  • I keep them in the game as long as possible until they either DC or bleed out

This perk is one of those interesting cases where there can be quite a large gap between its efficiency in general use and its projected value in very specific, often controlled circumstances. On the PTB, while we heard concerns of the latter, we didn't see concerning signs of it being too powerful in practical use.

All that said, though, we're keeping an eye on how it performs on Live and fully encourage you to share your practical experiences with us if you see it performing too strongly in-game!

I think a lot of people assume that theoretical scenarios that only happen in a controlled environment are the same as actual scenarios that happen in actual gameplay. I've been running Fast Track in SoloQ a lot since the buff and while it is good and can be a game changer, it hasn't really struck me as this game-breaking META Definer that everyone says it is.

But given that the same thing happened to Shoulder The Burden, Duty of Care, Last Stand, Conviction, etc. I'm not exactly surprised

  • Blight without question.

He's been able to dominate 99.999% of lobbies since he got added, has completely warped map design by requiring every map have 50 resources within 6 feet of each other just to make him feel fair to play against, has a power that encourages bad/sweaty/toxic players to constantly run back to hook and tunnel regardless of the game state, has gotten multiple perks nerfed because he could abuse them so well, and has never had a substantial nerf to his kit despite him being the strongest killer in the game by a wide margin for the last 6 ######### years because people will scream bloody Mary if he gets even the slightest power reduction.

Blight isn't just a elephant in the room, he is the entire goddamn herd.

  • Shoulder is one of the most overhyped perks in the entire game and isn't worth using 95% of the time

  • Dunno how to tell you this but this has been the case since the game launched

  • I would say he isn't but I can see how someone would think he was. Especially if you're like me and play First with a bunch of aura reading perks.

I wouldn't be against his power getting a small cooldown increase but I wouldn't complain if he stayed the way he is right now.

  • I doubt a ranked mode will ever actually happen, and even if it does get added, a grand total of less then a hundred people would even play it

  • I can think of one series in particular that has a lot of those
It's a fairly popular license, owned by a company BHVR has good relations with, the vast roster offers plenty of variety and flexibility in what kind of Killer Power BHVR might want to design, more then a few of said roster can be easily turned into scary and terrifying additions given the right reframing and it's something I in particular never shut up about

    Also rhymes with Sh-Monster Hunter

  • As nice as never going up against Nurse, Blight, or Kaneki would be, all that would result in is, well, people who play those killers never getting a match ever again. Not to mention that it'd be yet another thing that SWF would be able to easily abuse to make their matches substantially easier, as they can coordinate who they want to ban where Solos can't

  • This idea has been floated around before, and while I do see where you're coming from, it'd just create the same problem that Killers already have, where the most powerful effects are the only ones you'll ever see.

Survivors should just stay as skins, adding more effects onto a already bloated system would not end well

  • I will say this once again, good, I'm glad it got changed, Stevegull was funny exactly once, hearing the exact same joke repeated so many times it unironically reaches into the quadruple digits isn't funny, it's obnoxious, especially when said joke's entire punchline is "Hey aren't Steve's screams incredibly loud and jarring for no reason? Isn't that funny? Wouldn't it be funnier if I combined it with Scene Partner to constantly bleet out the same 3 voiceclips over and over and over and over again every single chase? Isn't that funny?!"

The joke is dead, my ears and my patience are glad it's dead, and may BHVR do the same to the rest of the incredibly grading screams some of the Survivors have so that the joke never comes back.

  • Good, I'm glad it's changed

The Stevegull joke was funny exactly once, every single time I've seen a Steve with Scene Partner after that I've been annoyed by it

  • I don’t know what I was expecting when I read that title I’m gonna be honest

Monster Hunter is an excellent suggestion! Maybe we could get Gore Magala & the Deserted Island 🟣🏝️

Personally I'd go for either Yian Garuga, Alatreon, or Malzeno, but the Magalas are cool too

  • Honestly all I want is a Monster Hunter chapter

With the current state of the game balance, tunneling is a necessary condition for just having a chance at winning against a competent SWF on comms. They will run 16 second chance perks and take 7 hits for each hook state each, making it only possible to secure a kill if you just focus one guy. You will finish consuming his endurances and hastes just when they pop the last gen, if you are lucky. If tunneling becomes impossible, but SWFs continue to be allowed to the general queue and second chance perks are not nerfed, the kill rate will drop to 5% at the higher MMR brackets, and these 5% will be due to the cheaters with insta kill bots.

If you are tired of playing survivor - just play killer, and after a few 4k's and leaving the baby MMR bracket you will start encountering the invincible quartets and the Achaemenid immortals I'm talking about, you will quickly change your mind after hitting a guy 8th time in a row and still failing to actually hook him.

Maybe in the imaginary other-world where killer mains only run into seal team 6 every game Tunnelling is necessary, in the real world that we actually live in you can win without tunnelling with ease if you’re paying even the smallest amount of attention

You are not dealing with 4 man SWF goof troops every match, going out of your way to win serves no purpose, stop hiding behind the idea of needing to tunnel in order to win

  • @Leon_van_Straken said:

Thats really not a good take…

That like saying you got a perk which instantly finishes all gens when all Survivors are doing one at the same time and argue with "Well no team can pull it off" so this perk is useless…

You need to look for stong perks at the full potential and not the RNG of other Survivors.

    Personally, I think the opposite

Yes, looking at the absolute best case scenario for a perk can be a indicator of it's strength, but you also have to take into consideration its worst case scenario, and how easy it is to actually get value from it. You also have to consider that the majority of people that play DBD are not very good at DBD, and are not going to care enough to try and get value out of a perk if it requires anything more then a single button press.

Being blunt, nobody is going to care about a perk's best case scenario if it requires jumping through seven different hoops and it's more prone to doing nothing then anything else. This is why perks like Duty of Care, Conviction, and Shoulder The Burden are almost never seen in games, just because they're strong on paper does not mean they're strong in practice.

Give me a break lmao. Just shut the game down at this point like tf?

How about we don’t give a community known for being toxic more opportunities to be jackasses to each other, yeah?

Like ignoring any impacts on gameplay it would have, and it would have several, at this point in the game’s lifespan you do have to consider how something will be used to BM on some level, DBD Players will find any and all ways to BM, it’s just what happens with a game like this

It happened with the Leatherface masks, it happened with Unknown and Orela, it still happens with humping on the ground, we should know better by now

  • I do, the added advance warning and wind-up to the instadown makes it substantially less annoying when Myers comes at you with Tier 3 ready

  • You can’t, unless the preventions are so extreme that they render the tunnelled survivor unkillable by any means.

Ignoring any arguments about efficiency or needing to win for a moment, some people tunnel just to be pricks, they want one person in particular dead for whatever reason and do not care how much they’re throwing the match to do so, You could hypothetically make it impossible or otherwise useless from a efficiency standpoint by either making spreading out hooks more efficient or by making tunnelling much more difficult, but that won’t stop the people who just want to be a dick for their own amusement

It’s the same way you can’t really fix Survivors staying by the gates to force the Killer to make them leave or stall out the match. If spite is the only motivation then people will simply find a way.

  • No it actually could work pretty well

For Killer it’s really simple, the more hooks you get and the more Survivors you kill the more MMR you gain, you could also add stuff like how fast your chases are, how well you kept gens stalled, etc.

For Survivor it’s also fairly simple, how long did you keep the Killer busy in chase, how many heals did you provide for your team, how many gens did you do, etc.

And also showing people their MMR and how playing in certain ways affects it, that would also be really nice.

However, the current MMR system doesn’t factor in any of this, for Killer it only factors in kills and for Survivor it only factors in escapes, its purpose is to get people into matches faster, not accurately put people of similar skill levels together, that’s why everyone complains about it, it’s a random number generator wearing the skin of a SBMM system.

After that logik are Trappers and Hags abiliity only passiv aswell.

It´s a set up to shut down a loop or not?

The difference being that Hag and Trapper’s set up actually can shut down loops

Old SM’s traps did functionally nothing if the survivor had basic sense and left the loop, it took forever for the drones to do literally anything, hence why the most effective strategy became placing them at generators and nothing else.

Can you get me logs after you experience the crash? These need to be captured after you receive the error.

Windows Key + R to open the "Run" command.

    1. In the text box paste the following: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\DeadByDaylight\Saved\Logs
    2. Click "OK" - this will open your Dead by Daylight Logs folder.
      • If it does not open the Dead by Daylight Logs folder, it may mean that when installing Dead by Daylight you chose to save your files somewhere else and will need to check there.
    3. The file called "DeadByDaylight.log" is your log file

    Thank you!

There was an error displaying this embed. DeadByDaylight.log

Here's the log I have from today, it should have a report on the crash in it somewhere

So, if you were to prioritize the issues to help DBD you would start with the tutorial? Not saying you're wrong, a better tutorial can help out newbies. But just by the way you previously spoke about it doesn't seem like the tutorial would be at the top of your list.

Yes, it absolutely would be at the top of my list

The single biggest speedbump in getting new players to stick with DBD long term is the fact that it is exhausting to actually learn the basics of how Killers work and how Survivors can play against them. If you want new and casual players to stick with the game, you have to help them get over the knowledge wall, and a proper tutorial that shows them the basics against every Killer would be where I'd start, not a ranked mode nobody would play.

  • @ImperatorHaze said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4023341#Comment_4023341

I didn't say ranked mode was to encourage new or casual players to play the game. I said it might be easier for them to get into the game as a ranked mode would divert some of the competitive players away. The ranked mode is not to draw new people in because of the "serious experience" lol, what?

Like I said there are pros and cons to it. What do you think would help the game?

    A actual tutorial for starters

  • The short answer is lol no.

DBD is, at its core, a unserious, busted, intentionally unbalanced mess, this is not a game where a Ranked mode makes sense. Secondly, a Ranked mode is not how you encourage new or casual players to play the game, people are drawn to it by licenses and the fact that it's fun to play with friends, not because it's a serious experience, and thirdly, the intended audience of "People who want a more competitive option" is a audience comprised of less then 1% of the playerbase, and the majority of them don't even play Competitive, they just sweat in normal lobbies because they get a kick out of curbstomping people who aren't playing on their level, they wouldn't touch Ranked because their egos wouldn't be able to handle it, and the people who do actually play Competitive already have Custom Games that they play their tournaments in anyway, it'd just be a waste of dev-time.

  • I prefer to think of it as mobility killers being so flagrantly overpowered they’ve warped the game entirely around them

  • Heaven forbid the developers make a joke at a unfun playstyle’s expense I guess

  • Eh, not really

Like sure we've gotten Killers like Kaneki and Krasue, Blight and Nurse still haven't been nerfed, the meta is still quad slowdown, and the majority of killers are hovering around 60% Killrate, but despite that…I don't really see it

Like survivors just got a massive pallet density increase on the majority of maps in the game recently, making every killer besides the top 6 weaker because survivors now have more resources to work with, and numerous perks mix and match together in various ways that are very strong, Survivor has many options, especially in a SWF that communicates, but the reason Survivor is still "weak" is because the majority play solo, and solo Q is chock full of people who not only don't use the tools that are available to them, but can't handle going against the majority of killers because they simply have no effective or efficient way of learning how to play against them without getting friends together in a custom game.

When going up against survivors that are actually competent, have comms, and don't quit at the first sign of hardship as any killer that isn't the top 6, DBD can feel like a nightmare when playing Killer, but the reason this isn't the case usually is because, when playing killer, you're going up against 4 solos the majority of the time, who all might be individually competent, but can't share information on perks or the state of the game with each other. If BHVR decided to ever add a in-game voice-chat and make a tutorial that doesn't completely suck, Survivors would absolutely be way stronger, but they aren't because SoloQ remains as it always has.

As it stands right now, the game is Killer Sided some games, Survivor Sided other games, it is what it is

  • @Cassiopeiae said:

Statistics will always be objective fact and therefore way more accurate in reflecting reality than subjective experience.

By this logic, Nurse is the worst killer in the game, and therefore should be buffed

  • If Evolve came back without being a Microtransaction hell DBD would be fixed within the span of a month

  • It's been a mix of recent crap patches and other games coming out that interest me more then DBD
I doubt I'll ever fully quit until the servers are shut down, since I still do have fun with it and have faith the game will turn itself around as it always does, but between Silksong, Hades 2, my recent reinterest in modded Minecraft, and BHVR making a string of recent bad decisions have just given me a feeling of "Why bother"

If the Halloween event's fun though, I'll definitely play more

  • I mean, we already have Tokyo Ghoul, manga are basically Japanese comic books

Never say never on comic books proper getting into the game

  • image.png

This fact hasn't changed in the last 9 years, nobody is going to play the ranked game mode when the majority of the player base is either casual or only interested in curb-stomping casuals. You are NEVER going to get people to take this game seriously if you don't give people the mother of all incentives and actually straight up rewire how the player base thinks and treats DBD.

A ranked mode will never fix the issue of tryhards in this game, it has never been a solution to a tryhard problem in any game, and it never will be.

  • Niche and underplayed are not inherently bad things. Artist might have problems but the fact that she requires more effort then other killers to get good results with and thus is harder to get into playing then others isn't one of them.

Not every killer needs to be Blight, and quite frankly we need less killers like Blight, not more

  • Honestly? Just remove Leeched on unhook and remove her pallet vault, those are the biggest problems she has atm

  • Where exactly all of this hype for Frank Stone was when the game actually released and then subsequently failed less then a week later I will never know

Maybe if people actually liked the glorified extended cutscene that is The Casting of Frank Stone, we’d actually get a full chapter.

  • Fun to play as, not really fun to play against

The pallet vault is something she just straight up does not need

  • @JustHelping said:

I understand scamper is a problem, but if you nerf it even more giving it more time, how can she catch up to survivors in loops with headform? No killer instinct, no way to break the palette. Power back to body Form to break it and waste time? Just wondering what your suggestions are 😊 cause im not really sure.

Maybe if they gave her the option to break it in headform it would be ok?

Honestly I wouldn’t be against making Krasue struggle more in loops, she already has plenty of mobility for catching up in dead zones and patrolling the map, having the weakness of needing to swap back to body form to deal with some loops would give her some extra counterplay she honestly is in serious need of

  • I will be very happy when Tombstone is dead and buried

You can only be backrev mori’d because your teammates have the perception of a dead snail and fed Michael 99% Stalk so many times before you actively never want to see Myers ever again

  • Because that's how it works on every killer, Wraith is just the only one who can't immediately attack you if you vault into them

  • Strictly speaking, no it isn't

Competitive games are generally well balanced, have rewards for winning (however minor they may be) as well as punishments for losing, and are generally predictable and actually encourage players to try and improve and "git gud" as they say.

DBD, in contrast, is 80% RNG by volume, has had and still has balancing so bad it's almost intentional, breaks itself every other patch, is almost completely unpredictable, has zero rewards for winning and zero punishments for losing, and has pretty much never encouraged the player-base to actually get good and try to win.

60 people playing a "Competitive" format in customs does not a Competitive game make

  • However much the systems being needed aside, it was very clear that the version on the PTB was very heavy handed and punished behaviour that most people can generally agree wasn't tunnelling, not to mention a lot of the post-hook buffs the survivors got heavily affected weaker killers and didn't affect the strong ones at all. Therefore it needed adjustments, which BHVR are hopefully doing

  • @ForumUsername said:

Btw this whole thread is dumb.

It is only your opinion what is fun, not everyone will agree with you on what is fun. And I have found the people who want to play for fun are the same ones that can not win consistently when actually trying against skilled players in any game of any genre.

This reminds me of giving out participation trophies in school sports like #########?

I feel like at this point you are missing the point on purpose

Dead By Daylight is not, has never been, and in all likelihood will never be a competition. There is no participation trophy because there isn't even a trophy to begin with, there is zero reason to engage in a strategy most people agree isn't fun or fair when playing in a way that lets everyone enjoy the match accomplishes the same thing, if your attitude is "The strategy most of the community says isn't fun is fine because it's the most efficient way to win and anyone who disagrees or thinks that's not fun needs to just git gud" in a game where you don't even get something as small as a in-game stat tracker, you are the problem, not the other players.

Following your analogy, your opinion is the equivalent of that one kid who tries extremely hard in a team sport and gets really mad at his team, and even the other team, for not trying as hard as he is, even though the entire point of the game they're playing is to just have fun and enjoy being outside, yeah sure that one kid is probably doing well, but nobody else cares and nobody is impressed, if anything they'd probably get scolded afterwards by their parents for being a sore winner and bringing down the mood of everybody else that's there.

Again, playing to win is fine, you can also win without being that guy, and when there's no reward incentive for winning, playing like that guy serves no purpose, so don't be that guy

  • Personally I’m a fan, Myers is one of the weakest and easily the most boring killer in the entire game and was in desperate need of literally anything to do beyond backrevving people with Tombstone, and this rework did precisely that

  • @oecrophy said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/456172/the-dbd-community-has-a-win-at-all-cost-problem

Sarcasm aside, how what can we as a community to do to make Tunnelling, and by extension other unfun strategies, less of a issue? Simple really, take a load off and relax. Killers don't have to tunnel, Survivors don't have to rush generators, both sides can take in a match to goof off, chase each other, maybe get some funny clips. Matches don't need to end in 5 minutes nor do does someone have to be taken out in 2 minutes, this is a casual game with a lot of RNG and balancing so comically bad its almost intentional. Nobody has to play like this is a competitive tournament with money on the line.

maybe it’s just my mentality, but peak DBD is when both sides play for the W.

Tunneling’s a legit fun part of that. First chase? I’ve got the whole map and every resource to work with — that’s real interaction. After the tunnel’s done, the next person in line has way less to play around; map’s trimmed, pallets gone — way spicier, way more pressure. If the killer keeps target-swapping and no real chase happens, it’s mid. its not fun the moment the Kiler only tries to get people at dead zone gens with constant target switching.

I like the tunnel, I like breaking a hard tunnel, I like clean body blocks and team play. ‘Let’s not try’ matches are gray and boring.

Love when both sides sweat for the win.

but.. i dk, I’m into 1v1s too. Kinda the same as a tunnel — you just try to hold it forever and burn every resource on the map.

I don’t mind when both sides play for the win. Anything else is boring,.. no? :/

While I do appreciate your viewpoint and certainly see where you’re coming from, I do feel like you’re missing out on the bigger picture a bit

As I said, if the Killer and the Survivor are having fun tunnelling/getting tunnelled, that still leaves the 3 other survivors who aren’t getting to have that same fun, and the issue also comes that if the Killer tunnels someone to death and that person uses up most of the map’s resources, well, what do the other 3 have to work with? The match is essentially already over before anyone else gets to really play if the Tunnelled survivor dies before enough gens are done, the other 3 have nothing to work with and are basically stuck in a dead game while the killer picks them off

I do agree that the game is fun when both sides are actually trying, but I do feel like that needs to come with the asterisk of “Also playing fairly”, meaning that they’re all playing in a way where everyone has a chance to show off their skills rather then the game ending almost instantly, those kinds of games are great, but the mentality of “I must win no matter what and to hell what the other side thinks” is one I really wish the community would let go of

Winning is great, it should not come at the cost of making matches worse

  • @ForumUsername said:

If your not going to play to win then why bother loading into any game that has competition. Go play tetris or super mario where no one will bother to try to win against you so you can have "fun" your way.

This is the mentality I mean, competition implies there’s stakes, real and tangible rewards for winning as well as losses for losing, what exactly do you gain from winning or lose from losing a match of DBD? A couple of pips? Some blood points? Invisible points on a MMR system that might as well not exist? You get nothing, you lose nothing, the only “reward” is personal fulfilment, and you can get that without making the match unfun for everybody else

I’m not saying don’t play to win, I’m saying don’t play like a ######### when playing like a ######### doesn’t even get you anything

  • I for one will be waiting with a bowl of popcorn and laughing, the fallout will make for excellent Schadenfreude
