I don’t think it’s necessary. They’ve indirectly addressed the grind through Tome challenges and now Grade Rewards. Even bumping this to two million last month.

These two changes have massively alleviated the grind, especially for new players. Each Tome has 2.5 to 3M bloodpoints each. And all the past Tome challenges are available.

Ten Tomes. That’s enough to Prestige four characters without considering the points earned from the matches doing it.

What would raising the cap give us? The ability to max prestige a character instantly. The devs have said they are not interested in this happening and it takes quite a lot of planning to make this happen. See: Otz’s video on maxing Nemesis in one hour.

Tomes need to be completed to give bloodpoints and that takes a considerable time; they’re a grind themselves and the rewards aren’t that high either, so I don’t really see how they address the grind issue. As a new player you’re still going to be stuck with rubbish perks for very long time and that’s just with one character.

  • I can’t play DBD for more than a few games here n there before getting bored and am waiting for a viable alternative to put my time into. I’ll probs check back occasionally though.

  • I honestly think it should be base-kit along with the addon that removes his terror radius + stain for 6 seconds.

  • @xxshyguyxx said:

They just need to rework those awful addons. The overheat isn't a big deal. It's the addons. To situational to be worth it.

I see people say this a lot but even watching tourney players, they overheat all the time and it can definitely hurt them. I just don’t see the point in it when the speed addons were apparently the issue in the first place.

  • They just need to remove overheat and rework/adjust a few addons and he’ll be in a pretty solid spot.

  • No means of communication / conveying information in solo queue. Most balance / design issues can be traced back to this seed.

why are people moaning so hard over this stretched res? every other game has it, and granted they are symmetrical games, but why shouldn't dbd? because of all the complaints, particularly from the killer mains, stretched res has finally gotten patched out, and i'm left wondering why in the world they would complain so hard about something that benefits them, and in some cases, more than the survivors.

    survivors:

can see over very, very specific tiles, and there aren't many.

expose ghostface - very, very unlikely.

    killers:

free shadowborn for all killers with res 1440x1080 or below.

blight can see where survivors are going when recovering after rush.

nurse can see where survivors are going when recovering after blink.

overall: smoother game and better FPS

I used to run stretched res back when i had a crappier rig, and when i switched over to native, its not like i played worse at survivor/killer. These people who complained about stretched res were really just looking for an excuse.

    RIP stretched res.

Because it allows you to see things you aren’t supposed to be able to see, therefore it is cheating, and to a lesser degree because console can’t use it, putting them at a further disadvantage.

  • I can play for a lil bit but I find killer and survivor to be generally boring and tedious a good chunk of the time.

Yes. Especially if it was a child's play crossover. Voodoo vs remnant tech. Crazed serial killer trapped in a doll vs crazed serial killer trapped in an animatronic. Andy vs Gregory.

Lol even Chucky doesn’t fit with FNAF imho

    but each to their own

  • Could you imagine a movie with fnaf + (insert iconic horror character here) ?

  • Trickster because I don’t like him, but also because he’s unplayable with a controller.

I don't think anyone else has said total CO2 emissions, only relative CO2 emissions. Ergo, they're saying "basing an argument about relative CO2 emissions on total CO2 emissions is silly", which it is. Because the only argument that applies there is "why are we worrying about this thing since it's still small", which inevitably runs into "people are trying to make it common so we'd rather nip it in the bud now".

My argument does not concern hypotheticals. I find it ironic that my real-world numbers based argument of total CO2 emissions in a discussion regarding CO2 emissions is being framed as “silly” and “hollow,” yet the nonsensical hypothetical fantasy of “but if every gamer made their own NFTs it would be even worse” is somehow being framed as valid.

    I’m sensing some straw clutching.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2816154#Comment_2816154

I'm really curious where you're pulling your numbers from. 120 hours of MC = 3 vehicles? A PC is ~1 kilowatt at the absolute most and many people don't have computers anywhere near that powerful (nor are they under 100% load even if they are). So, 120kwh for playing locally. Most servers only have a few cores of a CPU dedicated to them, if they're even online all the time, and then you need to split the load between everyone playing on it (and account for low CPU utilisation if everyone's offline etc.)

And yes, you can indeed justify that. There is value gained from it, which is the enjoyment of the people involved. You can denigrate anything by pointing out that it's an unnecessary luxury; that's a total cop-out. If you took games away, then the environment might be better, but the human experience would be worse. Sure, it's subjective but that doesn't mean it's invalid, it's objective to state that people are getting enjoyment from this. Plus the economic effects etc.

NFTs don't add anything. They're literally an inherently inefficient pyramid scheme that offer literally nothing new, nor the ability to make anything new that we couldn't do beforehand. It's taking every form of art in existence and then saying "what if we added a layer that does nothing but consume extra electricity so we can pretend that these things are scarce and sell them one by one, and require further energy for every future transaction that would otherwise not be used".

They're inherently just waste except for the scammers behind them.

Far more goes into the equation than merely the cost to run the game locally on a computer, but that is an important factor too. Computer games don’t just puff out of thin air as I’m sure you’re aware :)

Alright. So you’re willing to overlook the supposed environmental damage so long as the damaging factors provide entertainment. That’s fair enough. I wouldn’t exactly call you a crusader for environmental causes if you’re willing to overlook 600,000,000 kg CO2 emissions from just one video game, all because people get enjoyment out of it, which is why I find it interesting that you seem to be so opposed to NFTs, which while providing less value, also generate significantly less emissions.

Could it be that you just don’t like NFTs? There’s no need to use the environment as a Trojan horse to justify your likes/dislikes. I see many people here doing that and it’s disingenuous.

NFTs provide entertainment to many people too, and whether you like them or not, they do provide value. This is why it’s subjective. When it comes to this topic, you value your values more than the values of others, and that’s human nature for many people and I won’t hold it against you, but your argument is not consistent with an argument of environmental concern, but more so “the ends justify the means.”

  • @Seanzu said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2816136#Comment_2816136

Yes because significantly more people play video games what silly argument is this?

As electric cars become more widely adopted and petrol / gasoline cars fall, electric cars will hit a point where they emit more than petrol cars but it's still better, if the hundreds of millions of people that play video games were selling / buying and minting NFTs they would be substantially higher in usage than video games, what a ridiculous and hollow argument.

So you’re saying that basing an argument about total CO2 emissions on total CO2 emissions is silly?

    That’s an interesting take.

  • @RainehDaze said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2815983#Comment_2815983

Because the aim of other servers and people playing games is to not make the software run in the most complicated, inefficient manner as possible entirely for its own sake. What you're completely ignoring is the environmental impact per person and per instance of the object in question. NFT's, and crypto in general, are utter garbage about this: they take huge amounts of power and energy to do very little, entirely so a small group of people can crow about how this virtual token is totally worth a lot, or this link says they "own" this PNG even if everyone and their mother has copied it to annoy them.

Seeing as crypto mining has actually caused issues with increases in energy prices, intermittently buggers over the entire GPU industry, and in general wastes power, getting up in arms at the environmental impact of NFTs before they reach the same stage is entirely reasonable!

This is, of course, before we get to the other objections, in that NFTs don't actually add anything of value to the world except for a way for a small group of people to sell the same thing multiple times and create artificial scarcity (which, of course, is the most [BAD WORD] ridiculous use of large amounts of energy in existence) even though it's an infinitely dirt-cheap replicable digital file, and the large amount of people who're actually just stealing other people's art to sell this way. The entire concept is mired in bad faith and environmental wastefulness, and nothing comes of it except a few people get links saying they "own" something. Wow.

Well as I said earlier, one game (a mere120 hours playtime) of Minecraft is roughly equivalent to putting 3 vehicles on the road, however we are talking about the supposed environmental impact of the gaming industry vs the NFT industry, therefore the only important data point is the total CO2 emissions, which are significantly higher for the gaming industry.

There are over 2.5 billion gamers globally. In the US alone, it’s estimated that gamers and their luxury products consume 34 terawatt-hours of energy per year, equivalent to around 5 million cars on the road.

    Can you really justify that?

The value/bad faith argument just seems like a cop out to me. I thought the concern was the environmental impact? Video games are a luxury and the value of luxury items/services are subjective. I could see the value argument holding some kind of weight if playing Minecraft was a necessity, but it’s just a video game.

  • They also generate significantly higher emissions, and are a luxury, not a necessity.

If video games are acceptable because they provide a use, then for your viewpoint to be consistent, NFTs should also be acceptable, for they too provide a use and at a lower cost.

How do you weigh the cost to benefit ratio for luxury items/services?

  • That’s your interpretation and you’re welcome to it.

My point is more the hypocrisy. The environmental impact of the NFT industry pales in comparison to the gaming industry, so I find it ironic when gamers get up in arms about NFTs.

  • I think we ought to be more concerned with the video game industry.

Just Minecraft alone is said to generate 600,000,000 kg CO2 emissions. That’s the equivalent of 3 cars on the road per game.

    Time to cancel DBD?

And how is that PC players fault? We get the same visibility on default, but I do agree that there should be some controller options, Idk why they never added them but considering they recently fixed/added PS button layout I guess controller options will never be a thing.

Where did I say PC players were to blame? Lol. That would be an odd thing to say considering they aren’t the developers.

  • Even next gen consoles are at a disadvantage due to nonexistent controller settings, higher input latency and less visibility. It can be compensated for by skill, but we should at least have some basic controller settings and a brightness / lower graphics option.

I can't believe we finally got rid of an issue that was admittedly considered cheating by BHVR a long time ago and a lot of respected names in the community yet people are still here making these types of comments/threads/videos 🤣 If you're salty that you have to play native and can't use stretched res combined with 19 different filters to help you play better than others with equal or worse hardware in a semi-casual party game then just say that

People be rocking a $3,000 setup vs Nintendo Switch/PS4 players talking about "It doesn't provide that much of an advantage, only a little bit. I do it for the FPS bro" as they make content inflating their skill against players with outdated rigs. Conveniently the two maps impacted the most (Macmilan & Autohaven) are the two focal points of competitive play and the former's Coal Tower variation is widely considered by the general public as the most neutral map you can bring. Sounds like you guys are projecting onto the victims of this type of sweaty play because deep down y'all know you're not going to be pulling off the same plays as consistent and will not be special anymore. You guys are setting up your own excuses but then trying to shame people that have had to deal with this for years

    Daaaamn straight.

  • It’s runs decently on series x.

You’ll be at a disadvantage compared to most PC players due to:

    lower frames (still 60fps though)

    higher input latency

controller (exacerbated by no controller settings)

reduced visibility as you’re forced to run the game on max settings which is very dark + washed out.

Having said that, you can definitely still compete and overcome these disadvantages to a high degree with skill/adaptation.

  • I don’t really see this as a QoL change but more so intended mechanics.

If you don’t hit a skill check, the gen will explode.

If let go during a skill check, the gen will explode because you’re not hitting the skill check.

So if you let go to counter DMS and happen to get a skill check at the same time, the gen will explode.

Seems to me that’s how it’s designed to work.

To change this design, we’d first have to redesign skill checks in general. Which is fine by me, but that would have to come first.

  • Deathslinger should be 4.6 imho. The idea behind a slower move-speed is to balance particularly strong powers, yet post nerf, Slinger’s power is not strong enough to warrant such a hindrance

    For comparison:

    (TTK = time to kill)

Huntress is a 4.4 killer with a 32m warning and map wide range who can down two healthy survivors and injure a third, or down 4 injured survivors (all in quick succession) before needing to reload, and who can get downs at every pallet and window. She reloads at lockers. Her shots can be juked or body blocked once per shot. She has one of the fastest TTK in the game.

Deathslinger is a 4.4 killer with a 32m warning and an 18m (I think?) range who can injure one healthy survivor, OR down one injured survivor before needing to reload, and who can get downs at some windows and pallets. He can reload where he is standing, but must do so after every shot. His shots can be juked or body blocked twice per shot, and can be body blocked by the environment. He has an average TTK.

I see no rational reason for the 4.4 speed on Deathslinger.

  • Even back reviving on console feels tricky lol xd

But hitting curves and charging around the map like a lunatic is just too fun.

Well it’s a 12+, a significant portion of the fan base are kids/early teens, and it’s marketed with toys and posters geared towards children.

I’m not saying adults can’t enjoy the franchise or that it was designed exclusively for kids, but it seems to me that it was conceived with kids in mind and is what we call “child friendly.”

That doesn’t seem like a good fit for DBD imho. The thought of fnaf standing alongside Myers, Freddy, Pinhead etc just makes me chuckle.

  • I thought BM stood for Bafflegab Malapropism?

    Hmm. The more you know.

Your best bet is to assertively harness standardized solutions and essentially hope for the best.

Not sure why are people upset about BT. If you don't hit the unhooked person you don't even notice BT. If you hit the unhooked person, they will have to waste 12 seconds mending.

Maybe the mending could be increased slightly but it has various implications for various killers and their add-ons.

Well, being able to tunnel someone off the hook is an important tool in a killer’s kit. When survivors are good, strategic tunnelling and camping are required in many scenarios.

If a survivor wants to counter this strategy, they need to sacrifice a valuable perk slot to use BT (and/or DS.)

  • If BT were to become base kit, killers would certainly require some kind of a buff.

A fully optimized matchmaking system could never be. The skill gap between low level players and high level players is too big and when you need to match 4 equals from one side with an equal from the other, unless you want unreasonable queue times would never be consistant. I am an ash rank survivor. Today I played about 30 matches and was only placed with roughly 3 red rank survivors the entire time. The killers however were red rank in EVERY match. I did about 70% of all gen progression in those matches and died on first or second hook I'd say about a dozen or more times with ZERO escapes.

Games seldom have (or need) a fully optimised matchmaking system, and DBD is no exception. Many people just want improvements to be made over time.

  • I’m with you on most stuff but you missed the mark with matchmaking. It’s not “mathematically impossible” to have a decent system in place, and telling people with legitimate criticisms to “stop crying” and “get over it” isn't going to get them onboard with the highly flawed system we currently have.

  • He’s a pretty strong killer, far from the best but much further from the worst.

Being face camped right off the bat is shite however it’ll be hard to change that without nerfing him in general as there are many “legitimate” reasons for a killer to defend a hook.

  • I love this game and play it a few times a week on average, but I do think it’s a pretty bad game overall, just as I can give BHVR credit where it’s due but I do think they hold it back in many ways.

I’m looking forward to alternatives so I can invest my time and money in a product I have confidence in, and a company that I can get on with, but I’ll always check back and have the occasional muck about every few months.

I see where there is a misunderstanding now. You might be confusing total population of players with total number of games played by individual player.

The population size would be relevant if I was trying to determine if matchmaking works for everybody. In that case we would need 10% of all players to take stats over multiple games each. But again, in this case people would not need to record more than 100 games each. But yes, we would need 10% of 62k people to participate for excellent results or 1000 for good results.

However, this is not what I'm determining from my stats. I'm determining that SBMM doesn't work for me specifically (as opposed to other people), therefore only the number of games that I played is relevant.

Just to make it clear: the conclusion that I'm drawing is that there is a category of people for whom SBMM doesn't work. This doesn't mean that it doesn't work for everybody, which is where total population size would become relevant.

My bad mate, you’re absolutely correct and I got the wrong end of the stick.
