  • Sometimes I just bring Franklin's on a killer even if I don't see items in the lobby for the hell of it--you'd be surprised how often this works out.

Tombstone is fun but pretty situational. I think my first time as Myers I used it and only got a 2k. Throw in tuft of hair though and now the survivors are gonna start pissing theirselves

Tombstone Piece, not just basic Tombstone. Basic Tombstone is fine--I love seeing that in play; a free Mori with a purple add-on seems a bit off, though, in my opinion.

I dont think thats intended you are supposed to take another hit with snowman. So even if exposed I should take a hit with snowman.

But Im not english maybe I didnt understand the patch notes.

Yes me too I want more snow map. I can imagine a forest in a snow night, very dark and no main building. Just a forest. The killer could be the Yeti or the Wendigo !

To explain better: the snowman gives a survivor a kind of "false" health state (apparently labeled the "disguised" health state? That's my best guess from the points you get from it) above healthy--they can take an extra basic attack so long as they aren't mid-animation.

However, a hit while you are exposed will almost always put a survivor in the dying state; in the case of the snowmen, it puts the survivor from the disguised state into the dying state.

So, yeah, it's probably not explained well in the event description.

Edit: Website ate my formatting--fixed now.

  • @Anara said:

I was downed by a Haunted Ground while I was in a Snowman walking around, they are fun but a bit buggy. But its still my favorite event so far !

That's intended, actually! Exposed effects down you, and killer powers hurt you--but yeah, it's a pretty neat event! Wish more maps had snow, tbh, but maybe that's just me.

    @Impartiality said:

They get bugged every now and then, sometimes the killer has no cooldown after the hit either

That's a latency issue due to the improper collision of the snowmen, as far as I understand. That's what I understand from what I was told, anyway--so take it with a grain of salt.

  • Again, I disliked a great many of Scott's suggestions in his fake patch video, but the BBQ-style bonus for the maximum amount of grouped survivors was pretty nifty sounding. Give little links between survivors that are partied together Overwatch-style (was it overwatch that did that? It's been a while...)

Tru said Pinhead wasn’t very good EXCEPT when he used the pre-nerf Engineers Fang. Using the old version of the Fang he considered him really solid. After the Fang nerf he considers him total trash and the add-on to be worthless.

Mind you, I am not saying I agree with those statements, I’m just clarifying what his opinion is. Personally I think Pinhead isn’t top tier, but I also think Fang is still his best add-on even after losing a chain against injured survivors. Next time you hear someone say Fang is trash, ask them what add-on they’d run instead and enjoy the mental gymnastics floorshow as they try to explain how “its trash but they’d still use it but they won’t play Pinhead any more because he’s too weak so it doesn’t matter what his other add-ons are and Fang was the only reason he was good, but chains are worthless so losing a chain hurts him a ton even though they don’t do much, etc.”

Liquified Gore and the candles, personally.

The Box cannot spawn within X meters of a Survivor or the Killer. With Lethal Pursuer, you get to see where Survivors spawn, and you obviously know where you've spawned. This tells you pretty much exactly where the Box is, allowing you to get easy early game pressure.

Likewise, many good Pinhead's can pinpoint (HA) the next likely location of the Box when they pick it up.

Every time I see someone say the box "can't" spawn near survivors, I have to share the story where the box spawned literally in the middle of shack, during an active chase in shack, with all the survivors running around the shack.

My personal favorite incorrect take from a killer standpoint is that the Tombstone Piece is a perfectly balanced add-on and in no way poorly designed or significantly stronger than most other purple add-ons.

My top two "excuse me?" takes are that:

    1. Cheating is completely excusable and justified because it's "just a game, bro lmao."

    2. The devs never listen or try new things, which is kind of a silly idea because they do test a multitude of things that we never see or hear about. I mean, doesn't mean that they're right about everything, necessarily--but they're not completely incompetent.

  • I run Knock Out and Surveillance as guarantees, personally.

I think they're fairly appropriate, considering the obsessive degree that Umbrella will monitor experiments to (when it is plot convenient, at least) and his massive punching hands.

  • @Akumakaji said:

I instadown and hook them, but obviously dont dwell on the matter and do it repeatedly. Its their loss for not paying attention and the survivors wouldn't stop doing gens if they discover an AFK killer, right?

Actually, in my experience, survivors will cleanse all the totems, run about in basement, and open chests and such to get extra points before finishing the gens.

I know I personally check for totems before finishing gens up just in case of a cheeky NOED build, but I get your point.

  • A Meg t-bagged me multiple times during a Huntress match, so I made her and her four friends wait for Meg to bleed out after I killed the rest.

Just, perhaps. But no less a sin.

I've been playing since 2019 and they've always locked announcement threads a little while after they're posted. Within a day, from my experience.

    Thanks for the confirmation!

There you have it, @BuddhaBing, it's literally standard procedure, no underhanded laziness to it.

  • @BuddhaBing said:

So rather than continuing to delete comments, you just completely stop all discussion? That seems like a really lazy solution. Delete the death threats and abusive comments, sure, but there's no reason to lock the thread other than to avoid the negative PR.

Did you at least bring the valid criticism to the attention of the devs?

She literally said that's what they do to all the announcement threads.

    Selective hearing, much?

Can't check right now if they actually do, but I full-on believe Mandee offhand--I sincerely doubt she'd lie about something that disprovable.

Edit due to formatting gods: To be fair, you have a point that it would be better to foster rational discussion, but fortunately that's what we have these forums for--oh, wait.

  • Don't endorse violence, It's literally against the rules.

Don't endorse endorsing violence either, you gooses, do you want to get bans? I know I don't.

Keep how punchable you find people to yourself, or be polite about it (yes, you can be polite about it)--as is, you sound like smooth-brained thugs, and I know you're better than that. That didn't come off as caring as I intended, but know I just want you to go send time with someone who loves you for a bit.

On topic, I watched the video for kicks; even though I don't necessarily like or agree with Scott, I value collecting the input of others to better understand different perspectives.

I was impressed by some of the suggestions, not so impressed with others; I'd elaborate, but it's off to work for me for a good while, and I need get back to it.

Or the server where you're connected to is far away and maybe makes you connection unstable.

Don't speak for everyone, as I never cared about facing doc.

He's always been easy and still easy.

I don't understand why people have any problems with him, some say it's the flickering of the madness, some say he gets "free" info, many different excuses.

Every killer has something people don't like, it's something you have to get used to, it's never an excuse to dc

It's the noise for me, personally. Tier three gives me a migraine--I won't DC, but it still low-key pisses me off, and I'll do my level best to avoid getting there as long as possible.

  • I will also say that as a survivor, hitting the skill check feels engaging--like I'm actually stabbing someone! Between automatic escapes and tricking myself into thinking I'm more skilled than I am, I'll stick with the self-delusion, thank-you-very-much!

Please don't take my shoulder-stabbing simulator away...

I think some of his cosmetics definitely are, maybe even his lore, but his visual design is 100% Jason. A big, hulking bald guy with a machete and parental issues? His mask is also way closer to Jason's.

Honestly, he's got some animation mannerisms as well. The idle head-rock and vault animation are either hella reminiscent, or I'm somehow projecting.

  • Unpopular opinion: if you missed the skill check, you either didn't deserve to live, or big momma spider really wanted to drag you up to spider heaven.

  • @NomiNomad said:

When Wraith is watching a Survivor while invisible, he gets stalker points. He might have even gotten them before Myers and Ghostface, but I don't know.

The first three Killers are kinda like BHVR's versions of classic Slashers.

    Trapper is very obviously Jason

Hillbilly is like the most obvious being a Leatherface clone

And I think Wraith was their version of Myers. He's even got the head tilts.

Not going to lie: low-key, I was pretty sure Trapper was supposed to be nod to My Bloody Valentine.

  • The site [BAD WORD] me for no reason and are my draft, so here's a lightning round on perk suggestions:

Dying Light: If it deactivates when the obsession is killed, then a 2-3% increase in the slowdown. If not, then just one percent. At the very least, the obsession should be affected by the slowdown.

Furtive Chase: Decreases terror radius by two meters for each stack, deactivates for 30-50 seconds when you down survivors (to enable counterplay). Probably should still deactivate when the obsession is killed.

Hangman's Trick: Make it a Scourge Hook perk. Seriously. Mayhaps make it injure survivors who sabotage it?

I am also of the opinion that Monstrous Shrine should be a Scourge Hook perk if it affects hooks, for the sake of consistency.

Territorial Imperative: Either it should do more, or have less restrictions--killer instinct would not be remiss. That or my old stand-by: make it a Scourge Hook perk!

Beast of Prey: A one percent increase in movement speed while in chase? Map-wide TR until undetectable status at Bloodlust one? Both?

Huntress's Lullaby: Additional 3-6% regression for each stack. Is this punishing? Yes. It's a hex perk that requires survivors to fail, so I don't see a problem with it being punishing.

Unnerving Presence: good skill checks are always the t3 size, make the incremental change apply to a reduction in great skill check sizes. Tremendously increase the chances of triggering skill checks.

Probably more, but I can't remember them.

  • She's surprisingly cute, for a soulless ginger.

Also, she's got a hella cute butt, which is interesting CONSIDERING SOME POOR KILLERS.

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again: Trickster, as much as he is disliked, technically has a more interactive power than Huntress.

    Do I like him more?

Not really. Mom's still best in my heart.

But, admittedly, her power doesn't have much to it.

S'okay, Mom--I still love you most; no pretty-boy Korean pop star is going to change that.

  • You know, I love the idea of complaining about Hexes being uncleansable for a day or so, and yet the Boons are getting disabled faster because of favoritism and totally not because the kill switch has only just been implemented. Like others have mentioned. Repeatedly.

Anyway, goodnight. I'll be more rational and have more to contribute tomorrow.

In your previous post, you mentioned the killer quick-switching at the last second, I just called attention to the question: "how would survivors know what killer they're facing in the lobby?" Should've worded it that way but that is what I meant.

Referencing my own post, third party programs.

I remember there was one that would show you the killer and their entire loadout (perks, add-ons, offering)--and worse, people actually defended using it, on both sides.

    Disgusting.

  • Sorry to say it, but the survivors don't get to be salty; only I, as the killer have the right to the salt--no time for your camping/tunneling/boosted/baby killer accusations, no, no.

I'm on a mission to berate you for letting your solo queue teammate die on their first hook while I was chasing the obsession across the map while Kindred was in play! Why the hell would you do that!?

In all seriousness, I "enjoy" getting called out for "pretending to farm" as Amanda, when I make it extremely clear that I don't want to--just because I let you reset after you all dived at me looking to boop doesn't mean I'm friendly, only that I'm fair.

  • I loved using Huntress's Lullaby for how thematic it is on Huntress, but got tired of it doing next to nothing until it got cleansed by the third-ish hook, so I switched to Devour Hope!

    Does it help? Kinda!

It encourages me to play differently right up until survivors cleanse it, or I get the fifth stack!

Also, I got tired of being told to kill myself for running a "worthless perk and making us waste our time cleansing it," every three matches or so :)

... So I decided to be a little meaner and give them an actual reason to hate me; honestly, It works out pretty well :)

  • @chargernick85 said:

To hard to crouch for few seconds?

Apparently for all my solo queue teammates, yeah.

    ( ;__;)

  • It was interesting how often I'd find a lobby full of Calm Spirits when I would switch from Doctor to Wraith.

I mean, it only happened seven times, but that's still a lot--one gentleman even called me out for it :)

It's always nice to mess with people who use third-party programs to cheat; shame I can't do that specific maneuver anymore.

  • Has anyone suggested Agitation and Mad Grit?

    No? Then I am.

Agitation and Mad Grit, little dude--they're your friend if the survivors want to be foolish little gooses and run to their deaths by being overly altruistic.

  • Monstrous Shrine and Hangman's Trick would both make for interesting Scourge Hook perks.

Coulrophobia having a lingering effect would actually work pretty well.

My favorite suggestion I've heard to make Cruel Limits very strong was to block around survivors rather than the completed gen.

Lightweight and Predator both need buffs or reworks--I sure as hell don't know what to do with them.

I'm actually pretty okay with Sole Survivor as it is, having both played it and played against it--if anything, I'd like a minor additional effect on top of what it does.

    Huntress's Lullaby needs a buff, hands-down.

Someone suggested having Unnerving Presence inflict madness one, on top of another effect that I can no longer remember, that was neat.

Furtive Chase and Deathbound need a touch-up.

    Dying Light needs a change.

Those are just a few--I'm sure there are others that are escaping me right now.

  • I play to the best of my ability, and if they hold the game hostage, then I wait them out--they'll leave before I do, and every hour that they waste time in the match with me is another that nobody else has to deal with them.

In related news, I've made excellent progress through my book collection, and I genuinely think that they're too stupid to realize what I've been doing.

On the other side, If they're foolish after the match is over, I just leave after repotting them--I've likely already gotten what I came for.

Who is trying to get anyone killed? I don't remember that being part of the conversation.

It's not "inane philosophical debate". The idea that anyone has to censor themselves to protect other people's feelings is a bad direction to take things. There are controls in place to mute anything directed towards a person both in post-game chat and on every platform. People should be taught to utilize them, and to remember that words cannot hurt you.

"No one should have the right to insult someone" does not equal "people should be more neighborly".

"People should be neighborly" is part of what I said throughout my comments. But, that's expecting everyone to reach a consensus, and that's never practical. Some people just want to be mean, and that's why it's smarter to help people learn to deal with that meanness than to simply stifle all speech to protect them.

One solution is pragmatic and reasonable. One requires authoritarian levels of control.

Sorry, you just mentioned that people can't hurt you over the internet if they're upset (or something of the like) in an earlier comment in that conversation: I've gotten two mail bombs after being threatened after a match, so I was objecting to that view rather harshly.

And in the current context? The bits about "it's a slippery slope to a totalitarian state," are unrelated to the general conversation. Fair points? Sure, it's a valid argument. But correct me if I'm wrong: nobody was asking for a police state to be instituted. If I am wrong, I apologize--it's been a long forty-three hours, and it's entirely possible that I missed something.

  • @Rhoska said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2559825#Comment_2559825

The chat is filtered for profanity.

Its literally impossible for anyone to say something in the chat that would offend you or hurt your feelings.

As to you wanting someone ELSE to restrict expression and punish for it, on your behalf, thats a very slippery slope, and you ought perhaps why you want to go down it.

Actually, you can call someone a "#########-mired ghetto rat deserving nothing but death and pain," and tell them that they "should just die like the rest of your mongrel race already."

Not that I know this from experience or anything. Just a hypothetical, of course.

    @Billy_Capră said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2559560#Comment_2559560

But who defines what is an insult? Anybody could become insulted by anything. So, who becomes the judge and jury there?

That thought process is a very slippery slope into totalitarianism. I could say something that I find to be perfectly innocent, but if you take offense to it, then did I do something "illegal" (for lack of a better word)? Who decides it? Who looks into the context? Who checks to see where the person who made the statement was coming from? Maybe they were offended by actions that were taken on them in game and are defending themselves.

Again, "no one should have the right" is dangerous territory to go down. It's better to help pick people up when needed than to smother society completely.

Again, if people feel so strongly they're right that they try to get you literally killed after, things are probably worse than they should be--don't degrade into inane philosophical debate; nobody's asking for a police state to monitor what everyone says, does, and thinks in order to screen "those bad, bad thoughts." It's pretty clear that people are asking for everyone to be at least vaguely neighborly. I don't think that's a crazy thing to desire--if it is, then lock me up already, Doc.

Anyway, have a nice day--I ought to be back to work.

I was going to be all "You fool! I've already apologized! Muahahahaha!"

But then I realized that no, I actually didn't apologize properly in that edit, so I'd best lay it down: I'm sorry that I came at you like that. It wasn't right of me to take figurative shots at you just because I took offense to the way you worded things, and then further think poorly of you due to things that you didn't even say--hella uncool of me, m'dude.

Here's to hoping you have a good day as well, yeah?

  • None, unless it's thematic for the killer, or accidental, like the one time that Mindbreaker extended the game an extra 5 minutes against a SWF that wanted to do slick exhaustion perk maneuvers. S'neat finding all the counterintuitive ways to slow down generator progress, honestly.

  • Hey, if the killer's camping, they're probably going to follow through--it's best to be prepared rather than lead your teammate to the slaughter. What were you going to do, leave them on hook the entire game? I added a perfect perk for even that situation.

  • I'm actually pretty okay with the mid-chapter changes: Trapper gets a nice buff and add-on pass, which is wizard;

    Plague gets an add-on pass and a QOL change, which will make playing her even more entertaining;

    Spirit gets what looks like a Nerf in the form of a change that makes her a tiny bit less absolutely busted while leaving her essentially the same in terms of power, really looking forward to playing her without getting told to kill myself after every match;

    Michela is getting added, and not only is she hella cute and incredibly slappable-looking, but she brings one descent perk and two more that are good enough that I might see more than the same six perks every high-level match, which is flat-out astounding;

Pig also is getting an add-on pass, which wasn't amazing to be fair, but it was still nice to see!

Over all, I'd say that it's actually an absolute win. Glad we didn't get a disaster with the patch, tbh--it's funny looking back at everyone's nerf "predictions."

You two are playing oblivious. He's referring to how since the cultural shift in the late 00's where people started getting easily offended by just about everything and incapable of taking criticism. Then came cancel culture/witch hunts when that blew out of proportion because social media made that incredibly easy to do. The effect on gaming other than people throwing hissy fits all the time is that it limits what game devs can do when it comes to being creative w/ their content. Add on resources having to be directed to cater to feelings and safe spaces. It's not a nostalgia trip to say that games in the '90s and '00's pushed boundaries esp. when it came to horror games. The stories and concepts of many were incredibly dark, gruesome and morally gray. Hell, even a mainstream game like GTA now could have easily died in its infancy if this happened back then if things were as they are now. Luckily the lack of social media made the people trying to cancel everything only capable of limited damage.

No ######### I'm playing oblivious, he's being hella silly. Acting like people are just being "delicate fairies" or some-such nonsense--there's a fair amount of people specifically stating the kind of crap they're dealing with, and it's more than a lack of acknowledgement and some head-shaking.

Some people just say to ignore it, because that's just kids being kids--I've said it before, and I'll say it again, that's coward-speak. If you can't hold society to a higher standard, them maybe you shouldn't judge. I could give less of a ######### about "safe spaces," I just want people to act like decent human beings to each other instead of vicious little hooligans.

Oh, yes, let's just TP the neighborhood, that's just fun childhood games; nevermind that you'd get caned, suspended, and put on community service for that kind of ######### in my day.

Edit: I can't speak for the other dude, I'm assuming their comment was tongue-in-cheek as well, but th'hell if I actually know.

Nemesis' fist hitting stuff. Strangely it's the only "weapon" that doesn't change sound based on the surface hit, but it has a very satisfying low-end and a crisp tail, you really feel like you're punching a brick wall.

I personally like the sound he makes when falling from heights more--or rather, the sound he makes landing from them. It's disturbingly satisfying. Actually, do other killers of similar size make likewise noises?

    Hm. Needs further testing.
