Overall it feels decent to me. I’ve been able to escape on average over 40% of the time, and that feels about the right level of difficulty for survivor. Any higher than that and then killer becomes a lot more frustrating to play.
With that said, matchmaking is still completely non-functional and that is by far my biggest frustration with solo queue. I’ll have amazing teammates with thousands of hours in one match, escape, and then be “rewarded” by getting matched with a literal brand new player with 20 hours in the next match. -

First of all, BHVR bans for things like that, if they are too much. You dont even need to write a Support Ticket, an ingame report is enough.
Seconds, the solution to disable Endgame Chat is not bad or anything. You have a way to not have to bother with those Comments, so use it. Yes, ideally you should not have to do that, but you have to do it and you can do it. Not doing it is kind of strange IMO.
And third you are probably exaggerating or not being very nice when playing, from my own experience I dont really encounter toxic Behavior too much, but it usually happens if someone gets upset about anything which another player has been done. Sure, sometimes those are very insignificant things, but sometimes being upset can be valid. So are you doing anything special that you get negative Endgame Chats that often?
And unrelated - could it be possible that we played against each other yesterday? Have you played as Anon Sadako on Forgotten Ruins yesterday evening/yesterday night? Against a team which let Survivors go to second Hook Stage? Just curious, since you are writing very similar to that person I faced yesterday. EU-Servers.”First of all, BHVR bans for things like that, if they are too much. You dont even need to write a Support Ticket, an ingame report is enough.”
Unfortunately that is not true. I’ve reported people for extremely vile things and not once have I received any response from BHVR that some was banned. Maybe it’s just me, but I have personally never seen it.
-
BHVR either needs to start banning people for chat abuse or just eliminate the chat feature altogether. I agree that keeping in the game is a huge contributor to the toxicity problem. Most people do not have the discipline to disable it themselves. I’ve never seen any action taken against people I have reported for chat abuse, even for vile things like suggesting I off myself, wishing terminal illness on my family or racial slurs. The amount of benefit for keeping the chat feature is far, far outweighed by the amount of toxicity it facilitates.
-
I haven’t paid for any content in a long time and won’t do so until it’s clear that BHVR has turned a corner in terms of quality control and listening to feedback from the community, especially the most experienced and influential content creators. As long of they keep seeing growth in revenue, there’s no reason for them to do anything differently than they have the past 9 years.

My escape rate is around 40%, but that doesn't change how the game feels for Survivor. It feels like you're always at the Killer's mercy, especially when you factor in that about 20% of that 40% are escapes given by the Killer and not earned; most losing trials are over before all gens are powered with many ending before even 3 are powered; the Surrender mechanic pops up way more than it should; etc. It's just not fun.
”It feels like you’re always at the Killer’s mercy…”
Isn’t that the whole point of the horror genre? I don’t feel like the killer is supposed to be the survivors’ punching bag, but maybe that’s just me.

If it is not playable from surv side, then what is it and how to deal with it?
You don’t even need those meta builds/items/add-ons for survivor to be playable. I usually bring a brown medkit and brown add-ons and do just fine. Average escape rate 43% almost exclusively on solo queue.
When people complain that survivor is “unplayable”, its usually because of one of the two following reasons:1) they escape below the 40% solo queue average. If that’s the case, they need to improve their gameplay rather than complain. If the average is 40% that means plenty of other players are able to achieve that escape rate or higher. This isn’t meant as a “git gud” comment, it’s simply recognizing that DbD, as with any game, has a skill curve. Some are going to be on the lower end of the skill curve and be below-average players. You can’t balance a game around the low end of the skill curve because then the middle and upper end become far too powerful. SBMM in theory should fix the problem, but as we all know, that system is essentially non-functional.
2) they do escape at or above the average of 40%, but feel that they deserve to escape more often than that. Everyone is going to have a different opinion on this - I personally am totally ok escaping only 40% of the time. It’s not supposed to be easy. BHVR has to balance around both the survivor and the killer experience. I remember before killers were buffed in the 6.1patch (I think?) that survivor queues were extremely long because so few people wanted to play killer. BHVR noticed this and correctly adjusted the balance. Queue times are much more reasonable on both sides now. People will say that killer queues are still long but I only see that if I play during the day time hours, and killer queue have always been longer during that time when fewer people are playing survivor with their friends.

@mecca said:
I hardly play anymore, especially survivor. They intentionally want survivor role unwinnable and unfun so killers can win all their games easily. Having no balance is the objective.
How do killers win “all their games easily” if the average kill rate is 60%? Is your kill rate way higher than 60%? I would really like to know but every time I ask you, you never respond.
-
No Mither is so terrible that having it give you infinite Finesse is pretty ok with me.
-
Sorry to hear that you’re struggling. There are some games that I’m terrible at no matter how long I play them or how hard I try to get better, so I know how you feel. If you’re not having fun and just can’t get better no matter how hard you try, there are really only 2 options: 1) move on to other games, or 2) if you really want to keep playing, just accept your skill level and keep at it. It took me a really long time to get decent at survivor. I’m at 2,500 hours in the game now and there are still plenty of games where I don’t play that well, but I’ve also had some games where I felt very proud of how well I played. It just takes a long time for some players to get to that point.

Hey guys i played a few matches today and the current state of the game. Ive come to the conclusion that this game is no longer playable from a survivors view point. After 2500 hours or so it hurts to let this game go, but it is insanely clear that the devs are no longer interested in keeping this game balanced and fun for both sides. I appreciate the time I had with this community but its time for me to sign off. I hope things turn around for you guys in the future.
What made you come to this conclusion, specifically? I’m curious what your escape rate is and whether it’s an issue of not escaping often enough or if it’s something else. I have about the same number of hours in the game as you, although spread across 7 years, so I don’t play a lot of hours per week. I play survivor about 50% of the time (pretty much always solo queue) and I don’t feel like it is unplayable at all. My average escape rate is 43%, which feels very balanced to me especially since I also play killer and know how frustrating that experience was when overall average escape rates were higher. Also curious if you play the killer side at all and if that has any impact on your perspective about the survivor experience.
-
The best way for you to voice your displeasure with the game is to speak with your wallet. By far the biggest reason that this same type of thing keeps happening over and over and over again is because BHVR is likely making more money than ever. As a for profit business, that’s really the only thing they should be worried about, and I honestly don’t blame them because obviously their strategy is working. They won’t be forced to do anything differently until revenue starts to drop significantly. We hear all this outrage and complaining on forums, YouTube, social media, etc, but the fact is that most people aren’t upset enough to stop spending money on the game and that is the reason why nothing ever changes.
-
I pay zero attention to announcements anymore. So many promises/announcement made in the past have been either completely forgotten about or endlessly delayed. I don’t expect this time to be any different.

You already got a “We’re Sorry™” and a new charm! What else do you want!!??

Hey folks. I totally hear your concerns here, but also want to give some background. Balancing is an iterative process that takes time to find a sweet spot, and this is very much another step in that process. To quote one of my favourite fantasy series', "journey before destination".
We 100% want to hear your feedback once you get a chance to play a few Trials with this new change, so please let us know how it's feeling. We're here to grab that feedback and make sure the team is made aware.
Chiming in here to agree with this. There’s always going to be a very tight window where most people on both sides feel like something is reasonably balanced. It will never be possible to make everyone happy because there are unreasonable people on both sides who are upset if they don’t win every single match. These are new items and finding the sweet spot for balance is going to take likely multiple more iterations.
With that being said, I do think there are some major issues with how BHVR balances things. Changes very often seem to swing way too far one way or the other, and that happened again with fog vials. Original fog vials should have been slightly nerfed to start and then adjusted further if needed. Instead, they were immediately nuked into uselessness and now have to be buffed again (maybe several times) to be worth actually using over other stronger items. -

A lot of very, uh, not specific requests here.
What killers specifically need to be “toned down” and why?
What do you mean make maps great “again”? What maps need improvement and what specific improvements need to be made on those maps.
Not sure what actionable steps the devs could take unless you provide some specifics.
-
Good! That’s what we wanted 🙂
-
Yeah, we’ve seen this show dozens of times already and nothing ever changes. I don’t blame BHVR for operating the way they do because it has obviously been very successful for them, but I wish they would stop pretending like “oh well this time we’re *really* going to start listening!” It’s been said so many times in the past that it doesn’t mean anything and nobody believes it.
I’ll keep playing the game because I enjoy playing it and there isn’t anything better in this genre, but I won’t spend any money on it (and haven’t done so in a long time) because I feel now more than ever that the company does not really value its customers/promoters. -

I agree with your disappointment with BHVR, but the recent drop in player count really doesn’t mean anything. Look at the all-time history of the player count data and you see a big drop off shortly after every major chapter release.
-
From their perspective, why would BHVR do anything differently? Despite the recent PR blunders and years of what I consider very poor relations with the community, the player count is near all-time highs which probably also means revenue being near all-time highs. They’re not going to change anything unless people start leaving the game in large numbers and that hasn’t happened yet.

If you focus all your efforts solely on churning out content continuously, signing agreements to bring in licences, releasing tons of outfits every week, implying that your only goal is to milk as much money as possible by prioritising the health of your product and neglecting the main aspects of the game, sooner or later you'll hit a wall.
The fact that this game has no decent competitor in its genre is paradoxically a problem, because it allows them to delay or even ignore a whole series of issues, since people will always come back to play DBD because there is no alternative.
100% agree about the lack of competition being a big contributor to these issues. Kind of like Nvidia being able to constantly give the PC gaming community a giant middle finger with every GPU launch.
-
Nothing is going change as long as people keep playing the game and spending $ on it. Despite the recent PR disasters, people are not leaving the game in large numbers and the player count is still near all-time highs. Not saying they are right or wrong, but apparently most people aren’t that upset about all this. 🤷♂️
-
I usually try to win just like I do when I play survivor.
-
Pre-nerf Franklins was super annoying and pretty strong, but from the killer perspective there isn’t much else available to counter a team all bringing strong items. As is usually the case, it was overnerfed and is basically useless now. It needs to have at least some effect on removing charges from items to make it worth using.
-
To be fair, I haven’t seen a blatant cheater for a very long time. I play in US eastern time zone, typically 8-11ish in the evenings. Maybe there just aren’t many cheaters in my region or they tend to play other times? 🤷♂️
-
There are plenty of really bad perks on both sides.
-
Is this a regional problem? What region do you play in? It’s been a very long time since I’ve seen a blatant cheater - I play in US eastern time zone. Maybe cheaters only come out really late at night after I’m sleeping?
-
Fully agree, but look at it from BHVR’s perspectives. People keep spending money on the half-baked, busted and bugged content releases and the player count remains near all-time highs. Why would they do anything differently?
-
Bubba is literally one of the easier killers in the game to loop. I love going against Bubba. He has no power whatsoever other than the instadown. Even if he’s tunneling and camping, as long as the rest of the team stays on gens, he’s going to get just that one tunnel kill.
Springtrap is fine. I’ve had no trouble escaping against him compared to any other killer.I will agree that new Clown is obnoxious and boring. I hope the devs make adjustments.
Why do you need to see the devs’ escape rate stats? They’ve published the overall escape rate stats for all players recently: 40%, and closer to 45% if you play in a 4-man SWF. My average escape rate is 43%. I’m totally fine with that. It is a horror game after all - escaping shouldn’t be guaranteed or easy.
If you’re new and struggling, the answer isn’t to demand killer nerfs. Watch videos of other good survivors, instructional videos from content creators, and just play more in general. You’ll get there. I’m by no means a skilled video game player and I don’t have time to play hours a day. If I can do it, anyone can.
-
I think you just answered your own question. Like you said, Pinhead is hell for solo queue, so I’m not surprised at all to hear that survivors DC against you every match.
You have every right to play the killer that you want to play, so I don’t blame you. I blame BHVR for a terrible killer design that is easy for SWF on comms to handle but damn near impossible for solo queue because either everyone is going for the box and not doing gens or nobody is going for the box and it’s permanent chain hunt. -
The map feels like a homework assignment that someone forgot they had to do until 10:00 the night before it’s due.
-
I am tend to be pretty sympathetic to the killer side as I play that role half the time, but I have to agree here. Kaneki is super unfun to play against. Take everything that is unfun/borung about Legion and add in crazy map mobility on top of that. I still have yet to play against a Kaneki where at least one survivor didn’t DC or give up immediately.
-
@TheGoone said:
They made afk Crows extremely long to get now
Yeah it seems that way. I played a match recently where survivors 3-genned themselves badly (I was not trying to force them into it) and didn’t touch gens for at least 5 minutes, By the time I finally found someone, they had accumulated only one crow. There’s no way people are getting crows after only 2 minutes.
The system went from the system being way too punishing to effectively useless. I really don’t understand how such a simple solution could be so complicated to implement. -
I’ve played a lot of killers, but Wraith has always been my favorite due to simple design, very good add-ons and not susceptible to bugs. Great for a casual player like myself. One thing I would change is his mori. It’s really basic and uninteresting - has it ever been changed since he was introduced to the game? Would love to see it reworked.

IMO one of the main reasons why Cheaters are not getting reported is because you need to do so much to actually report them. You need to have a way to record your game, you have to grab all information you can, you have to open a Support Ticket, you have to upload the recording on Youtube and then link to it in the Support Ticket. And on top of all of that you have to make sure that you report them ingame.
So lots of work and I can understand that people dont really bother with that. I am not bothering with it anymore after I reported a clear cheater. They had Wallhacks (perfectly mirroring the Killer despite not seeing any red stain), Speedhacks (while the Killer was a Deathslinger and therefore only 110% Speed, he should have still catched up after a while in chase) and then ran straight to the Hatch when it opened. The person I reported did not get banned for months, so since then, I dont bother. If they make it as inconvenient as possible to report Cheaters, I will not go out of my way of doing that. I report them ingame, this takes me a few seconds and thats it.
IMO they need to have a replay-system. It might even be enough to only save the last 5 replays or even the last game played so that people then can upload parts of it to Youtube and dont have to deal with their own software to record. Or simply upload the whole replay-file (which might only be a few KB big) to the Support Ticket.
100% agree. I don’t know of any other game that puts such a significant burden on the players for reporting cheaters. A vast majority of players are not recording their games, so that eliminates most opportunities to report cheaters. And then even if you happen to be recording, you have to spend a bunch of time afterwards getting the video onto YouTube, going through the reporting process, etc. It’s completely ridiculous. I don’t understand why it’s so technically impossible for BHVR to auto-detect things that players should not be able to physically do in matches like teleporting, moving way too fast, unlimited DS (a cheat I’ve encountered personally before), etc.

So first of, if I remember correctly, the matchmaking is specific for each killer right?
I'm trying to do my achievements and currently doing Nemesis, I have not played him at all, like maybe 3 matches in total as of typing this, yet I get matched against Survivors Prestige 1000 with 3000 hours ABSOLUTELY destroying me (mainly with flashlights) to the point where I actually just want to DC.
So, I'm not sure if I was just incredibly unlucky or if the matchmaking system if basically non existent.
I understand that playing Survivor is basically 1 character and there are not many new players, so you will never have an even playground as "new" killer but at least a little bit of balance could be considered when picking the players for a lobby.
The matchmaking is effectively non-functional. I’ll get 8,000 hour comp players one match and then someone with 20 hours the next, win or lose it doesn’t matter. BHVR can tell us that it’s supposed to work all they want, but I can tell you and show you from what I see every time I play that it doesn’t.

@kosaba11 said:
If they keep going the way they are they won't even get close to 100 characters each because the game will be dead. I don't want it to happen, but BHVR hasn't shown a willingness to listen to both sides of the aisle and, whether intended or not, has shown they only care about one side. This has caused the Survivor playerbase to dwindle as more and more players just quit the game due to how insufferable and downright unfun it is to play the role - that's not on the Killers, either, it's squarely on BHVR.
After all, Killers have the right to complain, too, that's not the issue. The issue is that BHVR only listens to those complaints, even when those complaints shouldn't be acted upon (cough Fog Vials cough). Now, not every Survivor complaint should be acted upon - both sides of the isle have stupid complaints.
However, to actually balance this, or any other PVP game, you need to listen to all, not just a few. What BHVR has done is show clear bias, even if not intended - just look at all the issues over the years that they've prioritized or just haven't touched, you'll notice a good chunk of the ones they haven't touched are issues that make playing Survivor unfun.
Until they correct themselves, they have no chance of reaching 100 characters each. At this pace, I give them 5 more years, and that's being generous.
What evidence do you have that the survivor base has dwindled and that more and more people are quitting the game? Just looking at Steam charts (the only data source we have), player count still remains near all-time highs on a daily basis. Sure, it’s dropped a bit since FNAF release, but that has always happened after chapter releases for the entire history of the game.
As for the game bleeding survivors, I certainly don’t see that on my end, so I don’t know what makes you believe that. Killer queues are short during the evenings and survivor queues are short during off-peak day hours, which is the same pattern I’ve always seen since I started playing 6 years ago. -

It's BHVR's fault. If they had more balanced patches that didn't actively screw over Survivors EVERY time, then there wouldn't be as much "us vs. them" arguments. They'd still exist, but wouldn't be as prevalent, because right now it's true, even if BHVR doesn't want it to be. This may be an unpopular fact of life, and I know the downvotes I'm going to get, but that doesn't change anything - BHVR's decision making has been disproportionally anti-Survivor, with the recent inclusion and then hard nerfing of Fog Vials just because a few Killers found them annoying. It's not fun to play Survivor right now, whether you win or lose, and the only people to blame is BHVR. Complacency and burying criticism won't change that.
No, it’s not somebody else’s fault. It is possible to voice your opinion without constantly blaming “killer mains” in every post or claiming (without evidence) that BHVR has some kind of nefarious agenda against survivor players that make up a vast majority of its player base.
Almost everyone else here has been capable of voicing their opinions and providing feedback without resorting to “us vs them”. -

Any killer who tunnels gets free wins because there's no actual counterplay now that they gutted fog vials since high mobility killers can cross most maps in less than five seconds to tunnel the unhooked survivor.
I’ve played a few matches lately where the killer tunneled because they weren’t very good and guess how many kills they got? Just the one person they tunneled, everyone else got out because we did gens while the killer was focused on the one person.
If you can show me some evidence that you can literally win (3-4K) every single match you play just by using a tunneling strategy, I will happily admit that I was wrong. I must be doing something wrong when I play killer because that sure has never worked for me.

The root of most "us vs. them" stuff I believe is from people not playing both roles at least to a competent level. This creates a lack of empathy for what the side opposite their preferred role has to deal with in matches.
And it can be compounded by echo chambering the same things over and over too.
100% agree. There would be almost zero divisive, toxic posts that are always littered with the words “killer mains” and “survivor mains” if people bothered to actually learn how to effectively play both sides and not just immediately give up and call for nerfs when they inevitably struggle at first (which by the way happens to all new players).

I wasn't talking about high tier Killers either - there are plenty of perks, add-ons and base kit Killer powers that make medkits pointless. High mobility Killers like Blight, Hillbilly, Legion or Kaneki make it nearly impossible to even heal in the first place. Killers like Legion can put Survivors in a state where they need to mend. Killers like Leatherface have one-hit downs that last long enough to down all four Survivors if they're in close proximity to each other. Pinhead is another Killer who makes healing difficult because of his chains.
Perks like Nurse's Calling make healing a calculated risk. No Quarter makes healing even more difficult with continuous skill checks that can put Survivors into the Broken state. Septic Touch makes Survivors blind and exhausted. Leverage reduces healing speed. Those are just the perks directly linked to healing - there are plenty of perks and perk combinations not related to healing that make the concept of healing pointless because of how easy it is for Killers to find you.
Medkits are not and never have been the problem you people are making them out to be. Heck, not even toolboxes are as powerful as you people think they are. Survivors have nothing even remotely good, they only have things that slightly lessen the burden of BHVR horrible decision making.
I will start by saying that one point I agree with you on is that Ghoul is still busted
You really think it’s “nearly impossible” to heal against Hillbilly or Blight? How have I managed to do it so many times?
As for Legion, their power is entirely designed to quickly injure multiple survivors and find them again to keep them from healing, but that’s literally all they have. It’s the only tool Legion have to slow down survivors and that’s only if they play incorrectly by healing. If you play correctly against Legion, which means not healing, they literally have have no other power and are very easy to beat. I just escaped against a Legion running Thana yesterday in solo queue on Midwich, a very small and killer-sided map. It’s not that difficult if you know what to do and what not to do.
You really seem to be grasping for problems that don’t exist. -

They're playing them because those Killers are broken and are free wins. I've seen plenty of other Killers who perform just fine but don't have high mobility.
”free wins?” We haven’t seen stats for Ghoul yet, but last stats release BHVR provided did have Blight included. Outside of high MMR, Blight wasn’t in the top 5 (killers with kill rates at 65% or higher). So for “average” players, we know Blight is at or below 65% kill rate. “Free wins” should mean 75% kill rate or higher, right?
I actually enjoy going against Blight more than a good portion of the other killers and have escaped against him plenty of times. I guess all those Blight players didn’t get the memo that they should be able to get “free wins” with him.

It's the same reason nothing that Survivors have is good - it's because BHVR doesn't care about the Survivor role. Wiggling is meant to force Killers to hook Survivors - yet they can still take you across the map without the bar filling up. It's one of the various "features" that exist so that BHVR can pretend they care. Frankly, they should've just made a PvE.
What do you mean “across the map”? Can you show just one example where you felt a killer was able to carry a survivor further than they should have been able to? (assuming the survivor was actually trying to wiggle out and killer wasn’t using Iron Grasp, which is a pretty mediocre and infrequently used perk)

At this point it is an "us vs. them" thing because BHVR has made it so. They never do anything to deal with the issues Survivors have with the game but immediately jump on crap Killer mains complain about.
Springtrap can go invisible, giving him an unfair advantage? Took weeks before they fixed it.
Streetwise became broken and gave Survivors an unfair advantage? Fixed within a week.
Killers release who are broken or overpowered? Rarely if ever touched.
A new Survivor item is added with one of the goals being to combat tunneling, an issue that has persisted since the game released? Nerfed to the point they might as well remove it after just a week.
Killers complain about gen rushing? Survivors now spawn next to each other while they have not removed the chance of Killers spawning right next to them.
Survivors still have issues with camping, slugging and tunneling? No real solutions, just placebos that don't fix or deter anything.
Killers receive new game mechanics each time a new Killer releases while Survivors get skins and maybe a decent perk whenever a new Survivor releases.
Maps are changed to aid Killers - Lampkin Lane, for example, was made incompetently too small because Killers complained about Survivors looping them on it. But any map that heavily benefits the Killer, like maps where doors spawn next to each other? Those are never touched.
If BHVR didn't want a "us vs. them" to be occurring in the fandom, they wouldn't just balance the game around holding Killer's hands. Blame them for this toxicity, because their incompetency is what's causing it. If they just bloody listen to both sides, instead of just Killers, maybe the game would actually be in a good place right now, but they've made it clear that ain't gonna happen. So enjoy your 10 minute queue times, because all your complacency and BHVR's incompetency is going to do is continue to drive Survivors away from the game until it's dead.
EDIT: Oh, and stop this condescending "wHaT's YoUr EsCaPe RaTe" crap you pull every time I see one of your comments. No one cares about escaping - the Survivor experience, heck the Killer experience, is more than just escape rates and kill rates. Defeat can be just as fun as winning so long as the game is balanced right, but even winning feels horrible because BHVR is too incompetent to do anything about it. Winning shouldn't feel like a chore and defeat shouldn't feel like it's inevitable.
I’m not sure repeatedly calling the devs “incompetent” is going to get them to respond to your demands.
I really don’t understand what you’re so angry about. I play survivor about half the time and are some matches super frustrating? Absolutely. But I find that a vast majority of the time it’s much more due to bad teammates than killers being “OP” or maps being “unbalanced”. Many of my matches are fun and competitive. According to my stats, I escape 43% of the time and I’m plenty satisfied with that. I don’t want the game to be guaranteed easy escapes most of the time.
I also play killer the other half of the time and I find that survivors who know what they are doing can easily escape against me. Killing survivors is a chore when they know how to loop and take advantage of strong maps (btw I noticed you conveniently left out the number of survivor-sided maps in your paragraph complaining about map balance).TL;DR version: the game feels very winnable for survivors who know what they are doing, and the escape rate stats prove that. As someone who plays both sides, I don’t understand what all the complaints are about. If you want to complain about busted matchmaking or issues with teammates not trying, I’ll join right along with you, but neither of those are game balance issues.
