  • Ouch - This is probably why they should make cross progression a thing. Then again, cross progression being off is a solid business model as well.

I have done both to try to figure it out. Does it still count if someone d/c's after I hook them?

I don't know, but I don't think DCs affect this, if you just knock the person down. Unless that means sacrificing them, in which case a DC really gets in the way.

It's silly and has some great jokes but I didn't like how self aware it was ,,oh maw gaaaawd guys we're in a dating sim :O".

I think some of the writing team was very cringed by their own work and took it out on us like "I can't believe you're playing this game you're so embarrassing ! "

  • Were you downing them with your chainsaw ?

Maybe it only registers M1s ?

  • I've honestly had a pretty good time as killer lately ! I can't tell about game balance, but I've mostly been matched with pretty chill survivors, I can't recall the last time I've seen a teabag. Even survivors that are out of my league and much better than me are usually pretty nice in my experience.

So my personal experience is 8/10 at the moment ! :)

(The missing 2 is because of DCs that make the game a bit skewed, and some performance issues I've had since the event, but nothing majorly frustrating so it's okay :D)

  • Same as I_am_Negan, I personally play very fair and my mmr stays at a place I'm happy with, where i rarely get full coordinated teams and when I do, they're generally pretty chill and nice in postgame chat.

  • I agree that it going on cool down without actually getting to sabotage is silly at best.

  • @TeabaggingGhostface said:

I'd leave the main effect mostly the same, but id make the undetectable persist for 2s, then I'd give it the lethal pursuer treatment and make it give all undetectable effects An extra 2s

    Oh that's such a good idea !!

  • My (admittedly few) killer games the past few days have been mostly against well-organized teams who made me run around like a fool for a good while. It was all in very good spirit, even the couple of games where I got 0K (despite actually trying). Guiding me to their boons in endgame collapse, giving me hits and gifting me their items, being cute in endgame chat.

Bless the players who let the event bring out their festive spirit :)

  • I'd say the silent majority of players you'll meet in game are actually quite nice, and even the most frustrating game can sometimes end up with soothing endgame chat/messages. It's all a matter of leaving your salt behind you. :)

I've been destroyed many times by teams that were honestly much better than me, and who instead of gloating or being condescending genuinely offered advices or highlighted what I did good in these games, wishing me luck in the next, these kind of things. I've met several friends that way as well. <3

Or games where I gave everything I got, got a 4k, and still had survivors staying to chat a bit and compliment me !

It's easy to feel cornered as the 1 in a 4 vs 1, and killer is so high paced you don't get any down time to chill. But most people don't have mean intentions. As you said, it's more than okay being a bit shaken up and angry, but you should never carry that frustration into the next match as it won't serve you or anyone else well. :)

  • I'm already impressed you got two marks to be honest.

I started playing Ghostface recently, and I'm used to a more fast-paced killer (Legion), so against such organized teams I rarely find time to get a stalk going, and it happens that I finish the game having marked no one and only used my shroud to mindgame loops.

Many legions play iri button, which effectively negates any extensive looping. Even when not, many will just frenzy hit you and run away, even when injured. I know legion shouldn't be hard to loop, but I somehow still struggle against them from time to time :-/.

Yeah, running from survivor to survivor while in Frenzy is their whole thing to apply pressure everywhere, even if some are already injured, but when it comes to actually downing someone they don't have any help base kit since downing with Frenzy's 5th hit is extremely situational. They otherwise don't get any speed or anti-loop when not in frenzy, which can make actually downing a good looper very infuriating.

Iri button is good, but you cannot down someone while in frenzy, so if you pop Frenzy to get rid of a pallet then the survivor you're chasing cannot be downed unless you stun yourself canceling frenzy, so any distance you gained breaking the pallet with Iri Button is lost when you're in fatigue. Most Legions who run Iri button also run Spirit Fury-Enduring because they synergies well with the add-on and actually helps downing survivors.

A lot of Legion players will also put on the Etched Ruler to inflict you with Oblivious from a Feral Slash and then cancel Frenzy to chase you while you're oblivious.

Otherwise they're a bit dependent on chase perks :)

  • There are not more killers than survivors. But there are more killers than needed for the amount of survivors playing.

I'd wager the 4:1 ratio is definitely closer to 3 : 2 at the moment, and that's why killers have longer queue times.

But from experience this past weekend and Tuesday evening, despite a +100% on survivor, my queues did not exceed 1min30, which is fine by me.

You write "killers who are easy to loop", but then list multiple killers that have anti-loop in their kit and are countered by shift w instead of looping:

Pig ambush can outplay loops, and is countered be leaving the loop (shift w)

Artist can injure / down you insanely fast when you try to loop her, thats why you shift w.

Dredge can outplay short loops with his remnant, but is countered by shift W

Wesker and Demo cannot be shift w'ed so easily, since they can catch up fast, but they still have anti loop in their kit.

The easiest killer to loop is Myers, by far. He has nothing to help him, apart from faster vaulting.

As easiest killer to loop, may I offer : Legion ? Good luck getting that second hit if the survivor can loop well haha !

Hag as well, if we're talking exclusively looping and not chasing in general (even though.. we almost could...). People can just leave the loop if you put down a trap, so it rarely helps, and she's extremely slow as well.

  • Survivors like to play against some killers for plenty of reasons beyond them being "weak". I don't particularly like Demo, but I guess some survivors like it because it's rare, from a popular tv show, it doesn't have any annoying mechanic in his base kit, there is the "demo puppy" meme, and it's not a solo stomper killer that needs extensive coordination to counter like Pinhead or Legion or Plague.

Plus, some survivors like strong killers. I personally really like going against Nurse (when they don't have Starstruck, I'm not a masochist haha), I think they're fun to try and mindgame. I'd take a Nurse game over a Deathslinger game any day, and he's on the lower end of the kill rates.

    Everyone has different tastes :)

  • Not exactly a perk combo per say but I would love a special synergy between Spies from the Shadows and Artist.

  • Her second blink attack really should be a special attack. It would make it kess common to have situations where perks get nerfed because of their potential on Nurse, and it would not significantly change their regular gameplay orherwise.

  • I wouldn't want my mmr to be visible to anyone. I already don't like prestige being visible before the match.

Also, I wouldn't really want to see it anyway. I'd probably obsess over every time it goes up or down, feel compelled to compare with my friend's mmrs... No, I'm good not seeing it.

  • Legion is great to learn killer !

It's an "M1 killer" (it doesn't have any complicated mechanic that is specific to them in chase) so any skills you'll learn from them will make you better at killer in general. Legion is great to injure survivors quickly. It's power, Feral Frenzy, makes you detect survivors at long range, so if you're getting frustrated with the one you're chasing, you can just hit them with frenzy (which is not that hard because it makes you run faster) and then find another target. It makes you more aware of what anyone is doing at any time and allows you to patrol gens a bit more easily.

Their perks are quite good as well (Discordance lets you know if 2 or more survivors are on the same generator, Iron Maiden makes it so that survivors can't hide in lockers without you knowing about it and it makes them possible to down in one hit, and Mad Grit is kind of niche, but it works well against teams that take hits for each other while you're trying to hook someone)

Other than him, Wraith is also great for beginners, though I can't say I've played him much :)

Wish you luck on playing killer ! The gameplay is much more intense than survivor, you don't get any down time, but it can be a lot of fun. Always keep a clear head, try not to get angry or hurt if people are trying to provoke you (I don't get many of those personally, but I hear it's common).

    Good luck !

  • It really does, yes.

There is nothing harder or more frustrating than a team that's already outside your skill level, and that on top of it, is well-coordinated. You can sometimes get a few kills, but that's as much on their mistakes as it is on your mindgames haha !

It's actually possible to baby-brain them sometimes though. Like when I started playing Hag, I would put so many obvious traps near gens, that higher level teams would not expect because no one with any amount of skill as Hag would place them there xD

(I did get destroyed afterwards, but at least it was funny and taught me a lot).

  • The problem in your case is not SWF but matchmaking.

that video did not depict an impossible scenario? how does one get around this type of thing?

I said it's rarely impossible, in your case I'm not sure

In that video, you weren't helped by RPD. This map has the most narrow, mid-corridor doorways any map has, and it's easy to bump into them. Boil Over is not equally strong on all maps, and not even on all indoor maps : It's mostly okay in Lery since there's a lot of hooks in wide corridors so if you succeeded getting out of a room, you're fine. It's horrible, horrible, horrible on Midwich, because of an inherent problem of Midwich (the hook deadzones).

I can't say I would have handled your situation better than you did because I really don't know RPD that well and I'm always lost in it. But if I'm not mistaken, you downed them in the corridor near the open area on the rooftop, where a hook basically always spawns either on one side or on the other (in your case I think it appeared near the hole in the wall, on the opposite side of the gen). I might have gone there, thinking in the open rooftop area I might be less likely to bump into stuff. I can't promise I would have managed to hook.

It wasnt a bad call to choose the downstairs hook, as it appeared closer. However, I think there were more narrow doorways in the way.

There was also the option to leave them slugged once you knew you wouldn't make it to a hook, and look for the other person. It's not really nice but in that case its not like you would be slugging specifically for the 4K, you just couldn't hook. Either they would crawl to another space, or they'd stay downed. At the end of the day, their choice.

Now, another thing that makes handling Boil Over easier : Boil Over will make you move from left to right. So if you know you're approaching a doorway that might be a bit hard to go through, you can actually let Boil Over push you through by angling your camera at a perpendicular angle to the doorway. The first time you got stuck, when exiting the stairs, if you'd looked a bit on the left (as though running into the wall), Boil Over would have actually pushed you through the door.

It's a counter-intuitive gymnastic, but it can work once you're used to it :)

  • Sounds like Boil Over in an indoor map, nothing fishy about it in my experience

It can be annoying but it rarely makes it impossible to hook

  • It's silly and cringe and honestly a good laugh.

  • I don't think it should be removed from the game.

I do think its healing speed buff should be nerfed or removed.

  • We also need a toggle option to make the "fast queue vs actually matching mmr" your choice.

I don't mind waiting a minute more if it gets me a match that's actually balanced rather than giving me 10h survivors to stomp or making me go against an insanely good Blight.

  • I haven't seen any particular BM since the event, on either side. But I only played during the first days so maybe once people got their cosmetics they turned to crime.

I'm wondering about a possible solution. Perhaps there would be a limit to the amount of very rare items/add-ons that could be purchased within a given timeframe. For people who have been playing for years (especially those who never prestiged, like some of my friends), they already have a nice stash of very rare add-ons and items. But it was difficult to accumulate that stash (and then, sometimes, the bloodweb would give a bunch all at once lol). So maybe there's a way to have a store while keeping certain things more rare.

Maybe we could even have certain rare items available for purchase only at the whim of the entity. Perhaps today, it's Judith's Tombstone, but tomorrow, it's not available. That would kinda suck though. I like the other idea more, but this one is more closely related to the current setup so I'm torn.

Several browser games (I'm thinking pet sims but we're talking economy anyway, not gameplay) have a concept similar to this, where you have a store that has set slots for each rarity level (with only maybe one or two for the rarest, and 4-5 for the more common) that will reset after 12 or 24h. So if you're not interested by the rare addons of the day, come back another time.

I personnally prefer the bloodweb over this, since if I make 300k bp in one afternoon I'll go through multiple bloodwebs and often pick up quite a lot of rare items, but I could see both systems working at the same time. One regular old bloodweb that is not changed, and maybe a "blood store of the day" in the next tab with a selection of one ultra rare, a couple of rares and then greens and yellows. That way you have a chance every day to have that one really good ultra rare you like without having to go through multiple webs. It would make accumulating them possible at a reasonable rythm without having to grind every day, like if you know next week you can't play, you can save 30k from your games and the rest of the week only log on to get the daily addon / item you like.

    It's just an idea though.

Just being able to sell some items half price would already be really good.

(Also, these games are FOMO overlords so I don't know how healthy it would really be)

  • I think the bloodweb has a good role of money sink so that broken items/addons are not used too often in game.

I would love a store, or even just to be able to sell the dozens of map offerings I don't typically use, but at the same time it would make really strong items and addons considerably more common, and build diversity would suffer a bit.

No, it's pretty bad in either ways, I'm usually happy when I see it as killer, it usually means the survivors is not using a super meta build or anything like that.

True ! A little variety is always nice.

  • Boil Over is that really ambivalent perk where when you play it as survivor you take it off after a few games because you don't think it does anything, but when you see it as killer it's always more effective than you'd think.

  • It could work to lessen toxicity if at the end of EGC, survivors still standing/slugged would be at a "draw", neither getting escape bonus nor awarding sacrifice points for killer. Just an official draw, you don't lose your items since you didn't die, but you don't win bonus points/mmr either. That way, killers would have absolutely no reason not to hook during EGC.

However, such a measure would impact very negatively on Blood Warden's efficiency. Maybe its effect could adapt to "when Blood Warden is equipped, any survivor still standing in the trial at the end of EGC are immediately sacrificed" on top of its regular effect. I could see very surprising outcomes of people staying in the map giggling to themselves that they'll get the draw, only to be sacrificed with very little warning.

  • As someone has said before, when Legion hits someone while in frenzy, they will hear your heartbeat if you're somewhat within their terror radius. Legion has great built-in survivor detection, but if they're on the other side of the map, you can actually outrun them.

Keep in mind also that any missed attack while in frenzy makes them recover for a couple of seconds, and they then have to recharge their power for like 15 to 20 seconds. So if you know how to spin, or if you have Resilience of something, you can actually make them miss an attack and go out of power. Stunning them works the same unless they're running a specific mixtape as an addon.

A lot of Legions will enter frenzy to inflict a status effect on you (like Oblivious) before canceling frenzy to target you, so that they can get a bit more power in chase.

But yeah Legion can be a kind of "hot potato" situation where either you manage to take them out of power but he'll target you, or you take a hit and they're (most times) off your back for a while. So either you're injured or you're in chase.

Thankfully (or rather, unfortunately for me because I'm a Legion main), other than finding and injuring survivors, Legion is pretty whatever for the rest of the chase. They dosn't have any particular help during chase, just a regular m1. (This is why a lot of them run addons that inflict status effects from frenzy hits and then cancel into a chase, so that they can counter Windows of Opportunity for example).

    sigh I love this killer.

  • Honeslty not that often, or brown/yellow medkits with little to no interesting addons to them. I'm seeing way more CoH than medkits. Also, a lot of flashlights recently for some reason.

When playing survivor, I actually rarely see anyone bringing items, so our lobbys are mostly 1/2 items and mostly browns or yellows.

  • Oh I had that same thing happening to me and my teammate the other day, where they were grabbed right after unhooking me. We were all very confused about it !

  • Maybe ?

But the game is kind of buggy too. The other day I got disconnected fromm the last survivor jumping through hatch.

I would be all for killers getting double points for thumbs up since it could be more challenging for them to receive any. They need to do something to make the game less toxic. Punishing players isn't working.

You're right that punishing players does nothing but exacerbate the resentment between people who only play one side.

I don't even think the community (at least in game) is quite as toxic as we might think. I've taken to being the "cheerful endgame chat player" and I receive positive reactions very often. A lot of players are silent by anticipation of toxicity, but once you show good spirit they're all for a little banter or niceties. :)

It's the same with games where I'm severely outplayed, most times the survivors are really good sports about it and don't particularly try to taunt me. They're just better than me and don't rub it in my face. I've been offered solid advice and wishes of luck more times than I've been insulted.

So the situation is very much salvageable, and more than ready for a positive system like making Thumbs Up matter :D

I wouldn't want it to be a reportable offense either, but I can see it being abused and I think that would upset people. If it happened too much it would ruin the games for a lot of people (mostly survivors since its more likely they would experience it the most since killers hold the power there).

I mean, in the case of being able to boost someone's reputation, I don't think the killer would be in the nicest spot either. A lot of people in this community are bad sports and would not Thumbs Up the killer. I actually think a neat thing could be doubling the individual Thumbs Up reward for killer when a survivor gives it to them despite having been killed/4K.

I don't think there are enough farming games to warrant a fear of the system being abused from them honestly. I do agree though that you shouldn't be able to Thumbs Up your swf members. That would be abusable so easily, and also it wouldn't feel very rewarding wondering how many people actually thought you were good vs your friend giving you props every match.

But yeah I really wish they did something with this feature. I use it sometimes but it feels meh when you know the player won't know you appreciated them.

I don’t even think they can change self care in a way where it won’t be the most popular perk

Inner healing is literally free to all players yet people still use SC over it

I mean to be fair, right now a lot of killers are running Pentimento, so that's a pretty big thorn in Inner Healing's side.

I'm not by any means saying SC is better, but in this meta Inner Healing might disadvantage the team more than running other healing perks like CoH or SC.

  • I love the idea of making the Thumbs Up button actually useful, but I don't like where you make farming/being friendly a reportable offense. If everyone is happy with a friendly game, there's no reason to make it reportable/bannable.

I do have reservations about making a reputation stat that would reward you things if it is publicly visible. I don't see the need for a Thumbs Down button as well, if your point was precisely to reward rather than punish.

  • Now it takes skill (or scripts, unfortunately), and mending adds a bit of difficulty for the survivor in the rest of the chase (visual impairment + can't wait in a single place to assess where the killer is coming from or hide under their nose), leading to more impulsive movement I would guess.

It's still a really good perk if you know how to use it (I personally never used either version, since I prefer Lithe + Dance), but still fragile as a little lag counters it.

  • Rough recent games in the gameplay department I see !

I thought about making a similar spreadsheet, but I'm not really bothered keeping track of all my survivor games, my friend already complains about me taking too much time chatting with the killer or solos. (all good things generally !)

I started doing it for my killer games, but I was learning a new killer at the time and I got embarrassed by my, hm, humble beginning. So I stopped tracking haha ! Might start doing it again at some point.

    Hi,

so prior to that update that introduced the prestige system 6.1.0, I prestiged all my survivors and killers to P1, so they could then be P3 when the 6.1.0 patch came. All my killer were granted the correct levels (P3), but my survivors didn’t. Meg was at zero, Dwight P1 for example, when they all should have been P3. So now they gave my survivors two more levels, but that left most at P2. I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing this issue.

So you're saying that before the update, you prestiged Meg to P1, and after the update she was P0 ? That seems odd :/

  • Hag can be tons of fun without camping or trapping under the hook ! At least, until you reach high mmr I guess.

What can be discouraging about her is that her learning curve is pretty much an N. Your first games will be hard because you're just figuring out how to play her, then you will have the easiest time against players who have likely never faced her, and so without using any particularly thought-out strat.... and then you will suddenly get players who know how to loop and exactly how to counter her. And you will cry.

Right now, I'm in the beginning of that third phase, where my games are at a 50/50 of "players who can't handle me and I will 3-4K" or "very good coordinated team that stomps with 4 escape" (but honestly I'm lucky enough to often face teams that are very good sports and don't tease me about my losses, so I don't really feel bad about them :D).

I recommend always having a couple of traps in your "inventory" when you're chasing, because if you have a trap setting speed add-on, you can either trap mid-chase, or if you don't, fake the trap to make them leave the loop and go somewhere you either already had traps in, or is less bothersome to you/allows you to pressure a nearby gen, or you can maybe catch up to them because they left the loop seeing you lean down before checking if you were actually placing a trap down.

Any perk that makes you instadown is also very good, because lots of people are running Circle of Healing and if you're playing hit-and-run that hurts really bad. I've been running Haunted Grounds and Make Your Choice, which is very common on Hag but is quite efficient.

    Anyway.

I love that killer and I wish so hard I could face her more often now that her music was updated ! :D

1 … 33 34 35 36 37 … 57
