives here. If you want to disagree with specific reasonings that's fine, but don't show up *just* to say you don't want ranked.
I'd say for restrictions/limitations they'd go for many of the crazy tourney rules, sich as only two of the same perks for survs, banning certain maps, banning certain add-ons & perks, things like that.
Imo such a ranked mode would devolve into comp lite.

Comp evens are not equal to public matches and definitely shouldn’t be treated the same??
also, if you implement such restrictions, there will be people finding ways to circumvent them, eg lobby hopping to get with their friends in the same lobby without using the in-game swf option.
and you would be punishing people casually playing with their friends…
instead, maybe they should continue to focus on bringing soloq closer to swf level like what they did with the in-game action hud
That swapping of lobbies to get paired up with friends was exactly what the players did back in the weeks before SWF was added into the game. Imagine what that level of dodging would do to queue times and MMR these days! 😂🤣

There is only one reason why you cannot play Solo-q and that is SWFs. DbD isn't a survivor-sided game, it's a SWF sided game, and no we can't put SWF and solo-q at to the same place. Why do you think everything about survivors are getting nerfed, because they are OP? Of course not, it's because people with groups abusing the combos, combination in the game. I am a solo-q player, I play as solo in everygame, I've even hit to Rank 1 many times before SBMM added to the game, RBMM was great but you were getting long queues. If you wanted to play at high rank same thing was happening every single time wait ages for to queue then face against two certain killers called The Nurse and The Blight sometimes The Spirit. But in my opinion I prefer that version instead of this one, because solo-q is literally unplayable and terrifying. In this game, they need to bring a special privilege to the survivors who play alone instead with a team, but it's not possible. But I hope they do something about solo-q.
Many many months back they tested out much stricter MRR queues. It resulted in significantly longer wait times for all. But then the sweats got matched up with just the sweats, and predictably got real sick of each other in no time. So we went back to pretty much what we have now.
I also hold the belief that the old Emblem system was more flawed than the current system. However I do think right now the two biggest issues with matchmaking is not enough players at needed MMR levels combined with lobby shopping. This does vary by time of day and region, but overall feels correct.

It makes no sense to me that one store gets access to test builds and one doesn't despite the game having the same cost in both stores, without knowing the game well you couldn't know that on Epic Games you pay the same price for less content and you get no compensation for that missing content at all.
None of the consoles can participate in the PTB either, and they're the vast majority of the playerbase.

So if it's an all solo lobby, no-one gets Kindred; if there's a solo/s with a SWF in the lobby, the solo/s get Kindred? To be fair, I've heard worse. From what I've seen, most people wouldn't be against a no-Killer-aura version of Kindred just being basekit at this point anyway.
Yeah a version of Kindred without the killer aura reading part would be a decent addition to survs basekit. Kindred itself could extend the aura range maybe, or some other effect.

For context. I'm a killer main. Multiple things can be true at the same time.
1. Windows of Opportunity is not overpowered and should be left alone.
2. Ultimate weapon is not overpowered and lethal/bbq are far better tracking perks unlike UW which has a massive cool down of 1 minute between uses (30 second cool down timer doesn't tick down until after the duration is over)
3. Blindness as a status effect is useless in high level competitive play
4. Blindness is problematic because it significantly hurts solo queue players while not doing anything to SWF and should be reworked to a mechanic that can hurt them both as equally as possible.
This is a fair assessment.
Since Ultimate Weapon is absolutely checked by a perk it's mostly fine. Maybe mess around with that cooldown as needed.
It boils down to this:
Don't like Ultimate Weapon then run Calm Spirit. Don't like being slugged run Unbreakable/No Mither. Don't like NOED run totem builds or Soul Guard. Don't like Leathal Persurer then run Distortion. Don't like Boil Over run Agitation/Iron Grasp.
The list goes on.

Had match when I pick of someone facing directly a wall, someone dropped well timed flashbang (out of sight, can't be directly below me since I am facing wall) and I get insta blinded and Survivor escapes. Does this mean no metter what you do, you can't protect yourself from flashbang if someone is close to you? That sounds kinda stupid.
Seems like flashbangs ignore your line of sight, just a small area effect or something. That's OP in right hands.
Think of them as grenades going off, they have an AoE of like a few meters in a sphere shape. It has to be perfectly timed so some practice is needed. That's prolly why flashlights are run more often, easier to use even though they are more directional.

That is with the assumption that the discrepancy in fair matchmaking is solely due to lobby dodging.
I agree we're guessing about that. No doubt it plays a part though. We'll see when they put out their test info at some point.

@mca240 said:
Per title. It is no secret that the most overpowered thing in this game is a premade on comms with every meta perk and stacked item possible. It is all you face after playing the game for a while and the main reason people lobby dodge.
They've made it very clear they wish all players in either role to run whatever load outs they want to. So I don't ever see them limiting perks, items, add-ons etc. or any crazy tourney limitations at all. So that's out imo.
Straight up removing SWF is also not an option, as it would definitely wreak queue times and likely kill off this game. So nope here too.
They seem to be targeting MMR, and making changes to ensure their system has its best chance to make fair-ish trials. With the recent tests they're looking at the lobbies themselves and when effects of lobby shopping.
Perhaps removing pre-game prestiges needs to happen? Perhaps what is seen and clickable in the lobbies needs to change? The basic idea I believe is to ensure the relative skill levels of the survs (solos or not) get matched with a killer who can handle them. Going after the dodging makes sense to help with that.

One of the main reasons very few play Singularity is quite simple:

They usually remove that feature when a new map comes. I guess they consider this at least semi new since alot of new players have never played on it before and may want to familiarise themselves with it
This is likely what's going on. The prevention system is prolly relaxed for Hawkins. Dunno if they've messed around with offerings odds or not.

Yeah I wouldn't mind that so I can finally have hospital offerings on Myers
Last time I got four indoor maps in a row as a surv I ran a Coldwind offering next trial. It was a Shytt-yourself Myers who put up a Lery's offering, but mine won out. One kill two hooks. Sadface.
-
I would run Distortion when in a SWF. Since I'm poop in chase I do gens and heal others etc. but I'm almost the scout. I'd usually figure out their loadout and often their add-ons too.
Often the first thing I tell my mates is "Leathal Persurer defend yourselves!" Figuring out if a Wraith is all seeing, going for that timely save or the gate against BBQ, things like that.
Once I know a surv is running Distortion as killer I play around that. Knowing how I run it as a surv I can intercept them from odd angles based on where I'd be right then. Another reason why players should play both roles some. It's all about game sense.
-
@Emeal said:
This would require alot of work since the game connects you to a server to play the game vs bots atm
I also think this would be the barrier to implementing this suggestion. Those bots are on the dedicated servers and not anyone's console or PC, so they'd have to code directly into the game those bots as well I believe.
Strangely enough if we still had the killer hosting the trials like it was around 4+ years ago this may have been possibly in already.

No point even considering it. You saw how long they take on the stupidest stuff. Twins rework in 2024 is comedic. The amount of time to rework Dull Merchant just for her to still be boring is pathetic. The method they take to nerf meta perks by oliterating them into a unusable perk is tragic. The list goes on.
This thread is supposed to be a what-if, changes & features players fantasize about being included. So doable, questionable, far-fetched, horrible, and impossible are all fair game.
-
The others are correct, this is due to latency and not much due to the hitboxes. On the killers side they likely saw that hatchet hit much more cleanly. I know it can feel like Huntress fires homing beachball-sized hatchets that creep around corners, but that's the surv pov being a tad behind.
-
I believe MMR and region play a huge factor in the varying amounts of lobby dodged experienced.

As much as I would love to see DBD 2, I know it's not coming even in the recent future.
But let's imagine it is... What are your expectations? Or what do you want to see in a sequel?
Personally:
- First and foremost - Account progress. (Skins, levels, currency, etc...)
- Obviously - all characters from DBD, imported into DBD 2. (Licenses too)
- Updated engine. (Graphics, physics, etc...)
- Gameplay changes. (Side objects for survivors and killers, maybe even completely different main objectives)
- New stuff on the map, that survivors can use against killers. (On Nostromo map we've had some traps on the ship, that can be used to slow down killers)
- Secrets and easter eggs within maps.
- A continuation of the game's lore. (Stories about survivors and killers, or even Entity realm)
I love this game, so I want it to feel the same, even with all those "personal wants".
But not how Blizzard did with Overwatch 2... (If you know what I mean)
Talking about it can potentially help the Developers to get the idea of what it's community want from such a BIG announcement.
First and foremost, a match replay & recording system. Get this burden off of the players and revamp the reporting accordingly.
-
One of the first things I did was mess around with the button binds for my controller. Unfortunately there's a couple of things that cannot be separated, as they're tied to a particular action category together.
I really feel the average DBD consolers don't even know they can swap around bindings, something our PC cousins already do for each game by habit, and would justifiably raise all kinds of hell for it they couldn't.

Some of the ideas in this post have merit. A ping system or chat wheel seem to make the most sense.
They've stated in the past their reasoning behind not implementing voice chat is the language barriers around the world and the availability of third-party comms. I suspect they want no part of having to moderate such a thing, but that's my opinion.
As far as a text chat goes, typing out anything with a controller is just pure pain.
-
My only problem with proposed changes is with the PTB system itself.
The scale of what they want to do with Trickster is massive and needs thorough testing. One of the big changes is removal of the awful recoil, the main reason he was poop with a controller and not run on console because of it.
But none of the consoles can participate in any PTB, and neither can Windows players. Just Steam. So the vast majority of the playerbase, largely using controllers, won't be able to try this version of Trickster for what, 6-7 weeks from now or more? Crazy.
Both Minecraft and DayZ have separate experimental game versions on Xbox, and I'm sure other titles do as well. I know there's a cost associated with them, and Entity knows what coding issues would crop up, but just Steam alone is not enough of us to test anything significant on.

While I agree visible prestige shouldn't be a thing (pre game)
Personally i'd remove the entire pre game lobby & fix lobby dodging in one fell swoop.
Survivors also drop out for silly reasons not just killers with the lobby removed maybe then mmr would have a chance to sink or swim or at least give the devs a better idea on how its working & improve performance.
Even with no prestige lobbies are dodged gor cosmetics, items, charcters, player names, list goes on & on.
Sure they'll be an initial rise in dc's or players giving up but they wanna eat the ban thats on them let the rest of us have at least a chance of a more reasonable game
That would also eliminate that last second swapping bs survs can do as well. I do wish they'd test this, whether they do anything with prestiges or not.
-
I also agree people should play both roles in DBD. Aside from making them better at both sides, it should foster more empathy & understanding of what effects the opposite role each trial.
That was what I meant with the "this"

Apparently it's also got something to do with Microsoft/Sony making it very difficult to implement on console. I'm pretty sure they could do it though if they really cared about console players (which they don't). Next best thing would be cross progression so you could at least play on PC if you've spent a lot of time/money on your console account.
I've never heard about Microsoft or Sony being involved in possible M&K support for this game. The only reasons I've ever heard are it would take too long to do, be too difficult to do, and require a UI update too.

I know I bought Blight with shards recently for undying and I wanted to see how he is on console and he is a nightmare. I main pig and even her ambush can be tricky getting around corners. People have to choose killers that are actually usable on console. I love pig but it would be nice to try play other killers that aren't M1 so I can perform well and not get tbagged and flashlighted.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3574484#Comment_3574484
Other games have done it if they keep designing killers like Blight, Huntress, Trickster and more then it is just unfair if they are only catering to one platform. You are right they clearly don't care the game has been out for over 7 years and they still do this. I can understand cross progression because Sony hates doing that kind of thing I don't know how games like Fortnite get away with it, though I do think BHVR need to push harder.
All of this could lead to them losing even more players and judging how they were before the event based on the steam players they need console players just as much.
Also sorry if this seems is a bit of a rant. It just frustrates me and many others.
Your frustration is valid and understandable, and shared my many.

If support for M&K is not coming, and they've said they have no plans to add it, at minimum we need more settings for the blessed controller.
The dead zones in the sticks are brutal, the rough to non-existent acceleration in those sticks limits so much, the input delay is worse than is should be, etc. etc.
We need something. Pretty please. With a blighted cherry on top. 🍒

Okay, Mister Passive Aggression.
1) The premise for your system is that Survivors all have differing play-styles and facing a Killer that counters (the word is "counters," not "exploits" - that's intentionally emotive) their chosen play-style is unfair and unfun, ruinous even. The game is "ruined" because the Survivor has to work for their win or even, shock horror, adapt their play-style or improve upon their weaknesses as a player to deal with a particular Killer. That's not an excellent premise, that's a weird display of entitlement. That's it, that's your entire premise, that you want to go into a match with a set tactic and never have to deviate from it.
2) It will reduce matchmaking to a crawl. Matchmaking, as it stands, is quick and highly inaccurate. Your idea will make it slow and even more inaccurate. Every Survivor has one Killer that has to be excluded from matchmaking and one greylisted Killer that has to be taken into consideration. That's 4 Killers that will be rejected outright and potentially another 4 Killers that the matchmaking is actively looking to avoid. If you've blacklisted Trickster, even if everyone else is fine with him, they have to sit there until a game can be found without Trickster to appease you. This has to be juggled with finding a Killer in the average MMR range of the lobby.
3a) Even if matchmaking wasn't reduced to a crawl, SWFs would gain a massive advantage. Each person blacklists a different top tier Killer, then they each greylist the same Killer. That's four blocked Killers and one that may as well be blocked. They'd just block Killers that they knew stood a better chance of winning against them than others.
3b) Certain tomes have multiple challenges for a specific Killer. People frequently complain about seeing X Killer too often during these tomes, even if the Killer isn't unbalanced. This, no doubt, would lead to the seasonal banning of Killers simply to avoid seeing them every other game. This is massively unfair for obvious reasons.
3c) People frequently complain about facing new Killers too often for the first week or so of release. This would, no doubt, lead to people having an incredibly hard time playing games with a Killer they just paid good money for. This is massively unfair for obvious reasons.
4) If Killers are "universally" blacklisted, all it would prove is that people didn't like facing them. It wouldn't prove them to be broken or in need of a rework. Lots of people dislike Wesker, but he's balanced; would a high block rate for Wesker mean he needed a rework? No.
Consider yourself humoured.
You put the "u" in humoured. Well done!
@jondalfthejrey said:
Hello!
Reading some comments on other posts I've seen some sympathy for this idea.
Survivor players have a variety of different playstyles, different strengths and weaknesses during play.
Because of that, certain killers which exploit those weaknesses are absolutely miserable to play against. Just right out of the gate the game is ruined.
I think it's reasonable for a player to have a limited blacklisting ability:
1 killer banned from their matchmaking outright
1 killer they'd prefer not to play against but will understandably have to sometimes, just hopefully less frequently than others.
My guess is that people have varied enough preferences that it would be spread out enough to not make it impossible for certain killers to find games. Maybe some survivors wouldn't even opt to use it at all.
However, if it turns out that certain killers are universally blacklisted, then that's a great indicator for the devs that the killer needs a rework. The design of the game should not ruin the enjoyment of all opposing players.
Just to see if there are any patterns here, I'm gonna share my picks and encourage others to share theirs:
Blacklist: Wraith
Prefer not to play against: probably Trickster, or maybe Legion
@Raconteurminator is quite right about SWF groups making your idea inoperable. Something like half of all survs are in at least a two-man. All those blocks would add up to Nurse and Spirit and Blight players waiting eons for a match. And that wait would erode the matchmaking as well.

Whenever this has been brought up before, their reasoning against adding it has always been the various languages throughout the regions & the availability of third-party comms.
I suspect they also just don't want the moderation nightmare policing comms would be. Just my opinion though.

The idea to buff Plunderer's would be simple. It also functions as a White Ward allowing survivors to keep what items they loot.
Killers should then be given a new non teachable perk called Entity's Gamble, it loads you into the trial with two completely random addons that you keepo after the trial is over.
These would both give fun ways to help build up inventories and make for some fun shenanigans.
Interesting idea. I don't think I've ever seen that one brought up here before!

Is SBMM implemented? Are you serious about that? So why am I matching Prestige 100 survivors on Huntress, which I barely play? Why would a survivor who has played the game for 9000 hours be matched with a survivor who has played the game for 15 hours? Why are the other survivors crouching at the edge of the map after a 3 minute chase? What I really want to say is the normal functioning of MMR. Is it correct to say that you all think that the current chaotic match between beginner players and experienced players is the correct answer?
Your MMR is similar across all of your killers, kinda like an average. This is because as an experienced killer you (hopefully) won't be matched with newbies as you understand the basics of gameplay.
The matchmaking issues are as others have stated, due to backfilling from lobby shopping.
