Are you supporting people having their lives ruined over a Tweet?

Because if you are, then I don't think we'll find any fertile grounds for discussions, as we are diametrically opposed.

If you aren't...well, you're arguing my side of it then. People shouldn't be offense-farming on old Tweets, or using them to attack people now - even if they said something really dumb or 'offensive'. Because people change.

While it makes me feel gross, I have to extend the same charity to people who have served their sentence for a crime, have not reoffended and are trying to reenter society. And that, unfortunately, has to include this guy. Because they have to be given the chance to change.

There is no circumstance possible where I will support someone getting cancelled for a out of context tweet

however, a out of context tweet does not compare to abusing a child and having lord knows how much child (I am not saying what it is but it rhymes with photography)

Victor ruined a child’s life, and indirectly supported ruining the lives of many more, under no circumstances does that warrant forgiveness after his sentence was served, and if what people say about his behaviour on the JC2 set is true, then he hasn’t changed in the slightest

i’m all for separating the art from the artist when the artist happens to have opinions that most people find uncomfortable, molesting a child and watching videos of other children going through the same thing is not something you can just ignore

your willingness to forgive people is admirable, really it is, but if we are willing to forgive the ######### Victor did then were do we draw the line?

  • There is, but as expected, it doesn’t work, it;d supposed to give you a free swing if the grab is cancelled by the server, however the swing pretty much never hits survivors and you can still get locked into the grab animation depending on the survivor’s ping and your ping

    it;s really stupid

    Yes.

He did something truly awful. Utterly despicable.

For doing this, he was given a prison sentence and served probation. He is still not permitted access to children, unsupervised - which is fine.

Now, this is in no way apologist for what he did, but once someone's sentence is concluded, we - as a society - should not endeavor to punish them further. We shouldn't ostracize or prevent someone from earning a living, because the entire goal of the corrections system is to turn bad guys into proper citizens and this makes it impossible.

If we really don't think that rehabilitation and change is possible as a society, we should probably be handling crime and punishment very differently (and that would be a very dark world).

If we do, then we need to act like we do and, common-sense precautions aside, we attempt to help people make that change. Here, in particular, when the offense was over a generation ago, he expressed remorse and never reoffended.

if he is genuinely remorseful (which I find hard to believe) then good, as he should be

but saying “we shouldn’t ostracise people after their sentence is over”, in the modern era especially, for something as sickening as he did is honestly laughable, people get their lives ruined for tweets they made while drunk from 10 years ago, do you honestly believe that we as a collective society are going to let a known child abuser of the hook until he draws his final breath? I know for a fact I’m not

"Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.”

Victor Salva was a Paedophile, let me repeat, a PAEDOPHILE

elaboating further is unnecessary, detailing his crimes would probably get me banned, end of discussion

  • Getting exhausted on the ground is still going to happen, DH validation will not work, grab validation didn’t work and still doesn’t work, and hit validation also doesn’t work, why would DH validation be any different

  • Real Life figures have been ruled out a long time ago as potential characters or cosmetics, so no, never going to happen

  • Lord Almighty I hope it isn’t, not even counting the issues actually stable and competitive games had and continue to have with MMR, DBD is simply not balanced enough nor stable enough for a system like MMR

  • Until Victor Salva dies the slow, painful and lonely death he deserves, it will never happen

Killer is not the power role? killer is always the power role. It depends how good you are and the killer you are playing with (some are weaker than others)

Try playing against a actually competent team, you will realise survivors are the power role very quickly

  • I’ve been on hiatus since a few days after MMR released, and unless NFTs and a patch that makes the game unplayable in several ways count as important stuff that I should come back for, I have no intentions of coming back until MMR is either fixed or removed

  • I’m still on hiatus due to MMR and house renovations, but from what I gathered and heard this patch can be summed up with a picture of a dumpster that is currently on fire and being attacked by hooligans with a bunch of hammers

  • @Critical_Fish said:

The power is.. weird. I think the different modes triggered by different events is cool, but I have a few issues with the modes.

    1. The vision impairment isn't necessary and would seem to just annoy the player more than anything.
    2. Why not just make Patrol Mode Undetectable?
    3. Pursuit mode shouldn't be slower than the other two modes.

In addition to this, I'm just not a fan of the powers gained throughout the trial. The way to switch through them would likely be majorly hard to implement on console, and console players have enough struggles already.

I also just feel like the Killer would be relatively weak overall. Having a fast, mobile and hard to track Killer would be super interesting but I think it could be a lot better than this. Perhaps, making the mode system something you switch between with CTRL rather than something triggered by certain events? Say,

    • Patrol Mode is Undetectable, but moves at 110% speed. Any Survivor making noise (using the same noise chart you made, or a slightly altered one) has their auras revealed. Holding m2 would allow you to climb on/over walls and ceilings, maybe getting a speed boost for a second or two after beginning to climb onto a wall (being ~ a 20% speed boost maybe).
    • Search Mode is a base Killer, with the same general abilities you'd expect. It allows you to, at the click of m2, scan everything within a 24 degree cone in front of you extending out 16 (or whatever value) meters. The auras of all objects in that area are shown to you, including Survivors. The cooldown for this could be anything from 10-20 seconds.
    • Pursuit Mode could be a base Killer, though I wouldn't complain if it was naturally faster than Search Mode (being something like 120-130% speed.) Its m2 would be somewhat akin to Legion, boosting its speed and allowing it to vault windows and pallets extremely quickly, though it would likely only last ~10 seconds and have a cooldown of 30, though without that godawful stun Legion has. For a more original idea, it could be a short burst covering a certain distance depending on how long m2 was held (holding for 1 second would be 8 meters, 2 being 16, 3 being 24 and that being the cap) where you move incredibly fast (like.. from where you start to where you end almost immediately). This wouldn't need a cooldown/slowdown at all, and could be a pretty cool ability in chase to quickly close the distance while still being able to be countered by good play.

I feel like these changes would keep the depth and amount of strategy you want with this Killer while being more responsive to the player themselves, giving the player agency and all. And, for the record, I haven't played Metroid Dread yet-

    Onto the perks.

I feel like Mine Layer is too unique. It's super cool, don't get me wrong, but honestly it seems like it'd be better if they were adapted to be the power of a Killer rather than a perk.

Scourge Hooks are just pretty cool, honestly. I like it.

Soulless Hunter is.. strange? Gaining a token when you're stunned and getting a speed boost at the cost of consuming tokens is cool, but I think consuming all tokens when breaking a pallet/breakable wall would be better; getting a 5% speed boost for each Token consumed. Though, likely the time the speed boost lasts would have to be cut to 5-15 seconds rather than 20. In addition to this, it'd likely need to be unstackable due to how much of a speed boost could be stacked up, and only ~ 4 tokens should be able to be saved at a time.

I appreciate the feedback, particularly the part about the power switching being a headache for console players (I will admit, didn’t take them into consideration when I came up with the idea), however the main reason the power is designed the way it is alongside the different modes being designed the way they are is because of 2 things

1.I wanted this killer to be very unique in how it operates due to how unique the E.M.M.I’s are to me, plus, this is the first fully robotic killer we have, and I wanted that to be reflected in the way it operates

2.I also wanted this killer to be a love letter to Metroid Dread, I love the game, and I loved all of the E.M.M.I encounters, especially the ways they operated differently from one another

if I was to rewrite the concept I would likely remove the wireframe bit from Search and Patrol mode, as well as make Search Mode fully undetectable, however I like the idea of swapping between all of the different abilities on the fly, I think it could be fixed for console players by making it bound to the right trigger for bringing the menu up and then each of the different face buttons for a different ability, but i honestly don’t really know how console DBD operates aside from the several horror stories I’ve read about the experience being overall pretty miserable

side note: play Metroid Dread, I promise you, you will love it if you love metroidvanias

  • Unless we get another patch like Binding of Kin that has even more problems with it (which in of itself would be a impressive fest) I doubt DBD is going to crash and burn in a year’s time even with all of it’s current problems

I don’t think anyone enjoys genuinely feeling scared and having to look over their shoulder; but these are things like games and movies so the appeal is similar to rollercoasters/bungee jumping, as in you can feel the emotions while knowing deep down that you’re safe.

Im terrified of heights but absolutely love rollercoasters no matter how crazy they are; though I would be less eager to jump off a bridge with some elastic tied to my feet ;)

I guess, but for me it’s even worse due to my fear of the unknown, I like being the guy who knows what will and what might happen and being prepared for any outcome, and when a game basically gives me nothing but a shirt to wear and a flashlight, points me to a giant maze that has no lights, and tells me “reach the end, oh, and by the way something might attack you, you’ll know it when you hear it” I immediately start panicking and will probably put the game down and not play it again

  • I don’t like horror personally, I do not like the feeling of constantly looking over my shoulder, not knowing what might show up to maul me to death.

However, I be dammed if I don’t respect the type of atmosphere that can come out of Horror games, the closest i’ve been to playing a horror game was Metroid Dread, and the E.M.M.I’s were absolutely terrifying, I loved the atmosphere, the tension and the pay off of blowing their heads off and getting a power for my efforts

it wore off after I got the Phantom Cloak and was able to sneak past them safely, and it especially wore off after dying to the purple one 20 times because it always knew where I was, but I still loved the early game E.M.M.I encounters with all my heart

I am also a Metroid Fan - you beat me to the punch. However, even if DBD devs wanted to. I don't think NIntendo would want a Metroid killer and survivor ( Samus Aran) in all platforms. I would absolute love it don't get me wrong but its hard for me to believe this. Nintendo is very protective of their IP's especially big time ones. But i love the idea and yes the only survivor would have to be Samus Aran but she is a super human also so I don't know. :) jejeje

While it may be a complete impossibility due to Nintendo's tightfistedness with it's IPs, it is still fun and worth speculating

and who knows, there was a time where people thought Pyramid Head was impossible, and that ended up happening, maybe Nintendo will give us our first fully robotic killer (if BHVR doesn't make their own at some point)

Spirit is the only one able to compete with Nurse BUT you forgot to mention the fact that if you are a top MMR player with the Nurse (maximum MMR, let's say top 1%), all other killers in your roster will have a MMR of top 5%. So you will still face top survivors and won't be able to do anything.

This is the high MMR trials, where even a considered tier S killer into the hands of a high skilled killer do 0 kill.

First screenshot he did 5 hooks, 2 kills and camped to get those kills.

Second screenshot he did 2 hooks only..........

The fact that you didn’t cover the hat, something that only one singular content creator for this game wears on a consistent basis, makes covering his face a bit pointless ngl

  • it doesn’t even have to be a nerf, the devs could announce “we are making Jill’s Sandwich a physical object that any role can eat” and the entire front page would be filled with “people are going to be toxic with the sandwich” or “sandwich led me to getting tunnelled” or “Sandwich OP please nerf”

there are days I question why I’m here, and then there are days where I really am thankful I’m here

  • i'm on my longest break right now, and i will stay on break until SBMM is either fixed or removed

playing against survs way better then me and then proceeding to curbstomp the next team because they're all fresh installs regardless of what killer i use isn't fun, combine that with performance issues and a myriad of other crap has left me burnt out atm

I don't mean to be one of the doubters, but for some reason bhrv even though they are such a large company now takes a long time to work on things like more so than any other game I have played, they make a lot of content, but the quality of that content oftentimes is questionable. Lampkins in my opinion like decisive and Mori's will not be changed in a long long time sadly that is my opinion at that moment, I hope that maybe I'm wrong, but it might be a few years before they stop making new licenses and fixing the old maps.

and even when they do release stuff they add about 50 different bugs in completely unrelated areas that then take a extra 3 months to fix, sometimes they straight up NEVER get fixed (IW on survivors that don't have the perk and pretty much every Nurse bug since her rework come to mind)

This has always been in my mind ever since the All Kill survey came out after the chapter awhile ago. In the license category's on who you would like to see for the video game section they had Final Fantasy in there and it made me wonder would we actually get a villain from that franchise as a killer?

I don't know who it would be cause I've not played a FF game but I do know Sepiroth and I wouldn't mind seeing him in the game as a killer I don't know how he'd work but, I'd like it. Though probably some Survivor players wouldn't cause of his giant sword.

they'd have to nerf the ever living ######### out of him to make him balanced

  • I don’t think a system that either makes me babysit a full team of freshly installed newbies or get my kneecaps and face broken by 8000 hour SWFs is a good system

When was the last time a window or pallet helped you against a competent Nurse?

as for the map thing, a good Nurse withs PC that can actually run the game without random freezes (unlike me because i’m broke) will not care about the map, i will admit though that Lerys is pretty bad for Nurse in general, just not for the very good ones

Voicecomms are breaking the rules of the game as well.

They give survivors information that is purposely hidden otherwise, or is only obtainable through perks. Its basically every tracking perk included as basekit, and more.

And Nurse doesnt ignore 90% of the defence tools. Stealth still works phenomenally against her (she is infact the easiest killer to hide from), jukes still work against (3rd person camera), genrushing still works against her (thats a defence in of itself).

keep in mind I said Voicecomm SWF follow the rules VERY loosely (believe me if I could ban 3rd party communication software from this game I would) and gen rushing isn’t so much a defence as it is one of the few offensive options survivors have, and even then, good luck doing that against any combination of Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer/Deadlock, which makes doing gens borderline impossible,

also, good luck hiding from Nurse on most of the modern maps, where fog is non-existent and bushes are so sparse and thin they might as well not be there, especially if she brings something to track auras (unless you’re going full immersion and using Blendette with a Yamoka offering in which case, get professional help)

Nurse turns the game and chase into a mindgame that doesn't rely on mechanical aspect. It's entirely about who can out-mindgame the other, and any LOS blocker helps with that. With her, "weak" tiles are less weak and "strong" tiles are less strong, because it's not about the mechanical limitations but rather who can better out-mindgame the other with the given tools to gain/block LOS and inconsistent reactions to playstyles.

forgive me for not being educated in complete and utter nonsense but phasing through every goddamn wall and object that every other killer has to play around isn’t a mind game, the only mind game that happens in that situation is if the survivor has iron will and either runs away or tries to hide behind it, and in that case it;s a choice between dying immediately or dying a few seconds later

at least with stand still on Spirit I could see where the argument could be made, but with Nurse? Hell no

Tournament-level SWFs are too much for average players to handle too by that exact same logic. The other thing is the number of said players that can play at that level regardless for survivor or killer are an incredibly tiny percent of the playerbase. The chance of actually facing them in the first place is next to nothing, so they're near irrelevant for overall balance.

See the above statement, neither side is ok and shouldn’t exist, the difference is is that one side still plays within the game’s rules (however loosely they follow them) and mechanics while the other throws 90% of the intended defence tools the other side has in the dumpster

So you want one monster to be kept in check (Nurse)?, but the other monster (skilled 4man) roaming freely with no punishment whatsoever, is completely fine?

Goes to show your clear bias.

You seriously think that I, someone that has routinely said that 4man SWF with voice comms is a massive balancing issue that should be addressed in some way, has bias towards 4man swf? ok then bud,

more to the point, 4man swf with voice comms and all the meta perks under the sun, however many advantages they have and however short the match will end up being can’t ignore the killers power (except Trapper’s because Dead Hard is fair and balanced) and still have to actually play the game, Nurse at the highest level of play doesn’t have to do any of that

  • @SuzuKR said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2494705#Comment_2494705

Or... that Nurse even without experiencing bugs isn't unstoppable by any means against good teams?

I’m talking more about average players, I.e the people the devs actually want to balance around

tournaments are a entirely different can of worms that the devs don’t care about, and I will admit that surfs have the advantage there, but like I said, they don’t matter

the devs won’t fix Nurse because she’s too much for average players to handle, simple as thst

Yeah that's why tournament SWF teams have regularly 3-4 man escaped against some of the world's best Nurses though :v

I’m not happy about Nurse matches being decided by ######### coding. But if I was to make the choice between inconsistent bugs keeping a monster of a power in check, or letting that monster loose with nothing to keep it in check, I’d take the inconsistent bugs any day of the week

She's balanced WITHOUT the bugs holding her back. The bugs don't happen every single time so they're not factored into balance. Fixing the bugs changes nothing except making her perform at the level she is SUPPOSED to be performing at/is balanced around.

explain to me how ignoring everything but walls (and even then, aura reading go brrr) is balanced

Nurse is the only killer in the entire game that can end the match within the first 2 minutes. Something that not even Spirit or Blight can do on account of having to actually play the damn game

The only things holding Nurse back from being a DC on sight for most people is the bugs and amount of time it takes to master her, she isn’t balanced, nothing can realistically top her consistently and nothing ever will

  • @TacitusKilgore said:

Wow that video is super painful and i don't even play nurse. I imagine BHVR are just very scared of fixing bugs on her because her powers code is probably very dated.

They should have some insensitive to fix them because clearly they only care about the bugs that give advantages so I'm hoping they take a look into these bugs and actually fix all of them this time, I know they fixed the looking upwards while fatiguing bug, but some of these bugs have been in the game for actual literal years and in particular its the ones that I see every game as Nurse that I really wish they would fix or at least give some indication they listen.

Do keep in mind that Nurse, even after receiving a cooldown to her power, nerfing the majority of her addons, AND having all of these bugs, is still capable of completely steamrolling every single match she is in on account of essentially playing a entirely different game to the rest of the cast

the bugs are honestly the one thing keeping her in check and half the time they don’t even matter, so the devs have to either make the choice between fixing Nurse or leaving her as is, and they pick leaving her as is because actually balancing something that ignores 90% of the survivors defences is a goddamn nightmare
