  • I don't think DbD has another 10 years in it to be honest. There is a very real chance that the player peak that we saw with Jason's release will stand DbD's highest peak of all time, past and future. Seriously, what license we have yet to get could top Jason? We've seen this pattern for years now, players come in on the big licenses but they don't stay and play once the novelty wears off and they realize they're playing an unbalanced spaghetti-coded mess with a long and steep learning curve.

Maybe modding can save the game, but that's a year away if it comes at all.

  • I started playing DbD in 2018. I started as a killer main, first as Myers main, then a Doctor main then as a Clown (before here he got his yellow bottles) main. I was a killer main through 2021 back when Dead Hard was KING. Back then I never experienced what I'd consider killer anxiety.

In early 2023 I experienced extreme hypertension. In the months following that I tried playing killer and sometimes I'd "peak" with anxiety so bad I had to stop playing midmatch it was so bad. Since then I got my hypertension under control and stopped gaf if I win or not as killer. But I'll never forget that feeling I experienced.

I never experienced that as survivor. I could always die and move on, which is not an option as killer. As killer sometimes if a chase lasts 10 seconds too long you lose, especially if you're playing a killer with low snowball potential. That's DbD.

  • I think removing the locks would make both playing survivor and Dredge less interesting. Also, Dredge has trouble earning Deviousness points and breaking locks are worth 200 points each.

One thing I'd change is the lock just one locker in a group because the Dredge always teleports to the locked one mechanic. Maybe make it the opposite, the Dredge always teleports to the unlocked one so survivors have to lock them all for it to only work once.

Also, I'd like to see an addon that would disable Nightfall altogether but give Dredge a faster power cooldown and faster teleport speed all the time.

  • Less: Jason, Trapper, Hag, Ghoul, Trickster, Clown, Plague, Oni, Twins

More: Nurse, Huntress, Slinger, Springtrap, Billy, Bubba, Singularity, Legion, Pyramid Head, Dredge, Onryo, Pig

I really wish I saw more Pigs. I love to play the Game, and like to activate my trap before searching any boxes. Heck, if the Pig brings the Iri Video Tape I'll try to do a gen off the hop and activate everyone's traps, a feat I have yet to pull off because the Pig herself has always stopped me. I know it's not optimal but I have fun playing vs Pig this way.

  • I haven't been enjoying the event. I feel like I can't have fun playing anything but Legion and that's getting old. I am adding more cakes to my stockpile that am likely to never burn.

  • Jason didn't need a good perk for people to buy him.

The game is getting a major technical overhaul later next year, i wouldn't expect anything before then

The game will receive a graphical update next year, but will it actually be a technical overhaul? Or will it make the game look better but run worse?

  • Hook grabs were terrible and I am glad they're gone. They were what made face-camping or Insidious-camping so powerful back in the day. If you let killers have hook grabs in Endgame, guess what no one but the giga-SWFs will go for Endgame saves anymore if the killer is facecamping.

I agree that 15 seconds is too long. It makes it too dang easy. 2 healthy survivors go for the save simultaneously, the killer hits one and while they're in the wiping animation the other survivor saves. The injured survivor is way off in the lead to the gate and the other 2 survivors can tank a hit each. This practically makes the save free as long as the hook was within 60m of an open gate.

After the generators are complete basekit BT should be 8 seconds. Then saves past 32m from the gate aren't so free anymore. I remember when that used to be the way it was and it made for some exciting escapes, or unfortunate demises. Heck it'd still be longer than 32m since the unhooked gets haste now.

  • Perks, no not really. As one who SoloQs a lot I have no problem bringing good perks as I usually die in the end anyway. On Killer I usually run backpack build. I'd really like to have Turn Back The Clock, which does annoy me when killers use it, but I doubt it'll appear in the Shrine this year.

I used to be a Clown main, way back in the day before he had his yellow bottles. Easily have hundreds of hours playing him back then. Then I played a few matches against him as survivor and realized how awful it was to go against him, so I moved on to playing other killers.

  • Don't worry Jason will get nerfed by or before Halloween. This is a pattern for BHVR. They often launch characters or their perks, especially licensed ones, in overtuned states so they sell DLCs only to nerf them later. I first noticed it when they launched Ashley Williams in a survivor-only chapter and Mettle of Man only took 3 normal hits, not protection hits, to activate.

  • They announced well before the last anniversary that it was the last Masquerade. That means BHVR had well over a year to be planning and working on making the Black Banquet great. It appears as if they put a lot more planning into the party in Montreal and selling physical merch and in-game cosmetics than making the event positively memorable.

BHVR doesn't usually do anything quickly, so don't get your hopes up. Be glad we get 1 cake per web now at least. A very slight chance something changes with the next hotfix, but don't get your hopes up.

  • What have I leaned? That I'm not that good of a Ghostface. 🤪

  • I've played a fair amount on both sides during this event and since 2018.

I've played survivor and I admit my looping skills have gotten rusty. SoloQ is a deplorable experience. Playing in SWFs on comms (non-comp, we're trying to have fun not making clock callouts) or off comms has not been much better. Killers are playing like it's a personal insult for survivors to earn BP with the Tortes they're burning.

If I want to see a killer in a match that plays nice or at least fair, I have to be the killer.

To those that are complaining about the queue times, these are not at all out of line with past queue times, it's just now that people see estimated times they think they're longer than they used to be. 3-5 minutes is pretty much standard for killer. At least now you can PWYW, we used to have to just twiddle our thumbs.

Its not instant though since there's a cooldown. If your wrong, you have to wait out the cooldown just like you would if you used Spirit to blindly check a gen.

Oh, by the Entity, I said instantly went I meant practically instantly. My bad! Carry on Mr ChatGPT.

You guys should take into account that not all have cakes yet on all characters. Going after someone just because they first time play a character in the event is not really nice.

Why would they activate a Blood Rush or Blood Hunt if they won't give out cakes at the usual rate? Just give out cakes at the normal, expected anniversary rate - problem solved.

I Because gasp they have done Blood Rushes during every anniversary ever?!? Name one they haven't

Most other anniversary events have been accompanied by at least a Blood Rush. But whatever, we shouldn't expect that either.

Yes I do this as killer during the event too. Unless you're an obnoxious BM'ing survivor.

Thanks man. Thank the Entity I am not the only one.

  • Take it from someone who remembers the days before DC penalties were a thing, YES WE NEED SOME FORM OF DC PENALTIES. They used to DC for the most frivolous of reasons EVERY DAMN GAME! You think it's bad now, BY THE ENTITY, every game used to be ruined by the first downed.

  • Man I regret even slightly defending this event. I want to play killer because if I play survivor it's usually some sweatlord who tunnels and slugs for the 4k. As killer I can only find fun with Legion. It's painful.

no? because in the beginning (unless the survivor is that confident in looping or jason has lethal) how the match starts is people crouch walk and you have to guess where they are since crouch walking (especially urban) gives no information and if the survivors tap a gen and ruin goes off they'll go looking for ruin/undying/thrill and if 2 people go looking 1 goes on the gen and 1 in chase it's up to jason and with the spike hitboxes being smaller your more likely to dodge than a huntress hatchet

this is also a problem since survivors can't read a hud and make decisions based of what other people do on it

See here's another person saying "just do X" and leaving out all the nuance.

Even if survivors do this it's still a win for Jason because survivors are wasting time not advancing their objective and odds are Jason will find a survivor sooner rather than later by making educated guesses as to where survivors spawn at the beginning of the match and being able to instantly hop back into OE if he's wrong. Entity help them if they dare to touch a lit totem.

  • We can still easily earn on average more than 3 cakes per match as survivor and more than 5 cakes per match as killer, so it's really not that bad. It's just not the 10+ cakes per match they somehow gave us during the 8th anniversary. It's just that now if you spend a single Saturday playing DbD you'll still come away with a decent amount of cakes and not a lifetime supply.

It wouldn't be so bad if the event were actually fun to play, then more people would be playing than taking to places like this forum to complain about everything.

Hopefully they give us a Blood Rush or Feast to help.

Jason can’t do anything quickly coming out of omni. He has a delay, you have more than ample amount of time to get away unless you opt to greed. Further you can see foliage move around him.

In the hands of a good player Jason can easily get downs within 30 seconds of appearing, especially against the average DbD player today. So I really don't get what you're on about.

  • @terumisan said:

even in a stalemate there are still 4 survivors so if they all split and do 4 seperate gens jason loses unless he gets a down in 30 seconds since the survivors can still progress their objective

Well Jason can appear out of nowhere right next to a survivor on most generators, get a quick M1 and follow up with a quick spear. Often he can get a down in less than 10 seconds and I bet Hens does that often. After that then only a maximum of 2 gens get worked on while Ruin does its work.

It's the same old routine in DbD discussion when something needs a nerf, people call for nerfs and other people counter with "Just do X!" It's never that simple.

I think Jason needs better telegraphing on where he was while he is using Omnipresent Evil. Something like if he is within 24-32m of a survivor the fog changes in some manner. He shouldn't be able to pressure the entire map with an ability that never goes on cooldown, that's why he's such an excellent pub stomper.

I played it yesterday and yes, I won my sadako match. I won at 3 gens remaining.

Did I have fun though? Absolutely not. It was old dh with hit validation - levels of infuriating.

Most of your points boil down to: are the survivors morons? Yes? Well, then your gonna win. Is that game gonna be fun? Depends, but for me probably not at all. Compared to most people here and in dbd, I play to have fun. I got over 4500h and unlocked everything I want. Im truly just playing to have fun playing my fav characters. Pig feels utterly unplayble. Traps are an absolute joke because survivors can tp to the boxes and I don't have to explain why not being able to break pallets is a problem for a non mobility-, no pallet break / vault - killer.

Yes. I can poison a survivor to get an almost guaranteed hit. Cool. I can play Ghoul on steroids. What engaging gameplay.

Again, I'm happy for those enjoying this event. I just don't want to deal with bhvr endorsed cheaters. I had enough cheaters in my games when they made dbd free on epic for a weekend.

I made 5 points and only 1 of them can be "boiled down" to "are survivors morons?" So to you 1/5 or 20% = most? Maybe you're the …

I get it. This event is a disappointment. I'm disappointed too. It's the 10th year anniversary, they hyped it so much even the Entity should have been excited for it. Instead we got the weakest event ever.

I wish all the new people brought in by Jason's chapter got introduced to DbD with something better than a load of meh.

I hope you have fun playing something else. Consider picking up a new game on Steam. The deals that can be had right now are crazy!

Well, then let's hope that there are enough killer players that want to either cheese to win or endure the uphill battle.

You're not seeing the big picture. All you see is the overpowered buffs that survivors are getting.

Killers get some less tangible but significant bonuses:

    • Strong tiles on certain maps get deleted, replaced with the event tile that has a single pallet, no windows and only short obstacles. I've seen it replace the Cursed Cabin on the Swamp making a huge section of the map a dead zone.
    • Banquet Tables replace main gens very often which have resulted in some of the tightest 3, 4 & even 5 gen groupings that are ridiculously easy to defend. Practical no win scenarios for all but the sweatiest of SWFs.
    • If carts don't spawn close to Banquet Tables survivors can waste far too much time plating the table that they never get the gens done.
    • There are an abundance of clueless newbs who just joined DbD with the Jason chapter who are complete cannon fodder.
    • And the poison bottles are really good too.

Killers are eating well in both queues, worry not.

  • The bonus points from the event are negligible and non-multipliable by the Tortes. Once you got the event quests done there really isn't much point staying in the event queue aside from faster killer queue times.

  • Ever since the abandon option was introduced I've always thought the killer should have an abandon (resign) option. If the killer abandons (resigns) after the gates are open all remaining survivors should get full credit for escaping, the bloodpoint score, the increase in MMR and their adept if they're so equipped.

If it worked like that then I don't think it would be out of line for killers to be able to pop the gate and immediately resign. And if they can't make it work like that for whatever reason make it 60 seconds after EGC starts. Having this option for killers would encourage survivors to just leave instead of hanging out at the exit line.

Killers also should have the option to abandon if there is just 1 survivor remaining in the match. The survivor in that scenario gets the option to abandon so why not the killer?

It happens far too often where 1 survivor is at the exit line holding up the show for a killer who probably has a long wait in the queue for their next killer game anyway.

I have yet to read a single compelling argument against these 2 abandon scenarios being added to the game. It all boils down to either "I want to killer to suffer longer," "I want the killer to watch me leave (and teabag)" or both. I've gotten a fair amount of my adepts from games where killers DC'd as long as the game went over 5 minutes so I think the adept point is a non-issue.

No one asked for the cake rates to be changed. They were perfectly fine before.
Most pointless change in the history of the game, that only served to make a lot of players unhappy.
If anything, the cakes helped us stay in the game, and they helped make the grind manageable.

No one ever would ask for the cake rates to be lowered. They'd probably still be crying for more cakes if they left them the same as last year, which was lower than the year before.

I can understand them cutting the cake output a bit from times when people could stack hundreds of cakes on a character with just a few hours of play. I still have 400 Screech Cobblers on my Lich and I've played him a lot over the last 2 years. Playing for a day during the 8th anniversary netted me practically a lifetime supply of cakes on many characters, and I burn a cake every game I play 365 days a year because I have so many cakes not burning one would be a waste. They gave me so many cakes I don't even value them, they're like my bags of Canadian pennies that are no longer currency.

We can still stack hundreds of cakes on characters, it just takes a little more time and effort. If you're a casual who can only manage to play DbD for a just a few meager hours during the 21 days that the event is live that's a problem with the player and not with the cake drop rate. We can still earn 4+ cakes per match played during the event and they gave us 5 million BP. It's not that bad.

I wouldn't ask for the cake rates to be lowered either, I'd love to see 5 cake games year round. I am just saying I understand.

You wrote yourself, thats its the same. Thats obviously false information. Why do you try to badmouth me instead of accepting that you are wrong?

At no point has he badmouthed you or intentionally spread misinformation. You do not have the moral high ground.

  • Out of curiosity how many cakes from last year do you have left on Lara and Rize?

  • 95% of the time this forum is just complaining about something, so it doesn't surprise me they are ignoring it. Cakes are just the flavor dujour.

Survivors can earn 18+ cakes per prestige (perhaps that's increased since I last tested it) and killers make 26+ per prestige, tested yesterday. That is still a lot of cakes. That means for a match that earns a player 200k bloodpoints, a common occurrence during the anniversary event, a survivor earns about 3-4 cakes per match played and killers earn about 5 cakes per match. Yes, in previous iterations we could earn 10 cakes per match and judging from my own cake arsenal that I will never get through I can see why BHVR might have wanted to pare that back a bit.

There are still at least 18 days left in the event so you can still stack hundreds of cakes on your favorite characters.

  • It just seems like the community has no concept of fun. There is a visible minority of the DbD community that's here, on other forums, on reddit, on X, in Youtube comments and elsewhere who like to moan about everything they think is wrong with DbD. Then there are a massive number of players who don't interact much if at all with the community aside from just playing the game and/or watching some of their favorite content creators who foster more positive communities.

  • My tip for the Black Banquet is to burn a Toothy Torte, other anniversary cake or a Bloody Party Streamer every game. This helps everyone get more cakes to keep the cycle going. Using cakes makes more cakes.

If you don't have any of those use Escape! Cakes, Survivor Puddings or other blood point offerings so you can buy and use Tortes. Don't waste your offering slot on non-bloodpoint offerings like maps or luck.

The cake earnings might not be as amazing as previous years but matches are still cake positive. Even if you are the newest survivor having the roughest of matches you are going to be earning 5x what you usually earn so make the most of it. You will earn back the cakes you spend and more on top of that, so please do us all and especially yourself a favor and burn a cake every match of DbD you play during the Black Banquet.

Also you may want to avoid bulk-spending your bloodpoints if you want to get all the cakes that spawn in your bloodwebs. I just tested this after that big red notice at the top of the page went up and it still misses cakes, so beware.

  • The Pig should have the power of flight. The "when pigs fly" memes would be amazing.

  • I play killer in the event queue because of fast queue times. I have been playing some SoloQ matches in the event, and the amount of times I have been hard tunneled out or slugged while a greedy killer has to get their 4K has been egregious. At least if I play killer I am guaranteed to get decent value out of my cakes and I know I am in a match where the killers isn't a complete cretin. I never slug for the 4K and let the last survivor have the hatch more often than not.

I have been playing Legion because I always make great points with them and I can vault the invincible pallets and they can chew through the free heals the Banquet Payoffs give. Getting frenzy stabs on invisible survivors is incredibly satisfying.

I don't think the event is as survivor-sided as everyone else does because you can get some really broken generator spawns and survivors often waste a lot of time messing with the event stuff rather than getting gens done. But I'm not really thinking about it that much. It's more about getting 18 cakes for every ~3-4 games I play which makes the game so much more bearable.

  • This is the pattern for guaranteed cake spawns:

    3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, 28, 30, 33, 35, 38, 40, 42, 45, 47, 50
