If your team does gens the penalty is that killer immediately loses, why is this so hard for survivors to understand?! No wonder the game is being watered down so heavily if survivors have such sheer difficulty with "1+2 = ?" Level problems. It's so easy I love getting facecamped with kindred equipped, it singlehandedly beats the killer
-
Indeed, it's apparently NEXT Week because I was stupid enough to think they'd have the guts to look at the questions before ramming ths ruin nerf down our throats. My mistake

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLAY SURVIVOR, KILLER MAINS. You need to get face camped to death repeatedly, it's "a legit strategy."
As all the gens bang off instantly because the killer spent 40 seconds at the hook, it's a LOSING strategy
-
There was supposed to be, or maybe they got the date mixed up in their posts like they did with the rift
-
Truth is the devs DON'T care about killers, just quit now before you get addicted like me
-
I'm telling new killers to just quit, it's not worth it
-
I enjoy how 80% of this thread is just Peanits getting owned by people pointing out obvious flaws in the dev's logic
-
You can sorta tell because one guy is really eager to bait you to loops or protect specific survivors so I go out of the way to ignire them and slaughter the others asap

Nancy and steve are everywhere, but Demogorgon is sorta bad tho

Swf was never intended to make it into the game- the idea was to be "blind" and have to rely on strangers to save you. But SWF saved the game, unfortunately... and Its a MASSIVE reason that survivors are so OP because a SWF can communicate your every move to one another, and you're right about the totem. One sees it and it's gone instantly.. swf needs a rework. It needs a rank limmit on who you can queue with, no more of this rank two 20s and two rank 1s in a group so they can bully and if we could take away mic we should- but we cant.
Some games on console can block party chat, I don't know why they don't try

We are not. We have mentioned multiple times that if something needs to change about gen times, we're happy to take a look into it. Unfortunately we cannot do that when 80% of red ranked killers are using a perk that covers it up- it makes it impossible to tell what actually needs to be done. We'll keep an eye on it.
Dude, the problem is that we killers don't necessarily trust you'll follow through on that after the nerf.
Like when all charge times were supposed to be buffed the 15% that Tinkerer added when that perk was changed and you guys just never did it and everyone forgot. We'd har far more trust and confidence about what's happening to ruin if you'd kept that promise.
Also your data collection methodology should be subject to more in house scrutiny IMO because it seems so oddly disconnected from people's experiences.

That would be very interesting honestly. Never paid attention if any of the survivors I faced in a match was running Iron Will. I honestly doubt that's the cause, but who knows.
They usually don't have iron will

Play with your food, BBQ and Chili, Furtive Chase, and Make your choice is one of my favorites. Wraith can instantly end a chase by cloaking and get a stack without losing too much ground. Furtive chase switches the obsession to their rescuer and lets you know who's exposed. With the speed and uncloaking addons It's surprisingly powerful, Otz has a video called "2 Fast 2 Bong" on YouTube. He had rancor but I didn't like it over bbq. Another good build is with sloppy, nurses, thanatophobia and bbq/pop
-
I have Astro A50s and I hear every sound PERFECT as survivor, but as killer in most of my matches everything is muffled. Billy's saw is almost muted along with survivor footsteps and breathing while music is at full volume. It's very noticable. I wonder if it may be an iron will bug of some kind where if one survivor brings IW it applies the sound reduction to all sound effects heard by killer from all sources, even the rest of the team
-
I have a friend who looks (and probably smells) just like the clown but without makeup and more hair. He also vapes.
-
I'd be so happy if I could activate all pig traps by manually opening the gate because I'd have an excuse to say "Game On!"
-
I really hate slugging because I was traumatized by Unbreakable when I first started playing, it's a tough instinct to break
-
I'm fairly decent on console with everyone except oni nure and billy (learning billy now tho) and there's a lot to get used to that I don't think most people on pc are even aware of. If the game starts lagging or the aim assist malfunctions it gets really tough to land hits. It gets worse after most patches and you'll want to avoid red ranks at all costs

At this rate the only change to reduce killer frustration they could add would be the option to stab yourslef with your weapon at any point in the match
I shouldn't admit this but sometimes killer is so extremely stressful when I'm trying to use it as an outlet to calm down I compulsively DO with whatever's handy

I asked why you have such a problem with me in a different topic and you ignored it, so hopefully you'll discuss it here. Please stop spreading bullshit. I use Ruin on almost all of my killers so I have no idea why you or anyone even thinks I have that mindset. Its extremely annoying. Stop.
I was going to respond with something thought out when I had more time to write it up, I was impressed that you're willing to talk it over and was mostly upset by the attitude thrown at tru3 over the last several weeks. I know you haven't been feeling well lately and I wanted to cool off on it since I didn't want to make things worse. I've been having problems with poor sleep and feeling awful all the time since November (which definitely makes me more of a jerk than usual). This game is one of the last places I can go that still helps me deal with it and all the nerfs have been making the anxiety a lot worse about if it can still be that place, and the optics on a lot of your statements about them just compund it. I've been referring to you as a representative example of the people who think "all these changes that are awesome and if someone disagrees then they're stupid or bad at the game" because that was the impression in a lot of your early analysis even if not what you actually believe and that isn't fair to you if you don't hold those opinions, I apologize for mischaracterizing you on that and I'm especially sorry if I made your other problems worse, you don't deserve that.

Not good for both sides. A SWF group could have someone sit on the gate and keep it ready to open while the others make a save, while a solo group wouldn't be able to coordinate that. The end result is the same, but the gap between solo and SWF groups would be larger.
That's one less person helping the rescue and making it riskier to try, how does that not help even out the odds against swf? I just don't see how that isn't clearly better
-
It'll make rift leveling easier since it goes purely by matches played through rather than actual performance

I initially had low aspirations to play as her (console player) before the changes and while I understood she could be really strong, I knew personally I wasn't that good with her. That said, I still occasionally played her for fun, even getting a couple Kills or getting a good Blink made me happy. I somewhat practiced with her as I felt I COULD do well with focus, tho Pig and Michael Myers were way more to my style & how I had fun.
The changes came, with no regard to console players (whom I feel suffer from the changes a bit more) and, in my experience, how little she as played or seen. I played about a dozen games with the changes and I just...didnt have fun at all, even in a "I know I'll prob suck in this match, but give it my all" attitude...I couldn't gleam any fun of it....so I jus ended up trolling and "farming" with Survivors during that time's event. Every player I was matched with seemed to understand and pity me as Nurse and weren't really afraid when seeing me...VS when I'd be literally any other Killer.
Even looking at the DBD players I follow on YouTube, none of em have any Nurse videos recently. Maybe there are God Tier Nurse players out there, maybe some do very well...but the big takeaway is that a LOT of players...just aren't having fun with her on multiple levels.
Totally correct, she just doesn't work reliably on console and you can't even develop the muscle memory since the time/distance calculation seems different whenever you hit the trigger

I used to have fun trying to play her on console. I rarely 4k'd with her or anything, but blinking was fun and a challenging mechanic to try to master.
Playing as her isn't fun, anymore. It's a chore.
I plan to play as her again at some point, memeing around not blinking (and no, not using the movement speed add-on), but lately I've been more focused on earning BP and less on doing dumb crap that earns nothing.
You needed 2 blinks to correct for the sluggish controller responses, I was learning her on console but she just spends far too much time stunned now to make it feel worth the trouble. Kinda like how oni has a huge cooldown on everything related to his power and I swear feels like he moves at 4.2

Literally every killer main: Ruin nerf? Haha I'm quitting and BHVR is going to lose all of its money bye BHVR.
It was an actual concern because I didn't think BHVR had anything else going for it before I started the thread, related to the feedback loop of matchmaking times where killers start quitting that others have described here in better detail

As long as we're throwing out ideas, how about we make it so downing a person who is inside the Exit Gate areas prevents them from leaving the trial for a few seconds? Just long enough for the Killer to be able to pick them up. That way, people who linger within the Exit Gates (especially to wait for the Killer to down them so they can fall into the exit) instead of just GTFOing do so at their own peril.
When they hang out by the gate to troll in perfect safety is the source of much of the toxicity. The fun factor of otherwise decent matches are ruined so frequently by it that your idea would probably improve the health of the community quite a bit
-
I always wanted a Buff to Blood Warden that gives them Exposed while inside the gates and persists along with the aura reading for 10 seconds if they head back into the map (while the perk is active with the 10 seconds on a separate timer so thay can't run back in with 5 seconds left and lose the status

We tried gate regression in early EGC tests. It was... not a good thing.
I'm not saying anyone is silly for suggesting it! But if you could play with it, you'd see it felt really bad. :)
Not good for survivors that wanted to stick around to bully the killer or actually not good overall for both sides

@Nescau said:
Toolboxes are not the core problem, they are simply an aggravating factor to the gen times issue. Early game is very Survivor-sided, because Survivors can start progressing their objective immediately while Killer spends time patrolling, chasing, downing and finally getting a Survivor in the hook, not to mention the actual pressure to unhook won't start until the second Survivor is injured except for 1-shot Killers. It's no surprise that in high level matches, 2 or 3 gens pop by the time the Killer hangs the first Survivor.
Old Ruin addressed many gen speed questions:
- It increased gen times by punishing good skill checks and preventing great skill check bonus.
- It created a secondary objective since many Survivors didn't want to power through the perk.
- It soft-countered Toolboxes, because the item's skill check rate increase made hex skill checks more present.
Hex: Ruin was to DBD what the Force of Will card is to the vintage/legacy format in Magic: the Gathering: the (overpowered) glue that holds the gameplay together, a necessary evil. In other words, now that the glue was removed, devs have to manually fix each problem band-aided by it.
My suggestions:
- Give each Killer their own gen time and make 90 seconds for Billy as the standard. Generators for every Killer stronger than Billy should take 80 seconds or less to complete (this would allow baseline Old Nurse to come back at 70 seconds or less, for exemple, and prevent Spirit from getting further nerfs). Killers weaker than Billy should take 100 seconds or more. It would be a lot more balanced for someone like Clown if Survivors needed 110 seconds to complete a gen.
- Start designing a legit secondary objective ASAP. It would probably take a long time to release, something like setember 2020 or beyond, but better late than never.
- Make Toolboxes require more skill to use. For example, instead or passively increasing gen speed, make them give a greater bonus upon hitting a great skill check.
If those problems are not addressed, or if devs keep don't do anything in a very timely manner, this game is gonna get boring really soon for both sides. Having to hold back as a Survivor so your opponent has time to breathe on one side and feeling like a helpless, bullied NPC on the other while also having to deal with an oppressive grind: if that PTB is a representation of DBDs future, we are in very dark times indeed.
Force of Will in legacy is a great analogy; so many matches are literally decided by coin flip and the mere existence of FoW prevents everyone from going all in all the time without risk. Without it there's nothing checking the worst combos from being pure variance, and while Ruin isn't as reliable as FoW it still plays a similar role. Not having to consider it will have an impact

Personally, I only play Freddy and I put 3 perks against the generators and bbc. most of the time it goes very well (I play rank 1) (I am main survivor)
the "gen rush" is very rare, it is occasional, for example, on 10 games, there will be 1 single or 2 big maximum where there will be "gen rush"
After that, I play Freddy, so it’s a lot easier to get by playing Freddy than it is to play spectrum.
I don’t feel "gen rush" often, the problem is that I don’t play other killers, with other killers these statistics are necessarily different.
all this to say that I think playing killer with 3 perks against the generators is a good idea.
PS : I am really sorry for my bad english, its very difficult for me to speack in english, i use translater for writing this comment.
The "gen rush" happens every game you play in a 12 hour session at red ranks

If you mean in the Q&A thread, that's because the Q&A post is for the 3.5.0 update only. We put it right at the top stating that only questions about the update are going to be selected, and others are going to be deleted. This is the same thing we do for every Q&A thread, or else we'd end up with a bunch of off topic questions.
We are not currently looking into removing the blink recharge mechanic. The changes seems to have had the intended effect and experienced Nurse players are still able to do very well with her.
"The intended effect" == effectively deleting Nurse from the game because veterans can't use her anymore and new players won't want to spend hours in stun cooldowns to try learning

Just because you and many others relied on ruin to play the game does not make it a core perk needed to make the game function.
I've never even unlocked the perk as a teachable perk (it's the only killer perk that isn't teachable and I own all the DLC's for this game). I still manage to get to red ranks each season (With the new reset, I'll never be able to leave them).
It's not a core mechanic, its a perk many have relied on and will have to learn to play without it, like many of us have already done.
Now if you play certain killers, like trapper, yes it's going to be harder, however after this ruin change, they can look into balancing killers and not have to worry about balancing them around a single perk.
I don't often play ruin but having it available for the 4 man swf that I encounter nonstop for hours helped

Also quite a few of my deaths were due to the button not registering I was hitting it during struggle phase, I'll be mashing it like you're suppose to and it just cuts out 30 seconds early, that's been the most difficult part of survivor thusfar. I streamed the entire thing on my twitch. I slept maybe 7 hours those 3 days and probably dropped some language I'm deeply ashamed of though. I did get a few friendly killers for some of the more bs challenges, and liked giving the clearly outmatched new killers tips. I sent apology messages if I had to use flashlights

sounds reasonable.
How was your experience when playing survivor? Did something change for you?
I was more convinced how easy survivor was, and how truly unfair gen speed really is. I got to rank 9 and can barely do skillchecks. Not the best at chases either but I know how to burn their time very well. Ruin skillchecks and doctor were surprisingly not bad at all, I was surprised how little effect madness has on survivors, it took me a few tries to snap out of it but otherwise I felt pretty safe. Plus I can hit great skillchecks easier if there's 2-3 stacks of huntress lullaby. Didn't see a single clown yet, I'm least afraid of oni since I know how weak and clumsy he is. After several easy escapes in a row it's surprising to get downed. My next few killer games after knowing how survivors run were straightup exterminations.

I only played killer for years and was forced into playing survivor by the challenges recently. I've only been playing survivor on twitch to track the time spent and have roughly 22 hours of survivor to 1.2k hours of killer. I came from F13th and hated the random nature of who got killer, so never had any interest until the rift. I'm on console and we don't have access to good stats so I hated compromising my playtime data
-
Lol killer nerfs are inherently survivor buffs by definition

I would hesitate to say that this is because of balance, but either way, I would absolutely suggest reporting stuff like that. We have a team of people reviewing reports and we do not tolerate that.
I'd argue it's a direct consequence of balance, survivors can get away with far too much in matches and there's no risk to messing with the killer in most cases

I'm going to try to say this as peacefully as possible. When you say the first gens go fast, you are referring to the first 3 gens, which is 60% of a survivors objective. In this time the killer can get 1 or 2 hooks. In comparison that is 2 gens left and either 1 survivor on death hook or 2 survivors on second hook.
It is borderline impossible to recover from that, even if all your chases are like 20 - 30 seconds long, survivors can just power through the last 2 gens. To put it simple we cannot kill the survivors at all in just 2 gens. Its just too easy for them to get them done. This is due to so many things getting in the way, mainly map sizes and god buildings/loops. However even if these weren't a problem gens would fly by anyway.
Us killers didn't care that it was passive, what we cared about is that it had pressure at the start of the game. I bet you if it had killer input it would still be used 80% of the time.
This i don't think you are understanding: Old ruin applied pressure EARLY game, when 60% of the survivors objective is being done. We do NOT want a perk (specifically a hex perk) that applies pressure LATE game. That is not what we used ruin for. We needed something to battle the early game and ruin was the only thing we had.
And... please, we honestly don't care about our gatekeeper, that's not why we used it. We used it to prevent 60% of the survivors objective being done in under 90 seconds.
Finally, the fact that you can stand strong against so many complaints doesn't show your confidence, it shows a sign of a massive disconnect between the community and the dev team. And if you think this change will be "good in the long run", then you have HEAVILY misunderstood the core mechanics of dead by daylight and what the community wants.
👏👏👏
