  • Just generic whiners? Those happen anytime something happens in this game, or if the developers so much as sigh :P

I believe you that the whiners exist. Just not that it qualifies as something worth paying attention to when there's issues that more of the base agree on.

  • "Wah, I need a Mori"

Killer main here - moris are for cowards and insecure people. Same for tunnels, camps, and NOED. Even if you actually have skill, these are evidence that you don't think it's enough to secure kills, and frankly each promotes lazy play and the stagnation of overall skill.

  • I also received an email with nothing being given in Steam inventory or into my account.

I followed all the rules, and played an extra match when a killer DCed just in case.

@Peanits is there someone to talk to for some transparency?

  • I wasn't aware that people 'freaked' over Tome II. There was a glitch that let people see Tome IV early, though, and it is a bit ridiculous/promotes toxic play.

  • Pretty sure it was hashed out from her responses to light and details about her makeup that Entity-chan is a sapient fungus with heavily arthropod-influenced characteristics.

  • Honestly, I'll admit that as a Pig main I'm a bit biased. Top three, for me at least, would be Pig, Bubba, then Other: a lot of the perks and addons need updates to have consistent language and to reflect the updates in meta and QoL in the modern game, so a general perk/add-on pass is preferable to having more killers worked on immediately, most of whom are already decently placed for low-mid rank play.

Pig's gotten the shaft pretty much every update since launch, so it's a no-brainer to me.

Bubba definitely needs some help, though, considering his playstyle lends itself to toxicity while also being less unique as far as addons go than he deserves - the rush to get him out denied a proper map and survivor, too.

  • Depends on how relaxed I am. More stressed, I'll only get 1 out of 5. Relaxed, I'll hit 4-5 out of 5.

Other people on the gen, or even gentapping, will kinda screw with me though. I'll even fail some checks there.

  • @Liruliniel

Messed up the perk name - Make Your Choice, not Hangman's Choice. Doesn't help I was in a call about DbD while typing :P

But yeah. Devour + MYC = easy stacks against cowards, they compliment each other well.

  • @Jejune

I'm down for removal/reworking of the perk. I think Leatherface could use some love, incentivize hunting over camping.

  • @GrootDude said:

I’ve met plenty of Leatherface players who didn’t camp and I use to main him in red ranks while keeping camping as a rare thing.

I'm a Pig main, but I make a point of cycling through the roster in low-mid rank games. I thoroughly enjoy playing Leatherface with Hangman's and Devour, even if the 5-stack is rare sometimes. Plenty of LF peeps aren't pricks, but his ability does lend itself to the sorry practice.

  • Killer main here, just feeling bad for people so inept that they have to resort to camping or tunnels to get kills.

Honestly, we should address the toxic killers who think CaMpInG iS a LeGiTiMaTe StRaTeGy is a healthy, non-pathetic thing to say. It's evidence that the killer involved has no ability to actually maintain a skill level in a versus game, and no intention of developing one.

Addressing perks like Insidious is a good first step toward improving QoL for this game.

  • Confirmed in testing: I moried everyone

However, Furtive Chase and Decisive Strike don't proc the Nemesis effect.

  • Being called a camper and tunneler when I got off my 5-stack Devour Hope/Make Your Choice meme build for 4 moris before the poor twitchers even had a gen done.

Like, guys, it's a perk combo that literally only works if I'm not camping, and I was incentivized to only go after rescuers - and in a game with 4 DS and 3 BT, none of them procced :P

  • The stagger is useful for map travel. People honestly waste a lot of time by waiting to trigger exhaustion perks, when if you're attentive the difference you're able to get away and loop anyway.

  • Hawkins doesn't need a rework, an infected gamemode just sounds like another generic zombie clone and misses the point of DbD's design, and I already have all the killers - but I love me some lore.

  • I tested this. The killer's break animations take priority over the survivor's perk, regardless of how far along the survivor is in their animation.

  • I'm getting punished in the PTB for the unstable game crashing, so yeah. This has an effect on 'accidental dcs'

  • As I said elsewhere, I already have most of the cosmetics getting released, and I'm not going to complain about other people getting to enjoy them. I don't hook my self-worth on validating myself though shinies in a game, and frankly it's insulting to a reasonable person to try to foist that mindset as something worth having. I got what I did through work and investment, and I feel good about that. Just because other people won't have to do the same doesn't invalidate or diminish my experience - it's just petty to think that way.

  • Pretty much the only exclusives I don't have would have required me to leave my country of origin. More than half of that list represents some investment from me, and I fully support their free release. Might be nice to get some BP, auric cells, or maybe a free rift access, but honestly I'm not complaining.

  • @Drummerman74

Pretty sure the mask/gown combo is from later in the series. Halloween 4? Haven't watched them for a decade.

  • I try to give pointers to my fellow oinkers if I see suboptimal strategy (tunneling people with active RBTs is annoyingly common). Most other killers I either don't care enough to give pointers, genuinely think they played well, or I don't have enough respect for their playstyle to say something nice.

  • Loops = Win as survivor. Learning to loop is how you give yourself breathing room to learn other mechanics better.

Altruistic actions are also the quickest way to pip.

So run around and heal peeps

  • Removing Moris isn't the solution. Reworking them to discourage tunnels is.

They should probably require the survivor be on death hook, that the killer has hooked other people too, or both.

  • I run it maybe a fifth of the time, because I rotate out my 4th slot. It's not meta, it's just one of many isolated counters in the game.

  • If someone's answer to tunnels and camps is "this is fine", they're not exactly someone whose opinion should be valued.

This community does respond better to carrots than to sticks, though. New perks/powers/addons that specifically draw killers away from hooks or somehow give hooked survivors more survivability if they're being camped are a better solution.

  • Some of my issues with creepypasta in games come pretty specifically from Legion/Jeff :P My confidence in BHVR isn't always the strongest, and they cited Jeff as an influence - instant red flag. If they took Slenderman and did the research, I'm pretty sure they could make something properly scary and fun to play against - they're unlikely to do so, with the Slenderman Stabbing case resurfacing in the news. My attitude towards creepypastas in games hovers near more specific things, like how SCP get treated - 106 is basically Demogorgon with a rotten smile, and 173/Weeping Angels suffer from Ghostface's PTB problems but worse.

It should be noted that I typically only post here during wait times for matches, so if there's a hint of stress I apologize.

Rake could work, though. I'm not saying creepypasta can't be effective, but the stories and culture around creepypasta are very much geared toward youth and are such a mixed bag in terms of actual creep/scare factor - it's hard to have confidence in BHVR's ability to sift through it all and make a decent contribution to Dead by Buglight.

  • Legion is a discount Ghostface mixed with Jeff the Killer anyway. Some people don't find clowns scary, but coulrophobia is in the top 20 most common phobias.

Slenderman the Trenderman just wants $20, cuz your wife is in the club; he's just too prolific in the meme department. Slenderman himself was scary, but The 8 Pages and Marble Hornets did a little too much 'showing the monster' with the version known as The Operator - the suit with no face, versus the eldritch shapeshifter of the original.

  • I'd appreciate that Mori much more than the "slightly altered Trapper hack'n'slash" we currently have.

  • @Mr_K

I'd prefer not to misquote matt_bhvr when talking about the game, much less talk about a pointy barbershop quartet whose power encourages sharper divides between BM and regular gaming.

  • They really could have gone for a batter aesthetic for the hospital gown, too.

At least it's something in the movies though. Is shirtless Myers?

  • Keep in mind Billy is their gold standard for game balance.

Devs listen to feedback for one purpose: to know where to start looking. It's rare they take the community's advice on how to actually go about improving QoL and gameplay though.

  • Should we add a feature to the forum to block belligerent people?

Cuz you'd be the top of a few lists right now, AlexisFox.

  • Sally was insane and in a car crash. Considering the bag on her head, I don't think her victims are the only ones who croaked. Blinking is also both supposedly not fully entering the Spirit World (subject to clarification of the phrase "As she doesn't entirely enter it...") and extremely painful.

Perhaps the Wailing Bell is an artefact that keeps Phillybuns safe from the harmful aspects of physically entering a plane of soulrending energy.

EDIT: I also think the differences between the Ethereal and Spirit worlds should probably be clarified. Bugs me in RPGs, bugs me in video games, but that's all something for another discussion.

  • Personally, I'd like it to be addressed that he's the only character with access to the Spirit World who hasn't died. Perhaps the bell is related.

  • The Wraith writeup suggests that his design is based on one of the classic designs of the Grim Reaper: Tall, lanky, skeletal, carrying a tool of harvest and a bell. His original name was Banshee, which would also tie into the tolling of a bell if you go far back enough into RL lore.

Phil sees himself as a personification of death, and The Entity sees no reason to disagree.

  • @Milo

I did say there were some obvious exceptions :P

  • Nope.

Despite outward appearance and some obvious exceptions, this is a horror game, where tension and stress is part of the experience. Creepypasta is rather solidly in the realm of joke fodder, especially Jeff-boi - if you're scared of creepypasta, you're too young to be playing this game.

  • IriHead is unfun, sure. Moris (at least, how they're used, moris in and of themselves aren't the problem) are similarly F-tier playstyle-wise.

  • The current nerf means they're not instant: one gives endurance and one heals equivalent to Inner Strength. They're already relatively rare, I say take away the 'use up the kit' and replace it with 'use up the addon'

  • @AssumedName You're running Legion?

Monitor potentially gets in the way of Killer Instinct and Nurse's. Ruin, Thana+Sloppy combo, and either Nurse's or Pop would be ideal.

  • If it helps, this particular demogorgon is the one from Kamchaka - if it has a nationality, it's Russian :P

  • Farming isn't ever bannable. The last two survivors tend to be screwed, and if the first two were bad enough to die early (or the killer was insecure enough in their own skill to tunnel/mori) the killer kinda needs to farm the last two in order to not depip/derank with the current system.

  • "People should shut up about Nurse!"

    *makes new topic about Nurse*

    *types a paragraph about Nurse*

Learn to operate with praxis, kiddo.

  • Doesn't really answer the question. The 'lore' reasons make sense, and I didn't question them, but the mechanics and execution have been off-base for pretty much any effective event - there's not much more than that lore separating the 'event' from a typical skin pack. Putrid serum, the skins, they're not unique or mechanically relevant, and as such I'm still asking: what is the point?

I suppose if the answer is "that's it," okay, sure. Seems a mite disappointing though.

  • Tunnels are wrong for a killer to even consider, most of the time. Bad for BP, bad for emblems, bad for gen defence, bad for improving personal skill in the game.

Just as far as personal preference goes, it's unfun too. It's honestly pathetic encountering or hearing about people who seem perversely proud of admitting they're no good at a game, relying on tunnels, camps, ebonies, or NOED to get even one kill.

  • Both is better

  • When something in the game glitches out too heavily in favour of the killer, I tend to let the survivors meme around. World holes were a blast.

Weirdest single thing I found, though? One survivor, clearly good at looping, apparently had a build to find other survivors and kept leading me to them. She helped me hunt them down, then went so stealth that it took me 20 minutes after the last one was dead to find her. She'd also brought a key, but basically let herself die anyway.

  • Bisexual, mental and physical disabilities - a good chunk over the ages some people are posting, but nowhere near 50 :P

Age and experience does help developing a sense of humour so I can laugh at how sad some players must be to behave the ways they do :P

  • It kinda sucks having everything bound to the same few keys, yeah.

Killers have it especially rough, because it means a lot of killers have no choice but to move awkwardly to pick people up or perform interactions - because one will supercede the other, with little rhyme or reason.

  • I'm not down with more teleporting/phasing characters. Stealth? Sure. Teleportation isn't actually something in Slenderman lore, though, unless you're silly enough to count video game mechanics approximating the lore as lore: what he does in fiction is closer to what the Demogorgon does, opening a hole in a wall to traverse a space between spaces. Not quite teleportation, as both he and people he chooses can enter these holes.

I'd propose a portal that could be opened in any wall then, five at a time or more with addons, as his ability. Either he or survivors may enter these, but survivors travel at half his speed and yell when exiting. As a passive, he could have low speed when out of a chase and seen, but if he's in a chase his speed gradually increases, pausing only when a survivor's camera is trained on him - with his terror radius being proportional to his speed.

If people like the slender sickness ideas, it'd be more lore friendly to have the camera start to jerk when viewing him - similar to the Hag's traps. That could replace the passive suggested above.

The Page Obsession perk idea is too OP, but I like the core concept of making survivors rely on sound for something. Maybe call it Don't Look, and have it progressively blind survivors who look at the killer - while also making all terror radius sounds directional.

I'm Watching you (which I would rename to Always Watching) is a bit OP as well: might I suggest specifically slow vaults and opening exit gates as the only triggers, so that it doesn't overlap with other perks and focuses on the quiet actions people do.

No Escape is just a no-skill version of Blood Warden plus an anti-Left Behind feature. It's ridiculously OP - but might I suggest making it just a hex (maybe called Can't Run?) that activates at the end of the game, slows you down 4/5/6%, and reveals everyone's aura? It would combo well with NOED while making both harder to pull off.
