  • Thanks for the heads-up, greatly appreciated.

I don't really do cats, so here's a garganey (or two?), a kind of duck.

I had to wonder that when I had my interaction with customer support this morning trying to report a hacker. In a nutshell, the interaction went something like this...

BHVR: I am sorry to hear that you encountered someone you believe is exploiting the game.

Have you reported this player in-game?

Me: Yes, I have reported the player in-game. I did so the last time I encountered them as well.

BHVR: There was some misunderstanding on our end, could you clarify if you reported the player in-game?

I just had to face-palm here. I clearly said that I had reported the player in-game. What was there to misunderstand?

(I hope I don't have to provide actual screencaps...)

This reads more like a ‘conventional’ chatbot failing to parse a query, rather than a LLM. A LLM would try to roll with whatever it’s presented with.

As for OP, there’s definitely context missing here. For one, even if it is a LLM, how did it get to a grilled cheese recipe? Even for an AI, that seems really random. Did the user sneak it into their original ticket? Was it brought up in the exchange? It strikes me as the user fishing for a non-sequitur to support their claim. I’d really like to see the full convo here.

I've never even figured out how to change my profile pic. I primarily use the phone for the forums so the UI going to be a bit different compared to PC.

When you tap the icon in the rop right next to the magnifying glass, a widget pops out. You can tap Edit Profile on that. From there, scroll down a bit until you see the option Change My Picture. Then you get a long list of icons. Tap the one you want, scroll all the way down to the list until you see 'save Avatar'. It should then be saved as your profile pic.

They have stated that its there to flag the match for them to find and keep record of it. The reason why they prefer video evidence is because that is faster to prove what happened than the log they need to go through. Also harassment does not just happen in the chat.

I have had confirmation in game of exploiters getting banned even when I have not provided video proof of it but still reported them of it.

Flagging it is not the same as keeping a record, or even a recording of it. All it means is that it tags the match so that support has a much easier time finding the match ID amongst the thousands of matches.

Also, that notif you've received means that action has been taken. They don't actually disclose what that action was, and could very well have been disregarding the report.

Sadly, it's a deeply flawed system.

They don't buy anything cheaters can unlock any skin for free why would they bother buying anything

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4036203#Comment_4036203

False. It flags the match and saves the record of the match that Behavior can review to see if anything odd happened. They want video evidence as that is even better confirmation that there was cheating happening. It also makes it easy for Behavior to find the match when its flagged to review it thats why you always need to ingame report it first before making manual report to their customer support.

Main problem why the cheaters don't seem to go away is the fact that back in the day Epic game store gave away this game for free so bots created tons of accounts on Epic to unlock the game on them. Now you can get one of those accounts with small payment so even if a hacker gets banned they can just buy new account easily. Blame Epic of the cheaters in this game as they made it easy and cheap to have new accounts.

People also never seem to get that anti-cheat is always running behind the cheats as its meant to detect cheats but it only can find cheats its taught to find and cheaters create new ones all the time to go around the detection rules the anti-cheat is taught to use. Anti-cheat is always coming behind and that is a sad fact and does not really matter what anti-cheat it is.

Where’d you find that reporting in-game saves a record of the match? Afaik, the whole reason why they want us to provide footage is because the game doesn’t record anything except the endgame chat.

Prestige does not matter at all. It just shows how much you have leveled a certain character. That P0-Dwight with 1 Perk could have several P100 characters, nobody knows. It is also possible that they got backfilled into the game aka a more suitable Survivor left the Lobby. Or they are in an SWF with other Survivors and just playing their first few games.

I mean, I think we can safely assume that this player is at the very least not very experienced. Dwight is a starter character, after all, with one or two decent perks. An experienced player will likely have Dwight leveled, at least to p1. This player doesn't look to have leveled him over level 5.

It's possible this is an experienced player who simply never leveled Dwight, but that strikes me as unlikely.

I agree. Even before learning how much the abandon system was screwing up stats and MMR, I didn't use the option. I don't like the idea of just leaving a match that's not over. I'd rather a faster bleedout for really toxic slugging situations than the abandon. That would also pressure killers to hook instead of slug and risk losing the kill. I'm exhausted with the boring finisher moris like you wouldn't believe but I still put up with them because it's part of the match.

Starting to think my take wasn't so hot after all, huh.

  • @BlackRabies said:

Necrod thread but still holds valid concerns. agree with what GentleManFridge said. Wished the abandon system was never implemented. Its clear example of catering to the demands of one side while completely ignoring the other. Survivors are given the privilege to abandon the instant it's inconvenient for them but killers are forced to wait out he entire EGC on toxic Survivors tea bagging at the gates. Its also be shown that it completely ruins the data on escape and kill rates.

It needs to be reworked make it so it only becomes available after the last survivor is slugged for let's say 20 seconds which resets after a survivor is hooked or turns off after a survivor gets back on their feet. It forces them to stay for in to let killer finish the mori or hook everyone. Gives time for a survivor to pick themselve up if they have the right perk on and it still gives Survivors a chance to abandon and avoid the 4 min bleed out.

I wouldn't even necessarily say it's "catering to the demands of one side while ignoring the other". I am against the abandoning system as it is, and not in favour of expanding it further. I'm not all that invested into the whole 'let's make this equal' debate.

My point is that it's a luxury that should never have been granted to any side.

BHVR does something like the Anti Tunnel.

People say "Yo BHVR that is to strong turn it down a bit"

BHVR does so and gets the crapstorm of hell.

This forum lives on drama I tell you…

My all time favorite was seeing that people claimed BHVR is Killer Sided because the added tally marks on the Survivors. Because a hard tunneling Killer could forget that he went for Dwight all game long and it is now much easier to tunnel for no reason at all.

The problem is in my personal opinion that you can "as you said" always demand more and never row back.

Good example was the new anti tunnel. Most people claimed "turn the hooks down. If you sacrifice after the fourth hook it is no hard tunnel. But the outcry was enormous and now we got it gutted completly.

Not sure I understand your point. The anti-tunnel changed never made it to live. People never got to get used to those. The abandon system has been around for a while now, and people will not like it if it’s reined in.

  • 9.2.0 could have been it for me, tbh.

Grand, ambitious changes that actually improve the survivor experience, especially for solo’s. It wasn’t perfect, no, but man…

  • My hottest DbD take is that the abandon system should never have been implemented, or at the very least not without a timer before it becomes available. Textbook definition of the phrase ‘opening a can of worms’.

They can’t add a timer now, ‘cause then it creates another storm of “you just hate survivors” and “killers only want to gloat” comments, which assume so much bad intent that it’s frankly asinine. I just want to finish the game in a normal fashion, but for whatever reason they chose to allow it in the most inelegant, immersion-breaking way.

The original intent was to prevent hostage situations. Surely, surely, having to wait 8 seconds for a mori animation to finish isn’t holding you hostage?

If the killer leaves the final survivor on the ground for over 30 seconds to find hatch, sure, let them abandon. But now killers can’t even finish a normal match where nothing underhanded occurred, and still be left to clean up the mess because the survivor can’t be bothered to wait 8 seconds.

Yes crows might be there but not all players know about them, it is not really explained in the training, tricking the crows can happen to if survivors drop and pick up and item for a duration of a time then go back into the locker, ive seen this done before.

…which isnt inherently relevant to them afk’ing in a locker? The locker part isn’t the issue here.

Had a visceral flashback to the time I had smelling salts while playing hockey.

    Those salts are no joke.

Hence why I feel like it fits here. It really gives a kick, enough to remove that exhaustion effect, surely.

  • @Pulsar said:

May as well call the Anti-Exhaustion Syringe the Adrenaline Shot or Adrenaline Syringe.

    Just sounds cleaner.

I was personally thinking of changing it to Smelling Salts, and give it different art too.

Also avoids confusion with the perk Adrenaline.

I agree "Anti-Exhaustion Syringe" feels rather clunky.

  • Just because the game survived, which is admittedly a feat on its own, that still doesn’t mean it deserves it.

Nor will it receive one, because it relies on player votes, and ain’t no way DbD is winning a popularity contest rn.

they could make the resetting traps basekit buff his setting speed have him have all traps at the start and give him more traps have corrupt basekit (should've been base at 6.1.0) so they get in his web easier

this is just ideas i had when i played trapper occasionally

Giving him basekit Corrupt opens up a whole other can of worms, 'cause that's a rather strange mechanic to include as part of a killer power.

Trapper gets basekit Corrupt. That's a perk that he gets basekit. That will inevitably result in players asking for other perks to become basekit for other killers as well. Maybe include some aspects of the classes from 2v8? And who gets what? Should all killers get their buffs from 2v8? But that leaves Trapper behind again, because he wasn't that much stronger in 2v8, comparatively speaking.

All that to say, it really isn't that simple.

'Sides, that would still not put him anywhere near Blight's overall strength.

  • Cause then the powercreep gets even worse.

Moreover, how? How could Trapper come even remotely close to the same strength as Blight, without also completely revamping the power?

  • @iOverSpray said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4029534#Comment_4029534

Youre asking to take away one of 3 killers that consistently competes through out the continued ignorance of gen speed perks, free 2nd 3rd and 4th hit chance perks and 100 extra pallets per map. Were not even mentioning the absolute mess of anti slug uodate that they want to give survivors. Yes, I'd say you'd rather us all play trapper and make your game even more of a wood chop shop simulator so that your nea stays more scary then Michael Myers.

Firstly, that wasn't me making the suggestion. I'm not the OP.

Secondly, there are other killers than Blight, and they must be viable as well. If Blight is allowed to remain significantly more powerful than the other killers, the game's balance overall has to accomodate for that skewed strength, which causes older killers to be left behind. This is typically referred to as power creep. The older killers (Trapper being an extreme example on the opposite end) cannot compete in the current state of the game, partially because Blight and other S-tiers have raised the standard of what balance even means.

If we nerf Blight, thus bringing him closer to other killers, we can more accurately gauge what the actual balance is. From there, we can -theoretically- make more blanket changes that affect all killers, whilst hopefully not disproportionally buffing Blight too.

Remember that balance actually does not mean that you win all your matches. It means that you can have a reasonable chance at winning.

  • @iOverSpray said:

You just want us to use trapper every game and hand you the win more then the devs already do?

Wanting an S-tier killer nerfed is a long way away from “wanting [you] to play trapper every game”

Not really related, but I personally loathe the term 'dash slop'.

Is fair enough, I use the term because it succinctly describes a problem I've identified in many games I have formerly been a fan of, are usually are popular features that undermine the more tactile elements in the game.

Mobility/Repositioning quickly is almost always valuable in any game, I like games to be something you have to think a bit more about, the more different and unique the thinking puzzle is, the more I'm interested. To give an example, the entire point of a "class" in class based games for example is to have specific strengths, but more importantly, specific weaknesses that other classes provide. If you have classes that effectively do the same thing, what's the point?

The reason I dislike mobility as powers in games is quite often they switch a tactile skill into a mechanical one. Mobility achieves several things at once: -

    • It allows players to play aggressively, manifesting as the ability to constantly throw caution to the wind and try their luck (think throwing power constantly at Survivors and forcing pallets for DBD).
    • If they win an exchange and have the advantage, their rapid movement often allows them to press that advantage to quickly capitalise on it (think quickly undoing the post hit sprint away of Survivors).
    • If the lose an exchange and have to disadvantage, their paid movement often allows them to quickly undo that mistake and prevent their opponent from capitalising on it (think getting stunned by a pallet/Decisive Strike, but still cutting off a Survivor before they make the next one).
    • These kind of abilities often allow the user to snowball, as they can get ahead by playing aggressive, and once ahead, retain the above abilities but now with even greater risk of the other side falling even further behind (think of downing another Survivor very quickly after a hook, and then making it hack in time to tunnel off hook as well).
    • These abilities also allow the user to dictate everything on their terms, the opposing side can only react to what they do, they cannot force a difficult decision out of them, they are matters of their own plan (on DBD think of a Clown committing to tunnel a Survivor who take them to main building of Disturbed Ward vs. The same with Blight).

These elements, while loosely defined, are seen in many types of tactile games, and their appeal is they are flashy, allow you to forgo many of the risks that come with your decision making, make your opponent have to work much harder to outplay you, and replace many tactile limitations/weaknesses you would normally have to account for with purely mechanical ones that can be bypassed with appropriate input skill.

As such I like the term, because to me it means "fast and stupid". Not meaning the people who play it are stupid mind you, but merely their decision making is nowhere near as challenged compared to other choices, and thus, these sets a baseline in the game that anything that doesn't offer that mechanical skill expression can't compete with...

Oh I'm not dismissive of the definition, it's the term itself that I don't like. It feels rather cynical and assumes a lack of care. I also have it with 'friendslop', which is arguably an even worse offender.

I know it's rich coming from me, since I am the same person who subscribed to the whole 'descriptivism over prescriptivism' thing. But it just feels inherently dismissive. "I don't like this therefore it's slop" kinda deal.

idk it's based on vibes more than anything, nor am I asking anyone to take it seriously. You just won't hear it from me.

  • @Skeleton23 said:

I 100% Agree. I started sense the D&D Chapter came out and it was a horror game. Now it feels like a Role Simulation game with Arrows telling you where to go and do.

The weaker the Horror part is the More horror is lost when playing.

The game became popular because of the Killers. And what I mean on that is People came her to play and go against there favorite Killers. And if you weaken The side that people came here for. Well the veterans that is

When I first played the game was fun and engaging. I wanted to play against strong team survivors I wanted to play against a good Killer who does his job very well.

Now I just load into a custom game and log off. The game has lost what it was and thats why its dieing. The passion turned into a cash grab that has horror characters in it. It is a forgotten legend

I find it fascinating that from your perspective, around D&D's addition, you still considered it a horror game. That loss of "the vibes" happened way earlier for me.

Makes me wonder if new(er) players still view it as a horror game, simply because they're less familiar with it.

Or, put differently, maybe I have become jaded.

So, like, what’s left? Horror requires the player/reader to be willing to engage with it. Generally speaking, the current playerbase doesn’t care all that much about the horror anymore. They want to play a competitive game.

Indeed, and this is what catering to a mass market always ends up doing in any game. It takes the unique selling points of the game that gives it its niche and its identity and slowly strips them away until nothing of the original premise/concept is left.

Horror is already a bit of a niche format already... DBD being a competative game... it's a game of virtual tag... and what things are good in a game of virtual tag? Speed, finding players quickly, and the ability to land tags around obstacles...

Can you say Dash Slop? Cause that's all a competative game of virtual tag will be. I suppose this patch was inevitable 😏

Not really related, but I personally loathe the term 'dash slop'.

More to the point, I think you're right in that it is more or less inevitable, by the game's very design. By appealing to the many, the few that made it popular in the first place lose interest.

  • Personally, I think the death of horror is inherent to the arcadey nature of the game, which encourages deep familiarity. Knowing the exact numerical values of your opponent’s abilities means you know, at all times, what your opponent is capable of, some techs notwithstanding.

I’ve long thought that the change to explicitly state the numerical value of add-ons was the first point that the horror of the game was fading. It gamifies what used to be heavily flavoured aspects of powers and items. It allows players to optimise their builds, and turns the add-ons, which originally rich in lore, implicit storytelling, etc., into just images + names that modify some number in your toolkit.

Furthermore, the repetitive nature of the game turns what is supposed to be a threat into an annoyance. This is present in all horror games that want you to replay them. Players then ask them to be nerfed because they’re annoying, the monster gets nerfed, thereby reducing the threat of the monster, reducing the horror factor even further.

Lastly, as a disconnected thought: what kind of horror could DbD even be?

Psychological horror doesn’t function with the game’s premise. There’s simply no room for it, especially now with how optimised the gameplay has become.

Body horror wears off upon repeated exposure.

Cosmic horror is also largely psychological in nature, and is entirely irrelevant if you don’t care for lore.

Phobias suffer the same fate as body horror: repeated exposure is bound to reduce the effect.

    Gore, see above.

So, like, what’s left? Horror requires the player/reader to be willing to engage with it. Generally speaking, the current playerbase doesn’t care all that much about the horror anymore. They want to play a competitive game.

  • Blight has a lot of answers to what survivors can do. GF only has his expose and easily breakable stealth. GF's power relies on you getting the drop on survivors, and being able to secure hits as a pure M1 killer.

Against Blight, gaining distance is meaningless. He just rushes at you, making up whatever distance he lost. With GF, if you can make a lot of distance, he just wasted the time he needed to get close to you, and potentially expose you.

Why can this one player negate the entire usefulness of an item taken by a survivor?
Why can this one player view the profiles of survivors before the match starts and thus choose a target for tunneling based on personal bias?

There are 5 players in the match, each of whom paid the same amount of money for the game, each of whom may have spent money on skins, and each of whom should have equal basic rights.
