if they actually asked people to buy icon packs I don't think they would let people download others fan-made, waste of work and time by the team and money invested for the artists bhvr hired, just to later let people download them externally, so that would lead into making the custom icons banable

They might, or they might not. In that case, it would be banning the custom icons that would be the problem, not making their own available for purchase.

monetizing something which is already free maybe?

    it would be like:

-community: so we spent hours making new icons for the game

-bhvr: aight now pay for it

But it's not like they're stopping people from using the free customised ones. They could just create their own "official" icon packs and sell them in the Store for shards, with the advantage being that they're safer (that is, there's not even a slight risk of EAC detecting them as foreign files) and also (possibly) better quality. I'd buy them, because I don't like any of the ones I've seen available for free. The only problem I can see is that it might not be lucrative enough to be worth the effort, but that's an issue of resource management, not exploitation.

  • Yeah, one of the supermarket chains in my area recently lifted their restrictions on the amount of toilet paper and cleaning products that people were allowed to buy. It is getting better, I just wanted to make the joke 😋

  • I'm also from Australia - it's at 4am for me, but could be anywhere from 2-4am for you depending on where in the country you are. I'm only going to watch it live if I find myself unable to sleep.

  • @Dr_Loomis said:

I bet you a pack of toilet rolls.

More valuable than gold these days.

  • I'm sure it is. "Ghostface" is almost certainly trademarked and the rights owned by whoever owns the license to the character, whereas "The Ghost Face" is not.

@OP, as @Sonzaishinai pointed out, there's no reason to believe that the killers are named by the survivors. All the in-universe lore we have about the killers from others' perspectives comes from places like Benedict Baker's journal, which doesn't refer to any of them by their monikers, except when it's a literal description (e.g. "the trapper" as in "the one who traps").

If we do assume that the survivors use those names, though, it's still explainable. Pretty much every killer name except the Demogorgon is one that could reasonably have been made up by someone just observing them. And as for Demogorgon, even though none of the other survivors would know what to call it, remember that at the point in their timeline where Steve and Nancy were taken by the Entity, they had already encountered the Demogorgon and taken to calling it that. If the survivors as a group have names by which they refer to the killers, then presumably they can talk to each other when they're gathered around the campfire or something, and if that's the case then Steve and Nancy could easily have told the rest about the Demogorgon and their previous encounters.

  • Which platform are you playing on?

I don't know how it works on consoles, but on Steam your friends can join your lobby without asking if they join through the Steam friends list instead of through the in-game one, just by right-clicking your name and pressing "Join Game".

  • In case you're not in the UK or eastern NA, the stream is happening 9 hours from now, at the time of posting this comment.

  • I have three questions, which will hopefully help you to decide.

First, are you ever going to use your PS4 account again after transferring? If the answer is yes, I would say definitely buy the pass.

Secondly, what things on the pass are you interested in? We've been told that most of the content from each Rift will eventually arrive in the Store, so if it's just one outfit or two you might want to consider just buying them on PC when that happens. But if you're like me and owning exclusive rewards is important to you even if you never use them, I'd get the pass.

Thirdly, on a related note, imagine the worst-case scenarios and think about which one would make you feel worse. Would you rather buy the pass on PS4 and then never use the content because cross-progression never happens, or not buy the pass, miss out on the content and then be kicking yourself if cross-progression gets implemented later?

  • The developers are the only ones with access to data - anything we give you, even if it's numerically-based, can only be representative of our or a small proportion of people's experience.

Having said that, I think it depends on what you mean by "X-sided". The game is "survivor-sided" in the sense that theoretically, if both roles play perfectly, the survivors will win - but that's not an issue of balance, it's fundamental to the way DBD is designed, as an asymmetrical game with the killer in the reactive role. If we're talking in terms of survival/kill rate, the game overall I think is fairly balanced, although there are certain maps which have higher and lower escape rates than others (you can find that data here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/106566/stats-november-2019).

  • Since we can't assume that Survivors A and B were friends, or that Survivor A wanted B to disconnect, it would be wrong to punish Survivor A in that scenario. So I don't think they should be penalised, but I wouldn't mind that situation being made fairer to the point where the disconnect doesn't give a notable advantage.

To that end, I think Suggestion 1 is by far the best, but I think 30 seconds is too long - in my opinion, it should only last as long as the sacrifice animation would have, which I believe is about 10 seconds. That way, Survivor A doesn't have significantly more of an advantage than they would have if Survivor B had just died on hook, but they're not penalised for something they can't control.

They literally didn't do that. Dedicated servers are live on ALL platforms, and there was never any work done beforehand. BHVR is one of only two companies I know that uses its playerbase as beta testers even after pushing updates live

It was stated in the dev blogs, and I just asked a dev to confirm that they did, in fact, work on the game for a long time to prepare it for the introduction of dedicated servers. So please stop making up falsehoods when you don't actually know what goes on behind the scenes.

  • You're right, PS4 games are run on dedicated servers, so if anyone is lagging, it's their own connection that's the problem, not the killer's. However, things like hit detection are still killer-sided, so the killer's ping can still affect how far away the survivors get hit from.

  • There is actually one being advertised right now, which I think is supposed to happen today or tomorrow (depending on your timezone). I don't know much about it, but here's the thread for it: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/148610/dead-by-daylight-ps4-tournament-may-26-th

There's also a dedicated section of the forums just for tournaments, so if you're looking for more in the future, that would be the place to go: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/tournaments

  • No, it's still there, it's just been merged with solo. You need to go to "play as survivor" and then use the in-game invite feature to invite your friends to join your lobby.

  • Yeah that's a server/latency issue, there are a few of those surrounding the hatch. I'd advise checking the Bug Reports section (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/bugs) to see if someone has already reported it, and if not file a report yourself.

Actually you can. Depending on how long you hold the button will dictate how far he lunges forward. While there is a minimum amount you have to hold it for there to be a difference between a normal attack and a shred, you CAN hold it abit longer to get Demo to go further.

Oh okay, I stand corrected then ☺️

That doesn't make it any better. Why would they implement Dedicated Servers without redesigning the game to, you know, work with dedicated servers?

That's literally exactly what they're doing right now. There are limitations on how much you can do to "redesign" a game for dedicated servers while it's still on a peer-to-peer connection.

  • Because if it's not fully charged, it's not using his power. You can't have a half-charged Shred any more than you can have a half-charged chainsaw, or a half-charged Demon Strike. The "fully charged" part probably only exists for clarification so that newer players understand how to activate Shred to begin with.

1- it's a terrible idea to make custom icons purchasable.

2- you're not getting banned for changing png files, if I were wrong, devs would have told us not to use custom icons when half of the pc community uses them.

Out of interest, what makes you say that custom perk icons would be a bad addition to the Store?

  • I like it well enough, but it depends what the alternative is. That is, I like it well enough that if someone were to say to me, "hey, would you like some black liquorice?" I would say, "sure, thank you", but if I went to the supermarket and bought two packets of lollies as snacks, black liquorice would not be one of them.

To put it another way, I always eat the black jellybeans first because they're my least favourite, but I do eat them.

And by the way, while i was looking through XTU it seems like i got a defect because this gtx 1060 has only 4 gigas instead of 6. Hopefully i can get this trash back and get an actual gaming PC.

What a bummer! Well, fingers crossed then 🤞

It was the adjustment that changed Survivor requirements for Emblems (dull totems gave Lightbringer and being chased gave Lightbringer points if others were made progress on gens) as well as the changes that made it much harder to pip the higher you were Ranked IIRC - none of which should have effected Adept Achievements, but evidently something did.

I'm agreeing with you that it probably was due to some spaghetti code change, and not an intentional change - just clarifying that it wasn't tied to the Victory-Emblem transition.

Edit: which would likely make fixing this issue even more difficult, since they may not know what caused it.

Yeah, it certainly wasn't in the patch notes which might suggest an unintentional change, but the impression I got last time I saw a dev address the topic was that the issue with reversing the change was more one of priorities than difficulty. I suppose they're the only ones who would know for sure, though.

I vote for it and if it screws an unhooker over then good. survivors shouldn't have info in the first place. The game should be 4 random players trying to escape the killer while not knowing what the other 3 players are doing working together without communication. This game should have downsides for survivors and your choices should have actions that aren't always good.

Communication has very little to do with it. Those isolated, uncommunicative survivors you're describing as the ideal - in other words, solo players - are exactly the ones who would be screwed over by a feature like this. It wouldn't negatively affect SWF at all.

  • @TheRockstarKnight said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1299116#Comment_1299116

The Adept trophies didn't change when they adjusted from the Victory system to the Killer system, they changed when Demise of the Faithful was released.

It probably was unintentional, but given that it remained just a 4k requirement after the Victory system was removed: it's safe to say that it isn't side effect of Merciless Victories needing a new definition - they didn't exist anymore and their old definition was simply getting a 4k anyway - not getting a double pip, as Adept achievements still triggered based purely on 4ks for quite some time.

Heck, you could depip and get Adept Killer. I did so getting Pig's Adept (all 3 other Survivors DC'ed after I Moried someone).

I know they made some adjustments to the emblems and to the pipping requirements for different ranks in the Demise of the Faithful patch, so it's not unlikely that that was one of them. I don't remember well enough what the pipping requirements were between the emblem system's introduction and the release of that patch to know for sure, though.

  • I think an explanation is needed, because I can see a number of issues with this right off the bat. Two main ones, though:

First, it's highly exploitable. Going to save another survivor is a risky endeavour which will often make you a target for the killer. The hooked player may decide to deny the rescue for any number of reasons, sometimes for legitimate strategic reasons, but probably more often because they want more struggle points, because they want to let their friend get the unhook instead, or simply because you accidentally sandbagged them earlier and they want you dead. If they do, you've made yourself a target, perhaps even got yourself hooked, without even managing a rescue, which in certain situations could mean the difference between a win and a loss for the entire team.

Which brings me to my second point - unless they're your friend and you're communicating with them, the hooked player cannot be trusted to make sound strategic decisions. There are all sorts of factors which could turn an unsafe situation into a safe one that they might not be aware of. For example, you might have Borrowed Time, We'll Make It, or a Styptic Agent, you might be in communication with one of the other survivors who can tell you where the killer is, you might be planning to sacrifice yourself for them because you have Deliverance or Decisive Strike or some other means to get yourself out of there, or any number of other factors. Many players are not good strategists and could very easily deny an unhook based on false or incomplete information that they think they have, which again could end in a loss for the entire team.

Hook farming sucks, but all things considered, it's very much the lesser of two evils.

But the thing is, I didn't get the same realms this much before last update. Now it's much more increased chance for these maps it feels :/ I used to get Badham a lot and more inside maps, but since the last update it's just been those three realms almost back to back every match.

I've seen people get Lery's 5 games in a row. It's rare, but it happens. I'm not saying it doesn't suck, just in this case it's fairly normal mathematically speaking, and there's no real reason to believe that the map probabilities have been adjusted. You're just getting a bit unlucky, that's all.

  • This has always been a mechanic, since her release. Insidious Nurse camping the Exit Gate was one of the game's earliest meme builds.

  • It wasn't changed directly, it was a side-effect of the introduction of the emblem system, which changed how the game (and therefore the achievement) defines a "Merciless Victory". They can't change the achievement because Microsoft and Sony won't let them as long as it's still technically possible. Valve will, but they prefer to keep it consistent across platforms.

The only thing to be done is to change the way the game defines a "Merciless Victory" to make it independent of the emblem system, which the devs have expressed some interest in doing in the past, but as always it's a matter of priorities, and generally balancing issues and bug fixes will take precedence over achievement changes.

If BHVR has better servers for an experimental beta platform than the platform that they've been using since LAUNCH, they basically don't deserve to have careers in game design

Or maybe it's just that one of them was designed from launch to be played on dedicated servers and the other was not.

  • These figures aren't actually that unusual from a mathematical standpoint. The only unusual thing is that you didn't get Badham at all. The numbers you got did deviate from the base probabilities, particularly in the case of the three original realms, but not more so than would be expected out of a single RNG-based practical experiment.

Here are some numbers for reference:

  • What the developers actually said was that it would be at least 6-12 months before Rift cosmetics arrive in the Store. So it's a possibility, but nothing close to a guarantee, that we'll be seeing them available for purchase soon.

  • I think, firstly, that the definition of toxicity needs to be discussed. For me personally, and I'd be inclined to go so far as to say definitionally, the intention behind it is what defines toxic behaviour. Toxicity is destructive in its nature, and seeks to bring down or ruin. In other words, toxic behaviour is anything that is done with the primary intention of hurting or upsetting someone else. Playing the game to win (camping, tunnelling, etc.) is not toxic under that definition, even if it isn't enjoyable for the other players, because upsetting other players is not the goal. Sometimes in competitive multiplayer games (put away the pitchforks guys, I'm talking about "competitive" in the sense that players compete with one another), things happen that aren't very fun, and that's just how it is - it's virtually unavoidable.

Having said that, that doesn't mean that playing in ways that makes the game particularly unenjoyable for other players shouldn't be discouraged - I just don't think it should be punished. I'm actually very much in favour of an honour system in DBD, but as @LordRegal said, I don't think that could be reliably automated, and I also don't think that having a bad reputation should be punished. Positive reinforcement is the way to go, in my opinion. Perhaps the current "props" system could be expanded into something that rewards players who are recognised by others as being a particularly positive force in their games.

The only reason I care that I pipped in this particular match is because of another player strongly insisting that I definitely didn't pip. I just thought it was a kinda funny interaction in the post game chat.

I don't want you to be discouraged, so for the record, I thought it was funny 😊 People just have a tendency, when a post mentions something controversial like camping or moris, to hone in on that thing and overlook the actual point being made.

  • Leatherface is actually relatively weak. His chainsaw is fairly easy to dodge for good survivors who understand how he works, and his tantrum every time he hits an object with it can be a serious detriment. The only thing he really excels at is camping.

If you have trouble playing against Leatherface, I'd recommend spending a bit of time playing as him. This should give you a better idea of his power and its limitations, which will help you understand how to play around it 😊

Considering that the killers all understand that gens=exit gates, no matter the period they're from, why wouldn't older survivors learn it too?

Side note: I always felt that Carter (the doctor) was from the 40s or 50s.

The man he's based on, Yang Yongxin, started practicing around the mid-2000s, and does so to this day as far as I'm aware. It's possible that the character could be from an earlier time, of course, although I have heard that the Doctor was originally supposed to be Yang Yongxin but they couldn't do that for legal reasons.

  • Yes, but bear in mind that the discount is only applied to the items as a set. So for example, in a 1080AC outfit, the individual pieces cost 400AC. If you buy one of those pieces, buying the rest as a set will cost you 720AC (400 + 400 - 10%), but overall you will have paid 1120 for the entire outfit. So if you think you might want the rest of the pieces later, it's cheapest to just buy the whole outfit at once.

  • @luka2211 said:

I have never met a cheater ever, that used speedhacks or anything like it in my 4k+ hrs of playtime.

I got a hacker once in one of my games. I was playing killer (Demo) and there was one Bill who I knew existed because I'd seen him from a distance, but by the time I got close he would have vanished every time. I thought I was crazy until I caught him sinking into the ground one time. After that point, he knew I knew he had hacks, so he put all pretences aside and spent the rest of the game flying around, unhooking his teammates without being anywhere near them, instantly healing and generally being an absolute pain in the rear end.

  • I can give you a couple more tips in addition to @Lowkeysaurus' great ones above.

Your second blink is short, so don't waste it traversing the map. The time it takes for it to recharge isn't worth the small amount of extra distance, and the fatigue is longer if you use two blinks at once. If you're just trying to get somewhere quickly, like patrolling generators or gates, use one blink and let it recharge before using it again. That way, if you find a survivor, you won't have to wait for both your blinks to recharge before giving chase.

Only hit after a blink if you see a survivor within hitting range - don't do it just in case there happens to be someone there. If you attack after a blink, the post-blink fatigue is slightly lengthened. You have a window of about a second or two to look around after the blink before going into fatigue, so use it to decide whether it's worth going for a hit.

Don't expect to do well right away. Nurse is the strongest killer in the game when played to her full potential, but she has quite a high skill floor, and when you first start playing her you will lose a lot and you will lose badly, so you have to be prepared for that.

For the From The Void She Kills achievement specifically, you'll need the Torn Bookmark add-on. The best way to do it is to find a survivor, injure them, and follow them until they get to a pallet or window vault. Try to use as few blinks as possible while doing this, since you'll need all three once they get to the vault. If it's a pallet, let them drop it, but don't get stunned. Once they reach the vault or drop the pallet, blink to the other side, then back, then to the other side once more, and then swing your weapon at the pallet or vault. With any luck, your blinking back-and-forth will cause the survivor to panic and spam the vault trying to outsmart you, so when you swing at them after the third blink you should be able to grab them off it.

  • @SunaIIanu said:

There is a way to see which Killer you are facing in the lobby, but it's considered an exploit so I don't think that you are allowed to talk about that in the official forums.

Also, the developers know about it and are already working on fixing it.

  • But what if it's Haunted? D:

In all seriousness, though, my general approach to hex totems is to try to figure out what they are before I cleanse them, in case it actually is something I don't want to cleanse. For example, if I go tap a generator, I can find out if it's Ruin. If I do a skill check, I can find out if it's Huntress' Lullaby. If I cleanse a dull totem, I can find out if it's Retribution or Thrill of the Hunt. If the killer hits me, I can find out if it's Third Seal.

If it's none of those, it's either Haunted Ground or Devour Hope, in which case I'll typically wait until the killer has injured someone before cleansing it, because while someone is already injured and in a chase is the best time to trigger Exposed if it is Haunted Ground. If I discover that it's Retribution, I probably won't want to cleanse it either because I'd rather not reveal everyone's aura to the killer, and if it's Thrill, I'd prefer to wait until the killer is otherwise occupied so I don't give away my position needlessly.

  • Don't post it here - the forum isn't the place to report people, and we have rules against naming-and-shaming. The best thing to do is report them for hacking in the scoring screen after the game, and then send a ticket to Support with any additional video evidence you have (https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=191426).

  • There are a few methods you can try.

    1. Tombstone Myers - if you can manage to get to this stage of the game before everyone's running out the gates, they'll all be tripping over themselves to jump into lockers so you can't kill them once you've moried the first person.
    2. Killer Instinct on Legion or Demogorgon - use Feral Frenzy as much as possible as Legion, or place portals near lockers as Demogorgon. This won't encourage people to go into lockers, but it will help you to detect when they are in one.
    3. Cannibal or Hillbilly - people like to jump into lockers to avoid chainsaws. The only problem is you might have trouble getting the chainsaw off cooldown fast enough to grab them.
    4. Tunnelling - sometimes people like to jump into lockers to force DS, although personally I don't have this happen very much.

One tip I've discovered for the challenge is you don't actually have to open a locker and find them inside - grabbing them while they're going in or out also counts.

True true, from what you've said a little bit of game-blame is probably the best I can get on a PvP then. But yeah, I don't play a lot of PvP so you're right (usually I'm very ######### at the game and rage quit because I'm just embarrassing myself, I think I'm at least acceptable as a Wraith and Nea on here though, albeit I haven't prestiged any characters yet, so I've got a lot to come).

I don't know how they would have done it, but it would certainly be a big surprise worthy of the hype if they've somehow managed to acquire a license for Jason.
