There are already good examples of adaptive AI in other games: Left 4 Dead 2’s Director adjusts spawns based on player performance, Alien: Isolation’s Xenomorph reacts to your patterns, and Resident Evil 3’s Nemesis tracks player behavior to adjust pursuit. The DBD AI Killer could work similarly—observing survivor actions and adapting strategy/perks—without needing full machine learning.
L4D is not what you're looking for here. How it works isn't particularly applicable to DbD, since the latter relies on a map that once generated, doesn't change. L4D can manage enemy spawns, item drops, even break open the map to create shortcuts, on the fly. None of that works in DbD. There's only 1 enemy (maybe 2), items drop only from chests, and dynamic shortcuts make no sense in DbD. There'd need to be far more variables in the killer's abilities for a L4D-style director to work.
With RE3 I have to assume you mean the original, 'cause in the remake all Nemesis appearances were scripted. And in the original, as far as I can tell, it was just random when he could show up. But I didn't play it so I wouldnt know for sure.
Alien Isolation is probs the best example, but probably rather difficult to implement in a setting like DbD. Alien Isolation is a much, much slower game than DbD. And if you're found, you're immediately dead. If you want to emulate that game's systems, you need to overhaul DbD's main gameplay loop quite significantly.
Also, why does it have to be an AI to begin with? Why can't it be a player?

I'm having trouble envisioning this. And I suspect this was written by an LLM.
Would you have an example of how this is pulled off in another game?

Speaking of facts, how about a bird fact?
Did you know that the white stork
is for all intents and purposes a bird of prey? They're strictly carnivores, and other than fish, they also eat small reptiles, mammals, and other birds.

Honestly, I was trying to remember all the names from the past that deserve to be on there more. There were a lot of users who used to give very insightful and well constructed analysis of things better than my rants, but they've been gone for years for one reason or another. I'm just an old head who barely plays anymore at this point, and I'm probably best known for my posts being too long to read comfortably on a phone 🤷♂️
Appreciate it regardless.

I mean yeah if the mobility doesn't have lethality then it's basically useless. That's why Blight is so good. I will never stop training and playing as Blight because we all know these survivors only want easy games and overly nerfed new killers. Vecna will get nerfed by all the cry babies.
Isn’t that a contradiction?
If the “crybabies” get all killers nerfed, then how come Blight is still like that?

It's funny how trusting this community is to BHVR. I mean, why are you so assured this whole vote is even real? There is no way to confirm it, as it's done through their own closed system. Hypothetically, nothing stops them from just making any result they want at any moment, and saying "the community has voted".
I mean, you could also turn this around and ask how distrusting you’d have to be to assume this is all fake.
Like, I get why people don’t have faith in BHVR right now, but it’s just as big of a leap to assume it’s fake.
If you’re looking for signs of a conspiracy, you’re sure to find them.

We already have a big variety of Survivor characters in the game. But people dont play them, because they dont like them. I mean, just look at Haddie for example - there was even some weird movement to give her Skins and then she got 3 or 4 Skins in a row. And guess what? Nobody plays Haddie because she does not look good and people would prefer playing a good-looking character.
Meanwhile almost every game has a Sable, since she is a very attractive Survivor.
For BHVR it is just better to create attractive Survivors since those sell better and especially sell more Skins. Sure, this also means they get more Skins, but for BHVR it is better to create a Skin for all those Sable-Mains compared to the 3 Haddie-Mains around. And as long as Survivors are not different from each other (and they should never be more than Skins), then it is better for BHVR to create a good-looking Skin compared to a bad-looking Skin. Even if the old lady or the dude with the beard looked really unique.
Not every character has to be for everyone. That's fine, I think. Haddie still has her players, and so will whoever ends up winning the grimoire vote. 'Sides, the vast majority of players has 'settled' on a particular survivor anyway.
Though, if nothing else, people get to grow some attachment to the character before the chapter release. Maybe that'll help.

Players (men and women) generally prefer playing as/looking at attractive characters. This is basic biology not some perversion.
Sure, but you got plenty of (conventionally) attractive characters already.
Other players just want a bit more variety.

Does this mean you want to see the bird that visits my yard everyday?
Yes, please!
-
It’s really quite simple, I just pull out some cool/funny/pretty bird pics from all over the internet, to make people enthusiastic about the birds around them.
And then I get bird pics in return (no ai allowed). And I then get to ID those birds (also no ai allowed).
And even if one step fails, I still win ‘cause there’s still a bird on my screen.

These days it's usually to spread the word of the bird.

Which again, proves my point that with a good team, tunneling isn't a problem. Don't blame the killer, play the teammates jerking it to new sable skins. And for the equivalence, nobody is shaming survivors for completing gens in 5 minutes: it is praised by all, whereas the killer ending the game in 5 minutes is "no fun no skill #########"….
Finally to the sabos, killers are also being insulted for slugging, read my post…
The thing with quick gens is that it's more often than not the result of the survivors having nothing else to do. One could even say that quick gens is the fault of the killer, and that seems more reasonable of a take than 'blame tunnelling on survivors'.
As for 'real' genrushing, I assure you some people do blame survivors for trying to get the gens done as quickly as humanly possible. Especially when it's against a killer without mobility.
Regarding slugging, what killers get flak for is unnecessary slugging, ie., intentionally going for bleedouts. I don't think any reasonable player is going to call you a slur for leaving them on the ground for 20 seconds.
Also, what is a 'good team' anyway? Is that remotely reasonable to expect from public matches?

How come is it easier to kill someone new rather than an unhooked person that has 15 seconds of endurance and 10% haste?
Also killers don't have a choice in the matter of weither survivors want to save on pallets or with flashbangs, sabo hooks and all of that so why are killers expected to not play a strong tactic (it isn't an exploit like some say, otherwise spreading gens and being efficient is too)
How come is it easier to kill someone new rather than an unhooked person that has 15 seconds of endurance and 10% haste?
New in what sense? A new install, or someone with no hooks? New installs will also get 15 secs of buffs, so Im not sure what your point is here.
If it's someone not yet hooked, then I'm even less sure what you mean 'cause that is simply not true?
Also killers don't have a choice in the matter of weither survivors want to save on pallets or with flashbangs, sabo hooks and all of that so why are killers expected to not play a strong tactic (it isn't an exploit like some say, otherwise spreading gens and being efficient is too)
Kind of a false equivalence. We're talking about being eliminated early versus being inconvenienced/stalled. Also, hook sabotages are pretty damn rare in my experience, not to mention risky. Same goes for bodyblocking. Plus, there's no way they'll be able to sabo all hooks, and if you must, you can slug. It's not like you have no options here.
When you're being tunnelled, your only options are to try to hold a chase and pray your teammates do gens, or die.
-
The skill required to counter tunnelling as vastly higher than the skill required to do the tunnelling. Plus, tunnelling is a choice, having to counter said tunnelling is not. You either do, or you die.
Also, generally speaking, going down is an inevitability. Especially against mobile killers, you simply will not run a killer for 5 if they're any good.
-
If we want to get pedantic, the killer you choose is your item.
-
Randomness is the point tho. You gotta play the hand you're dealt, knowing that the same goes for your opponent.
If anything, this is where your true skill should shine.
-
If you're lucky, they might appear in the store at some point.

Well I will go with Pyramid Head and Myers.
These two play by their own rules and could starve the Entity if they really wanted to.
To all that I love the Theory that Myers just stalked the Entity and spawned random into her realm.
I mean, Pyramid Head technically only exists because the Entity wants it to. It ceased to exist within Silent Hill after Sunderland went through it.
The idea that PH could hurt the entity was a fan-theory, I think.

I know what you mean. But sadly most of the playerbase in DBD Killers and Survivors do forget that the other side has feelings too. Best example for that is Tbags and humping. It is just a silly thing you can do but it can frustrated the other side and all you get to read is a simple "Well they should get tough skin" Thats not what you should say to a person. You can do to an NPC whatever you want (I never seen a Nemesis Zombie in this Forum claiming that it is hurtful to get the fist of god into his face) but I am afraid that the small degree between "Yeah take that NPC" converts to a "Yeah you deserve such thing Killer/Survivor for just existing"
I think the people that t-bag and hump do it specifically because the opposing side has emotions. It's provoking a response. Moreover, if humping a player is weird, then humping a bot is rather bizarre.
but I am afraid that the small degree between "Yeah take that NPC" converts to a "Yeah you deserve such thing Killer/Survivor for just existing"
If someone is susceptible to that, I think it's far from exclusive to Outlast Trials. Just about any PvE game could be cause for that escalation.

I never said that the game is bad because I like it.
I just said that this community is often toxic as hell and maybe shouldn´t go for a break on a game which is designed around the same toxic things which are topics in this forum like "Harasment of Victims".
There is a reason why Matthew said try Civ5 instead of another Stressful game. It is to give the brain a break and see the human behind the opposite side and not a "I torture the enemy because I have too"
There’s a distinct difference between torturing other players and torturing NPC’s.
There might actually be some catharsis in doing it to fake people instead of real players.

Ooh, game reccs, I'm good at these.
If we're talking standout indie horror titles, I don't think it's controversial to give Signalis a shoutout right off the bat. Absolutely fantastic love letter to the older style of survival horror games with excellent imagery and a fantastically ambiguous storyline, plus some compelling tense gameplay. If you haven't played it, you should.
However, in a very similar vein of mimicking older survival horror, I would be remiss not to shout out Crow Country, which I absolutely adored every second of. It's much more lighthearted than Signalis but still has its fair share of scary imagery and tense moments, and the writing is top notch.
Everyone I have showed Crow Country to became someone who started convincing others to play it, it's such a good game.I admittedly haven't finished these, but I also want to shout out Heartworm and You Will Die Here Tonight.
They're both classic survival horror as well, with Heartworm recreating the dreamy atmosphere and haunting references to trauma of something like Silent Hill, plus including the gimmick of only damaging enemies by taking pictures of them with your camera that I believe originates in Fatal Frame, though I've never played that. As a bonus, the camera is also your flashlight, illuminating the darkness with the flash that lingers for a few seconds before fading.
You Will Die Here Tonight is extremely old Resident Evil core, with the twist that you control multiple characters who are very certain to perish on the journey, leading you to use the next character to capitalise on the progress you made. It also has a time-loop element I personally find very compelling.
I only played the opening segment to that one, but it's awesome, I really should get back to it.I'll cap off there so this doesn't get too long, but as you can tell I have a fondness for classic survival horror. It's no wonder I've stayed here in the Fog for so many years…
Can concur Crow Country is great.
And I don’t say that because Crows. But, y’know, it’s not a downside.
