  • It’s no secret that a large portion of the playerbase is unhappy with the game and how it’s managed, but unfortunately that won’t change as the devs think they know better when it comes to seemingly everything, which is of course not the case.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game with this much negative feedback and this many people flat-out not enjoying it. There’s a reason for that and it’s not just people complaining for the sake of it.

They’ve done some great work with licences but BHVR got very lucky with DBD. Right place, right time, no competition etc. One can say with certainty that DBD is not a good game from a design, balance or mechanics standpoint, nor are BHVR some kind of super dev team. No, BHVR have been successful in spite of their complacency, stubbornness and bad decisions, and that’s a testament to how much potential this very neglected game has. Potential it will probably never come close to.

  • That’s good. Hopefully she isn’t deemed a wee bit OP. No killer is ever safe 🤫😬

  • One of the biggest issues plaguing DBD is the power difference between solo and SWF, breaking the game on a fundamental level.

You can’t balance killers around SWF else they’d be too strong for solo, which makes them underpowered vs SWF.

Bridging the gap and allowing killers to be buffed accordingly is imho an essential step for DBD if it wants to be anywhere near its potential.

Comms would need to be optimal and you’d have the ability to mute. A ping system would need to be implemented too.

Most multiplayer games have these features for a reason, and without them DBD is doomed to suffer from its inherent balance issues patch after patch.

VHS is a great example of a game that does it right. Facilitating teamwork within the game is an essential component of keeping it balanced for both sides. Without comms or a ping system nothing would work. But you don’t have to participate if you don’t want to.

Lots of people pretending to care about the environment.

It’s very popular to pretend to care about the environment. Easy serotonin.

  • It’s the Carbon Gnomes at it again, I’d bet. Sneaky buggers.

Carbon Gnomes crave Global Warming, but being inter dimensional entities from another realm, they can’t directly interact with space time. What they can do however, is influence and manipulate space time’s inhabitants, which is where we come in.

Mankind has been under the thumb of the Carbon Gnome since 2012. This NFT controversy is yet another one of their crooked schemes.

You see, if the Carbon Gnomes can rile up enough gamers, the carbon footprint created in the wake of their complaining online would be colossal.

It’s genius really. Manufacture the dirtiest dirty bomb of global warming imaginable. The dreaded NFT. Then, sit back and watch the ensuing chaos as humans clamour online, broadband thrumming with self importance. iPhones, consoles and gaming computers alike, sucking dry the very life force of Mother Earth herself.

  • Reminder: DBD doesn’t even have loadouts.

That is the level of development we are dealing with here.

  • Nah. I’ve not even played for a month or so. Just waiting for VHS access tbh.

  • Well let’s be honest, none of the competition will dethrone DBD.

Is that to say DBD is a great game? Absolutely not. DBD in my honest opinion is a bad game overall, plagued by fundamental design issues, terrible balance philosophy, relentless bugs and broken content, with minuscule updates for years on end.

However, it’s a unique offering with a large, masochistic fan base, many difficult to obtain licenses and it has been around for years which counts for a lot.

So no, games like VHS won’t topple DBD, but they will be vastly superior products for many people, and many people will jump ship or play both.

I’m looking forward to DBD finally getting some decent competition and the complacency of the devs will surely be interrupted at least for a time.

  • VHS will almost certainly be a very successful game, however it’s not going to topple DBD. That isn’t to say that DBD is a better multiplayer game because imho it’s not, however it’s been around for a while, has licenses and a dedicated fan base.

I don't think the devs really care. If they wanted to keep it hush hush this post would have been deleted.

DbD is a passion project. Always has been. That it's the most succesfull in the genre is just an added bonus to the devs. If another game becomes more succesfull they won't just stop working on it.

They really don't care if other simular games release. They most likely endorse it.

I can't imagine how small minded someone has to be to seriously believe the devs are shaking in their boots whenever another asymmetrical horror game comes out.

Believe me they don't care. And hopefully if VHS is a succes the games can co-exist peacefully. Hell maybe we'll even get a collaboration.

But if you hope DbD will die just because another game like it releases you're going to be dissapointed time and time again.

DBD is a passion project 😂😂😂

  • This is one of the issues with DBD - the drastically different perspectives between different skill levels.

Vs average survivors and above, Wraith is a relatively weak killer and can be countered easily. But vs new and below average survivors he is extremely strong. So even though Wraith is a weak killer, he gets labelled as overpowered and is consequently nerfed.

Note this is not some kind of veiled insult to the people who think he is strong. There’s nothing wrong with being a newer player or in a lower skill bracket and Wraith is definitely strong vs those people so from your experience, your opinion is valid. It’s just that vs people who play the game properly, he is far from a threat.

  • Are you complaining about people complaining because you don’t like how they’re complaining?

Not without buffing killer as well. Your suggestion could possibly kill the game. There is already a shortage of killer players. You can't go all in on one side and tell the other side to basically go ######### themselves.

Well of course killers would be buffed accordingly. That goes without saying. They’re already weak even with the pathetic state of solo queue.

  • @Pulsar said:

I think we all know that Engineer's Fang needed some...toning down, shall we say? Like, it was way too good.

But why are we nerfing him. Seriously. This feels like the EXACT same thing that happened with Deathslinger, where BHVR nerfs a "problem" area and then forgets to buff any other part of their kit.

Even engineers fang was fine. Sure, it was strong and that’s a good thing. But overpowered? I don’t see how. Not like it made him stronger than Nurse or Blight. It simply made him competitive at high MMR. It’s sad that being considered a strong killer is seen as overpowered in this game.

  • Solo needs to be buffed as close to SWF level as possible.

VHS already has built in voice comms plus a ping system and it’s not even out yet. DBD has been fundamentally broken because of this issue for years and nothing ever gets done.

  • VHS closed beta is out now. Worth trying to get a key to scratch that 4vs1 itch. It’s a different game but does so much right that DBD does so wrong and it already has features we’ve been waiting 4+ years for.

I heard that if you offer the salt pouch or the salty lips in a game that it generates extra faith for the Salty One. Is this true?

You must pop the salt pouch open and slather its contents all over the salty lips. This generates 1 Hot Mess which can be offered up to the Large Hardon Collider in exchange for 1 Oyster Goop.

If goopy enough, the Salty One may be amused for a time.

Please stop saying "you" and "yourselves".

I have said already on this thread I entered this debate undecided on whether the cosmetic needs to stay or be removed. So please try not to be make assumptions.

All I'm saying is that for the people who want it to stay, have you really considered the "benefit" of it staying, versus the obvious hurt it is causing, and does it really upset you if it is removed (and why). For those who want it removed, please don't assume everyone using it is doing so for racist reasons.

I think you have to have that debate, and not trivialise this. I am seeing a worrying lack of one side trying to understand the others specific issue, and if I may say so (and no offence because you seem to articulate yourself well), your posts seem to be an example of that (e.g. "every race on the planet" comment and such).

If people refuse to even try to understand why this is an issue for people there will be no change from within, as you say you want.

When I say you or yourselves, I’m essentially referring to every relevant person reading, not necessarily you specifically. My apologies.

I have considered that with great depth and my conclusion is still the same. It’s just a cosmetic face. Bubba wears faces. Removing the only black face just because it could offend someone can be seen as racist itself and the prospect has already caused offence to several minorities in this thread. Bubba doesn’t care about ethnicity, he just wants to be pretty.

I do fully understand and appreciate the issue though, whether or not it looks that way, but I’m taking more of a tough love stance than anything else.

I know for a fact that although it may appease a small number of people, removing the cosmetic is not the answer. Those feeling offended will continue to feel offended, and they will look for the next thing to remove or censor, so on, without ever learning to deal with this stuff properly. And that’s a big deal because no matter how much anyone tries, racists will continue to exist and people will always be on the receiving end. To be truly free of this, one must work on themselves. Once they finally start dealing with this nastiness in a healthier way, they’ll realise they have all the power, and were simply giving it away.

That being said I’m perfectly fine with the textures being fixed or each face being updated to more clearly represent each survivor.

You are still talking about the face mask and not the darkened skin beneath or how people use it to harass others?

i am with you on the mask itself, that one makes sense. But the skin beneath needs to be adjusted. And further adjustments to all 4 to make them more distinct to each other and to make them actually resemble the 4 original survs instead of just their skin color would just be better in general and would help against the usage in harassment

Yes I was, because that’s what I was responding to lol.

Sure, I can get onboard with that.

Edit: just be clear, I’ve already addressed the harassment angle in quite some depth and have found that it holds no water, but I am ok with adjusting all the masks so they may better represent each survivor.

For all those people who use the cosmetic. If you are more upset by its removal from as you said "a video game", and you care more about using it than stopping the reinforcement of generations of hurt associated with racial stereotypes and injustice..... I would respectfully suggest that person re evaluate.

And if you think that last part of the paragraph above is "over the top" then that is the exact reason we still need this kind of debate.

There are so many examples in history, of the majority over the minority (imagine telling the native Americans that the slaughter of the population and annexing of their land was fine because "If we didn't it was at the expense of the vast majority". Again, maybe an over the top comparison, but the point is that the majority over the minority argument is kind of sickening.

But don’t you see, you’re the ones making it about that stuff. You’re doing it to yourselves. To everyone else it’s just a face like all the others. That doesn’t change just because some douche comes along and uses it to troll.

The stuff you mentioned is horrible, but every race on the planet has been through that in one form or another.

You all need to stop obsessing over this stuff because you’re just hurting yourselves. I do care and honestly, the only way you’re ever going to cope with this stuff is to change how you deal with it, how you respond to it, how you see it. You can’t keep putting bandaids on everything. The underlying issues will remain and if you don’t change from within, they will never stop affecting you.

it is blackface. Intentionally or not. And no, I actually think they have done in unintentionally and they were just making the face masks without blackface in mind. See the video GoodBoyKaru has posted on the last page I think. They have addressed it. They are human and make mistakes. Doesn’t mean they can’t correct those.

It’s a face. You’re making it about race by calling it a “black face.” Bubba wears people’s skin on his face. He does this regardless of ethnicity. To exclude black people would be incredibly racist. To include them is not racist at all. Bubba wears your face. If your face is black, it’s still just a face. It’s not special. It’s not exempt. He will cut it off and wear it all the same, regardless of what you choose to call it.

    That’s not ‚my definition‘

Bubbas face underneath the mask is not the same color as it is for the other cosmetics. That is literal blackface.

Are you actually trying to argue that white people with dark/black painted faces is not racist, considering the history of blackface and the mocking of people of color in general (not only ‚blackface‘ but also ‚yellowface‘).

and I am against a singled out removal as well. I have said that several times in this thread now. Change all 4 of the survivor masks to be less offensive and more in line with Bubbas actual character (wearing clothes and such from his victims).

this would also result in these cosmetics having more value overall. Let’s be honest, no one ever would see a difference between original head cosmetic and athlete/leader face since there isn’t much difference…

It is your definition. In reality it is just a face. You make it a “black face.” Are you trying to imply that BHVR are secretly racist and are trying to hide “black face” in their game to subtly offend minorities? If no, then it is just a face.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2655415#Comment_2655415

Totally disagree with your comme t that removing it will upset more people than it will satisfy.

Or more accurately this is the problem with this whole debate and issue at large.

If people get genuinely offended or upset, for well known historical and personal reasons... isn't that more valid a reason to listen to, than people who really shouldn't have an issue with the sinple removal of a cosmetic. Simply put, the removal of a cosmetic doesn't really impact you or matter, so if they did, and you kick up a fuss.... ask yourself why

You can disagree but that doesn’t really discount what I’m saying.

The number of people negatively impacted by the cosmetic are minuscule compared to the number of people using it, therefore the number of people negatively impacted by the removal/change would be larger.

No, I don’t believe the small number of people feeling offended are more valid or have more valid reasons.

Why? Well firstly you can’t dictate to someone what should or shouldn’t be important to them. Plenty of people use that cosmetic. Plenty of them would be upset at it being changed or removed, and nobody is in a position to talk down to them or to tell them their experience or concerns don’t matter, or to imply they are racist as you just did. This is a computer game and it has cosmetics. People like to use them. It is not racist to like a cosmetic. No matter how much you try to race bait, you won’t change this simple reality.

Secondly, just because a minority is offended by something, it doesn’t mean they’re more important than anyone else, regardless of their past experiences.

Sure, it sucks if you’ve had to deal with racism IRL and then you log into a video game and have to deal with it again, I do sympathise with that, however we are talking about a niche situation involving a specific cosmetic that has affected and does affect a genuinely minuscule number of people, and the proposed solution is at the expense of everyone else, not to mention that changing/removing the cosmetic in the first place doesn’t even stop the racists from being racist and therefore offending the people being offended.

Thirdly, forget about offending everyone else because they supposedly don’t matter, but what about offending other minorities? In this thread alone there are many minorities offended by the very suggestion. They feel as though they are being babied, coddled, gaslighted, etc. They feel as though they shouldn’t be treated differently for their ethnicity, and that they’re capable of dealing with trolls in an online video game because they see themselves as grown adults with self respect.

Why do these minorities not matter? Are you being racist for discounting their feelings?

So when it comes down to it, we have a minuscule number of people, offended by a cosmetic in a computer game, removing/changing features at the expense of the vast majority, including many other minorities.

And for what? So that once in a blue moon, in an almost non-existent situation, some random person won’t feel bad over a cosmetic, but will still feel bad when they read racist messages from the person who would have worn the cosmetic.

    I just don’t see it.

  • @Mooks said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2655390#Comment_2655390

How is it fun for 99.9% of everyone else to have a literal blackface in the game?

and who asked to outright remove the cosmetic anyway? People are asking for it to get changed to be less offensive.

That’s your definition. To everyone else it’s just a cosmetic of a character’s face, like all the other ones, because that’s literally all it is. You’re making it into something racist which could be construed as racism in of itself.

See how that works? What do we do about the minorities being offended by you being offended?

Now, obviously I’m not saying you’re being explicitly racist, but singling out minorities and treating them like children, or implying they can’t handle adult themes, or gaslighting them into thinking everyone is racist, can definitely be perceived as racism, and that’s what this is all about when it comes down to it. Perceptions. Perspectives. How do we weight them all? We can’t. You just can’t please everyone.

The fact of the matter is, removing or changing the cosmetic to appease such a small group of people in such a niche situation, is going to negatively impact far more people in the process.

And I do see many people asking for it to be removed whenever this topic is brought up, but asking for it to be changed to “be less offensive” is pretty much the same thing at the end of the day.

What else are we going to change to be less offensive? We should remove camping because a racist person could camp someone. Same for tunnelling. But what about hooking in general? We can’t have racists hooking people. Especially minorities. That would be offensive. Same for slugging. As for chasing, well that’s some pretty dodgy territory, having a known murderer chasing around minorities? Beyond the pale. At this stage we may as well delete the whole game, but then we’d be deleting Claudette, which could be racist too.

In a bit of a pickle here.

  • There just aren’t any convincing or rational arguments for why the cosmetic should be removed imho.

A minuscule number of people very rarely being offended to whatever degree or feeling uncomfortable isn’t a good enough reason.

People get offended all the time over all manner of things.

Removing the cosmetic will offend more people than the cosmetic offends in the first place.

What makes you more important than these people? The colour of your skin or?

Removing the cosmetic does nothing to stop racists from being racist.

You’re just ruining fun for 99.9% of everyone else for no reason whatsoever.

This whole thing is just nonsensical.

  • I don’t see how this is an issue tbh.

Bad people exist and will continue to do so, and no matter how offended you are, or how much you censor or attempt to re-educate, it’s not going to change.

Now, I get the whole “don’t give them the tools they need to be bad” angle, but it doesn’t hold any water imho.

For the sake of argument I’m going to pull some numbers from the crack of dawn, but they’re still in the ballpark.

Out of let’s say tens of thousands, there may be a handful of people who use this cosmetic with racist intentions.

Of those handful, a smaller number make it known to the intended victim what they are actually doing.

So we have a fraction of a handful of people, offending a fraction of a handful of people, in a computer game.

Are we really going to ruin the fun of potentially millions of people over that?

You can’t just go around censoring everything that makes you feel bad. That’s no good for you nor society.

Let’s say the cosmetic is removed. Potentially millions of people are screwed out of it, and the minuscule number of racists will continue to be themselves, finding more ways of being racist in DBD, be it in end-game chat, private messages, tunnelling + camping, etc.

What happens then to the people being offended? They continue to be offended.

No. Removing the cosmetic is not the answer. So, what is?

Change how you respond to it. That’s the only thing that will ever actually help you.

  • Never. It is intentional.

DBD is not truly a game and is in fact mind control software created by The Order of the Atlantan Oysters, a black budget secret society founded in the 14th century upon rediscovery of Atlantis and its subterranean kingdoms.

BHVR themselves are all of the order, descendants of the spawn birthed from ancient sex rituals within the bowels of Atlantis itself.

Their goal is to pit survivor and killer gamers against one another, consuming their data and offering it to a wretched monolith they name “The Salty One.”

Why? Well, it’s complicated. As they say in Atlantis:

    “Wuh mish-vel e'shua avon-telik na' ish-veh faik”

    or crudely translated

    ”{The} {machine} ðyrs {hungers} hwæðre êower {data}”

The emperor of Atlantis craves Oysters, but it has consumed them all. What we know to be Oysters in our world are in fact flawed genetic replications created by the CIA to prevent total destruction of space time.

This worked…for a time, but the emperor is not so easily fooled.

Long story short, a deal was made. The many secret societies of the world now work in tandem to collect the data of every human. This data is offered to The Salty One, and if accepted, is fed into the Large Hardon Collider, which is actually an A.I. codenamed The Mind-Brain. From there, our data is transformed into pure, genetically perfect Oysters for the Emperor itself.

In exchange, we may all live. What happens once our data is fully assimilated? I do not know. But what I do know is, we must continue to play DBD, no matter how torturous the “devs” make it, no matter how insidious, for the sake of the universe itself, we must soldier on.

That’s what I tell myself anyways.

And why should the survivor be penalized when the only thing he/she can do in the game is either stay on hook doing nothing and not even earning points + getting a MMR loss or DC ?

Either way he/she is punished, with the latter he/she is not loosing time.

If you allow the killer to be toxic and use a broken anti-gameplay mechanic then allow the survivor to be able to dodge this withotu any penalty.

And as i have said before, you guys crying because survivors are DCíng is your fault, you clearly camp/proxy camp and tunnel first hook. I never have any DC, even with Nurse. But i knew you were all mostly killer mains camping and tunneling, if you were fair players, you wouldn't defend camping/tunneling. No way.

The fact of the matter is, tunnelling and camping are a part of the game. If someone doesn’t like it they can either DC and rightfully eat a penalty, or stop playing the game entirely. There are plenty other games out there.

Now, I rarely camp or tunnel when I play killer, but sometimes the situation calls for it and even at the highest standard of play these strategies are valid and can be required.

Is being camped etc fun? Of course not. You either suck it up and wait a few minutes, buying your team some time, or you DC. If you choose the latter, you should absolutely be penalised as not only are you ruining the match for everyone else involved, but if there were no penalties, the entire game would be broken and essentially unplayable, as everyone would DC all the time. It happens whenever they disable the penalties.

For camping and tunnelling to be removed or de-incentivised, the entire game would need significant rebalancing as killers are notably weaker than survivors.

You guys have no moral at all, it is crazy this new generation, i'm wondering what your education is.

When a boss push you to the limit to the point you burn out it is your own fault ?

A killer that has 30%+ trials where opponents DC is an abuser and deserve a permaban exactly as when a boss has 30% of his/he employees in a burn out, he deserves a law punishment. The problem doesn't come from the burned out ppl, the cause is the boss.

It is exactly the same here. But well, without being mean, seeing the new generation living their life through dumb videos on TikTok, TV reality and Instagram, no wonder why the Transvaluation of values exist and we can blatantly see it here.

The bully is the victim and the real victim is the idiot that deserve to be punished.

Great way of seeing "life". Don't expect positivity in your life thinking like this, you will be frustrated all the time 😂

If someone camps or tunnels, they aren’t doing anything wrong. They aren’t abusers and there are no victims.

DBD is a game. It has various mechanics, some of which allow for what we know as camping or tunnelling. If people choose to DC because of this, it’s on them and not the killer.

Why would the killer be punished for playing the game in an intended and sanctioned way?

  • It’s not the killer’s problem nor responsibility so why should they be punished? It’s nonsensical.

  • Trapper: a very weak killer but I play on Xbox X and traps are almost impossible to see. It’s frustrating seeing all these PC players with brightness turned up or filters yet I’m here looking at a dark patch with a darker patch inside it wondering if a trap is there.

Wraith: another weak killer and one of my favourites to play but I hate facing stealth killers and his stealth is the best imho.

Trickster: just poorly designed killer. Unless you’re at a decent, high-walled loop, you’re screwed and there’s very little that can be done about it.

  • Are survivors still pretending that camping and tunnelling aren’t an essential part of the game?

  • in the end game chat

    a survivor did complained

    dirty trickster main

  • I don’t use dead hard much, I’m usually running stuff like built to last, fast track, detectives hunch, streetwise, etc.

  • Boon: Dead Harder

Survivors within the boon’s influence are granted the Spectral Dead Hard ability.

Spectral Dead Hard ignores the exhaustion status.

  • Just laugh at it. I’ve been in the same situation. Letting a survivor live but they still clicky clicky and teabag. Sometimes if they don’t get the message I’ll just kill them lol.

  • DH for sure. Sometimes the press of a button can outright lose you the game.

  • A fun build I’ve been running on survivor is Fast Track, Detectives Hunch, Streetwise and Built to Last with a commodious toolbox + brand new parts + charge add-on.

    Gens don’t stand a chance.

Unless you’re a new player, when you complain about NOED you’re merely exclaiming that you choose not to counter it, and want the devs to compensate for that choice.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure that if each survivor does just one totem as they move between gens, NOED is essentially a wasted perk slot.

You even have perks specifically designed to help you do totems. You just click on the totem and wait a few seconds and it’s gone for good.

Survivor entitlement when it comes to NOED is comical.

  • If it weren’t for the lawsuit F13 would have been huge. The level of content it had during its small run was ahead of the pack and the roadmap was promising. By now? Would of had loads of content. DBD may not have been as successful, or it may well have been forced to adapt to the competition and could have been in a much better place.

They did buff him in other aspects, he recovers much faster from his chain breaking and his movement speed while ADS was increased, which basically allows him to keep shooting around corners like before, you just need to pre aim.

And do you know how little people play at that "high level"? Do we really want to balance for such a small percentage of the playerbase for what many people consider a casual game?

Better to make things more fun for the majority of the playerbase, unless they decide to officially make this game more competitive.

Those changes don’t come close to compensating for the nerfs so they’re sort of besides the point.

While it’s true that you shouldn’t balance exclusively around high level play (which is more significant than most realise,) the numbers do highlight glaring issues with design and balance that need to be addressed. With the current state of killers, we can’t afford to go around nerfing bad ones just because they’re not fun to 1vs1, especially in a 1vs4 game.

Deathslinger was weak. Now he’s even weaker. In a game where the majority of killers are already subpar across the board. And for what? To haphazardly fix a potential niche issue whilst creating another one in its place.

If they had compensated for the nerfs, well, different story.

    It was deserved

Just because something is weak, doesn't justify it being unhealthy design

It’s debatable whether or not quick scoping was even “unhealthy.” I’ve seen plenty examples of high level survivors juking and running high level, pre-nerf Deathslingers.

But let’s just say it was unhealthy. If you’re going to nerf a weak killer to fix this issue, you need to buff them elsewhere, otherwise you’re doing more harm than good.

They didn’t buff him elsewhere. Instead they hit him with an additional nerf. That’s not deserved.

DBD has 25 killers. Guess how many of them can reliably compete at the highest level? 3 of them can. That’s 12%.

88% of the killers in this game are either flat out weak or underpowered at high levels of play. None of those killers deserve nerfs, regardless of any debatable issues of “unhealthy design.”

i mean im fine with them removing the hatch i dont care but it pisses me off that i cant use something that exists due to my teammates not using their full brain capacity and thinking if its realistic for me to unhook when im injured cross map mid chase last survivor

They probably just want the extra bloodpoints. I usually stay on hook for a few extra bloodpoints unless the other survivor asks nicely with emotes.

So sick of reading "BLUH BLUH BLUH KILLER MAINS" and "BBBUT SURVIVORS!!!"

It's absurd. Painting any particular group with a wide brush is always going to be wrong. People are just people, regardless of what role they play in this video. Everyone should play both roles to get a fuller perspective on the game. Just stop the antipathy. Everybody is just trying to enjoy themselves no matter what they play as. Trying to stick people in categories as such is juvenile and foolish.

    Unfortunately it’s human nature.
