    hold w

Oh, and if you get one tape, you can go around turning off as many TVs as you like to build up condemned, then deposit your tape to reduce it. Creating a deadzone where she can't teleport in chase or even get over is entirely possible (and thus her reliance on the iri tape offering)

Iri Tape doesn't even fix that issue though. It turns on the last 4 TVs that were teleported to- any turned off by survivors don't (or shouldn't, anyway) turn back on.

    don't forget trapper!

considering how most trapper games go it is very easy to do so

Yeah but Knight and Twins are bugged to have LITERALLY no power while Trapper has a power, it's just horseshit.

Given what happened last time perks git base kit I'd imagine killers get 2% more FOV while survivors get basekit Dead hard

It's only on the DBD Forums that people can turn a basic accessiblity request into an US VS THEM comment.

It's quite impressive how you guys manage it every single time.

  • Yeah it's definitely not a you thing. Slinger was massively overnerfed the last time he got changes and hasn't been looked at since, unfortunately.

  • Right so. I currently main Slaydako and Pyramid Head 50/50 and they're my 2 go-to killers. Plus you know me, so you know I'm trustworthy.

My build for some optimal Slaydako Yassamura gameplay is:

    -Call of Brine

    -Eruption

    -Enduring

    -Sloppy Butcher

For addons you want to use Well Stone and Cabin Sign.

Basically you teleport around the map, be a minor nuisance, and then all at once suddenly Eruption snowball into a complete curbstomp. The addons are there to make TVs return faster but not Iri Tape levels of fast because that addon makes me sad(ako).

Sloppy is incredibly good because of the healing meta and while you're teleporting around, being a nuisance, and generally stalling the game with Condemned you'll be getting lots of 1st hits (and not many 2nd hits), so slowing down healing adds up (all the while you build up the Eruption snowball). Plus it's always nice to interrupt a Sloppy heal.

Enduring is a must have, because I like to play loops as an M1 killer in a way that means I eat a lot of pallets. I can't play her without it tbh because being stunned so much hurts.

And then Call of Eruption is just good. COB is like the best regression perk in the game right now and Eruption is just busted so they go happily hand in hand skipping down the road.

From what i remember, you were a true highlight of these forums and hope you still are.

As for me showing up whenever BHVR does a thing...Well that's not true, i check here randomly from time to time.

What IS true is that so far my hopes of having a joyous return to the game have not raised at all.

Especially now that Boons are more and more a thing and Devour Hope won't keep up.

Well, I haven't been banned yet so I can't be doing too badly

Even if you wait to stack more money, you can't fund expansion with a static pile of cash. You still need to increase revenue and bring in new money to pay your additional employees, utility costs, property leases, etc. No matter which way you slice it, company growth = additional expenses = need for greater revenue.

And you know how to generate that additional revenue?

Launching a new IP, which was in development long before FOMO and so can't be the reason for this change (Meet Your Maker), or improving the popularity of an existing product (such as Dead By Daylight), by actively listening to the community or collaborating with another popular IP (I imagine Dead By Daylight: Resident Evil: The Winters Saga, or Dead By Daylight: Resident Evil: Los Illuminados would sell particularly well around this time considering Shadows of Rose came out like a month and a half ago and RE4make is coming out very soon).

Alternatively, just engage in some scummy business practices to make a quick buck while hyperfixating on exploiting the most vulnerable part of your playerbase.

    Both can work.

Acquiring a studio, building a studio, and increasing your workforce involved taking on increased expenses to maintain that growth, especially when it comes to payroll. How do you think they're gonna pay for all that?

I'm sure there are plenty of people working at BHVR who could've looked at the costs and gone "Hm maybe this is too expensive and we should tone it back and go for a more long-term development plan" instead of doing it all in a single year and needing to resort to FOMO to keep the funding going.

When you look at something and see that it isn't feasible based on current data, you usually increase your resources (revenue) before deciding to reinvest the profits and become more dynamically efficient and not afterwards.

You do realize that this game is not just about purchasing cosmetics, right?

I would agree with you if it were otherwise (and there were only auric cell purchases), but this is an online continuously maintained asymmetrical game of tag with objectives.

Costs need to be met, and content that brings people into, and back into, the game is a priority to keep the game healthy.

Part of doing the above successfully is by utilizing vices to bring people in.

Part of doing it while not insulting your consumer base is also by doing the above with transparency and understanding.

Then of course there’s morality to consider, target audience, and optics.

As someone with disposable income, who values my time, and understands that there are those who have more time than money, I’m fine with this shift in seasonal cosmetic offerings so long as previous years cosmetics are released with an associated shard price during their seasonal release.

If BHVR are able to make an estimated CA$300 million, open a new studio in Toronto, increase employees by roughly 30% and acquire Seattle based game development Studio Midwinter Entertainment then I don't think they're that strapped for cash that they need to turn to FOMO.

  • Same. I wish that the post unhook Endurance also made the survivor lose collision, because when I'm doing my best to not tunnel you it pisses me off to hell and back (and you best believe they'll complain in endgame that you tunneled them lmao)

Yes, something I figured out in the first 10 topics posted about this subject.

Maybe that should tell you something about the volume of people that dislike it... come on you're so close to an epiphany here

  • Not an exploit no, but I'll give an explanation. Please forgive the artistic liberty taken, I cannot draw to save my life.

Basically, Survivor hitboxes are little capsules that do not change regardless of what a survivor is doing, except from in height when crouching or on a generator (and even then that never used to happen, meaning Huntress got some very easy shots).

Therefore, when a Survivor is standing upright, it looks like this:

    image.png

But when they're running, the hitbox doesn't change, so it looks a lot like this (which leads to really weird looking hits, especially against ranged killers):

    image.png

So therefore, when they're healing someone, it looks like this:

    image.png

As you can see, the hitbox doesn't change even though the model is clearly not within it.

My advice is to aim for their ass. That never leaves the capsule, so aiming roughly there should get you right in the capsule, instead of trying to aim for their body that definitely isn't within the hitbox.

Unreleated ? You would be surprised how many times after a toxic match I would still play nice only to see another group of toxic survivors and regret going easy just to be nice. Once it becomes too repetitive .. the killers will return the favor. Tunneling , camping and slugging are on the table when a line is crossed.

and then the survivors who have never done anything to you take this and use it as an excuse to be toxic to the next killer they face, who is then toxic to the next group of survivors, and thus the cycle of eternal toxicity is perpetuated.

unless those survivors were literally in the dm's of the others going "go on, tbag, do it, i know you want to" they were unrelated. quit the "nobody is innocent" bullshit, please. you dont have to justify your actions to anyone but yourself, and honestly youd sound better if you did

  • Die Schneemänner are always watching, waiting for their chance to strike the Realms when the barrier is weakest to snuff out the 2 remaining Twins mains

  • @FreddyVoorhees said:

If you encounter t-baggers at the game just go into the next match and slug everyone until they bleed out. If you hook someone make sure to hit them at least 10 times and nod your head. If survivors wants taunts , give them as much as you like.

I played nice won and gave hatch to 6 games in a row. In the 7th everybody escaped because I tried a joke build. They t-bagged and insulted in the chat how useless I was. Nobody is innocent. Slug and tunnel until you win and make the Entity proud.

Nah. I prefer this system more. Before this announcement, most new store cosmetics were auric cells only and rarely iri shards. I rather wait 4 weeks now for store cosmetics so i can get them for free. Exceptions are licensed and now holiday cosmetics which is fair. They gotta compensate somewhere for making more things more free

What 4 weeks? Asides from Hooked on You and possibly Oni's Blighted skin, the only original cosmetics we've had since that announcement have been exempt from the 4 week timer.

You shouldn’t have to run a perk to counter a base kit.

Similar to Survivors stating you shouldn’t have to run Iron Will against Spirit complaint back in the day. Same thing

  • Cool you can also get it delivered next day, just will cost you extra.

But again, it's there and it's available, and even if it wasn't the comparison still wouldn't work because real goods and services have an opportunity cost of production that digital goods lack.

I was more so referring to flat out saying that the devs were aware that the playerbase would be unhappy with these changes IE time limited cosmetics and such.

Oh in which case let's hope that the devs knew that and the higher ups demanded it anyway, like what happens with regular skin distribution.

  • @Laluzi said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3285951#Comment_3285951

Yeah, funny how they made that announcement, rolled it out at a glacial crawl (so far it's only 4 survivors and 5 killers over, what, 4 months?), and proceeded to release all their new outfits with a loophole that says they never have to be available for shards. And now they're taking hot sellers out of the store and into their cycling rotation before they'd ever have to make them available with shards. Notice Feng and Felix in there? The onesies? Yeah.

I would have much rather had the old shop than the one we're moving towards. Like it's not even a question. It's not like we're headed towards the promised era where we can buy everything with shards, so why not have universal availablity?

actually, it's up to 6 survivors now (everyone up to David King, not including bill because he was always for shards)

    image.png

And 7 killers (up to Doctor)

    image.png

They just haven't been announcing it

  • @kingcarl2012 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3285354#Comment_3285354

In that case you can use your money on something else or save it and buy it when its available.

It's like when McDonalds removed the McRib, and everyone was going to boycott them, and then no one did, and then any time the McRib is available people go nuts for it.

If the McRib is too old of a reference feel free to substitute whatever limited time fast food option you want, the KFC doubledown, the Wendy's bacon mushroom melt, or heck look at egg nog, i can never find egg nog in july we should all boycott all grocery stores until they offer egg nog in july, who's wth me?

i can find it online for £1.59 with just about £4 postage + packaging.

that argument fails to work when comparing real goods to digital goods, because real goods have an opportunity cost of production while digital goods have no limit to supply.

So you know the players dont like either of these but chose to do them anyways? Why would you even admit to that that's kinda bad on your guys end

tbh im glad they are. it couldve been a higher up decision, for all we know (hence why every complaint ive made has been at BHVR and not individual devs or other memebers of the team) and that mandy was able to communicate before the 4 weeks were over that they wouldn't be made available for shards is nice.

because can you imagine the backlash if that was revealed on december 29th or, god forbid, after it.

Yes. I think the majority of you sound like whiny, entitled children.

The fact you’re making limited time cosmetics, a “mental health issue”’ being capitalized on, is an insult to people with legitimate mental health issues. If my biggest worry in life was FOMO over DBD LT cosmetics, that’d be a cake walk.

But it wouldn't be your biggest worry in life- it would be yet another problem to add to the ever-growing list of problems that companies are now targeting you, and others in similar situations to you, because they know you're easier to manipulate into giving them money. The knowledge that that's happening alone can be awful, let alone having it happen to you.

You don't need to be unaware of these schemes to fall victim, either, which is the worst part. You can be fully aware of what's happening, why it's happening, and yet it will still happen and then you'd regret it instantly afterwards.

You say entitled, I say vulnerable. Clearly we come from 2 very different walks of life.

  • @MeanieDeeny said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3285907#Comment_3285907

You understand there’s a rare exception, right? This example is a big reach on your part

Every rule has an exception, correct.

That kid is the exception- someone with poor impulse control being effectively monitored online by parents that are trying their best to understand and work with him, not against him. For every one person like that, there are countless others who have poor impulse control for one reason or another that don't have people to stop them, and therefore fall victim to FOMO tactics employed by companies everywhere.

The reason FOMO works in marketing is because of the most vulnerable. Companies are able to see these people, who are the easiest to part with their money, and it capitalises on that, ensuring that their products are mostly tailored to them (and any additional sales from other consumers is a bonus, too). That's why almost every original outfit since the announcement that original outfits will be available for shards a month after their release has been time-limited- they know the older cosmetics will sell far less and so can take this hit while hyperfixating on marketing to the people that will spend the most.

From a general microeconomic perspective, the move makes no sense (hence why yesterday I kept going on about it making no sense to do this), but understanding this move from the point of view of a business it makes complete sense to do this.

  • @MeanieDeeny said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3285895#Comment_3285895

Because I think it’s silly people are crying about FOMO? That’s not a mental health issue, it’s entitlement.

I've done karate since I was, like, 7. My karate instructor, in the time that I've known him, has gotten married and had kids, two of whom have pretty severe autism, and a trait they both share are that they have very, very poor impulse control (one kid once swore in front of his entire class because he just couldn't contain his excitement and the first impulse was to scream ######### YES at the top of his lungs, absolutely pissing myself when I heard this story). One of them is now in their teens, has a part time job while going through secondary school, and is about to start college next year (couldn't be prouder of him). He's at the stage in his life where he's responsible for most of his own money (parents keep half just to make sure that he doesn't spend everything he has, which is reasonable), and I've been told that he's not allowed anywhere near gatcha games, fortnite, or any other game that capitalises on FOMO because of that poor impulse control, that they've been working on for over a decade with him on literally since he was born. That poor impulse control that he's doing his best with but just can't get on top of.

Is he weak minded, would you say, because of this? If his parents weren't as good at monitoring what he does online, and he'd fallen into issues because of FOMO tactics, would you still call him entitled, or even his parents, for thinking that these marketing tactics are absolute scum?

Just so I know where you stand on this issue, truly. Because he's an incredibly strong person, to have battled through what life dealt him and be sitting higher tier papers when even getting into class is an effort for him each day.

That's not him being weak minded, that's him being vulnerable, and that's why this tactic is so predatory. Because it literally preys upon people like him who haven't had parents like he's got. And if you'd still call him weak, then I dread the day one of your kids comes to you with a mental health issue.

I can understand why there is an uproar of this cause these kind of FOMO (fear of missing out) tactics do negatively impact people with poor money management skills

I do find their anger to be misdirected

They shouldn't be angry at bhvr for doing this. Without the exclusiveness the skins might not be lucrative enough and that would mean they just wouldn't make those skins at all

If bhvr can't pay the bills with skins anymore then they would have to increase the price of the base game/dlc

I'm 100% sure most people who are against the exclusive skins would be in massive uproar if that happened

Their anger should be directed at whatever social support their country has cause they should be giving classes to people who really suffer from poor money management

You don't cover every lake or body of water out of fear people can drown you learn them how to swim

Idk if they can afford to open an entire other studio in Toronto, can purchase Seattle-based development studio Midwinter Entertainment, and are estimated to have made over 300 million CAD in revenue this year, they could probably not implement practices to extort the most vulnerable out of their money even if it means opening a slightly smaller new studio.

Just food for thought. I don't think they're struggling for cash.

(If we ignore the current bug that spawns way too many pallets) And I don't even like the map in particular it is just not terrible to play on and that's enough for me to call it their best map in a long time XD

No I am not banned just locked out on the monthly games I have added over the years.

They have all moved up to another tier and this is not fair having to fork out more cash.

That's an issue to take up with Sony, not BHVR.

It's really surprising to see how you guys think about this.

For me it was always how that's worked so I didn't understand the fuzz but that's just my perception.

Sure it's bad for people with bad impulse control I know that my adhd literally kills my impulse control sometimes gues I'm lucky games don't affect me that much.

It's definitely a move to get more people to buy and I don't know how to feel about that since on one hand it's scummy but on the other hand a company needs to make money and technically you you could get everything here for free after buying the game except the license stuff if you wait long enough.

I think it's a difficult matter cause none of use really know what it takes to keep such a company running but now I can definitely see why people are upset especially since they also do this to the old cosmetics

Some things you couldn't. Some outfits were always limited to auric cells, which I was completely fine with. Then they announced that all original cosmetics would release auric cell only and become available with shards after 4 weeks which, great. Cool. Love that.

Didn't realise it would lead to time gated cosmetic sets, all of which are now also exempt from that 4 week rule.

    Cool. Great. Love that.

Companies need to make money, and BHVR certainly seem to be able to do so without extorting the most vulnerable of the playerbase seeing as the company made CA$225 million in revenue during 2021- according to Grojo.com, it's estimated to be closer to CA$307 million for 2022 (I cannot comment on profits, because I don't know their costs, but if it was large enough to open another office in Toronto then they could've probably survived without pulling this).

Not to play devil's advocate, but doesn't the hide scratch marks/pools of blood effet still take place if you're hit through endurance ?

Granted, it's not that big of a help against a determined killer, but it's at least small value I guess.

If that part of the perk were so impactful then it would have seen much more use pre-buff than it ever did.

  • @Lycidas said:

"I've been seeing a surprising number of posts defending this kind of practice, while not really grasping what is actually happening with it. FOMO causes an irrational shift in prioritization by directly manipulating the availability of a purchase. This shift is something that your average person is able to maintain a rational perspective regarding, such as "i don't need it that much" or "I can wait for another chance later." The people it is designed to affect, are those with any form of impaired impulse control, or poor budgeting skills. There have been notorious GDC lectures outlining very specifically how to take advantage of these people and try to get as much money as possible out of them, with FOMO being one of the key methods. It is a known business practice that very specifically targets a vulnerable demographic.

Lets say you are faced with this situation, and have other more important obligations and are unable to make the purchase. A typical mind will think "oh well" and go without, but an affected person will start trying to readjust their budget to make it work, they may borrow money or even forgo financial obligations altogether as the need to commit to the purchase or lose out on it entirely outweighs their otherwise rational budgeting and prioritization. Its actually part of gambling addictions as well, as "the next bet can be the win that offsets all my losses" even after going into debt. It is a very real and well documented psychological effect.

The worst part is that, again, it has very minimal impact on most people. For many its not about losing the ability to purchase something like an ingame cosmetic, and they may not even see that as financially reasonable as it is. The problem is that it so very specifically preys on those who are vulnerable to the tactic, who are treated as whales (individuals who spend more than the average consumer, to make up for a lack of sales elsewhere) in the process.

Its an absolute shame how much this kind of practice is not only accepted, but even defended in the industry. There can literally be people bypassing anything from holiday gifts for loved ones to financial responsibilities such as paying their bills just to sell a few more ugly sweater model meshes and textures."

People are being mad about manipulative tactics being used to increase sales, because surprise surprise, people don't like when you take away from them the ability to choose what to buy whenever they want.

Combine this with the fact that December and January are notoriously the times that people struggle the absolute most with money and it's completely predatory on those with poor impulse control whilst also being exclusionary to those on tight budgets who can't just yet afford the new skin for real money (but have been saving shards, which doesn't matter now) and so will miss out for a year because we're in a cost of living, and general economic, crisis.

All the while this move makes absolutely zero microeconomic sense, because so far I've only ever seen one person explicitly say they like time gated cosmetics. Most are either "I don't care" or "This is disgusting" but not many have gone "YES! THIS IS BRILLIANT!"

There's nothing like punishing the poorest of your playerbase just for being poor, huh?

The more you complain about them costing money, the more you convince BHVR that they should be charging money for them!

Just don't buy them. I'm not.

Oh because we totally don't get 100 topics a day about camping/tunneling/slugging/quad stacking toolboxes/quad stacking regression/swf and haven't done for the past 4 years since these Forums were revamped back in June 2018?

Nobody cries when other live service games do seasonal skins but when DBD does it it's "scummy" lol. Don't get me wrong I'd prefer it if they didn't do this but let's not pretend anything out of the ordinary for the industry at large is happening.

In my opinion, this speaks more to the fact that consumers are conditioned to horrific, anti-consumer practices aimed to scam you out of everything within your wallet, and all the free time you have, rather than the fact that BHVR joining the industry standard is a good thing, actually.

I appreciate the comments, but this is not helping me :D

Y’all want literally everything they post that is not a shitpost covered?

I have Twitter, and because of the Forums account I get basically all the DBD Twitter posts covered (unfortunately). Just anything you deem to be newsworthy I'd say to post.

I accept bHVR can make it the way they want to and the way that generates most sales. That does not make it scummy.

The Ulitimate edition is 70 euro, you can save money.

Okay then- the Ultimate Edition of the game costs £56.52, and only includes original chapters up to All-Kill, meaning there are still at least 15 content DLCs to purchase, the majority of which are not available for currency obtainable through in-game playtime.

And they're still using practices as if the game were F2P.

BHVR aren't gonna give you free things my guy, you don't have to dickride this hard for a company that doesn't care about you beyond your wallet.

  • Anything is better than that time they posted about Dwelf microwaving fish.

Just want to make sure, his story does not dominate the narrative in your decision making on this, Im perfectly fine with seasonal cosmetics and some things being auric cells only.

I'd be more than okay with things having remained how they were- most cosmetics being Auric Cell exclusive- if it meant that time-gated cosmetics were never in the picture.

This game costs £25, with over £300 worth of paid-for DLC, and yet everything else about it is like it's completely F2P.

Just as a side note, I haven't seen a single TP Mummy Dwight since Halloween, during which he was semi common.

For all the fuzz, not a lot of people seem to be in the mood for seasonal cosmetics outside of the season. Interesting :>

And yet I've seen plenty of people using Spring, Blighted, and Christmas cosmetics which were not time limited outside of the respective seasons.

Just not with Mummy Dwight. But then again, I only saw about 2 people with that skin anyway.

Well so things are divided and people can look forward to something. perhaps you prefer Christmas 365 days a year?

I prefer being able to acquire digital goods with no limits on supply and therefore no reason to not have constant access to them whenever I want to access them, yes.

And why is that a benefit? Because people won't be using these cosmetics exclusively during the winter seasons, and people will still have access to the older seasonal cosmetics, so why is it suddenly a benefit?

    Actually, I stand corrected.

They're now taking away older outfits which previously weren't even time limited. Image source.
