I mean, the one thing it does mean is that, at the very least, they're not completely new.
Someone with 10 hours in the game isn't going to have a p100 Ace, I reckon.
Beyond that, it's a total crapshoot.

If you're NOT on switch, back out all the way to the main menu screen, then try again.
-
Doesn't everything, at this point?

As an option? Sure, why not.

Stop spreading misinformation to justify your easy wins. Spirit has ALWAYS been a 4.6 m/s (115%) Killer. Claiming she was released as a 4.4 m/s Killer is a blatant lie or shows you have zero game knowledge.
The '3 years without changes' argument is also fake. She has been tweaked multiple times, but this latest patch isn't a 'tweak'—it’s a execution. You got 35% faster recovery, self-pickup, and window stuns, while the most iconic Killer in the game was gutted to satisfy casual survivors who can't play without a safety net.
If you think 4.4 m/s is fine for a Killer that now has a 2-second warning on her power and reduced phasing speed, you’re not playing DBD, you’re playing a walking simulator. Check your facts before typing.
You just love an easy win, period. Real Pro Survivor players would never say such nonsense; in fact, Spirit was loved specifically for her map control, her pressure, and her jumpscares. You, on the other hand, are clearly a baby Survivor who wants everything handed to them.
In this game, it seems like incompetence is being rewarded by the developers nerfing everything. It’s because poor Survivors who don't know how to play keep crying—you don’t know how to play as a team, you don't know how to gen rush, you don't know how to stun the Killer, you don't know how to save your teammates, and you don't even know how to sabotage hooks. Learn how to play before you speak

Raige bait? Low tier surv? I'm Shure You are. You have no argument and no skill
My guy/gal, you're claiming Spirit had her base movement speed reduced, when this never happened. You're gonna need to do better than that.

I'm on the fence. On the one hand, it'd be rare perk that actually interacts with the crows.
But on the other, I want to befriend the crows…not scare them away.

I havent played on live yet, but I believe the trickster got a fifth TR layer that only plays when he’s in S-rank.
Is that gone? If so, thats a shame.

That refers to another user accepting your answer to a question thread, elsewhere.
As for the topic, they've yet to add a way to promote Legendaries from just skins to being full characters. So, if they'd add another Mina skin now, you'd have to cough up the full price again.

Fine, Halloween was the second DLC. Still, the player gain didnt came with right with the DLC, it came roughly a month later AND fainted as fast as it came and even went further down than before. So claiming that this licence skyrocketed DBDs popularity isnt truely right. Funnily the highest gain (early dbd) was probably around Spirit release. And then during Corona and RE release.
Interesting, I wasn't aware of that particular spike. Though as far as I can tell it's inconclusive whether that was the chapter's doing, since that pattern doesn't repeat with other original releases. I am noticing that there's a huge spike coinciding with the release of the End Game Collapse.
That said, I'd still argue that the momentum gained from Halloween was pivotal to DbD's success overall. If they hadn't landed Halloween when they did, would they have landed Bubba, or Freddy? Would they have landed Silent Hill, and from there, Resident Evil, and Stranger Things?
You mention RE yourself. RE's release coincided with a free weekend, doubling the amount of players, and causing a record-high playercount on steam. Would that have happened if they only dropped original chapters? I strongly doubt it.
For the record, I don't disagree that the game needs to be enjoyable as well. But I do think that the game wouldn't have lasted nearly as long if it only did original chapters.
-
You said, quote
cause with the base game and even the first two DLCs there was no licence, but sure
which is flatly wrong. Many people would argue that Halloween, the very first paid dlc and also the very first license the game ever pulled, skyrocketed DbD's popularity.
"enjoyable content" alone doesn't mean squat if you can't attract an audience to begin with.
-
@Dinadin said:

The very first paid DLC was Halloween.

So one other user is the community? Nice hot take.
All we’re asking is for you to consider that your experience is not necessarily reflective of the whole playerbase.
Some online friends have had three separate encounters with cheaters this week alone.

But others experience is more worth than mine? Or what else will you claim with this?
My point is that you can't claim people are overexaggerating when we have heaps of anecdotes of regional and time differences that say people are, in fact, encountering a lot of cheaters.
-
@Dinadin said:
This hasnt changed at all lately. I see one cheater every few month at all. People are totally overexagerating.
Are they, though? Your experience does not have to be the same as others'.

@RizeKagune said:
I never see cheaters. No i'm not joking or ragebaiting. Every game I queue up it seems like a pretty normal match. Maybe it's my server area idk.
They're increasingly common in the EU, in my experience. I wouldn't say the game's flooded with them just yet, but there's enough for it to be noticeable.
-
Without knowing our MMR, nobody knows how 'good' they actually are.
And if you don't know, then why care? My killrate sits at a comfortable 70%, and I don't tunnel.
-
@Terror_Misu said:
Hmm. Can I ask for a bit of elaboration? What do you mean?
I think they mean that when you burn a ‘Secret’ offering, it’s hidden to all players. There’s no offering that’s visible to all survivors, but not the killer.
With hatch offerings, it results in only the player burning said offering knowing where hatch is going to be, despite them possibly not even being the one to be able to use that information.

Such is the nature of PvP games. If you don't like it, then play singleplayer games. There's no PvP game in existence that is immune to this and I don't know why people expect DbD to be any different.
It’s not that we expect anything different. It’s that I would’ve expected the devs make more of an effort to disrupt the optimised strategies.
The big anti-tunnel update was a real good start, but not only did it never leave the PTB, it didn’t even survive for two days.
And for the record, the concept also applies to PvE. I’d argue even moreso, since there’s no opponents complaining about said strategies outside of the game.
-
@Classic_Rando said:
So you want to play a PvP game but you don’t want the other players to try to win?
You must be aware of the quote
"Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game."I'd argue tunnelling is a textbook example of this quote proven right.

The devs dont balance in a way that is prejudice. They have methods, the same way scientist do. It has to make sense.
This is what i appreciate from the dev team here, because it shows. Its easy to see when you play both sides and have gotten pretty good at the game. Theirs alot of popular opinions here that get flat out ignored, ignored for a long time. And the devs never cave in because if it doesnt makes sense it doesnt make sense.
They dont care about "favorites" in a forrum. If your wrong your wrong. thats a W imo.
Prejudice is something different from bias, though. We can discuss things without prejudice, ie., not immediately assume anyone who disagrees is arguing in bad faith.
Being biased is inherent to having an opinion, though. The devs themselves claim they have a slight bias towards killer being stronger, ‘cause it’s a horror game, and the killer needs to feel threatening. If that bias wasn’t there, we would have a very different game on our hands.
Alternatively, are you more likely to listen to someone with 10.000 hours, or someone with 10? Who’s more likely to know the ins and outs of the game? And the other way round, who’s more likely to spend more money on chapters, new and old?
Besides, if you can somehow manage to get through life without having any biases, you’d have outdone history’s most important philosophers.

That just isnt true, not everyones opinions are prejudiced in nature. This is what dev teams try to actively avoid to make the game better. If the developers based balance around the loud crowd, again, i can think of alot of things that wouldnt exist in the game right now.
Everyone has biases. It’s simply unavoidable if you have an opinion. Even Descartes was biased in his famous thought experiment and his final conclusion from it. He, like all of us, was influenced by the beliefs of his time.
The power lies in knowing where your bias lies.

I’ve been thinking for a while whether he couldn’t get away with having various types of traps.
Tripwires in pallet spawns that dont actually have a pallet, for example.

He might been behind the survivor than damage him and he outrun him with speed buff from taking damage (probably isnt case here but can destroy main event) or he was near its experation time.
Main event is strong but nothing so great unless you use it when you are surrounded by multiple survivors that are in open space so you can hit them.
But then, at best, they cherry picked an example to support their point. Making their argument disingenuous.
Or they don’t know what they’re doing yet, which hardly seems like a good basis to talk about topics like these.

if the survivor just keeps you busy long enough to others to get the gens
Yes. It's not an instant win button completely.
But there are several factors that influence and impact this: survivor looping ability, killer looping ability, killer kit, map, tile, and pallet rng, perk selection, how long to even get into chase, and even teammates can be factors in how long chases go.
Yet it send fairly rare for people to examine these factors whenever tunneling doesn't actually win them the game, and the most common complaints are SWF and gen speeds.
Effectively, when tunneling fails, the most common response is "change the game so tunneling is more effective" rather than examining any of the other factors I mentioned that include personal responsibility, player choices, or skill/knowledge/game sense.
Hey, I dm’d you but you have a private profile so I’m not sure if you saw it.
I got a small question for you.
-
I think this is more of an issue of the pallet break action having the same bind as the pick-up.
But also, it's pretty easy to punish if you see it coming. Be wary of downed survivors right next to dropped pallets. It's pretty much a free hit if they mess it up.
-
Most common is just doing the wrong gens, resulting in the equivalent of a 3-gen.
-
It’s gotten to the point where it’s better to ask what they can’t do, rather than what they can.

Playing with friends and using programs that give you an advantage are not the same thing
If the survivors played without voice communication, it would be balanced, but since they are so sweaty that they need to get any advantage at all costs, they go beyond the line of "just playing with friends."But there’s quite a leap between sweaty squads using clock comms, and friends just having a laugh over voice.
You’re conflating the two.

I don’t think it’s because of the quality of the cosmetics, I think it’s more perhaps that the lesser played survivors are just boring to most people.
Yeah so I forgot to add the word 'some' to 'some people', that was my bad.
It's true they don't have a large playerbase to begin with, but there's also not a whole lot of incentive for other players to switch over to said character, because they don't get many (good) cosmetics.
-
It's kind of a self-perpetuating cycle, though.
People don't play certain characters because they don't get good cosmetics. And because people don't play them, there's no incentive to create more cosmetics, therefore fewer people will play as said characters.
