how about instead of trying to balance something that is only broken by 3rd party software we buff Solos to be on the same level as SWF then buff killers accordingly?
This. The devs won't split the playerbase nor make changes that'll hurt anyone's queue times. If there is a pre-game indicator and/or option to block SWF in any way, they will be dodged into oblivion and never ever get a lobby. No bloodpoint bonus or what have you will make the vast majority of killers willingly pick that option. Get solos the info and communication they need and then power up killers accordingly.
I'm not sure how running things like this through PTB's will really help either, as the consoles cannot participate and never will be able to. That's why the devs have begun to change the feedback and survey systems to include more from consolers, as i think all consoles together outnumber PC players now.
Also some believe (incorrectly imo) that feedback from the PTB's gets ignored anyway.

Console players who play on PS5 and Xbox Series X / S for sure can match the skill of PC players. But for those on last gen consoles and Switch? lol No. They are handicapped by the terrible optimization that is DBD's codebase. Especially killers.
It's not just last gen console players suffering from poor optimization, so to are players on low end PCs.
Pretty much this. To all who think the difference is minimal, pretty please with pustules on top:
Borrow a friend's Xbox1 or whatever. Pick killer. Load up Lery's. Try to do anything in its middle room. Let us all know what you think...
-
For over two years us consolers have been asking, indeed begging for a proper full optimization and that goal of 60fps or all platforms.
And keep in mind such things would benefit all players.
-
They won't separate console-only Crossplay, they won't add M&K to console, we can't just go to PC because there's no Cross Progression, and apparently they cannot optimize the consoles either, especially the older ones.

Amanda Panda is just sooo fun! Actually getting a grab is glorious, and the booping of snoot has lead to many outrageous times!!
Those way better than me that have mastered her make her quite the lethal murdering machine. Too bad luck and maps can simply wreak her at times, and smart survs who coordinate and 99% the gens are a nightmare to face. And she desperately needs an add-on overhaul more than anything else imo.
But I love her still!

Ouch....

Back in 2019 they put out some general stats about SWF, stating about half of all survs were in at least a two-man group, and that the average escape/death rates weren't much different, even at red ranks.
I believe those totals were with all platforms combined, which makes sense given the UEA's with the consoles would prohibit separate reportings.
But I also have to think the numbers in a SWF must have further increased due to the lovely Solo queue experience and Covid, etc.
We could def use more up to date stats!

Yeah that's a fair enough point, I hadn't thought of that.
I don't do much online gaming, I guess I'm used to team-based scenarios only happening in private lobbies (CoD, GTA, etc) where there are either bots or less uniquely specific numerical requirements. The asymmetrical nature of this game is new to me.
No worries. The nature of this game creates some unique and interesting problems.

I just don't understand why I get thrown in with SWF groups myself. I'm a solo player, it's going to be rare that I ever have my friends playing this game with me given our schedules and whatnot. The game should understand that if I just go to jump into a match I'm playing by myself and should be teamed with other solos. It's best for everybody.
So a three-man group would get a lobby, ummmm, never?

Developer fiat does not determine what cheating is. What is available in the unmodified game does.
If you show me a SWF group that doesn't use some kind of external communication tool, I'll show you a mythical creature. External voice chat is cheating, regardless of what the developers say, because there is no means of communicating with your allies in the game.
I play on console, so I suppose it could be argued stretched res, video filters, sound cards, altering the ini/game files, heck even the mouse itself can be construed as "cheating" and/or "exploits" by comparison, as none of these are available to us for this game. Aside from stretch res I don't consider them as such, mearly in the "possibly unfair" category which I can remedy by turning off Crossplay.
But it is not up to mine, or yours, or anyone's own personal code of honor. It is up to the devs.
-
@SnowMiser said:
SWF shouldn't even be in the game, I open the friend list of every survivor I come across. If there are friends, report both for cheating and dodge the lobby.
Dodging them i get, but why report? They decide what's cheating not us.
The devs have repeatedly stated SWF is not cheating, and was always intended. Half of all survs are in at least a two-man group.
Sounds like lots of false reporting to me...

Somewhat similar to Trapper's recent change I'd have the first Jigsaw box take the longest, the next less time, and so on. Her add-ons need more loving than her kit I'd say. Maybe a stronger Combat Straps that's green or even rarer? As for the roar before ambush I don't know really, moving that further into the animation may likely be too strong.

I love the indoor maps and haddonfield but in many respects I love haddonfield because it feels / plays like an indoor map in some regards.
A lot of people do however share your sentiment and will dodge offerings that lead to indoor maps while making up excuses about how bad they are for <insert what I am playing>. Scratched mirror players will also dodge stuff like ormond and farm maps for similar reasons.
I hate the indoor maps mainly because of the horrific fps drops throughout them, especially Lery's. That map needs to quietly crawl into a bush somewhere and die. Also I can't find gens, totems, survs, anything on them, and my Piggy is way too short and slow despite the stealth.
A map-dependant killer build I get leaving certain maps absolutely. Back on topic a lil though, I think a killer who faces a SWF should get a bp bonus after the match, maybe something like 1k more for each who escaped and 2500 more for each kill, therby covering the cost of most add-ons used if they get them all. Numbers negotiable of course.

Yes survivors do it too. It's really sleezy but as long as really big content creators do it fans will follow. God forbid a killer had to play one on haddonfield (My favorite map btw) or a survivor on an indoor map. shrugs
I don't dc (although my Xbox will sometimes because optimization) but I loathe all of the indoor maps, in both roles.

True, Matchmaking is like a consent form but the survivors sign first and blind and the killer gets to sign later but if they wait too long the entity grabs your hand and makes up your mind for you
I've noticed lately that if only it is the killer who didn't ready up they dc while loading. Presumably it is because they were afk and didn't get a look at the lobby.

I am somewhat new to the game so I would ask how does a SWF team get on and play together? Is there a certain place to go to play as a team? If so do killer mains know this or is it a surprise to them after the game ends?
From the game's main menu pick survivor and in that lobby you can invite friends to the same lobby, up to 4 total, and as a group you (eventually) find a killer and the countdown begins.
I play on Xbox1 and when I'm playing survivor with friends we often are in a voice chat party, but not always. Nearly all those I game with are former strangers who I met in-game and messaged them after. I believe PlayStations have something similar, and for PC there's that Discord thingy I believe.
Killers currently aren't notified if they are facing a SWF (sometimes called a pre-made team) but veteran killers can figure it out or check profiles, etc. and dodge if they choose.

Ooof. Lerys ? No thanks. Especially for the killers I was talking about. Nurse and blight 🤣. That map sucks equally as bad on PC. Don't worry
Oh it isn't the difficulties those two killers have inside, in particular with Lery's. That's universal. What I'm wanting to share with the PCrs is the crazy frame drops console gets on the indoor maps. Depending on which killer and what's going on fps can droop to 10-15 in Lery's middle room for example.
-
A few if our PC cousins have wandered in to this fine thread. Welcome!
I always implore y'all to see things from our perspective, especially the killer side. Borrow a friend's PS4 or whatever, and fire up DBD. Pick your paingiver, and give it a couple of rounds. If you're truely brave enough head on inside, maybe even into Lery's.
And tell us all about it.

I'm not saying I do I'm saying it happens to me a lot as pig and yes while ineffective it is boring for the survivor getting tunneled by the pig because they literally cant do anything to stop it, but just except their dead
Naw I wasn't accusing you I was just trying to tell why it is an inefficient way to play her, as well as mean af.

@Itslat3ncy said:
Dev's can you please fix this issue it's so dumb. I've had it happen a lot to me. Pig gets her trap on me. I get off hook to find a box and the pig comes to my box. Proceeds to chase me, but then. crouches and follows me so my time will start to tick. There is absolutely nothing you can do about this besides hold w and wait for death. It is the most boring thing I have ever played against and needs to be changed.
This is imo one of the least effective ways to play her, and evil as well. The survs with a trap on, especially active, should not be targeted. It's the survs who don't have one on that are doing gens.
If in chase I stumble across a surv on a Jigsaw box or running around they get slugged and I keep moving. Shadowing one surv to death should and prolly does cost her the match.
Will all her limitations and poopy add-ons she cannot afford to play that way.

This is a pretty serious issue that seems to keep getting whitewashed on the forums: VPN abuse.
I play on US servers, more specifically US East. I just got out of a match with a 3-man swf who was Playing over in the EU. I know this because he is a French streamer on twitch (the downside to advertising lol), I have his name saved in the event a moderator or admin requires is from me but I will not be revealing it here, out in the open (obviously).
To the point, this streamers ping was between 150-300 and his two companions had pings ranging from 200-500+ and 250-600+. YES, this did negatively affect my ability to play the game. I managed a 4k with trickster but that has more to do with them being mushy potatoes who were probably looking for a way to rig matches in their favor by abusing ping.
My question is this: do the devs intend to acquire servers that are capable of synching and hosting international play or are they going to take steps against players using third party software to cheat by way of flagrant ping abuse?
Prolly neither imo.

Well the new consoles (PS5 and the new Xbox's) also have hardware for acceleration of ray tracing, so ray tracing is also possible on those consoles. AMD is also working on a competitor to DLSS, which has been leaked to also work on the new consoles, so this isn't just something exclusive to pc gamers.
Sounds well beyond my Xbox1 however...

Consolers: what language even is all of this?

Low-FPS issues, high-stuttering. Many of us have been having these problems since update. Not acknowledged by the devs. Have to play in Low graphics with minimal resolution in order to make it barely playable, although reworked maps are of course a mess to play on.
I don't assume these issues will be solved in the next patch, the priority is graphics, graphics, and graphics. I am starting to get frustrated with this issue, I've been playing this game for quite a long time and now it's just unplayable. I currently am slugging through the last rift levels, since I PAID for the pass, but my game is just unplayable.
It's been an issue for several people who expressed here on the forum. But since we are a minority of players, I guess it doesn't matter. Our games ran perfectly prior to the update, now it doesn't work properly, nothing is done about it.
Can you acknowledge this issue ? I just want to be able to play this game normally again, without any of this mess. The more maps are being reworked, the less maps I'm going to be able to play on as well.
I have the feeling this post, like the others, wont be noticed by the devs or admins or whatever.
Been dealing with these same issues and worse on console, with precious few options at all to help our frames. I always asummed our PC cousins and their rigs could brute force this game into operating. Saddens me to see posts like this.

My ideal solution has always been to bridge the gap between SWF and Solo Queue. Give survivors a communication wheel, (possibly even some proximity voice and text chat, but this would be difficult to balance), and add some additional indicators for basic game information that normally isn't possible to communicate without external comms. Rebalance killers around the idea that survivors can actually do basic communication
Also please, rework blindness to not be utterly useless against basic communication.
Working under the assumption that they aren't going to do this though because they very likely won't? Yeah SWFs should be indicated. I don't think there's any clean way you can seperate them out, but you can at least indicate to other survivors and killers who all is in a SWF.
Darn near all killers would dodge a SWF lobby if it were indicated, as would I. Those teams would be waiting for all eternity.

Well, cheating usually happens on PC, not much on console.
And I assume there is also a system to record ban history internally for console, since still people are being banned there.
But as PantlessMyers says, probably it's out of BHVR's jurisdiction to restrict people with the history outside the game.
I just thought it would reduce the chance to match with cheaters if I can filter out players with the history.
My concern would be with Crossplay a thing us consolers couldn't know things Steam wise and be matched with such not knowing it

But do you think any killer looks at two queues labelled 'free wins' and 'risk getting bullied' and voluntarily pick the latter?
The only way to fix Swiffering is by buffing killers to bust bully-strats, then massively buffing solo survivors to match their new balance floor.
They are correct if SWF is split off they'd never get a lobby. Many who only play solo would cheer this, believing it's for the betterment of the game. The reality doesn't bear it out though.
Last stats (yes we need newer than like late 2019) had about half of all survs in at least a two-man SWF. Since solo play is just so peachy nowadays I have to believe that number has grown. So all this means its too late now.
Based on their decisions, I have to believe the only changes they'll seriously consider have to be framed this way:
1. Cannot split the playerbase
2. Doesn't hurt anyone's queue times
3. Punishes no one
4. All-platforms-wide
Hammered to fit all that, the only remaining method is to raise solos to nearer SWF status, then rebalance killers around that. How to accomplish that is the real debate imo, and if any one gives a foook I'll gladly give my thoughts on that debate.

With 7 seconds remaining, both the default meg and dwight suddenly switch to a P3 felix and laurie with purple flashlights. Ass move, right?
It's a part of the game that I don't think we should remove; however, we should at least give killers a second to react to a sudden change.
The new wait time for a game should go from 1:00 to 1:15. At 20 seconds, survivors can't switch who they play as or the item they're carrying (they can only upgrade/downgrade the same item or change add-ons; e.g. if I had a brown medkit I could swap it for a yellow and put a gel dressing on it but I can't switch to purple beamer). During this 20 seconds, the killer will no longer be able to lobby dodge, BUT can switch which killer they're playing.
I'm not sure if it's a good idea but it's definitely... something.
They locked the killer into a lobby due to the upcoming new MMR, which requires it to form individual killer ratings. So that ain't going anywhere.
I am very surprised players can switch survs still though, prolly should have locked them at the same time. I actively discourage teammates from last second swapping anything when I'm in a group, as I've been in the recieving end of it when playing killer, plus the fact that it annoys tf outta killers as well. Poking the bear never helps I feel.

My point was none of us on console can ever do this "jflick" or anything similar because you cannot use Keyboard & Mouse on console for DBD. The devs have stated it would be very difficult and take way too long to implement it, so it ain't coming.
