This would only be true if the games own rank system reflected it. a 2k is usually a depip or black pip. even a 3k is a black pip most of the time
The game is literally telling you that you did bad when you meet the expected goal of 2-2
Ranking up is not the win condition. In order to rank up, you have to demonstrate that your skills surpass the rank that you are at. If you're getting black pips, that means you're where you're supposed to be in the rank system.
Not pipping does not mean you didn't play well, it just means you didn't exceed expectations for the rank you're at. The fact that so many people confuse pipping with winning and therefore think they've done something wrong if they don't pip is the reason why so many believe that nothing under a 4k is an acceptable match result.

I'm talking LIVE.
It's a bit too late to re-cast at this point, unless people really want it and the voice actor is willing to do it.
I'm sure it wouldn't be a huge problem, if they can do it for her they can do it for Steve. It's just a matter of updating some game files. It just depends on whether the devs want to do it.

If enough people ask for it than they'll probably give it another re-cast.
A fair bit of players have already pointed out how much they dislike his screams and voice acting when running or being hooked... so it might catch on, maybe?
I've never heard of a re-do for a voice actor before though, so what you hear is probably what you're going to get tbh.
I wouldn't mind the change, but this is most likely what we'll get.
They did it for Kate, but that was back in her PTB.

But a kill after the gates are open is not a kill that should be counted in stats that suggest killers are "over performing"
Sure it should. A kill is a kill, like I said. Just because it happened late in the game doesn't make it any less valid.

In most scenarios evenly matched opponents will eventually result in a victory of 1 side or the other..but in this case the implication is that in an ideal scenario of the same type the killer at max could not achieve more than a 2k in that same scenario..therefore..that automatically puts the game in survivor hands at all times..1 little mistake and the killer will flat out be demolished because said killer only has the strength to prevent 2 from escaping in an evenly matches scenario..The games current balance has proven that this is indeed the case and the whole system is flawed severely
I think you're misunderstanding how the 2k average is supposed to apply to balancing. Yes, with a killer and four survivors who are equal in skill level, theoretically that match should end in a tie. In the same way that theoretically, a soccer game where both teams are equal in skill should end in a tie. If one side wins, that means they were better, or at least played better. That's how it works in every competitive game in existence (competitive being here defined as "a game in which players compete with one another").
Realistically, though, even if both sides are equal in skill level, there are many other factors that can influence the outcome of the match, from one player being off their game to simple random chance. But if all players are equally skilled, on average, their matches should be ties. That doesn't mean that every game should be a 2k, it means the killer should get a 3k or 4k about as often as they get a 0k or 1k, and individual survivors should escape about as often as they die.
In short, it's not that a 2k is the "ideal scenario" for either side, or that the killer is only strong enough to achieve a maximum of 2 kills, but it's where the median should sit.

Oh, I see! Well I don't know anyone who owns the Collard Death one, so hopefully just screenshots of the default Demogorgon will be good enough.
Hopefully these work!

More information is always nice to have, I suppose. What conclusions were you planning to get from a stat like that, though?
It seems like you're implying that there's something wrong with survivors dying after the generators are powered, but a kill is a kill, I would have thought.

Also, what do you mean by "split jaw and collard death"? Just so I can make sure to get something that suits your purposes.

I read the thread again, and this thread also talks about how grindy The Rift is as well — which makes my point still relevant to the topic. OP already knows they don't deserve the completion of the Rift because they said they took breaks. OP's focus in this thread is on WHY (s)he quit playing for a while. That being: The Rift being too grindy. OP obviously want this problem to be solved, and that's why I'm offering solutions — as well as agreeing to OP's points.
With that said, I can sympathize a lot for BHVR here because it's their first time doing something like this — of course they won't get it perfect the first time or maybe even the second. It's okay to admit that BHVR didn't get The Rift right the first time — I expected they wouldn't because as mentioned above, it's their first time. Now, to be fair, I wouldn't say it's as grindy as some people make it out to be, but you can tell that there's obviously a problem with the amount of grind need to complete The Rift.
To clarify, something being grindy isn't bad, but when it's too grindy, like when you have to sacrifice an unfair amount of time to get the rewards, that's when it becomes a problem.
I don't want BHVR to make knee jerk reactions to this because I don't want them to repeat history like before. However, just doing some small changes like fixing challenges and making them more fair for their difficulty is a start. That's really all I'm saying, and that BHVR is doing a great job given the circumstances. 😁🤗
Hopefully, you can agree with me here.
We may have to agree to disagree. As I said, I'm not convinced that the time it takes to get rewards is unjust (it's definitely fair, but I'm not going to quibble over semantics because I knew what you meant), and I don't think we'll know for sure whether it met its goal of being completable for the average player until the average player has had a chance to complete it. Again, we're not even halfway through yet. It's too early to be drawing conclusions.
And honestly, I don't think that making the challenges easier did anyone any favours as far as Rift progress is concerned. There were only two challenges that I would have considered in need of a change, and one of them wasn't even touched. The only thing that making the challenges more accessible did (aside from making the bloodpoint and lore rewards more accessible) is necessitate the completion of even more "normal" matches (that is, ones not done in pursuit of challenges) in order to finish the Rift. Because getting Rift progress from XP alone is a much slower process, it will likely make the Rift feel even more grindy, even though in theory it's still the same amount of work.

I'll be happy to help once I get ingame, if someone else doesn't beat me to it 😊

Consider that the current philosophy sounds like killers should never truley win in an "even" fight..because two kills is at best a for them and a win for whomever escapes, therefore technically the killer still loses in that case ...seems like a rather distasteful idea to think about
If the killer in question wants to perform some mental gymnastics to make themselves feel bad in the event of what is essentially a tie, not a loss, that's their business. But they might have a better time if they think of it as what it is, rather than telling themselves that 2 or even 3 kills is not good enough because "some of the survivors escaped which means I lost".

Being in a lobby for longer actually makes it less likely that you'll get a good match, because the longer you stay in queue, the wider the system opens the search rank-wise in order to ensure that you get a game.

You know what's happening?
I mean, my best guess is that it actually is free and that's why it won't let you buy David. I'm surprised that it even shows Huntress as being available for shards. Have you tried what @apathytheclown suggested and looked for the Lullaby for the Dark DLC on the PSN Store? Because I just looked at it in my browser and it says it's free.

Is Huntress really not free on PS4? That's a bummer. She was the last free DLC they released on PC.
Anyway, it depends on what you value. Plague is a lot of fun. Huntress is good and also fun if you can master her, and Spirit is obviously the strongest. If you're just looking for good perks, Clown is probably the best choice.
Personally, I would advise prioritising killer power/fun gameplay over perks, because if you're only interested in a character for their perks and won't actually play them, you can always get those from the Shrine with a bit of luck and patience, and less shards.

I'm looking forward to exploring the new map in an actual game (wasn't able to have any games on the PTB because PTB queues where I live are practically non-existent) and seeing a million Yuis running around until the hype dies down lol.
Also, I'm hyped to play against Oni, learn how he works in practice and form strategies to counter him.
Oh, and the Patch Notes. I'm very interested to see what they changed from the PTB.
So basically, all of it!

is that pc only for the update or console too?
They usually aim to release updates at the same time on all platforms. There may be a slight delay on console due to verification processes the patch has to go through, but it shouldn't be more than an hour or so and most of the time it's only about ten minutes, if that.
-
I wish. I have always felt that Steve's voice sounds pretty half-assed, especially the hook scream and the scream when he goes down. I can't help but make fun of it every time I play him.
-
I prefer the first idea, but there's a glaring hole in both.
That is, everyone knows that there is a totem in the basement, and totems don't take long to cleanse. 99% of the time, that will be the first thing that good survivors do at the start of the match, to guard against this perk and potentially NOED, making it arguably even more useless than it currently is.
I think a better way to go is just to make it a normal, non-hex perk, and reduce the buffs it grants somewhat to compensate. The point of Monstrous Shrine is to make the basement an advantageous location to hook survivors, not to make it virtually impossible to escape. Remember that in terms of defensibility, the basement is already quite strong, especially on certain killers. I think buffing it from its current state rather than a complete rework is the best way to fix the perk without making it completely overpowered.

While I agree that you can earn that XP organically, you cannot deny how absurd it is to ask a person with an average of 1 hour worth of play time to complete that.
Like others said, queue times waste valuable time rather than getting into games and earning that XP. Also, not all games will give you 600 XP because games are unpredictable and can wield different results.
Currently, I only play Dead by Daylight on the weekends, and you might quickly say, "Nick, of course your going to struggle if you only play on the weekends," However, I spend around 5 hours on Fridays, Saturdays, and sometimes, Sundays. Therefore, within one week I'm playing 10 to 15 hours, so on a good weekend, I'm actually playing a little over 2 hours on average.
As of today, I'm on tier 32 in The Rift and have not touched Tomb I Level III — I'm just about to finish Level II. I expect to gain 15 tiers from completing all of level III with the accumulated XP. With me being expected to be at tier 47 and need to earn 23 tiers within the last level of the Tomb...
You're really pushing me here.
I know BHVR isn't perfect, but adding in certain things to help us wouldn't hurt, too. I suggest that Daily Rituals give 3 or 5 Rift Fragments depending on their difficulty level. 😁🤗
Maybe add some offerings that grants the player 100% bonus XP?
As I said in a previous comment, I'm not denying that the 70-80 hour estimate was probably pretty far off. But we also won't know just how far until the Rift is over and we can actually look at the data and evaluate it. Leaving the time estimate aside, the Rift itself was clearly carefully designed with a lot of factors taken into account. And maybe they missed the mark somewhat. But until the Rift is over, we can't possibly know with very much accuracy whether it was too much for "casual" players or not, because we haven't finished testing it.
And this thread isn't really about people who only play an hour a day. The OP seems to be trying to suggest that they deserve to be able to complete the entire Rift, even though they have, by their own choice, not played the game in the last month.
-

The best place to look is the "News" category. That's where all official announcements get posted. https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/news
If you're not on mobile, there's also a Twitter feed at the bottom of the sidebar where all the latest tweets from the Dead By Daylight team appear (although usually any important information that they tweet will also be shared in a banner at the top of the forums).
If you're looking specifically for the release date of the next chapter, it's been officially confirmed that it will release on December 3rd. Based on past patterns, the release will most likely happen at 11am ET (10.5 hours from now) or soon thereafter depending on which platform you're on.

It should, yeah. The only requirements to complete the challenge are that you have Unnerving Presence equipped, and that no Exit Gates get opened. It doesn't specify sacrifices or anything like that so a mori should be perfectly fine. Try it and let us know how it works out!
-
I'm not a console player, but I do know that the devs are looking into improving controller sensitivity, which would imply that even the highest sensitivity possible right now is not sensitive enough. So you could probably safely push yours up to the maximum.
That said, it's really just a matter of personal preference whatever platform you're on. Try out different settings, and see what works for you.
-
They should stack, yes.
Based on the item descriptions, my guess would be that the points are awarded during the game rather than postgame, which would mean that they are capped at the category limit, which in the case of great skill checks is 150 points. So basically, all the add-ons would do is help you to reach the cap faster.
-
No, you would have to buy the killer and the outfit separately. You can purchase cosmetics for a character before buying the character themselves, but you won't be able to use the outfit until after you have unlocked the character.

All the challenges in the tomes in all four levels give 350 fragments, the rift needs 690(the first tier is automatically unlocked)
So to unlock the rest of the rift you need to farm 340 fragments by exp.
1 fragment = 800 exp
10 fragments = 1 tier
8000 exp = 1 tier
You get around 600 exp ( hard capped ) per match with the emblems. So to unlock one tier you need to play about 13 games.
Since you will unlock 35 tiers by completing the challenges ( in all four levels) you need 34 tiers to unlock by exp.
34x13 = 442 games on average
The math says otherwise.
13 games for a single tier bruh give me a break
You seem to be forgetting that you have to play games in order to complete challenges. The majority of that XP you just calculated will be earned organically while working your way through the Tome.
-
Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't actually work like that. The developers don't nerf or buff things just because they're requested a lot. Player complaints may point towards a problem, but there's a lot more that goes into balancing decisions than just "the players said this so now we have to".

That's if you buy every single item and use every single item. There are plenty of people like me that don't like the cosmetics very much and won't use them if they aren't exclusive. So the value isn't there if you don't use them. I can buy all the cosmetics in the store that I actually like and will actively use for around the same price as a rift pass. There's also a very strong case against them to get sued if they make the cosmetics non-exclusive. They have always advertised the rift as "time-exclusive rewards" and it was heavily implied early on that it would apply to all cosmetics. I had never heard about them adding the cosmetics to the store and that wasn't listed on the pass or news/anything else that I could see. (By that I mean on anything in game that would let people know that only the charms are exclusive and not the stuff people actually care about.) It wouldn't be a 100% win suit like the Overwatch one in the beginning, but people could make a strong case against them if they wanted to sue over it.
If you don't consider the Rift Pass valuable and would rather purchase the cosmetics you want from the Store later, that's totally up to you. That's why the pass is optional. Personally, I consider it great value and am planning to buy it once I reach tier 70, and I'm sure many others feel the same way.
Also, no one would have a case to sue. There was no deception here. They have said since before the Archives were even released that the exclusives would become available in the Store at some stage after their respective Rift has ended.
This is from "The Archives" page on the official website: "If you missed some rewards in The Rift, most of them will eventually be available in our in-game store after a minimum period of 6 months."
This is from the "Welcome to the Archives" blog post, also on the official website, which was published about a month before the release of the first Archives: "Most rewards will be exclusively available via The Archives for a period of time and released into the Store at least 6 months after their Rift has ended."
And this is a quote from a post I made which summarised everything that was said in the October 31 Dev Stream (also before the release of the Archives). The quote is not directly from the stream, but the information comes straight from the devs: "Items on each Rift will become available in the store around one year after their respective Rift closes. Seasonal items, like Halloween skins, will return to the store during the next relevant holiday season. It is still being discussed whether these items will be available for shards or just cells."

The math still stands, having to play for 4 hours a day is what the majority realty can't do including me. It was said that the rift would be catered toward the casual audience and not the hardcore grinders that play this game non-stop and then say that the rift is fine
A lot of my games are filed with people without the pass and many have said to me that the rift is too grindy for them
Except you don't have to play for 4 hours a day. You don't even have to play 7 games a day, because you don't need to grind out one tier every day to finish the Rift. You can complete half of Level 1 in 4 hours and that alone will give you three or four Rift tiers easily. All you need to do is complete all the challenges, and maybe play a few extra games beyond that to grind out the last few tiers. There are many people in this thread alone who also have busy lives with a lot of commitments, and are doing fine, because they have been playing steadily since the start.
My brother started playing two weeks ago - he only has an hour or two to play after work, and he's already at tier 30, just because he's been playing consistently and doing challenges. As many others have pointed out, you can't take a month-long break from these things and expect to still be able to complete the entire track by playing a few hours here and there. The grind is not as bad as you're making it out to be, but as I said before, not everyone is going to be able to complete it and that's okay. "Casual players" doesn't mean "all players".
-
As @Sinner5Gonn4Sin helpfully pointed out, the best tactic is to just power through. Hit good skill checks and take the penalty if you can't hit the great ones reliably. Working on a generator on your own can also help.
Many people, when a generator is regressed due to Ruin, stand up for a second or two to "wait out" the pause on progress and then go back to the generator. Because they can't get any repairs done in that time anyway, they do this to avoid getting a skillcheck and regressing the generator even further.
If you find that RNG is not on your side, the obvious solution is, of course, to find and cleanse the totem. A perk like Small Game may help here, but the most reliable method for finding totems is to bring a Rainbow Map, or just a normal Map with the Red Twine add-on, which allows you to track the killer's belongings (including totems).

That's really dumb and will hurt the sales a lot. Unless the prices of the cosmetics are super inflated in the store, it won't be worth getting a battle pass. For example, i'm at rank 39 on my pass atm. There are 11 cosmetics (not including charms) left for me to get. I would estimate the cost of all those items to be about $29. It would cost me slightly more than that to just buy out the rest of the pass for $31. Of those cosmetics I would only buy 1-3 of them, which is about the same price as the pass, if not cheaper. No one is going to care enough about having to get a cosmetic RIGHT NOW, especially since none of the cosmetics are exceptional. They would have to heavily improve the charms for a pass to be worth it.
The pass is still very much worth it, financially. The cosmetics in the store will probably be at the normal prices for their rarity - so "very rare" outfits from the Rift will be 1080 cells in the Store, for example. By completing the Rift, we're still getting hundreds of dollars worth (in terms of Store prices) of cosmetics for $10. It's objectively a great bargain from a monetary perspective.
I believe the idea behind putting them in the Store is part of their movement away from exclusive cosmetics in general - they don't want new players who join in the future to feel like they missed out, so the devs want to give those players an option to still obtain the same cosmetics if they wish, but those who complete the Rift now still get the best end of the deal by far.

I never really considered playing the game after challenges were finished to be "grinding". To me...it was just the reason why I hop on DBD to begin with...to play the game. Really wish more people would get that and stop thinking of playing the game they enjoy as a job or chore.
I mean, I totally agree. That's why I'm as far along the Rift as I am, because I just play normally when I'm not doing challenges and enjoy the game just as much. I phrased it that way not because it was how I personally felt, but because it's how the OP and presumably a few other people feel about the Rift. I felt that explaining why it may feel so grindy might be more helpful than just flat-out telling him he's wrong.

I wouldn't. I'm only playing the game again because of the rift. I stopped playing because the game had zero progression system (no i'm not counting bloodpoints and perks as progression). I took a break a week or two after the anniversary stream when it was announced and didn't play again until the rift launched. I would very likely not touch the game again if they took it out and didn't replace it with a similar progression system.
Personally, I totally agree with you about exclusives, but they did say from the start that that was what's going to happen with the Rift. All the cosmetics, with the exception of the charms, will appear in the Store eventually, but it won't be for at least six months after the Rift ends.

This isnt really "nerfing" anything, just thought it odd a challenge in lvl 2 was harder than its lvl 3 variant.
Originally the challenges were supposed to increase in difficulty - as you may know the Level 3 one was originally 25 unhooks until people complained that it was too hard. Why they reduced it to 10 and not 15 like the Level 2 version I'm not sure, but perhaps it was because of the bottleneck situation.

Fun fact, originally survivors were supposed to be able to climb things. That's why there's no collision on the shack roof, and a hole through which you can drop down into the shack. They decided against it, though I'm not sure of the exact reason - perhaps because they didn't want survivors to have the ability to get out of reach of the killer.
-
The Rift is even more grindy now than it was, and it's a direct consequence of player complaints.
The devs even warned us of that when they changed the challenges to make them easier.
Originally, the challenges were designed at a certain difficulty level such that they would take a certain amount of time to complete, meaning that between the challenges and the passive XP gained while playing the game in pursuit of challenges, most people should be able to complete the Rift without having to grind extra games in between.
But because people complained that the challenges were too difficult, they've been made easier, so now the Rift is overall even more grindy than it was before.
The original 70-80 hour estimate does seem to be pretty far off, admittedly, but a significant proportion of players seem to be on track to complete the Rift all the same. Remember we're not even halfway through, and we won't know the full story until it's over. Also remember that "completable for the average player" is not the same as "completable for every player". Mathematically, it means that probably 40% of players will not be able to complete the Rift without buying progress.

I don't think anyone but the devs will be able to tell you when general performance improvements are planned for consoles. And they probably won't tell you either until they make an official announcement about it.
Regarding the dedicated servers, I would guess that they will be rolled out to consoles once they officially go live on PC. Currently, while they are active on PC, they are still in the testing phase and being constantly changed and updated. Once all the kinks have been ironed out, then, I imagine, it will be time for an official release across all platforms.
There is no real estimate as to when this will be, so I wouldn't get your hopes up expecting them at any particular time until an official announcement is made on the subject.

@vossler25 Just because of my rank doesnt mean its not a game for me lol.
And yeah @Fibijean id def take some tips been practicing like crazy. Im better than i used to be ill say that.
Sorry for the delay - it was quite late at night where I live and I had to sleep!
Sounds like you've got the right attitude, which suggests to me that this is the game for you 😁
As I mentioned earlier, the best way to rank up is to understand how the emblem system works and what's going to get you points there. There are four categories, and to rank up from rank 17 you need a minimum of 1 bronze and 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 gold, 2 bronze and 2 iridescent, or 3 silver and 1 iridescent emblem.
You will receive more emblem points for doing actions solo, so it's best to avoid cooperative heals or repairs where possible.
The easiest category to do well in is Benevolence. Unhooking two survivors safely and healing at least one of them will grant you an Iridescent emblem in Benevolence, as long as no one dies without being rescued (which will lose you Benevolence points). Borrowed Time and We'll Make It are excellent perks to use here.
Unbroken is an easy category to get a Gold or Silver in. For a Gold Unbroken emblem, you simply need to survive the trial. You will be awarded a Silver Unbroken emblem if you are killed or sacrificed having survived for longer than 9 minutes.
The Evader emblem is the hardest to do well in, but you will usually get at least a Bronze in this category in a typical trial, as long as you are able to avoid the killer generally and do not get downed immediately when he finds you. You also get significant progress in this category if you manage to stun the killer with a pallet - three pallet stuns should guarantee you at least a Bronze in this category.
I would advise you to generally aim for a Gold in the Lightbringer category. This can be achieved by repairing two full generators, or by repairing one full generator and cleansing all the totems, or by repairing a generator and a half and cleansing two dull totems. Opening an Exit Gate will also give you points in this category. However, as long as you survive the trial and achieve Gold Unbroken, a Silver Lightbringer emblem is also acceptable, and for that you only need to repair one full generator solo.
If you can achieve Iridescent Benevolent, Silver/Gold Unbroken, Silver/Gold Lightbringer and Bronze Evader in at least some of your games, you should be able to gradually rank up to green ranks. Even if you don't do that well all the time, in order to safety pip, you will need a Silver in at least two and probably three categories, which shouldn't be too difficult to achieve.
You can find more information about the emblem system and how it works on the official wiki here: https://deadbydaylight.gamepedia.com/Emblems
As for more general tips, without watching you play there's not much I can tell you specifically, but YouTube or Twitch is your thing, watching gameplay videos by good survivors will definitely be helpful in learning how to improve your own skills - what to prioritise, when is a good time to perform certain actions, how to outrun the killer, etc.
I'll also give you a link to my own guide here on the forums. It was written with brand new players in mind, which I know you're not, but there still may be one or two pieces of information in there that will prove useful. https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/86207/how-not-to-be-dead-by-daylight-surviving-a-night-in-the-entitys-realm#latest

Hey uhhh, no-mend legion is a challenge you do as a survivor. It has nothing to do with being legion, you just try to manage your mending timer by being in different states where the bar doesn't decay
Good to know. That's why I asked!

I'd actually say MOST DC because they are sore losers. This isn't something new to games. Gears 5 banned several players FOR TWO YEARS because they were quitting like 80% of their ranked games when they started losing. While I find that a bit extreme, at the same time people like this just need to suck it up and take the L.
Literally 90% of the time when someone DC's when I'm killer it's from being found or chased first. Then another 5% play out the game until they are just about to die, then they DC to save their items (which normally you don't get to keep but they do a special trick I'm not going to explain here). 4% DC to give the last one hatch. The last 1% DC because I had Iri Heads or Prayer Beads or something.
So pretty much in every case, someone is being a sore loser. "Oh my gawd, the killer is using something OP/unbalanced. Oh no, I got Haddonfield as killer." Yea get over it. That's part of the game. Do we need better balance? Sure, won't deny that. But to quit for that reason is being a sore loser plain and simple. It's gross how often some people DC and the reasons they DC.
I absolutely agree. I was trying to be charitable by using the word "some" 😋

Which is why the timer is incremental. So that when things happen you cant control, you dont get permanent banned.
Exactly.
