I definitely like playing pyramid head but I always get people who would rather run in the open and die then get tormented it's annoying not being able to use 50% of your power
If they don't loop you and just w key then good luck trying to torment them lol. Only real consistent way is the "place it at the loop and then don't kill them too quickly" but you can always hope someone steps in it randomly.
Another fun thing you can do is to place torment outside of a locker if you suspect someone to be in there; if they are, they either come out and get tormented or they're useless to their team for a while

I feel his build repertoire has opened up significantly over the past year with valid options when it comes to perks, there's two builds i like to use with him.
I'm all Ears / Pop / Call of Brine / Floods of rage - Depending on scourge hook locations of course but people don't expect floods of rage in comparison to bbq. Pop and i'm all ears for obvious reasons, Call of brine is fantastic, tells you if someone is there and pretty good regression.
Agitation / Pain Resonance / Ruin or Plaything / Pentimento - Has worked pretty well for me, first two perks combo well and pretty much guarantee it unless you get screwed by scourge hook locations, With ruin or plaything they will put in work before they get broken, which you want anyway to take advantage of Pentimento. I would opt for plaything though, more chances of applying 1 stack of pentimento, plus oblivious. Ruin if you favour regression and prey it doesn't get broken before you get value from it.
The problem with those is that I just don't think he meshes with Scourge Hooks. The cages/Final Judgement take away so much value and either makes your torment weaker (already being difficult to apply + then you get 0 value from it) and opens you up for flashlight saves, or you miss up to a potential 8 different SH procs if everything goes right, the stars align, and you've been blessed by every luck deity known to mankind. Out of the perks that have released since this guide- so we're counting Nemesis to Sadako- only 2 have any real value imho: Call of Brine, and Deadlock.
I'm currently playing around with them- like trying out COB/PGTW/Corrupt/IAE or Corrupt/PGTW/Deadlock/IAE (gee you could never tell which perks I prefer could you)- or some other perks like Infectious, Monitor, etc (which is why I'm planning to make an updated guide, it's just taking me an eternity).
But honestly so far with my playtesting I stand by this guide; Corrupt/PGTW is the most consistent build core, even if not the best, and I don't think any Scourge Hook perk will change this because they give far less value, and are also much more inconsistent.

Many people seem to forget that locker spawns on most maps can be directly next to gens, forcing killers into a lose-lose situation if a survivor with an active DS hops into locker near a gen that is 99'ed.
"But now you can guard the gen and the survivor at the same time..."
First off, having the optimal play be standing in place for 60 seconds is un-interactive and stupid. Secondly, the moment the other survivors realise that the killer is waiting next to the gen they'll simply begin repairing the other gens.
If the killer leaves to stop them, the survivor with DS will exit the locker, wait until the killer commits to leaving, then begin repairs. If the killer stays, then up to 60 seconds of repairs can be made to all other gens.
DC staying active while inside a locker is completely broken. Because the survivor doesn't have to be tunnelled at all to get value out of the perk.
If we think of the edge case scenario of course we can make any argument sound logical. However in over 3 years since the initial DS rework (March 2019) I don't think I've ever been in, nor seen anyone else in, that situation. Or one at all similar to it.

Can you link me your ph tutorial thread that you once mentioned. I started playing him a little.
I'm working on a new one that I'm looking to have done mid-July at the latest (I have the longest exam season it's possible to have so my free time may be limited lmao). But most of these tips still apply and I haven't acruallt changed my build because no new perks except maybe Deadlock work on him.

So a few attentive people may recognise this from a comment I made yesterday (technically it was 24 minutes into today but let's not talk semantics). A couple of people suggested I make it a real post because "That's an excellent guide, very well put together." So, here I am. I've added a few more things so it's still worth a read.
This will cover what is, in my opinion, his best build and why, as well as a few tips on playing him & a few videos.
So hey, it's me- GoodBoyKaru, your friendly neighbourhood Pyramid Head main- here to give some swift Tips and Tricks(tm) to help make you a better Pyramid Head player!
For the record, this was made during DBD Patch 4.7.2
Build
PERKS
My personal favourite and imho strongest build is this:
- Corrupt Intervention
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/5A01IV8RME2M/image.png
Crucial early-game slowdown on a killer without mobility, allows him to stall the game massively because survivors know that if they get found they're doomed.
- Pop Goes The Weasel
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/FHA7ZFNAKVZY/image.png
It's the second best gen regression perk in the game, Ruin is too volatile to be anywhere near reliable on him because, again, no movement speed, he needs gen perks because he cannot move around the map quick enough, 11/10. "But you don't hook pe-" WRONG. You should be getting plenty of value out of PGTW and if you're overcaging then you're taking your map pressure and throwing it out the window.
- Barbeque and Chili
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/SC8THLXSY3RP/image.png
Now, you could obviously put other perks here like Infectious Fright (amazing snowball), Tinkerer (Undetectable is nice and it helps tell you where to go but again no movement speed) or Discordance (amazing info, can sometimes do nothing about it). However I say BBQ because I like the perk and also because bloodpoints.
- I'm All Ears
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/V90CSL0I44NO/image.png
Hands down the best perk in the game for Pyramid Head, that's six seconds of wallhacks. I cannot stress how valuable this is with his power- that is a guaranteed free hit in 9/10 situations. To show what I mean, I've linked a timestamped video below of where IAE comes in so clutch- continues to 5:16 in the video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJs4rvkppqs&t=296s
(you can watch the whole thing if you really want I'm proud of the game).
An honourable mention here goes to Ruin/Undying over Pop/Corrupt. As I've mentioned before, Tinkerer isn't a great perk on him due to his lack of speed, but the same goes for Ruin/Undying. You don't have the map mobility to defend your totems, especially if they spawn further away, and you'll probably end up losing two perks before 2 gens go. Corrupt/Pop is just more consistent in my experience.
ADD-ONS
So, his add-ons aren't great. The best ones, by far, are range add-ons which, when combined, extend his POTD by up to 2.5m (10.5m total). These are Burning Man Painting (Rare), Wax Doll (Uncommon), and Black Strap (Common), which ass +1.5m, +1m, and +0.5m respectively.
tips
Okay so rule number one is to not break pallets. Sounds weird but, just trust me.
His power is incredibly strong in a chase- so much so that if a survivor commits to an animation they die. If you don't break pallets (with some exceptions like God pallets) you can do amazing things. Because who doesn't want more opportunities to win a chase, like, instantly? It turns incredibly safe pallets into death sentences
To show what I mean, here's another timestamped clip. Ends at 10:58
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gu3X5o9GpjY&t=646s
Learn the range of the power. 8m is specific and sometimes you think you can hit things and you can't. You need to be very careful, especially when playing with range add-ons for so long, because it can and will screw with your perception.
Adapt to the survivors you're facing. A lot of players will fake taking an animation, go to the side slightly to bait your POTD or your cancel, and then commit to the animation. If you turn to the side and release, you'll catch a lot of these survivors out and get a hit. It's really satisfying to do. Alternatively some survivors will commit to the animations regardless, in which case you'll know to aim in the centre. Other survivors will just hold W and pre-drop pallets, in which case you know to leave them because you'll really struggle catching up, or do not use your power.
I cannot stress that enough. If a survivor is pre-dropping W key gaming, do not use your power. M1 killer them.
Don't overcage and don't stress about torment. If a survivor loops you, they'll get tormented. That's just kinda how it works- you stick your knife in, follow them around a loop, and release your POTD after tracking their movements.
To see what I mean we return to the first video, again timestamped. Clip ends at 1:36.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJs4rvkppqs&t=83s
See how I hug the car, turn the camera and use the power to hit him out of animation lock? Had he kept running, easy torment too.
In my opinion, only cage someone in one of four scenarios:
- You're afraid of a DS (just please don't tunnel I'm begging you)
- You're afraid of an Unbreakable (much more likely)
- You can immidiately get into another chase
- It would place you into a Pressure Point Of No Return (name pending).
What I mean by that last point is that there comes a time in a DBD game where the killer will hit a Pressure Point Of No Return, where the survivors physically cannot come back from the amount of pressure and momentum you're building. The best example of this as Pyramid Head is where you split the map through cages. You have two downed survivors. Cage one, hook the other. Nobody is on a generator, you have a BBQ proc to interrupt the person saving the cage or the hook, and now the last person must save both people. On especially large maps, like Mother's Dwelling, or multi-storied ones, like Midwich, this can force people into second stage and you've won the game at 5 gens. It's more common than you'd think.
If you cage at other times you're probably wasting pressure you could've gotten from a hook.
Learn where you can and can't lay trails. In front of totems and lockers? Amazing. In front of a gen? Not at all, it becomes a Restricted Trail Element and disappears after a few seconds. The DBD Wiki has a section on this which I'll just paste below.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/2808XTGCLSHV/image.png
I'd highly, highly suggest reading the wiki page on his power as it's really useful in understanding the fundamentals and giving actual values to words. Here it is:
https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Pyramid_Head
Finally, learn where you can and can't use POTD. It sounds like a simple thing but learning where you can and can't use it, however there's a lot to it. For example, learning how vertical changes affect it. Did you know if you release his power on a slope going up it'll fail, same with releasing it on a slope going down. However, if you're barely off of the slope it'll travel down it, but only if it isn't too steep.
It's nuts but knowing where you can and can't actually have an ability is, funnily enough, pretty important.
A few more quick-fire tips:
- Don't just go for animation lock shots. People expect these and adapt. Be unpredictable to catch them off guard and get easy hits. Like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U1k10I-zG4&feature=emb_logo
Bet they didn't expect that one :p
Needless to say that was where I hit a Pressure Point Of No Return and poor Jakey couldn't pick up the scraps.
- Don't spam his power. You waste too much time. Be precise, predict, and adapt to your opponents.
- Don't spam his trails. You move at 110% and you already lack a movement ability, you waste too much time.
- Tunneling isn't the best strategy. I know it seems like it because cages but again, you do not have a movement ability. Survivors can and will facefuck generators and ruin your day substantially.
- Dead Dawg Saloon and Hawkins are both maps you never press M2 on ever. Play like a default M1 killer because the map design prevents you from using your power. They're pretty much auto-loss maps, ngl, unless the survivors really badly mess up.
- Play survivor. Learn where survivors move and how they path, shoot POTD to hit them. That's what I did in that last clip.
And, yeah, that's about it. If people have any questions please let me know and I'll try to answer them as best I can, though I think this is comprehensive enough.
-
Shockingly, my biggest issue with these changes come from the basekit power and not the addons. I'd be fine with any of these (at least from the killer POV I'm too tired to consider survivor yet) but I really don't want the changes to the activation/deactivation to go through. All it would do is bring back the boring yawn zone and win gameplay and make it substantially easier to do.
Currently, bad Pyramid Head's can be read easily and punished severely for over committing to a zone. With that change, not so much. It'd incentivise W key even harder than it already does and make him boring to play.
Also, his power actually is consistent on slopes lol. They go down, they don't go up, they only go down if you launch it from flat ground, they don't follow a vertical drop. If those 4 rules are followed it's incredibly consistent.
-
Pyramid Head because of the power to ignore BT and DS, as well as the ability to double hit at the hook, closely followed by Bubba because of the power to completely deny any unhooks and then hit through BT easily.
Which is a shame, because it gives my little baby a bad rep </3
-
Honestly they need a whole kit rework and/or the solo queue overhaul to be remotely near healthy for the game but I doubt we'll get that. Like, I'm talking Freddy level, or at the absolute minimum Doctor level.

Think of why killers don't like swfs.

Just because you don't have more than 1 friend that plays this game doesn't mean everyone doesn't.

In that situation you are downed either way so it does not matter. If there was no locker you going down, you jump in locker, you getting grabbed.
"As survivors say about killer stuff, this is clearly an exploit. Not intended ;)"
Actually it's entirely intended. On the developer stream where the DS changes were revealed, locker DS was talked about briefly, and the devs said that they felt no need to remove jumping into a locker to force DS after the nerfs they'd already given the perk, but if it remained problematic they would reconsider this stance. It has not continued to be problematic, and so this stance has not needed to be changed.
-
No. You're choosing to tunnel someone, you wait it out or you eat it or you stop tunneling. It does what the perk is designed for.

It's an incredibly close adaptations, with the things that were changed being done so to add to the story and not take away from it (and had Alice on working incredibly closely with the production). Also, it's very LGBTQ+ friendly (hence why it's my new go to form of representation) - the main 2 characters are gay, 2 of their friend group are lesbians, another is trans (and the casting reflects this; a trans woman plays Elle, the trans girl, for example).
It's just beautiful. Glorious. A literal 4 hour serotonin farm.

Isn't NetEase Chinese?
This is correct, and yet has nothing to do with my statement. Netease are known for very grind heavy, p2w, ""free"" to play mobile games.
-
The mobile Version has also been shelved to work on the Japanese Netease version, which comes with the associated risks of a free to play game with Netease involved. I'd rather keep the semi frequent content than have whatever they had for their Anniversary event this year and no new content in the store for the first time since it's launch.

I thought there had been an update of the Unreal Engine for DbD in the past. But apparently it’s been on Unreal Engine 4 since release. I am obviously misremembering something. Doesn’t matter.
They've updated the engine between different versions of Unreal 4 (ie. UE 4.2 to UE 4.3), and in the next patch are even making another such engine update. Updating from UE 4 to UE 5 would be the first real "upgrade" though.

Grades should not exist in the ecosystem of newly invented SBMM. There should be shown MMR instead of that which will not give wrong feeling about how you, bronze, face red ranks. SBMM is a self made problem that introduced grades problem, which was "fixed" by removing the entire system out of the game. Like whats the point of grades? Its atavism. Old system was functional, there was no need to invent this matchmaking.
But MMR is elitism! You can't see your numbers because it will make you feel good about yourself!
I'm not advocating for or against showing MMR. I know for a fact I'd like to see it but idrc either way. I'm simply saying why grades were hidden.
-
There is nothing scarier than turning a corner only to get pallet stunned by a survivor you had no idea was there.
-
I mean yeah. Because every single time the crying would go something like this:
"Why am I, as a bronze player, going against red ranks?"
"Grades have no correlation to matchmaking they just indicate monthly playtime."
"That's great but why am I going against red ranks????"
"They literally have no relevance to matchmaking."
"Okay, but why am I, as a bronze player, still being paired with red ranks?!"
It was a wonderful cyclical argument of people wanting any excuse to blame something for a bad match that isn't just a terribly designed system and they would not listen so the grades were removed. Magical.

For killer: Furtive Chase, Monstrous Shrine, Predator, and Unrelenting.
For survivor: Buckle Up, Up The Ante, Corrective Action, and This Is Not Happening.
No I just don't know how to spell it and considering I've had a very long day and am just trying to wait for tiredness to reach the point I can't hold out anymore I couldn't be asked to Google it lmfao
Tho if you did equip the fear of chlorine then it would be quite useless in dbd lol

Then remove the slow down while survivors are dying or hooked
No. This would allow it to be used to ensure extra kills, which is not part of its job.
Edit: this may be a better way of putting it. Think of the EGC as a worker on minimum wage on a zero hours contract. It is there when it is absolutely necessary and goes away the second it isn't. It does what it is paid to do- end the game within a maximum of 4 minutes- and is not paid enough to go above and beyond this job description. EGC does the bare minimum that it must do to retain it's job, and in the context of DBD, is more than sufficient.

It doesn't do its job if cheaters can still take the game hostage
Allow me to rephrase then.
The End Game Collapse exists as a mechanism to bring the trial to a guaranteed end in a guaranteed maximum period of time under normal gameplay conditions, not to give kills. It adjusts so that it is fit for purpose and exclusively for this purpose, nothing more and nothing less.
-
Overwhelming Presence/Furtive Chase/Cholorophobia/Stridor (vs 4x iron will)
-
The End Game Countdown recognizes and adjusts for the survivor's benefit, slowing by half if a survivor is dying or hooked, but why doesn't it adjust for the killer?

Let's just imagine if dbd's "supernatural killers" existed in real life then how laughable they would be lol. They can be blinded by flashlights and crackers, stunned by a wooden pallet and a bloody locker (as you hear them moan painfully) 🤣 You can body block these killers (including the Nemesis) and prevent them from moving. You can heal your friend right in front of the killer's face and the killer can't pick them up lol (heal tech). This game really has the concept of "supernatural killers" all wrong lol. If supernatural killers did exist in real life, i would want them do be exactly like dbd's.
And yet they would continue to come after you. No matter how many times they're blinded, how many (heavy, trust me I've had to break those things with my feet, they are study and pretty damn heavy) pallets are dropped onto their face, how many times they're hit by doors or even a car, they will stay on your trail. They can fall from a 3 story fall without even a stagger, whereas you'd have to perform a pretty decent roll onto a semi soft surface to avoid breaking your legs.
Your only option is to hide. To give up your distance and to pray they can't find you.
They're supernatural in their abilities, yes, but just because their strength isn't through the roof doesn't mean their persistence isn't. With enough people, or enough ideas, most of the typical supernatural killers can be stopped. Not any of the DBD cast though, because they're backed by a haunting eldritch force. I'd much rather face a supernatural being that can be destroyed than something which will stay on my trail for the rest of eternity, no matter how much I throw it's way.
Which is why survivors can never kill a killer. They can escape the trial, but they will always be put back into the same hunting ground. They will always be followed for the remainder of their eternal torment, and there is nothing they can do except to keep running away.

Call me an idealist but I would love for the appreciation of Stranger Things by (hopefully) a majority of DBD players to supersede the monetary concerns. Besides, if they are advertising their fourth season why not promote it further with a collaboration? I feel like that could solve problems on both sides.
In terms of companies, absolutely an idealist. Both parties have to be willing to negotiate terms, go over contracts with lawyers and pay their legal fees, then one party needs to pay the other a flat fee for the IP + royalties for every sale (in this case BHVR paying Netflix). If Netflix or BHVR both aren't willing to negotiate, or if they can't agree on a contract, or if Netflix is charging too much money and BHVR simply cannot afford their rates anymore, then it's highly unlikely.
Most Netflix collaborations are limited time, like Stranger Things in Smite or Fortnite. It's highly likely Netflix wanted to up the price or just pull it no matter what, which very likely soured feelings between the companies (Côté is the one that does the talking to other companies for DBD iirc) and makes a further negotiation even more unlikely.
Everyone has a price, it's true, but not everyone can afford this price. And moral values mean nothing when you're a company that has to please the shareholders.
