  • I don't take offense at all. I usually just find it funny. Like doing it a mm away from safety (exiting the game) that doesn't really show anything or take any skill. If they give you more points with a hit, awesome. IF they come back into the match to do it, holy crap that takes some cojonas, and again I still am not mad (more impressed).

If you know they are just tbagging at the gate, I'd do exactly what @TunnelVision said. especially with some killers, you can actually get a hit on them. (I've seen a nurse blink and bodyblock them and then hit, got a backflip and game over. I've seen spirit plays as well.)They get cocky and get too far from safety. WHAM. GGs. But I still don't get mad or bothered either way.

Regardless of what ends up happening, I don't take offense... I usually had a fun match overall and its okay. As for the insta-heal, those are changing, but I wouldn't take issue with them, if you are annoyed by them, I guess I say use NOED and killers that can insta-down. Right now, with the changes incoming people are using them a lot more, so assume a medkit has one and play accordingly, that's all. Hell, bring mori, franklins etc.

Just try to play in a way that gives you joy. Unless they are hacking or exploiting, I'll always go ggs wp. If you don't take winning or losing seriously, you will enjoy the game more, in my opinion. Learn from mistakes, and practice. I guess you could always just nod your head back, if you wanted.

  • Overall, "funny". I'd say. If I am doing steam achieve's or just messing around, I guess I'd say calm.

I mean. I guess some games are pretty "chill" I'd say, like you kind of just go about it and its just, it is what it is, ya know? It's more so funny. There's always something different that happens and silly stuff that goes on, some of which may be considered "toxic", but I don't know I think its funny. Like we are all just having fun/playing around. I don't think laughing is "calm", but still positive more than a negative. I think the most non calming is the end game chat, when people are upset. It sucks when you had a fun time and someones upset about something. But anyways, I usually am laughing and that is nice. OMG and some people that joke around in end game chat too.... so hilarious.... haha. ( was playing clown not to long ago, for daily, and they were talking about the bottles like sort of like RPing in character, man it was funny.)

It's better if you don't take things so seriously.

Finding a lobby, is usually the most frustrating part. o.o

  •  The battlepass is also being handled exceptionally well and is not questionable. Purely cosmetic in nature and it allows you to earn your money back for an insane discount on cosmetics (over 8k value just accounting for cosmetics in the pass) is excessively charitable.

Eh. To consider it a "discount".... ehhh. And even charity.... They came up with the "sales" and prices.... the best way I can think to word it... is like a store, they mark up prices, and then put them as "discounted" when really it is closer to what it originally should be in the first place, etc.. But people flock to the "sale" thinking it's awesome.... That sorta thing... I used to think your way, but not anymore. They've made bloody millions also.. I don't understand why people are basically trying to imply they need donations and the games lively hood could be threatened and possible bankruptcy etc etc. It's just too overboard for me. (Saying in general. From what I've been seeing.) They are making several ways of profit from not only this game... and continue to find ways to gain even more profit... (as well as free labor...) To put it simply I just don't agree. If they were ever in danger, I am sure they'd let us all know.

I think it was like estimated $25-50 million in revenue a year .... yeah... People are allowed to question stuff, IMO. Like I am just so over hearing how they need the few "scraps" of money they get from cosmetics etc... to "stay afloat".... They are making profit...

@SpaceCoconut Nice video/letter.. you hit some good points.

  • I too have seen streamers use that "ability" to predict and determine where a survivor is or where they are/going. It's pretty incredible to see. Definitely takes practice and getting to know spawns etc. Usually streamers play for thousands of hours, so they probably figured it out over time. I should start asking them for tips about it tho.

So you just wish the devs would be transparent about whatever it is they decide to do? Fair enough, I suppose. Alternately, benefit of the doubt, they might have just changed their minds. Maybe they'll come out and explain the logic behind charms being exclusive (if, in fact, they are) if people like you are curious about it.

Yeah. I'd definitely appreciate more transparency. (which is another thing I thought they said in a different post I can't find though XD like they will communicate more etc..) lol

Oh, well I'll just hope and stay tuned. :)

  • @Fibijean But that's the thing, if they want exclusive that's fine, just say so, and then just don't say you don't? Like. IDK. I just want to be told it straight forward.

Like.. Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.

But benefit of the doubt, maybe I got it wrong... /shrug.

I'm going to be waiting to see if I can get the 1k back by just playing free until I get to lvl 68 in the rift

That's not a bad idea. Because if people buy thinking they can get the money back (auric cells), but can't actually put in the time to get up to that level, then they won't actually be able to get it back. And then next rift, have to put more money in etc.

  • And oh, I guess its 60 serum total, so 10 serum per piece.

Also, they are apparently making charms an exclusive, I swore I thought they said repeatedly they no longer which to make exclusive items anymore... o_O

    I'm curious too.

the special gens and hooks are only bloodpoints sadly, yeah. and no, you wont have to progress through 60 tiers, according to this screenshot coming from their website where the archives and rift are explained:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/130/NKBC30C1J1H5.png

looks like its just kinda random how the serum is laid out? this is all we have so far.

Ok, so I guess we just wait and see then. Thanks for the info.

  • So, you can only get putrid serum by completing the rift tiers? If so which tier do you get the 6th and final serum ? (It's 1 serum per piece right? ) Do you need to do all 70?

I'm confused at the purpose of the special gen's and hooks as well as the items from the blood web, is that purely for extra BloodPoints then?

  • Not entirely sure I understand you right, but by paying money to unlock the premium pass, you will get the premium rewards along with the free rewards at every tier you unlock. If you are going the free route you only unlock the free rewards, not the premium.

If you unlock the free rewards, I'd like to know if by then paying for the premium pass, it will also unlock all the tiers you have unlocked up to that point in the premium section, as well. That should be the case.... you'd think... at least..

However, overall, I am waiting for their "official release" statement that hopefully goes over all this and more when they describe how they plan to do things. I assume they will make an announcement...

    Anyways..

I'm less than thrilled about it all. Not sure what to think. I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt... I'm waiting to see.

And my facts, are coming from the PTB when you tier up with the pass you unlock both at the same time as you move up along it, doing the challenges and such.

  • Sooooo. You are deciding to ignore the fact that you have to PAY and spend money in order to buy a game.... in order to classify it as FREE.... Okay. Good to know. Several people tried to let you know that is not what it the actual term FREE TO PLAY means. If you want to say it is "free to play after you own it" that would be entirely accurate. However, classifying this game as free to play, would be incorrect.

And uh. Yea, it is actually also in the dictionary. Just FYI.

    free-to-play

    adjective GAMING

    1. relating to or denoting an arrangement in which basic access to a game is granted without charge while more advanced features must be paid for.
    2. "the reluctance of many gamers to spend anything has led to free-to-play games"

You do whatever you wish with that knowledge.

I also respectfully disagree with insinuating this game is Free, in order to argue the dev's/company needs more money to supply content etc. (The initial payment alone is giving them money and supports them...)

  • Most people trying to swf have this issue.

So, this was done probably to entice people with higher rank, to buy the game yet again (making a "smurf" account) and then play the game with their lower/newplayer friend. People actually do this. So low tier killers still are playing and matching against rank 1's they just don't realize it.

Fun = paying more. Didn't you know? /s

  • Whatever makes them the most money, I suppose.

  • I've also changed my view and stance. I do not think the rift was in good show of people that purchased and paid for the game. To employ free to play monetizing strategies. on top of others.. I just .. idek... Because the fact is,, it's not free, and it should be, even if you have to grind to get it, I could understand. But having to pay on top of already paying for the game?

    Ugh...

THE CAKE IS A LIE PEOPLE!

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/94562/how-can-so-many-not-understand-what-free-to-play-means

Holy ######### there is actually so much wrong with with this entire post, I'm gonna need to break it down into parts. First, there are many pricing models in gaming and the three most popular are purchased, free-to-play, and subscription-based. An example of a purchased game is Dead by Daylight, a F2P game being Team Fortress 2, and a subscription game being RuneScape. A game is not F2P just because you are not paying a monthly fee. If I pay $20 at the gate to own the game in my library, absolutely in no way is that game free to play. I paid for the software. It is literally impossible for a game that requires you to buy it to be free to play.

As for "looking at things from a developer side" yeah I agree with you. It is difficult to run a game and sometimes as a developer you need extra ways of bringing in money. Isn't that why we started to get paid DLC content at $7 a pop? In exchange for supporting the game further we gave them money via DLCs they released. Then Behaviour decided to inject this game with microtransactions, giving those that ponied up the money for skins all the customization in the world. Meanwhile us losers who can't afford to buy new skins are stuck with #########-all because they refuse to give us anything beyond a few ######### recolors and Prestige clothing. That's it. Why is it that a game that costs $20 at the door then shoves DLCs down our throats also allowed to peddle micro transactions to us all the time? If the purpose is to bring in more money for Behaviour; isn't that the reason they made DLC? Why, it couldn't be that Behaviour has slowly become money hungry, could it? Remember when customizing your character in a game was free if the game had it?

Next, you think the act of Behaviour having to balance the game justifies insane in-game monetization. Balancing takes a few employee hours at best with most of the work coming from the community testing and vocalizing what's wrong then Behaviour putting in the shallowest piss puddle of effort to "balance" the game. That's why PTB exists. We test for them for free. As for dedicated servers: We have been paying for most DLCs since December 2016 and only in the last few months has Behaviour even put effort into dedicated servers. We all know that the reason for the insane amount of DLC, skins, microtransactions, and now the Rift is all for greed. Not growth. To say otherwise is pure, willing ignorance. If they wanted to use DLC and microtransactions to actually grow the game for players, we would have seen dedicated servers launched by the end of last year or at least during the second half of this year.

Now for your question about how people want the game to be monetized, let me just answer it for you real quick. We paid twenty ######### dollars for this game on PC; thirty on console. We are constantly having DLCs pushed on us. We are constantly having microtransactions pushed on us. We are now going to have a battle pass pushed on us and pressuring us to buy it each season and spend money to advance levels. Dead by Daylight, a game that you have to pay $20 for, is using three free-to-play methods of monetizing the game, despite being a game you have to purchase. Stop acting like this is okay. Just because we're "getting some content for free" doesn't make it okay. We paid $20. That content locked behind a paywall in the Rift should be ours. We paid money for this game up front and are constantly hitting paywalls to buy new DLC, not even mentioning skins. Stop enabling Behaviour to do this. Giving any developer a pass on putting free-to-play monetization into a paid game is actively hurting the video game industry. We should not have free-to-play monetization methods in a game you have to pay money for. If Dead by Daylight was free-to-play then it would be 100% fine, but guess what, it isn't. Imagine if instead of Behaviour putting most of the skins behind a paywall they just gave that ######### to us as rewards for playing their game. That's how it would have been done less than 10 years ago. Since you're an ancient gamer according to yourself you should remember this. Remember customizing characters in Tony Hawk? Remember how that just came with the game? We didn't have to pay ######### for that on top of already buying the game. Battleblock Theater. Payday 2. No Time To Explain. Quake Live. Borderlands 2. These games all gave you ways to customize your character without dropping $10 on a single skin. It was just there. You bought the game, launched it up, and were either immediately presented with it or unlocked it for free.

TL;DR: Enabling Behaviour's use of greedy monetization acts taken from free-to-play games used in a purchased retail game that costs money to play is ######### gamers over.

Holy crap. I don't know how I missed this post. It is very well written. I appreciate you taking the time to write this. It's definitely made me re-think how I view their approach.

    Now I am uncertain.

I like their adding challenges with the rift, so it's no longer just a daily ritual to work on. That aspect is cool.

However, as far as cosmetics and such, I dislike them having exclusivity, which they are no longer doing (allegedly?). (It sucks to see an older cosmetic you can't obtain and would like etc). And I also don't like that certain ones, you have to pay for and can't earn for free (grinding) even if it is a lot of grinding (like using the shards). I mean they are clearly copying other games approaches.... Like wth is a charm... seems a bit random..Anyways.. But again, they say that some items will still be exclusive, like charms? -- (Which I can understand exclusive for an event, if you have an event every year, get it next year etc.) And like last Halloween, I think the only way to get last years cosmetics is to pay, you can't earn it this year... I don't see why. (still hoping I am mistaken but I thought someone said you can't).

And we have some people wanting items and such to have an added advantage like stats or skills to it..... which I hope never happens.

I'm sort of concerned at what is going to be happening to the state of this game. I understood paying for the game, and even the DLC's. DLC's you could even earn for free, which was great (grind for shards). Except licensed, which made sense. I can even understand offering cosmetics for money NOW, and then making them able to be purchased for "earning" shards or such (grinding) later on.

The rift idea, does seem "better" than just putting cosmetics up in the shop for basically $10 a set... Because if they continue the approach with the rift its a one time payment ($10) for all cosmetics... unless of course they change this feature in the future. And only if you actually have enough time to complete the rift. (It's kinda like a rebate- bank on people not doing it). To make more money they bank on people not being able to finish. So, then you don't get the money back to buy the next etc. And would instead have to put money in. So, sure it's "better" in theory... but let's be real..

(Also for those that don't know DBD has racked in millions for them already... just throwing that out there.)

    Ugh. I'm so confused. sigh

    I sad now.

    THE CAKE IS A LIE!

  • Being given to and having to purchase is entirely different.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/751421#Comment_751421

actually that isn't the case . just because a term has been perverted by moder conventions doesn't mean that is its original or intended meaning . This hold true for a lot of terms and words throughout history . If you dont believe me look at a old kids cartoon called the flintstones , whats the last line of the song , "well have a gay old time" . Does that fit with todays meaning of a word and im sure you can easily figure out what one .

At some point free to play and free play got merged into something else , but free to play originaly meant as it says no cost to play , while free play means no cost play or everything free .

Free has never changed it's meaning. So, you can't really make that comparison.

    free

    adverb

    without cost or payment.

    "ladies were admitted free"

(Free always means free, and there's a huge list on free. "Free as in not confined or controlled" etc.)

    pay

    /pā/

    verb

past tense: paid; past participle: paid

give (someone) money that is due for work done, goods received, or a debt incurred.

"he paid the locals to pick his coffee beans"

give (a sum of money) in exchange for goods or work done or in discharge of a debt.

"he paid $1,000 to have it built in 1977"

Me spending $10 or $20 dollars out of my pocket, real physical actual cash on anything, is me purchasing that product. It is not free. I don't walk up to a sandwich shop asking, hey what free content you got? Unless they have free samples, they would tell me nothing and move along. Further, if I went and bought a sandwich and consumed that sandwich, I would say I paid for it, in exchange of currency. Now, do I make monthly installments on that sandwich? I would say no. If I continue to go to the sandwich shop, I suppose one could argue the I have a subscription there?

Now, If i spent money on a sandwich and walked out without a receipt and a cop stopped me and asked did you pay for that? I would NOT tell them, "No sir, I got it for 'Free'". If you pay for something, its paid for.

The assumption of gaming industry is you pay (This may vary with people). Unless it is stated that it is free, or it is stated it's subscription based. (3 options).

There are free games, there are paid games (Formerly pay to play?), there are subscription games (Aka a pay to play, or pay to keep playing would be clearer.... to each their own.). Perhaps, that alone caused confusion.

Free to play is used in contrast to the pay to play, in which obvious payment is required before using the service, this pay to play, sort of got construed, into subscription payment "model". So, games you pay for ONE time, are usually referred to as paid games, or even to some pay to play, or not even at all because it is assumed. (I.E. I paid for that game).

Free games, need to make money too, so they make certain content or things like cosmetics etc. in order to make a profit. Some employ "freemium" features, microtransactions. Service-base monetization is often the only way to keep those games alive. Usually, this won't employ a pay-to-win but some do. Pay-to-win is when a player can gain any advantage over non-paying players. Content in free games, is usually cosmetic, or adds no advantage etc. Some companies do not need to make a game have ANY paid content and it is purely just "free", I.E. no payment and have ALL the content.

There are different variations of payment games, but free will always be free.

I.E. If this game is free, than I would like my money back.

Also, there are some scammers and such that will say FREE but have hidden charges or fee's in whatever it is. I do not consider those free either. Just because they say it is, doesn't mean it is. That's why I consider it a scam. You are hiding and deceiving a person in order to make profit.

Note: This game is actually "free" on steam during some weekend special "Free" playtime. But usually no longer than a weekend. For those days it is free and playable to every one, but time limited.

Free will never change it's meaning with me.... Unless Webster tells me so o.o

  • @StupidPallets

    What is a PTB?

In general, it’s an abbreviation for Public Test Build, but it’s also known as Player Test Build, Player Test Beta or Public Test Beta.

Public Test Builds are a way for the developers of a game to test major upcoming changes prior to their release, identify bugs or exploits and receive community feedback, which helps them to adjust the new mechanics. Features and changes introduced in a PTB are always work in progress/subject to change.

Players have to join the PTB via the public beta branches through Steam in order to gain access to it. It’s optional and you’re free to join and/or quit the PTB at any given time. If the players decides to participate in the PTB, it creates a copy of the player’s main build save game, but any progress made by playing the PTB will not be saved afterwards.

This stuff can happen... and that's why they test it first. The takeaway is, it is not going to be put in the non-PTB game

    O_o

    o_O

  • @Ark_the_Bonsai yup. it's really nice and chill too. Should check it out sometime.

    sick huntress skillz yo.

    https://www.twitch.tv/peanits_bhvr

  • Yea... but also. Good advice is never trust that your teammate really checked. I know several times my teammates missed and completely bypassed hex totems. Like even if you just saw them come from there, it is a good idea to still check to "eliminate" it.

Check and see if the offering to spawn together got burned. Because that makes you all spawn together as well.

  • If there is a transaction of currency needed to own the game, it ain't a free game. But dead by daylight is not a subscription based game either.

They make revenue (for examples) Off the DLC's, cosmetics (people buying the auric cells, not using the shards aka free game currency) , and people purchasing the game. etc.

  • I see a lot of flaws with this. And maybe I am not fully understanding it.

You don't want to waste time early game looking for a good "hiding" spot. I would hate that. Like DudeDelicious mentioned.

Also, this creates a balance issue, if I am cleansing the hex and suddenly it disappears some where else on the map, maybe to another dull that I already checked out.. that doesn't seem very fair. Also, if the killer is seeing this and watching it, he could just change it then at his whim. Could be easily abused. Perhaps it can't be touched/changed while that happens.

This essentially brings out multiple "NOED's".... In the fact you don't know if the killer has it or not... and that's been a huge issue for many people. And it would "waste" time cleansing a dull yadda yadda. Survivors would complain non-stop if they had to check the SAME dull totems during the match to see if it was lit up or not, during gameplay... OR the ones that they did find and know the location of SUDDENLY moved to another location on the map...

If the killer has the totem on them, then that means they can always have noed and know theres a dull totem on the field (in their pocket). That seems way to powerful.

Honestly, with the new map especially, I feel like the dev's could find better hiding spots, seeing as they already mentioned they are overhauling some of the old maps.

This idea has been mentioned before. But this is the first time I have ever heard of a totem rush. lmao. But there is a perk that slows it down already and also alerts you that it is happening.

  • @NullSp3c Good question.

I have been wondering about shards and the store as well. Will all the cosmetics after a time be able to be purchased with shards, eventually? And will any current ones get cheaper? (Noticed some more expensive then others etc.) Like maybe it rotates in a way? Or is it permanently fixed prices?

  • @Yung_Slug Lulz

@TheHoodedOne ... I don't even know what to say.... lmao

Female gamers not on games? Wut?! You can't be serious!

Maybe your hood is too low o.- lol

  • I CAN NOT decide....... :(

Can you get cosmetics still for characters you don't own? I guess that might help me eliminate some lmao...

  • $_$ Yiiisss. Thank you!

I mean... what .. wait? I have no idea what you mean. Good day, sir! *walks off spilling money out of pockets*

  • Yea, was going to say it's a bug. Thankfully it is now official.

    It's a fun tech :)

I also literally just watched Peanits (not to long ago) pull it off so smoothly on twitch too. Had to re-watch it a few times. It was like art. :D

Hopefully I have enough time to get it from the rift before it closes. :D

  • that's the thing. not all protection hits count apparently. and that's why it's much harder than it should be.

Edit: And don't get me wrong it should be hard and take effort to activate, that is the balance part of it.

  • Best april fools... you want shirtless? Well... you got PANTLESS ggs boys!

  • Ok, this is awesome and this thread is going places. lol

  • @TunnelVision It's not live yet, it's only on the PTB right now. You can check out twitch streamers and such to be able to see it etc. (Or youtube probably as well).

  • Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! *looks around intently*

  • Editing this due to no longer have the same views.

I now think it's a slap in the face.

  • haha :D

Yea. anyways. Hopefully that just gets clarified and people just relax... it's day 1 of PTB... lol Let's let them talk to us about it... lol

Try to be optimistic, you all might really like the rift once you understand it. Who knows :)

  • @AkiTheKitten Agreed. Plus for free you can participate in the challenges getting the bloodpoints as well.

@UlvenDagoth I didn't fully hear about the charms and which ones if any were exclusive. It would make sense the level 70's or so ones were. Those did seem pretty "special". But idk. I didn't hear anything. I was just going by what I've heard from the dev's and I know they said event stuff... (which even that was confusing because before that stuff was put up in the shop too.) Hopefully that can get clarified tho.

  • @AkiTheKitten I heard it will be buyable at a much later date.

  • Editing Because yes it is.

It may not be pay 2 win, but it is definitely pay to keep PAYING.

    To answer the title. No.

And for people that think it's pay 2 win and whatever else. It isn't? It's temporarily exclusive as in you get it sooner, otherwise you can still buy and purchase it at a later date. The dev's told us this. What ISN'T is of course the event cosmetics. That will only be for the event I guess? Anyways. This ain't a normal battlepass.... AND they let you get your money back.... (auric cells money) like... I've never heard of that.

TLDR; you can buy the stuff at a later date (Edit: For REAL money, not earning for free ability).. so ... I don't see any problem. (Edit: except I do now).

EDIT: You can buy now for cheaper... or buy it later (most likely more expensive) Your call. Edit: Because This is just dumb

  • Edit: As this previous comment was completely ignorant.

You don't make your real life money back.

The challenges don't seem practical or obtainable by the majority. Therefore won't even make your auric cells back.

This is one method for F2P games to obtain money, when this game is a paid game... not F2P. Yet trying to use F2P tactics... Why?

Cosmetics in general are far too overpriced. And they stopped making it obtainable with shards.

They are also making it tremendously hard just to see the lore??? Their own lore...

Anyways. Nothing is 100% known yet. So, hopefully somethings aren't as bad as it seems. But it's still not good.. who knows.

  • Gosh dangit! WE'RE DOOMED! *panic running in circles*

  • I assume he means Martin Luther King.

I agree, people should be able to calmly and logically discuss things with other people who may or may not share their same views. I think people need to be more understanding that not everyone will agree with you, and respect that. Don't insult them for being stupid because they simply disagree... It's okay to have a different opinion. If you've discussed your side enough and they still disagree, than that's okay.

For people that say things like "get gud" and stuff, I think they are just trolling... which happens quite a bit... I recommend not getting upset, ignore them even if you want. And discuss whatever matter it is with people that are communicating civilly and respectfully. There's no sense getting into heated arguments with someone especially if they aren't respectful.

Let the mod's sort em out ;)

And don't feed the trolls o/

  • Honestly, legion is great for farming BloodPoints. I recommend not disconnecting. And play the actual game.

  • *rolls for a perception check*

  • ah, they also buffed survivor heals. Didn't realize that.
