It'd be better if maybe first they'd fix the bugs causing the game to crash before moving to dc bans. I play every night pretty much...at least 20 hours a week and 50-100 games a week. I can count on one hand the number of dcs I see and I am on Xbox where aside from losing BP and PIPs there is nothing to stop you from dc'ing.

I would say that's debatable. On the one hand, it would absolutely be ideal if we could have the penalties without punishing innocent players. On the other hand, if we wait until the game is crash-free before implementing the penalties, we'll be waiting a very, very long time.

I don't think my game has crashed once in the middle of a match since the penalties were introduced. I'm not saying these things don't happen or shouldn't be improved upon by the developers, but I do think they're a lot rarer overall than the amount of people raving about them makes them seem, and I would also be inclined to believe that if someone's game is crashing enough in the span of a few days for the penalties to be noticeable, the problem might be more with the strength of their hardware than with the software itself. Dead By Daylight is not a well-optimised game, and lower-end systems do struggle to keep it running stably.

  • The thing about making light of really serious issues is it's very dangerous territory to tread. Jokes among friends are one thing, but I think for a company to do something like that would be in bad taste. Not only because it's a serious issue, but because it's widespread and current. There are probably members of the DBD community who right now are suffering from the virus themselves, or close to someone who is, or even mourning the loss of a loved one from it. I understand where you're coming from, and individually it might come down to context and personal perspectives, but it's not professional or appropriate for a business to make light of things like that.

yes cause people don't suicide on the hook or just sandbag their team instead of disconnecting

So because people will look for ways to circumvent punishment, we shouldn't bother with the punishment in the first place? That makes no logical sense.

  • I know, I can't believe they won't let quarantined players ruin the game for all the other quarantined players.

DC bans aren't there to ruin your fun, they're there to stop you from ruining other people's fun.

  • I don't consider it BM, and I'm happy to hit them out, but sometimes I would rather they just cleared off and let me get onto my next game. 200 points isn't worth the time it takes to walk back and forth between the gates, shepherding survivors out the exits like mischievous children.

That’s an Add on. I’m talking about the offering. White Ward is an offering. The add ons say that.

Nope, that's the description for the White Ward offering. "Burning this offering grants you protection... in the event you die".

  • It does. "Burning this Offering grants you protection against the loss of your Item and its Add-ons in the event you die."

Having said that, I'm not sure if it still prevents you from losing your add-ons since the recent update.

Doesn't look like KYF to me. There's no "switch" button like there normally would be. And the "manage" button disappears after.

That's what I figured as well, I just thought it was best to be explicit about it to make it easy on whichever dev is trying to fix it.

  • This is a question to pose to the DBD Mobile Support. No one here can answer it for you, not even the mods or devs, as mobile is run by a completely different team. Here is the link to contact Mobile Support: dbdmobile.helpshift.com

  • Just to be clear, was this a public game (as in, not KYF)?

    Unpopular opinion:

I've been a killer main for over a year now. I probably play 90% as killer, 10% as survivor.

My unique opinion is that I really like the Ruin nerf. I was getting kinda complacent and bored with playing as killer. Most games would not me a 3-4 k with a little effort. Now it's renewed my passion for playing killer role. I find that gens going fast the first five minutes of the match equal a tense match that forces me to think quickly and act to save the match. Much more rewarding to get 3-4 kills after being behind the first five minutes of the match. I used to mindlessly run ruin, "Cause all killers need ruin", people used to say. I really don't need ruin or any other slowdown perk. Also opens up my strange perk loadouts I like to experiment with.

Wow, that really is an unpopular opinion. Nice!

OMG, I so want to know what word got censored there. It definitely doesn't look like profanity from the context. And if it's what I think it is, then the censor for this forum is easily triggered.

Let's just say it's two words, and if you said them on their own to someone, it would be bad, which I imagine is why they're in the filter. But the filter fails to take context, like the one in which Nick was using the phrase, into account.

I disagree. My discord clan already challenged me to prove me wrong dude. They are not noobs! They play since the game came out. I beat them with trapper twice just like that... The killers move speed is WAY too fast man. A killer can play very very dirty. Survivors can't they are just defenseless.

I'm not sure if you're responding to me or someone else. If you're responding to someone in a thread, it's generally a good idea to either @ them (like this @Xetal) or use the Quote button under the comment you're replying to.

  • That's a bug. It has already been reported by someone else, so I would encourage you to head over to the thread I've linked below and upvote it so the devs know that there are multiple people experiencing the same issue. Feel free to add a comment with your platform and any additional details about your own experience.

  • @Xetal said:

I do not find the game enjoyable to play as a survivor. The killers are 100 WAY WAY OP. I decline the company of my close friends, because I will not play as a survivor. Survivors are defenseless, they stand no chance vs a killer... As a killer though... With the huntress I can throw my axe across the map and often hit, With Hill Billy I can pretty much move from one side of the map to the next in a few seconds, I don't even need to learn other killers because these alone are unbeatable. If ANY OF YOU SURVIVORS with RED rank, want to go vs me with a killer, I challenge you.

Invite your best team mates, I will certainly own you with my mere 3 weeks of experience as a KILLER vs your years of survivors.

I will bet money on PAYPAL or any platform...

This is how confident I am that the killers are WAY OP.

I'm not the best survivor on Earth by any means, but I will gladly take you up on that if you're serious.

    @Xetal said:

I know I'm new... I'm trying to give the game a shot but. as a survivor it's 100% unplayable IMO. unless the killer is complete trash.

Also, that BBQ perk killers have, it's broken 100%. Might as well open up ollydbg + morphine and create a ring0 ESP to make it fair. I don't see another way.

As for BBQ, there are several ways to counter it. The easiest is to hide in a locker, which will hide your aura completely from the killer. Get in the locker when you see them pick up one of the other survivors, wait until they hook them, count for five seconds, then you can safely leave the locker. If there are no lockers nearby, you can hide behind an uncompleted generator - generator auras and survivor auras as seen with BBQ are both red, so it makes it much harder for the killer to see your position at a glance. If all else fails, you can walk or run in one direction when your teammate gets hooked, and then after five seconds, walk back in the other direction. The killer will generally assume that you kept going the same direction you were heading at first and search for you in that area.

  • Probably my most unpopular opinion is that keys and moris don't need any changes except that they should spawn less often in the bloodwebs. I think that having overpowered mechanics in the game isn't necessarily bad game design as long as they're balanced overall (that is, balanced in a universal sense, not on a match-by-match basis). If it's equally as rare or difficult to use as it is powerful, that's still balanced.

And at that point, it's a matter of personal preference whether you find that sort of thing enjoyable or not. I do, because I find it exciting and I think it adds flavour and variety to the game, but some people prefer that the outcome of every match be entirely skill-based with little to no RNG involved, and I can respect that as well (although I think DBD happens not to be that kind of game).

  • You forgot my favourite item - maps! Not even joking, Rainbow Maps are my jam.

As for which item I bring most, though, it's probably toolboxes, just because I tend to have a lot more of them than I do maps.

  • Killers seem OP when you're new, because killers are easier to do well with than survivors when neither side really knows what they're doing. Stats-wise, killers tend to have much higher killrates at low ranks because the survivors don't know how to counter them, among other things. You may not believe me now, but once you get more experience with the game, you will find it gets easier as a survivor. If you need tips, I would recommend checking out some gameplay videos on YouTube, or even the Guides section here on the forums (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/gameplay-guides).

I’m on PlayStation. I’ve tried playing other games and it’s fine. So confused!

When does this usually happen? Is it every time you start sprinting? And are you sure you're not using any haste-based perks (Sprint Burst, Adrenaline, Poised, etc.)?

  • What platform are you on? Sounds like it could be a problem with your keyboard/controller.

  • You knew those mechanics were a possibility when you committed to playing the match, and you committed anyway. If you don't like the mechanics of the game to the point where you don't want to play it, don't play it. But you don't get to flip the metaphorical table halfway through just because things aren't going your way.

Yeah, that makes a lot more sense now that you reminded me of how it the old connection used to work...

I don't know if grabs will ever be fixed because of this change, so we'll have to see if they rework the grab mechanic or not.

I believe they mentioned in the technical stream that they were working on it. They're trying to reduce the impact of latency in general, but there are also a lot of smaller latency-related issues, like grabs, stalking, Dead Hard etc. that need specific fixes, so apparently they're trying to address those on an individual basis.

  • @FireHazard said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1175599#Comment_1175599

Yeah, that's what i'm referring to... in my own way of explaining it.

Two similar actions, in this case an M1 grab and releasing the M1 button to stop repairing a Survivor, will clash with one another and cause an issue with how the game is supposed to process this. As far as I can remember... I believe this issue started when Dedicated Servers were added. I could be wrong though, since my memory is really bad.

No you're right, it's an issue with dedicated servers because when the killer was the host on the peer-to-peer connection, every interaction was determined by what the killer saw, so survivors might get funky grabs if their connection was bad but the killer never would.

  • @FireHazard said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1175548#Comment_1175548

Regardless of your ping, the issue still exists because of latency.

I think it's become more prominent since Dedicated Servers were released, but the main connection to the issue is latency, like most conflicting actions in an online game.

Your ping could be near perfect, but you'll still come across this issue from time to time. I've also had this happen to me plenty of times, it's usually caused by both the Killer pressing M1 WHILE the Survivor releases it at the same time and/or earlier than when the Killer pressed M1. In a more basic explanation, both actions clash with each other and the game doesn't know what to do with it sometimes...

Latency is just ping halved, so in this case it amounts to the same thing. The other player(s)' ping is also a factor though, which I assume is probably what you're referring to.

  • Not for me personally. The only time I ever have trouble grabbing is if my ping is particularly high because my internet is playing up (which makes sense since the grab cancelling is a latency problem). My ping is usually about 30 since the introduction of the dedicated servers, so most other people probably have higher ping and therefore more issues with latency-related problems like grabbing and stalking.

Sad to know about this change....

    Tks for the answer!

It was changed to stop it from being too easily exploitable with terror-radius related mechanics like the updated Beast of Prey. Separating it from the terror radius gives the devs a lot more freedom to make adjustments to Deep Wound and to Legion in particular without worrying as much about perk synergies.

If they'd stop saying "I payed money, I can play how I want" with "I'm an ######### who doesn't care about other human beings due to my own selfish entitlement", then I wouldn't have to say this.

This isn't about their mentality, this is about the excuse they're giving.

My point is, they give that excuse because of their mentality. They don't see it as being a jerk or not caring about other human beings because of the way they perceive morality. What they're basically saying is "everyone has the right to do whatever they want if it makes them happy". I personally disagree, but that's why they make excuses like that, and why they think those excuses are legitimate.

  • @PigMainClaudette said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1174746#Comment_1174746

It's like I said. It's no excuse since just about all of us did.

And I've probably spent more money than them. On sale this game was still a bit over $30 Aus on Xbox, with DLC about $15 Aus per chapter.

To play devil's advocate for a moment, under their reasoning, pointing out the fact that you also paid money for the game doesn't undermine their point at all. By their logic, anyone who paid money for the game is entitled to play however they want, meaning that you get to play how you want (respectfully) and they get to play how they want (disrespectfully).

Personally, I think you're absolutely right, but it comes down to what system of morality you subscribe to. If you believe that morality is objective, things like sportsmanship and common courtesy make perfect sense. But you'll never convince someone who believes that they have no obligation to the people around them unless they receive something from them first to adhere to those kinds of values, because it doesn't make any rational sense according to their worldview.

  • @ReddIveee said:

I'm currently a rank 10 killer and if I do well in a match like kill all the survivors the very next match i'll get survivors that completely run over me. lol so if i do bad then the very next match i'll be back playing potato and trash survivors who are too easy. It seems to be no middle ground with the new ranking system. If you do "well' you get paired with just random other people that did 'well' their last game no matter what rank. It's honestly awful i've been playing consistently since rank reset and have only managed to move down like 1 or 2 levels because every time i gain a pip with the trash survivors i lose it the very next round with the purple and red rank swf.

The new ranking system hasn't been implemented yet, so if there appears to be a pattern in the skill levels of the players you get matched with, there shouldn't be, and it's almost certainly purely coincidental.

Ok I don't know what happened, I replied to your comment and my reply just got deleted xD

Sorry for the few words of this message but I don't remember all I wrote in the previous reply I made

In a generall way I was writing that I totally understant your point of view and I was also thanking you so much for taking your time to wirte all that information as I didn't know much of that before and it greatly changed my point of view, for example, with those individual aspects of devs. Of course this is a business and they need to have profit. There are just a few things I think it would be great to change, you know.

Knowing that this isn't against game rules, I think it would be very nice that devs reconsider that that killers shoud be punnished more heavilly when camping as it dramatically breaks the enjoyable part of tha game.

Anyway, many games I played before cared so much about the errors causing prejudice to players that they were regularly giving players bonus to compensate that. It would be very nice if this game does it too, but I don't think of that happening unfortunately.

My overall impression is that devs are not focusuing enough on correcting those errors and this might have been the principal reason I wrote my previous text, but it may be very difficult I know, specially distinguishing crash errors and the abbandon action. I know that in terms of condition I agrred to accept them but that does not mean it would be very great and it would make sense to have some sort of compensation sometimes as it would really improve tha game experience.

Concluding, thank you again so much for writing the text and giving all this information as it changed my mind and, consequently, made me happier with the devs and feel that, in fact, they personally care about us. :)

Your reply probably just got stuck in the spam filter. Don't worry, it came through.

Anyway, I'm very glad to hear that! I honestly was not expecting such a positive response at all 😊

Camping is a difficult thing to address, because it's not fun for the survivors, but sometimes it is the smart and reasonable play on the killer's part, and I don't think it's fair to punish killers for playing well in that context. Personally, I think that if anything is to be done about it, incentivising killers to leave the hook would be more effective than punishing them for staying nearby.

For what it's worth, I also think better customer service, more events, faster bug fixes, etc. would be nice as a player. But knowing that the devs are almost certainly aware that doing those things would improve player satisfaction and thereby grow the playerbase, and would therefore be in their best interests as a business, leads me to the conclusion that the only rational reason for them not to be doing those things is that they are already doing the best they can with the resources they have available.

Having said that, I would absolutely encourage you to keep giving feedback on the forums, keep making respectful requests for features that you would like to see in the game, take the player satisfaction surveys, etc., because it does make a difference. Even if they can't grant all those requests for other reasons, at the very least it puts the idea out there and lets the devs know that this is something that's on the minds of their players.

  • With all that being said above, grey ranks are supposed to be able to be paired with players of any rank (that is, it's not a bug or anything). Obviously the game prioritises players closer to their own rank if possible, but generally there aren't enough new players (yellow/grey ranks) around at any given time to reliably match them with one another. That's why there is no limit on how far away in rank grey ranked players can be matched with, because the game assumes they would rather have a badly-matched game than no game at all (which is what they might get if the matchmaking rules were stricter).

There are obviously issues with this though, which is why, as FireHazard mentioned, the devs are planning to roll out a new and improved matchmaking system in the near future.

  • @FireHazard @FilledPizza They're not so much "free" on console as they are packaged with the game. The game costs more because the DLCs come with it, not the other way around.

  • @Kwikwitted said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1172612#Comment_1172612

Again, I'm not advocating for tilting, or raging, or calling someone a bad name if they beat you, you won't win every time nor should you expect to ESPECIALLY if you play killer, but just shrugging and going "lol it's just a game" isn't exactly the best alternative either.

The ideal reaction to losing a game is introspection and reflection, looking at the mistakes you made, where you went wrong, what you could have done differently, how to adjust in the future, and possible solutions. Is your perk build optimal? Are you using the best addons? Do you have some map offerings you could burn to slant a game to a more killer or survivor sided map? These are reasonable reactions to a loss, but just basically saying "lol it's just a game" accomplishes none of this, you will just perpetuate the cycle and not get better, which at that point it begs the question why are you playing? Don't you have to all but learn to enjoy loss at that point?

Think of it like this, how frustrated do you get when one of your teammates on survivor side just is a full potato, can't loop, gets caught easily, goes for bad unhooks getting both you and them downed, all the hallmarks of a team drag. So you get to after-game chat and you try to explain what they did, why it was a bad idea, and the response you get is "lol it's just a game". Don't tell me that's not going to annoy you to some degree, because their lack of caring is now hurting your experience.

At least in this instance killers not caring only hurts themselves.

I understand and agree for the most part with what you're saying, but I don't think that not caring if you lose and the ability to reflect on a loss and use it for future improvement are mutually exclusive.

Learning to enjoy yourself even if you lose is a valuable skill, because realistically, most people will lose at least 50% of the competitive games they play, and if you can't enjoy a game regardless of whether you win, you're going to have a bad time. That's what it means to not care if you lose - not that you don't care about improving your skills, but that you ultimately care more about enjoying yourself (and in many cases, improving your skills in the process) than you do about beating your opponent(s).

It's not so much enjoying the loss itself as it is not letting the loss define the game. It's actually a very healthy attitude to have, and for some people, keeping things in perspective by reminding themselves that it is just a game (which, after all, is not untrue) helps them achieve that. And it's absolutely possible to play for fun and not worry about losing while simultaneously analysing your own gameplay, noticing your mistakes and thinking about where you can improve for next time.

  • Remember to add your platform, otherwise the mods will probably mark the thread as "Needs More Info" 😊

  • @Kwikwitted said:

So.....basically your solution is "just stop caring and you won't be tilted".

What a new and exciting idea! This has clearly never been suggested before and will solve all the problems with the game!

No one is saying the game doesn't have problems or that the problems don't matter, but as long as they do exist, isn't it better to find a way to cope cheerfully than to get yourself worked up and angry every game?

We don't always get to choose the circumstances we face, but we do get to choose how to respond to them.

  • It's not the Deathslinger specifically, though. Opponents who can grab me and drag me towards them have always made me irrationally angry in games (Blitzcrank/Thresh in League is another example).

  • I haven't noticed anything personally, but if you do have issues with it, I'd recommend making a thread about it in the Bug Reporting sub-forum: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/bugs

  • I once had someone DC on me during EGC as I was carrying them to their death hook. I asked them why in the end-game chat, to which they replied "didn't want to give a kill to a [bundle of sticks]".

Pretty much goes without saying that I wasn't tunnelling or camping, he was just a really sore loser.

  • I'll start by addressing some of the specific points you made. FIrstly, camping isn't against the rules, nor should it be, so the fact that they don't ban people for doing it is hardly an indication that the developers don't care about their players. Neither is the fact that they don't do everything their critics tell them they should - anyone who works in any kind of collaborative field will tell you that just because someone doesn't take all of the feedback they receive on board doesn't mean they're not listening to it. As a designer, I can bear first-hand witness to that fact.

Yes, there are problems with the game. Yes, some of them aren't fixed yet, and for some we haven't received any word on whether there are even plans to fix them. It doesn't logically follow, however, that the developers "don't even try to change" these features that are causing problems, because we simply cannot know that. And with every new patch that comes out with new features, there are dozens of bugs and old features that get updated. You could argue that there is too much new content and not enough fixes, or that things aren't getting fixed quickly enough, but you can't legitimately say that they only put out new content and never correct existing errors.

Regarding compensation, BHVR doesn't seem to be in the habit of handing out rewards to players who are affected by bugs. None of us can know for sure why that is - maybe it's too technically difficult or time-consuming, maybe they don't have the infrastructure to make it possible, maybe they consider it a waste of resources. But regardless, it's not something we should feel entitled to. We did sign an agreement that said that from a legal entitlement standpoint, we accept the game as it is, bugs and all, so they don't owe us compensation of any kind. If they want to do something like that, it would be nice, and maybe it would be profitable for them in the long run by growing the playerbase, but that's up to them.

It's important to remember that BHVR is, first and foremost, a business. That doesn't mean that all their employees are heartless monsters, but it does mean that they will generally prioritise the interests of the business over those of individual customers. At that same time, it's worth noting that keeping the players happy is in the best interests of the business, which is why we have dev streams and sales and Blood Hunts and other things that basically only exist to improve the players' experience. But as a company, no, BHVR doesn't "care" about us in the way that one "cares" for one's friends, nor should we expect it to.

On an individual level, however, I believe that the devs do care about the players. Peanits, for example, one of the Community Managers, frequently streams DBD in the evenings and answers questions from the chat about the game and the team while doing so, just because he's nice, not because it's his job. Almo, one of the Game Designers, spends a lot of his free time outside of work answering player questions and responding to feedback on the forums, which he is likewise in no way professionally obliged to do. I've seen others doing the same in places like Discord and Twitter. In my opinion, the fact that individual members of the development team take time out of their personal lives to interact with players demonstrates that they do care on a personal level about the game and its community.

In summary: Does BHVR as an entity care about the players? Only to the extent that it's profitable for the business. Do individual members of the development team personally care about the players? Signs point to yes.

  • It may be the campfire, but the other possibility, if it's a new sound, is that what you're hearing is the vulture in the new Chains of Hate-themed lobby. He occasionally squawks and makes pecking noises as part of his idle animation, and he's audible in all lobbies, I believe, even if you can't see him.

So you're right, if that is the case, then he probably got banned for something totally unrelated (either way though, the fact remains that it is still technically possible to get banned by EAC for changing the files, even though it's not likely and seems not to have happened in this case).

people do that ? Well that explains all the wrAithFK I encountered

Yep, people like to go AFK as killer to farm XP, especially with Wraith because survivors can't find and farm bloodpoints off him. It's arguably against the game rules and therefore potentially bannable, though, so I wouldn't recommend doing it.
