Remember that the "Decisive Light" challenge doesn't actually require you to save your teammate - it just requires you to blind the killer while they are carrying someone. This means that you can blind them during the pickup animation, in which case you probably won't save your teammate but you will get the challenge.
So I would say hide behind a rock or something and run out and shine it in their face until the beam widens as soon as they start to pick the person up, then run away quickly. If they're facing the wrong way, or if they look around and find you before picking up your teammate, there's not a lot you can do. Just keep trying, and eventually you'll find yourself in the right place at the right time. It took me about half a dozen games to get that challenge - it's definitely one of the harder ones in the Tome, but it's absolutely doable.

As far as anyone knows, this isn't something that's being planned to be implemented for the time being.
If you'd like to request the feature, the best place to do so is in the Feedback and Suggestions section of the forum.

It is a game of the year 2016 and just now worry about it? Every change in the game you think it was to improve it? Create a new game with dedicated servers when the players of your main game yelled at it, I think it is certainly a lack of interest in the player.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/882410#Comment_882410
It makes sense to you a button that says "disconnect" and punish you for using it? I do not say that it is a problem, I say that clearly they only try to blame the players and they are not responsible that if someone disconnects for problem in their game.
I create a game with many problems and I don't force you to play it, but I punish you if you stop playing it for all the problems that the game has π€... vote me for GOTY pls π€£
Yes. Naturally, every change a game developer makes to their game would be in the name of improving it. Do you really think a developer would try to sabotage their own game?
The dedicated servers were introduced because the community begged for them for months. And yes, they're still far from perfect, but they're better than they were two months ago, which shows that they are being worked on and improved.

Ah, no worries about that, I'm already really appreciative you took some time out of your day to read all this and help, thanks a bunch!
But yeah, I guess I'll just wait for a reply from a dev before the end of the sales, otherwise I'll play it safe and taste it out with a small sum. If it comes to that I'll send the results here so that anyone with the same problem in the future will have a definitive answer.
Sounds like a plan. Everyone in the US and Canada (including the devs) will be coming on around this time, so hopefully you'll get the answer you need!

Unfortunately not. The Tome and the Rift are tied together in that regard. Rift Fragments earned from doing Tome challenges can only be used to progress in the associated Rift.
When the Rift expires, all the challenges in the Tome will remain open and completable, and you will still be able to earn rewards from them (bloodpoints, lore fragments, level completion charms) with the exception of Rift Fragments, which you will no longer be able to earn by any means once the Rift closes.
When a new Rift opens, you will be able to earn Rift Fragments once again through XP, and also through completing challenges in the Tome that will be released alongside that Rift.
Additionally, once you complete the current Rift, even if the Rift is still open, you won't be able to earn additional Rift Fragments through completing the challenges in the current Tome.

I agree to be punished, but I do not agree to blame the player, if the player leaves to ruin another's game is fine the ban, but if a player disconnects because the problem is in the game I think it is unfair , I do not know if I explain myself well, but I am not against the ban, I am against not solving the problems that lead to disconnection. If you create a game that is malfunctioning and will punish people for disconnection then you were simply washing your hands and living off the guilt that your game does not work well. I think the developers would first have to fix their game and that way nobody would disconnect. The only thing I see is that they create new content to make money but they don't do anything to solve the problems, I don't think it's a lack of talent, it's definitely a lack of interest, instead of solving the problems they just punish people for the mistakes of their game. The Overkill company almost ended up in bankruptcy for creating a very poor quality game and its CEO blamed the players for not telling them what they really wanted. I feel that the same thing is happening in DBD, they created a new game to earn more revenue and never worried about putting servers in DBD. Now that their secondary game is a failure, they only look for easy alternatives for people to be punished because their game is malfunctioning.
I don't think it's really fair to say that all they do is release new content and don't try to improve the health of the game. It's possible they're not focusing as much on health or improving as fast as would be ideal, but they are definitely working on it - as evidenced by the dozens and dozens of balance changes and bug fixes in every single set of patch notes they release.

I see. I just got that impression from the fact that you said you were having trouble progressing beyond grey ranks. The offer still stands, though - if you'd like some tips to help, feel free to ask.
Depending on how long your hiatus was, it's possible that part of the problem you're having is a lack of understanding of the emblem system. Knowing how it works and how to get points in it is a huge help when trying to rank up.

Which is why I can only buy Auric Cells from the EU PS Store, but I'm dubious on doing it because of the aforementionned worries.
There's no immediate hurry, but I figured I could buy Nancy, Steve and Demo with Auric Cells during the Black Friday sales, which will stop on the 5th. I was hoping I could get them cheaper while I'm also grabbing the Rift Pass, but that's all useless if I can't get ACs to begin with.
Ah, I see. Well, you've got a day or two to wait for a reply, and if that fails then you might just have to test it. You can buy a small pack to start with just to see if it will work. Worst case scenario, you waste about $5, which still sucks but isn't the end of the world, and at least then you'll know for sure.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful π Hopefully a dev or someone in the same situation will arrive before you have to resort to testing it yourself.

I know! I feel so terrible doing the flashlight challenges because I know I'm being a huge pain in the killer's butt. I really wish I could just say, "I'm so sorry, I really just want my challenge, please don't tunnel me!" Similar feeling to when I had to use OoO for Adept Laurie.

I can understand the frustration, but the Endgame Collapse exists for a very good reason. The time limit was meant to add more pressure to the endgame for survivors, and prevent situations in which survivors could hold the game hostage by refusing to leave. The EGC hasn't removed the survivors' chance of escaping as the last one left alive, it's simply reduced it, but it's also eradicated hatch standoffs which is a good thing.
You seem like a fairly new player. If you would like any tips on how to improve your gameplay and move up the ranks, feel free to ask, because it's true that the game is a lot more difficult at yellow and grey ranks, particularly for survivors. If you can persevere enough to improve your skills to green rank level, you'll probably have a much better time.

I saw it as once Archie found out Evan didn't tell him about the Union and his drawings, that was what made him snap. It says in Trapper's official lore "When Archie MacMillan finally snapped, Evan became his enforcer in what would become known as the worst mass murder in modern history."
I say this because instead of hitting Evan like usual, Archie simply walks away, as said in the final entry for BBG.
As for the cinematic, I saw it as Archie simply beating a worker to show Evan a lesson, but now am leaning more towards the dream idea presented here. We see Evan's knuckles are bandaged when he wakes up, and see that as projecting his father onto himself, implying he beat the worker just like his father would.
It also infers to this by having Evan look at a picture of himself and his father, implying that he feels he is becoming more and more like his father. Maybe the dream gave Evan the idea to cave in the mine?
We also know that Evan served Archie dearly, "Becoming his enforcer in what would be known as the worst mass murder in modern history."
A common theory I see is that Evan took Archie's place as boss of the mines as he became sicker and weaker, before eventually abandoning him, seeing him as too weak to have a place in the mines, weak like the maggots he used to rule over, and the mine is no place for maggots.
I like your theory about Archie's death - that's another compelling one I hadn't considered.

I've wrote this is a similar discussion, but the more people who see it, the better.
I have no problem punishing people who DC from games and intentionally ruin the game experience for their teammates. However, there are people out there, and I'm one of them, who constantly get kicked from games and then get an update rank error. This has been happening to me since the Stranger Things DLC with no fix since then. 7/10 games are completely unplayable. I lose my pips, any items I had and get zero bloodpoints. Even if I escape the trial, I get this error and it shows I DC'd in endgame chat. It's got so bad I just play killer now because playing survivor is like a toothache. And now, with this new implementation, not only will I lose everything, I will also get banned? This is also happening to many other people from what I see in the bug report forum. And that's just the people who are voicing their concern. How many people are affected that have no idea about this forum?
If you were going to get banned for it, you already would have. That's how the current DC system works.
All the new system does is make sure the other players in the game aren't punished so much for you disconnecting, and stops people who DC from rejoining queues straight away (although it's unclear whether this will apply to everyone who disconnects from a game, or only those who do it deliberately using the "Leave Game" button, so it's possible you have nothing to worry about anyway).

I've bought every non-licensed characters with Iridescent Shards, as well as some cosmetics, but otherwise nothing, since I can't get Auric Cells nor buy them from the in-game store (It says there's no content here when I go to the tab for it), they're only available in the PS Store, mine being EU.
My guess is that the Auric Cell Packs the game offers are those for the US version of the game that are in the US store, however since my account is EU, I don't have access to it, so it's not really all that helpful.
I guess the only way to check it out and try it would be to buy it myself, but the idea of potentially wasting money irks me, and if so that would mean that I just wouldn't have any way to access that content.
If you go to buy auric cells, what currency are the prices in? That could give you another clue.
I would wait a while to see if Peanits responds before spending any money. There's no burning hurry, right?

To be fair it is not a bad thing ... For me it is really strange that they did not release another PTB with all the changes because there have to be changes. There were some major issues with the new perks of the killer. It is really strange they gonna change them and just release it like that without any testing ... What if there are still problems... I just don't like it. They make so many changes in a single patch and we don't even have the final notes.
If there are still significant problems, they'll probably do something about them in a follow-up hotfix. They never just release a chapter and then wash their hands of it - they're always looking to see how the community responds and what feedback they get every time they put out an update.
-
Some people DC because of problems with the game.
Others DC because they're sore losers.
Fixing the balance issues will only solve the problem for one of the above groups.
There are definitely a lot of changes that need to be made to the game to improve player experience overall, but DC punishments definitely still need to be a thing.
-
There is only one correct answer.
-
I wouldn't say it's too weak as it is. You can get an 18-27% speed penalty using it, which is a sizeable amount. And the obsession's buff is fairly small, they only get a bonus to altruism which is not that bad.
If it weren't an obsession perk, it would just be another flat slowdown perk, which seems pretty boring to me. All Michael's perks are designed around the obsession mechanic because that's his character. It just wouldn't feel right to remove that, in my opinion.

Trickle down balance sort of requires a more widespread competitive culture in the given game, which DBD lacks.
It's also a game with a lot of things to keep in mind while balancing. Like the whole 1v1 / 1v4 aspect, leaning "too far" in either direction can be a bad thing. Original Legion was balanced from a data-driven 1v4 standpoint because Legion wasn't always that good at killing all the survivors while playing the moonwalking/franks mixtape singleplayer game, but basically took the entire 1v1 aspect of the game and threw it in the trash. A lot of perks and items are balanced from a 1v1 viewpoint but get more powerful in a very non-linear way when stacked by several survivors.
To even attempt to go for a hardcore trickle down balancing approach the devs would basically have to declare a "correct way to play the game" and balance around that. Balance around SWF or SWF-tier information and communication and players that play solo or don't want to communicate with others get left behind, balance around solo and you run into the impossibility of actually doing anything about SWF advantages. DBD is a game people play in all sorts of ways. Solo and SWF, aggressive and "immersed", altruistic and egoistic, defensive killer play or constantly getting into new chases, and all the different playstyles different killers specialize in. And while someone's playstyle might attract criticism from those that enjoy a different one, they're all valid and not "incorrect" ways to play the game.
Totally agree. The fact that you can have a bunch of different builds and playstyles that are all at least somewhat viable is one of my favourite things about DBD, and I would hate it if they threw all that out the window in favour of perfect balance.
-
That would be cool.
Side note, but I have a vague recollection that there used to be character portraits or something in the endgame screen that made it easier to identify who was playing which character... although it's so faint that it might just as easily have been a dream I had.

I'm mostly wondering since I know for a fact that buying DLCs from a different region than the game doesn't make them available.
Auric Cells could work differently for all I know, but I couldn't find anything covering that specific issue, so I wanted to be cautious and see if anyone ever had that problem before, didn't wanna bother a dev right away for this.
I could try it for myself but I don't wanna risk losing money, and if it doesn't work, I'm unsure how I'd even be able to acquire Auric Cells at all, making the Black Friday sales and the Rift Pass for the archive completely unavailable to me.
That's fair enough. I feel like auric cells would be different, since it would be more like buying something in the ingame Store than buying a DLC. Come to think of it, have you bought anything in the ingame Store before? Because that might give you a clue about the auric cells.
Don't worry too much about bothering Peanits - He is very busy, but if he has the time to spare I'm sure he'll be happy to help.
-
The devs aren't supporting any particular build or playstyle. The only thing they "support", if you want to call it that, is hooking people in the basement using Monstrous Shrine. And there's nothing at all wrong with that.
Yes, some people are using camping builds to complete the challenge. Many others, myself included, are not. Whether or not camping is even a bad thing is a completely separate discussion, so I won't go into it now, but my point is there are many ways to complete that challenge. It doesn't force anyone to do anything. So the fact that some people are using optimal and perhaps unfun tactics for it is the responsibility of those particular players, not the developers.
-
Well, it wasn't competition when it first released on the Discord store, but perhaps they've made some changes since then. I agree, however, that some serious competition would probably be good for both games, as it would spur them on to strive to be better than one another.

December 3rd was officially confirmed as the release date on BHVR's Twitter (why they didn't announce it on the Dead By Daylight Twitter I'm not sure).
It's likely, based on past patterns, that the release will be at 11am ET or soon thereafter, depending on what platform you're on, though the time itself hasn't been officially announced.

The chapter has been officially confirmed for release on December 3rd. Based off past patterns, it will almost certainly release at 11am ET, or soon thereafter depending on your platform, which is about 27.5 hours from now if my maths is correct.

The Deathgarden mask is exclusive to players who own both Deathgarden and Dead By Daylight. Since Deathgarden isn't available on consoles, the mask is currently available only to PC users.
-
I can't confirm one way or the other, but I don't see why it wouldn't be. I would imagine that the auric cells would still be added to the account in the same way, they would just be paid for using euros (or whatever your country's currency is) instead of USD.
Perhaps a developer would be able to confirm this for you, though, because it doesn't seem like something anyone but the devs would really know for sure unless they've personally experienced the same situation. @Peanits

You can get Hallowed Blight at any time. I'm not really sure what @Fibijean means? Maybe that you can only unlock them through gameplay for a limited time? But the Rift is the same way, in that regard. Once the Rift closes, those cosmetics can no longer be earned for free (or for what comes out to be a pretty reduced price of 1000 AC in the case of the Premium track.)
Yes, you're correct. Had a bit of a brain fart there. I got the fact that they were recently made available to purchase with serum again confused and thought that they were recently made available to purchase again, period. I apologise for the confusion.
In that case, I'm not really sure what the logic is behind not making Rift outfits a special colour. Possibly because they're neither exclusive nor event-themed? Or probably because some of the outfits are more "special" than others (for example, some are just recolours of cosmetics which are already in the store) so they want to be able to reflect that with the rarity. Hard to say, really.

Probably the backround.
Also don't last year hallowed blight cosmetics still have that yellow-ish backround even tho they can be bought at any time?
This would just help say which cosmetics were in the rift
Yes, but again, those are different because they can't be bought at any time, only during the Halloween season (which this year is running rather long because of the serum being connected to the Rift).
I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just that perhaps there's a reason for it not being that way, because the Rift cosmetics are not and have never been exclusive, unlike all the other examples that have been brought up.

change your build and playstyle. do some wacky challenges. Have you tried no mend legion? Never mend against a legion. Do pallet toss against Huntress. Do hide and seek with Pig and yeet into random lockers to distract.
Is there a difference between no mend Legion and infinite mend Legion? Because using the latter is a bannable offence, so I wouldn't recommend it to people.

Well think about it this way.
You had a game as killer. You are pissed off you lost. You go to the report screen. You see "body block". How often do you think people read the rest? To some just saying "body block" would be enough. If those fabled words weren't there then this isn't an issue. People are sneaky and will "play dumb" to avoid false reporting penalties, or willfully ignore it to satisfy their ego ("I didn't lose because they outplayed me, I lost because they cheated and the words are right there"). That's kind of how I'm looking at the situation.
@TragicSolitude Gets it. π
Yeah, I get it. I'd be happy with using a different term for it, I'm just not convinced that "soft locking" is the right one to use. I've never heard of it before, but from what I gather from other people's comments, it may be problematic because of other connotations it holds in gaming in general. I just looked it up, and from what I can tell, soft locking isn't usually something a player does to another player, it's something a player experiences as a result of design flaws in the game. So instead of having a bunch of threads about whether bodyblocking is bannable, we'd have a bunch of threads about why soft locking is even a reportable offence in the first place. I'm not sure it would really solve the problem.
Again, I'm all for having a different term to describe bannable bodyblocking for clarity's sake. I said so in my first comment on this thread. I just don't think, having read up on the term a bit more, that "soft locking" is the correct phrase to use in this scenario, so I came up with an alternative suggestion. If anyone comes up with something that's better than either of our ideas, I'd be very glad to hear it.

I would love longer queue time, instead of getting theses stupid matchmaking. I just went full toxic on my last game, hooking one in the basement after a too long chase, he was clearly a high rank... now the Game is finish and he was 6.... , got 6-8-8-9 and im 13.... there is no logic there lol
Im glad i play dirty on this one i hook 2 in basement and camp them. I totaly hate that but man... its been 7 game in a row that i am match again rank 6 to 8 at least 3 of them each game.
As for creating a new account, like i said, it might not be an issue on PC because you have to pay for the game, but its not the same on console i can create as many account as i want, as long as i have one with online subscribtion. i will have access to the game i bough once. So yes thats an issue on Console.
Yes its also getting late here, around 1-2am so im probably having hard time with the amount of players around me
It's fair enough for you to prefer significantly longer queue times and better matchmaking, but I suspect that you would be in the minority there.
If smurf accounts are truly an issue on consoles, I agree that needs to be addressed. But again, SWF is not the problem. People who go out of their way to make smurf accounts, most of the time, do it so that they can go against low-ranked killers. This is equally the case whether they're playing solo or with other low ranks in SWF. Putting limitations on SWF isn't the answer. If anything, such a system would only encourage people to make smurf accounts so that they are able to play with their low-ranked friends, instead of just sticking to their main account as the majority of players do currently.

See but that's still not specific enough. If the killer happens to stand at a pallet or window such that the survivor can't use it, people would just assume that is bannable.
This is why I say it's just easier to give it it's own term. Less confusion with what is allowed (since most body blocking is allowed). "Soft lock" suggests being stuck in a place, which is really the main requirement for body blocking to go from allowed to banned. It honestly just makes life easier if you can refer to the entire situation in a single term, instead of explaining the entire situation each time. Simple is better, and having the whole explanation doesn't seem simple to me.
Semantics are very important with stuff like this when the line for what is and is not acceptable is paper thin. Again, refer to my murder V manslaughter argument. At the end of the day you killed someone. Period. But how exactly it happened changes a lot.
It's only two more words. I wouldn't call that complicated.
I understand your point perfectly well, but as I said, I think it's essentially a matter of simple differences in opinion at this stage, and there's not much to be gained by rehashing the same points.
-
@thesuicidefox said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/881643#Comment_881643
Possibly, but we can literally side step all of this by using a new term for specifically this action. Essentially, if you replace the words "body blocking" with "soft locking" or whatever new term we come up with that IMMEDIATELY negates a large chunk of false complaints because someone won't see doing X as the same as doing Y. Worst case scenario is someone doesn't know what "soft lock" means and looks it up as it relates to DBD. They will be less likely to make a false report, either intentionally or unintentionally, because we avoid using the blanket term "body block".
I still think that simply listing "body blocking a survivor" instead of just "body blocking" as a bannable offence will achieve the same effect with possibly less confusion, but I don't think quibbling over semantics is going to get us very far. The important part is, we're all agreed that some additional clarification is necessary, and based on what Mandy said we may be getting exactly that in the near future.

True, but the same could be said for the event cosmetics. Iβm okay with rift-born cosmetics being a different color when they show up in the store. It will help new people or non-rift players identify what they missed out on.
I'm not sure what you mean about the same being said of the event cosmetics. They have the ultra-rare background because, at the time of their release, they were planned to be exclusive and therefore ultra-rare. The devs just changed their mind when it came to exclusives. The Rift cosmetics were never intended to be exclusive to the Rift.
Also, when you say you want them to be a different colour in the store, do you mean the outfits themselves or just the background on the icons?

"If a person won't read the rules and is misinformed then why would a name change for an action make them suddenly do so?"
Because then they don't conflate one thing that is permitted with another thing that is bannable, when they are very similar but distinctly different.
If we assume no one reads the rules, if you use body block in both instances, it can lead to someone wrongly believing either both are allowed or both are bannable. This is evidenced by how often these threads pop up where someone cites the rules as saying "body blocking". Several people have done so in this exact thread. If they were two separate things, even if they share a mechanic, there would be less of this.
"I'll give an example."
You examples are flawed because we are not talking about a sweeping change to the entire concept of body blocking. We are talking about giving this specific instance of body blocking, the one that is banned, it's own term.
"All I am saying is the term soft lock isn't very logical to use as imo its a very generic term which had very broad meanings and would take a lot of time to educate people into using and then those that know the term start to use it for all glitches and bugs causing more confusion."
Again it's not about educating people. That is a different problem altogether. This is about preventing cross contamination if you could call it that. It's for those players that do not know the exact rules that may hear about body blocking and bannable offenses from unreliable sources. All the rules need to state is "soft locking is bannable". If the rule says "body blocking is bannable" that leads to people automatically assuming any form of body blocking is bannable.
"Look I get you like the idea and are very invested in it but I won't agree."
You don't have to agree with the name, I've said this. But it's clear you don't seem to understand the concept. You claim you do, but if you did you wouldn't be arguing with me. This is a very straightforward and simple idea that isn't at all about what you argue it's about. It's about the separation of one act from another. Hence my murder V manslaughter point. In either case you are still killing another person, but the context in which is happens makes a huge difference.

Your gaming experience and DBD experience is irrelevant here, because I'm referring to how often someone comes to this forum and says something to the extent of "a survivor body blocked me as I was carrying another survivor, please ban them". Hence why I point out your low forum post count because you likely haven't been here long enough to see how often this issue pops up.
Furthermore your entire argument is irrelevant because we are not talking about whether or not trapping someone in a corner is bannable. It is. The rules say this. The devs have said this. A mod said this in this exact thread. The point of this thread is as I state above; to clarify the specific instance of what is exactly bannable by giving it it's own term that cannot be confused with similar actions that are NOT bannable.

Possibly. I don't have the game open, and it may be worded this way on the report screen, but I definitely recall the devs making these exact statements elsewhere and it doesn't help. We need a separate term to define the bannable form of body blocking so that there is 0 way for someone to assume permitted body blocking is also bannable.
I think the only reason it hasn't helped is because most people don't go looking to see what the devs have to say about it before they report someone. They just go off what is written in-game. I suspect that a lot of the problem with false complaints and reports along these lines would be solved if there were simply more written clarity in the post-match report screen.

im not sure i understand what you mean by 5, five when there is only 4 survivor, but i get what you mean. 7-7-717 and killer 7 is much easier then 7-7-7-7 and killer 7. The issue right now my last game i got 8-8-8-19. On console its super easy to create an account and exploit this, so the 19 is not a 19, he is a damn 8 too. so its no longer 8-8-819 again a 13 but its 4x8 againts 13. Even ifthe 19 where ligit. it still make no sense to have 3x8 againts a 13. The higher rank player should determine the killer rank. an not an avg. Cause right now its just not fun for anyone. I got some of the 6-7-8 who message me afer the game so say sorry for that stupid match making we dont even know the 17.
You want to SWF, fine but the best in your group should determine the killers level.
I got the point of restriction is not super good for this game as there is already restriction in it and also there is only one mode... rank. There is no casual game other then customs. So its hard to restrict the game more.
Yes, the numbers were my mistake, sorry for the confusion. I've edited my comment to reflect it.
Smurf accounts are a possibility, but not really a problem in DBD, because the game costs $10-20 to purchase. There aren't very many people who would spend extra money on a game just to be a lower rank, so it's not really a widespread enough occurrence for it to be a good idea to make balance changes around it.
And what you described is exactly how matchmaking with SWF already works. It used to be based on the average of players' ranks, but it was recently changed to match with killers according to the rank of the highest-ranked player in the group.
As you mentioned yourself, half the time outliers in ranks aren't even part of a SWF group. It sounds like the problem you have is really with the matchmaking system overall, and I can understand that, but SWF isn't really the issue there. It's basically just a matter of DBD not having a large enough playerbase to support consistently accurate matchmaking without absurdly long queue times.
