See? Literally so many ideas to make the old Freddy better from people who don't get paid to do it. It's really a shame to see how the devs took the easy way out on this one. Hopefully they revisit Freddy but I frankly don't have my hopes up considering the laundry list of other killers who need it more honestly.
I always try to do everything I can to bring him back, but it is hard to keep talking when your words fall on deaf ears.

I...don't know.
I never faced him.

Stranger Things is a very good DLC, but unfortunately it was released in the wrong time. It should've arrived here a bit earlier.
And Ghostface is one of my most despised killers, so...

Make the action speed penalty 20% basekit and 40% with green to purple add-ons, keep the new alarm clock mechanic with a twist that the immune to sleep only applying to passive sleep and not being pulled in by Freddy, and keeping dream snares and dream pallets and I think we got a really cool killer.
To be honest, I disagree a bit.
Alarm Clocks are a "no" for me.
The action speed can be stronger than 20% since all it takes is a Skill Check and it is gone.
Dream Snares are also a "no".
But Dream Pallets...I thought about keeping them with an add-on. I think it would be nice.

Just posted something similar kn the other thread.
i would personally leave survivors falling asleep after some time in and also let alarm clocks stay. Failed skillchecks from selfhealing i would remove as a possibility to wake up.
Good to see you are open to QoL changes/additions to old Freddy!
Well, I've always hated the Alarm Clocks and the passively sleep, so they are something I definitely wouldn't keep.
But actually, I thought about removing the possibility of waking up through healing skill checks before, just like you. It was part of my first concept, but I eventually decided against it since, from what I know about current DBD, Self-Care has already fallen from grace.
As for your last comment: I always have been, my friend. All you had to do was ask :)

We just need old Freddy with the teleport and some QOL fixes (For example incapacitated status effect on survivors in the transition idea by @GeneralV)
Thanks for mentioning me, my friend!
And yeah, Dream Projection + QoL fixes (6 of them, actually) are all he requires.
-
I have something you might like:
Power: Dream Demon
Pull survivors into the Dream World
-Survivors who are awake do not see The Nightmare.
-Once targeted by The Nightmare’s power, survivors enter the Dream Transition for 7 seconds.
-The Nightmare’s Movement Speed Penalty for putting a survivor into the Dream Transition lasts for 1 second.
-During the Dream Transition Survivors can see The Nightmare intermittently and they suffer from the Incapacitated status effect.
-When the Dream Transition Lapse, the Survivor is pulled into the Dream World.
Once in the Dream World:
-Survivor’s auras are revealed to The Nightmare when they are outside of his terror radius.
-Survivors suffer an action speed penalty of 40%.
-To exit the Dream World, Survivors can find non-sleeping Survivors to perform a wake up action.
-Failed Skill Checks can also wake up.
-Hooked Survivors wake up.
Special Ability: Dream Projection
-Teleport to a Generator in view. Releasing the button early will cancel the action.
-Survivors cannot interact with the targeted Generator.

Can I ask you a question mate? And in no way is this anything other than a genuine question. I'm still undecided as to whether it should be removed (but starting to lean one way).
What do you like about it and do you appreciate and understand why people want it removed? Or do you think people are just overreacting on others behalf (or in fact believe ig more people want it to stay than don't it should stay regardless if the reaons)?
Feel free to tell me to go do one, but I'm just curious. No hidden agenda promise.
Sure!
Smartface means a lot to me: Claudette is my second favorite Survivor and I mained her for a very long time. This mask was the first that I unlocked, way before Bubba's rework, which is one of my most despised changes btw. Since I bought Leatherface on my second day of playing, this cosmetic is also a reminder of better days in the Fog (around the time I unlocked it).
No, I don't understand why people want it removed. What I do understand and actively support is banning racist players who use it for harassment. These people are nothing but scum that don't deserve to play that game. But removing a cosmetic because of horrible human beings? Never.

Ah, I don't mind sharing mine.
I love the cosmetic and I don't want to see it removed.
My opinion alone is not enough to change anything, but it seems to be the absolute majority here, so maybe there is a chance.

But it was more interesting and had more effort than his current design does.
I really love the OG design, as I am sure you are aware.
Still, you are correct on that last sentence. It is a hundred times better than the current one.

At least you are half-correct.
It is a start.

Ugh, what is it now?

Yes.
I love that cosmetic and would like to keep it, thank you.

Not deleted yet? Then I have time for one more remark:
LEAVE MY SMARTFACE ALONE, BHVR.

It is always, ALWAYS, good to find fellow Old Freddy enjoyers.
There is a reason why I mention his on-release version at every opportunity, insist on his return whenever I can.
We need him back.
-
Nah, DBD can still be saved.
It merely needs someone else behind it.
Someone...like me.
-
A Dream Transition into a Hatch Garb.
I will never forget it: it was in early 2019, and I was playing on one of the Autohaven maps (I think it was old Gas Heaven).
That was easily my best play ever.
A pity that it cannot be done again.

This is the first I'm hearing about renegotiations, and I'm fairly horrified we might end up losing cosmetic options (and what was one of the neatest ways to obtain a cosmetic in this game, imo, it's like a secret bonus unlock and I wish there was more of the sort in DBD) over the endless offense olympics.
Removing Smartface does nothing to hinder racist #########. They'll still be spamming slurs and tunneling certain characters and using extremely offensive names. People that want to cause trouble will cause trouble. If we have to lose all of Bubba's faces over a tiny minority of players calling out another tiny minority of players that should be banned anyway, I'll be pissed.
People really need to ruin things for everyone, I guess.
I totally agree.

Exactly. They didn't need to go back to the drawing board with him, but instead just tweak some things here and there. The fact that survivors can see Freddy when they're awake, and that the only ability he has at his disposal in the dream world is either a snare or a pallet is really depressing.
Precisely. It was so easy to fix...
And yet...you know what happened.
-
@SuperSaiyan4GT said:
Freddy is one of the most overpowered killers. Has the ability to teleport to gens, place fake pallets and place blood pools to slow down looping. Also his lunge is super op. I've seen his lunge reach where others can't. Obviously you are playing against baby killers
Please just stop those comments about the lunge. It hurt my eyes to read them
His lunge is the exact same as every killer's. The devs have said it themselves.
It is his shorter character model that makes it look a bit weird.

I joined the game when I couldnt see him. And then he has snare/pallet. There was another version before that? Im curious what he was in 1.8.0
Similar, but better.
In the early days:
-His TR was only 16 metres.
-The movement speed penalty for pulling a survivor into the Dream Transition lasted for 1 second instead of 3.
-Dying Survivors who are healed to the Injured State were not automatically woken up.
-The delay between a Survivor leaving his TR and their aura being shown was 1 second instead of 10.
-There no glimpses. You could see intermittently during the Dream Transition.

When freddy came out. I remember plenty of times where a survivor was on a gen, healing someone or opening an exit gate. By the time they fell asleep they had completed their task. I do not miss that.
As for the progress hindrance while asleep. I miss that but there were way to many ways for survivors to wake themselves up. Looking at old freddys dreamworld and pinheads chain hunt. I feel we need more mechanics like that. Ways to oppress all survivors instead of stacking slow down perks.
And as for survivors dont want to learn a different play style. Theres no stronger proof of that than nurse. They want pallet looping and hold w to dominate all killers -.-
That is why I suggested the Incapacitated status effect during the Transition.
Problem solved.

Pulling people into the dream world is what made me buy DBD in the first place. It was such an intriguing gaming mechanic that was true to his character. But ever since his rework there's nothing unique to the dream world anymore. He's hardly any different to the other killers in the game now.
You are goddamn right!
And don't worry, my friend, he will return eventually.
He has to.
-
I don't think so.

@Malkhrim said:
I've seen a lot of people comment on this forum that the old Freddy was more fun to play, but I disagree completely.
Old Freddy's power was just "pull the survivor to the dream world". You would press M2, the survivor would start the transition and, after 7 seconds, you would finally be able to hit them, and then you would become a normal M1 killer with no other power beside that long range aura reading. The only thing that was kinda fun was that he would fade in and out of the survivor's vision during the transition, and you could possibly use that for your advantage. But anyway, Freddy still has that when he approaches a survivor who isn't in the dreamworld.
What stopped Freddy from being completely bad was the 50% action speed reduction all survivors would get while in the dreamworld, which could slow the game down for a good lot. The problem is, you had to rely on RNG for that. If a survivor got a skillcheck as soon as they started working on a gen, the effect vanished and you had to put them to sleep again. His way of applying pressure involved a lot of going back and forth to keep as many survivors in the dreamworld as possible, and on chases he had nothing.
I have way more fun with his teleport ability, that can be faked and used to ambush survivors and get hits, than with his old kit. Placing pools of blood or fake pallets might not be much compared to what Freddy did in the movies, but at least it's something. Before that, he didn't have any kind of dream manipulation, he would put people to sleep and after the transition chase them as any m1 killer would.
Pulling people into the Dream World is MUCH more fun than placing useless pools of blood, though.
Besides, you didn't even need a chase power with him in order to be effective. He required a different playstyle, which many players were not willing to learn.

"I do not understand why the devs have ignored The Game for such a long time."
The sad thing is, this is one of the maps they remade most recently, so we can only assume BHVR have absolutely no idea how to balance things, and this map is going to be like this for a while.
We can assume?

Wait. You were always talking about the initial version that got changed with the very next patch?
i actually never saw that version in action as I joined around Clown release. Always thought you were talking about the version pre-complete change.
I have already talked about both, actually.
Freddy " on-release" is his very first version, which is the one that should return, with one or two changes I thought about.
"Old Freddy" is his pre-change version, the killer that I mained for months.
-
This thread, just like Freddy's current power, exists solely because of a single mistake called Patch 1.8.1, that happened long ago.
Freddy's very first version, the one Patch 1.8.0 introduced, was the best killer BHVR has ever designed: fun, unique and strong without being overpowered.
It is devastating that he was very short-lived.
-
I disagree with your reasoning, though your title is absolutely correct.

Obviously I wasn’t around back when Freddy was your main. But you only got to enjoy him for one week??
Not quite..
You see:
-"Freddy on-release" was his short-lived first version, and in my honest opinion the best killer BHVR has ever created. Due to mysterious, unreasonable, and downright pathetic complaints, the developers decided to nerf him merely a week later.
-That brings us to the "Old Freddy" that you've heard of, created by the devastating Patch 1.8.1. Albeit weaker than his previous and perfect version, this Freddy was still a mid-tier killer with amazing potential when used effectively.
"Old Freddy" lasted from November of 2017 until July of 2019, when he got reworked.
I started playing DBD in December of 2018.

Newer players
I mean just a year prior some people were saying Wraith was the strongest killer
And this was old old Wraith...
The one who couldnt modify his movement speed while cloaked, needed to bring an add on to gain a speed boost after uncloaking but came at the cost of his movement while uncloaking, and his bell and woosh sound being map wide
Oh and his growls were loud af
Clearly the strongest killer.
If BHVR had done the right thing back then, current and boring Freddy wouldn't be a thing.
All they had to do was leaving him alone. But NO, they had to listen to these players.
I doubt any of them played more than 1 trial against on-release Freddy. I really doubt it.
-
He, thanks for quoting me on this one.
Well, as @Altarf said, the best bet would be reworking Freddy entirely. I know you were not here for his on-release version, nor for the "Old Freddy" that I am sure you've heard of, but his power used to be extremely interesting and the most unique one in the game, as long as you knew how to use him effectively.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRzyKWnSzrk&ab_channel=BrickyThis video from Bricky actually shows it quite well.
Freddy's current power must be removed from the game. However, in order to avoid being unfair to those who, somehow, like his current power, on my concept I used Black Box to keep something from his current version:
Black Box:
-Broken pallets are replaced by Dream Pallets
-Non-sleeping survivors cannot see or interact with Dream Pallets

Theres a couple that could take this title
1.8.1
Truly was a time where the devs gave in and actually nerfed a killer because of the complaints, Freddy wasnt even close to being a strong killer and yet they still nerfed him just 1 week after his release
2.4.0
The release of Legion was the buggiest patch we've received at the time, being the first time they've ever had to disable a map. Not only that but Legion was the most unhealthy piece of garbage to date. Since then they have also made the decision to only play event music in the main menu screen
4.4.0
The Twins patch, 'nough said
4.5.0
Changes to the UI and animations, was also the visual update for the Gideon Meat Plant. I personally liked the animations but that UI was horrible, The Game also became more of an unbalanced mess than it was already
Though I know it is the truth, that story regarding Patch 1.8.1 and the complaints will always be a great mystery for me.
I mean, the game had Pallet Vacuum, Old BNPs, Old DS, Insta-Blinds, Infinites, and people were having problems with Freddy?
Like, really?
What kinds of players were those?

It still has two guaranteed god pallets, plus the window's are very easy to chain together.
That actually depends on the layout that you got.
Sometimes your window will chain with other windows, or it can chain with absolutely nothing.
The pallets, which can be only be used once, are always there tho.

No, it was not.
That Patch ruined my main, turned the most unique killer into the most boring one, when one or two QoL adjustements and buffs would have sufficed.
I will never forgive BHVR for that.

I think I can see the justification for all of these but could you explain Lery's?
Léry's is very unpredictable and it is easy to approach a Survivor from pretty much any direction you desire. Gens can also be a bit though to find.
Not to mention that it was Old Freddy's best map, so this has an effect on my opinion :)

3.1.0 was Freddy's rework, you can imagine how much I hate it.
