  • I type it when there's a good game. If someone deserves it, they get it, regardless of my personal pointspread at the end. If someone's rude, I'm not gonna give them an insincere 'gg' - and if they're exploiting or actively toxic, I'll respond with all the politeness they deserve.

  • Been getting a lot of red/purple ranked randos (who are playing Adams without Deliverance, Borrowed, or similar more often than not) who don't even wait for killers to finish the hooking animation before running up to the hook.

Honestly, sometimes it seems pretty apparent that there's survivors who are more than willing to screw over their teammates for a few points - made worse by killers enabling that behaviour by slugging the unhook or even tossing them back on the same hook. Plenty of those same survivors kill themselves or DC on their first or second down.

Some of this seems like depipping behaviour, some of it just seems like toxicity for no other reason than ruining other people's time.

  • @arslaN

You know what that means? You have to stand against the pallet to blind Hag/Spirit to compensate, rather than the half-step off people are used to. Simple gameplay adjustment for survivors who bother to learn a skillset, rather than an error or actual problem in the game. Spirit and Hag also have unique vulnerabilities to a flashlight: one has a husk you can burn, and the other has traps you can disable.

  • Any argument that begins with "we should nerf-" is beginning with a faulty premise. Nerfs don't really work with this community, but buffing alternatives does.

  • Since Spirit can be blinded, your OP's kinda silly. Just because blinds have counterplay doesn't mean they're weak or wrong.

  • I've always loved Small Game. I prefer totem hunting to M1 slogs, even when there's not a Ruin. That's also why I prefer maps for objective points :P

I've also always had a soft spot for Devour Hope, despite never protecting it. I get that it's a more regular thing for some, but it's just a thrill when it goes off in a build that otherwise ignores it.

  • @Peanits

Then there's a 'matchmaking issue', because I've gotten both red (heh, typo) and brown ranked killers as rank 4 most recently. IF it happens again, is there a method by which I can help report it so this can be looked at?

  • @Peanits

Correct me if I'm wrong, but longer wait times expand the lobby level range, right? Considering my SWF wait times currently sitting at an average of 7 minutes, sometimes going longer, how much does that expand the game range?

It's happened a few times since the hotfix. Saying it's no longer possible is one thing, but when that's just untrue I don't know what to tell you.

  • I mean, the Isolation Room? The one you get an achievement for getting? Surrounded by an upstairs that's heavily killer-favouring? In a map where halfway decent headphones can detect that room from pretty much anywhere?

It's meant to be the most difficult generator.

  • @Peanits

To be frank, the idea that the only way grey ranks match against red rank killers is through SWF doesn't match with reality. In my SWF teams of green, purple, and red friends, we've been getting paired with ranks 20-15 rather consistently as the odd man out - against killers ranging from 2-18.

  • What about two online matchmaking systems, in addition to KYF/Custom?

Casual: where the SWF lobby is based on party average - heavily reduced BP and no pipping, but everyone's perks they have unlocked are rank 3.

Ranked: where the SWF lobby is based on the highest rank - regular play

  • Isn't Plague fun? Love eating those instaheals :P IF they were gonna be 'nerfed', I'd suggest them just allowing healing speed to go over 100% - reduce it to a 3 second thing to fully heal, 1.5 seconds to heal a state.

Iridescent Heads hasn't ever been reduced to one: it's reduced to however many times Huntress gets to a locker. Cowards tunneling off the hook for moris? Maybe if there were an actual requirement, like them being on death hook, those sweaty killers might develop some actual skill. Prayer Beads needn't be nerfed, but they're the wrong rarity for their effect.

Honestly? It'd be nice seeing devs behave in a way that doesn't make it so radically clear they're rank 18 survivor mains - if they don't play the game, they're not gonna actually know what's in the game since they barely take outside input.

  • Skill checks aren't a buff. Huntress's, Ruin, Overcharge, they're not as useful when you climb the ranks for a reason, because they're a nuisance rather than a barrier.

However, Pig does need some love. It's been pretty clear that she's lowest on the dev's priorities, considering that most every mechanical change implemented for over a year has negatively impacted Pig play - she wasn't that strong to begin with, and while I still get my 4k games I imagine it'd be a nightmare for people new or even moderately skilled at playing her.

Her stealth has been invalidated, her speeds are a joke, her RBTs more limiting on her than on Survivors, the Ambush is more situational than ever because gaining benefit with one perk wasn't equivalent to losing benefit from multiple, et al.

Her 'slowdown' just doesn't exist in a game where 99ing also exists, and it's invalid versus people able to power through and juggle chase - tunnels are how a lot of my fellow Pigs get kills, which is just pathetic, and if that's what development wants: that makes the dev team pathetic in their goals.

  • Slight deviation: I want a map added that's not just another forest. I adore the Hawkins Lab because it's so fresh. Gimme an office building, gimme the home improvement box store from the Ghost Face trailer, gimme a spaceship for all I care, just give me things that make the game a new experience once in a while.

Chucky would suck, Voorhees is better off as a trapper skin, Lecter/Pinhead/most creepypasta don't really work because they're too tied up in their own lore. Alien or The Rake could work, but it would probably be more work than they're willing to invest.

We're probably getting Pennywise, which I'm fine with: but just Pennywise, not IT/Deadlights. The Deadlights as a full creature is on par with or stronger than The Entity, so for the same reason the Mind Flayer isn't in DbD we should avoid the full IT thing.

  • @Mochan

'Nerf' is an actual term meaning reconfiguring to reduce main gameplay effectiveness - since the gameplay stemming from those elements wasn't conducive to that main gameplay, the alteration wasn't a nerf. It might be semantics, but it's as important as the difference between a rework and a revision.

There do need to be more changes, and I'm comfortable saying both sides could use targeted buffs in tandem with each other in order to break up the meta*. I'm just not going to be convinced of people saying survivors [the power role for people with skill] need to buffed in exclusion. I'd love a community-led PTB, though, where they take something like ten to twenty fan-suggested changes/buffs each for killers and survivors - voted on, preferably.

    @joan

No, 40% is the high end of the curve, with both grey/yellow and red ranks averaging there. It's green and purple who die more frequently, and the data has been rather consistent each time it gets released - with consistent errors in data collection, too, including the most recent time which was after the course corrections you mentioned. Keep in mind, the dev's idea of a perfect game includes two dead survivors.

*I'm loving Inner Strength for a good example.

  • Agreed entirely: the lanterns were unique and fun, offering side objectives for both killer and survivor that weren't "in the way of normal play" while also encouraging some deviation. That's an ideal balance for the events, rather than encouraging the "do the same thing as efficiently as possible to farm more of it quicker" bull they're encouraging with the change.

A major concern that @PigNRun brought up in reference to them was that it favoured higher mobility killers: just stick the lanterns on the backs of lunar hooks, have a hook corrupt the lantern on the back of the special hook, job done - especially if you have a few more in by default.

  • Nope. Bad for solo play, bad for new players being brought into the game by friends, bad for wait times from the survivor side. Ambivalent from the killer side, because it doesn't really change anything there.

  • Survivors haven't been nerfed. Full stop. They certainly don't need buffs, even solo play. 5 players in a match, all of equal skill? The killer will lose the majority of the time. Survivors complete the real objective (survive) 40% of the time or more - applied to gameplay, that's usually a black pip for decent killers, if not a depip with corresponding lack of BP, while even a dead survivor can double pip and gain more BP than the killer.

While there were alternate strategies from the meta that were discouraged by changes, they weren't nerfs. When survivors weaponize stealth and sabo-teams, it alters core gameplay - course correction isn't the same as a nerf. While I wish stealth could be brought back, and it is to a slight extent just like sabos being brought back as a little more rewarding while still challenging, BHVR needs to be careful not to outright buff these to the point where they subvert the game again.

  • Other killers need love, but it's pretty obvious that BHVR devs are all low-rank survivors with attitudes to match regarding balance and priorities - it's why Pig is gonna be negatively impacted with every new release until the eventual rework and immediate nerf.

  • If they were farming you for bloodpoints, they may have intentionally been trying to regress the gens a bit, or trying to distract you during a chase like some of my idiot friends have recently decided is a good idea.

  • Report them in-game, report them to Steam or through whatever other service/console you're using. Sad little people being sad little people's just a reality in online multiplayer, but don't focus on the LDE and just go back to having fun.

  • Juking a skilled Nurse isn't a basic skill, and saying otherwise just says you're out of touch. Juking a newbie? That's something that can be learned in a day or less.

Nurse has counterplay, but it requires lateral thinking skills similar to juking a Spirit without the right build. Someone distracted or off their game isn't actually going to be consistent with it, even knowing what to do, because an optimal survivor against a suboptimal killer has a tendency to mindgame themselves if they're overconfident.

  • The original works well with a Self-Care/Botany combos, as well as the new Inner Strength. I like it, frankly, it'd be good for a lot of purple rank builds.

  • They always nerf Pig by introducing a new mechanic, rather than directly touching her - actual changes to her are more lateral than negative. So what mechanics would nerf Pig? Maybe Survivors now get a compass they can use addons for to direct them to their objectives faster - but it automatically sends them to the right Jigsaw Box once their trap is active.

  • @Exerlin

    If I find it again, I'll ping'ya

  • Killers are always allowed to use NOED. It's just a shame when my fellow killers refuse to improve their skill because they've got that safety net. If a genuinely good killer gets kills with it, whatever, but I've rarely seen a NOED in the wild that was played by someone capable of more than 2-5 hooks before activation time.

  • @Exerlin

The period would have actually been the way to go for someone who had English as a second language, maybe. WoO does foster a specific playstyle, and the effect is different than that of Fixated, as was stated pretty clearly by the qualifying phrase.

It was the dev's intention, as stated elsewhere on the forums, but I agree it's not the best way to get to their goals.

  • "I don't like the mechanic acting as intended. It should change to suit my wants, and anyone who disagrees or calls me out on this superficial attitude should be dismissed."

To be clear on what you're saying <3

Pretty typical for these forums, o'course. Take a look at the other replies, maybe you'll get an idea of the waters you're treading.

  • @Exerlin

You might want to read what I write, rather than kneejerk reactions to select phrases. I also didn't claim WoO lead people to off-meta, and I've not put forth my opinion for you to disagree with - I posted the actual answer to OP's question, whether we like it or not.

  • Worth it? No. They attract bad/BMing killer players, and fosters BM from the survivors they face. Legion can be fun, but honestly those moments of fun just don't amount to much compared to the salt incarnate this character generates - and if some sad lil person comes along saying 'i drink the tears, the salt fuels me' or some other memishness, you've just gotten someone who outed themself as unworthy of your time and attention.

  • @Ihatelife @Exerlin

Never claimed stealth was meta, and yeah I don't think this is the best way to address this.

With the lobbies as screwed up as they have been, it's not hard to check out the meta between colour bands: Fixated isn't meant to be for people in red, just like Windows of Opportunity it's designed to foster playstyles in the lower ranks - in this case further away from the current meta.

  • @Warlock_2020

Learn to present yourself without phrases like 'for the love of god', exclamation points, and general ranting, and maybe you'd be worth taking seriously. As is, still seems salty, now seems defensive based on your continued rhetoric based on your side being worthwhile.

  • Pennywise would be fine. Deadlights/IT, not so much, but Pennywise has more limitations.

  • You being salty that you've chosen predictable play over developing new skills in the game isn't actually a reason the dailies are bad.

  • It's encouraging people to heal. More than anything, it's softly addressing the no-heal meta in low ranks, which is where the perk is used.

  • Let's rephrase: I personally wish the level of detail and hype that went into licensing went into original IP, rather than a focus on showmanship over substance.

  • A. no, first you lose one, then two, then more as the system detects you disconnecting more.

    B. it's not really good for the health of the issue, because it means that DC-addicts can curb the detriment to their own rank and ruin more overall games.

  • Dailies are the only 'reason'

Mori offerings are irritating. If they only were usable on third hook, I'd say make ebonies a common offering, but as they are they promote stagnant and bad play.

  • Nah. Clicky-bois are the bane of the Entity.

  • They're focusing on lobbies and killer reworks right now, but I'm sure making pips not entirely dependant on the opposition's actions is somewhere on the list.

  • The Entity is drawn to more than murderous intent, just like it feeds on more than just hope. If you require blood in your headcanon, Adiris was promoting self-mutilation and led her followers into the deep wilderness to either die of starvation/exposure or potentially turn on each other in a wretched, cannibalistic orgy - all because of her devout hubris.

  • BBQ is made with counterplay ingrained - if people fail to capitalize on it, they're failing to learn from their mistakes. No changes needed.

  • Thrilling Tremors replaced BBQ for me the moment it was released. Similar info, fewer counters, and a lil bit of gen protection.

  • This would end up just being a market of people using IRL cash to buy bloodpoints - pay to win, essentially, for the lower ranks at least.

  • @Peanits

How big are the different departments? I've wondered for a while, as someone who's been involved with a couple of indie game projects, how many people make up how many branches of a small but successful group like the DbD team.

  • To be clear, it's not just chains: there's bruising and the like.

Not really worth it, either way.

  • @Victor_hensley

The reason people don't believe you is because math doesn't support your numbers - you're either exaggerating quite a bit or lying.

Killer main here: gen speed is fine, even against SWF, for people actually capable of maintaining some form of pressure.

  • @FancyMrB

The endorsement system would be nifty, rather than replacing the current rankings. This community has proven, time and again, that carrots work better than sticks, buffs and redirects/reworks working better than nerfs, etc.

  • @TheUnendingNightmare

If one is of the opinion that 'everyone is wrong but me', that's when a logical person might recognize the potential for flaws in their own perspective - I suggest trying that route, because you're now garnering a history of being demonstrably wrong.

Oblivious currently only applies to survivors touching Demogorgon's portals - even in the PTB. Undetectable currently only applies to aspects of Dream Demon and the Demogorgon's Of the Abyss. While these may apply to more things in the future, it would be Undetectable which would potentially apply to Ghost Face, Pig, and/or Wraith.

  • This is something to combat the no-heal meta, yeah? Why not just make it direct.

Might I suggest: all injured survivors on a generator that blows are put into the dying state. 60/50/40 second cooldown if one or more survivor is hit.
