No. The game is just bad as of now, and people just don’t want to admit this. Anyone with game knowledge knows this. The only reason LFD is superior in every way is because the objective was simple (Reach the Red Exit Gate) yet there were many uncontrollable variables ON BOTH SIDES. Also it was 4 v 4. Whereas this game is 1 v 4. The fact is 3 gens pop in 2 minutes. It’s because it hasn’t changed in 5 years some survivors memorized where everything is. There’s nothing “random” anymore. It’s THAT bad. The only way to fix this is the make it change based on what’s happening IN THE TRIAL. If the game is unfortunate enough to give killers terrible maps, awful gen positions, and terrible totem spawns what can any killer actually do? Nothing. If people disconnect what can survivors do? Nothing! Unless the game itself changes the game’s dynamic changes this game will perish. Simple. When survivors run Prove Thyself with comms and Spine Chill so gens get finished in no time flat. Literally, the game as is? Just blech.
Im not saying it cant be better. I am saying
1) its not going to die because of the mechanics. If that were true it already woukd have.
2) your idea woukd turn the game into a slugfest which i think is the opposite of what most of us want. Most of us want to be able to shoot for 12 hook games, which as you said there isnt time for now.

Slugging is already mitigated by WGFL. Survivors rise up in 5 seconds. Try again.
Erhm, no 😂 this morning i ran a few games where i exclusively slugged and won 2 out of 3 games (it git boring quick).
The slug has to recover themselves then someone has to get off a gen to pick them up, so thats 2 people off gens and im already in the middle of downing someone else. This might be why youre having trouble, you may need to slug more.
With what youre suggesting the gens take 120 seconds if all 4 survivors are alive, meaning its more efficient to keep slugging till everyone is down then get yiur hooks. Unbreakable and wglf would quickly be used on every build, probably soul guard too, tenacity as well to help mitigate the tactic but ultimately this would be the game. Killers woukd run sloppy and coulorophobia to counter wglf and recovers after that initial unbreakable. There would be no reason to kill anyone till you can kill everyone. And if a slug dies, he dies 🤷♂️

What’s unbearable is being forced to run Corrupt, Ruin/Undying because survivors gen rush. What’s unbearable is seeing team mates dc, and then depiping because of it. Seeing killers tunnel/camp because that’s all they feel they can do. The way the game is now is just awful, and it’s getting WORSE. Unless the dynamic of this game changes it’s doomed. That’s the direction it’s headed. I don’t even play this ritually and I see it a mile a way. C’mon.
This has been how the game works for 5 years. Im not saying it cant be better, it certainly can, but its not doomed because of the mechanics.
Its doomed if they dont address all the lag and bugs that have gotten out of control but thats a different thread
-
@Bran said:
that would make the game unbearable. at that point, the killer is going to punish themselves for doing there objective. which leads to slugging anyways...so....yeah
Pretty much this. Slugging would be meta hard.

Not entirely sure how well it would work, but there's a movie called The Furies that I watched earlier today. Basically, 8 women and 8 men are captured and forced to compete in a killing game. The men are forced into this game as killers, the women we'll simply refer to as survivors.
Each killer is assigned their own survivor that they need to keep alive in order to win the game; if their assigned survivor is killed, their head explodes (movie didn't show exactly how this happens, just that it does happen). The idea is that the killers have to hunt down survivors while protecting their assigned survivor if they find them; once they kill a different survivor, they eliminate whichever killer was assigned to that survivor.
Seems kind of complicated, but it's a fun idea in my opinion. I don't really think it'd work in dbd but I'd definitely be down to give it a try
I really dug that movie. How do you think the game would handle killers fighting eachother? They couldnt protect their survivor if they didnt

I had an idea of a 4v4 (1 killer and 3 survivors on a team) mode that is similar to domination on COD.
So here is how it would work. There are seven generators, 3 red team gens, 3 blue team gens, and 1 neutral gen. The red and blue teams would have to try and repair the other team’s generators. Once a generator is repaired by a certain team, it becomes that teams color. The team that has more generators that are their color would begin to gain points. Additionally, survivors could “sabotage” the opposing team’s generators. Essentially, the generator would regress as the survivors are on it.
During this time, each team’s killer would be able to kick opposing gens and also down and hook the opposing team. I’m not sure if survivors would actually die in this mode, but if they did then whatever team’s survivors die first, that team loses. In the end, whatever team reaches the score limit first wins.
I don’t think there would be any perks in this mode, or maybe only select ones due to balancing.
Sorry if this was confusing to understand, but I think this could be somewhat competitive because it is not asymmetrical.
This could be cool

I had a thought for a kind of endurance or endless hunt type thing. As a killer you are put into a map with survivors and play normally but whether they die or escape more survivors will be dropped in. Then, as a survivor, if you escape, you move to a new map with someone as a different killer. It’s totally flawed and probably wouldn’t work but what do I know, I’m typing this on the toilet.
That would be cool. Youd have to change the ways survivors escape. Maybe if you complete a gen a chest appears on the map that only you can open, then you have to find hatch. Both the hatch and chests move every minute or 2. Pallets respawn after 2 minutes but could be in a different spot.
The killer gets to pick the map (since he wont be leaving it) and when hes done playing he presses a switch, no more survivors are added, egc starts, survivors have 5 minutes to escape.
Could be fun. As survivor when you escape it just moves you to an existing game

Yeah thats a good recipe for getting slugged to death. No thanx

Hardcore Mode:
Its meant to be a harder version of the trials. I dont think it would completely split the base because not everyone is going to be about this life.
Killer Side: Can only bring adept and general perks. No add ons above green. Standing within 8 meters of a hook for more than 4 seconds reveals your aura to all survivors, supercedes any stealth mechanic.
Survivor Side: Can only bring adept and general perks. Only items found in chests can be used (keys never spawn but higher rarity items are more common like purple med kit, commodius tool box etc).
Generators: Can never be done faster than 70 seconds but now work on a tiered completion basis every 25%. As an example, killer has Ruin, you get a generator to 30%, killer runs you off, the generator will not regress past 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% (this is hard capped for all regression perks including pop).
All genrators regress when not being worked on at the same rate they can be repaired, but still will not go below the tiers.
All maps spawn with 10 pallets total, no more no less.
Bloodpoint caps for all categories are increased from 8k to 12k.

The only opposing opinion I would offer here is that there are in fact times where some Killers(myself included...full disclosure) will face camp someone for a reason. That reason is usually to punish a Survivor who was exploiting, or otherwise being a tool. I'm not sayin anything, I'm just sayin.
Sometimes its useful as bait in a swf too, ill even smack the guy a few times to piss them off so their buddies come

Is anyone else really concerned about this?
I usually am more of the side of not nerfing killer related things. Noed always has been one of the things i think should be reworked. I disagree with the "just do bones" argument as it simply consumes too much time on higher level play. It might be a different story with counterforce in the game, we will see. I still am really worried about this though. It seems really really powerful.
If you think thats bad wait till they actually have freddys black box working 😂
And yes, just do bones. At high level in particular a secondary objective is needed. If you refuse to do bones, not much room to complain about noed

You can literally only use ds if you're getting tunneled in the first place.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2332369#Comment_2332369
I don't throw the word tunnel around if it's not tunneling. I mean literally coming back to me getting unhooked, ignoring the unhooker and tunneling me. I'll run them until ds is about to expire, purposely look like I made a mistake at a vault or something to let them get me down, ds the ######### out of them, then run em again. It's so bad I started saving dead hard for after the ds hit to make sure I don't run out the ds timer. By the time they get me again, last gens are popping and it's time to face camp me. And I do nothing to ask for this, I don't taunt, bm, etc., and I was bringing in med kits for God's sake so I don't even have a flashlight. West coast north America server.
If you can run them like that then youre winning, why get mad about it 🤷♂️

What exactly is a 1v4 killer? If you're coming from the Scott Jund school of fun then it will probably be killers who are all ever so slight variants of 'move fast in a straight line with limited curve/flick potential and low cooldown'. As to your example, Freddy was one of THE premiere 'unfun' killers to play against and nothing has changed about his 'unfun' e.g. Freddy puts down a snare at a loop and goes the opposite way you either eat the snare and get slowed or leave the loop. Since his nerf he still plays the exact same way he is just ever so slightly worse when he places his snare down.
As to your killer idea how would that even work? Corrupt intervention on a cooldown? That sounds like a terribly boring killer who is just an M1 115% killer who can be looped for days and is slightly annoying in that he can block a gen for a few moments before your team crushes him into the ground.
Freddy can be looped normally when youre awake. I hate that survivors use "unfun" to mean "hard." If you cant loop a killer for twenty mins its a problem and thats ridiculous

Like what the hell is wrong with the people that play this game? There's an event so killers are playing extra special douchy? Why? What kind of preteen anger has these guys motivated? Game after game im tunneled, 3 out of 4 games as night, I was tunneled through ds, and on my second hook struggling as the last gen got finished, and then I get face camped. I didn't do a damned thing except get seen first. The other game, the killer did the same thing to someone else. So I Pop on today, get a franklins noed Meyers that got his ass beat until noed, where I was of course hooked as the last gen got done, and he snowballed and downed everyone. ######### is wrong with these guys??? Anyone have a rationale as to what the motivation to be extreme douche is?
If youd seen the survivors ive seen, youd understand why playing like a douche from the start is basically mandatory. Its only after you have control do you let up and be nice after.
Also, define tunneling. Last game i hook a nea, while shes hooked i go hook a dwight, shes unhooked in that process, i come back and shes working a gen so i down hook her. Get dwight again, come back and nea is healed just standing under the hook so i down her and she dcs. My dms are off but im positive she called me a tunneling douche wheb i didnt tunnel her, i juggeled her and dwight 🤷♂️

Then why are we more likely to depip if we get 2 kills or not pip at all?
Thats the serious flaw here. They cant base the rank up system around kills because everyone woukd hard camp the first person, then get a second right before/after gens completed with noed and then hope to get a third. The best killer would be bubba with lethal pursuer, ci, noed. They dont want to encourage that because everyone would hate it.
BUT for balance theyre hard focused on 2k 2e for some reason. Its why theres no hard win condition.
Really balance should be 8 hooks., NOT hook stages btw. 8 hooks

So you waste more time going to the hook to realize that the killer is face camping someone. Again, this is just proving my point. Don't have enough time to do totems and gens if someone is being camped.
You shouldnt do totems. Do the gens, leave. Best a killer can do is a 2k and only 2 hooks. Depip.

because there is an entire mental game behind poker that even outclasses the RNG aspect.
DbD doesnt have any of that. if DbD decides you go to Fractured Cowshed and spawns some really strong tiles really close together, your skill hardly matters.
Dbd has no mental aspect at all? You think the survivor clicking their flashlight in your ear because they know theyre the best runner on the team isnt mental? Or the killer that slaps the survivor on hook and face camps so the swf will come to tge rescue, nothing mental their? How about faking vaukts snd moin walking, nothing mental their eitger. Or tbagging to get the killer tilted so he makes mistakes. Yup. Nothing mental in this game at all 😂
There are so many variables that go into the make up of a match that bad rng doesnt immediately mean you lose. Heres an obvious example. Pit me against a swf of legit r20s on cowshed and give them the best setup possible im going to win everytime. They can have 25 pallets, wont matter. It can mean that, but its not a given immediately. I beat a swf on cowshed yesterday with legion, i also got my ass handed to me by a swf on cowshed with legion. Im not saying rng doesnt matter, it does, but its not everything

Issue is where will the skill ceiling for killer or survivor end?
For reference Nurse has a very high skill ceiling, however that just results in almost guaranteed 4k’s every match in the hands of an experienced player, is that balanced?
If shes facing off against people that dont have an equal amount of experience in playing against good nurses, yes. If shes playing against the best survivors and shes the best nurse and still 4ks every game, no.
-
@Mister_xD said:
you cant balance a game around "high level competetive gameplay" when the entire game is heavily build on RNG being a deciding factor in your matches.
they'd literally have to rework the entire game from scratch if they wanted to do that.
demanding something like this is not only extremely unrealistic (and therefore is basically guaranteed to disappoint you), but also shows a clear lack of understanding of this game.
Poker is also heavily rng, and yet there are people that consistently win. The difference is poker is actually balanced so everyone has a fair chance

If im going to give someone hatch i let them struggle free. 2 sets of eyes are better than 1 and you mive slower with them on shoulder

I don't think PTB can come to consoles. The point of the PTB is to make fast changes, but on consoles, every change has to be approved and pushed by the parent company (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo).
I also believe those changes cost the game developer's money to do. Which is why changes come to most console games in large pushes; it's much cheaper.
Also, saying 'I don't have this, so no one should get it' is kind of silly.

Platforms like xbox and sony don't offer the level of control necessary to beta test something. With steam they have full control over the servers and can examine everything and how it works at a functional level. It also gives them a heads up on bugs that otherwise they wouldn't have. As bad as it seems leaving out consoles for the public test build is perfectly fine. You get a heads up on content coming into the game and better yet, any bugs identified are in the pipeline to be fixed for when your platform receives their update. If you want to participate in the ptb maybe just get dbd on pc. You aren't missing out on much but benefitting greatly from the bugs pc players identify before it goes live.
This is just false. Battlefield 4 had a ptb on xbox

This could work in a game with a functional ranking system but DbD doesn’t have a functional ranking system.
When I’m in a swf we have two red ranks, a purple, and a kid on PS4 who is usually between 9-12 and we get almost nothing but green or worse killers.
I am a rank 1 killer and I can get anything from 1’s to 17’s in my lobbies.
Yeah but PRESUMABLY if were balancing around high levels of play were also fixing tge ranking system 🤷♂️
-
@Andokuky said:
You can’t balance a game like this around high level play because the fact of the matter is most players are not any good. And since there are way more survivors than killers, that means most survivors are actually pretty mediocre at the game.
Now imagine that they never stand a chance in a game because killers have to be balanced around the high level survivors, which means they’re incredibly easy to stomp lower tier players with.
But the killers they are facing are lower tier too. Thats WHY its called balance. I dont need more time to stomp new survivors. It wouldnt matter if gens took 1 minute or 5 mins you put me in a lobby with noobs theyll always lose. You put a brand new killer in with brand new survivors he has a bit of an edge but not a huge one

Hey, I found a small workaround that might help some of you with the performance issues:
If you have DbD saved to your console's internal hard drive (which is likely to be an HDD with current-gen consoles) and also have an external SSD hard drive on hand, move DbD onto the SSD. I swapped it over on to my new one yesterday evening (a Samsung T7) and noticed a drastic improvement in performance over all the jank I was dealing with that afternoon.
Did it based on a hunch which someone shared in a different post about how they think DbD isn't functioning right with HDD storage (something about choking the flow of information or whatever, I don't remember all of it) but doesn't have these issues on SSD. Next Gen consoles use SSD storage instead of HDD, so this might be an additional factor helping their experience.
Don't get me wrong, the game still doesn't run all that great, but it does run a heck of a lot more like it did prior to update 5.0.0 (the RE Chapter). At the very least, it has significantly cut down on the stuttering I was experiencing.
It's not a perfect solution, these hard drives can be a bit pricey if you don't already own one so it'd still be money to shell out for a better DbD experience that shouldn't have been this bad to begin with, but they are a lot cheaper than the next-gen consoles if you aren't ready to make that jump yet. Plus hey, more storage for other games you could play when DbD is being terrible (like Civ 5, obviously).
@MandyTalk seems to confirm what we were discussing the other day. I have to go to the store later anyway, im going to try it too

Then hate to say that Dev is ######### and when I mean by Proxy camping is being close not going to any gen and just staying close enough so they can see you but you cant see him and that play style is garbage no wonder the game has gone to ######### if the devs play this way themselves
Yeah but if you hook someone in the middle of your 3 gen you can patrol the gens AND camp the hook. Proxy camping = proximity camp. Youre staying near the hook but youre not in the persons face.
Understand, it takes 400 seconds for a gens to be done by 1 person, we can say 460 for time moving between gens, thats 7.7 minutes. We'll say 8 to round up and be generous. 1 survivor working gens solo can have all 5 gens done in 8 minutes.
Now lets look at 2 survivors working gens: if theyre both working the same gens thats 236 seconds to do 5. Thats basically 4 minutes. Add a minute running between gens thats 5 minutes. If they split and work seperate gens but come together at the last gen thats 3.4 mins, add 1 so 4 and a half minutes.
I can keep going but it only gets more ridiculous.
From the killers side: assuming everything is perfect theres 24 health states he has to go through. If we say average 15 seconds per health state thats 360 seconds.
Lets also assume it takes 10 seconds to find someone in between chases, thats another 80 secs
Theres an average of 10 pallets per map thats another 30 secs.
360+80+30= 470/60=7.8 minutes
What this basically means that for a killer to "play nice" and never camp tunnel or slug they need to keep 3 survivors off gens AT ALL TIMES. This literally is not possible since they cant be in 3 places at once. This is the game at its base level, perks and strategies adjust this. Gens can take longer, but chases can also take longer. This is why killers dont play nice, they dont have time. If a killer hooks you and camps you and all 3 other survivors get off gens to get the rescue hes shaving down the time to get health states considerably. If he slugs you and immediately starts chasing someone else, thats another person that has to come off a gen to get the slug. If he can force a 3 gen it wont take as ling to walk between them and get hits/downs.
Believe me, i understand being camped/tunneled is frustrating. But its literally how its designed to be. You cant play any other way.
And understand to im being stupid generous here, its actually worse because it can take way longer than 30 seconds to down someone

Idk why they dont just make the yellow one basekit 🤷♂️
