It's not quite as useless as you seem to be implying, and the SWF argument does hold some water, but overall I agree, people aren't giving it enough credit for how situational it is. Of course a powerful but highly situational perk or any other mechanic is going to seem overpowered if you only imagine it in ideal circumstances and don't take into account how often those circumstances actually occur.
-
You sound like you're probably new, so welcome! I just wanted to say it's really nice to see someone getting this excited about the game. By its nature, horror tends to get less scary over time the more you're exposed to it, so it's cool that even though most of us who've been playing for a long time are long since desensitised to it, there are still people for whom the horror aspects of the game are effective and exciting π

Yeah, I meant report to Discord sorry if I wasn't clear enough. Thanks for your help.
No worries! Good luck π
-
The best argument I've seen against this, and the one I allign most strongly with, is that "community" voting is far more likely to be a reflection of exposure than of the artwork's actual popularity.
Entrants who are also streamers/Youtubers, for example, will have their audience voting for their entry just because it's theirs, not because it's the best, and people with the foresight (or shamelessness, depending on your perspective) to advertise their work on other platforms like Reddit, Steam, Facebook etc. will necessarily get more votes on their entry just because more people are seeing it.
Basically, popular vote is almost never a good indicator of actual quality, which is why most art competitions in real life have their true winners judged by a panel and award the "audience vote" as more of an honourary thing.

But how will he breathe? D:

I'm definitely doing that. So I imagine it's not enough he's on that hackers group π Do you know if it's worth it to report their Discord server (it's on the Steam group's description) or it doesn't make any sense? π
Probably not - BHVR don't have anything to with things that happen outside of the game itself, so they couldn't do anything about the Discord server even if you did report it. It is, however, against Discord's TOS to distribute or promote hacks, so they would be the ones to report it to if you wanted something to be done about the server itself.

I don't know where/if they have specified anything in detail about the forthcoming cross-play, but the Steam/Windows Store option is opt-out, which means everyone has it enabled by default, unless they take steps to disable the option. For cross-play to have any sort of meaningful impact, it would have to be opt-out.
I don't understand the people who are wanting to opt out of this, though. The majority of the other players on your platform will not pay close attention, and just be happy for the better matchmaking and queues. If you opt out of it on, say, Xbox, you would be stuck queuing only with other Xbox players who have opted out. This would make your queues take forever. Why would you want this?
Some people would prefer long queues to what they perceive as unfair matches. Personally, I'm not convinced that the game is so much easier on PC that console players would be at a dramatic disadvantage, but I think that's the idea behind it for those who do want to opt out.

Opt-out feature. Very different.
Well, I couldn't tell you, I don't actually remember which word was used. The only thing I do know is it will be optional.
-
I definitely understand the frustration - I've had games before myself that I couldn't report because I didn't record them, but unfortunately there's nothing the Support team can really do without proof π Otherwise, they risk banning genuinely innocent people who just got report-bombed.
The best you can do at this stage is just keep an eye out for similar behaviour in the future. Maybe download a screen-recording program like OBS and having it running (not necessarily recording) in the background whenever you play DBD - that's what I do, personally. That way, you can just tab out and press record if someone starts griefing or hacking or something like that in one of your games.
-
Yes, I've heard it will be an opt-in feature. I'm not sure if you'll be able to disable crossplay with specific platforms, though, or just in general. The latter seems more likely.

My point is that they made a lot of changes in the past based on their stats and all the crying player during this broken matchmaking.
If they have finally fixt this matchmaking (I hope they will make it) than the nerfed side of survivor will start crying...
The actually matchmaking ( for example rank 13 killer against red rank survivor) gives the devs some unrealistic/crazy stats and playerfeedbacks which are the base for all changes.
Imagine a football star plays against a highschool quarterback, to make it fair the star get a handicap. But now (when matchmaking is fixt) the star come back to the superbowl and has still his handicap...
You know what I mean?
The devs are very aware of how matchmaking skews statistics, and I'm certain they take that into account when using those stats to inform balance changes. They do have a team of professional statisticians and data analysts processing that stuff, after all.
Also, the changes to matchmaking were announced months ago, and the only "crying" I've seen in that time is from people concerned that the new system won't work, not that any advantages they might have will be taken away.

If you have footage of the game, and you reported them in the post-game scoring screen, you can submit a support ticket with that footage here: https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=191426
You'll need your own and the offending player's Steam ID64, as well as your Player Cloud ID (which you can find at the bottom of the Options menu in-game).
You will need to remove or at least censor all the names in that screenshot, though, since that constitutes "naming and shaming", which is against forum rules.

There is no way to distinguish an accidental disconnection from an intentional one on the server side, so unfortunately they have to punish everyone equally to prevent the system from being circumvented and, therefore, useless. You will get banned from joining the queue for increasing amounts of time if you keep leaving games, even if it's because of bad internet - this is the case in many, if not most, online multiplayer games, not just DBD. I know that it sucks, but if they want people to be penalised for disconnecting at all, this is the only way to reliably do that.
-
They've been saying for years that they'd love to have Jason in the game. It's just a matter of waiting until it's practically and/or legally an option.
-
All of this is stuff that the new system aims to fix, as I understand it. We should only need to endure the terrible matchmaking for another month at most.

@Fibijean sure I absolutely agree, as long as that's actually what's being attempted.
However when the post ends with "Do you ever stop to think that that woman might go back and watch chat later on to see what they thought of her presentation? Just to see impatient people being Aholes? Do you know how many developers there are that don't talk to their community? The majority of them, so stop being disrespectful children and enjoy the game." You know that's not the true base intent.
Instead its a poor attempt at earning brownie points on the internet for being a morally upstanding player. I could make the joke that this is the most prime example of being a simp on a forum board but overall it just hits all the right notes of the typical fanboy who cant handle the thought of others viewing or treating one of their hobbies in a different way than them.
We might just need to agree to disgree on the intent of the OP, then, because that's not how I read it. To me, that seems like a rather cynical and uncharitable interpretation - but then, I'm the type of person who likes to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, so maybe I'm just being too charitable.
-
The devs definitely realise that matchmaking is a problem - that's why they're overhauling the system next month.

im not defending the people in chat but I will say this. by in large most people watched the stream to see what the next year roadmap would be like and who the new licensed killer would be. The devs know this and they purposely put the killer reveal at the end so that they could make sure they had an audience at all for the mobile section and the fog whisperers section, and guess what it worked. they had thousands of people see and hear the stuff that they really didn't care about but the devs wanted us to know about. I do not care at all for dbdmobile, I just don't have a phone capable of running it. However because of that stream and them making me wait for the killer I do have in the back of my head now if I get a better phone that dbd mobile is not a half bad deal. Im sure the devs knew this would be the reaction and are mature enough to not let it hurt their feelings. They also sure as hell don't need others defending them in a sort of weird white knight post because again they are grown adults and are absolutely equipped to handle it.
Just because grown adults can handle their own problems doesn't mean that care and support don't make a difference. Calling out juvenile and demeaning behaviour and being vocally supportive of those on the receiving end of it is not the same thing as implying that they can't defend themselves.

Your opinions about the mobile chapter can be whatever you want. But disrespecting a hard working developer just bc it doesn't fits your interests is not okay. To be fair the mods also couldve blacklist words and ban every kid. But theyre probably too kind. The point is theres no reason to be that unfriendly just bc you dont like the theme. If you dont like it go afk for a while, mute the stream but making an effort saying "skip" "boring"to someone who worked very hard for developing a good game and making/holding a presentation for 50 thousand viewers is just an unnessesary and ######### move.
Hopefully they add some more moderations and mods who just spam out the bans.
From the sounds of it, the mods were very much doing their jobs. It's the fact that this stuff was there in the first place that's cause for concern.

Well, it would round out a build. But that is why I am asking, since survivor is not my fortΓ©.
Sure. As I said, Sprint Burst synergises with Poised, and Fixated synergises with Sprint Burst, so if you're going to use Sprint Burst, Fixated is a perfectly good complement. But I wouldn't use just Fixated on its own with Poised, unless you have no better options.
-
As someone who has been around since mid-2016, the wiki has it spot-on. There is no real consensus anymore - many old players, and new players who have been educated by older ones, use the "old" interpretation, while at the same time many newer players, and old players who have changed tactics in order to better communicate with newer ones use the "new" interpretation, with the result being that no one really knows for sure what "Hook Gymnastics" are supposed to indicate anymore.

I was more using Fixated for the ability to see scratch marks. So you could see where they would be, and because Fixated works with SB.
Ah, I see. Well, if you were going to use that combo, I'd use it for the Sprint Burst synergy. Given that Poised removes scratch marks, I can't see Fixated giving you much use there. I guess it could give you a heads up for when the effect of Poised runs out, but you can get the same information just by watching the timer on the Poised icon and saving that slot for something more worthwhile.
-
I know - I turned chat off personally because it was too distracting, but I've heard things about it that make me feel so sorry for the devs on the stream. I hope for their sake that they were able to ignore it, because I know in their position I'd find it really discouraging.

I feel far too few players prepare a loadout thinking βhow can I trick the killer/survivors?β
But at least that's ultimately to the advantage of those who do, because no one is expecting to be tricked π

Aura reading perks are very map dependent too
In what sense? I can see that something like Alert would probably give more of an advantage on a map with lots of pallets, but other than that, "very" map dependent seems like an overstatement, unless there's something I'm missing.

Do you ever consider running poised with SB and Fixated?
I am more asking because I want to know if it is a decent survivor build. I am not good at making those (killer builds are different stories though).
Well, Fixated doesn't really synergise with Poised because it only affects walking speed, and the entire point of Poised is to be able to sprint without consequence for 10 seconds per generator. Sprint Burst would definitely work with it, I just personally wouldn't run that combo because I'm not a fan of Sprint Burst in general and the playstyle it enforces. Given that playstyle, though, SB and Fixated do synergise fairly well, so if you wanted to run all three together it could work.

Iβm a big believer in the unexpected giving MASSIVE advantages.
Same here, I think that's most of the power of perks like the ones I mentioned, as well as things like Blood Warden or Diversion. It's one of the reasons that I'm against the idea of underused perks being buffed just because they're underused, because for a lot of them their strength lies mainly in the fact that they are niche to begin with.
-
There are a lot of great underrated perks out there. People tend to underestimate the amount of information that aura-reading perks, like Alert and Empathy, give the player. Personally, I'm a fan of perks that allow you to escape by doing things the killer isn't expecting - so Poised and Tenacity are two of my favourites for that reason.

What if Dwight doesn't have Iron Will or Urban Immersion? Which most people probably won't have because he is most likely the first character people will level up.
Well, obviously that makes it harder. Personally, I had a hard time with my first attempt at the challenge because I don't have either of those perks unlocked on Dwight (although I do have the teachables) so I'm levelling him until he gets them while I complete different challenges with other characters.
-
My plan is Iron Will, Urban Evasion, and just tail the killer as much as possible. Burning a Yamaoka Estate offering and wearing clothing that will blend in would probably also be very helpful, since it allows you to hide in bushes right next to the killer and remain unseen.
-
I think a lot of the time it's because people panic and don't think strategically. They go for the save, get seen, and decide to unhook anyway because they don't want the risk they took in attempting it to be for nothing. It doesn't occur to them in the moment that it might be a better idea for everyone involved if they just backed off and let someone else get the rescue.
Basically, sunk-cost fallacy plays a big role. It's the same reason why people playing fighting games will sometimes mindlessly engage an opponent and just try to do as much damage as possible even when they're clearly on the back foot and would really be better off retreating, because they don't want all the health they've already lost to go to waste.
-
I'm not even from the US, I'm Australian, but sometimes I use "y'all" just because it's easier and more streamlined than saying "you guys" - and if there's one thing Aussies are good at, it's shortening every word possible because we're too lazy to say the whole thing.

+They added this to PyramidHead.
They actually said they had thought about making some changes to it - they just don't want to fully automate it because they want players to engage with the "struggle" on some level.
-
From the server side, unfortunately not. That's why the penalty exists in the form that it does, because as far as preventing exploitation goes, it's kind of an all-or-nothing thing. It's not ideal, but many feel that it's the lesser of two evils overall.
-
You'd need a fairly powerful laptop to run DBD that comfortably, it's not a very system-friendly game. 1K might be a bit optimistic, but then again I don't know what country you live in so I'm not sure how much that will actually get you.
As LegionAbuser stated above, a desktop is usually the more powerful and cost-efficient solution if you can manage it. Is there a reason why you need the computer to be super portable?
-
They addressed this on the most recent stream. Basically, it's absolutely something that they (BHVR) would like to implement, but it depends on the outcome of discussions they're currently in the middle of with their partners (which I'm guessing means license holders, but could also be referring to platform owners like Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo).
-
This would be great. I have a friend who can't play anymore because he has to use Linux (apparently, parts of his computer aren't compatible with Windows). I don't know how difficult or time-consuming it would be to implement, but if it's as easy as you're implying I think it would be an excellent addition.

@jmaximo93 said:
Just woke up and read your reply. I see your point in a lot of what you said. I do, however, disagree with 1 of your responses.
7. I started playing DbD as a solo player but then my girlfriend and my brother and a couple of my friends got the game after some convincing. Now when I play I am almost exclusively with 1 or 2 people. I honestly wouldn't mind the speed reduction. Maybe cap the reduction at 5% for a 4 person SWF group. I don't see it as a punishment but more of a game balance. This would balance the advantage you get so that the killer also gets some benefit from people doing SWF. People starting out doing SWF probably wouldn't even notice the difference and veteran players doing SWF would have to play only a little harder. It would, however, be a small help to killers that would probably appease people who are frustrated with SWF. I also know a lot of people that play killer at the moment that lobby dodge if they even think a group is SWF. My solution might not be the answer but I certainly think that there needs to be insensitive for killers to want to play against SWF besides "it's a better challenge".
I thought of more things but I don't want to spam the forums so stay tuned for more ideas from me. I honestly love when people give me constructive feedback because that way I can see where I may have a misunderstanding or bias.
I understand your point, but I think it's worth considering that your perspective may not be not the universal or even the most common one. I suspect a large proportion of people would find out about the feature and go, "what, this game penalises you if you're in a group? no thanks". It's not a common enough feature in online games for people to just accept something like that - plus, it would seriously cripple the hype around introducing crossplay, with all the hard work that's been put into that.
I think the other thing to note is that SWF being a significant balance problem is far from being universally accepted. You wouldn't mind such a change because you see it as solving an issue with the game, but consider that those who don't see SWF as something in need of fixing in the first place would feel like they're being handicapped for no good reason. And that's not to mention those types who don't care if the game is balanced as long as they can do what they like (although admittedly, the latter aren't the players you want to be listening to when making adjustments to the game in any case).

There is no way that something called "legendary skins" is going to be available for just playing the game.
It's gonna cost money and the price will most likely be 2 or 3 times the standard.
I didn't say I thought it would be, but the fact is we don't know. It's misleading and confusing for people to be commenting things like "it's going to cost $25" as if that's a fact that's been announced. By all means, say "I expect it will cost a lot" or "it probably won't be available for shards" but don't say it like it's a certainty - that's how we get people yelling at the devs for things they never said.
-
No information has been given about them except that they will be a thing. The pricing and everything else is pure speculation, so don't put too much store by it.

Just to let you know, in case it's helpful for completion purposes, I think that's the challenge which requires you to damage five different generators in a single game.
-
You're right, you won't get banned for saying "ggez", and reports are handled on a case-by-case basis, so it doesn't matter how many you get if you haven't done anything wrong. All of that stuff you mentioned in your last paragraph, however, is absolutely bannable - in fact, any kind of serious threat (death threats, DOX threats, spreading private information, etc.) will get them an automatic permaban.
You can find more information about reportable offences here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/19450/game-rules-and-report-system
If you've checked the game rules and you're still unsure, I'd probably say report it anyway. Worst case scenario, they decide it's not bannable and discard the report. Better than letting toxic people continue to ruin the experience for others with no repercussions.

At one point, during a stream, someone asked if we can expect to see licensed characters appear in future tomes. I don't remember who answered, but it was probably Mathieu. He said that something along the lines of "to us, a character is a character." That seems like potential confirmation.
True, but they also said that they would never put challenges in the Tome which require you to play a character who cannot be purchased with shards. So if they feature a licensed character in a future Tome, either that character will be made temporarily available for shards, or (more likely) there won't be any challenges in the Tome which require you to play that character.

I dont disagree, but they can alter the formula a bit if its still not balanced.
Sure - I certainly don't think the maths is irrelevant, I'm just not convinced they should be using it as a starting point in this particular instance.
-
@Dead_by_Gadfly said:
@Fibijean i think desiging and balancing around kill rates is a mistake and why theyre having so much trouble. It should be based around math.
X number of pallets take Y amount of time to break + amount of time to walk in between those pallets = the amount of time it takes to complete 5 generators
Thats not meant to be the actual formula, just giving you an idea of what I mean.
The rules for games, as well as the win conditions, should be based on fairness, not trying to hit a desired outcome. Jmho
Ill also add even if you were trying to hit a certain kill rate, it should be 3k, not 2. The person that makes it out should feel like they actually accomplished something, and most movies have 1 survivor. But i still go back to math
Except that life, and people, don't work around maths. Human behaviour doesn't operate to a formula, and human behaviour is what drives this game. Very few people play the game completely optimally, and I'm willing to bet no one does 100% of the time. Balance is only important insofar as it facilitates a positive gameplay experience - if the game is completely balanced on paper, but in practice one side dominates most of the time and no one is having fun, that's still a failure of design. On the contrary, I think the biggest mistake they could make would be balancing the game on a purely theoretical level rather than a practical one.
