I wouldn't say tunneling and camping were nerfed into oblivion. Any survivor on this forum and outside of it would say... the opposite.
5 sec BT is a joke, and OTR is a DLC perk. Most casuals won't have it, unless its changes were a good enough marketing decision as to make people massively buy the DLC.

Survivor perspective / Survivor red flags :
- Teammates spawning next to you and immediately proceeeding to pull down the pallets nearby (To attract the killer? To feel safer? I don't know but it's annoying and not a good sign).
- Teammates immediately going into a locker upon spawning. (Probably new player but won't help much)
- Teammate never walking or running, just crouching around the map without Urban Evasion, even when killer is obviously in chase on the other side of the map. (Probably new as well)
- Teammate that lets you go on second hook. I'm not saying they should absolutely try the most unsafe save of their lives, but I've been in games where I'm on hook, my friend is chased far away, and the two other teammates keep doing gens. Until I'm on second hook, and my friend is slugged. And still take their sweet time coming after that ! (Won't be team-players, will probably leave the game as soon as doors open regardless of their health state)
Survivor perspective / Killer red flags :
- Tunnels the sh*t out of the player with a flashlight, even if they haven't used it or clicked it. (Insecurity?)
- Doesn't break the gens completely (doesn't wait until it sparks). (Either new to being killer, or very impatient/tilted)
Killer perspective / Survivor red flags :
- Classic teabags at pallets, spam fast vaults for attention, clicky-clicking flashy-flashlight. (Probs a-holes)
- Survivor keeps running into you (doesn't move their camera to check where you are) (Probably new players)
- Same survivor keeps running into your traps if you're Hag or Trapper (Probably new players)
-
Ah, yes, I especially like the hacker's name, very creative !
Also, keeping the 20+ seconds of loading screen in the clip somehow made it even better.

I mean, killers already convinced the devs that 4-men swf, which are about 5-6% of the survivor playerbase, are the all-powerful enemies and that nerfing them is worth making more than 50% of the survivor playerbase suffer.
I don't think the devs are going to take that 5% of survivor's opinion into account, considering they already don't listen to the 50+% soloQ players.
If thana is nerfed, it's gonna be because it's unfun for most of the survivors, not just for 5% of them.
So Thana seems quite safe to me.
-
Still a beginner killer here, but I feel like I waste less time getting stunned/breaking the pallet than hoping the survivor will fall for a poorly executed mindgame. (Especially if the survivor tries to blind after the stun, which gives me a free pallet break)
Or I just play Legion, and vault over the pallet.
-
On low-ish mmr, I've actually encountered less Legions than I generally did before the update, which is surprising !
I've mostly gone against people trying out new killers : Onis, a couple of Spirits and Blights (who are usually nowhere to be seen in low mmr), Ghostfaces, Clowns, Dredges, Pyramid Heads and a few beginner Nurses.
Also, as someone who mostly plays Legion and Hag as killer, people DCing against specifically Legion is far from new. I haven't played killer since the update, but even before, playing friendly and without any slowdown perk (Discordance, Iron Grasp, Mad Grit ad Spies from the Shadows), it's always hard to go more than two games in a row without either someone DCing or killing themselves on first hook...
As to what makes me play Legion rather than other killers ?
Their lore is cool, running fast with a knife is fun, trying to get chains is fun and also good practice to learn not to waste hits.
Also, I love chill friendly games in the bunny mascot costume. Being able to vault over pallettes and windows while in frenzy opens up to parkour races with survivors, which I enjoy a lot ! I play a lot of friendly games as them (since people DC a lot) and have had several survivors asking to join the Legion, which always makes me laugh.
Anyway, as much as I like this killer, I understand that too many games against them might be unpleasant. (IMO, too many games against any killer are unpleasant)
Just don't jump to the conclusion that everyone plays them because they're an easy killer to get 4Ks with. It's not necessarily true :)

I love your name.

I use it as a survivor sometimes, and the boost (when dropping down) is so situational that most times it doesn't appear.
Boil Over can be useful though on certain maps with lots of walls or buildings, as there are more chances the killer will have trouble going through a door or run into walls. It's also good enough if you have someone lining up to take a protection hit. It has "saved" me (read : I got downed 15 seconds later when the killer caught up) a couple of times, but it remains rarely useful.
It still deserves a shot from time to time, but definitely not a constant fixture in a build.
-
Regardless of if there has to be a losing side (which I am not convinced of), I feel like gradually alienating a population of players that constitute more than 50% of the survivor playerbase, and making the game even less beginner friendly, is if anything a ballsy move for a game that's starting to grow old.
We'll see how it pays off.
-
If I find two hooks similarly placed, no joke, I'd have my friend and I each stand underneath one until the killer hooks us.
It just has such a meme role play potential ! What kind of conversation can these survivor have ? xD
"So... How's the view up there?"
"Shut up."
-
Also, OTR is a DLC perk, which means most casual players don't have it, and understandably don't want to pay 6$ and grind god knows how many hours just to get that one perk on their builds.
-
Killers bought the game. They're free to play it as they think is fun, whether that is aiming for consistent 4Ks or having pacifist games.
I like my serious games as Hag, but I'll spare the newbie who has obviously never gone against her and keeps walking on my traps.
I also like my silly games as Bunny Legion playing hide and seek and racing survivors on pallettes.
This game can be incredibly toxic at times. A lot of people forget that games are supposed to be fun. A lot of killers forget that survivors are actual people trying to have fun, and the other way around, survivors forget that killers are real players too.
When some survivors are reduced to hope they'll get AFK killers to finally secure some bloodpoints or do tome challenges, and when some killers are anxious in lobby because they're afraid of being bullied by swfs, a little kindness goes a long way.
So I'll keep giving hatch or sparing people with funny usernames, just like I'll keep complimenting the killers that did a really great job killing my lobby but who in their next games will be called sweaty c*nts.
-
Wait, not the main point of the post at all but, is shaking your head yes at pallets considered toxic?
I do it pretty often (ironically, as Legion!) in my games, but in my perspective it's to show I'm good sports? I usually do it if the survivor teabags after getting a pallet stun, to tell them "hey congrats you got the stun!" or "Yeah that was pretty funny" if they barely got it.
I didn't think anything from it and the survivors I go against generally seem to take it well? I feel like emoting like this as killer reminds survivors that I'm an actual person and if they were taunting or clicking, they often lay off it after a couple exchanges like this, at least in my experience.
(Before anyone comes at me for playing Legion, I play them super friendly, and I run Discordance, Iron Grasp, Mad Grit and Spies From The Shadows. I also haven't played killer since the update)
-
The idea is sweet ! However, I do see problems with it.
I feel like adding minigames would take too much of the survivor's attention. We're supposed to be vigilant and this could go horribly wrong against stealth killers.
Also, I feel like being unable to complete the minigame because you saw the killer coming and stood up, therefore making the gen explode, should not be a free gen kick for the killer. Right now it's rare enough that you stop repairing right when there's a skillcheck, but if there were longer mini games it would happen more often and do the killer's regression job in their place.

Played survivor yesterday, in about 10 games, there were 3 that hard tunneled, which is annoying but not significantly worse than pre-update in my experience.
(I play at a low-ish mmr, I'm not very good at survivor yet but not a complete newbie either)
As for playing killer, I heard the queue times were terrible right now so I haven't played that role since the update.
I don't understand either the fun of tunneling. My most fun games are either monkeying around with survivors as Legion (a LOT of survivors DC when they see Legion, so I'm often friendly with the others if they're willing to play along) or serious games with Hag where I go out of my way to not tunnel (especially the occasional poor confused unhooked who has obviously never played against Hag before and somehow triggers half of my traps in the area, which always makes me laugh).
I've seen some killers justify early game tunneling like "but they brought [this] item !" (which is clearly a personnal attack against them and not just using an item from the game). I mean, if you see something you don't like in the lobby, just dodge. As a Hag player, if I see three flashlights, you bet I'm waiting some more for a match-up that won't counter me entirely. There's no sense going into a match that you know will make you angry and frustrated.

Another thing that I think plays into the whole "accessibility" thing is how affordable the game gets.
Nearly all of the nerfed survivor perks were either general perks (Spine Chill) or perks from non-DLC characters (DH, BT, Iron Will, Self Care).
Sure, there are plenty of interesting builds to make that are not the old meta. But many of them depend on perks you either need to buy a DLC for, or wait for months to have them available in the Shrine of Secrets.
I think the charm of the old meta was also the fact that you could play the game at high ranks without buying DLCs. I think if some of these perks were used as much as they were, it's also because they were free to obtain with simple grind. I sincerely hope the devs will not make a trend of nerfing the perks that every player has access to in favour of DLC perks.

Endgames are 50-50 in my experience playing survivor these past few days.
The NOED change actually makes it exciting to look for the hex totem, so I've had a couple of games where the team goes on a search for it to try and rescue the last survivor hooked, especially on smaller maps. (You probably won't see us doing that in Red Forest). This is something that I never did before the update.
But if the team is mostly injured or one hook away from dying, we generally leave. I nearly always play with one friend and two solo q, and if I'm in the situation in endgame where I'm hooked and camped (which is valid, the killer has no objective left and has every right to secure their kill, especially if it's the first) I just tell my friend to leave me. He'll gesture to the solo qs to leave as well and get as many escapes as possible. There's no sense in trading one death for another or risk major snowballing.

Some famous meme builds have names, I don't know all of them since I'm a very new player, but here's one I'm particularly enjoying going against :
Impossible Skill Check Build : Unnerving Presence, Huntress Lullaby, Overcharge, Merciless Storm
It's usually played on the Doctor with add-ons to increase the TR, and consists on making skillcheck as hard and frequent as possible, to the point where it may be near impossible to do gens without blowing them up multiple times.
-
I have gone against ISC Doctor only once before, but it was a real blast !
I generally like going against Doctor, I think he has fun mechanics, and ISC Doctors are rare enough to be exotic rather than frustrating. I get why people might not like it, but it's so funny to me when gens are exploding left and right. It's also good practice !
So all in all, regardless of if it's viable or powerful, I really enjoy going against ISC ! :D
As for other meme builds, any backpack build with Mad Grit/Iron Grasp is fun in my opinion !

No amount of bashing or looking down on survivors for whining will change the fact that the update is scary for them.
I think a lot of the (I'm going to presume) elated killer mains making fun of survivors and telling them to "get good" don't really get who the update is gonna screw over the most.
High mmr meta-using survivors aren't the ones who will be most affected. They already know how to play efficiently. They know how to loop and mindgame, they can adapt with a slightly worse escape rate, but it won't be too frustrating because they can still have exciting, somewhat balanced games because their knowledge of the game makes up for the nerfs and base kit changes.
But newer players, casuals and solo q, most of whom didn't even use DH or other meta perks, are the ones for whom this really s*cks. Because it was already hard to get better in a game with rampant camping and tunneling (which were made stronger than ever), but at least the better escape rate soothed the frustration and made people want to get better. Now we'll see, but I don't see casual players staying survivors when it's not rewarding getting obliterated uniformingly.
I might be wrong here, but I think the incentives might not be enough to better the queue time, because it's going to be so much more rewarding both in bloodpoints and in fun to play killer from now on.
When you think about how hard it is for solo q and new players to reach the stage to open the doors then and now, some of the nerfs/buffs seem laughable. Being able to see NOED's aura? Sure, that's great to organise a rescue when you have several teammates alive. When you're on your own, you're toast either way.
Lone Survivor repairs gens and opens doors faster? That's great ! I'm sure if works well when most killers I go against slug the 3rd survivor to get the 4rth without giving them the opportunity to open a door or find hatch (which is a smart strategy, don't get me wrong, but makes Lone Survivor's changes useless).
Only time will tell how people react and adapt, but let's not be so condescending towards survivors being uneasy about the update. Chances are the person you're taunting about losing DH is a newer player who never used it anyway.

(Warning : slight spoilers for Sally Face, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Until Dawn and House of Ashes)
If we're speaking REALLY indie game, Sal Fisher from Sally Face. The game also has some kind of malevolent Entity and already has a door open to alternate dimensions, so lore-wise it could make sense.
It would, however, be another short young man with a kitchen knife, which is not that exciting since we already got both Legion and Ghostface.
Ink Demon Bendy from Bendy and the Ink Machine could be cool, but I think it would depend on another teleportation based mechanic and people are getting a bit tired of that after both Onryo and Dredge (also ink puddles would be similar to Freddy's blood puddles). It would fit Eerie of Crows well though !
W!Josh Washington from Until Dawn could be very cool, and it would be interesting how the mostly movement-based vision could be used as a mechanic. It would either be very cool or very annoying.
Come to think of the Dark Pictures Anthology, one of those vampires from House of Ashes could be cool as well, in the same vein as Dredge when it comes to beastly killers vs humans. It could have a sound enhancing perk, like hearing survivors' footsteps more easily, and an ability to infect survivors or feed (get a token based bonus) from downed survivors.

Not something that happened very recently, but on my second ever game of DbD (about a month ago) I went againt a Nurse on Midwich.
She was blinking all over the place, I hadn't even FOUND a generator yet and she had already downed my friend and hooked him, downed the David I spawned next to, hooked him too, and was chasing the third survivor.
I was understandably a bit overwhelmed and as soon as I got my friend unhooked, and I heard the terror radius, I decided to give myself a pep talk inside a locker. This is how I learned she was running Iron Maiden.
One hook later, I blew up a gen because the cry startled me, and then just because I was bad, and she found me. I knew she had Iron Maiden. She knew that I knew about Iron Maiden. Can you guess what I did ? I hid in a locker in the next hallway.
She just stood in front of the locker, obviously disappointed in me, I came out slowly to accept my fate... And she walked away.
After that point, any time she saw me, she just walked by me and left. I blew up my gens like, maybe four or five times after that point, and every time she'd come to check on me and then walk away to chase someone else. I could almost hear her going "You're doing doing great sweetie just keep going".
She didn't let me unhook my teammates, but she let me do one whole gen (we still had done NONE and there was 1 dead and my two remaining teammates on death hook) before she untimely disconnected, leaving me very confused as she was obviously an experienced nurse on her way to get a 4K.
Regardless, she obviously saw that I was very new and essentially adopted me and let me practice my skill checks in peace.
Her being so nice to me in what was basically my first game (at least the first game where I survived more than 2 minutes) actually gave me mad respect for Nurses, and whenever I see a possibly new Nurse player get a bad game I'll let her kill me after my teammates escape. I just have a good feeling with them now. Nurses are cool.
Also, I kept from that game a certain distate for Midwich, because somehow I can NEVER find my way in that building. On my first killer game on the map (and maybe 3rd killer game ever), I couldn't for the life of me find the stairs, so the survivors just did all of the upstairs gens and I was stuck downstairs like an idiot. A Jake actually had to come find me, make the "follow me" emote and lead me to the stairs..... Which was adorable of him. (And very needed)
(The game was pretty much already lost and I didn't want to throw Jake's trust out the window, so I just dedicated the rest of the game's time to exploring the map and giving pallet stun points to my new friend Jake as thanks)
Anyway, I was very lucky to have really nice opponents in most of my first games as both survivor and killer. I'm still not quite "good" at the game, but I don't know how I would have turned out (or if I would have kept playing) if I had the bad luck of going against mostly toxic killers/survivors in my first hours of the game.
